Character
Name: Cole
Series: Dragon Age
Timeline: After Dragon Age: Inquisition
Canon Resource Links: Wiki

Personality:

Cole's confused. Once, he thought he was the ghost of a dead boy named Cole, then he knew he was a nonhuman spirit but not what kind. He knows he doesn't quite "fit", but makes the best of everything by acknowledging that whatever he is, he has a purpose and a drive: to help people.

Cole is acutely empathetic and open to feeling. He looks melancholic because he feels pain everywhere... but it isn't his, so he can deal with it. He turns out to be a spirit embodiment of compassion--the ability to help others is all he needs to be happy, so he is.

He doesn't even need a solid sense of identity. He has a sense of self, of friendship, and of other such things, but still. He's uncomfortable when things are "about" him, since that's not how it's supposed to work. He's used to others forgetting him, assuming they can see him. He even forgot who he was once, in trying to "help" the original Cole after death by taking his form. He doesn't need to establish himself to be a helper. He lets people remember and relate to him for... basically utilitarian reasons, as with Sera, who's terrified of him--he needs her to recognize him as a teammate. He starts by letting the Inquisition remember him to foster a working relationship. He wants to help them help other people on the long-term! The fact that he makes friends with most of them is a happy accident... and one that he's nervous about, but one which he's humbled by and one which he appreciates.

It makes him nervous because attachments make him nervous. They're risky. He admits to the Inquisitor, if they let Varric resolve his companion quest, that he thought that "changing means losing your friends". He alienated the first two friends he ever made when they discovered that he was a serial killer, meaning that their friendship with him became a painful memory. Attachments risk hurting both people connected to them, so he's used to coming into people's lives and disappearing without a trace.

In the version of canon he's being apped from, he's lost the ability that allows him to do that, i.e. selective memory erasure. However, his lack of experience fostering social connections shows. Cole is friendly and means well, but he's awkward. He is literal and bad at explaining himself, waxing conceptual while missing implications and cues a normal person would get, and has no sense of boundaries. He asks people uncomfortable questions because he wants to understand them, or make the questions not uncomfortable anymore! Isn't that a good thing?

Cole has a literal "forgive and forget" and "do or don't" mentality. As pure concepts, spirits have black-and-white, clearly-defined natures. He starts of seeing it as more compassionate to let a person forget a terrifying memory, even if it was formative. If a person is dying in agony and can't be helped, it's more compassionate to put them out of their misery than to prolong their suffering in case a way is found to save them. If a person made the choice to hurt innocent people and hasn't resolved to stop, they need to be removed before they cause more pain. He's naive for all the pain he's touched. He knows that things are complicated and bad, but why do they have to be?

He starts appreciating the idea of "trying", just being there for people and placating them when you can't fix things, and the like if he starts to become more human. He also gets over his isolation and fear of loss, since he owns more of his own feelings and understands that pain is sometimes necessary. Nothing's perfect outside of the world of concepts, but there is room for it to get better.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Compassion. Literally Cole's foundation. He is attuned to others' feelings and goes out of his way to make his surroundings better for the people there, and that'll extend to his Pokemon. He's determined in doing it, too!
+ Resourcefulness. He's determined and creative in it. Seemingly random items start going missing in Skyhold after Cole's recruitment, and it'll turn out he's been using them to "help out"around the castle, often through cause and effect.
+ Independence. Cole is more used to helping others than being helped. He likes having friends and company, but seems comfortable alone, and he is able to look after himself.
+ Observation. Feelings aren't all Cole is in touch with. He often comments on the environment when he's in the party, feelings, smells, etc.

- Naivete. He is familiar with the effect they have on people, but he doesn't get all the finer points of human society and etiquette.
- Inflexibility. Cole is black and white. Though he's getting to understand compromise better, he's still not used to it.
- Sneakiness. He used to be invisible to most people, and either he was afraid of them or they were afraid of him--he isn't used to being straightforward about everything he does.
- Poor social skills. He still hasn't really learned how to talk to people on their level, or how to tell where their boundaries are before he crosses them.

[The PokeGear comes on to video. Cole's eyes are drifting. While he's not sure what the right part of his PokeGear is to look at, he knows it can hear him, so he gives a soft:] Hello!

This isn't for me. This bird wants me to send a message. I... don't know what kind of message she wants me to send... I asked her what I should say, but all she says is her name.

I think... she wants me to tell you that if any of you are the Trainer whose cat attacked her brother today, she wants to fight you. Your cat, I mean.

[he looks offscreen.]

Did you want me to tell them that? ["prr-gee, prr-prr-prrrgee!" flap-flap-flap.] That was a yes... Was it?

She seems happy... so I think that that's all!

But I don't think that you should fight her. She already feels better, now that she's said it to you... If you're listening. Or when you hear this later.

Don't do it, if you hear this later, instead of now. She'll have forgotten that she wanted to fight your cat later.

Thank you. She doesn't know she's thankful, too... But she is. I can tell. She's happy because so many people can hear this--it means that her feelings are important, like they're big and loud and hard to ignore because they matter.

So thank you for listening.

[a cheery smile, and cut.]

Third Person Sample: Cole was scared, at first. There were people back in that village, but he hadn't been able to hear them. That couldn't have happened unless he had lost his connection to the Fade. That couldn't happen, either, because he was from there and he still knew that he was.

Was that not enough? Was it not enough to remember the Fade if... it wasn't here at all? Was there some kind of wall put up between it and himself?

He'd gone out to the woods to see if anything changed. His mind might have been playing tricks on him, because he was afraid, but he felt more like a human than he ever had before, feeling his stomach churn and his throat dry, wondering how long he'd been sleeping in that place, and then he started hearing again, so maybe that was wrong, too--the thinking that there was no Fade here.

But he heard the animals.

Maybe it had "moved".

Could it do that?

Cole sat down in a tuft of grass with his legs crossed. He watched one bird chase another between a couple of trees. Animals felt things, like fear or anger, just not in words. These two were probably playing. Cole nodded to himself--yes, yes, I know this. He rocked a little and dug his fingernails into the dirt.

Then he finally heard words: "He likes it out here!"

That was the tiny person with the green head, sitting next to him and crossing its legs on the ground--her legs, actually. He could pick up on that, too. It sounded like a girl. She was swaying from side to side and patting the ground. Left, right, left, right.

She sounded happy, too. Hearing that in words was a huge relief. He scratched the ground a little harder and started to smile. She felt that he was feeling better--and he felt that she did.

"Yes," he said.

She understood. She smiled just like a child would. He picked up on that, too. She was, in fact, a child. He heard "newness", unless that was her hearing it in him.

A couple of anchors tangled together. They both had someone to talk to.

Character
Name: Archer
Series: Fate/Extra
Timeline: Post!Seventh Round; Female Protagonist (Rin Route)
Canon Resource Links: Type-Moon Wikia Entry || Type-Moon Wikia Entry (Main Series) || Walkthrough that includes all routes.

Although it has been confirmed that Archer was once Shirou Emiya, who is the source of his existence, the circumstances in how he became a Heroic Spirit are different, pledging himself to the Moon Cell to be granted the power to prevent a disaster. After his death, he was recorded into history as the personification of a "Hero of Justice" as a Servant.

Archer retained his memories of the Fifth Holy Grail War that he once participated in, in particular Saber having made a rather big impression on him as he references her and being familiar with facing invisible weapons (referencing her ability to conceal her sword while fighting). Despite this, any relations that he has with other characters from the main series will be played by ear, though he's devoted to his Master and the digital Holy Grail War that he originates from in Fate/Extra.

Personality: One does not gain the title of “No Name" without a proper means of forgetting oneself. Though he once existed as an amateur magus in the past, his current existence is one completely seperated from that, upon his death being recorded as a "Hero of Justice" by name alone; his name wasn't important, only his ideal as a hero that saved everyone that he could around him- it was how the people remembered him. To that end, he can be considered quite the secretive person, giving much weight to his identity even as he truthfully tells his Master that he has none. He is generally seen as something of a cynical individual, many of his conversations with his Master throughout the Holy Grail War ending in mostly harmless verbal abuse. At times this nature of his can make him come off as a grumpy old man as he reminisces about pieces of his past and about other topics not to do with himself, such as discussing vampires. Though he’s sarcastic at times, it’s also how he tends to give advice. He is not much of a liar but he keeps many secrets (such as his mysterious connection with Tohsaka Rin; when asked if he knew her or that she was his girlfriend, he denied it. a truthful response, but only because this isn't the same Rin that he may have known in the past).

Despite these tendencies, however, Archer is one who is all too familiar with the battlefield and when to be straightforward. Grasping the severity of most situations, this comes from the fact that his Master is dependant on him for protection. As she's an easy target because of that, it's up to Archer to do whatever it takes to protect her. To that end his devotion to his allies (particularly his Master) is unprecedented. As a Servant his life is dedicated to the one that commands him, ready to protect his Master with his life if needed be. That being said, in the Holy Grail War, losing one’s Servant is equal to losing your own life as a Master; with a strong fighting spirit and great wisdom and skill in his class, he always carries forward to the best of his abilities to obtain victory.

Over time his overall attitude around his Master shifts to a more kind and protective role. Though there is an edge to his words from time to time, this shows that he is a soft-hearted hero deep down that can open up to the people he trusts and cares about. Along with opening up comes an easier time in actually teasing or getting Archer flustered. Though still difficult to do at times, his Master had learned to “bark back” so to speak and even nearly caused him to fall off his chair at one point (to which he tried to play off like it was nothing). To his enemies, however, he can be downright insulting and has a tendency to goad them on and taunt them. As for those he is impartial to, though he isn't exactly indifferent to them, he can at times be difficult in his attitude, some people offput by his sarcastic nature.

It can be speculated, however, that his softer side is a shadow of his previous life. As a Heroic Spirit, Archer can be considered fictional in a sense. As Heroic Spirits are considered legendary in history, he is a rather unorthodox case as he is not a natural born hero. His name was long since forgotten by time, hence his identity is considered “No Name”, but he willingly sold over "his self after death" to the Moon Cell as a compensation for a miracle. This miracle was to save the lives of many people that he otherwise could not have done with his own power. To that end, Archer is considered the personification of an ideal. The “Ally of Justice”, a superhero that would save everyone even at the cost of his own life. Employed as a concept after his death, though Archer is shaped as the “Ally of Justice” people desired, he is considered a Servant instead of a hero.

The source of his ideal was once a young man who walked the path of justice, a man who threw away his name and humanity in order to successfully become a "Hero of Justice". Eventually he was betrayed by his own ideals, judged and executed by humanity for his crimes committed in the name of justice. However, this is where the Archer of the main series and this version differed. Whereas his main canon counterpart regretted his path due to all the lives he'd had to end in order to save others, letting it drive him to the point of wanting to erase himself from existence by any means necessary to escape his hell, this Archer accepted his punishment for his crimes, not once believing he was wrong. Should he have pleaded not-guilty before his death, he would have been insulting the lives that had been sacrificed on his path of justice. In the end, he never considered himself a hero, simply following his own sense of justice.

To this day, Archer would smile out of nostalgia as he recalled his endeavors in the past. It was a far cry from his counterpart- though they share the same 'existence', they are ultimately not the same 'person'.

Despite being betrayed by his own ideal in the end, Archer never strayed from his decisions in life or regretted them, feeling that the desire to want to help others was never the wrong choice. It's a showing of just how kind Archer is deep down inside, masked by shades of cynicism and sarcasm. Time has weathered the bowman with the mindset of a realist, leaving his nostalgic memories of the past where they belonged (in the past) as he fulfilled his duty as a Servant. Remnants of the "Ally of Justice" remain however, as shown in how he will still do his best to protect those that he can (most importantly, his Master and by extension, her allies if prompted to).

Though his ideals were merely "borrowed" from someone who saved him in his past life, Archer continued onward, marching through the countless "borrowed" blades upon the hill.

Ultimately, he remains devoted to his Master despite what is speculated of his past life, summoned to win the Holy Grail. In fact, though subtle, his sympathetic side is best brought out of him through his Master. In his past life, he was once a magus who competed for the Holy Grail. Much like the protagonist of Fate/Extra, he was lost and inexperienced; yet despite his flaws and initial incompetence as a Master, it was because of the support of his Servant that he made it as far as he did. Though he would complain about his Master at first, he continued to do his best to support her just the same as his Master did for him. He also rewards persistence and hard work because his whole life had been that tenet of practicing on that hard work alone.

In his past life and even as the powerful Heroic Spirit that he is today, he was inadequate as a magus. His prowess isn't a showing of his natural skill, but single-mindedly refining what very little he had in the art of Projection and Reinforcement.

A hero with no name.
A fictional Heroic Spirit.
Faker.

--

Being his third re-emergence within the world of Pokémon, over the course of his previous journey alongside Red Saber and adjusting into the new lifestyle of a Pokémon Trainer, Archer has shown to be nonchalant in his training methods. Though he rewards hard work from his Pokémon, he had yet to capture many new members and relied on his Ditto. The other Pokémon that he once owned have since disappeared which leaves him back at square one. While his personality and outlook on life hasn't changed so much since coming to Johto, he exudes a calm sense of confidence in battle without arrogance; much like his demeanor upon competing for the Holy Grail. Despite this, Archer still finds a way to goad his opponents on.

While the more relaxing lifestyle is seemingly new to him after all these years, it's a way of life that he had adapted to easily enough. To that end, he is devoted to one day seeking a way back to fighting alongside his Master.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths

If his past self is any indication, his housekeeping skills are absolutely exceptional, along with being a decent cook (Japanese cuisine being his forte). Strong and determined both in body and mind, Archer has a great tactical mind and can formulate strategies rather quickly. This comes from facing enemies that should be stronger than he is and single-mindedly focusing on the one thing that he is good at and perfecting it. With his powers, that comes down to Projection (or Tracing), a magecraft that involves analyzing the structure of a weapon (typically a sword) right down to the history and its user’s techniques and replicating the weapon for his own use. As far as Pokémon battles are concerned, this can easily transfer over into taking the strengths and weaknesses of his Pokémon and his opponent’s and assessing the best way to victory (or a tactical retreat if needed be).

Weaknesses

Though not exactly weak by any means, by comparison to most of the enemies he’d faced in the past, they were considerately stronger than he was. Relying on his cunning can only get him so far before he’s outright overwhelmed. Seeing as Archer has placed up so many walls around himself it’s difficult to see weaknesses in him. Vague as it may be, being reminded of his past (especially bringing up Tohsaka Rin of who brings up a suspiciously dodgy side of Archer) can cause him to effectively clam up. Though that is more of a typical case-by-case basis as he has discussed his past before with the likes of his Master, particularly his exploits of preventing past disasters.

First Person Sample:

[by the time he had come to and realized where he had arrived, the surprise had left his expression as quickly as it had came. unaware of how he'd departed in the first place, he imagined he would either return to the Moon Cell, data waiting to be utilized yet again to be summoned in another war... or he could return to the point in which Hakuno was waiting for him. they had a mission to complete after all. or...]

Was I dreaming just now? [the Servant surveys his surroundings as he realizes he's leaving a message over the PokéGear. he remembers this city... amusing in that it was the last place he was staying before vanishing. was he the only one? what of Saber? Lancer? that boy... who was here and who wasn't here? it was a good thing that he didn't ask all of these questions outloud. he'd find the answers out on his own in the first place. and he wasn't the type to feel out of place. so for now, he continued walking down the busy street]

Goldenrod City... Maybe I should pay the King of Knights a visit. [his expression falters if only in the slightest. and only momentarily] If you're still here. [though his thoughts wander to the whereabouts of a certain Empress he'd travelled with for so long, it was fleeting for the time being as there was one constant in this world. at least, as far as he remembered. if Saber wasn't here, that practically meant,]

Not that it matters in the first place. If I'm supposed to go for another cycle of this world, I may as well quit holding back.

Johto or Kanto though... [his tone of voice suggests almost a lack of interest and yet acceptance all at the same time. there was no questions this time. he knew the game by now] Guess it wouldn't hurt to catch up to everyone else so far "ahead".

[and on that note? he smirks before shutting off the PokéGear. but not before muttering to himself,]

Man, starting over will be a pain.

Third Person Sample:

“You can either follow me or get back in your ball. Your call either way.” Having spent enough time lingering around the edges of New Bark Town and getting accustomed to the way this world worked, Archer slipped his backpack on, the weight feeling foreign on his back. He was so used to not having to carry much of anything to begin with, or even having his weapons manifest in his grasp from thin-air. It had admittedly been an awkward moment for the red knight when he threatened his ‘Mom’ with a pair of swords that never appeared. Shouting ”Trace on!” when nothing happened? Thinking back on it even now caused him to frown, though any traces of a blush were hard to find on such a tanned complexion. Everything felt so bizarre and out of place. He could no longer feel the presence of his Master. No longer was there an influx of magic coursing through him as a powerful Heroic Spirit. Just the blood that made him…human.

(Human…)

That was exactly right. Archer was a human now. Though it initially caused him to panic (though his version of panicking would look very calm to anybody else), he realized that there was nothing to concern himself with. Even if he was still a Servant, his Independent Action ability granted to him as an Archer would allow him to last for a couple of days even without a source of prana. Despite the fact that it seemed he now had ample time to get his bearings straight, his priority now became that of either finding his Master or finding a way back to finishing the Holy Grail War. Strong as she had become, she was hopeless without him. Or maybe…just maybe, Archer was hopeless without her. Had their bond become that strong? Had they truly come so far together? Apparently so if it meant he doubted his existence in this world and believed it to be a Reality Marble at first. Though he’d come to accept his fate here in the sense that he had to play by the rules. No swords, just him and his new companion of a Ditto that fumbled behind Archer as he made his way out from New Bark Town. From a bystander’s viewpoint it would have looked as though the Servant didn’t care for his Pokémon, but his pace was much slower than usual. Enough so that the Ditto didn’t miss a single beat and stayed right behind its trainer, working desperately to keep up.

As he reflected on his predicament, it became all too perfectly clear that as a human, he may as well have been no different from his Master now. If anything…he was the Master and this Pokémon was the Servant whose purpose was to fight for him and protect him. Meaning that whatever was out there in this vast and wide world, Archer wouldn’t be able to take it on alone. And though his back had remained turned to the obedient Pokémon, it was for the sake that he had no choice but to lay his trust within Ditto to be the eyes in the back of his head. Archer would be the one to trek beyond the horizon and take on everything in front of him while Ditto would be the one to have his back. When he thought about it that way, it was almost comforting…

“… I don’t know what counts as exercise for you,” he suddenly stopped as he turned around to look down at the blob of a monster that looked up to Archer, seemingly confused as to why they stopped in the middle of the road as well. Seriously, he had no idea given its body type…or lack thereof. “But I’m gonna put you back in the ball for now.” Reaching for the little ball attached to the Servant’s waist, he clicked the button on the front of it to cause it to morph in size, pointing it down in the direction of Ditto. Just as he was about to return it, however… “…?” Ditto looked disappointed for some reason. Don’t ask how Archer was able to tell, but it wasn’t for the fact that it was being put back in the Pokéball. Was Ditto too slow? It didn’t want to disappoint its trainer since it wasn’t like most Pokémon. Before it could dwell on what it did wrong, however, Ditto was met with a small yet confident smile from the towering Servant.

“I’m the slow one here. If you want, I’ll teach you to keep up with me better when I’m ready. If I can run faster, I’ll figure out what I have to do sooner.”

If this really was all supposed to be real and he was away from the Holy Grail War, then Ditto was more familiar to this than Archer was. Archer was the one who had much to learn now. After a brief yet mutual staredown between Archer and Ditto, he couldn’t help but lightly huff and shake his head. “I’m cheering up a walking pile of goop…”

Despite his words, it seemed that Ditto understood what Archer had meant, perking up almost immediately with a smile as it waited for its master’s command.

“Return.”

--

Applicant Notes: I revised the personality section quite a bit as more of Archer's backstory and mindset in his past life was revealed in Fate/Extra CCC (his canon point is from the original game, which can be considered a different route). I re-used my samples from my old application for the first & third person samples. Hopefully that's okay!

Character
Name: Wheatley
Series: Portal 2
Timeline: End game
Canon Resource Links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheatley_%28Portal%29

Personality: Wheatley’s personality stems from the fact that he is a AI core that was designed to be a fast-talking moron. In fact his whole purpose is to create a constant stream of terrible ideas in order to clog the processing thought process of Glados. As a result Wheatley lacks the intelligence to produce cognitive thought and productive thinking patterns that would enable him to make a productive idea. Wheatley has a nasty trait of going on an on about one topic and even lying his butt off in order to back track and cover his tracks, causing him to ramble on. Due to his stupidity he frequently slips up and insults humans in front of Chell. This causes him to continue on and on, almost soliloquy like about how humans are great, intelligent beings, filled with a rich and colorful culture and a history that is unique to them. It is in his character to show remorse, and he has awareness, after the act, that he is a bumbling moron. However it is unlikely he can learn form his mistakes, due to his nature.

Funny, high-strung and a bit of a motor mouth are the words people would use to describe Wheatley. Essentially a lot of things he says and does are not a result of careful thought and logical planning. Often appearing impulsive and coming up with good ideas that seem good at the time, but end horribly. Not something one would expect from an Artificial Intelligence.

Cheerful and always willing to help others in order to help himself. His bond with Chell is solely built off of that if she helps him then they both can escape from the labs below. Wheatley acts kind, appearing to be the ‘woe is me’ type, and often accusing others of being bossy and setting up his ‘orders’ as mere requests. He talks people into doing his bidding, without ever making them. He is manipulative in a way that is difficult to classify as intentional or simply accidental, a desire of wanting something but not having the attention span for a real plan. Of course we see his true selfish desire take form when he is placed in Glados body. It amplifies his incompetence ten fold and he decides to act on his own accord for the rest of the game.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Quick Thinker - Wheatley has the ability to quickly come up with a plan or even an escape route. Throughout canon he has ideas that move the plot along. Of course those ideas often do more bad then good and it is through your (player) influence that his ideas benefit the overall goal.

+ Cheerful/Welcoming - This robot has a warm voice and a willingness to make friends. He has no desire to be alone and enjoys the company of others. In order to get what he wants he has an ability to plead with others and without outright forcing them, getting what he wants. He is the first character you meet in the game and his personality is so easy to trust!

+ / - Manipulative - Wheatley has the ability to cheerfully and without suspicion get what he wants. Not that he has any malicious intent with this ability, but he is a selfish robot and knows how to get what he wants.

- Unintelligent - Wheatley is dumb. He is a moron and was designed to be one. Every idea, thought or even speech has no thought process. His ideas are destructive since this is what he is designed to do and he has no idea that this is the way.

- Short Temper/Impulsive - These two go hand in hand because they react off one another. When he is called a moron, he destroys his only escape route due to his anger and loses the one person he could have used to achieve his goals. Speaking of moron, he hates being called that! It is sure to get a rise out of him and an impulsive, later to be regretted, action is sure to follow.

+ Fearful - Wheatley is terrified of most things he has no control over. He fears loss, he fears Glados, birds and failure. However when he is in a position of power/control most of these fears and inhibitions disappear.

Samples
First Person Sample: [The feed comes on, but of course…it doesn’t appear to be intentional. A pink paw comes onto the screen, tapping it rather slowly. A voice is heard.]

Hey, hye, you knock it off! Whatever…you are…. What even are you mate…come on? What kind of get up is that, being pink and slow….

[He sighs and moves to pick up the Gear, but struggles a bit as he tries to grasp the device. He continually picks it up for a few moments before he drops it again.]

Oh shit! Snap! Stupid human fingers! Who’s bloody idea was to turn me into a human. Magic doesn’t exist and I sure aren’t in Apeture Labs…. Darn it! Come on!

[With much struggle he finally succeeds and stares back at the camera for a while before turning to look at his slowpoke]
No. Don’t think that way, here you are calling me names when you can’t even do a damn thing yourself.

And just to get something straight. I’m not a moron and I know you weren’t just thinking it, because wouldn’t that be calling the kettle black. Not that I am the kettle…or a black kettle or a pot. Right! The pot calling the kettle black! That is not happening right now.

[Plop and the Gear falls from his fingers again.]

Damn! Stupid humans! Stupid human fingers! What is going on!

[A pause.]

No! I don’t need you to comment on that! [Wait was he actually talking to the pokemon. Thinking that it would respond? Odd.]

Third Person Sample: Ouch! He tripped again and again and yep AGAIN! Man he hated this and again what was going on! No one seemed to know and it caused him nothing but frustrations.

Here he was in some foreign land and forced to inhabit a human body. He bumbled around the house, his ‘mother’ calling out sounds of concern as he tripped over his own feet. “I’m fine…mother?” Mother…okay no. “Can you tell me what’s going on here or are you going to respond with some answer that we both know I’m not going to be able to use. Maybe I’ll understand it, I can hope!” He calls from the other room, waiting for some sort of response.

“Have a good journey honey!” she calls back and he just shakes his head. “No! Okay well thank you for the response, but what journey and OW!” he falls again. Man being a human was rough, how did Chell do it? How did any smelly human do it? It certainly was a step down was super smart and over powered AI, but after what he did with his power he guessed this was a fitting punishment. At least he was no longer bopping around in space with that…other core. Funny, how he could find himself missing space core in his current situation.

After a while he makes it out the door, with the pink blob of a pokemon following closely behind him. Wheatley stops and looks back at the monster. He isn’t quite sure what to think of it, it’s not threatening and not to be feared is his conclusion. It seems just as confused as he is and while it has mastered the art of being whatever it is…he still have a bit of a ways to go.

Character
Name: Roxas
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Timeline: Before the last battle with Axel
Canon Resource Links: http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Roxas#Story

Personality:
Roxas is a generally happy character, who has a wide range of emotions despite him not really having his own heart. His personality is shaped by the time he spent in Organization XIII, though he has no memories of this time, and the seven days he spent in Twilight Town with his friends.

