Pegasus on the Yugioh Wiki
Personality:
Pegasus is, first and foremost, a showman. Almost everything he does is theatrical and over-dramatic, even when he's being serious. It's not enough, for example, to use his mind-reading abilities to humiliate and one-turn-kill a duelist he finds obnoxious. Pegasus instead chooses to write out detailed instructions and allow a young child in the audience -a complete novice- to mete out his humiliation instead; in the aftermath, he takes the opportunity to teach a large group of children from the audience the finer points of the game, even gifting one of them with the deck he'd been using in the tournament. Keith was just a means to an end, a chance for Pegasus to show off and get some free advertising for his game. Similarly, when a shady business deal demands that he defeat Yugi Mutou publicly, it's not enough to request a duel with someone with Yugi's already-impressive reputation. Pegasus has to host an entire tournament on his own private island, all with the sole intention of facing Yugi in the final round. Utterly confident in his own abilities -supernatural or otherwise- Pegasus enjoys hamming it up even in situations that should be serious; his duel with Kaiba, for example, was all about him stringing his opponent along before shutting down every avenue but defeat. Pegasus likes being in control, and at his worst his jokey dialogue is one more way of asserting that. He doesn't HAVE to take you seriously, he's Maximillion Pegasus. Even when he begins losing, his phrasing is all thoroughly dramatic, though the jokes and puns are often dropped in favor of outright hostility or contempt. At his best, his jokey demeanor is something he finds genuinely funny; he laughs at his own jokes, even if no one else does (if they do, well, that's just a bonus).
As mentioned, Pegasus has a flair for the dramatic, but he also has a love for the visual arts. Before becoming a game designer, he was a painter - there are numerous paintings of his late wife in his castle at Duelist Kingdom, and he’s painted art for many of the cards in Duel Monsters personally (notably the three Egyptian God Cards). He also has an immense fondness for animation and cartoons, going so far as to create a series of custom ‘Toon’ monsters for himself and gushing about how cartoons are “the perfect life forms”.
Pegasus is tied deeply to the past, both magically and through a very difficult time letting things go. He was willing to gouge his own eye out, on the word of a stranger, because there was a chance it might let him see his dead wife again. When the insane risk does offer a glimpse into the afterlife, it only drives him to further attempts to reclaim the past, including kidnapping, manipulation, and the aforementioned tournament aimed entirely at defeating one teenager in a children’s card game. It took not only a defeat at his own game, but losing his eye (again) and the source of his power to get him to finally give up his dreams of playing Orpheus. Even after this, he seems to dwell on his own villainous past and the depths to which he’d sunk, trying to make up for it; every successive appearance bigger than a phone call involves him trying to help the protagonists get in front of whatever the latest threat to the world is. Even after his tentative redemption, he retains his odd sense of humor; noted examples include producing parodic ‘Toon’ versions of some of Yugi and Kaiba’s favorite monsters for his own personal use, or releasing a card depicting Seto Kaiba cosplaying his own dragon to the general public.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Artistic Abilities: Pegasus is a prolific painter, and can create photorealistic (in-universe, anyway) paintings of both reality and creatures that have never actually existed.
+Showmanship: As discussed above, Pegasus is very good at working a crowd and holding people’s attention.
+Gaming Skills: Even without his mind-reading abilities, Pegasus has proven quite adept at Duel Monsters (he should, considering he invented it).
+Poker Face: As hammy as his acting can be, he’s pretty good at keeping a lid on his actual plans until it’s showtime.
+Egyptian History: Pegasus took a great deal of interest in and researched Ancient Egyptian history and myths, particularly their beliefs about the afterlife.
+Computer Proficiency: He’s no hacker, but Pegasus works with electronics and computer systems at least as advanced as those found in Johto on a daily basis.
-/+Everything’s A Game: Pegasus tends to think in terms of games, even in situations that should be serious. Normally a detriment, this may be less of one in such a game-like setting as Route.
-/+Learns From His Mistakes… Eventually: Making a set of cards based on the Egyptian Gods almost destroyed the world and killed anyone who worked on them? Better make a second trio of ultra-powerful cards, just call them ‘Sacred Beasts’ instead. And one more fake god card. For science.
