APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Name: Kobato Hasegawa
Series: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
Timeline: Post episode 12
Canon Resource Links: Wiki for Haganai
Kobato's MAL page

Personality: Kobato is the younger sister of Kodaka. Of course, her true name is Reysis Vi Felicity Sumeragi, a true ancestor of the children of the night!

Only not really, she's just a young girl who happens to love her favorite anime called Full Metal Necromancer. She loves this series so much that she imitates the main character to the point of cosplay and pretending that tomato juice is the blood of virgins.

Kobato loves her older brother dearly, though she intentionally treats him like a servant. Making her dinner is "offerings" and even if she hates part of her dinner, she will eat it as long as Kodaka feeds it to her, suggesting that if it's for her brother, she'll definitely do it. She's got a huge brother complex and gets pretty jealous when someone gets closer to her brother. Kobato trusts her brother completely and doesn't have a problem doing things like running out completely naked to hug him if something goes wrong and she needs to cry on him. She'll also crawl into bed with him sometimes if she doesn't feel good or is feeling particularly lonely.

Most of the time, she'll speak in a frivolous, bombast manner in order to make herself seem like a fancy vampire, but if she gets embarrassed or upset she'll easily slip into yelling or getting extremely shy. She does get somewhat possessive of her brother, continually getting into fights with Maria because of it. Outside of her quirks and determination to pretend she's a 10,000 year old vampire, she's a pretty average girl. Homework procrastination, hating hot weather, and trying to show that she can totally do that math problem even if it takes her the entire trip somewhere to figure it out just because her brother asked her to are some average things for her. For the most part her hobbies include sitting around watching TV and bothering An-chan.

Kobato frequently adds on an "evil" laugh of "kukuku" at the end or beginning of her sentences when she acts "in character" for her vampire self. This doesn't, by any means, mean that she knows what half the words she says mean or that they're correct. Ashtaroth? Or was it Astarot? Maybe Asutoro... Decrepit? Descript? Same thing probably.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
x Kobato is young, but she's pretty good at staying "in character" most of the time, even if she's whining about how hot it is.
x She can silence a room when she gets upset with a sudden, unexpected yell. (Usually of "idiot" and either many times in a row or she holds that note for a while) That said, she's got some lungs on her.
x Kobato can make up attack names on the spot! Hasegawa Cootie Touch!
x Determination. If Isis (the character she models herself after in Full Metal Necromancer) doesn't take off her dress, she will damn well not take off her dress until Isis changes into something else. Even if it's something small, it shows that Kobato's resolve won't be broken if she puts her mind to it.
x Kobato is good at long-distance swimming (when asked, she says she does "marathons")
x Special attacks: Vampire bite (like, she just bites people okay), Hasegawa Cootie Touch (it's a little push while she yells the name of the attack).

Weaknesses:
x Kodaka cooks all of her meals for her, so she probably is a terrible cook. (Also probably exacerbated by being 13.)
x She hasn't grown in size since elementary school. Her old clothes still fit... (She claims this is because she's a vampire and won't grow derecpit decrepit. Mostly she's just little.)
x Heat! She hates heat. She even refuses to go outside for a while because there's no A/C outside. She refers to summer as the "Season of Hell."
x Perverts/fans. She doesn't like people who fawn over her. Without an An-chan (Kodaka) to hide behind, she's going to be pretty defenseless.
x Her brother. Mess with her brother or her status as his younger sister and your ears will regret it. It might also involve pushing and biting.
x As a requirement for joining the Neighbors' Club, she has trouble making friends. Probably largely because she's odd.
x She tires out early in the day if she's involved in group activities. (She fell asleep after karaoke onceand her brother carried her home.) If it's suggested she does something while she's barely awake, she'll comply pretty easily, even if that means taken a bath with someone...
x Spicy food. The only exception being a Chinese sweet-and-spicy chili sauce that Kodaka buys for her.

Kuuukuku~ I grace you mortals with the harkening of my voice this morning. I shall bestow upon you the knowledge that I require offerings for a ceremony to restore my access to the Akashic Records from this place! If I don't receive offerings by the hour of the sun's fullest rising I shall curse this town in the name of Nosferatu!