Roxas most of the time is a happy and spirited boy. He loves spending time with his friends, Hayner, Pence, and Olette, and does everything with them. One of his favorite things that makes him happier than anything else is spending time on top of the clock tower, sharing ice cream with them. Generally doing anything with his friends, even talking about a beach trip, fills him with excitement. They do everything together. He's also happy to talk to the people around town that he knows, like the Item Shop lady who is happy to see him in return.

He's also very determined, and also rather competitive. The Struggle Tournament is a big show of this, as he is determined to win no matter what. His competitive side is most seen whenever he is confronted by something that he feels he can beat, like when Seifer challenges him to a fight at the beginning of the game. He also does his best in taking several jobs sound town so he can help his friends buy tickets for the beach. Once he makes up his mind to do something, he rarely ever strays from that commitment. His competitive side can also make him extremely stubborn, one big moments was when he refused to lose to Setzer just so Setzer could win for his fans.

Roxas is very loyal to his friends. He stands up for them when they are called losers by Seifer, and is more than willing to fight for them as well. He keeps his promises. When he promised Hayner he'd fight him in the Struggle Tournament, he kept it. And when something comes up, such as an attack in the Sandlot, and he breaks the promise, he does whatever he can to make it up to his friends. They are also the source of his strength, and when he is pulled away from them and winds up in the middle of an argument between two men he doesn't know, he calls to them to get out of it. He knows his loyalty to his friends will always be rewarded with their loyalty towards him.

Roxas is also very kind and caring. He hold his friends dear to him, and when he wins the Struggle tournament, he shows how much by giving them each a marble from the trophy. He shows his kindness when he helps the Item Shop lady in finding her cat, knowing it would make her happy to be reunited with her pet. He doesn't blame Naminé for what she tells him, showing that he has no reason to be angry with her since they were in the same situation.

He isn't unintelligent by any means. He can easily identify things in situation that require it, reading his surroundings before battle. When confronted by Seifer for the first time, he knows he needs a weapon to defend himself with, which he finds in front of him. When he is told everything by Naminé, he listens and asks appropriate questions, even if the answers are not what he wants. The day he and his friends were doing their assignment on the wonders of Twilight Town, he sees things that they don't, though they all dismiss it as something pretty mundane. He is generally very observant as well, spotting things others don't.

Roxas can also be prone to bouts of melancholy. When he becomes more and more confused about the dreams and the happenings around town, he grows despondent and moody. Even his friends can hardly shake him out of these periods. He hits the worst part of his depression when Naminé explains everything to him, making him doubt his own existence, not wanting to become a part of Sora since that would mean he would no loner be his own person. He also feels horrible when he fails to remember that Axel was his best friend, which was triggered when he dreamt about when he was leaving and Axel saying he would miss him.

His worst trait is his temper. He is quick to anger, and when his anger gets out of control, he will not hesitate to attack. One of the victims of his out of control anger happened to be a computer console, which he beat with his Keyblade until is was beyond use. He is rash and cocky when his temper flares up, jumping into fights without thinking about the consequences, such as his fight with Axel. His words can be clipping and blunt when he's irritated, snapping at his friends when they don't believe that weird things have been happening to him every day. He does apologize for these outbursts, so he is well aware that these times can hurt people close to him. He is also very capable of holding resentment. This adds on to his anger, his main source of resentment being Sora.

Strengths:
Loyalty: Will do anything for his friends since they are the most important people to him.

Determination: Will not back down from a challenge, no matter what happens.

Perception: During battle he is capable of reading the situation and using it to his advantage.

Fighter: He knows how to fight and defend himself. He is also able to dual-wield Keyblades. He's also physically stronger than normal people, and capable of jumping higher than most. It also makes him rather durable.

Caring: He'll show and go out of his way to let his friends know he cares for them. Whether it is by sharing his prize, or getting ice cream for their visits on the clock tower, he enjoys being around them and making them happy.

Weaknesses:
Temper: He is not very good at keeping his temper under control. When pushed far enough, he will act out aggressively. It also makes him rash and impulsive.

Melancholy: When he gets sad, he gets immensely sad to the point where it hard to snap him out of it. These bouts can go away quickly, or last for long periods of time.

Stubborn: If he gets too determined, he will become as stubborn as a bull to get what he wants done.

[The screen pops up and there's a finger poking the lens followed by a fluffy, cloud-like wing doing the same.]

Is this thing on? I don't think we're on the Dex again... This looks like a TV or something.

[The screen is moved around sporadically, showing glimpses of a blue bird and a young, blonde haired boy. When it stops, the boy is on the screen again.]

What do you think about it, Sky?

Blu?

Yeah... I don't think it's a TV either.

[Clearly the boy looks confused. His little Swablu, perched on his shoulder, also looks confused. She tries to solve their confusion and jumps onto the Gear, knocking it and herself down down to the ground. All that's left to see is her wings wiping at the screen and the boy in the background intermittently at times as she does.]

S-Sky! Don't break it!

Third Person Sample:
Roxas had no idea what was going on. This wasn't the basement of the mansion in Twilight Town. And this definitely wasn't Twilight Town. The lady who called herself his mom shoved him out of the house before he could ask her any questions after almost hitting him with the backpack as she tried to hand it to him. He probably shouldn't have flinched. He saw an old man in the middle of the town and decided that this man might know what's going on!

This wasn't a very good idea either. Roxas was irritated now, glaring at the small red and white ball in his hand. The old man had gone on and on about the world of Pokémon without telling him much else. After a while he sighed and threw the ball to the ground. “I doubt there's anything in this thing.” He turned to walk off when a sudden chirping noise stopped him. It sounded like a bird.

Quite frankly, he had no idea what kind of bird this was. It was blue, looked like a tiny cloud. It also looked very happy to see Roxas. It didn't take him long at all to bond with the bird, though it did keep trying to clean him. The way out of town was obvious enough, and the old man had mentioned something about how he had to travel.

This was a few days ago.

Roxas makes a rather irritated noise that was between a growl and a huff. His Swablu, Sky, tries to mimic the noise her trainer makes without much success. “I can't believe we're lost!” he yells at the trees. They were the current source of his irritation. His hand was scratched up from where he had hit a tree already out of anger. Sky had panicked then and fussed over him for almost an hour. She had also tried to attack the same tree that he had to show her displeasure.

He goes about being angry for a while long before the exertion makes him sit on the ground. He's clearly worn out now, his face a sullen mask. “Sky... what if we never get out of this place?” Sky hops into her trainers arms, letting him hug her close and hide his face in her feathers. She coos very softly and nuzzles him gently. She doesn't like seeing her human sad. When Roxas raises his head again, he had a small smile on his face. “Sorry...” He pets his little pal before standing with her in his arms.

“We should probably keep going. I don't know where we're gonna sleep tonight.” Sky chirps and flaps her wings as if to encourage Roxas. He smiles more and nods. “Right! We can make it! But you know when we get attacked again, you're the one who has to fight. I'm not going to get scratched up by another weird cat!”

Sky just stares at him before ruffling her feathers in complaint. She thought her trainer did just fine defending himself. After a while he sighs and pats her on the head. “Fine. No more cats.”

Current Characters in Route: Naminé (Kingdom Hearts)

Character
Name: Serah Farron
Series: Final Fantasy XIII
Timeline: After fighting the Proto fal'Cie Adam.
Canon Resource Links: Here

Personality:
At her core, Serah is a caring, fairly outspoken, incredibly resilient twenty-one-year-old young woman. She genuinely cares for people, and believes the best in them. Similarly, when Serah loves someone, she puts her whole heart and soul into it. You won't find a more dependable person than Serah, someone who'll listen to your thoughts and doubts and dreams.

It's her loyalty to her fiancé Snow and her sister Lightning that carries her throughout her journey. It's more than arguable that it's her desire to see Lightning that lets her push through her tough journey. Throughout it, she constantly monologues, and at the heart of all of them is one singular desire: She wants to see Lightning again, and she's willing to follow a young man she doesn't know through the timelines. In fact, it's because of her incredible faith in people that she goes with Noel. While she initially doesn't believe completely Noel's story about artefacts, she gives him a chance to prove that what he's been saying is true. (Gadot questions whether he "believes that crap," to which Serah replies that she "has to give him a chance," since it's the only way she may see Lightning.) And when he does, Serah allows herself to trust completely. This faith might also be perceived as desperation to stick together: Serah's been alone before, and she doesn't want to be alone again.

And so her journey begins. It's definitely not an easy journey; Serah herself is plagued by feelings of guilt and loneliness. Guilt, because Lightning is gone, and Snow went to search for (what they believe due to timeline shenanigans) a dead woman. However, Serah takes a while to open up about her less-than-happy feelings. It's not until she can identify with someone that she opens up to them. From then on, though, Serah puts her whole trust in them.

It's because of her past traumas--being branded by a Pulse Fal'Cie and losing her parents at a young age--that Serah is so mature. Part of her maturity, too, is her perceptiveness, especially where her sister is concerned. She gifts to her on her birthday a survival knife, aware of Lightning's preference for practical gifts. Serah can also be fairly sentimental: She keeps Lightning's survival knife when living in New Bodhum and keeps it close to her. It serves as a reminder of her sister. It's little trinkets that are significantly important to Serah. This maturity also helps her to be an effective school teacher and, in Sunleth Waterscape, scold (lightly, of course) Snow for acting... well, not his age. And because of Snow and Lightning's... well, recklessness, Serah tends to worry about them very deeply. She doesn't hesitate to go to Snow's side when she has a vision of his being hurt, and even when it seems Lightning is gone... Serah remains worried about her sister. Which is probably why she's so desperate to get to Lightning!

As cheerful and strong-willed as Serah is, she's not without fears. She states that she had been scared during her crystal sleep--trapped in a dark place. Similarly, when the timeline gets messed up and Lightning disappears (like she was never there to begin with!), Serah is terrified. When Noel arrives, too, Serah freezes up when faced with monsters for the first time. Here, she calls on Lightning to save her. Of course, this is basically the only time she does this, because later on she knows what she has to do. Serah, though, is not without feelings of loneliness: Her fear is what fuels her alienation of Snow at the beginning of XIII. She's terrified that she's become a monster after being made into a l'Cie, and pushes Snow away. Telling Lightning, too, is out of the picture, as Lightning is a soldier and it's her duty to take care of threats. It's after Snow proposes to her, though, that Serah realizes how foolish she was. And so, when she meets Vanille, she tells her that pushing her loved ones away will only result in more pain. As she says herself,
Running away and leaving behind the people you care about? That isn't love. Though you might just want to keep them safe, shutting them out of you life only hurts them more. The point is, I have people I can count on. I'll make it through.
Serah's ability to adapt is incredible. She eases into her journey fairly easily, wielding her bowsword like it's the most natural thing in the world. Serah also shows no qualms about settling on Pulse, which might be because New Bodhum looks at least vaguely like her old home on Cocoon. While Serah admits life is harder, she also states that having people around to support her helps her adjust easier. This shows the value she places in others' actions, and the incredible love and affection she has in others. Truly, the residents of New Bodhum are very much a family, and Serah cares for all of them deeply.

Serah's kindness and love knows no bounds. She assures the members of NORA, Yuj and Maqui, that they're equally as important as the other members, Gadot, Snow, and Lebreau. And it's this kindness that makes her think carefully about her words, so she doesn't say something careless. Because despite Serah's... well, gullibility, she's still careful, especially where her relationships with others are concerned. And maybe it's why she takes Lightning's rejection of her being a l'Cie so hard: Lightning treats her coldly, as if this is an excuse so she can get married to Snow, instead of taking her at her words. However, Serah does not bear any ill will toward Lightning after this, because she loves her sister so much. The next time she sees Lightning, she's truly happy, even if she's... a bit disoriented. She genuinely is happy to see Lightning, even as she turns to crystal before their eyes.

As patient as Serah is, though, she has her moments where her temper flares up! Her students refer to her as "Meanie Miss Farron," because she's so strict--though Serah admits it's only because her own teacher, Lightning, was so strict. This shows just how much Serah values Lightning and respects her: She emulates her in her own occupation, without hesitation. And Serah certainly doesn't hesitate to break out the teacher voice, like when she tries to chase down a student she suspects has been misbehaving. But though she's strict, Serah genuinely cares for her students. She wants the best for them, even if it's communicated harshly.

Also, if she tries to be too nice to her students, she ends up... scaring them, because they're certain she'll start yelling at them.

Lastly, Serah is incredibly optimistic. Her optimism is probably what keeps her going in the first game, when she's alone in a crystal sleep. The crystal tear Serah leaves behind remains with Snow, and he communicates with her this way. She has the thought of marrying Snow and seeing Lightning to keep her hanging on, and Serah is wholeheartedly convinced that, if she has people she loves next to her, everything will be okay. Serah never once doubts Noel or herself during their journey: She knows they'll be able to complete their mission, and they'll fix the timelines. And it's not just Serah's being optimistic in people; it's her being optimistic in the future itself. Whatever happens, Serah is certain the future will work out for the best.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
✔ ADAPTABILITY: Living on Pulse? No problem. Serah adapts fairly easily to new situations. When faced with a journey to leave her home, she agrees, and she settles into the routine of finding artefacts and fixing the timelines very quickly. She's also willing to try new things--especially food.
✔ OPTIMISM: Serah has incredible faith and optimism in her friends. She genuinely believes that, as long as she has those she loves, everything will work out in the end. She notes this, her belief in the power of strong bonds, when she meets Vanille for the first time, and she tells the other that pushing away her loved ones will only end badly.
✔ STRONG WILL: Possibly the reason Serah didn't fall into a deep depression during and after her crystal sleep. Serah's will is exceedingly strong, and she tends to follow her heart--the reason, really, that she goes out on her journey with a boy she just met.
✔ PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Serah can easily hold her own in battle, despite not having prior combat experience. She jumps right into battle, wielding her bowsword like she was always meant to.

● DETERMINATION: Possibly bordering on stubbornness. While Serah isn't afraid to jump into situations, this may occasionally backfire on her--the biggest example being the journey to find Lightning and later on fix the timelines. It results in very serious consequences, not only for Serah herself, but the entire world.
● EASILY PERSUADED: While Serah has a lot of faith in people--especially Snow and her sister--it's that faith that allows her to be... easily persuaded. She believes Noel wholeheartedly when he arrives, and she accepts without question pretty much everything he says.
● CURIOSITY: Serah is a fairly curious individual! She is pretty young, after all, and while this curiosity allows her to feel out things and discover things on her own, it leads to some pretty bad things. Like being made a l'Cie in the first game: She'd been curious about the place, and ended up branded as a result.

✘ TEMPER: There's a reason her students call her "Meanie Miss Farron." Serah has a temper similar to Lightning's, though she loses it more often--Noel even notes this himself in Sunleth Waterscape when she yells at the flan to stop misbehaving.
✘ IMPULSIVE: Along with her temper, Serah sometimes throws herself into situations without any regard for herself--such as when she yells at Hope during her fight with the prototype Adam. She nearly falls off the edge of the the elevator in Augusta Tower.
✘ TRAUMAS: As in being turned into crystal, being told her sister is dead, parents dying, etc. This results in her panicking when someone she cares for gets hurt, or her freezing up during the worst times possible (like, near the beginning of the game, when she's in trouble and calls for Lightning to save her).

First Person Sample: [ When the screen flickers on, Serah smiles and settles back on her heels. With a quick glance around, she looks back at the camera. ]

Hi. I'm Serah Farron, and... well, this is new, but I don't think it's too bad. At least I've got this little guy with me to help me through it. Right, Snow?

[ The Piplup at her hip lets out a little squeak of approval. ]

Anyway, I kind of got an idea of what's happening here. Though, I'm still a little fuzzy on the details. [ A pause, and Serah looks fairly disconcerted. ] I mean, I have things to do, and I'm not sure how long I'm going to be here. It's just... they're really important, and I don't want to let anyone down.

If you could help in any way, like information or telling me if anyone I know is here, let me know. Noel Kreiss, Hope Estheim, Snow Villiers, Alyssa Zaidelle-- [ There's a small pause here, and... well, give it a try, right? Stranger things have happened, and Serah has traveled through enough timelines to know that she always has to expect the unexpected. ] --Lightning Farron, Sazh and Dajh Katzroy, Oerba Dia Vanille, or Oerba Yun Fang.

Thanks! [ And Serah gives a little wave before leaning forward and flicking off the feed. ]

Third Person Sample: Serah has seen a lot of things during her travels with Noel. Lately, she's adopted an "expect the unexpected" sort of attitude. Kind of have to, when literally anything can happen. If there's one thing Serah's learned, it's that nothing is impossible, and this... this is definitely falling into the "improbable, but no impossible" category. It's not hard for her to keep a level head; she learned to do that when she started working as a school teacher.

Nevermind that sometimes her temper got the best of her.

"Well, not much to do except move forward, right, Snow?" she says, patting the little penguin on the head. Okay. That's definitely weird, but it definitely seems real. And who's to say, in an alternate timeline, something like this is definitely possible? It seems like that's the right answer. Serah gathers the little guy up in her arms and straightens. At least he's adorable, and he does remind her of Snow: All gung-ho, ready to take on the world.

Serah had scolded him when he ran ahead into the route without her. At least he'd behave now.

"Wonder what kind of trouble we can get into, huh, Snow?" she asks her friend in a quiet voice. The route's so quiet, she can at least hear herself think, though... thinking led to worrying, and worrying led to more worrying. If she were here... what was happening back home? What would happen to Noel, to the crystal pillar, to Snow?

"I'm sure they'll be fine," she says, and she finds she believes it. Because even without her, they're strong. Especially Snow, even if he does get in over his head sometimes. Though, honestly... this whole thing, the weirdness, it would be a lot easier if she had someone she knew.

It's with a sigh that Serah's arms tighten around Snow. As if sensing her distress, he lets out a little coo--those arms reach up and he pats her cheeks. It's enough to make her smile. She appreciates the gesture, because she can tell it's genuine. And with such an earnest little guy, it's hard not to stay optimistic.

"Alright," she says, patting the penguin's head. "Let's get going."

Character
Name: Steven Universe
Series: Steven Universe
Timeline: following "Full Disclosure". (the air date of some of the episodes got messed up, so this date is taking into account chronological order, not airing order)
Canon Resource Links: here!

Personality:

Steven is an amiable, goofy kid. He sees the good in everyone and everything, and seems to believe that everyone can change for the better, even when they very clearly can or will not. Steven has a very protective personality, even having powers that center solely around his desire to protect and care for the people he loves (which includes summoning shields and having healing abilities). While Steven enjoys goofing off and having a good time, he's also begun to accept the fact that he has responsibilities he has to adhere to, as a member of the Crystal Gems; however, since he's only a kid, the weight of this responsibility sometimes causes him to lash out and worry that he isn't good enough or that he's going to cause other people harm (shown in "Full Disclosure", when he attempts to cut off his best friend Connie after seeing how poorly his father reacted to realizing Steven could have been killed on his last mission). He has somewhat of a fragile ego, constantly worried that the Gems don't trust him to be a part of the team, or that they're babying him, and that they don't trust him. This has caused real-world repercussions (such as some of his powers failing due to lack of self-confidence) and is something that he's currently working on. When he does feel confident, though, he's at his best, proving to be resourceful and heroic in times of need. His relationship with the other Crystal Gems is strong, but somewhat strained as of late due to surfacing issues surrounding Steven's mother, Rose Quartz, and the impending threat of hostile Gems that want to use earth for their own means.

Steven is relentlessly optimistic. He's the last to give up on anyone and anything, and will always see the good side of people and situations, no matter how dire. He's the only one to try and reason with the hostile but lonely Gem Lapis Lazuli, and attempts to do the same with invading Gem Peridot, despite Peridot showing no signs of empathy or kindness to Steven. Even after it's shown that Peridot intends to invade Earth and bring other Gems with her (thanks to Lapis's message to Steven), Steven still thinks that if she sees just how nice Earth and humans are, she won't want to hurt anyone. The only people Steven seems to hostile any dislike for are anyone who tries to harm his friends.

As part of his kind nature, Steven is constantly putting the needs of others before his own. He always tried to reassure and comfort others, even when he himself might be upset, and has repeatedly put himself in danger because of his strong desire to protect. In "The Return", he demands that his father take him back to Beach City, where the Gems are holding the fort against the invading homeworld Gems, despite his father essentially telling him that it would be too dangerous for him to go back. Steven refuses to listen, insists that the Gems would be hopeless without the powers of his shield, and returns to rescue the Crystal Gems much to their chagrin (as they had told his father, Greg, to get Steven out of there to begin with). In "Open Book", Steven's desire to make Connie happy causes issues when he has to push his own opinions and feelings down for her sake. And, in "Joy Ride", he's shown to be cautious and protective of the human teenagers he's hanging around, despite being much younger than them. It's likely that his nurturing protectiveness and almost motherly nature (he calls things his children a lot ("Lion, if anything happens to me, Dad will need a new son")) is a trait he shares with his mother, Rose Quartz.

Steven's relationship to the other Crystal Gems, as well as his late mother, tie into many of his insecurities and personal issues. He feels guilty for being the reason why Rose isn't around anymore (as she gave up her physical form to bring Steven into this world), after seeing how much the other Crystal Gems admire and miss her. He's well aware of the fact that the other Gems sometimes see him as an extension of her (Pearl: "Sometimes I wonder...if she can see me through your eyes, what would she think of me now?" (paraphrased)) and thus, feels obligated to live up to this high and impossible standard. He worries that the Gems don't think of him as one of their own (because he's half-human, because he's young, because he's his mother's replacement) and does a lot to try and earn their approval. The Gems, in return, do their best to act as both family and mentors to Steven, but sometimes act irrationally or harshly towards him because their own expectations for him ARE a little skewed, sometimes. But they always make up afterwards, and are a closer family for it. However, there are some issues -- such as his late mother -- that Steven doesn't discuss with the Gems anymore. Some wounds run a little too deep.

Steven enjoys cracking jokes and making puns, and enjoys playing music with his dad. He loves animals and has a pet lion (appropriately named Lion) that used to belong to his mother. Lion is the closest thing he has to remember Rose by, and loves him all the more because of it. The things that help him remember his mom, such as the video he finds that she left for him, help Steven reconcile his own conflicted feelings towards his wonderful person he never had a chance to meet. ("I don't know how to feel about you, but everyone else does. I wish I could have met you, then this place would make me sad, and I could cry healing tears, like you.") He's told by the Gems and by his father, though, that he is very much like his mother.

For a child, Steven has a world of responsibility on his shoulders that he is still figuring out how to properly cope with. But not even the dangers of protecting the earth can stop him from being goofy, carefree, and loving towards everyone and everything he meets.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

🌟 Charismatic. Steven is very good at motivating and encouraging others.
🌟 Kind and compassionate. Steven will always find a way to help someone.
🌟 Resourceful. He seems pretty good at figuring out solutions to problems, even if they're a little outlandish.
🌟 Sense of humor. Steven is a funny guy.
🌟 Curious. He loves to explore new and often dangerous new lands and new things.

♦ Naiive. He's almost gotten killed due to his persistent belief that all things are good, and wont harm him as long as he doesn't harm them.
♦ Reckless. While this usually pays off, he does often put himself in danger without thinking things through first.
♦ Inexperienced. He's still very, very young.
♦ Awkward/Isolated. Because he grew up around the very much non-human Gems, sometimes Steven has trouble with things like boundaries and interacting with humans.
♦ Self-esteem. Steven is usually pretty confident, but seeing how others react to him and how they treat him can shake this rather significantly.

[Steven seems to be enjoying himself. He has the camera propped on his shoulder like a phone, grinning at the screen with his Cleffa nuzzling on the shoulder opposite.] W-Whoa, now, stay still, okay? I wanna take a picture to send back to the Gems.

-- oh! It's a video! Heh, oops. [Steven chuckles at his mistake, gives the camera a little wave instead.] Hey! Hi there! I'm Steven, Steven Universe! I wonder who I should send this too -- maybe Connie and Dad -- oh, but I don't want to get in trouble...I don't know if I'm supposed to be here.

[Steven turns to the Cleffa, gives her a little poke.] Do YOU know where we are?

[The Cleffa makes a few noncommittal noises, burrows more against his fluffy hair.] Hmm. Ok. Guess we're on our own, huh?

Then maybe we should ask whoever can see this video! Can you tell me where we are? I really shouldn't be exploring somewhere new without the Gems with me! I mean, I can take care of myself, but they'll PROBABLY get mad. So if anyone sees a bunch of Gems wandering around, can you tell them to look for me? And maybe to bring me some fry bits? I'm kind of hungry.

Third Person Sample:

Being somewhere new without the other Gems here was...weird.

But Steven doesn't mind! He's big and responsible now, right? He can take care of himself. Besides, nothing here looked even remotely dangerous. He shifts the backpack on his shoulder a little and continues walking down Route 29, with the little pink blob he'd found earlier in his arms. She'd seemed perfectly content to come with him, so Steven was more than happy to adopt the little fella.

"Soooo...what's your name?" He tries, looking down at the fairy Pokemon. The Cleffa makes a few noises back up at him, twitches her ears. Not very helpful. "Do you not have a name? Want me to give you one? I'm kind of a name master, so I bet you'd like it." But what to call her...that, Steven was stuck on. It wasn't as obvious as Lion's name, since she didn't really look like anything Steven could think of.

He wishes Connie were her. Connie was so smart and imaginative, she'd have NO trouble helping him come up with a name. Steven pauses for a moment, can't help but feel a gnaw of worry for his friends. What if they were in trouble and he couldn't help them? What if they thought he was DEAD?

Such a thought was too dire to imagine. It was also hard to worry on an empty stomach, so Steven sighs and plops down against a nearby tree, roots through his bag for something to eat. "What do we have here... oh!" Ta-da! A lunch box. A little different than what his looked like back at home, but food was food and Steven thought it was cute. "...wanna share it with me?" He offers the bento to his Cleffa, who happily scrambles out of his arms to nibble at the contents.