-/+Curiousity: Pegasus has something of an adventurous spirit, but it’s as likely to lead him into a forbidden underground tomb as it is to lead to some new monster’s spirit tablet.
-Cannot
Take Elsa’s AdviceLet It Go: Pegasus has a difficult time letting go of the past, for good or ill.-Physical Abilities: Even when going on archeological expeditions for some new monster tablet, the most strenuous thing Pegasus usually does is painting. “Physical sports aren’t really [his] thing.”
-Adult Child: Pegasus can be, at times, quite childish and not take things seriously, or at least appear not to. While not inherently a bad thing, it may make it hard to connect with anyone close to his own age.
-Privileged Upbringing: Pegasus was born wealthy, and has spent very little time truly fending for himself.
-No Outdoorsman Skills: Related to the above, Pegasus is perfectly capable of surviving outdoors. If he’s provided with a helicopter, supplies, radio or other communication devices, and at least one skilled guide.
-All My Friends Are Dead: Pegasus has no close loved ones anymore, and is likely very lonely.

Good MORNING, Pokéworld!
[Wow, it is way too early for someone to be this chipper on the network, but there’s Pegasus grinning out at everyone.]
I do apologize for the early morning broadcast, but I’m afraid I just couldn’t contain my excitement. You see, this morning I awoke to discover that some of my Pokemon have been QUITE industrious when I wasn’t watching.
[He steps to one side and makes a sweeping gesture at his bed, on which rest an artfully arranged clutch of eggs in a carefully folded nest of blankets and sheets. A Dratini is draped around the pile, and a Slowpoke is snuggled up on the opposite side. Not saying that the two of them were in any way responsible for any of these, but it was totally them.]
I’m afraid I can’t be absolutely certain of the exact numbers just yet, but I CAN say there one or two Dratini eggs, several Slowpoke eggs, and quite a few Feebas.
[Pegasus turns the camera back to his own smiling face.]
These eggs are priced QUITE reasonably, I think, at P1200, P800, and P500, respectively. And I’m more than willing to trade or come to some other arrangement, if you’d care to make an offer!
[He holds up a finger, as if cutting off some kind of interruption or question.]
Oh, AND one more thing.
[From an interior pocket on his coat, he produces a small painting roughly the size of a note card, depicting the Dratini draped over her eggs in the background.]
Each egg purchased will be sent along with a unique painting such as this -hand painted by yours truly, of course!- featuring your new addition’s parent or Pokemon of your choice.
[He tucks the painted card back away, giving a small bow to the camera.]
I look forward to doing business with you ALL. Thank you.

“Just what ARE you, exactly.”
Pegasus squatted, poking at the small… gourd creature in front of him. It certainly felt solid enough, this was no hologram. And if it were some kind of shadow illusion or penalty game, it was the most esoteric one Pegasus had ever witnessed. The town was bright and sunny, if a bit quiet; and the woman claiming to be his mother was a bit disturbing, but she had hardly tried at all to bite his face off and drink his soul. It was certainly more hospitable than than the private medical facilities he’d spent the last week or so in. The crisp air was a pleasant change from the sting of antiseptic, and the prosthetic that had replaced his Millenium Eye had ceased paining him entirely.
“Boo.”
The gourd monster took a step back at Pegasus’ prodding, looking up at him expectantly with glowing yellow eyes.
“Yes, thank you, we’ve established that. ‘Boo’. I must say, however, that that QUITE fails to provide me with any useful information.”
They regarded each other for a moment in silence; eventually Pegasus stood, slipping on the backpack that had been foisted onto him as he was forcibly removed from the house. He took a few steps, stopping when he felt something bump into the back of his ankle. Looking over his shoulder with his one good eye, he found the Pumpkaboo again looking up at him expectantly.
“No-”
He turned again, nudging at it gently with a shoe.
“No. No thank you, I am QUITE happy without a pet, much less an animate vegetable.”
“Boo!”
“Yes, very frightening, ooh. But please, leave me alone.”
He gave the creature another small nudge with the toe of his shoe.