[ There's an odd growling sound. Probably her stomach. Her voice wavers, nerves from the obvious lack of 'cool' vampire-like behavior that is a growly tummy. ]

A-Ah.. I-I require an edible offering! Nothing spicy though! If it has lots of garlic that's good too. The great and noble Reisys vi Felicity Sumeragi will grant you the honor of my presence if your offering is acceptable!

[ She really has no idea how to cook and she's tired of trying to eat berries and stuff. She's not tall enough to reach them most of the time, she has to get her Pokemon to help! At least he eats minerals, so he's usually okay. Her voice gets stronger again. ]

Kukuku, I would also greatly heed advice from someone who has experience in obtaining their own offerings!

Third Person Sample: It had taken her a long time to get used to this new world. A longer time than most probably had taken. Her time spent alone before this place had been locked in the safety of the house that she'd resided in with only her brother for the longest time. It wasn't the first time she'd experienced being pulled away from loved ones-- her mother passing away, then her father leaving the country to travel with only a word to a man she'd never met. Her brother had been her one anchor to a normal family life and she'd tried to hold onto him for all it was worth.

Then of all things, she was the one who had been taken away from him. Not the other way around. Learning how to live without her "An-chan" was a feat. Still, the idea of having to do it alone was eased slightly by her partner. Her 'minion' as she called the Sableye to others who confronted her. If she continued to act as though she were Reisys vi Felicity Sumeragi, vampire, as though everything were normal, then perhaps it would return that way.

"An-chan.."

Kobato whined his name softly, startling her gemstone-eyed friend in the silence as they tried to sleep. She was pretty good about keeping quiet about her brother a little more now that she'd gone quite some time without him, but sometimes at night she couldn't sleep. She missed him, and that wasn't going to change.

Sableye moved over to sleep closer to her. This was one of the reasons she didn't like to keep him in a Pokeball all the time. He reminded her of her stuffed rabbit from back home sometimes, but other times he just reminded her of the one thing that none of the Neighbor's Club thought they'd had back home: a friend.

Kobato smiled at him, earnestly for a few seconds, then her lips pulled wider as she curled them into a smirk.

"Kukuku, I shall heed your concerns, great servant of the noble lords of the night."

Character
Name: Rider (Alexander the Great, aka Iskander)
Series: Fate/Zero
Timeline: Before the final battle with Archer.
Canon Resource Links: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Rider_(Fate/Zero)

Personality: When speaking with Saber and Archer about what it means to be a king, Rider says that a king must embody the envy and admiration of all of his people. A king must be the one who is louder than anyone else, greedier than anyone else, angrier and more forceful than anyone else, and more ambitious than anyone else. In doing so, he provides an example for his subjects to aspire to become, and their will empowers him. This is, in essence, Rider in a nutshell: He's boisterous, brash, and overbearing, but all of his seemingly-reckless acts have a purpose. He tries to make those around him into the best they can be, and then better than even that - particularly his young, inexperienced Master.

Rider is impulsive and proud, who believes in dreaming impossible dreams because in the pursuit of those dreams, people will reach heights they could have never achieved with more mundane goals. Though summoned to the Holy Grail War and well aware that the entire point of the thing is for the seven Servants and their Masters to battle to the death, he immediately tries to recruit the other Servants onto his side so that he can resume his dream of conquering the world. More to the point, he does so by loudly introducing himself by name - his actual name - in a fight where one's true identity is a closely guarded secret. Naturally, this attempt at unity fails, but impossible dreams are still worth pursuing, and Rider continues asking his foes to join him up until his final battle with Archer. There is a method to Rider's seeming madness.

Rider is an honorable man who enjoys the thrill of battle with opponents he respects, and who fights without animosity - when both he and Archer are exhausted from a joint battle against others, he admits he doesn't want to fight the other man at anything less than Archer's best, and the two share one final goblet of wine before fighting to the death in their last battle. On the other hand, he dismisses the Assassins who fight from the shadows and turn down his friendly offer of sharing a drink, and slaughters them in battle with his thousands of warriors against their mere dozens. He dreams of conquering the world, and when presented with the idea that the Grail could grant him immortality, he imagines what it would be like to conquer all the stars.