She was adorable. Steven loved her already. At least, if he couldn't find the Gems or his friends anytime soon, he had at least ONE companion here.

Character
Name: Chie Hori
Series: Tokyo Ghoul
Timeline: After finding Tsukiyama on the rooftop

Canon Resource Links:
Tokyo Ghoul on Wikipedia
Chie Hori on the Tokyo Ghoul wiki

Personality:
To preface this, I would like to take a moment to explain that Tokyo Ghoul takes place in a world where creatures known as ghouls exist. They look human but are a completely different species and they feed exclusively on human flesh; the only human food they are able to digest is coffee. They have to hunt humans to survive, and in turn humans have formed organizations such as the CCG to combat the ghouls that prey upon mankind. Most ghouls are killed immediately once found, and those that aren't are thrown into prison.

Most people would describe Chie Hori as a bit of a weirdo, and that's a pretty accurate description. She rarely seems to sit down and take it easy and is always full of energy that she funnels into her passion, which is photography. The day she's without her camera is the day you pry it from her cold, lifeless hands. Whenever she has free time, she'll inevitably start climbing trees to get a good shot of the sky because a cloud looked nice or snap pictures of completely inane things like somebody's lawn. Photography is what keeps her going and she doesn't put the same amount of energy into anything else she does; her grades were average at best and although she got into a prestigious school on a scholarship, she only applied because it was closest to her home and after she entered university she barely showed up to class and instead spent her time pursuing things to photograph.

Odd quirks aside, Chie is just your average human raised by your average human parents. However, some say you can tell a lot about someone by their friends — and Chie's best friend, Shuu Tsukiyama, just happens to be a literal flesh-eating inhuman monster. He's not even one of the more peaceful ghouls; Tsukiyama is a dangerous serial killer who prides himself on his status as a predator. Not only is Chie fully aware of his true nature, she quite frankly doesn't care that her bestie eats people and she continues to willingly interact with him.

This completely cavalier attitude and lack of fucks to give stems from her rather... unusual way of viewing the world around her; to Chie Hori, all living things exist equally on the same plane. Humans, ghouls and even lesser animals such as frogs or cats are all the same to her and no life is intrinsically more or less valuable than another. She doesn't see a ghoul eating a human being as any different from a cat eating a mouse or a human stepping on a spider, and that's why she doesn't care if the people she hangs out with are serial killers.

She doesn't really see things as right or wrong, either. Let's say she were to see a stranger bleeding out in the streets — most people would help the person because that's what you should do, while Chie would be perfectly fine with a) just standing there and take a picture if it's interesting enough or b) simply walking away and she won't be berating herself later for not doing the right thing. Calling her a sadist would be a massive lie, though. She doesn't particularly enjoy people's suffering, nor does she deliberately try to cause it because she wouldn't get a kick out of it. She simply just accepts things as they are without letting morality dictate how she feels and as long as it's interesting, she generally doesn't care what happens to other people.

Her only real goals in life seem to be to take photos of interesting things and to keep herself amused. When she's not pursuing something to get a picture of, she's out looking for ways to amuse herself. That's the reason she's friends with Tsukiyama, really — he's both entertaining and a good subject for photography. Although the whole "anime Hannibal Lecter" thing he has contributes to making him interesting, simply being a ghoul isn't enough on its own; Chie isn't interested in joining the main character's merry gang of ghouls and only helps the group from time to time as long as they use Tsukiyama as a mediator. Getting too involved in the ghoul world is a risky business that isn't interesting enough to be worth the trouble, so she's content to hover on the sidelines where she can get what she wants and have her fun without drawing attention to herself.

When she helps people, don't expect her to be doing it out of kindness; in almost all cases, she's doing it because it will benefit her somehow, usually in the form of a good picture or because it will entertain her. The second novel is a good example, where Tsukiyama expresses his desire to eat an idol singer, which Chie immediately objects to because she considers the idol to be hers to take pictures of. She proceeds to seek out said idol, goes into hiding with her and is a general pain in Tsukiyama's neck for the duration of the story, all because she wants an interesting picture and not because saving a life would be a noble thing.

For the most part, Chie isn't too difficult to get along with — while she definitely is rather eccentric and lacking in the empathy department, she isn't malicious or nasty. She's somewhat of a loner in the sense that her number of friends can be counted on one hand and she's okay with it because she can easily keep herself amused, but she does enjoy spending time with those she likes and is happy to hang out with them. However, she's incredibly blunt about her opinions and will say what she thinks, sometimes tactlessly so with little regard for people's feelings which can make her seem cold. She also absolutely refuses to take shit or put up with things she doesn't like unless she stands to benefit from it in some way. If you want to tell her a boring story, she'll be quick to tell you that she doesn't want to hear it and if you insist chances are that she will vehemently ignore you and start playing with her camera instead until you start being interesting again.

It's easy to get the impression that she's completely self-serving and doesn't care for others beyond the entertainment she can give them, but her actions strongly suggest that isn't the case. She's still around three years after Tsukiyama falls into his plot-induced angst coma and instead of ditching a broken toy in favor of finding someone new and shiny to keep her amused, she's proactive and tries to fix him — even going as far as doing things that could risk attracting the CCG's attention (which she certainly doesn't want, given that some of the things she does are illegal) if she doesn't play her cards right. Once she's invested in someone, it comes with loyalty and while she doesn't express it particularly well, she does look out for the people she's grown fond of in her own way.

Timeline: Between episodes 40 and 49
Canon Resource Links:
Pegasus on the Yugioh Wiki

Personality:
Pegasus is, first and foremost, a showman. Almost everything he does is theatrical and over-dramatic, even when he's being serious. It's not enough, for example, to use his mind-reading abilities to humiliate and one-turn-kill a duelist he finds obnoxious. Pegasus instead chooses to write out detailed instructions and allow a young child in the audience -a complete novice- to mete out his humiliation instead; in the aftermath, he takes the opportunity to teach a large group of children from the audience the finer points of the game, even gifting one of them with the deck he'd been using in the tournament. Keith was just a means to an end, a chance for Pegasus to show off and get some free advertising for his game. Similarly, when a shady business deal demands that he defeat Yugi Mutou publicly, it's not enough to request a duel with someone with Yugi's already-impressive reputation. Pegasus has to host an entire tournament on his own private island, all with the sole intention of facing Yugi in the final round. Utterly confident in his own abilities -supernatural or otherwise- Pegasus enjoys hamming it up even in situations that should be serious; his duel with Kaiba, for example, was all about him stringing his opponent along before shutting down every avenue but defeat. Pegasus likes being in control, and at his worst his jokey dialogue is one more way of asserting that. He doesn't HAVE to take you seriously, he's Maximillion Pegasus. Even when he begins losing, his phrasing is all thoroughly dramatic, though the jokes and puns are often dropped in favor of outright hostility or contempt. At his best, his jokey demeanor is something he finds genuinely funny; he laughs at his own jokes, even if no one else does (if they do, well, that's just a bonus).

As mentioned, Pegasus has a flair for the dramatic, but he also has a love for the visual arts. Before becoming a game designer, he was a painter - there are numerous paintings of his late wife in his castle at Duelist Kingdom, and he’s painted art for many of the cards in Duel Monsters personally (notably the three Egyptian God Cards). He also has an immense fondness for animation and cartoons, going so far as to create a series of custom ‘Toon’ monsters for himself and gushing about how cartoons are “the perfect life forms”.

Pegasus is tied deeply to the past, both magically and through a very difficult time letting things go. He was willing to gouge his own eye out, on the word of a stranger, because there was a chance it might let him see his dead wife again. When the insane risk does offer a glimpse into the afterlife, it only drives him to further attempts to reclaim the past, including kidnapping, manipulation, and the aforementioned tournament aimed entirely at defeating one teenager in a children’s card game. It took not only a defeat at his own game, but losing his eye (again) and the source of his power to get him to finally give up his dreams of playing Orpheus. Even after this, he seems to dwell on his own villainous past and the depths to which he’d sunk, trying to make up for it; every successive appearance bigger than a phone call involves him trying to help the protagonists get in front of whatever the latest threat to the world is. Even after his tentative redemption, he retains his odd sense of humor; noted examples include producing parodic ‘Toon’ versions of some of Yugi and Kaiba’s favorite monsters for his own personal use, or releasing a card depicting Seto Kaiba cosplaying his own dragon to the general public.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Artistic Abilities: Pegasus is a prolific painter, and can create photorealistic (in-universe, anyway) paintings of both reality and creatures that have never actually existed.
+Showmanship: As discussed above, Pegasus is very good at working a crowd and holding people’s attention.
+Gaming Skills: Even without his mind-reading abilities, Pegasus has proven quite adept at Duel Monsters (he should, considering he invented it).
+Poker Face: As hammy as his acting can be, he’s pretty good at keeping a lid on his actual plans until it’s showtime.
+Egyptian History: Pegasus took a great deal of interest in and researched Ancient Egyptian history and myths, particularly their beliefs about the afterlife.
+Computer Proficiency: He’s no hacker, but Pegasus works with electronics and computer systems at least as advanced as those found in Johto on a daily basis.
-/+Everything’s A Game: Pegasus tends to think in terms of games, even in situations that should be serious. Normally a detriment, this may be less of one in such a game-like setting as Route.
-/+Learns From His Mistakes… Eventually: Making a set of cards based on the Egyptian Gods almost destroyed the world and killed anyone who worked on them? Better make a second trio of ultra-powerful cards, just call them ‘Sacred Beasts’ instead. And one more fake god card. For science.
-/+Curiousity: Pegasus has something of an adventurous spirit, but it’s as likely to lead him into a forbidden underground tomb as it is to lead to some new monster’s spirit tablet.
-Cannot Take Elsa’s Advice Let It Go: Pegasus has a difficult time letting go of the past, for good or ill.
-Physical Abilities: Even when going on archeological expeditions for some new monster tablet, the most strenuous thing Pegasus usually does is painting. “Physical sports aren’t really [his] thing.”
-Adult Child: Pegasus can be, at times, quite childish and not take things seriously, or at least appear not to. While not inherently a bad thing, it may make it hard to connect with anyone close to his own age.
-Privileged Upbringing: Pegasus was born wealthy, and has spent very little time truly fending for himself.
-No Outdoorsman Skills: Related to the above, Pegasus is perfectly capable of surviving outdoors. If he’s provided with a helicopter, supplies, radio or other communication devices, and at least one skilled guide.
-All My Friends Are Dead: Pegasus has no close loved ones anymore, and is likely very lonely.

Good MORNING, Pokéworld!

[Wow, it is way too early for someone to be this chipper on the network, but there’s Pegasus grinning out at everyone.]

I do apologize for the early morning broadcast, but I’m afraid I just couldn’t contain my excitement. You see, this morning I awoke to discover that some of my Pokemon have been QUITE industrious when I wasn’t watching.

[He steps to one side and makes a sweeping gesture at his bed, on which rest an artfully arranged clutch of eggs in a carefully folded nest of blankets and sheets. A Dratini is draped around the pile, and a Slowpoke is snuggled up on the opposite side. Not saying that the two of them were in any way responsible for any of these, but it was totally them.]

I’m afraid I can’t be absolutely certain of the exact numbers just yet, but I CAN say there one or two Dratini eggs, several Slowpoke eggs, and quite a few Feebas.

[Pegasus turns the camera back to his own smiling face.]

These eggs are priced QUITE reasonably, I think, at P1200, P800, and P500, respectively. And I’m more than willing to trade or come to some other arrangement, if you’d care to make an offer!

[He holds up a finger, as if cutting off some kind of interruption or question.]

Oh, AND one more thing.

[From an interior pocket on his coat, he produces a small painting roughly the size of a note card, depicting the Dratini draped over her eggs in the background.]

Each egg purchased will be sent along with a unique painting such as this -hand painted by yours truly, of course!- featuring your new addition’s parent or Pokemon of your choice.

[He tucks the painted card back away, giving a small bow to the camera.]

I look forward to doing business with you ALL. Thank you.

“Just what ARE you, exactly.”

Pegasus squatted, poking at the small… gourd creature in front of him. It certainly felt solid enough, this was no hologram. And if it were some kind of shadow illusion or penalty game, it was the most esoteric one Pegasus had ever witnessed. The town was bright and sunny, if a bit quiet; and the woman claiming to be his mother was a bit disturbing, but she had hardly tried at all to bite his face off and drink his soul. It was certainly more hospitable than than the private medical facilities he’d spent the last week or so in. The crisp air was a pleasant change from the sting of antiseptic, and the prosthetic that had replaced his Millenium Eye had ceased paining him entirely.

“Boo.”

The gourd monster took a step back at Pegasus’ prodding, looking up at him expectantly with glowing yellow eyes.

“Yes, thank you, we’ve established that. ‘Boo’. I must say, however, that that QUITE fails to provide me with any useful information.”

They regarded each other for a moment in silence; eventually Pegasus stood, slipping on the backpack that had been foisted onto him as he was forcibly removed from the house. He took a few steps, stopping when he felt something bump into the back of his ankle. Looking over his shoulder with his one good eye, he found the Pumpkaboo again looking up at him expectantly.

“No-”

He turned again, nudging at it gently with a shoe.

“No. No thank you, I am QUITE happy without a pet, much less an animate vegetable.”

“Boo!”

“Yes, very frightening, ooh. But please, leave me alone.”

He gave the creature another small nudge with the toe of his shoe.

“I know it’s a BIT before Halloween, but I’m sure you can find a nice vegetable patch to haunt. Rise out of it at midnight and deliver toys to all the good little boys and girls, I’m sure you’ll be absolutely MARVELOUS at it and make some boy with a security blanket VERY happy. Now I must be on my way, THANK YOU.”

Pegasus gave the Pumpkaboo one last nudge in the general direction of ‘not with me’ and turned away again. He had taken about five steps when he felt another small impact -rather more forceful than before- on the back of his leg, accompanied by an an indignant ‘Boo!’. He sighed, turning back around and squatting again in front of the… whatever it was.

“You’re quite the persistent little jack-o-napes, aren’t you. And yes, ‘boo’, before you can say it.”

“Pum.”

Pegasus snickered a bit, looking down at his tagalong.

“Was that your idea of a JOKE?”

“Boo.”

They stared at each other a while longer before Pegasus sighed, picking up the Pumpkaboo with a small grunt of effort. It was heavier than it looked.

“Oh, VERY WELL. If you’re going to insist on following me anyway, it might as well be WITHOUT scuffing my shoes. They were QUITE expensive, I’ll have you know.”

“Boo!”

Pegasus sighed, giving the Pumpkaboo a small pat on the- was it a head?- before heading off in the direction he hoped was actual civilization. He would have prefered several large men with guns for his entourage, but he had to admit he could do worse. The little gourd monster was at least cute.

In Fire Emblem: Awakening most of the female units have future children. Nowi is no exception and has a daughter from the future, Nah. To make things easier on anyone interested in apping in, I'm not having Nowi married to anyone right now. I'm willing to work with anyone who wishes to app in Nowi's spouse or Nah with a specific father. Nowi also has no supports at this time. Finally, the player-created character ("Robin" is the default name Nowi will be using) can be either a girl or a boy, so I will avoid mentioning too much about them in game.

[personal profile] invigorating 2015-05-02 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Despite her appearance, Nowi is not a young girl. In fact, Nowi isn't human at all. She's a Manakete, a dragon in human form who is capable of turning into a dragon and battling. She has lived for over a thousand years and has seen quite a bit of the world, but despite that, Nowi still acts like a child. She's very immature and carefree, opting to play despite being a member of an army that is stuck facing two wars within the span of a few years. She rarely takes things seriously and is most often seen bugging members of the army to play with her or playing with the local children. She doesn't seem to understand that turning into a dragon would scare children away and is clearly bothered by scaring her playmates off. This is due in part to her fear of being alone, but we'll come back to that. On the surface, she seems to be an incredibly shallow person, but there's a surprising layer to depth that Nowi shows, especially in regards to her future daughter, Nah.

The first thing one will notice about Nowi is her appearance. She looks like she could pass for fifteen at the oldest, but as revealed in game, Manaketes age very slowly. Nowi really doesn't help this image since she acts like a child. Her favorite thing to do is play. Whether this is games like playing house or turning into a dragon and trying to hit her fellow Shepards with her dragon breath doesn't matter; as long as she's having fun, she's in a good mood. She tends to prioritize playing over everything else, including training and any sort of responsibilities she might have in the army. (Of course no one would actually trust her with anything - there's no way she'd get it done.) Nowi does have her reasons for being so obsessed with messing around though.

It would be easy to assume that Nowi doesn't know what's going on and is only hanging out with the Shepards because it gives her a chance to stretch her wings and fight some Risen. The truth is that Nowi is fully aware of what's going on and understands her place in it. Some people are better suited to take care of provisions and tactics and Nowi is definitely not one of them. Her (self-decided) place in the army is to serve as a distraction. While everyone else is worried about dying or what battles might come, Nowi can at least brighten their days a little bit just by being ridiculously over the top with her vibrant personality and her desire for distractions. Of course this isn't a selfless thing - Nowi genuinely does love playing and will seek out anyone in the army to play with her, even the most asocial ones.

Nowi's moments of surprising insight don't stop there though. Her future daughter, Nah, is a prime example of how nurturing Nowi can be. She not only cares deeply about her daughter, she shows a good amount of maturity when dealing with her. Nowi acknowledges her own faults (such as playing instead of actually training) but she points out that constantly working yourself to the bone isn't going to help either. She gets very concerned when Nah starts using the Dragonstone to train frequently, which can be dangerous to a young Manakete. It's one of the few times Nowi actually puts her foot down in a way that doesn't involve crying and pouting to get her way, but it's a moment of surprising maturity coming from someone like her. Nowi reveals to Nah that the whole time they've spent playing has been one massive training exercise, which shows an unusual amount of foresight for Nowi. She's definitely not the best mother in the army, but she's trying her best to keep Nah's spirits up and make sure that she's trained for battle. At Nowi's current canon point, she won't know who Nah is, but she won't act any differently if she does find out.

Nah isn't the only person Nowi puts her all into helping. Nowi's very fond of everyone in the army, actually. She can't get support conversations with all of them, but she's always cheery and upbeat in the ones she does have. She's friendly and outgoing and knows just about everyone in camp. Her friendliness seems to know no bounds - she even manages to get Lon'qu, the most stoic member of the army to play games with her. Making friends is never a problem for Nowi, but that does lead into some issues later on...

As a Manakete, Nowi will live for a very long time. She's already over a thousand years old with little signs of aging. Nowi will definitely outlive all of her friends. She's fully aware of this, but unlike Tiki - another Manakete - Nowi decides that she wants to spend all her time around humans and get to know them. She thinks that spending her time with the others will make it easier to remember them and is much better than isolating herself from humans. If she is unmarried by the end of the game, Nowi is said to attempt to distance herself from humans, only to decide that she misses people and attempt to reunite with her old friends. She's the sort of person who craves contact with other people - to the point of wanting any sort of attention, be it positive or negative.

Attention seeking isn't always a bad thing, but with Nowi, she's very pushy about it. She doesn't take no for an answer. If you want her to leave you alone and she's decided she wants something from you, then you'd better hope you can find a way to hide from her. She'll probably decide it's just a game of hide-and-seek though, so that probably won't help. The point is that once Nowi has set her mind to something, she's going to pursue it forever... or at least until she gets bored. Trying to ignore Nowi or shoo her away won't help. She sees it as a challenge and won't give up until she's befriended the unfortunate person. Needless to say it's very annoying and isn't winning her any favors. That pushy behavior also extends to those she is friends with. When Nowi wants to play, you're going to drop everything and play with her or she'll pout and whine and maybe even cry if it'll get her what she wants. In that aspect, she's very manipulative. She knows she's cute and she knows that if she starts wailing everyone in the camp will come running to her aid. She'll always use that to get what she wants, which is usually playing and goofing off. Nowi would never call it manipulative and would be upset at the accusation, but that's what her behavior is. She would never use this for evil, just playtime.

Nowi is a very emotional person. This normally expresses itself in joy - Nowi's almost always extremely happy despite the fact that the Shepards are fighting in a war. Nowi does cry easily and even get upset quickly, though all those emotions can be set back to joy very easily. Her mood swings are pretty extreme, but they never seem violent. She's normally very happy-go-lucky and laid-back, especially about training, as mentioned before.

Perhaps the ultimate cause of Nowi's attention-seeking behavior and attempts to get in everyone's face is because of an underlying loneliness. Nowi knows that she's going to be left alone when everyone dies. She'll outlive them all and be left alone, like she has been numerous times in the past. While she tries not to dwell on it, she is aware of her situation and it scares her. Making friends and focusing on that helps, but sometimes she can't help but think about what will happen in the future.

After living for so long, Nowi has picked up quite a few skills. She's well-traveled and surprisingly used to hardship despite her attitude and personality. She has no trouble keeping up with the rest of the army, even when she's reclassed and taught to use an axe or magic. Nowi will complain of course, but she's never very serious about it and has no intention of ever leaving her friends. She has no issues fighting Risen or people, though she tends to sort them into black-and-white categories. The people they're fighting are always the "bad guys". Nowi can actually be pretty vicious on the battlefield, but thankfully that only shows up when she's fighting. Otherwise she's pretty cheerful and laid-back. Except when she's trying to get you to play Duck Duck Dragon...

Finally, Nowi's got her head in the clouds. She's forgetful, particularly when it comes to her past. She doesn't really remember her parents or where she was born or even exactly how old she is. She tends to lose focus on things quickly and moves from one interest to the next easily. Nowi never gives up on or leaves her friends though - she prioritizes them just as highly as she prioritizes goofing off! Take it as a compliment and try not to think about that for too long.

Nowi's definitely an oddball in an army facing two wars in two years, but she's not a liability. She can handle herself and she knows her place, even if her place is playing and messing around just to get everyone else to crack a smile. She's not all selfless, of course - Nowi genuinely enjoys what she does and even gets upset when people won't give in to her desires. She's not a bad person though, and she's still figuring out how to deal with people, even though she's been around for a thousand years. Maybe someday she'll realize that potentially hurting people isn't a good way to play. Until that day though, you're probably going to be suckered into dealing with at least one round of hide-and-seek or tag.

Ginti on the Death Parade wiki

Personality: The most immediately noticeable thing about Ginti is honestly that he's not here for any of this.

Exactly what "this" is tends to vary depending on his current situation – it ranges anywhere from "his job" to "your face" and covers just about everything inbetween – but the fact remains that he is absolutely not here for it; his outward demeanor is generally one of boredom and general irritation with the world. He doesn't have much patience for people, especially when they don't act in ways that he thinks they should; he seems to expect everyone to be punctual and adhere to rules that he may or may not have actually told them, and he's quick to be annoyed when they don't magically intuit what they want to do – for example, he becomes snappish and agitated when someone doesn't call his cat by her name, despite the fact that he hadn't actually told them the cat's name in the first place. His speech is also very blunt overall, both in word choice and tone, and he doesn't seem to have either the time or the inclination to be polite to people that he doesn't have reason to care about (and he's often not very polite to them either); combined with the fact that his facial expression is usually set in some variation on "glaring", he tends to come off as rude at best, and mean or easily set-off at worst.

Given his line of work, that's probably not very comforting for the people he's expected to handle on a daily basis: Ginti is an arbiter, charged with deciding the fate of people's souls after they die. For the most part, he seems to see this as a job and nothing else; in fact, his general attitude toward it is not unlike someone who's worked in retail a bit too long. From the one judgment session we see him overseeing, he seems bored throughout the whole thing, and he doesn't even seem to be paying much attention for the first long while – instead, he's keeping to himself across the room, once in a while glancing up and seeing that everything's still going in a more or less forward direction but mostly just reading a magazine while his cat, Memine, presses the button that keeps the game running. (On the one hand, the magazine seems to have a lot of articles about one of the people he's judging; on the other, it's...pretty obviously a tabloid.)

However, his demeanor changes once he decides that the game has gone on too long; rather than getting annoyed further by the fact that no one seems to be winning or losing, he seems pleased with it, going so far as to declare the sudden death rounds "[his] favorite part." The changes he initiates in the game after that are designed to create an "extreme condition," which as far as arbiters are concerned are to be used to draw out the darkness in people's souls so they can be judged properly; these extreme conditions often lead to a lot of pain and suffering (both emotional and physical) on the part of the people being judged, and Ginti seems to take a weirdly sadistic joy in creating them – one that goes well beyond wanting to ensure that a fair judgment is carried out.

Part of this may be just how he processed the way arbiters are supposed to work; he's still relatively new at his job – he's only been an arbiter for five years and it's implied that arbiters are very long-lived, seeing that his boss, Nona, has been around for at least eighty-two years and doesn't show signs of stopping anytime soon – and as such he doesn't have very much experience as far as just existing in general goes. He was presumably created as a blank slate (it's entirely possible that if we get more canon materials I will end up being jossed and there are implications that this may not be the case, but as of this writing, that's what we have been given as the state of things) and after that, he was immediately taught that human suffering is a good thing and a valid way to get results of out them; he's very excited over the idea of getting to create extreme conditions when he's shown being trained by Nona, and he seems eager to treat it as some sort of game of his own. So it's partially a conditioned response, but to leave it there is to take all responsibility off of him when that is nowhere near accurate or appropriate – it implies that he doesn't know what he's doing, when it's obvious that he definitely does. Bluntly put, he understands that he's hurting people and he enjoys doing it; he thinks making people suffer is fun, straight-up calling it "entertainment," and it looks like the only part of his job that he actually likes.