“I know it’s a BIT before Halloween, but I’m sure you can find a nice vegetable patch to haunt. Rise out of it at midnight and deliver toys to all the good little boys and girls, I’m sure you’ll be absolutely MARVELOUS at it and make some boy with a security blanket VERY happy. Now I must be on my way, THANK YOU.”
Pegasus gave the Pumpkaboo one last nudge in the general direction of ‘not with me’ and turned away again. He had taken about five steps when he felt another small impact -rather more forceful than before- on the back of his leg, accompanied by an an indignant ‘Boo!’. He sighed, turning back around and squatting again in front of the… whatever it was.
“You’re quite the persistent little jack-o-napes, aren’t you. And yes, ‘boo’, before you can say it.”
“Pum.”
Pegasus snickered a bit, looking down at his tagalong.
“Was that your idea of a JOKE?”
“Boo.”
They stared at each other a while longer before Pegasus sighed, picking up the Pumpkaboo with a small grunt of effort. It was heavier than it looked.
“Oh, VERY WELL. If you’re going to insist on following me anyway, it might as well be WITHOUT scuffing my shoes. They were QUITE expensive, I’ll have you know.”
“Boo!”
Pegasus sighed, giving the Pumpkaboo a small pat on the- was it a head?- before heading off in the direction he hoped was actual civilization. He would have prefered several large men with guns for his entourage, but he had to admit he could do worse. The little gourd monster was at least cute.

We would also like a clarification on Pegasus's canonpoint of choice, as we feel the canonpoint listed is overly broad and does not clearly identify the point of canon from which he is being pulled. You will have one week to complete these requests before the character is available again.

Personality:
Pegasus was born into a wealthy, privileged family; he attended high-class parties and functions from a young age, and it's highly unlikely he ever found himself in want or heard the word 'no' more than occasionally. He's a man who's used to getting what he wants, and concerns like empathy, legality, and common sense aren't always enough to stop him. He fell in love with a girl named Cecilia at a very young age, marrying at 17 or 18; his love and infatuation driving him into a deep depressive state after his wife died of a sudden illness. His depression drove him to travel to Egypt, where a chance encounter offered him the possibility of seeing Cecelia again. This tenuous offer was enough for Pegasus to gouge out his own eye; the brief glimpse into the afterlife it offered only pushing him to further desperation. Death had been the one thing to deny Pegasus something he cared about. His newfound magical ability only compounded the privilege of his upbringing, making it easier and easier to rationalize terrible things. His inability to let go of Cecelia pushed him to blackmail and kidnapping as part of his plan to resurrect her; using his powers to steal numerous souls of people close to those he needed to manipulate. He did this without apparent remorse, secure in the knowledge that he could do whatever he wanted and that it would be fine as long as he got what he wanted. For example, he took great glee in forcing his targets Yugi and Kaiba into a winner-take-all duel for the fates of their kidnapped loved ones. It wasn't until he was beaten and forcibly confronted with consequences to his actions -the painful removal of his Millennium Eye and the powers it granted- that he showed any kind of regret.
Despite (or because of) the gusto with which he had thrown himself into villainy, Pegasus has almost dedicated his life since to making up for his misdeeds. Every appearance since his initial defeat has involved him making an effort to help the heroes get in front of the Apocalypse du jour. He managed to warn Yugi about the impending threat of Dartz and the Great Leviathan despite their personal enmity, and ten years later he provided Duel Academy with critical information about the Society of Light, as well as the resources needed to rescue the Academy from a parallel dimension the year after. Even before his defeat at Yugi's hands, Pegasus drew a line at actions that would cause widespread damage or harm those not directly in his way; when he received premonitions that a set of cards he had created would lead to worldwide ruin, he took steps to hide them as safely as he could with the aid of Ishizu Ishtar and her own magical foresight. Pegasus also apparently successfully mended fences with the Kaiba brothers, at least enough to maintain a working business relationship: Pegasus is still a successful CEO, after all. Aside from his work with Kaiba's Duel Academy, they cooperated on a project to print and launch a new set of cards into space, and Pegasus' company has printed at least one card rumored to have been created by Kaiba himself.