But despite his gruff appearance and love for combat, he is not a cruel man. He believes that one can conquer a foe without humiliating him, and that in doing so the conquerer gains an ally rather than just a territory to rule. He calls the soldiers who fought and died for him in his conquest thousands of years ago his greatest treasure, and prizes the bonds of friendship they hold. Though he is quick to dismiss his young Master when he feels that Waver is being stupid about something (which is often), he is just as quick to praise him and encourage him - Waver may not be the mage with the most raw strength, but he is resourceful, something that Rider values tremendously even if the boy himself does not. He even states that Waver is the Master he would prefer to the more talented and experienced Kayneth, because while Kayneth controls his new Servant from the shadows, Waver at least has the courage to ride into combat at his side.

Rider is charismatic with a knack for leading others to victory, cultured and philosophical (he loves reading the Iliad, and studied under Aristotle of all people), and above all much smarter than he looks. He believes in living life and one's dreams to the utmost potential, and embodies that desire for others to follow.

When summoned to the modern day, he is fond of ordering items from catalogs and magazines, particularly videogames (even if his killjoy Master doesn't like playing them with him). He is especially fond of strategy games, and as such would do well recognizing the gamelike parts of the Pokemon world for what they are.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Rider is physically intimidating and an expert warrior, having led armies for the majority of his life. But beyond his own personal battle prowess, he is an unparalleled commander - after all, Alexander the Great was known as one of the greatest military geniuses of history. He is excellent at appraising a situation quickly and keeping a cool head under fire, and concocting a plan based on his own abilities and those of his followers. Rider is a tactical mastermind, and is charismatic enough when it comes to his followers to know the value of bonds between comrades-in-arms. He is also an expert, well, rider of beasts. His personal mount was a war horse, but he is capable of riding almost anything. He is forceful and self-sure.

However, with that self-assurance comes pride and recklessness. While he is almost always skilled enough to worm his way out of a disadvantageous situation, he is frequently the one who puts himself in said disadvantageous situations to begin with. Furthermore, his confidence in his own abilities can lead to underestimating (or even overestimating) his opponents - he believed that Saber's mighty Excalibur attack took a significant amount of time to charge up, so he planned his tactics around that. However, she was able to execte it much more quickly than he had imagined, which ended up costing him his war chariot.

First Person Sample: *There is a massive man looking down at the screen. He seems to be poking at it.* Oh? It turned on. Now how did it... hah! It's like a little book! All the words and pictures, but you don't need to turn the page - amazing! It's absolutely amazing! They really are getting clever with this sort of thing these days.

Then this must mean that people can hear me. I've heard you all talking and yammering, but not a one of you has introduced yourself! Don't you have any pride?! Stand up tall and honor your name; don't hide behind a little tiny picture! Ah, but if you need an example... *He straightens up to his full height; it's a bit imposing even in the screen. He slams his fist to his chest.*

I am Alexander! King of Conquerers! I cannot say why I have come to this strange land, but if I cannot return to the battlefield of before, I mean to make every last hill and valley mine! Therefore, tiny-picture-people, I need three things:

First, I need a mighty steed that can ride like the wind, with thunder coursing at its hooves! Glorious Bucephalus has no equal, but surely even a place like this has a stallion or two worthy of the King of Conquerers?

Second, I need a sword! Battles of the bare hand may be entertaining enough, but that's little better than a brawl!

And finally, I need an army. So to you, picture people, I pose a question: What do you dream of? Is it glory? Is it honor, or power? Follow me and you shall have all of that and more! You mustn't sit and be complacent; stand for yourself! Stand tall and proud, and ride in the shadow of Alexander!

I await your quick replies.

Third Person Sample: The giant of a man frowned out from beneath bushy red eyebrows.

The Tauros frowned back.

"I've never seen a bull like you before, beast," Rider said in a deceptively quiet voice, never breaking eye contact. "But I've tamed animals larger and meaner than you by far. They were proud creatures, whose manes and tails whipped through the air as they struggled for dominance. Oh sure, none of them won, but they proved that they were worthy."

The bull's eyes narrowed, a hot snort escaping its nostrils, and it pawed the ground with a hoof. Rider noted those sharp-looking horns that were now tilted his way.

"So... are you worthy, beast? Are you worthy of going into battle at my side? Are you worthy of a name? Struggle with all your might - try to break me, if you dare!"