It's ironic, then, that his job is most of the reason why he enjoys making people suffer; Ginti is very arrogant, believing that his status as an arbiter makes him superior to humans because it gives him both an explicit purpose and a heightened understanding of life and death. He believes humans are foolish for clinging to life, interpreting their drive and desire to prolong their lives as ignorance and willful denial of the fact that one day they'll die; he fails to see a point in their lives at all – though it's worth noting as well that he's not necessarily happy with that notion. He still considers himself above humans, but if he finds someone that he thinks is worth asking, he'll ask them why they do what it is they do, or what they live for; the problem is that most people can't answer him in a way that he finds satisfying or complete, which only serves to frustrate him further. This is due at least in part to the fact that his actual understanding of emotions and how they factor in to people behaving as they do is very poor; he does seem to understand basic emotions like happiness, fear and anger, and sometimes he talks about more complex states of being like regret and despair, but his discussion of the latter, more complex things tends to be very clinical and straightforward – as though they're something he's heard about rather than something he knows for himself. He also makes it plain on more than one occasion that concepts like "love" and "dedicating oneself to another" are completely beyond him in terms of comprehension, and he's quick to dismiss them as pointless or invalid as opposed to anything that should have an effect on people's behavior.

Basically, he's easily frustrated by people and things that don't line up with the way he thinks the world should work, and this tends to lead to all sorts of problems with dealing with others; namely, he's got a horrible temper. It also doesn't help that Ginti isn't terribly bright when compared to the rest of the Death Parade cast; he's not stupid, since he couldn't do his job if he was, but he tends to have a very simplistic view of things that tends to trip him up when he's arguing a point with someone and he tends to solve his everyday problems through shouting at or attacking them rather than trying to rationalize. He doesn't express himself very well, particularly if he second-guesses something he's saying or someone asks him something he doesn't want to answer; when things like that happen he tends to get agitated and angry and not want to talk, and it's not unheard of for him to physically storm out of a conversation if he ends up verbally backed into a corner.

All of this isn't to say, however, that he's completely incapable of caring about anything in any sort of meaningful way; he hesitates to actually do his job and pass judgment on someone that makes a strong enough impression on him in several ways, and he's very gentle with his cat. However, it takes a lot to get him to show any sort of softer side, and even when he does he'll second-guess it and often get agitated until he manages to resolve the issue in a way he finds acceptable.

Until then...well, as was said at the beginning – Ginti is not here for any of this. Shame Johto's not giving him much choice!

Strengths/Weaknesses:
MAYBE WE CAN JUST BRUTE FORCE IT
Physically speaking, Ginti is both strong and incredibly fast, far moreso than most human beings, and he's also ridiculously agile despite his height; he's got a hell of a sprint on him and does a lot of physics-defying gymnastics. This will be toned down in Route because of the humanizing rule, as it's most likely an arbiter thing as opposed to anything deliberately trained-up.

YOU KNOW YOU'VE GOT TO ASSERT YOURSELF
Bluntly put, Ginti is not in the practice of taking crap from anybody – he's more than willing to stand up for himself and get his own thoughts and ideas out there, even if he has to get up in people's faces to do it. His problem-solving skills are also acceptably decent, even if they tend to be a bit cruel; the switch arbiters use to create extreme conditions seem to be heavily influenced by the arbiters themselves.

IT MAY NOT BE NICE, BUT IT'S FAIR
He's actually a surprisingly decent judge of character – he honestly has to be given his job. He knows what he's looking for in terms of understanding people's motivations; he doesn't always understand the emotions that caused people to act as they do, but he can usually see how things connect in ways that a lot of people won't – for example, canon has him judging someone who saves another person, but does it for reasons that are ultimately self-serving, and Ginti can easily discern the difference rather than allowing his opinion to be swayed by the gesture itself.

✔/✘ "THERE IS NO REASON. I'M AN ARBITER, THAT'S WHY."
As an arbiter, Ginti has spent his life completely distant from what can be considered a normal human experience. This is to his benefit in some ways, given that it's granted him an ability to see things in ways that most people wouldn't and come up with solutions for problems that may be unexpected or unusual as a result. At the same time, his sense of empathy is very poor and the things he decides to do often don't take the thoughts and feelings of others into account, to put it very lightly.

✔/✘ APPARENTLY I CAN'T APP ANYTHING WITHOUT AN OBLIGATORY "CANON-BASED BULLSHIT" SECTION
On the plus side, Ginti is used to weird supernatural crap, uncanny powers, and human souls taking physical form, so the Pokémon and their abilities shouldn't throw him off too badly. ...On the negative, he's used to being the guy with the uncanny powers who's using the weird supernatural crap to his advantage, so he's going to have to either get used to a completely different fighting style or otherwise work out how to adapt.

PARAGON OF TACT AND SOCIAL GRACE
To say that he's blunt is understating it; he seems to have no brain-to-mouth filter whatsoever, and he's often tactless to the point of rudeness. If a thought crosses his mind it's almost guaranteed to come out of his mouth, and even if he manages to not broadcast his totally asked-for opinion to the room at large, it's pretty obviously all over his face. Ginti also has next to no indoor voice and he's incredibly aggressive when he's worked up - he's rather prone to getting all up in people's business without a second thought, and he seems to prefer intimidating people into listening to him rather than presenting a valid point. If he has the choice between giving a rational argument and yelling until the other person backs down, he'll almost always choose the latter over the former. He also tends to not express himself very well in general, particularly when he's worked up; he's very good at getting "YOU NEED TO [DO X THING] RIGHT NOW" across, but everything else tends to be not expressed at all at best and completely incoherent at worst.

YOU'RE HERE FOR MY ENTERTAINMENT
Fair judgement or not, he has a massive sadistic streak; he just really likes watching people in peril and seeing what they'll do to get themselves out of it. He's perfectly willing to put them in those situations if he sees fit to do so; he'll have less of a reason to do that in Johto, however, as what he does usually relates to his job and there's no canon-given reason to think that he'll be some sort of tremendous sociopath. But if there just so happen to be a situation where it comes up...well, let's just say he won't be fighting the good fight against Team Rocket and leave it at that.

"BECAUSE HUMANS ARE IDIOTS, RIGHT?"
Ginti's got a superiority complex roughly the side of a small moon, and he isn't afraid to voice it, either – no matter whom he's talking to. Part of it is just the abovementioned lack of tact problem, but part of it is just a tendency to talk down to people that he doesn't think are worth his time. He's perfectly willing to ask people why they do things that he doesn't get or doesn't like (and call them stupid if they can't answer him "properly"), and he's also very prone to just...telling humans that all of humanity is really damn stupid as far as he's concerned. He also tends to be a lot ruder to them than he does nonhuman things, such as other arbiters. This is probably not going to make him terribly popular with the human populace, and he will probably not be too thrilled about suddenly being a member of the human popular.

GO THE HELL OUTSIDE
As was mentioned above, Ginti has spent his entire life completely separate from humans – that is to say, he's never been in the living world before Johto's going to unceremoniously drop him there. He's completely unused to doing anything to survive on his own, because he's been provided for as long as he's existed; he's also unused to being able to die and actually requiring things like sleep as a physical necessity. ...Essentially, "at least he's used to the notion of eating and drinking" is the best thing that can be said about his survival skills and that is really kind of sad.

First Person Sample:
So I've got a bunch of fish for you guys this time.

[Well, it seems Ginti is, as usual, pleased to see everyone – by which I mean he's camped on the hotel bed, sitting curled up on it with his chin propped in his hand, looking both bored out of his mind and like he'd rather be anywhere but here.

He's got a Feebas plunked in his lap, though, and he's petting it much in the same way one would pet a cat, if cats had fins to be navigated around; whether he wants to be here or not, it seems like he's at least taking the whole breeding thing seriously. After all, it's what this place has decided he's supposed to do, so he might as well.]

Before you say anything, yes, you're getting dragged through the usual song and dance before you can have one. No payment, either, you're getting these things for free, so if you can't be bothered to fill out the forms then you don't really want one, do you?

And if you're going to ask why I'm bothering with all this procedure for a bunch of fish, then you also don't really want one, so don't waste my time.

[Literally all they want, after all, is to have you pet them and call them pretty. You'd better pet them and call them pretty. They even purr when you pet them, for hell's sake.]

I don't do any get-out-of-bureaucracy-free things for newcomers, either. Just answer the stupid questions, most of you know how it goes by now.

[That said, for those newcomers who have absolutely no idea what he's talking about with regards to procedure, the video is followed with a second text post to the network, containing– oh dear god that is legitimately at least thirty-five questions on this questionnaire. Some seem relevant, but others are...well, there's a lot of emphasis on what you're going to name it, among other things; apparently people who name their dog "Dog" need not apply.

Granted, it is a free fish, and the egg moves will probably make it entirely worth it; at the same time, Ginti, why.]

Third Person Sample:
Of all things to get used to, Ginti was probably never going to get over the number of people that felt the need to stuff themselves into this city.

He'd heard that Goldenrod was huge and densely-populated, and that there were a lot of the "foreigners" or whatever in that general area, but he hadn't quite been prepared for the sheer mass of humanity waiting for him there; it'd been something he'd seen in memories, of course, something he'd heard of, but nothing he'd seen for himself. He doesn't miss the Tower – he hasn't missed the Tower since he'd come here and gotten at least vaguely adjusted to being outdoors – but this place almost makes him miss the relative quiet of it.

It takes him a while to settle, to clear his head; he finds himself just mechanically following the professor's advice that he'd gotten several towns back. Just look for the stupid red roof and get your Pokémon healed up. Do that first thing, worry about the rest later. Welcome to the hideously confusing world of Pokémon, enjoy your stay.

There were a few things to consider, though, while one waited for the machines to run their course; where there were people there were bound to be those who would seek ways to entertain themselves, and from what he'd heard this was something of a party city.

And that meant bar crawls.

Back home, if he'd had a choice (if he'd thought he would ever have a choice), he wouldn't have wanted to work another bar again; on top of that, living people tend to be a mess. But he's also pretty aware that working is probably a good idea, assuming he wants to remain among those living people and not dead in a ditch somewhere.

So maybe it won't be so bad. Work for a while before attempting a couple more badges. Besides, in his experience? The living tip way better than the dead.

Character
Name: Lapis Lazuli
Series: Steven Universe
Timeline: after the events of 1x49, "Jailbreak"
Canon Resource Links: Lapis @ Steven Universe Wikia

Personality: Lapis is a rather interesting individual, and despite her relatively short screentime, she made quite a splash. I promise that will be the only intentional water pun in this app.

Lapis is, first and foremost, driven by her desire to be free. For hundreds - if not thousands - of years, she was trapped in a mirror, forced to show any user information she had witnessed since the moment of the mirror's creation. When she was freed from that, she was taken prisoner not long after. Therefore, her desire to just be free and live her life is pretty understandable. And even in her cracked, semi-corrupted state, that's all that really matters to her.

This leads to her doing some... rather questionable things. And by "rather questionable" I mean "outright bad". When Steven freed her from her mirror prison, she attacks the Crystal Gems, and later steals all the water in the ocean. This actually isn't out of malicious intent, believe it or not; she was defending herself in the former, and in the latter, she was just doing the only thing she knew how to do to go home. After everything that happened to her, all Lapis wants is to be left alone, but people and circumstances keep getting in the way of that, and so, she lashes out.

Besides, it's hard to tell if this malicious behavior is even part of her normal character. When she did what she did, her gem was cracked badly; this, as we saw this Amethyst, can lead to a gem acting addled and irrational. And while Lapis seemed more lucid, her gem was still damaged badly enough to affect her considerably strong powers, so it's very likely it affected her emotional state as well. This is supported by the fact that, when captured by the Homeworld Gems, Lapis makes no effort to escape, and in fact seems pretty resigned to her fate. Then again, with what we've seen of Homeworld's capabilities, it's pretty reasonable that she didn't fight back, especially against Jasper...

Lapis has, thanks to her consecutive imprisonments, become a very pessimistic person. She lost all faith in Homeworld upon seeing how corrupted the Homeworld Gems have become, and even though she gave the Crystal Gems ample time to prepare with how early she sent out her warning, she believes that there's no point in fighting them. She even tried convincing Steven to just do as Jasper and Peridot said and hope that they're merciful. This is a far cry from the scared, lonely girl who fought so hard just so she could go home. Because of all these events, it's pretty likely that Lapis has become completely disillusioned with her people, and will likely be wary of them for a long time to come.

That being said! Lapis isn't all doom and gloom. Underneath that lonely, pessimistic attitude is a girl who, when given a chance to shine, is a fiercely loyal friend.

When Steven earns her friendship during her time in the mirror - simply by treating her as a person rather than an object - she quickly becomes fiercely protective of him. She defies orders, goes behind the backs of her own kind and generally does whatever is in her power to help Steven stay safe. So great is her desire to help her only friend that she gave up any chance that she had at freedom - the one and only thing she wanted after escaping the mirror - to keep Jasper trapped at the bottom of the ocean. Part of this was for herself, of course; Lapis was absolutely fed up with being used and imprisoned by nearly everyone she came in contact with, so when the chance to turn the tides I'm sorry I know I promised no more water puns appeared before her, she took it without second thought. She was taking back some measure of control of her life and helping the friend who gave her the encouragement she needed to do so at the same time.

Lapis also has quite the playful side to her, if her actions while trapped in the mirror are anything to go by! She was rather mischievous in this form, laughing along with Steven's antics, encouraging him, and even blowing raspberries during Mayor Dewey's speech, just to get everyone to laugh. She can be silly, can play and joke the same as everyone else, and there could be hope that this side of her can still come out. She just... yanno. Needs to be in a situation where she or her wellbeing isn't being threatened.

This also helps set her apart from the Homeworld Gems. She happily played with someone who appears to be human, unlike Jasper and Peridot, who just seem to view humans as vermin. Lapis may hold no love (or hate) for humanity as a whole, but she didn't lash out or intentionally torment the Beach City residents when she stole the ocean's water, even though she could've done so easily. This is certainly worth noting, as Lapis is from a time where even the Crystal Gems looked down on humanity. She's far from being a lover of humans, but at the very least, she doesn't seem to see them as beneath her.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Technological understanding: the Gem Homeworld is a highly advanced civilization, whose technological advancements are thousands of years ahead of Earth's. Though Lapis is a bit behind the times with Homeworld's tech as it is in this day and age, she's still familiar with tech far more advanced than our own.

+ Affinity to Water: Though she won't have her powers in Route, she's still pretty in-tune with the ocean without them. She seems to care a lot about aquatic life; when she made a pillar with all the water of Earth's oceans, she made sure to keep the wildlife inside of it, rather than let them die on the newly uncovered land.

+ Mental Strength: Lapis is mentally (and physically) strong enough to maintain a fusion with someone she's not totally in sync with - something that, as seen with Amethyst and Pearl, was thought to be impossible. She's also strong enough to be the dominant one in the fusion, and can still use her powers, even against herself (as part of the fusion).

- Trauma: Lapis has been pretty traumatized by everything that's happened to her. Between being trapped in a mirror for a few hundred years, being taken prisoner by her own kind, and being forced to fuse with her jailor, she's... a little bit emotionally exhausted with everything.

- Wariness Around People (Who Aren't Steven): Lapis has been imprisoned by more or less everyone she interacted with for the past few hundred years, so she'll probably be a bit suspicious if people try and get her to go along with even the most harmless-sounding plans.

- Apathy for Other People (Who Aren't Steven): on that note, Lapis doesn't particularly care for the fate of humanity or the Crystal Gems. Everything she did after returning to Homeworld she did to help Steven or herself. That's it. Whether she'll have a change of heart right now remains to be seen.

First Person Sample: This isn't funny! [... Hey... hey there, Route. There's a rather angry-looking girl glaring into the 'gear this fine day.] You really think it's funny to kidnap someone and act like nothing's wrong?! What is wrong with humans?

[The girl grits her teeth, and her expression softens from anger to a bitter frustration. She's mumbling now, more to herself than to her audience on the network.] This happens.... this always happens... I try to do something and it always just blows up like this... I don't know why I keep trying.

[... Because she had someone who believed in her. That's why. And that someone was now in danger. If she was here, alone, then that meant that Jasper was free back in Beach City's ocean. Jasper can go after the Crystal Gems - go after Steven - and she can't let that happen.]

Listen, I... I can't stay here. I need to go-- go back to the place I came from. [Because Beach City wasn't home. She didn't really have a home anymore, did she?] There has to be some way out. Someone here better tell me!

Third Person Sample: Months. It had been months since Lapis had last seen the ocean. Time wasn't really something that Gems paid much attention to, but in this world, Lapis wasn't a Gem. She was a human, with human perceptions, so a few months felt like an utter eternity to her. And an eternity without being close to her element, unwillingly trapped in a completely strange land? It was almost as bad as her time in the mirror.

She may not have the same bond with the ocean she had as a Gem, but there was still something there. A tugging in her chest, a sense of longing simultaneously mixed with a wave of calm washing over her as she caught the scent of the sea, and heard the cry of the Wingull overhead. It was like being whole again, so when she and Steven reached the beach city everyone talked so fondly about, she had immediately taken off in the direction of the shoreline. She's sure Steven would follow, or go off on his own and look for her later, so she let him do his own thing.

And so, here she was, shoes off and toes wiggling in the sand as she sets her things down away from the water. Her Horsea is out, already splashing happily in the shallows, and Lapis couldn't stop a grin from spreading across her face. For the first time in countless years, she felt like she was home. Not even returning to Homeworld felt this good.

Her feeling of contentment didn't last long, however. It seems that her Horsea thought Lapis was taking a bit too long to join her. With a disgruntled squeak, it shot a small jet of ink straight at her face. With a surprised yelp, Lapis falls back into the water.

"Oooh, you..." She tries to sound angry, but the grin on her face is quickly turning devious, and she jumps back up, shoving a wave of water right at her pokemon.

"You're gunna pay for that!!!"

Name:Mary Weather Hargreaves
Series:Earl Cain Saga (Godchild)
Timeline: Chapter 47 (Final) Godless 6 (End of series before epilogue showing her as being older.)
Canon Resource Links: http://thecainsaga.wikia.com/wiki/The_Cain_Saga

Personality: Mary Weather is a strong willed young lady. She doesn't let anything get in her way, except for Cain's instructions, but that is a lesson she had to learn the hard way. She is good at taking care of herself and being independent, but as a child she has some limitations. Her force of will gets her through the day, except when she is overpowered by someone older than herself. When she was trapped by a girl named Rebecca and her servant Bertha she was terrified and essentially helpless, but she was still strong-willed enough to try to tell Rebecca that she was wrong and why she was wrong. She still needed to be saved by her brother Cain, but her force of will was enough to throw Rebecca into a kind of crisis over what she was doing, even though it did not result in her stopping. Later, she used that same force of will to convert Mikaila to her side to work against Cain's father and the dark mechanisms he had set in place. Mikaila did not live for much longer after she decided to help Mary, but she was able to die with a peaceful mind thanks to Mary's words. Words cannot always save her, however.

Mary only learned the lesson of her own limitations and her own limited knowledge when Cain forbade her from going to the Crimone Gardens. She convinced her brother's best friend, Oscar, who was supposed to keep an eye on her while her brother was gone, to let her go to the gardens' opening celebration. While there bombs went off and took down the patio she had been standing on with Oscar. She hurt her leg and saw many people dying or dead from the bombing. Surviving that she realized that Cain only would tell her to not do something if it is for her own good. She's smart enough to realize that won't be everyone's motive, however, but will listen to them in the same way once they have earned her trust.

Mary is kind hearted as well, willing to put others before herself. She seeks to be the person to lend an ear when someone is in need. She likes to be the person that refreshes others from the world's challenges. She has a pure heart, and seeks to keep herself pure so that she can continue to shine with the goodness found on earth. She is easy to talk to and very open to other people and other ideas, while maintaining a strong conviction for her own opinions and morals. She is slow to judge people as well. She prefers to get to know a person before making any real opinion about them. Mary is the sort to think that everyone deserves a chance, or more than one. Because she believes in the good of other people she is able to bring more happiness to the world by helping people come to terms with what they may have done wrong by showing them the good that they have done as well.

She can see that light and positivity because she has seen some of the worst of humanity as well. Death and misfortune have followed her for most of her young life. Through all of it, however, she has kept close the goodness in every person she meets, remembering the person for their brilliance, not any darkness they might have. Even as people she cares about die, she keeps her head up and carries on, knowing that they would not want her to spend her life mourning, but instead spend it living. She cherishes her own life more for the friends that she has lost, and for having had the fortune to escape the East End. Because of the death of many of her friends Mary values each one more and more. She knows how fragile a life can be, and wants to be able to protect her friends from a terrible fate. As such, she has a tendency to always be there for her friends through thick and thin, showing them love and understanding.

Mary also has a fiery temper, though it has calmed down as she's matured. She can be quick to anger, though she doesn't yell much. Instead she's more likely to use curt and sharp language to take her opposition off guard. She typically only gets angry if someone pulls a prank- and that is a more light-hearted and playful anger- or when someone has done something against her morals. In general she has a feisty personality. She's not beyond some mischievous fun or confronting those she thinks has done wrong.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Mary isn't in the least bit physically strong, but what Mary lacks in physical strength she makes up in emotional strength. Not only does she have a strong will that can convince others of the good that she sees in them and in the world, but she is not easily shaken. She possesses a sense of self and a calm demeanour that means when she sees terrible things she can process and understand them more easily than most. She would still recognize these events as horrible, but unlike most children she has the strength to keep going during terrifying situations while still having a firm grasp on reason.

Her ability to reason is sharp, and she well knows the dangers there can be for children in the world, so she isn't the most trusting, at least when it comes to who she will listen to and take advice from. She is too trusting in the sense that she believes there is good in everyone, and will keep associating with potentially dangerous people if she sees a chance that she might be able to sway their thoughts and opinions to seeing the good in the world.

Mary can also be insecure at times. Because she is usually so strong and able to be there for all the people around her, sometimes she overburdens herself. She forgets that other people are there for her as well, and instead tries to keep it inside and stay strong. She will usually find someone to talk with before she can't take any more since she is smart enough to know that she needs to sometimes let her anxiety out. Mary is also more insecure when she feels alone. Not just when she's on her own for a time, but when she doesn't have anyone that she can trust around her. Cain gave her a reason to live by living himself, and Oscar and the family and her belief that Cain survived gave her reason to keep fighting when Cain went missing.

Starter: Eevee. Eevee is like Mary Weather; they are both capable of changing to whatever environment they are set in, but both also are more familiar with cities, having been born there and are both naturally inclined towards urban areas, even though they can adapt to wilds. (If this does not work, after much thought I believe a houndour would be an acceptable starter.)

Samples
First Person Sample: [A young girl with blond hair is on the screen, looking rather scared,] Is this working? Can someone tell me how to get home? I need to get back there now! [She takes a deep breath, raising her chin and looking more determined,] My family needs me right now. I don't know what kind of place this is, but I need to go back.
[There's a small cry from off screen,] Eevee!

[Mary picks the little creature up,] I don't know what kind of animal this is, how this device even works, or where I am. Would someone please explain? I truly need to get home.

Third Person Sample: The world of Pokèmon. It was something rather difficult to get her head around. There was that strange man just telling her a bit about the world, but it just didn't make sense. How did she get here? What happened? She even wondered if she fell ill and all of this was some fever dream. That, however, seemed impossible. There was no way she could have this cheerful of a fever dream. It still made little sense, and she just found she could not trust this place.

She examined her room suspiciously. It had things she had no clue about, like the computer and the game system. She thought it strange that someone would put her in a room like this. Her first thought is that she's been kidnapped. But the stairs went straight down to the first floor. That didn't seem like a very good layout if they wanted to keep her from escaping.

She knew she wouldn't get any more answers up here, so she carefully makes her way down the stairs. She's caught off guard when this strange woman starts treating her like a daughter. This, above all else, gave Mary an unsettling feeling. She tried asking this woman questions, but only got the same information out of her every time, no matter what she asked. By now there's a deep seed of fear in her gut. She makes her way to the door and rushes out when her 'mom' does nothing to stop her.

Mary wanders the town asking questions until she finally finds a professor. She keeps trying to get more information out of him as she tries to wrap her mind around the situation. It just didn't make sense. Where could this place be? What was wrong with the people here. Had her father somehow survived and set this up? But why? Maybe someone in her family poisoned her and she was dreaming, or dead, though this is not the kind of afterlife she supposed there would be. All the while she is pushed on by a pressing need to get back home. She had to lead the family or it would fall into squabbles and chaos.

After trying to question the man more on what was happening and getting no further answers she stops to try to assess the situation more. The world is strange and unfamiliar and the adults around her seemed no help at all. She begins to cry softly at the edge of town, knowing it was better to cry a little bit than to go into a full panic. She could figure this out. She had to.

She sits on some grass to look through the backpack and see what supplies she had to work with. That is when she finds her starter's pokèball. She presses the button, and a red ray leaps out and turns into a small fox-like creature that looks up to her and exclaims “Eevee!”

Mary jumps as the light shoots out and the creature appears, but when the animal just keeps looking at her she puts out her hand out for the creature to smell. The eevee inches forward to sniff her hand before he exclaims “Vee!” Mary gently pets his head and sniffles, “What are you?” As if in response the eevee call out, “Eevee,” again. Mary laughs a bit, feeling a bit better with this little companion. She didn't feel quite so scared or alone.

“I should call you something,” Mary says, petting the pokèmon's head. “Cassius?”

“Vee!”

“Cassius it is then! Let's see if we can find anyone to talk to that is a bit more helpful!”

Character

Name: Eric Surt

Series: K

Timeline: After first chapter in K Countdown manga

Canon Resource Links: http://k-project.wikia.com/wiki/Eric_S%C5%8Dlt

Personality:
At first glance Eric is rude, blunt, not very talkative, strange, regular older teenager. And second glance would be the same. And third…
He really is like that. To people he’s not used to…and even still to those he’s known for a while.

But, he’s also a lot more.

The first time he joined Homra, he was nothing but rude and blunt, using his dual language skills to speak nothing but English to others, yet still conveying the meaning behind his words to make them understand that he thought they were idiots. Only after a gentle prod, or even a stern talking to gets him to act at least a bit more politely. Because of the way he had lived before, he didn’t need manners, or any kind of manners a human normally had. He believed himself a dog and acted the part that he was trained to be. It was his ‘whole world’ before he found Homra.

