Edea Lee | Bravely Default | Unreserved
Name: Edea Lee
Series: Bravely Default
Timeline: End of Chapter 4
Canon Resource Links: Edea Lee
Personality: Most central to Edea's personality is an extremely strong and well-principled sense of justice. She often describes people as either black (with adjectives such as 'as pitch' if she wants to add emphasis) or white, though we do see that Ringabel, at least, can shift from day-to-day based on his actions. Early in the story, when the man she is working under attacks innocent villagers and then even kills his own troops in order to attack the main party, she even goes so far as to switch sides, judging his actions-and therefore the actions of the Duchy of Eternia, her homeland-to be much too vile for her to remain on his side.
This same sense of justice brings along with it a pattern of brash behavior, something that Edea shares with her father. In Chapter 4, as the conflict with him approaches, both she and he are told again and again that they should attempt to put aside their clashing ideals in order to spare the other, but in the end, Edea and the rest of the party inevitably come to blows with her father, injuring him near-fatally. In the same scene, she shows herself willing to sacrifice the life of her mother for the greater good, reinforcing the idea that she identifies this sense of justice as being of the utmost importance.
A streak of brashness is also present in Edea, and a tendency to entirely disregard her own safety. When the party is captured, she rescues the other three from the dungeon on her own, utilizing a secret passage from her childhood bedroom that her father was unaware of. Without her bravery, she might well have simply stayed safe in her room and hoped for an opportunity to come her way or for her friends to escape on their own terms.
Of course, Edea isn't defined entirely by these traits-though they are certainly the ones her father most encouraged in her upbringing, he and her mother raising her to be a knight. Edea expresses interest in fashion, shopping, and food-especially sweets. She's not a particularly good cook herself, though she seems to like her own bizarre concoctions-while everyone else considers them disgustingly odd. She also has a playful streak, delighting, for example, in teasing Ringabel when she manages to actually turn his repeated flirtations upon him and realizes just how easy to fluster he is.
Through all of the events of the game, Edea also shows an uncommon resiliency. Again and again, she's face to face and sword to sword with former friends, comrades, and even family. Using her aforementioned sense of justice, she's able to face them again and again despite the pain that we do see it causing her-realizing that her views of what's good for everyone are more important than those she has a liking for. That being said, her ability to come to her friends for help when she needs it is also doubtlessly one of the forces keeping her strong throughout the game.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
-A strong moral compass.
-Solid judge of character.
-Martial training and survival skills.
Weaknesses:
-Doesn't often take time to think her actions through.
-Quick to anger.
-Her sense of morality can lead her to over-simplify issues.

So I'm not really used to this technology yet, but I've been told I can use it to communicate. One second, I-
[The switch from text to video was, thankfully, not too difficult. The blonde girl smiled briefly at the screen before scrunching her nose, not entirely certain if it was working-but speaking up as though it was, at least.]
Ringabel would probably take right to it, just like with the airship. Though I'm not really sure who he is, anymore...but that doesn't really matter here, does it? I'm not sure how I ended up in Johto, but now that I'm here, better to make the most of it.
[The first step would be to find out more about exactly what went on in Johto, she supposed.]
I'm posting this because I was hoping to meet some friends. I've been out in the grass fighting with Dim, but meeting some other humans would be nice. And maybe somebody to show me around? Just none of those Rocket creeps I've been hearing about-I'm sure they can't be trusted.
[She'd completely forgotten to even give her name, but hopefully that wouldn't be an issue.]
Third Person Sample:
Letting somebody else fight for her wasn't really in Edea's nature. Sure, she'd occasionally used summons in battle-but now, this whole 'pokemon battling' things was new to her. Though she was far from the worst tactician, Edea had always been more the warrior than the strategist-something that was now giving her a headache. She couldn't figure out what exactly was going wrong, why Dim didn't just...know how to do everything on his own. After all, his namesake had been quite the warrior-somehow it only followed that the pokemon should have been too.
"Come on, Dim, you've got this!" Watching him battled against a wild Sentret was almost embarrassing. Here he was, a Pawniard-something that she thought, at least, should have meant that he was quite the powerful pokemon. Unfortunately, he'd get caught up waiting for her to issue a command-he'd been bred to be a pokemon for a beginning trainer, after all, not in the wild-and Edea tended to just shout and cheer rather than actually issue orders. Edea winced as the furry monster battling her own barreled into him, no doubt causing a fair bit of damage.
As she watched him wobble slightly, she shook her head, stomping her foot harshly against the grass. "Use scratch! We've been over this, haven't we?" Things tended to go better when training against trees and rocks-but then Dim didn't usually have to worry about being attacked back when he was scratching at immobile opponents incapable of fighting back. Her own hesitation and lack of patience probably didn't help, either-but she'd get over those with time, with any luck. That, or end up broke and starving. Considering the latter fate was one she'd rather avoid, Edea would have to actually dedicate some time to learning to be a better trainer.
Fortunately, things hadn't gone so terribly just yet, it seemed. Dim managed to land a critical hit, and Edea let out a victorious shout as the Sentret fainted. "Alright, that's more like it. Return." Holding his pokeball aloft, the beam shot out to recall Dim. Maybe she should find something to read up on this...but on the other hand, she should be able to pick up experience just by trying, right?

Most central to Edea's personality is an extremely strong and well-principled sense of justice.
Another trait exemplified in this event is her impulsiveness. The fact that the black mage had attacked innocents the night before gave Edea at least some time to mull over what he'd been doing, of course, but she seemed to switch on a dime when he attacked his own troops. For all of Edea's training by somebody that was a master of patience, considering his chosen Job, she shows remarkably little hesitation when making decisions large or small. This lack of impulse control also shows in more day-to-day decisions; though she apparently would talk regularly of dieting, when reminded of it by her allies she said she'd start right away-by removing the cherry from her parfait.
Despite the difficulties Edea faces throughout their adventure-mostly due to her betraying of her country and family causing her again and again to have to deal with facing former friends and, eventually, family-she generally maintains a positive outlook and playful personality. Of the four, she's the only one able to construe the death of a son in battle, defending his country, as something to be proud of rather than just sad about it. She also finds time to tease both Tiz and, less often, Ringable during their travels.
Though they are not long in circumstances where Edea has the chance to show it, we also are shown a hint early that growing up as, basically, royalty results in her adopting a rather formal attitude with strangers. Upon first joining the group, and realizing that she appears to be the youngest among them, she offers to refer to the group as 'sirs' and 'ma'am,' and then has to be convinced not to use the title 'lady' for Agnes when the trio ask her not to use the former. Additionally, she tends to be very respectful to those she believes have earned any that she is not entirely informal with.
This respect, along with her hobbies, are representative of her upbringing. Edea is described in the game as a gourmand, which is fairly accurate, especially compared to the rest of the party. She enjoys learning about and trying new foods, especially sweets. In addition, she enjoys shopping and fashion quite a bit, but doesn't really seem to have a good idea of how much these hobbies might cost her-not only burning through her wallet, but also Ringabel's, and eventually even digs into Tiz's money when she needs more to help cover her habit.

Unfortunately, we can't accept your application at this time. In our revisions request, we asked for a broader and more in-depth look at the many qualities that make Edea a well-rounded character in her own right; however, we felt that the revisions we received largely discussed the same qualities in different terms, as opposed to fleshing out and expanding on the facets of her personality that we were not originally given insight into. For this reason, we cannot accept your application at this time. Please feel free to reapply as many times as you like.