And the mountainous man bellowed a challenging shout. Instead of cowering, though, the Tauros charged, lowering its horns with intent to gore. And Rider's face lit up. "Yes! Show me the pride of your lineage, beast!" Nor did he evade, either, but met the bull head on, hands coming to grip the horns to prevent the fatal injury. The collision pushed him back, feet scraping against the ground, as the bull thrashed its head back and forth, trying to dislodge the man's grip.

But the grip remained, and eventually the man managed to wrench the bull's head to the side, forcing it to turn, and leveraged his weight to push the animal onto its side, even as it fought and snorted and bellowed the entire time.

Even then, though, Rider was laughing. "Yes, yes! Haha, excellent! Don't give up, even when you're thrown to the ground! Show me that spirit!"

Oh, he liked this one. He'd give it a very, very good name.

Character
Name: Enkidu
Series: Epic of Gilgamesh
Timeline: Tablet 7, between the triumph over the Bull of Heaven and Enkidu receiving the dream that foretells his death
Canon Resource Links: Wiki summary of the Epic Myths Retold Version | Online Version

Personality:
For being a lump of mud given shape by the goddess Aruru (or Eiru depending on your translation), Enkidu is a pretty excellent pet rock. He’s physically strong, a skilled warrior, and living in the wild gave him an excellent understanding of nature, as he drank from the same watering holes from animals and was ignorant of human society until he was civilized by Shamhat. With that said, he was created to be the second self of the arrogant king Gilgamesh, which means he himself is saddled with an impressive ego, going so far as to challenge Gilgamesh to a wrestling match (tablet II). This goes on until they decide defeat means friendship and the rest of their story ensues.

With that said, it’s probably no surprise that at the core of Enkidu’s civilized personality is loyalty to his friend, Gilgamesh. While Enkidu has the gift of foresight and will think through potential consequences of something whereas Gilgamesh won’t, Enkidu goes along with Gilgamesh’s half baked plans in the end because Gil is his friend and these plans are simply part and parcel of that friendship.

While the civilized Enkidu is defined by that loyalty, he also serves as his friend’s calmer and more rational half. Aside from being the one to point out flaws in Gilgamesh’s ideas (despite those comments being ignored), he is also the one who manages to calm Gilgamesh down at certain points in the Epic - both via dream interpretation after his friend’s nightmares while they journey to the Cedar Forest and during the battle within the Cedar Forest itself when Gilgamesh’s hand hesitates before slaying the monster Humbaba. (This is the point where Enkidu pretty much ignores his own advice for the sake of being a loyal friend, it’s sort of the thing that gets him killed.)

For all of his being the calm half of the duo that is Enkidu and Gilgamesh who has the ability of forethought, Enkidu’s biggest personality flaw is that he will get too caught up in the moment and make stupid decisions. This is evident in the Cedar Forest where the monster Humbaba begs Gilgamesh for his life, it is Enkidu who is encouraging his friend to slay the monster - the same Enkidu who pointed out that this journey was a bad plan and that killing Humbaba would get them both into serious trouble. It happens again when, after slaying the Bull of Heaven, Enkidu is so caught up in the joy of victory that he throws the hindquarters of the bull into the face of the war goddess Ishtar, without considering the consequences of such an action. The matter of stubbornness also comes into play, as this was the man who said the following: “Let me shout out in Uruk: I am the mighty one!’ Lead me in and I will change the order of things; he whose strength is mightiest is the one born in the wilderness!” (Tablet I). That he and Gilgamesh have an epic wrestling match in Enkidu’s attempt to follow through with his words speaks volumes not only to that, but to Enkidu’s ability to live up to his words. It’d be admirable if it didn’t occasionally lead to worryingly long fight sessions.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths
*Physical prowess. You do not live in the wilderness and defeat mythical beings and not lack muscles or the ability to defend yourself.
*Dream interpretation: this may sound absolutely bizarre until you realize that Enkidu is the only male in ancient Mesopotamian literature to be able to do this - all others are women. It serves as a means of calming his friend as well as highlighting the fact he is actually quite smart.
*Following through on his words: when Enkidu says that he’ll do something, such as challenge Gilgamesh in tablet I, you can be damned sure he will do it. He has an amazing confidence in himself that is unflappable in the face of anything, surpassing even his friend. He boasts a little less than Gilgamesh does as well.