He is also a very quiet person. Generally seen just sitting and not moving from a spot for hours at a time, or following someone else as they do an errand, Eric is very awkward in actual social situations. Having a hard time giving his opinions (unless to make fun of something or someone) or talking about himself, he is either soft spoken and shy or snaps at people; there is rarely an in-between. He needs to be kept an eye on him at times, because he rarely eats, either forgetting or refusing to do so, because he feels that he hasn’t done anything to deserve it.

Eric does not think very highly of himself. Because of the environment he had lived in for quite some time, he refers to himself as a dog, something that obeys orders from his master and receives food as a reward. If his use were to dry up, he would be killed, so he tried to remain useful in order to live. Even though he wasn’t treated nicely by his former group, he remained because of his loyalty, since he was immediately taken after his parents died. He had never even thought, or believed that he deserved, to ask for help, believing he was nothing more than a lowlife dog. Now that he is a part of Homra, Eric sticks with them; Homra is his new home. His loyalty to them showed even earlier on, when he was shocked and worried over accidentally hurting Fujishima, whom had saved his life and helped him while he stayed at the bar. He had been trying to kill Totsuka at the time, as he had been ordered to. He had to kill Totsuka or Mikoto, or die trying. Even though he had tried to follow through with it, he wasn’t thinking of killing anyone, it was mainly just for survival.

Eric can be shy or embarrassed with how little he knows. Though he does wish to learn, he missed things along the way. During a time when they went to the beach, Eric stared at the ocean with a tube around him until Shouhei asked if he could swim, and, much to Eric’s disgruntled attitude, began teaching him.
Having had a portion of his childhood taken away and going through what he had, Eric still has a childlike, almost innocent side of him. He got so excited (and sparkly!) shopping for a present for Anna, and laughed and happily celebrated Yata’s birthday. Even for being sad, during Totsuka’s funeral, he was the only one who really openly cried for the loss of a friend, showing just how much he’s grown to be able to do so. He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to do some simple things that people take for granted on a daily basis

Now, after being almost 2 and a half year in Homra, Eric…is still kind of the same. He’s still quiet, has some awkwardness, has his rudeness, and still his blunt way of speaking. But he’s relaxed now, he can voice his opinions even if they’re quiet, he doesn’t lash out and the social awkwardness has subsidised. It’s still all there, even with the people that have helped him through it all, but he’s grown to be not a skittish abused dog, not even a well-trained dog, but a human being.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:
- Fighter: Eric can use a knife that he had acquired from his previous gang as well as the flame red power he had received from Homra to fight in any battle he feels fit to use.
- Survivor: Eric, having gone through an abusive and if not almost deadly environment for a few years, knows how to survive on his own and to do what he can. He can live through a lot without being fazed.
- Bilingual, able to speak both Japanese and English
- Skill with computers: Considering he was using his phone to find any information on Totsuka’s killer, Eric has learned quite a bit about computers so he has some skill in using them.

Weaknesses:
- Socially awkward: Even though he’s improved immensely, Eric still hasn’t really interacted with anyone outside of Homra. He still will be suspicious of new people and will take a while to warm up to others.
- Taking care of oneself what is that: Eric can still forget to eat or sleep properly or well, do a lot of things that people find normal and routine. Occasional reminders from friends will help, but being alone still gets a few bumps alone the way.
- Always learning: Being with Homra 2 and a half years means Eric learned a lot. Manners, swimming, and probably at least half of the hobbies that Totsuka decided to try out. But that’s still not a lot of time to learn a lot more things. There are a lot of new experiences still waiting for him that he will tackle with curiousity and eagerness to learn.

First Person Sample:

Hey.

[ Eric’s face appears and he tugs a bit on his hair. ]

I’m looking for people.

[ Small shuffling about until oh dear he’s moving his shirt down on his shoulder and removed his sweater. A red tattoo was on his right shoulder that he was trying to get a good angle on. ]

They have this on them somewhere. They’re from Homra. In Shizume City, Tokyo Japan.

[ He puts his shirt back to normal and it goes back to his face. He looked a little sad as he tried to hide his eyes in his bangs. ]

If anyone is from there, or have seen them…It’d be nice to know. T-thanks.

Third Person Sample:

As Eric finished up the last of his ‘mother’s’ trail mix, he had to wonder what he had gotten into.

Sure he was used to sleeping anywhere and everywhere but he was not used to mass amounts of forests and camping. He hoped they would reach the next city soon, he didn’t like being in new surroundings. More change, just great.

He looked to his new found Pokemon and watched as it ate some of the trail mix he had given it. It was like someone combined a tiger and a dog and a lion for extra fluffiness. It really was a strange place he got dragged to. Some of these things looked like real animal but were bigger, stranger looking.

He felt like Fujishima would love this place. He loved all animals after all.
He sighed, no use worrying about it. Fujishima wasn’t here, Kusanagi wasn’t here. No one was here, he had to fend for himself. He’ll figure it out, somehow.

He stood up, finished with the trail mix. Batting off all the wood chips and dirt and whatever else decided to stick to him. A bird…wait Pokemon decided
to call and make a ruckus. Eric decided he did not like camping.

“Are you ready?” He asked his companion.

Growlithe barked happily, standing up and wagging his tail, trail mix all but gone.

Eric gave out a small, soft chuckle before standing up. “Alright, Cherrygrove City is where we need to go. Then we can figure out what to do…”

Another bark of agreement. At least the company wasn’t so bad. Better than having Bandou around yelling and shouting everywhere. Or Yata with his constant complaining.

He shook his head. Homra wasn’t here and he wasn’t in a city. Everything was new but he would get by. He used to call himself a dog, right? He never thought he would stop calling himself that, so maybe he’ll actually like this
camping and adventuring.

“Let’s go.” He looked down to his Pokemon who wagged his tail and gave a small smile in return.

Definitely maybe this wouldn’t be so bad.

Character
Name: Sansa Stark
Series: A Song of Ice and Fire
Timeline: After she learns of the Red Wedding.
Canon Resource Links: Here!

Personality: Sansa Stark remains in a perpetual state of fear and unhappiness. She is relieved that Joffrey has lost interest in marrying her - Margaery can act as a barrier between him and her, at least - but she has no idea what to expect when it comes to Tyrion Lannister. Will he a good husband? Will he torture her like Joffrey? Will he force her in the bedroom? She doesn't have any answers - only silent fears that make it difficult for her to ever speak her mind.

However, away from the Lannisters and the nightmares they spin, Sansa is a kind-hearted, oftentimes naive young woman. She can be surprisingly friendly and warm in the right circumstances and there are remnants of the proud, fiery girl who left Winterfell so long ago. She holds herself with pride as a Stark - as a wolf of the North - and she has promised herself that, no matter what, she will remember her family; her roots.

Manners and etiquette mean a great deal to her - even after witnessing atrocities - and it is rare that she lets herself look messy or distressed. Of course there are circumstances where she cannot help her reaction, but she does try to, outwardly, keep her calm. If her mask slips, she knows Joffrey or Cersei will descend on her and exploit her weakness in some shape or form.

After learning the truth about Robb, her mother and the Red Wedding, her hope to be reunited and saved by her remaining family dies. She feels terribly alone and, for a time, she wonders why she is alive. What is her purpose in the world? Somehow she finds an answer - even if she can't vocalize it - and a new strength to withstand Lannister blows. Tyrion aids her where he can - and where she lets him - but ultimately, Sansa hardens herself. There is no one she can trust and nowhere she can run. She must find her place amongst the lions or die trying.

In a better environment - one where she can be herself - the Sansa Stark of Winterfell will reemerge; she will begin to heal. The wounds she was dealt - the horrors she witnessed - will become points of strength for her. Like other members of her family, Sansa will learn to endure, which is a good trait for a trainer. I believe she will acquire a sense of pride from her Pokemon and finally feel free and, most of all, safe.

For a time, she will forget the world she left behind. Her propensity for fleeing from the truth or ignoring it hasn't changed. She longs for a happier world - one where violence and death are not a daily happening. Perhaps she will find it or perhaps she will be forced to face the nightmare of King's Landing from a more distant perspective. Either way, she is destined to be a complex woman with burdens that many do not carry.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

✧ Her etiquette/manners are impeccable.

✧ She can hold her own in stressful situations (thank you, Lannisters).

✧ There are times she can be quite cunning. (If she lays low and pretends to be a non-threat, maybe they will let her live?)

✧ She knows how to run a household (giving the servants orders etc.).

✧ She is talented at embroidery.

✧ She can read and write.

✧ Her voice is quite good (for songs).

Weaknesses:

✧ She is prone to anxiety, nervousness and outright panicking (PTSD, yes).

✧ She is also prone to depression (especially when she thinks about her family or King's Landing).

✧ She is physically weak.

✧ Her naivety knows no bounds at times (though she can use it to keep herself safe).

Samples
First Person Sample: What have you made me do? (Sansa could see her face in the PokéGear and it frightened her that it could mimic her so well.) If this is supposed to provide me with answers, I'm afraid I do not know how to use it.

(She frowns at her Swablu, sighing when the Pokémon points at the screen with its wing.)

Very well. (What choice does she have?) I assume I am speaking to someone and not just myself? I would like to know who this room belongs to and how I might acquire a conveyance back to the Tower of the Hand.

(All else can wait. She doesn't want to reveal too many details.)

This room does not resemble any I have seen in King's Landing, yet, surely, I haven't left the city?

(Her heart leaps at the possibility. Could she get away? Would they let her get away?)

Perhaps this bird belongs to the Summer Isles. I admit I have not seen one like it in the North or South.

(She speaks to herself, but there is an inquiry behind those words too.)

I do not know why it is so fond of me.

Third Person Sample: She awoke in a bed that was not her own. At first she feared that she had, through some underhanded means, been forced to sleep with her husband. He had promised he wouldn't, but the word of a Lannister could hardly be trusted as full-proof. Slowly - carefully - she raised herself onto her elbows and readied herself to see Tyrion beside her.

But she was alone. Furthermore, the bed was much smaller than Tyrion's bed or her own. Brushing her auburn hair back, she sat up and frowned. Why was she fully clothed? Of course the alternative was unsettling - she was glad to be clothed in that case - yet she never went to bed in this state.

Someone must have... The question was: why?

A rush of air brushed against her cheek and she blinked Tully blue eyes curiously. The strangest looking blue bird - with clouds for wings? - was swirling around her head. She raised her hand, encouraging the creature to light upon it.

"Can you hear me? Are you awake? Please don't be sick!"

Sansa stared in wonder, startled by the enthusiastic chirping. Biting the inside of her cheek, she turned and rested her feet on the floor. Her mind was whirling and the excitable bird wasn't helping.

What if this was a trick; a way for her to let down her guard and -? Or worse yet, what if someone had drugged her and set her up for a scandal?

Fear was a close companion and she felt it now, yet it lacked the intensity it once held. If the Lannisters found her in a scandal, they would either publicly embarrass her with a trial and then behead her or skip the trial and behead her. Either way, it ended with her death.

Maybe that wouldn't be so bad?

The bird brushed against her cheek again, insistent, pointing out a strange object. Cautiously, she touched it and was startled when it came to life. Her strange companion then held out a card for her to...use? Swipe? Curious, she copied the creature's movements and blinked when the screen read "connected".

(Continued in the First Person Sample!)
stonebird: (❅ I felt a funeral in my brain)

Hope you don't mind! I added to the Strengths/Weaknesses:

[personal profile] stonebird 2015-05-27 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

✧ Her etiquette/manners are impeccable. She learned them from her mother, Catelyn Stark, as well as her Septa (Mordane). Sansa takes particular pride in being well-mannered, clean and polite (though that has become more of a tool for survival since her father was beheaded).

✧ She can hold her own in stressful situations (thank you, Lannisters). Being engaged to Joffrey has taught her to control her fear and, perhaps, even use it to her advantage. There are moments when she can let her true feelings emerge (such as when she taunts Joffrey about not being in the Vanguard before the Battle on Blackwater), but she knows to hold her tongue in most situations and pretend to be meek and/or simple-minded so Joffrey and his mother, Cersei, lose interest in tormenting her.

✧ There are times she can be quite cunning. (If she lays low and pretends to be a non-threat, maybe they will let her live?) As I stated above, she can use dangerous situations to her advantage at times in order to vent and/or keep herself alive. She is also always on the look out for a way to escape her prison (two opportunities present themselves in the form of Dontos and the Hound and she chooses the one that seems the safest).

✧ She knows how to run a household (giving the servants orders etc.). Another talent she learned from Catelyn Stark. If she had married Joffrey and become Queen, this would have been a very useful talent in handling court staff/servants. However it is equally useful for a noble lady when it comes to her lord's staff/servants.

✧ She is talented at embroidery. Sansa possesses a particular knack for sewing little works of art.

✧ She can read and write, which might not seem like an extraordinary talent in this day and time, but in a medieval era/world, reading and writing are talents reserved for the nobility and the clergy.

✧ Her voice is quite good (for songs).

Weaknesses:

✧ She is prone to anxiety, nervousness and outright panicking (PTSD, yes). After suffering as Joffrey's play-thing and witnessing the death of her father, Sansa is never far from breaking down. Her nights are usually filled with nightmares (such as the one she had after the riot) and she spends her days worrying about what might happen next. (However she has ceased to fear death as much as she once did.)

✧ She is also prone to depression (especially when she thinks about her family or King's Landing). As stated above, this is another consequence of everything she has seen/endured.

✧ She is physically weak. Sansa is a true lady through and through. She was never taught to fight or even how to defend herself. She would find it deplorable to hold a weapon (though not as deplorable as she once found the idea) and she can easily be overcome in a conflict.

✧ Her naivety knows no bounds at times (though she can use it to keep herself safe). The naivety of her youth has, more or less, passed. Yet she still acts like she did once upon a time to keep herself safe in the eyes of those who only mean ill for her. She will compliment Joffrey and call him "her one true love" despite the fact that she hates no one more than him.

Character
Name: Henry
Series: Fire Emblem Awakening
Timeline: End of Chapter 25, just before entering battle with the Fell Dragon
Canon Resource Links: “Special delivery!”

Note: Henry’s backstory is never properly told from beginning to end, only pieced together from snippets of info he drops in conversation. It also differs significantly between the English and Japanese versions of the game. And, what’s worse, the other characters frequently question whether or not Henry is even telling the truth about himself and his past, with absolutely no concrete answer. For that reason, Henry is subject to a lot of alternate character interpretation, and the bare-bones facts presented on the wiki are… well, sub-par.

So here’s the backstory I operate under.

Ever since he was born, Henry has had the ability to speak to all lifeforms, including animals and plants. When he was younger, he spent most of his time playing in the forest outside his village, because quite frankly, human society had nothing for him — his parents could sense his massive power and unstable disposition, and they hated him for it. The animals and plants of the forest didn’t seem to hate him, though; in fact, they quite liked him. One female wolf, in particular, took him in as a sort of adopted son. She is the person Henry refers to as his “mother”. They grew very close for several years, to the point where Henry would disappear for weeks or months at a time to go live with Wolfmom (his parents were just happy to have him ‘out with the beasts where he belongs’). One day while Henry was in the village, however, Wolfmom walked into town looking for him. Immediately, a number of terrified and angry villagers descended upon her, intent on killing the ‘monster’.

Henry got there too late, naturally. Wolfmom was dead.

Shortly afterward, he slaughtered every single member of that mob, using a blaze of magical power that he honestly didn’t even know he had.

That was the last straw for Henry’s parents. Perhaps justifiably, they decided to deal with the issue once and for all: they shipped him off to Plegian military school, to train his magic and hopefully get his bloodlust beaten out of him. Conveniently, he was stuck there year-round, meaning that the village would never have that walking disaster roaming its streets again.

During his time in military school, Henry did quite well, academically. Even though his natural aptitude for magic was high, he still had to put in countless hours of studying and training in order to become even remotely competent at magic – and he did. He took to it fantastically. Unfortunately, he didn’t do nearly as well behaviourally. After the, ahem, incident back at home, Henry discovered that magically beating the tar out of people felt really damn good. If some limbs got ripped off? Even better. If the victim died? Awesome! As far as Henry was concerned, he was here to study, but he was also here to enjoy himself. And so, after the mysterious deaths of a number of students and faculty, the school disciplinarians engaged Henry in a long and painful battle of stamina and wits.

Henry played some ‘pranks’, the sort which usually involved people getting horribly injured, if not killed. The disciplinary committee responded by subjecting Henry to physical punishments for his actions. Undeterred, Henry did it again, getting a bit cleverer with his tactics; the committee subsequently got a bit more forceful with its conditioning. The cycle continued, back and forth, throughout at least five years of schooling. During this time, Henry was physically tortured in almost every way imaginable – and yet, somehow, his spirit never broke and his body never gave out. Eventually, Henry began smiling at them, a team of full-grown mages who were trying and failing to win against a schoolboy – even when the pain was almost too much to bear, he just kept smiling.

Eventually, his training was complete and Henry was sent into the ranks of the Plegian army. He wasn’t crippled physically, and somehow he’d found a way to cope mentally and emotionally with the experience – but he wasn’t unmarred. Basically every nerve ending in his entire body had stopped functioning. (More on that soon!) Nonetheless, his magical power and range of movement was unhindered, and his superiors soon found that it would be unwise to just kill him and get it over with. As soon as he set foot on a battlefield, Henry was practically a machine, slaughtering enemy soldiers left and right with terrifying precision and brutality – while laughing and cheering like he was having the time of his life. Even if he was a loose cannon, he was simply too valuable as a soldier to throw away. Still, outside of battle, he made sure to keep a healthy distance between himself and the other soldiers – no one actually wanted to go up and talk to him, anyway. So while Henry was busy chatting with birds and making up puns all day, rumors started flying about “A silver-haired youth with a knowledge of curses and an extraordinary gift for magic. A man guarded by fierce crows, so that very few had seen the true extent of his powers”… (Those quotes were taken verbatim from Tharja, another Plegian soldier.)

And that’s where he’s at when he runs into Chrom. From here on in it’s fairly well-documented.

Personality: Henry is a bit like a puppy. An excitable, eager, more-than-slightly demented puppy.

From a distance, and perhaps for the first minute or so of interaction, he just comes across as a childish but bubbly guy. He is always smiling and trying to lighten the mood; his preferred means of dealing with serious conversations is completely derailing them with bad puns and a fake smile.

In direct contrast to his upbeat attitude, Henry has some interests that make others extremely uncomfortable. He genuinely loves war and killing; he loves dismemberment, incineration, and other forms of physical torture. He loves inventing and casting curses that can lead to fates worse than death. Why? He just does. But possibly even worse than this is the fact that Henry loves sharing his enthusiasm with everyone else, whether they want to hear it or not. Mostly, the morbidity is just a joke to him, because he physically cannot feel pain and likes to see other people appalled and confused — but in addition, it was a very tried-and-true tactic to make sure people didn’t talk to him when he was younger, because quite frankly he didn’t want anyone to get too close.

Though he doesn’t like to talk about it, the issue of parental abandonment has a strong influence on his personality. Not only does he habitually push people away emotionally, but he has a powerful desire to be viewed as worthy in the eyes of people he actually cares about (for example, the Ylissean army’s highly accomplished tactician). To these people his enthusiasm seems completely sincere, in contrast to the questionable honesty he displays around others of his rank. Henry takes initiative and starts things on his own, but if a superior he respects tells him to stop, he will drop it immediately and with minor complaining. However, as he told the Ylissean tactician once, he will not listen to what he sees as ridiculous orders: “Heck, I always obey orders! Well, except for stupid ones like "don't fight the enemy". If someone tried to tell me that, I'd cut 'em in half and feed them to the crows!”

Somewhere during his time in magic school and the Plegian army, Henry started to develop a powerful apathy that bordered on the sociopathic. He has hardly any regard for taking lives, and likes to justify it in the context of the war — “I’ve already killed countless people, what’s a few more?” For the few times that he actually did get worried or upset about anything, he began drawing on his usually-cheerful attitude to put on a fake smile, so that other people would not approach him. Oftentimes, it’s impossible to tell what he’s thinking, and whether the smile he’s wearing is sincere or not. Henry always thought he preferred to keep people at arm’s length (because in the end they would do something horrible like disown him or kill his lupine BFF/mother figure), but this slowly began to change as he spent more time in the Ylissean army. Now, he’s more open to making friends… but getting him to show any true feeling to them is still as hard as pulling teeth.

His fascination with murder and bloodshed mostly boils down to an extended power trip. As he discovered when he was a young boy who magically killed twelve full-grown men with no training whatsoever, Henry lives for the satisfaction of feeling powerful and important — and not to mention the adrenaline rush. Henry is always eager to override his doubts with fun sensations because he really doesn’t want to deal with them; this is the same reason he makes jokes in the middle of important conversations, because they amuse him, and if he’s amused then he won’t be thinking about the horrible mess of a life he’s made for himself.

When he was younger, he played up his own questionable sanity to get others to notice him — whether it was positive or negative attention didn’t matter — and now that he’s grown, he can no longer remember which of his highly disturbing mannerisms are real, and which are just acts that he forgot to take out. He doesn’t know if he always was cheerful by nature or if he started acting that way to put people off, and that fact scares him immensely. Even though coming to terms with his emotional problems is something Henry needs to do in order to truly grow up, he would much rather ignore it like an irresponsible child and continue walking around killing passerby for fun.

When people ask him if he’s insane (which they very often do), Henry’s response is a shrug and an “I don’t know, maybe!” It doesn’t seem to bother him that much, but needless to say, it does.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Try to cover the good points of what they can do, their life skills (not necessarily powers, but things they're just good at). Go into their biggest fears and what they just can’t do.

+ Dedication/strong memory. Although he had a lot of raw magical power, Henry was still required to put in endless hours of training and study in order to become even remotely competent with magic. He has also developed a good memory for facts, figures, and steps in a procedure.
+ SCIENCE! Although dark magic is defined as ‘a type of magic that brings dreams to life’, it bears resemblances to several different practices, including alchemy. He seems to have an understanding of scientific study (or at least how to dissect and analyze a zombie arm), even though it’s way too much trouble for him to bother with most of the time.
+ Nerve damage and general high tolerance for pain. Though it may seem odd at first that this is a “strength,” Henry was basically pummeled constantly during his school years as punishment for bad behavior and wanton torture of students and faculty. Somehow, he managed to survive. Now he has developed a very high threshold for pain, and his nerves have been wrecked to the point that he wouldn’t notice a giant gash through his chest until he looked down and saw the blood.
+ Follows orders. Due to both a military upbringing and a strong need for validation, Henry will follow any orders he is given to the letter (barring certain circumstances, outlined below). He has stated himself that he prefers not to get involved in the politics or morality of war; the actual fighting, to him, is much more fun, and he will listen to pretty much anyone who gives him orders or asks him a favor.
+ Animalspeak. Henry can canonically speak with animals, and he can speak with Pokémon as well. He loves animals and generally treats them much better than he would humans.

— Hates harming animals. Related to the above, Henry is all about mass murder of human beings, but he dislikes causing unnecessary harm or strife to animals and Pokémon. As such, if a Rocket commander gives him a mission that involves abusing Pokémon, he will flat-out refuse and do something else instead. He will not object to stealing Pokémon from Trainers, however.
— Technologically inept. Since he comes from Medieval Fantasy Europe, Henry will have an incredibly hard time understanding modern technology of any kind.
— Deceptive. Henry is a liar, plain and simple, especially when it comes to personal topics. He will happily make up complete lies for any number of reasons: to impress or unsettle others, to divert attention from his personal life, to weasel out of an uncomfortable situation, etc. However, he doesn’t often think far enough ahead to manipulate people long-term. Of particular note: Henry’s favourite victim of deception is himself, though he’s not always aware of it and will refuse to talk about it if he is. He has convinced himself to believe many aspects of his personality that aren’t really true.
— Fee-fees. As was previously mentioned, Henry has absolutely no desire to confront his negative feelings, mostly out of fear of what he’ll find there. It’s rather like the knowledge of having a monster in his basement; he knows it’s there, he knows it’s getting worse by not confronting it, but he’s too scared to ever open the door. So he continues walking by said closet every day and pretending it’s not there, ignoring the fact that the only thing standing between him and the monster is a flimsy piece of wood.

Oh, hey! It did a thing!

[Two faces pop up on the screen. One is a human boy of unclear age, though he can’t be much older than eighteen; the other is a rather exasperated-looking Vulpix. The latter reaches a paw out, puts it on the screen, and begins chittering to the human… who actually seems to understand.]

When the red light is on, it’s recording… okay, got it.

[The Vulpix squeaks again.]

“Say something”? Alright… [The boy, previously lying on his stomach, goes into a sitting position and picks up the Pokégear. One can see that he appears to be wearing peculiar purple-and-tan robes with really creepy eye designs on the collar.] Well, people in there, my name’s Henry and I’m from the country of Plegia! My interests include dark magic, nature walks, explosions, murders, explosions with murders— what?

[Henry looks down. The Vulpix can be heard screeching angrily, probably telling him to stop before he gets himself turned in to the police on day one. There is a short scuffle for control of the PokéGear; flashes of amber fur and claws can be seen, and eventually the feed cuts out.]

Third Person Sample: The Epic Saga of Henry’s Johto Conquest began in a rather unimpressive fashion: he came to on an extremely uncomfortable bed (intriguing since he had fallen asleep while rolled up in a blanket on the ground), in a room too dark and too metal to be the tent where he’d rested his head for the night. Blinking blearily, the white-haired boy lay there for a while, waiting for something to come back to him; there would be a memory springing into his head any second now of why he was here.

And yet, no matter how long he waited, no memory came.