A great part of Pegasus' success in business is his showmanship. Almost every public appearance, and quite a few private ones, are a chance to put on a show or at least show off. This can be a way of masking his true intentions; the lavish spectacle of the Duelist Kingdom tournament, for example, was all a smokescreen for his plan to take over KaibaCorp and claim Yugi's Millennium Puzzle. His penchant for drama can also be a not-entirely-subtle way of asserting dominance over the situation or other people. He doesn't HAVE to take you seriously, because he's Maximillion Pegasus; he's richer than you, a better duelist and more powerful than you, and things are going to work out exactly how he wants them to anyway, so why not have a little fun? Notably, his duel with Seto Kaiba was almost entirely Pegasus showing off his mind-reading abilities and jerking Kaiba around for daring to not believe in them. Over-dramatically feigned incompetence used to set up "surprise" comebacks and hammy jokes only stopped -briefly- when it came time to deliver the finishing blow and rub Kaiba's nose in his failure. A duel with "Bandit" Keith Howard, before the events of canon, saw Pegasus take it even further; rather than duel Keith himself, Pegasus read his mind and wrote out a one-turn-kill counter for his planned tactics and allowed a complete novice to defeat Keith. There was no real reason for this. Keith rubbed Pegasus the wrong way, so Pegasus took the chance to show off at the expense of Keith's utter humiliation.
This flair for the dramatic can also serve the more innocent purposes of garnering attention or just indulging Pegasus' (admittedly slightly twisted) sense of humor. After the duel with Bandit Keith mentioned above, for example, Pegasus used the opportunity to teach a group of children from the audience -on camera, of course- how to play Duel Monsters. He even went as far as gifting one of them with Pegasus' own personal deck from the tournament after hearing that he couldn't afford one of his own. Pegasus enjoys jokes, at least when things are going his way, and goes as all-out with them as with anything else. The underground path to a secret "graveyard" arena in Duelist Kingdom, for example, was not only dressed with realistic coffins and skeletons, but a trap which released an inflatable boulder equipped with an internal speaker to give every impression that it was about to crush anyone unfortunate enough to trigger it. Again, this served no real purpose besides spooking tournament contestants. Similarly, the order of the tournament finals were determined by randomly-assigned letters distributed in replicas of Pegasus' Millennium Eye, planted inside the finalists' soup the night before the finals. For good or ill, dramatics and bad jokes are Pegasus' primary means of connecting with others; he's capable of being serious when things are dire -he's quite earnest when warning Yugi about Dartz, for example, and begins losing his temper when Yugi figures out a way around his telepathy- but his default response is almost always some manner of quip. Despite this, he is a competent manipulator even without the aid of psychic abilities, picking out obvious weaknesses and buttons and using them to his advantage. During their duel, he used Seto Kaiba's loyalty to his prized Blue-Eyes White Dragons to provoke an attack at an inopportune moment and spring the trap that ended the game, for example.
Unsurprisingly, Pegasus often comes across as quite immature. His upbringing meant he rarely had to struggle, and his wealth gave him the casual power to not take things seriously, as discussed above. The result is someone who frequently indulges childish whims, making it difficult to connect with others (at least other adults). He has no actual friends that we see in canon, only business associates and employees. His only real joys in life seem to come from dueling, his art, and cartoons, which he'll discuss at length with little provocation. One of the few times we see him truly enjoying himself is a quiet dinner of cheese and
winefruit juice, spent reading a collection of 'Funny Rabbit' comics. Pegasus even has a set of one-of-a-kind 'Toon' monsters and spells in his personal dueling deck, based on his love of animation and cartoon physics. During his duel with Kaiba, he gushes about the joy cartoons brought him as a child, going so far as to describe them as "perfect lifeforms." He paints frequently; his castle at Duelist Kingdom contains several paintings of his late wife, and he's personally created the art for many Duel Monsters cards. Notably the Egyptian God Cards, 'The Ties of Friendship', given as a prize to Yugi after Duelist Kingdom, and the Crystal Beast and Rainbow Dragon cards. Oddly, he seems to need real-world sources of inspiration even when painting wholly fantastic subjects. The creation of the Rainbow Dragon, for instance, was noted as being IMPOSSIBLE without first locating the mythical stone tablet depicting it, despite every other aspect of the card (stats, effect, etc.) being at Pegasus' sole discretion.no subject