Weaknesses
*Co-dependence: Once Gilgamesh shows up in the picture, Enkidu sort of ignores everything else. Separating Enkidu’s personality from Gil’s is almost impossible (as I indeed learned doing this app)
*Over enthusiasm/getting caught up in the moment. Simply put: Enkidu is the sort of guy who advises you not to do that kegstand, but when you actually do it he’s the one cheering you on the loudest, and then joining you.
*Loyalty. It may be at the core of his personality, but it can also be his biggest vice if you know how to manipulate it properly. If he trusts you, he might not even notice.
*Stubbornness - he is Gilgamesh’s second self. They share some personality traits, this being the biggest.
*His speech, being from the 2000s BCE, is fairly antiquated in style.

[Well frankly, what’s an ancient Mesopotamian to know about technology? Not much, and so all looking at the screen are going to have a very interesting shot of Enkidu’s chest and not much else]

Gods above and below, this beyond a farce. I can find no man on these plains and yet--

[there’s a pause, followed by the low rumble of an equally frustrated rhyhorn] Yes, the farce does include you. I find it concerning that you can not speak like guardian spirits can, but are capable of responding to my words and find this all too smooth rock that you are insistent I prod the components of - to what end I don’t know -

[Enkidu is cut off again by the rhyhorn’s noise, this time louder and angrier. Not to be outdone, Enkidu mimics the noise to stunning effect.] I wouldn’t hesitate to wrestle you again beast, remember that.

Now unless there was a true point to this thing, I suggest we resume our travels. There must be be a city nearby that might include some rational explanation for this, well, everything--

Third Person Sample:

The grassland that surrounded Enkidu was not the steppe he had roamed before entering the city of great walled Uruk. There was no difference in the all-encompassing grassland, or even in the scent of the air - a familiar mix of dust and sweet grass coming in from all directions - but Enkidu knew that this wilderness was not the one he had roamed when he was first created and ran alongside the antelope and deer. The faint music he could hear was a new thing to encounter in the wilderness and it lacked the bright drums and cheerful flutes that played in Uruk on festival days.

Enkidu stood still, trying to pinpoint where the music was coming from. After all, music must come from some instrument, such instrument must be played by a man, and if there is a man there may be a city nearby. It was no bother to travel on foot, and he walked without complaint, ears strained to determine where the music grew louder in volume and eyes taking in the new wilderness before him. Where he expected the animals of the plains that he had long ran beside - the swift gazelle, the lumbering bear, vicious lion - he found himself catching glimpses of new creatures that were both familiar and alien to him. The novelty would be exciting if he wasn’t so insistent on finding the source of the music, which, as he walked, he began to realize came not from one location but from all around him.

That gave Enkidu pause. If there was no source, then this wilderness had just proven itself stranger than it’s animals. But he could deal with such strangeness, even if facing it on his own. After all, was he not Enkidu, who was made by the great goddess Aruru, who had slayed the monster Humbaba and defeated the Bull of Heaven? To travel through such land, even with it’s music and strange monsters, was merely the path to a greater adventure. He would simply traverse this wilderness until he ran across someone who had a greater understanding of it than he did. Until then, he would do as he did before entering civilization - sleeping on the steppe under the stars and drinking from the same watering holes as the new, strange animals, far from the cities of men.

Character
Name: Ai Hidaka
Series: the iDOLM@STER
Timeline: Chapter 9 of her manga series, Splash Red
Canon Resource Links:
- Idolm@ster in General
- Ai Information

Personality:

There are three very basic things you need to grasp in order to understand Ai's personality.

1.) She doesn't hold back.

"I'm going to sing with everything I've got!!"