Welp — nothing to be done about it but investigate himself. Henry pushed himself into a sitting position on the cot; a normal person would be groaning in pain from the strain of it, but all Henry noticed was that they were shakier than usual — and that was a real accomplishment. Finally, he was able to let his spine more or less support him, and his arms flopped back into their useless positions on the bed. In the meantime, however, Henry took the opportunity to look around. It seemed like the entire room was made of some kind of metal, which surprised him; how in the world would someone be able to construct a building like this?

Fortunately, however, something in the room made sense, a wooden table. The items on top of it… not so much. Henry reached out to grab them. One was a box of some kind that seemed to have a hinge on it — it felt smooth like metal, but the colour was red, as if it had been dipped in blood. …Was it blood? Experimentally, Henry licked it, but after he came to no conclusion other than it tasted horrible, he tossed it unceremoniously aside. The second item was a bit more interesting; it was also made of metal, but it was a red-and-white sphere. There was a circle in the center that stuck out, almost like a button, so naturally Henry had to push it.

Immediately, blinding light filled his vision, and Henry had the distinct impression that he had messed something up. Oh gods, was that thing cursed? Frantically, he tried to scramble around for some magical power to dispel whatever was coming at him, but found none. The reservoir was empty. As if this wasn’t worrying enough, he felt a new weight on his chest, and discovered a small animal had somehow appeared on his lap. Even though the exact species was unfamiliar, it was warm and fuzzy and looked more or less like a fox, so he was immediately relieved to have it.

“Hi,” he said to the creature gently, reaching out to stroke its forehead — but the fox swatted his hand away.

“What do you think you’re doing?” it cried.

The mage paused, but then broke into a smile. “Well, I thought I was saying hello! You don’t like the head, huh?”

The fox’s jaw fell slightly open, and it stared at him in shock for a moment before finding the words to speak. “Wait — you know what I’m saying?”

“Sure I do! Always have.” He was used to this; most animals found it hard to believe that a human could communicate with them, so it was a song and dance he’d gone through many times before.

Quietly, the fox sat down on his lap and considered this. “…I saw you staring at the Pokédex earlier. Do you know what it is?”

“Oh — you mean the metal thing! Nope, not at all.”

The fox got to its feet and jumped over Henry’s legs to the Pokédex in question. “Well then, boy,” it said. “It seems you have a lot to learn.”

Rose Quartz | Steven Universe | Reserved | 2/2

[personal profile] spacerockmom 2015-06-06 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Rose Quartz is not the kind of person one would imagine as the leader of a vastly superior alien race. While she has a sort of dignity and grace to her, she also has something that we don’t commonly see in the trope: love.

Rose Quartz is a gem - a semi non-organic alien race that previously had tried to conquer earth and it’s resources. There are plenty of theories as to why Rose Quartz derailed from these ideals, but we’re going to stick to facts for now. And the facts are that Rose Quartz was powerful enough to convince people to follow her, and instill a sense of dedication and admirations amongst friends and foe alike. Through the eyes of others, we’ve heard plenty about Rose as a Leader. In ‘The Return’, Jasper claims to have respected her tactics. The Crystal Gems themselves - Rose’s associated following - have spoken about her strength, her marvelous abilities, her courage, and her love for everything.

Part of Rose’s choosing to stay on Earth comes from the ability to see beauty in everything. Rose didn’t segregate humanity from deserving any less than anyone else. It was seen as strange by other, because sometimes it seemed ill-placed. She was one of the only Gems to consider taming deformed gems - this trait was only shared later by Steven. The both of them saw something in these monsters, and tried to fix it. This wasn’t the only strange thing that Rose put her love and devotion into - she also kept a garden of deadly moss, which she guided up the hill every year so it could blossom. Even stranger to most gems, she fell utterly in love with the human race, her admiration of it’s beauty personifying in her relationship with Steven’s Dad, Greg Universe.

Rose and Greg have a very healthy and loving relationship - Greg is implied to still be very dedicated to her, even after she’s passed. They fell in love very young, at least by Greg’s standards. We can’t entirely sure of Rose’s age, as age is an illusion with Gems, and she was at least a few centuries. At the very least, though, if her appearance on their meeting matched up at all with her physical age, she must have been young by Gem standards. She and Greg do seem to have a fairly adorable case of puppy love. While Rose stood by a hesitance, due to awareness of her longer lifespan from him, she was still smitten in the same way young couples can be. She was also a goofy sort of person, regarding Greg like an adorable kind of spectacle, and getting giddy and literal with some of the things he said, particularly amused at his gimmick of space. In questioning of some of his lyrics as well, her only response is to be sympathetic, wondering why he’d ever want to leave Earth - ‘how would you get back? This is your home!’.

Despite her silliness and loving nature, Rose is acknowledged to be particularly brave, and powerful. A lot of very strong weapons have had an association with her, including the Light Cannons, and the armoury. Rose also single-handedly led the War against invading Gems, to protect mankind. Though she certainly trusted her friends to fight alongside her, she also kept secrets from them as needed, as mentioned by Pearl. It’s likely she had a much larger, individual hand in all that was involved. Along with Jasper’s admirations, considering the facts presented to us about regeneration, there’s an implication as well that Rose Quarts has never regenerated. She’s been strong enough to survive centuries without changing her physical form.

Rose is a well-balanced character, who manages to be strong, but also caring. Her immense love for everything is the reason Steven exists - as well as some reasoning beyond anything she’s professed. She saw some importance in giving up her physical form, despite an impending future war - and she had a great excitement, seeing an all-important reason that he be what he is - human.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ - Able to see the beauty in everything - Rose Quartz sees beauty in all living things, deadly, ugly and beautiful. It doesn’t matter to her. She would frequently tame bad gems and try to reform them. As well as bring a deadly moss to bloom and care for it.

+ Positivity - Rose not only sees the beauty in everything but she is sincere and doesn’t resort to negative ideals. She believes in others and brings out the best in those around her. She certainly is honored and respected.

+ Leadership - Rose was a leader and led the gems into battle. She persuaded the crystal gems and others to stand beside her and go against their own kind in order to protect earth and humankind. Even though they knew they could never go home she led them triumphantly into battle and to victory.

+ Resilient - Rose has managed through centuries to never regenerate and stand strong, a formidable opponent.

+ Kindness - Rose is kind hearted and filled with love. She is compassionate and goofy. She loves all living things, was willing to create life and sacrifice her own psychical form for another.

- Clandestine - While Rose is very kind on the outside and puts on a smile around others. She is not without her secrets. Pearl has stated that Rose kept many secrets and trusted them with her, but it is also implied that even Pearl was not told all that Rose knew and Rose kept her secrets for the benefit of others.

-/+ Goofball - Rose is a goof. She finds the gimmick of space from a rockstar admirable and she takes song lyrics literally. To get to the weapons in her armory you much poke yourself and make silly faces. Of course this makes her a fun spirit and a enjoyable person to be around.

(Rose is lacking in negative traits. Not much is known about her negatively.)

[The feed come into view and a rather giant woman, 8 feet tall at least, and with long, long curly cotton candy hair. Her eyes are bright and smile warm. She laughs happily and whole.]

Oh my...this is so much fun! I’ve used a device like these before...but I never thought I would get to use one of them again after Steven was born!

[She positions the screen as steadily as she can.]

There we go much better! This is my new friend I’ve found and taken a warm liking to and I’m sure they like me too. [She moves the camera to focus on an Audino that shyly waves at the feed. Rose laughs.]

Shhh, they’re a little shy. I’d never thought I’d be on earth again, well I think it’s earth. It looks like earth, there are still humans around, but I don’t remember these wonderful creatures. If anyone is listening, please tell me more about this place?

Third Person Sample: She found it odd that she had a mother suddenly. She herself was a mother but she never thought she would find herself in a house with a maternal figure and such a figure wishing her a goodbye on her journey. Apparently the guide book she had buried herself in said that she was a breeder and the equipment she found in the holding bag confirmed it. For the moment she wasn’t quite sure what that meant but if it allowed her to be around these ‘pokemon’ then of course she had no protests.

However the best news she had attained was that she was the most beautiful and wonderful creature in the world, a human. She had took pride in being a gem but to be a human opened up a whole new world that she was curious to be apart of. She could connect with Greg, if she ever saw him again and Steven…. Steven! She was on earth, some part of earth anyway which meant there was a possibility she could see her son! Though...how she could exist at the same time as him...no that wasn’t possible. She knew this and accepted it. She did not know what that meant but it was not something she wished to think on in this moment.

She picked up her bag and placed it across her shoulder. She could not perform magic and that was okay with her. She welcomed the change and decided that with her new found pokemon companion would set out on what ever journey this was. It was going to be fun! Meeting new people, exploring, and making friends with adorable pokemon!

Rose turned and gently placed a hand on the pokemon she had found herself in the presence of, “Hello there. I’m sure we are going to be the best of friends. Do you think you could tell me where I am?” There was a pause. “No?” She frowns but gently pets the creature's head, “It’s okay you can tell me when you want to. Let’s take this journey together!”

Character

Name: Madoka Kaname
Series: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Timeline: Toward the end of Episode 4 (“Miracles and Magic Are Real”), where she is pulled into Elly’s labyrinth.
Canon Resource Links: Anime Wiki Page, 100-question magazine survey completed by Madoka herself, MyAnimeList Page, Fan Wikia Page

Personality: Madoka Kaname, at her core, is a kind, caring individual who would sooner care for others than herself- as shown in the wish she finally decided to make in order to become a magical girl. She comes from a modestly wealthy, but hardworking family, and Madoka herself is just that- modest to a fault and diligent in any work she sets herself to completing, i.e. school. She studies every night for hours (after spending some time with her close friends, Sayaka Miki and Hitomi Shizuki, of course)… Though doodles in her school notebook during (at least) English class, denoting her absentmindedness. She can be said to be less practically inclined before becoming a magical girl, even, as these drawings were of herself, Mami, Homura and Sayaka in what she refers to as their “costumes”. By contrast, Sayaka thought more on the lines of self-defense, and when meeting up with Mami for their Witch hunt, brought a baseball bat. Needless to say Madoka was more than embarrassed after showing them her “preparations”, though Sayaka and Mami support her creative pursuit rather than ridicule her.

On the note of ridicule, Madoka is insecure. When faced with compliments, she has modestly denied them, and when making fashion decisions, even when advised by her starkly-contrasting confident businesswoman mother, she was clearly concerned with standing out and being ‘too flashy’ in her choices (despite being complimented on the decision later that same day). Additionally shy on the outside and putting forth a demure air even when attempting to stand up for herself, Madoka, if not for her kind and personable nature (as well as having friends willing to stick up for her in her place), would most likely be the target of bullying that could diminish her confidence ever more. Though, after becoming a magical girl in several timelines, her confidence during Witch hunts and combat seems to be elevated- likely because, as she told Mami in the first few episodes, “I might not be good at anything, but if I could help out people, like you, I could be proud of the way I live.” In the same vein, Madoka doesn’t believe she has any innate talents or that there is anything “special about” her, despite having the potential to change the universe. It has been speculated this is because her mother is so strong and successful, and Madoka believes she will never hold a candle to her as she is now.

As well, being a teenager, kind, from a loving home, and surrounded by good people, Madoka is very trusting, naïvely so. Even though Homura acts standoffish and curt in the beginning, putting her in a bad light as far as the other protagonists are concerned, Madoka still trusts her word and gives her the benefit of the doubt- whether this is because of latent memories of past timelines and experiences shared with her, her dream, or simply Madoka’s temperament, it certainly says quite a bit about her kind nature. Despite being nervous around Homura on her first day at the school and in her class, she still attempts to be friendly, make small talk on the way to the nurse’s office, and regards her with respect some may have thought Homura did not deserve at the time. She likewise trusts Kyubey and takes what he says at face value, though Madoka may have found no reason not to trust an animal so reminiscent of a stuffed toy or cat. Even when he is blatantly manipulating her during Kyoko and Sayaka’s brawl, in an attempt to get her to make a rash decision on her wish and become a magical girl, she seriously considers doing so; in the belief that, if she stepped in, she could get Kyoko and Sayaka to work together, rather than fight, as despite everything Kyoko has said and done, she also gives her the benefit of the doubt and believes she is or can be a good person.

Finally, as pointed out with her drawings earlier in the section, Madoka falls under the airheaded, innocent protagonist trope through much of the anime. Excepting her quiet nature, she could even be compared to Usagi, the main character of the Sailor Moon anime- most things that come to mind when she’s asked about things that remind her of certain circumstances (i.e. the seasons, as in the survey linked above) are food; she sleeps with stuffed animals; likes to sleep in/has a hard time getting up in the morning some days, and loves animals (notably cats, as in one timeline she wishes to bring a cat she saw killed in front of her back to life in exchange for becoming a magical girl). All of this can be taken in both positive and negative lights, and often her greatest strengths of character are her greatest weaknesses as a potential magical girl.

Homura stated in episode 5 that “A person becomes naïve if they're too kind. Careless if they're too bold. And no matter how hard you try to protect others, there's no gratitude. Those who can't comprehend such things aren't fit to be Magical Girls,” in reference to Madoka attempting to defend Sayaka’s character to her and plead for her to attempt forging a friendship with the new magical girl. However, Madoka, in stating the many things she believed Sayaka to be, also described portions of herself- kind to a fault, compassionate, and someone who seeks positive reinforcement, which are almost all traits Homura claims will lead to her downfall as a magical girl.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

• Steadfast. During her Witch hunts with Mami, and subsequent ventures, Madoka was understandably scared, but pressed forward so long as there was someone beside her- even in the timeline in which she and Homura lost to Walpurgisnacht.

• Kind. Detailed above.

• Level-headed. See trust in Homura, where she made her own decisions based on her observations and experiences rather than going along with Sayaka and Mami’s opinions toward her. Likewise attempts to solve conflicts between irrational parties, such as the fallout of a fight between Sayaka and Kyoko, and lastly takes the entire series to make a decision on her wish, as she wanted it to be beneficial to everyone she cared about. [Latter two points have not happened at the time Madoka has been pulled from.]

• Honest. Even her mother says that she is “a good girl. [She doesn’t] lie and [she doesn’t] do anything bad. [She] always tries to do what is right.”

• Artistic. Though unconfident, she still has the presence of mind and sense to judge color choices (like with her ribbon) and can draw fairly well for a girl of 14, as shown by her drawings of all of her friends in their “costumes”.

• Madoka has a strong sense of justice and set morals she believes everyone subscribes to, though easily forgives most who do not. She thinks almost everyone has redeeming qualities or is worth redemption, like with attempting to reason with Oktavia Von Seckendorff, Sayaka’s Witch form, in order to save her. [Though this has not happened at the time she has been pulled from.]

Weaknesses:

• Naïve. Madoka lacks worldly experience, and so trusts most people at face-value- though, she doesn’t make judgements based on how people seem, i.e. Homura.

• Weak. She herself wishes she were more powerful so that she could protect others and not be the one being protected all the time. Also says that she is not particularly good at Phys. Ed. In the above linked survey, and is easily intimidated by Homura early on.

• Gullible. See Naïve, though she also is repeatedly nearly manipulated by Kyubey to become a magical girl without having made a definite decision on her wish.

• Sensitive. Can also be seen as a strength, though is much more of a weakness. Madoka is often seen crying either alongside or because of her friends, often out of empathy, but also because of her feelings of helplessness. She cried because of Mami’s fate; she cried over Sayaka’s empty vessel, thinking she was dead; she cried with Sayaka when the latter confessed her feelings about the true nature of her being a magical girl, and how it influenced her view of her relationship with her childhood friend and crush Kyosuke, saying that she couldn’t ask him to be affectionate with her because she is “a zombie”. Often, when horrible things are said to her, happen to her friends or otherwise, Madoka will cry, and this goes hand in hand with her other weaknesses.

Madoka is also afraid of death, as seen by her reaction to Mami’s murder, fear in the face of the woman who nearly jumped to her death from the influence of a Witch’s kiss in episode 2, and her reaction to the Witch-induced attempted mass-suicide that included her good friend Hitomi. However, there is little she won’t do because she is afraid to- see Steadfast point- and she keeps a mostly level head even when scared, as demonstrated by her actions in stopping the aforementioned attempted mass-suicide.

U-um... Hello?

[She’s peering at the small device, pressing a few buttons at random to test their functions. She’s clearly not looking into the camera.]

What is this...? Where am I?

[Her gaze is cast around the small town she’s in, searching for any familiar faces. She gives a despairing frown behind her when she finally reaches it, clearly realizing she can’t get back into that house, then turns to the PokéGear again with a slightly more hopeful expression.]

Hello? Is there anyone there who can hear me? I hope this isn’t just something made by that Witch… Oh… It’s Madoka- Hitomi-chan? Are you there? Can you hear me?

[It’s just then that she seems to notice she can see herself in the device, and there’s a light on- blinking. The moment she realizes that it’s recording shows on her face like the dawn, and she blushes, hiding her face slightly while still looking at the display.

To the side of the screen, her bag visibly shakes, though it takes her a moment more of staring at herself to actually notice. Her hair and ribbons are all messed up from getting out of that bed, and she’s trying to tidy herself up... But what’s that?

A purple cat’s head sticks up out of her bag with something in its mouth, and she startles, dropping the PokéGear in the dirt.]

Ah! There’s...!

[The sounds of turning around in the dirt are picked up by the microphone. It can be assumed she’s gone over to it.]

What are you doing in there, kitty? That’s my stuff...

[The Purrloin yowls at her, and she can be heard falling back onto her bottom as it escapes with its prize.]

W-wait! Come back...!

[The PokéGear is left to record the sky for a few more seconds before automatically turning off; it can be assumed she forgot it there in her haste to chase the thieving Pokémon.]

Third Person Sample:

Having finally caught the cat and rescued her bento (it had a note from the woman who was most definitely not her mom on it... she still cared, obviously, like a mom. Madoka smiled to herself at the memory, holding the cat, who decided to stay with her, closer to her chest. Maybe that lady really thought she was her mom? How sad...), Madoka had been wandering around the small town, wondering where to go next. The old man, “Professor Oak”, in the center of what he told them all was “New Bark Town” (he seemed like a nice man; he had a kind face) gave her a little information about this place: there were animals called “Pokémon” here, and they worked together with humans like normal animals. He also said they could fight using them and “develop closer bonds” that way, but…

Madoka wasn’t sure she liked the idea of making animals fight, even if it brought her and them closer. It didn’t seem fair to the Pokémon to make them fight each other for fun when there were a lot of other ways to do so together.

Unfortunately, that seemed like all the information the Professor was giving out. So she wandered.

“This place couldn’t be that Witch’s labyrinth, could it?” Madoka mused to herself, to which “Kitty” replied with a confused trill, looking up at her and nuzzling her face. “Haha- hey, stop! That tickles!”

In her attempts to get her face away from the Purrloin’s affections, Madoka tripped over something- Kitty was quicker on the draw than her, and once the dust cloud settled, could be seen sitting pretty on her back cleaning his paw. “Oww...”

Madoka spat grit from her mouth while cleaning as much off of her school uniform, and, once finished tidying herself again, looked for what she tripped over- “Ah!” a gasp, “Oh, no! I can’t believe I forgot this was here...” It was her PokéGear, now covered in a fine layer of dust but mercifully undamaged! She tucked the (clearly very old technology-wise) item away in her bag, letting out a dejected sigh. “What am I going to do...? I can’t even keep track of everything I was given, how am I supposed to have a “grand adventure” like this?” And furthermore, why was she the one having the grand adventure? Surely someone like Sayaka, or... Mami... would be better suited to something weird and fantastical like this.

She wished Mami were here to advise her… The veteran magical girl had surely dealt with scenarios like this before, right? Madoka couldn’t have just gone crazy when she was pulled in, or... died... right...?

Edd "Double D" | Ed, Edd n Eddy | not reserved

Timezone: PST
Current Characters in Route: William T. Spears and Saburouta Bandou

Character
Name: Edd “Double D”
Series: Ed, Edd n Eddy
Timeline: Post-series
Canon Resource Links: Edd’s Wikia page

Personality: As fellow cast member and resident “cool kid” of the cul-de-sac, Kevin, so repetitively reminds us - Edd is a dork. And out of the three titular characters, he lives up to the stereotypes of the term the most. While Ed is simple-minded and Eddy is greedy and egotistical, Double D is the true brains behind all of Eddy’s scams to obtain money for their prized jawbreakers. Not necessarily in coming up with the ploy, but by inventing whatever contraption Eddy needs or by designing any enticing display the boys may need to draw in customers, usually out of mere cardboard and other junk they find lying around their homes.

But unlike Eddy, his interests expand beyond simply gaining money to fund their jawbreaker obsession. He is very enticed by new things, seeing them as something he can learn from and will even pull out a pencil and pad to take notes on how this new discovery functions. He’s been seen reading science magazines and even has an extensive insect collection. During the final seasons, when the kids finally return to school, we find out that he’s a journalist for the school newspaper and is not only interested in learning but in writing and sharing what he’s researched with others.

In his home life, Edd seems to have both a loving yet distant relationship with his parents. Though they are never shown, we know that he communicates with them through sticky-notes that they leave for him throughout the house. They are mostly requests for him to do an abundance chores, which is perhaps where he acquired his OCD tendencies when it comes to cleanliness. Edd’s house is always literally sparkling clean, and when he’s not at home, he will randomly take out cleaning supplies to clean up anything he finds too “filthy.” He’s even been known to break his usually composed behaviour when he’s gone too long without tidying something up, or if he’s become excessively dirty from some shenanigans Eddy’s gotten them into.

Edd’s usual speech is extremely polite and well mannered. He has a very large vocabulary, considering his age and never uses any swear words, instead opting to say, “Oh dear!” or “Oh my!” He’s very compassionate towards all of the other kids in the cul-de-sac, even if some of them may tease or even be violent towards him. However, while Eddy is usually met with more hostility and Ed with more odd looks from the others, Edd is usually treated kindly and just like one of the “regular kids.” Perhaps this is why he is so good at mediating, as they all respect him to a degree. If he notices someone being treated unfairly, he will immediately come to their aid and attempt to defuse the situation in the most nonviolent way possible. He’s almost like the “parent” of the group when no parents are ever actually present.

Yet, despite all this, even Double D has a breaking point and will snap if pushed beyond it. As I stated before it can be due to his OCD habits getting the best of him, but sometimes he merely gets fed up with the hijinks that Eddy pulls and will reprimand him and the others on their behaviour. He often uses heavy sarcasm, which tends to fly over most of the kids' heads, as a more passive aggressive way of expressing his disapproval for some of Eddy’s ideas, but will usually go along with it anyway to make his friend happy.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Intelligent, especially in comparison to some of the other kids in his neighborhood.
+ Well spoken, having a large vocabulary for his age.
+ Outgoing and fairly social. He is the president of two clubs at school and is a journalist for the school’s newspaper.
+ Very skilled at playing the pedal steel guitar.
+ Good at mediating between two disputing parties.
+/- “MacGyvering” - he’s able to take everyday items and piece them together to create anything from a simple device that will simplify an everyday task, to a complex machine that will perform more laborious acts. Though, these devices do have the tendency to backfire or come apart rather frequently, though this is sometimes due to the other kids inflicting damage upon it.
+/- OCD, especially in regards to cleanliness. He’ll even bring cleaning supplies with him or put down a paper towel to sit on if he deems the surface to filthy to sit upon. He also has the compulsive habit of over organizing and owns a label maker specifically to label each and every item in his room, including walls and windows.
+/- Despite being polite most of the time, he can get worked up and even yell in a scolding manner at people when he gets frustrated enough, usually about things being too unsanitary, people excessively ignoring his requests or if he sees anyone being overly insensitive towards someone else.
- Extremely insecure about having his hat removed or stolen, though we are never told exactly why. Only Ed and Eddy have seen what secret lies beneath Edd’s hat and apparently it’s bad enough to hold as blackmail against him.
- In poor physical shape, as he gets easily out of breath when running and has been shown to be very weak when it comes to laborious activities.

[ Double D comes onto the screen of his PokeGear, which appears as though it’s been propped up against an item on his desk. He takes a step backward, making sure he’s centered in the camera frame before clearing his throat. ]

If I may have everyone’s attention? I have an exciting, and if I may say so myself, well overdue product to share with you all!

[ He steps to the side, revealing a sort of “fanny pack” type device - except that it seems to be hastily constructed out of everyday household objects: a stapled t-shirt for the bag portion, rope and a bungee cord for the straps and an old belt buckle for the clasp. All wrapped together with an abundance of duct tape. ]

I present to you: The IncubEgg Hatch-Pack. Of course, this is just a mere prototype. But think of the potential! To nurture one’s dear Pokemon egg at all times, without the arduous task of hauling around a cumbersome yet delicate container!

[ It’s obvious by his grin and clasped hands that he’s very excited about this. ]

And the possibilities for advancement on this design are immeasurable! My sketches for a shoulder-slung model, capable of carrying up to four eggs at a time, are looking most promising, indeed.

Of course, consideration of the potential customer’s input is the basis of any good product, so I would be highly interested in compiling and analyzing any comments or concerns you have based on the model I have presented. And remember, honesty is always the best policy!

Third Person Sample:

“Eddward dear, wake up or you’re going to be late for your big day~!”

Edd slowly opened his eyes, sighing groggily before the word “late” finally sunk into his waking mind.

“L-LATE?!” He shot up out of bed, getting his yellow onesie pajamas slightly tangled in the sheets as he fumbled around for the alarm clock — which wasn’t quite where he’d remembered it always being.

“Oh dear! Oh heavens! A blemish on my perfect attendance record! How could this have happened? I specifically recall setting my alarm to—“

It was no wonder he’d been grasping around in dead space for an alarm that was, oddly, placed in a different location than normal. This was not his alarm clock. It wasn’t even labeled as such — how unorganized! Perplexed, Edd glanced around the rest of the room, noting with a shiver of uneasiness that he was most certainly in someone else’s home.

Well, whatever this predicament he’d been placed into was, he certainly wasn’t going to get any answers by sitting in this unknown room fretting over it. And so, Edd quietly made his way out of the bedroom, walking the halls of the foreign house until he stumbled upon the kitchen. The woman at the counter addressed him before he could so much as open his mouth.

“Sit and eat your breakfast, Eddward.”

Edd tapped his fingers together, a bit concerned about this woman’s well-being, what with her son obviously missing and her projecting that contained emotion onto him. He politely took a seat anyway, to show her he had nothing but the best intentions.

“Though my name is, in fact, Eddward — with two D’s, mind you — I have to confess that I am not your son. To be honest, I am not quite certain how I came to be in this position. That is, located in your lovely abode.”

The woman merely laughed and placed a plate of warm porridge in front of him, insisting he eat.

“Oh my, well I suppose a refusal of your hospitality would be rude.” Edd partook of the porridge, quite taken aback by how much it reminded him of his own mother’s cooking.

Character
Name: Sasuke Uchiha (うちはサスケ)
Series: Naruto
Timeline: End Manga Chapter 139/Anime Episode 80 – Post-Konoha Invasion Arc in Part I
Canon Resource Links: Click me!

Personality: To anyone initially meeting him, Sasuke would appear to be a quiet, cold, and arrogant individual who cares about nothing but his own goals. He is usually in control of his emotions and keeps them hidden from the world, making him appear to be the image of an ideal shinobi. However, there are certain subjects capable of bringing out his more poisonous hatred, which causes him to brood when it’s mild and lash out violently when it’s not. Considering what said subject matter is, his reactions to it could be seen as both normal and extreme at the same time.

Having long-forgotten how to trust in people, Sasuke cannot express himself or his emotions as effectively as he should. Again, he will keep his emotions and problems locked away with the feeling that he has to take on all of his own ambitions, responsibilities, and tasks alone, without any form of aid from others (as he frequently saw the need to rely on others as a form of weakness). In more recent canon development for him, this has diminished to allowing trusted others to help him and utilizing their skills in order to take the advantage in the situations he finds himself in, and finding that using teamwork isn’t as much of a personal flaw as he had first thought. He found it especially helpful in taking down opponents who were too much for him to fight by himself, allowing greater combative prowess for not just himself but for his squad as well.

Sasuke is also constantly trying to evaluate his own strength in comparison to his peers, always trying to make certain that he remained ahead by far enough and was always growing stronger. As a result he trains and pushes himself almost constantly, barely leaving enough time for the necessities in his life (such as food, personal hygiene and rest), criticizing himself upon any failures or even upon letting his peers come to close to his strength. Personal strength and the need to be the best are obsessions of Sasuke’s, and he will not relent on improvement in himself at almost any cost. However, at this point, there are still some things he would refuse to give up for power.

As of late, Sasuke has allowed certain individuals to become important to him. Because of this, signs of devotion and dedication to his team have started to surface in his behavior, the first obvious act being one of sacrifice in order to attempt to save a teammate from harm. He has also shown rage upon seeing his comrades injured and took swift vengeance against the culprits in the past, and most recently he willingly pushed his body too far and let poisonous chakra corrupt him in his efforts to save the life of his endangered teammates again. Even with his worries about being surpassed by the teammate he had initially dismissed as a foolish failure, he still sees the value of the other and his own continuing growth, although he will continue to push himself harder so that he can gain that edge over said teammate again.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Weaknesses:
- Obsessive to a fault
- Passive – Goes with the flow of the situation
- Arrogant
- Not Trusting
- Quick to self-sacrifice
- Disregards self-limitations
- Uncooperative with others (gradually diminishing)
- Prone to panic when completely overpowered

Strengths:
- Steel-trap mind
- Able to think on the fly
- Able to take care of himself (cooking, budgeting, cleaning, ect.) (has been doing so since he was eight)
- Dedicated to improving himself and his abilities
- Agile and physically fit
- Very perceptive eyes – able to catch minute changes in environment
- Observant
- Goal Oriented

Fears
- Indecision
- Being completely overpowered
- Not being strong enough to kill his brother
- His brother
- Being surpassed by his peers

First Person Sample: [ The video transmission flickers on, showing a small and lithe male entirely in rocket blacks. His hat is low over his face, masking his eyes from view with the combination of the visor and shadow blocking them out from the camera's lens. The act is just that, however – an act. He knows he has to play the bad guy all out or risk recognition. The desire for more information is strong however, and an anonymous video transmission seems like the best way to get information outside of Team Rocket without hopefully outing himself.

If nothing else, he can feign not having his memories for the time being. ]

So this world we're in is called Johto. And we, Team Rocket, have a role against all of the trainers and breeders of the world. Warring, fighting for our own interests.

I look forward to someday fighting the strongest opponents out there and crushing them to nothing. No one else will do.

[ His expression quirks into a tight-lipped smirk, even if inwardly he's feeling a little sick. He knows this is wrong. The slight quiver is probably the only sign of his inner turmoil, but he stills too quickly for it to be noticed for more than an instant before the feed clicks off, leaving his gear open to replies to his ominous threat. Although what he says about his desire for challenges is true, wanting to crush them... That isn't something he's wanted for quite some time. Still, he has to fake it.

After all, he is a ninja. ]

Third Person Sample: When he woke up that morning, it wasn't to the familiar room with minimalist décor he had grown so accustomed to over the years. No, it was to a dark room, one which startled him as a flood of memories that seemed so foreign began to return. His time in the world of Pokémon came back, and it shocked him as his stomach flipped. He wasn't in New Bark Town, and the pokémon at his side wasn't the familiar Blaziken that he knew was his closest partner.

The Pawniard that came out of his pokéball stared up at him, making a metallic noise before it bowed slightly at the waist. It was something Sasuke wasn't used to, and it made him tense. It made him realize that, at the moment, he knew he wouldn't be seeing any friendly faces for a long time.

With the pokémon back in its ball, Sasuke stood and re-adjusted his uniform, the hat low over his brow as he looked around. This was his new environment, according to his manual, for at least two weeks. He'd have to make the most of it there, and get whatever information he could. All he could hope for then was that it had been so long since he'd last been there that any recognition would be minimal.

When he finally reached a common area he could feel the gaze of several rocket members on him, causing an acute discomfort in him that he refused to show. Above all else, he was a ninja of Konoha and he knew how to mask his emotions when he needed to. After all of his previous experiences it was a little easier, and the less anyone knew about him or his past the better. At last he seated himself, still rather stiff and simply observing the room for now.

Sasuke's first day as a rocket... He knew he wouldn't want to stay there forever. But, at least for a while, this was his new headquarters, his house, and where he would receive the orders that he would currently have no choice but to follow.

At least, convincingly enough to not be perceived as a threat.

Edea Lee | Bravely Default | Unreserved

[personal profile] fashionaabluh 2015-06-21 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Character
Name: Edea Lee
Series: Bravely Default
Timeline: End of Chapter 4
Canon Resource Links: Edea Lee

Personality: Most central to Edea's personality is an extremely strong and well-principled sense of justice. She often describes people as either black (with adjectives such as 'as pitch' if she wants to add emphasis) or white, though we do see that Ringabel, at least, can shift from day-to-day based on his actions. Early in the story, when the man she is working under attacks innocent villagers and then even kills his own troops in order to attack the main party, she even goes so far as to switch sides, judging his actions-and therefore the actions of the Duchy of Eternia, her homeland-to be much too vile for her to remain on his side.

This same sense of justice brings along with it a pattern of brash behavior, something that Edea shares with her father. In Chapter 4, as the conflict with him approaches, both she and he are told again and again that they should attempt to put aside their clashing ideals in order to spare the other, but in the end, Edea and the rest of the party inevitably come to blows with her father, injuring him near-fatally. In the same scene, she shows herself willing to sacrifice the life of her mother for the greater good, reinforcing the idea that she identifies this sense of justice as being of the utmost importance.

A streak of brashness is also present in Edea, and a tendency to entirely disregard her own safety. When the party is captured, she rescues the other three from the dungeon on her own, utilizing a secret passage from her childhood bedroom that her father was unaware of. Without her bravery, she might well have simply stayed safe in her room and hoped for an opportunity to come her way or for her friends to escape on their own terms.

Of course, Edea isn't defined entirely by these traits-though they are certainly the ones her father most encouraged in her upbringing, he and her mother raising her to be a knight. Edea expresses interest in fashion, shopping, and food-especially sweets. She's not a particularly good cook herself, though she seems to like her own bizarre concoctions-while everyone else considers them disgustingly odd. She also has a playful streak, delighting, for example, in teasing Ringabel when she manages to actually turn his repeated flirtations upon him and realizes just how easy to fluster he is.

Through all of the events of the game, Edea also shows an uncommon resiliency. Again and again, she's face to face and sword to sword with former friends, comrades, and even family. Using her aforementioned sense of justice, she's able to face them again and again despite the pain that we do see it causing her-realizing that her views of what's good for everyone are more important than those she has a liking for. That being said, her ability to come to her friends for help when she needs it is also doubtlessly one of the forces keeping her strong throughout the game.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
-A strong moral compass.
-Solid judge of character.
-Martial training and survival skills.

Weaknesses:
-Doesn't often take time to think her actions through.
-Quick to anger.
-Her sense of morality can lead her to over-simplify issues.

So I'm not really used to this technology yet, but I've been told I can use it to communicate. One second, I-

[The switch from text to video was, thankfully, not too difficult. The blonde girl smiled briefly at the screen before scrunching her nose, not entirely certain if it was working-but speaking up as though it was, at least.]

Ringabel would probably take right to it, just like with the airship. Though I'm not really sure who he is, anymore...but that doesn't really matter here, does it? I'm not sure how I ended up in Johto, but now that I'm here, better to make the most of it.

[The first step would be to find out more about exactly what went on in Johto, she supposed.]

I'm posting this because I was hoping to meet some friends. I've been out in the grass fighting with Dim, but meeting some other humans would be nice. And maybe somebody to show me around? Just none of those Rocket creeps I've been hearing about-I'm sure they can't be trusted.

[She'd completely forgotten to even give her name, but hopefully that wouldn't be an issue.]

Third Person Sample:
Letting somebody else fight for her wasn't really in Edea's nature. Sure, she'd occasionally used summons in battle-but now, this whole 'pokemon battling' things was new to her. Though she was far from the worst tactician, Edea had always been more the warrior than the strategist-something that was now giving her a headache. She couldn't figure out what exactly was going wrong, why Dim didn't just...know how to do everything on his own. After all, his namesake had been quite the warrior-somehow it only followed that the pokemon should have been too.

"Come on, Dim, you've got this!" Watching him battled against a wild Sentret was almost embarrassing. Here he was, a Pawniard-something that she thought, at least, should have meant that he was quite the powerful pokemon. Unfortunately, he'd get caught up waiting for her to issue a command-he'd been bred to be a pokemon for a beginning trainer, after all, not in the wild-and Edea tended to just shout and cheer rather than actually issue orders. Edea winced as the furry monster battling her own barreled into him, no doubt causing a fair bit of damage.

As she watched him wobble slightly, she shook her head, stomping her foot harshly against the grass. "Use scratch! We've been over this, haven't we?" Things tended to go better when training against trees and rocks-but then Dim didn't usually have to worry about being attacked back when he was scratching at immobile opponents incapable of fighting back. Her own hesitation and lack of patience probably didn't help, either-but she'd get over those with time, with any luck. That, or end up broke and starving. Considering the latter fate was one she'd rather avoid, Edea would have to actually dedicate some time to learning to be a better trainer.

Fortunately, things hadn't gone so terribly just yet, it seemed. Dim managed to land a critical hit, and Edea let out a victorious shout as the Sentret fainted. "Alright, that's more like it. Return." Holding his pokeball aloft, the beam shot out to recall Dim. Maybe she should find something to read up on this...but on the other hand, she should be able to pick up experience just by trying, right?

Character
Name: Perry the Platypus
Series: Phineas and Ferb
Timeline: Post-Canon
Canon Resource Links:
The show in general
Perry himself

Personality:
At first glance, Perry seems like he's the living embodiment of everyone's idea of a secret agent. He's quiet, stoic, and no nonsense in most things he does. In fact he's probably the only agent at the OWCA who actually takes his job seriously, and as he should considering that he's the top agent there. He's been referred to constantly in canon as unshakable, and Perry himself would claim that he has no fears or flaws.

He does, however, also get annoyed very easily, and isn't afraid to show it. It doesn't matter if you're his boss, if you do something he finds annoying, he will openly roll his eyes at you. No one in his canon ever brings it up though besides Heinz because when you're a top agent at a secret agency, you get special privileges like showing disapproval.

Interestingly enough, he seems to have become a little less serious by the end of the series. He still takes his job completely seriously, but he becomes downright friendly to his nemesis even before he became good. He is supportive of him to the point where Doofenshmirtz even refers to Perry as "his rock". Even besides his nemesis, he has become more friendly with his coworkers, particularly Lyla from COWCA (Canadian Organization Without a Cool Acronym), even though he was downright annoyed at her at first.

Perry adores children, which comes from being raised in an environment where all the kids loved and cared about him. And even while one of them grew to be grossed out by him, he still felt very loved by all of them. This leads to Perry tending like most children he meets, and especially kids who remind him of Phineas and/or Ferb.

If he cares for anyone enough, he would be willing to do anything to protect them. It's most evident in the Phineas and Ferb movie where Perry willingly gives up his humanity to 2D!Doofenshmirtz to ensure their kid's safety. Even though 2D!Doof broke his promise, this shows that Perry values the life over people he cares about over his own. One can claim that because of his training, it's obvious that he would want to protect others above his own. However, he takes the well being of others more seriously than his job, as evidenced in one episode where he broke the normal thwarting routine against Dr. Doofenshmirtz because his inator would possibly kill Phineas and Ferb.

Similarly, if someone he cares about shows disapproval of him or tells him that they don't want him around anymore, Perry will go into a depression. This often includes openly crying and sulking around. This has been shown multiple times in the series both with his nemesis Heinz Doofenshmirtz and with Phineas. When either of them had expressed that they don't want to see Perry anymore, Perry quickly went into a downwards spiral where, at one point even, it was implied he temporarily quit the OWCA because of it.

If he has a choice during down time, Perry enjoys doing simple things. He seems to love having tea parties and eating muffins with his nemesis and spends at least most of his days off watching soap operas and eating junk food. The only other time he is shown at least attempting a day off is when he's on vacation with his family

Despite how Perry is a serious and sometimes humorless secret agent, he is far from "Mr. No-fun", despite what he might claim. He does have a soft heart and can even let loose every once in awhile. Just don't go about doing evil (or be really terrible at being evil) and it honestly shouldn't be too hard to get on Perry's good side. At least until you annoy him.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+Great in combat
It's no great secret that, being raised as a secret agent, Perry would be good in combat. He is incredibly strong, agile, and fast for a platypus and this will carry over when he's a human. And he will definately adopt his fighting style to his Pokemon.

+ Good at operating machinery
He's no brilliant hacker, but time and time again he's been shown to be good with machinery. He can drive, work machinery without any instruction, and even upgrade machinery in less than an afternoon with the help of Doofenshmirtz.

+ Sense of Justice
Perry is unafraid to do what he feels is right, no matter who's opposing him. It doesn't matter if the person is in a position of power, stronger than him in some way, or even if they're a friend, if Perry learns that they are doing/will do something evil, he will make sure that they will be stopped.

+ Kind
This might not be overly obvious since he tends to be kind of snarky, but Perry is an incredibly nice person at heart. He's the kind of person who would go out of his way to make sure someone he cares about is happy, and would even do random acts of kindness if someone looks nice enough.

+ Communicates with animals
Given that he's an animal himself, he can communicate with other animals easily. So he should be able to communicate with Pokemon probably well before he can talk to other humans.

+/- Hero complex
Definitely a result of his upbringing, Perry jumps at the opportunity to be the "hero". Not really because he wants the praise, but solely because he feels like he has to. Because of his competence, he definately wouldn't be bad help if he hears of "evil" going on, but he cannot comprehend the idea that people might not want his help in the first place.

+/- Strong attachment to family
Perry adores his family, and if he befriends someone who he ends up perceiving as family, will become incredibly protective over them. However, since none of the Flynn-Fletchers will be there, at least at the moment of Perry's arrival, he will quickly get homesick and start to worry about them.

- Black and White mentality
Perry is quick to judge whether a person is good or evil and doesn't really believe that a gray area exists for morality. If a person looks or seems evil, they are evil, otherwise they are good. It will also take Perry awhile for him to change his mind about someone if he decides evil.

- Struggles with the idea of Teamwork
Perry, if given a choice, would much rather work alone than with a partner. When he has to work with someone else he would do it begrudgingly at best and trying to take over the job himself at worst. He may eventually enjoy working with his teammate, but only if they can prove to him that they're a valuable teammate.

- Sarcastic as heck
Even though he's mute, he can tend to be really sarcastic judging by his liberal use of eyerolls. I can only imagine it getting worse once he learns how to talk human.

- Secretive
Even though his family isn't here, Perry will try to give out as little personal information about him as possible. He is a little worried that since he arrived here, there's a good chance that it won't be an isolated incident knowing Danville. So any personal questions beyond "What is your name?" or "What are your hobbies?" will be waved off as "confidential" unless someone is really able to gain Perry's trust.

- Mute
While I definately don't plan on this being permanent, Perry will not be able to talk when he first arrives. He understands English perfectly, but lips confuse him and it will take a while to copy the noises he hears.

First Person Sample: I've been thinking.

[There was a long pause. One might think that he forgot to continue on that thought before he actually posts his next text.]

Why do none of the nonhumans here arrive as “Pokemon”? It seems like it would be easier for whatever brought us here to change some of us into a Pokemon.

[Another pause.]

For example: if someone's a cow, why would they arrive as a human and not a Milktank?

If someone has an answer please respond ASAP. I've been thinking about this all day.

[If he was being honest, he would have mentioned that he was thinking about this since last night and has even lost some sleep over it. However, that seemed kind of a sad thing to say.].

Third Person Sample: Perry groaned when he heard someone calling his name. Ugh the kids are at school now, no one would care if he slept in at this point.

"Perryyy, you're going to be late!" the voice called again. Late for what? They weren't going on vacation anytime soon unless Perry forgot. Grumbling inwardly, Perry rubbed his eyes to try to get the sleep out.

And stopped when he noticed that his paw suddenly seemed so fleshy.

Slowly, Perry opened his eyes, dreading what he would see. Sure enough, instead of a teal paw, there was instead a human hand right in front of him. Perry let out a noise that sounded like a strangled mixture of his normal chitter and a cry of shock and fell out of bed in the process of trying to scramble out of it.

He managed to quickly get up and find a mirror, only to be completely confused what he saw in the mirror. Well, he didn't body swap with Candace, that's for sure, but he had no idea who this person's body is. He seemed attractive by human's standards, although his nose was kind of long. He was also in a suit and fedora and had eyes that were a similar shade of brown than his own.

Perry's eyes widened that, while he didn't want to believe it, this was his own body, except now it was humanized.

"Sweetie there won't be any Pokemon left if you don't leave soon!" the voice broke Perry from his near break down as he realized that he didn't even recognize whoever was talking to him. Perry quickly headed down the stairs and a backpack was promptly thrusted into his hands. The strange woman ruffled his hair and cried about how her little boy has grown up so fast before rushing him out the door.

The oddness of someone being even a little motherly to him for once did distract him a tiny bit from the hecticness of every other strange new thing that was going on right now.

Soon after that, he stared long and hard at the entrance to Route 29, his new Psyduck (whom he already decided that his name would be Bartholomew) lazily in tow. Well, this whole situation was new and kind of unpleasant, but he wasn't going to get anything accomplished by sitting around and moping. So, taking a deep breath, Perry set off on a new adventure, hoping someone here knows how to build a interdimensional portal.

Character
Name: Teddie
Series: Persona 4
Timeline: End of the game, True Ending (Vanilla version)
Canon Resource Links: Warning: Bears ahead

Personality: The first impression Teddie gives, other than being a giant talking stuffed bear thing, is that he's a big friendly dork. Teddie, in a nutshell, is described as the group clown; he acts just as ridiculous as he appears. He loves to laugh, have a good time, make corny jokes, and especially likes to sprinkle what he says with a bear pun or two. (Even if they don't make much sense.) He's pretty much a cheerful kind of bear.

Like, for example, he likes to cheerfully look through all your stuff. Curiosity is a rather strong factor to Teddie's character. Lots and lots of things are still 'new' for him, as such he tends to poke his nose in places it probably shouldn't be or gets carried away when investigating new places. Yukiko mentions during their first shopping trip at Junes that Teddie messed up the women's section of the store pretty badly. It's this curiosity and lack of knowledge that gives Teddie a sort of innocent and naive charm. Things like saying words he just heard and/or doesn't know the meaning to and asking lots of questions about things most people should know are common behaviors of his.

In general, it's because of this that Teddie tends to act much like a child than he does a teenager. He has a very simple way of thinking and complex ideas easily confuse or frustrate him. He likes sweet foods, ice cream --'topsicles' being his favorite--stories with happy endings, and songs with upbeat tunes. Therefore, Teddie has an easier time connecting and relating with children rather than his own 'peers'. This is why he becomes extremely close friends with the protagonist's six-year-old cousin, Nanako. (Who he affectionately refers to as 'Nana-chan')

With a child-like personality, however, comes all the negative aspects of one, too. Teddie is prone to crying, whining, and throwing tantrums when he doesn't get his way or doesn't fully understand something. He will shout, flail his arms, and genuinely be a nuisance. His work ethic is surprisingly nonexistent. To put it simply, he's lazy when it comes to manual work. At his job at Junes, he tends to cut corners and take naps in the mattress section when on the clock. He seems to have no shame in this, either, fully admitting and almost proud of his laziness.

Along with that, Teddie has been known to display some animalistic characteristics. He will growl when he's angry, although it's not very threatening, attempt to roar, and is not above biting stray fingers that venture too close to his mouth. He's getting better when it comes to these mannerisms, but they do tend to 'shine' when he's in a battle.

In social situations, Teddie has proven to be, well, awkward. Again, thanks to living alone the majority of his life, he has a hard time with what's acceptable and what is not when dealing with other people. He sees no problem when it comes to invading personal space, staring, and he has a very weird habit of rolling around for little to no reason. In fact, if Teddie isn't acting socially inept, his friends become suspicious because they're just that used to it by now. Even though he can be annoying, Teddie can at least pass for tolerable and it's pretty easy to ignore his ...Teddieness.

If there's one thing Teddie loves, though, it's humans. Humans were pretty much a huge deciding factor when it came to basically his whole direction in life, literally shaping him to what he is today. Before humans, all Teddie ever knew was loneliness. There was nothing else. It was only when the team came crashing down from the sky did he find the joys of friendship, companionship, or even simply having his existence acknowledged.

Girls, in particular, are Teddie's favorite. Thanks to an earlier conversation when the team was battling Yukiko's Shadow, Teddie has a fascination with 'scoring'. He then developed the nasty little habit of becoming a huge flirt, hitting on the girls of the team whenever possible. This, of course, always fails, but Teddie doesn't seem to slow down or give up on it. It is unclear whether or not Teddie actually knows what scoring is. Although, because of his general lack of understanding most things anyway, it can be assumed that he doesn't and all advances should be taken with a grain of salt. Either way, he has dreams of 'smooching' and will only ever let girls pet his silky soft fur. He will outright deny any male requests for petting, seen multiple times when Kanji asks. (Although it is apparently possible to win him over via an act of kindness and/or for a favor)

All this joyful bear stuff is only one side to him, though. In actuality, Teddie is a surprisingly complex critter. He has a lot of feelings, most of them conflicting, and he doesn't understand how to express them properly half the time. This is, again, due in part to living the majority of his life completely isolated from other sentient life. As one can imagine, actually being introduced to outside life has expanded his view on the world and, in turn, has opened up many new feelings and questions that he now seeks answers to.

For the longest time, one of those questions was who or what he was thanks to some self induced amnesia. The majority of his character arc seems to be focused on this and it causes him a great deal of stress. Of course, when he eventually finds out he was originally a Shadow, he's not too happy about that and can see why he forced himself to forget in the first place. It's thanks to the help of the protagonist and Nanako that he comes to accept this and is declared "just like humans" by his friends where it doesn't seem to bother him anymore.

Teddie also has bouts of separation anxiety, he doesn't like being alone now that he knows what friendship is. He has been noted outright refusing to return to the TV World on his own, rather wanting to stay with Yosuke and putting up with working at Junes than having to deal with staying there again. When Teddie does believe it's time to return, he'll usually sulk and ask if he can still stay, to which the answer is always a yes and no one can understand why Teddie keeps asking that. It can be hinted through this that it's a constant worry of his that he'll be forced to go back one day. This changes near the end of the game once the TV world is restored to its beautiful self and Teddie has no issues with going back. He'll still visit from time to time. Or a lot. You can never rid yourself of bear.

It's also because of this that Teddie is very attached to anyone he makes friends with. No matter how much he may argue with some of them, he adores them all and would put his life on the line for any of them. The last thing Teddie wants is to lose any of his friends and, so help him, you better not mess with them.

Speaking of, this is the only thing that allows him to fight. Normally, Teddie is a coward. Large, spooky things usually frighten him, UNLESS he has someone to back him up and encourage him OR he's protecting his friends. Teddie has described these moments of courage as his feet just moving on their own at least twice. Since gaining a Persona, Teddie doesn't run away screaming as much as he used to, but if something seems like a monster to him, you can be sure he's not going to try and make friends right away.

All in all, Teddie is like an emotional roller coaster. He's normally a happy-go-lucky, comic relief sort of guy, but every now and then he could use a little pick-me-up. You get used to him.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Kind Teddie's biggest desire is to be loved and accepted by people, it's why he chose a bear form in the first place. As such, he will try to befriend anyone who gives him any sort of attention. He loves to make friends.
+Loyal Adding onto the first point, anyone who does become his friend pretty much becomes a friend for life. Teddie doesn't have family, so his friends are everything to him.
+Funny Teddie loves to joke and make people laugh, even at his own expense. He wants nothing more than to see others smile.
+Crafting/Resourceful For whatever reason (It's never explained), Teddie is very good at making glasses. Who even knows out of what or why, he just does it. He can also make dolls, out of his own fur even. He can probably make other things too if given the right motivation.
+Curious/Eager to learn Everything is still kind of new for Teddie, and he wants to learn it all.