Ai really DOES NOT HOLD BACK. This applies to both her energy level (when she's at full energy, she's unstoppable), and to her volume level. Simply put, Ai can't always subdue her voice, which can both stir an audience, startle people in her vicinity, and just present her as someone very over-the-top. Her emotional level is directly related to her voice; the more excited or nervous she gets, the louder she gets, so even when she's trying to practice apologizing, she ends up yelling at the top of her lungs. She's enthusiastic, and when she's determined, it doesn't matter what obstacle lies in her way. She'll happily run fifty laps around the park and devote herself to her idol lessons, just as she'll doggedly throw herself at every single audition in order to realize her dream of becoming an idol-- no matter how many times she fails at it, or how poor her odds are. It's not only a testament of her resolution, but proof of her character, that she continues to maintain a cheerful and optimistic outlook. Yes, even in the face of failing EVERY SINGLE IDOL TEST she's ever taken, she just laughingly chalks it up to being hungry and vows to do better next time. She only starts to cry (loudly, in a public park) when she fails yet another test and is subsequently told, when she asks what she did wrong, that the answer is "Everything." Still, all it takes is a quick pep talk to cheer her up and she's back to doing her best once again.

The downside to being this energetic is that, when she stubbornly pushes herself, she can wind up hurt or exhausted. Add that to her reckless nature and you get moments where Ai still has things to do, and she can't even stand up without nearly falling over. Suffice to say, she does better with people looking out for her.

2.) She's a good friend.

"You're supposed to help your friends out when they're in trouble!!"

Despite occasionally being competitive with the other two idols, Ai values her friendship with them deeply. She displays the most indecision and misery when she learns that they're facing off against each other in an audition, and actually apologizes to them on the day of said audition for going after it with confidence in her future win. And although she doesn't emerge the victor, she's more than willing to congratulate Ryo. She knows when to be grateful for her support, as she tells her manager; she couldn't have made it as well as she did without her help and guidance, and she's genuinely repentant when she makes one of her friends cry.

... Granted, she usually is the one crying (she bursts into tears after inadvertently startling Eri into messing up her jigsaw puzzle in one of the Drama CDs). And also, Ai is a mini ball of protectiveness when it comes to her friends. She'll immediately make room for a friend even when she's got an important audition coming up, and nothing will stop her from coming through for them. Stalkers? Yep, Ai will be there to escort you to the office and run off in hot pursuit of you if you're late to work. She will also lecture 'stalkers' and possibly engage in violence to get them to lay off. If there's something Ai won't tolerate, it's people bothering her friends.

3.) Don't offer her the easy way.

"Let me try as just myself."

When presented with the opportunity to gain some ground as an idol, Ai flat-out refuses it-- because they would be using the name of her mother (a very famous former idol) to boost her popularity. It's even pointed out near the beginning that her 'only strong point is being Hidaka Mai's daughter'. Ai, however, argues that she wants to become an idol using her own strength, that she wants to make a name for herself as herself and not as the daughter of a former super idol. She also puts her foot down when her manager, feeling bad for her during an audition where she's competing against her fellow (older and more skilled) idols, wants to speak to the president to give her a better chance or when she tries to speak to a TV station for more spots, so there's less competition between them. Ai is very much aware of her shortcomings, how she messes up when she dances, how she can't always get the notes right when she sings, but she is also committed to doing whatever it takes to improve herself, whether it's running, dancing for two hours straight until she can barely stand up (and still she continues), and declaring that she'll do one hundred hours of practice in order to catch up. It's just how she is.

A few more things; Ai dreams of being an idol, of carrying everyone's dreams and of her singing and dancing making people happy. It's why her manager tells her that out of everyone, Ai is probably the one who wants to be an idol the most. It's so much more to her than being popular or wearing cute clothes.

But on the note of being an idol, please please PLEASE never compare Ai to her mother. She doesn't like being reminded of how much she's not like Mai, how she doesn't have 1/10 of her mother's talent, and how much she's failed in comparison. At the same time, she's spurred on because of this to keep trying, and Mai is the one who tells her that as an idol, you need to have confidence.

It would help if you had enough intelligence to keep from being overwhelmed or taken advantage of, but alas, Ai is not the brightest idol out there. The most friendly? She's a contender, invading your personal space, yelling out warm and amiable welcomes, and the like. The most fearless? Well, yes, she's up there, engaging total strangers by karate-chop and bristling and growling at one of the more famous idols, but she just doesn't think at times. When Eri tries to teach her how to improve by getting all technical babble on her, Ai gets so confused and baffled that she eventually winds up being far too blunt with her friend. When she runs into Ryo in his true, male form, she mistakes him for his stalker and can only be thwarted by falling (twice) for "HEY LOOK IT'S THAT FAMOUS IDOL YOU ADMIRE!!" She fails to make the connection between this boy and her idol friend, even when he jumps over a bridge into the water, and then shows up soaking wet. Ai doesn't question it; she's too busy sobbing with relief that her friend's okay.