-Annoying Teddie's idea of humor isn't for everyone, and others might easily find him grating. He also has a terrible flirting problem that drives his female friends up the wall.
-Ignorant Because of his lack of real world experience, Teddie often comes off as stupid. In reality, he's just really ignorant and naive to how the world works, but it doesn't make it any less annoying.
-Socially awkward Personal bubbles are nonexistent in Teddie's world. He loves to stick his nose in places it doesn't belong out of curiosity, or mess up display cases or whatever he can get his hands on if he gets too excited. If you don't know how to control him, you might have a difficult time.
-Immature Teddie tends to act more like a child than he does a teenager. He's prone to crying and tantrums if he doesn't get his way.
-Dependent on other people/Lazy Although he's capable of taking care of himself (how else do you survive the TV World?) Teddie has admitted he'd much rather have people take care of him instead. This is probably because he's prone to loneliness and can get a bit clingy. He's also a slacker when it comes to work. Food motivation usually helps.

[The feed starts off with a nice, blurry view of...someone's nose. It stays like that for a good second or two before the video wiggles about and a shuffling noise can easily be heard. Looks like someone's learning on the spot. Thankfully it doesn't take too long before it zooms out and focuses on the weird little blonde kid holding the thing.]

Woah-ho! Guess who just got a fancy new cellphone~ [He pauses for a few seconds, smiling eagerly. It's like he really expects people to guess.] That's right, this bear! ...O-Oh! But that's not all, there's also...

[More shuffling as he bends over, the feed once again becoming a blurry mess before he stands back up. This time, however, he's now accompanied by an adorable blue and white bear on his shoulder.]

...This bear! [The Cubchoo raises her paws in the air and cheers, just as excited as her trainer.] Aw yeah, we got a bear combo going on here! Yosuke's gonna be so jealous~

[He snickers to himself, his pokemon giggling along despite not getting it, before Teddie stops all too suddenly as he comes to a horrible realization. He didn't recall putting in a phone number...]

Hey, wait a minute! Who the heck am I even callin' here?!

[More fiddling now, and before he can even get an answer, the feed ends. That...that wasn't the right button at all.]

Third Person Sample:
"GAH-AHH!! Wh-Where is it?!'

Random odds and ends of goods flew in the air and even hit a few trees as Teddie knelt down over his backpack and began throwing just about everything his hands could grab. Frantic, he searched every inch of that bag before he finally reached the bottom, pulling out an unfamiliar outfit. His face dropped, absolutely crushed, and he proceeded to grab at his hair and pull, obviously frustrated. A low growl even slipped through his teeth, old habits die hard.

"I-I can't bearlieve it, I lost my fur! My fur! My magnificent silky coat, all lost and alone without me! Nggghhh, I'm gonna be a bear naked bear at this rate!"

With one last disgruntled growl, he tossed this lesser outfit without a single care and lowers his head in defeat. A bear without its fur...it's practically a crime. However, before it could even hit the ground, his Cubchoo managed to catch it just in time, as well as a few other things she was able to save from her owner's spectacular tantrum. There's a tiny sigh of relief from her, expecting everything to be over. After all, she did build up a good pile of stuff. There was only so much those tiny arms could hold!

...That was until Teddie peeked over his shoulder, right at her. A sort of...mischievous glint in his eye.

"I know..."

There's an almost evil chuckle in his voice. Before Cubchoo even had a chance to bolt, Teddie rushed in front of her on all fours, holding out one of his arms at her. He couldn't look more excited even if he tried.

"We can totally track it down! I so know you can 'cause I used to do it aaaalll the time!" he beamed at his own genius, holding out his arm even closer in hopes to encourage his pokemon to sniff him, get his scent. "Go on, don't be shy~"

Hesitantly, Cubchoo takes a few small sniffs before her nose began to wiggle. Once...twice... Teddie watched, confused by her actions, his head tilted to one side.

"H-Hey, what's the hold up?"

There are no words, Cubchoo instead responds with a nice big sneeze, all over her trainer's arm. The kind of sneeze that instantly encased it in a shimmering layer of ice. Teddie could only stare at it in a silent awe, his eyes large and wide at the power this tiny bear possessed. It actually reminded him a lot of himself, who knew ice powers were just a bear thing? Go figure.

"Heheh...M-Maybe he should do this some other time," he gave his partner a reassuring smile, so she knew well enough he wasn't mad over that. He...he's sure it was just an accident. "You know, I always wondered what it'd be like to be a topsicle..."

Character
Name: Emil.
Series: Nier (Gestalt).
Timeline: Before entering the Shadowlord's castle.
Canon Resource Links:
Emil on the Nier wiki.
Rough timeline of Emil's life.

Personality:
Even though he's well over 1,000 years old, Emil is still very much a kid in both mind and body. Events hit him fast and hard, getting an instinctual, emotional response. When things go wrong, he yells, he cries, he isn't prepared, and he reacts to the happy times in equal measure. Emil is often voicing his opinions, commenting on the game's sidequests or calling the other party members out on their own, more guarded ways, which often earns him praise for being thoughtful, optimistic, etc. He takes these praises eagerly, using them to boost his failing self-image. However, there are also times that the boy reveals a more mature side of himself, one not so openly whimsical. He may not remember all his time spent alive, referring back to "when [he] was young" when such a thing spanned from age ~10 to ~1,345 apparently, but he doesn't really consider his life when he compares his needs to that of his friends'. Others are far more important to him, even to the point where, though he is scared and very much does not want to die, he sacrifices himself for his friends' sakes and ignores their cries of protest. He offers this at multiple points in the game, but it isn't until the end, when he's grown in his relationship with the party, they've nearly reached their goal, and he's accepted himself that he does more than voice his intent.

A part of his willingness to put others first comes from his own negative view of himself. This slowly gets better throughout his time spent with Nier, Kainé, and Weiss, but Emil has spent far longer hating himself for the horrible things he'd done because he couldn't control his abilities. Unintentionally, Emil has brought many lives to their ends. There aren't many times we get to hear him actually voice his regret, but his reluctance to leave his mansion that separates him from the rest of the world and the way he tries to turn away help in regards to curing his cursed eyes because it could cause trouble for others are indicators to the boy's view of himself as one who doesn't deserve to belong with others. When his body changes into his skeleton-like weapon form, he tries to hide himself from view because he's more visibly ugly and he doesn't want his only friends to leave him. Later, when turned away from Nier's village, he pretends to not be bothered, assuring Nier that it's naturally for people to be afraid of him. However, when on the verge of losing one from his support network, he begs Kainé to stay by him because it's only because of her that he can be strong and forget his monstrous appearance. He relies heavily on those around him for encouragement, and sees their deeds as much greater than his own. In the end, he's still disgusted by what he looks like, but the journey he's gone on with his friends has been enough that he's proud of who he is, no matter what that person looks like, because now he had the power to do something other than destroy.

While building others up in his mind is something he spends a lot of time on, Emil isn't blind to faults. He'll often make note of what others say, repeating them or commenting on them in a teasing manner to try and ease the situation back to one that isn't so stressful. Compared to his friends, he really is The Mellow Companion that the game's trophy suggests, going along and calming everyone else down with his presence while he continues being his cheery self.

Emil puts a lot of effort into his optimism when the times seem bleak, but in more casual conversation he still finds it more natural to look on the bright side. Even the times when he's doubting a happy outcome, he'll voice a hope for one anyway, putting faith into the fact that things will eventually turn out fine as long as they keep trying. This trust doesn't only extend to fate, as immediately after meeting Nier and Weiss he hands over the key to all the doors of his manor when they reject his offer to guide them. It's noted in one of the side stories that Emil had always been that way, going along with the researchers at the lab despite the facility clearly not being an orphanage as he and his sister were told.

Much of Emil's raising was left to a researcher who worked at the lab where Emil was turned into a weapon. Because of this, his social skills are a bit lacking and he doesn't have a ton of familiarity with the world outside his manor. There are a few subjects he's better with than others, given the nature of his education and the types of materials available to him, but he tends to prefer arts over science even with his strengths. Piano is particular interests him, and he doesn't seem to spend much time on writing and languages. Perhaps due to his young age at the time, Emil adapted quickly to Japanese but forgot the majority of his first language. Even though he's lived for so long, his mentality is still, for the most part, that of a young boy's, which makes him impressionable and probably lends to his ability to pick up on concepts quickly. However, this also (along with the number of years between events, of course) can cause him to not latch onto details or forget things.

While Emil often looks up to Nier, concerning himself with how cool and manly the other male is and looking into the type of person Nier would like, the one he actually grows closest to is Kainé, and not only because she reminds him of his sister. He adopts her in as part of his family and it's often her words that he uses to build himself up, likewise trying hard to keep her going when her strength falters. She's the one who teaches Emil to not give up, and though he was already the sort to look on the brighter side of things, it's after this point that his dialogue is more optimistic and less self-deprecating. This isn't to say that he thinks less of the others -- it's very clear that, despite the short time he's known them, Emil comes to think of the four of them as a unit and becomes distraught at the thought of them being pulled apart by outside forces.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Resilient (against magic, but also in general.)
+ Optimistic.
+ Eager.
+ Helpful.
+ Gentle.
+ Mellow.
+ Adaptive.
+ Can identify age, sex, and build based on footfalls.

This place has a lot of exciting legends huh?

[A picture is posted to the network shortly after, an open storybook next to a boy's leg and a pile of similar books. It's a bit out of focus, but the illustration is clear enough that Gengar's figure stalking along behind a Clefairy can be made out.]

There were a lot of books back where I lived, but I was never able to read them all. And there are even more here! Are there libraries like this in every town? How many of these legends are from historical events? It's a lot to think about.

I'd love to be able to take some of the books back with me, when we find a way home. I could show Nier and Kainé! Even Weiss! I guess I have to work hard to remember what I can, just in case.

Third Person Sample:
It was strange, waking up under covers. He'd had a bed when staying with the King of Façade, but the sheer anticipation for the wedding had made it so Emil hadn't really used it. He muses for a sleepy second on how quickly he'd gotten used to sleeping outside with Kainé there to make it better, but as he turns over to smush his face into the soft, almost foreign-feeling pillow, his thoughts instead skip over to how his neck feels somehow...stiffer, how there's something brushing along his face, how material seems to be clinging to him rather than flowing freely. He wants to stay as he is, buried into the mattress until one of his companions fetches for him, but a nagging dread opens his eyes to what he'd suspected was the issue.

"But... Why?!" he exclaims, sitting up and staring at the skin where ugly bone and empty space should be. They were familiar --'know it like the back of your hand' had become a phrase for a reason, after all -- and something he'd wished to see again for what seemed like forever. Still, no matter how he'd hated what had become of his body, being as he was was just wrong. "How could this have happened..."

The sound of someone making their way up the steps gets Emil's heart hammering even harder and he rushes to tear at the sheets. If he'd lost his sister's form, there was no telling what else he'd lost, and if he no longer had a firmer grasp on magic... Finally the cloth rips in his shaking hands and he barely manages to get a strip sufficiently covering his eyes before the door to the room opens. It wasn't Kainé -- he didn't need the lack of heels clicking against the floor to tell that the woman's probable build was off from that of his friend's -- but it wasn't a Shade either. Had her tone not been so warm, Emil might have been more on guard. As it was, the room was too much that of a home and her words brought back a sense of...motherhood. "Emil, honey, it's time for you to go! Oh, you've grown up so fast..."

He couldn't remember the last time someone had been so sincere. He'd had those that cared for him, of course, but even then there had been a sense of duty about it. Despite the shock of his body and the unfamiliar setting, Emil can feel his shoulders relaxing, and he only checks the security of his blindfold once more before replying, "Where am I going?"

"On your Pokemon adventure! Today's the day!"

An adventure? He'd already been on one, before waking up in this place... Well, it was an opportunity to find the others, at the very least!

Character
Name: Sadie
Series: Steven Universe
Timeline: After Rising Tides/Crashing Skies
Canon Resource Links: Wiki link

Personality: Sadie is basically a normal girl, in a normal town, where very weird stuff happens. Although, like most of the residents of Beach City, she seems to be pretty used to all the weirdness the gems can cause, and doesn't really let it faze her.

The best word to describe Sadie would probably be 'pleasant.' At least, she's certainly always been so to Steven. As an employee of the Big Donut (and usually the only one who actually works), she seems to be on friendly terms with most of the people in town. In fact, her easygoing and permissive nature can sometimes work to her detriment Even when Lars is being obnoxious, she picks up the slack for him without too much grumbling. Although she does attempt to put up resistance (insisting that Lars clean up a particular mess since she's "cleaned up the last three Stevens") she can usually be swayed with just a little persistence. For example, in Joking Victim she sympathetically allows him to take a whole day off due to a supposed back injury, only to be deeply hurt when it turns out he was lying about the whole thing. Her comments after discovering the truth indicate that this isn't the first time that something similar has happened. Even afterward, she continues to believe he'll come around if only she can properly encourage him. Essentially Sadie is an idealist, always wanting to believe the best about people (Lars in particular) despite evidence to the contrary.

On the other hand, that doesn't mean that Sadie isn't able to stand up for herself. She's very protective of those she cares about and won't hesitate to defend them when she senses that they are in danger. Despite her small stature, she doesn't shy away from physical altercations, and is actually quite strong to boot. From early on in Bubble Buddies when she smashes a stool over Steven's bubble in an attempt to free him and Connie, or later in So Many Birthdays when she uses the same stool to chase a creepy old man (Steven) out of the donut shop. Sadie really gets to shine in Island Adventure, where she takes on not only a giant fish that was trying to take a bite out of her, but she manages to bring down a gem monster entirely on her own; something no other human in the series has managed or even attempted to accomplish. When it comes to supernatural happenings, like any human she can get a little spooked, like when the lighthouse seems to be haunted by an angry ghost in Horror Club, but her primary reaction in a crisis is to stay calm and try her best to get everyone out of the situation unharmed. Ronaldo is so impressed by her levelheadedness (and clearly crushing a little) that he suggests she come back in with him to take on the ghost after they "get the civilians to safety."

Sadie can occasionally go overboard, running on emotion without thinking things through. After finding out that Lars had lied to her in Joking Victim, Steven offers her a chance to "burn him back" with incredibly spicy fire salt. Sadie does initially protest, saying that it would make her no better than him, but as Lars continues to lie to her, she decides to empty the entire container of fire salt onto his donut, causing him to breathe fire, creating a mess in the town and almost choking him in the process. In Island Adventure, Sadie takes it upon herself to "help" Lars by hiding the gem warp pad and effectively stranding them together on an island in an attempt to get closer to him. However, in both cases, she does eventually realize that she has made a big mistake and attempts to make amends.

Strengths/Weaknesses: +Physical Strength: Not just for opening pickle jars. Sadie is so far the only human on the show to have taken down a gem monster on her own (with a stick!)

+Optimism: Sadie always tries to look on the bright side and is a firm believer in second chances

+Social: Sadie gets along well with everyone in Beach City due to her friendly demeanor

+Work Ethic: She takes her job at the Big Donut seriously and is frequently the one doing most of the work

+Humor: She definitely has a sense of humor and appreciates a good joke

-Idealism: She gives Lars many more second chances than he deserves

-Jealousy: She can't stand that Lars seems to have a crush on Jenny Pizza

-Manipulativeness: Purposely strands herself, Steven and Lars on an island because she thinks it will be good for their relationship

-Vindictiveness: She plays a prank on Lars to get back at him for lying to her that could have resulted in serious injury

First Person Sample: [Sadie's cheeks are a bit pink when the camera comes on, but she is smiling, if a bit awkwardly. She clears her throat as she adjusts to make sure her full face is visible on the screen. Once satisfied, she gives a little wave.]

Hey there. I've never really one one of these video blog things... that's really more of Ronaldo's thing. Heh, I bet he'd sure have a lot to say if he were here. But, anyway, I guess this is how you're supposed to talk to people here so I guess I might as well give it a go!

So... my name's Sadie, I just got here, I'm from Beach City in Delmarva and I work at a place called the Big Donut. Uh, my favorite show is Canine Court, I like Hayley Fleet and my favorite donut is Beantown creme. [She pauses for a moment, thinking about what to say next.] Oh! [She picks up the 'gear and turns the camera around to focus on munchlax, who is sitting propped up against her backpack, wearing a green breeder's headband and contentedly munching on an oran berry.] I guess I should introduce my little buddy here, too. I named him Herb, because he reminds me a little bit of my grandpa. He really likes those berries. [She turns the camera to face herself again, a significantly closer shot now that she's holding it.] Anyway, I guess that's about it. Nice to meet everyone! [Click.]

Third Person Sample: Sadie had seen some pretty weird things. Alien hand ships, invisible monsters, vengeful ghosts, the disappearance of the entire ocean... you kind of get used to it. So when she suddenly found herself in a strange bedroom wearing weird clothes, she didn't freak out as much as she could have. "Huh." At least it didn't seem actively malicious.

She walked over to the window to see if she could figure out where she was. Wherever it was, it didn't look like she was anywhere near Beach City. The next best bet was probably to try and find some people. She went down the stairs, treading a bit cautiously in case there really was something nasty lurking around. "Hello? ... Steven?"

Whenever something weird was going on, it was almost certain that Steven's family had something to do with it.

"Down here, sweetie," a voice called up from the room below. Well, that definitely wasn't Steven, or anyone else she knew for that matter. She kept going. She wished she'd brought a stick. Just in case.

When she reached the bottom of the stairs, a small woman sitting at the table in what appeared to be a kitchen smiled at her and stood. "Good morning dear. Today's the big day! I packed your lunch." The woman didn't look anything like her mother, but she sure had the act down. As Sadie came closer, the woman held up a bulging backpack. "Everything all set for your big journey!"

Sadie took the backpack out of pure curiousity, only to be nearly dragged down to the floor with the weight of it. What was in this thing? Rocks?

She set the thing down on the floor and curiously opened up the flap. A small blue face with pointy cat ears looked up from the sack and smiled at her.

"Munch?"

When it opened its mouth, she could see remnants of chewed up food.

Somehow she got the feeling that she wasn't going to get to eat her lunch.

Character
Name: Rose Quartz
Series: Steven Universe
Timeline: Post 2x12 - We Need to Talk
Canon Resource Links: Rose | Steven Universe

Personality: If you’re looking for a dedicated, caring and loving leader, you’re probably looking for Rose Quartz: the leader of the rebellion against Homeworld to protect Earth thousands of years before the current timeline of the show, who was loved deeply by those who followed her. Every single time that one of the Gems talks about her, they refer to Rose as someone who cared deeply for others, who “felt really sorry when they were hurt”, who was able to heal others through her tears and was an amazing tactician (good enough to be able to win the war against Homeworld), albeit at the cost of having her entire army reduced to just 4 Gems, counting herself. She was a strong fighter, skilled not only in the use of her own weapon, a shield, but also a secondary one, the sword, which completely differs to what one would think is the nature of her powers since all her natural abilities are more defensive (shield) and supportive (healing tears), yet she was able to take an aggressive stance whenever the situation calls for it. Despite her importance as a leader, she refused to stay in a safe place during battle and headed with no hesitation to the heat of the battle because as the leader of the rebellion that’s where she felt she had to be. After the rebellion was won, she fell in love with a human, Greg, andwent as far as to shapeshift a womb to be able to have a son with him, Steven. But since both of them couldn’t exist, she had to give up herself in order for her son to be born, showing her self-sacrificing love. She worked hard in order to attempt to restore the corrupted Gems that had lost themselves after the war because they were her allies and friends but sadly she made no progress.

As any good leader would, Rose was a person who kept a lot of secrets. Even to Pearl, who thought of herself as the one closest to her. She is said to have done this to keep others safe but at the same time that means that she was a Gem surrounded in mystery. What is interesting is that others were well aware that she kept secrets and they were okay with it, meaning that there is a chance that she explained to them that there were certain things that they were better off not knowing. Rose also made sure that those who participated in the rebellion knew what they were getting into and that they were 100% okay with either the possibility of dying or never going back to their homes. She was the kind of leader that wanted that her people knew these things and, when she spoke about it with Pearl, she left it clear that there would be no hard feelings if anyone decided to not join her rebellion as she was well aware that it was a very risky move.

While Rose’s actual appearances on the show have been scarce and surrounded by her idealized view from those she used to lead, she was actually been shown to be much more complex than that. She thought and spoke of humans in a manner that’s familiar to how someone treats their pets during “We Need to Talk”, mentioned on her song with Greg how she liked seeing them “play” and how she liked “playing along”, even going as far as laughing right in front of him when he later asked if she respected him and thinking he was hilarious for bringing something like that up. Thanks to Pearl’s comment and Amethyst saying that “this one is her favorite” when talking about Greg, it can be safely assumed that Mr. Universe hadn’t been the first human that Rose had brought over to “play” with over the thousands of years that she and the fellow Crystal Gems have lived on Earth. It leaves no doubt that she feels some superiority when compared to a human and that she wanted to keep the planed safe mostly because of her interest on the way humans behaved and acted during their awfully short lifespans. She certainly lacked the knowledge to understand that the way she acted was painful for him and made him feel like he didn’t care about him at all. However it is also worth mentioning that her talk with Greg during the end of “We Need to Talk” made her understand how little she understood humans and if she really cared about Greg, she had to start changing her way when it came to his race, since the points he brought up left her incredibly confused. While it is an improvement, at this point in canon she still has a lot to go through before she understands and admires humans the way she does when she talks about them during her video on “Lion 3: Straight to Video”.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
✓Leadership: Rose is a talented leader, which means she can keep her head cold during extreme situations to be able to make good decisions. Her strategies were praised by Homeworld Gems, her enemies, so they must have been admirable. Her quick thinking was also the reason why herself, Garnet and Pearl managed to survive the war.

✓Kindness: Multiple times Rose has shown that she is capable of great love. She cares deeply for those around her and she was even willing to make a fountain filled with her tears to heal gems without her actually needing to be there. She went out of her way to attempt to heal corrupted gems and saw beauty in every living thing.

✗Secretive: She kept way too many secrets, so it’s impossible to know whether she’s being 100% honest or not.

✗Lack of knowledge about humans: She doesn’t understand them at all and without realizing she might hurt their feelings.

✗Having to adapt to being a human: Since the setting will turn her into one, Rose will have to deal with all the basic necessities that humans have and Gems don’t: such as sleeping, eating, body functions, etc.

First Person Sample:

[The video starts and shows a very odd angle, as if Rose had accidentally turned it on when she laid down the PokeGear while looking through the backpack she was given. Her Pokémon, a Cleffa, looks quite impatient and ready to start their journey. Rose looks at it and laughs a little.]

You seem very excited about starting this trip, aren’t you? You’re so adorable… I still have to name you. Names are a very important after all. I’ll have to make sure I give you a good one.

[The Cleffa starts jumping around, clearly happy at the idea of having a name. But it also looks like it can’t wait to head towards the tall grass and make new friends.]

Just let me see what this bag has and we’ll get going. There are so many things that I don’t really know what they are for… I assume these are clothes… Humans change them every now and then, don’t they? Now I’m supposed to do that too.

[Rose just holds the Breeder’s clothes for a moment before sighing.]

This won’t be easy… But if anything can make me understand Greg better, it has to be this. I just hope I can go back to being a Gem soon…

[She starts putting everything away and then notices that the PokeGear was recording everything. And she looks quite worried about it.]

W-what is this thing doing…?!

[Soon enough she fiddles with it and the video ends abruptly, only to start once again a bit later once she’s more calm.]

Good morning, everyone. I hope you are all having a nice day. My name is Rose Quartz and I have recently arrived here. I must admit that I’m a little… clueless [For more reasons than one, she thinks, yet keeps it to herself, not wanting to scare anyone.] about this situation. So this really is not only another planet but also another dimension…

[She clearly looks very amazed by the idea of the different dimension, mostly because she was just turned into a human. For a moment, Rose looks like she’s deep in her own thoughts, but soon enough she goes back to paying attention to the camera.]

I just thought it would be the right thing to do. Introducing myself, I mean. I might have a little request, as well. Is there anyone named Pearl, Amethyst or Garnet here? Or… Greg Universe?

Third Person Sample:
She knew that something was very different the moment she opened her eyes. Already the fact that she was waking up felt strange because she was a Gem. Gems didn’t need to sleep, so why was she sleeping? Then, it was the bed and the surroundings, so very different from Beach City and her room inside the Temple. How had she gotten there in the first place…? Why did she feel so… small? Suddenly, it dawns on her. Rose Quartz had turned into a human. She checked her gem only to find it gone; there was just a marking that resembled her Gem in its place. She needed to breathe and she felt her stomach start to grumble… That was eating, wasn’t it? Something that Greg liked doing. Oh, Greg… And the other Gems! What were they going to do without her?! She needed to find a way to at least go back to Beach City, and then worry about going back to being a Gem if that was even possible.

Once again, something else breaks her train of thought. There was a small, pink creature right beside her, making little noises. It certainly didn’t look like a Gem or a monster, so Rose couldn’t help but smile at it and pet its head a little, to what the creature made a little happy noise.

“Aren’t you an adorable little thing? You can’t talk, can you? It would be very helpful if you did… You could explain everything that is going on.”

When all she gets is another cute noise, she sighs, fully aware that she won’t get an answer like this. She left the room and after an awkward talk with the woman who claimed to be her mother, Rose left the house with more questions than answers. At least she had the little creature-Pokémon with her, so she wouldn’t be alone. She wasn’t going to give up, she was going to advance and try all she could to find a way back to Earth. And, in the meantime, she would learn more about humans since now she was forced to be one.