So that's Ai for you. A bit of a crybaby, a big fan of food (and bargain sales), far too loud, and not naturally an idol, but she works hard enough and wants it bad enough that she's already shown amazing results.

Sadly, she will probably never stop yelling, though.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Energetic
+ Easily positive
+ One hell of a friend
+ Determined
+ Hard worker

- Easily moved to tears
- Too much stubbornness can lead to bad situations
- Highly gullible
- Also not the most naturally talented
- Blunt and reckless

First Person Sample:

Hey, hey, you know--!!!

[ this exuberant, very loud voice is coming from a rather small girl on the screen. She also has one fist upraised, as though she's about to declare conquest or something. ]

I get the basics... I think. Eri-san would probably find a way to make it really technical, though. And I'm definitely not giving up anytime soon, but I've been seeing people catch these Pokémon left and right, and every time I try, they always get away! You'd value enthusiasm in your future trainer, right? I just don't know what I'm doing wrong!!

[ she breaks off with a yelp as a flock of Pidgey take to the sky in collective squawking surprise. After a brief silence, in which she watches them flap off, Ai turns back to the screen. ]

... It couldn't be that I've been being too loud, could it?

[ this sigh comes offscreen, from her Pokémon. ]

E-eh... no way! Okay, then I'm going to try a silent attack! I'll catch one for sure this time! I won't fail!!

Third Person Sample:

It took her a moment to realize what had happened, about the time her Lillipup's frantic paddling caused the little guy to run into her knee. Her knee that was... protruding from the water.

... The water that she was sitting bemusedly in, while the giant goldfish she'd attempted to capture swam in proud circles around her. That was the fifth net it had easily broken through, and she was starting to get the sneaking suspicion that typical capturing devices weren't going to work (and she'd even had to convince a local bug catcher to let her borrow his net when the smaller ones hadn't cut it). Then maybe she had to catch it the other way?

"A battle?"

The Lillipup yipped, the sound somewhat panicked until Ai reached down and picked him up under his front legs. She lifted him to eye-level, then glanced down at the fish, blithely oblivious to the way the little dog squirmed to reach even higher ground.

"Well, how about it? You and me against a giant goldfish-- I bet we could take him!" She'd failed countless auditions and trained for hours on end and defended her friends against creepy lookalike stalkers-- compared to what it took to be an idol, squaring off against a goldfish with a horn wasn't so bad! This had to be the ultimate challenge for those aiming to be the best of the best: The Goldfish Scooping Master!

That was before she learned that her partner was actually afraid of water.

And that was the day Ai also learned the importance of level difference. She properly appreciated it once she managed to stop bawling over the effortless victory the Goldeen had attained in under three minutes, but that didn't mean she was going to give up. No, now she was fired up.

Which was precisely why she burst into the inn room with a yell of "Ryo-san, I'm borrowing the bathtub for the next two hours! We've got some training to do!"

Character
Name: Dave Strider
Series: Homestuck
Timeline: Just after [S] Cascade, before meeting the trolls.
Canon Resource Links: Here's a list of helpful links:
Homestuck on MSPA Wiki, the Kids on MSPA Wiki, and Dave on MSPA Wiki!

Personality: Dave's pretty much a slightly... weird thirteen year old kid. He has a lot of interests, including dead things preserved in weird ways, photography, remixing his sick beats, running ironic blogs and social media profiles, writing ironic webcomics, and numerous other things. Thanks to his Bro, Dave has an obsession with trying to be cool and he does this by so-called ironic means. For example, Dave believes that wearing a pair of shades that came from Ben Stiller would be lame normally, but the fact that he's wearing them ironically automatically makes them about a thousand times cooler. Admittedly, he doesn't always get what being ironic means – especially when it comes to his Bro – and if it goes too far, it can kind of freak him out, like his obsession with Puppets. Due to the whole irony thing, Dave is also a hipster: he takes photos of himself in MySpace poses (and develops them in his own makeshift darkroom) and listens to obscure bands that nobody but him has ever heard of. Like all of his friends, he can play a musical instrument: in Dave's case, it's a turntable with which he enjoys mixing his own tunes and remixing other peoples' songs. He also enjoys composing his own raps which are generally pretty terrible.

Unlike most kids, Dave doesn't have any parents in the way we think of them: he was kind of cloned from two people in a process called Ectobiology. Dave grew up with one of them: Bro, who is known after the Scratch as Dirk Strider. Dave's relationship with Bro is kind of complex. He definitely idolizes him, to the point of hero-worship almost, but they also have kind of a passive-aggressive rivalry slash contest of oneupsmanship with him. The problem is that the contest tends to be one-sided. Dave hasn't ever really managed to beat Bro at anything and he's well-aware of it. Really, he wants to get out of his Bro's shadow and find his own path. This all comes together in a big ball of an inferiority complex. A great example of this is that after everything he's done, Dave still doesn't consider himself a hero, unlike Bro and his friend, John.

In trying to be more like Bro, Dave has built up much of his personality from what he perceives Bro to be like. He tries really hard to be cool, aloof, and totally uncaring, but he doesn't really pull it off well. He's really the only person who actually thinks what he does is cool (and even that isn't something he truly believes) while pretty much everyone he knows calls him out on it in some way. Dave keeps a level-head up until the moment that things get a little too bizarre for him and then he proceeds to freak out totally and completely. As hard as he tries to keep his emotions in check, when the situation gets hairy and funky, Dave's mask of aloofness folds completely. Similarly, despite his attempts to come off as uncaring, Dave makes it fairly clear that he does about people numerous times in the comic, such as when he decided to play SBURB because Rose's life was dependent on it. Still, no matter what the circumstance, he tries to keep the mask on and to get others to see him that way because that's how he wants to be seen. As a result, Dave has a tendency to judge people based on what they present on the surface rather than how they actually are. For instance, he thinks Rose is too caught up in her plans to do anything drastic when she actually ends up running off to go fight Jack Noir.

Dave's childhood was fairly unique. Growing up, he was taught everything he needed to know about using his Sylladex and Strife Specibus. Skilled in using half-blades and blades, Dave and Bro had daily swordfights on the roof of their appartment; they would also engage in rap-offs that involved loading their Sylladexes with dangerous things and using the hash map modus to eject them at them. As a result, Dave was pretty skilled when he started playing the game and ended up fulfilling his role as Knight of Time almost immediately. It involved him traveling through time a lot in order to maintain the flow of events. Due to the way time flow worked, he wasn't ever able to actually change anything, which gave him a sense of futility about the whole ordeal; he ended up dying during a last stand on LOFAF because of it. Really, Dave didn't want any of the things he was given. In his own words, he just wanted to be the Dave of Guy and not some hero or a god. Unfortunately, Dave found himself being everything but ordinary thanks to the machinations of SBURB.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Dave is a skilled fighter who is handy with a sword or a broken sword.
+ He's level-headed in most day-to-day situations and can handle pretty much anything that's thrown his way (except for things that really are bizarre and out there.)
+ Creativity! Although it's not always in the most appreciated ways, Dave is actually very creative. He's good with words, knows how to use turn tables to mix songs, and he draws ironically terrible webcomics on purpose. His Alpha!Verse self is actually a very famous movie director, so creativity is one of his strong points.
+ Despite his penchant for screwing around, he comes through when it counts. An alternate version of him came back in time to save John and Jade and then prototyped with a dead crow to become Davesprite. He plays the game to save Rose. Later, he basically spends most of his time helping Jade and getting her set-up after John goes God Tier.

- Forgetful. Dave seems to always be forgetting something or other. He often loses his place in MS Paint Adventures and sets up his sylladex with traps only to forget that he set them.
- Kind of a dick. Dave's pretty difficult to get along with. He's really trollish and he managed to out-troll Tavros fairly early on in the comic. He's also thirteen which means he can be coarse and disgusting and he likes using bizarre and rambling metaphors that can be off-putting.
-Really doesn't think highly of himself. He knows he's not as cool as he acts and he has a pretty big inferiority complex, so he tends to think more highly of others than himself.
-Puppets. Just puppets. Needs no other explanation.

Third Person Sample: “Jesus christ,” Dave uttered in quiet disgust, slowly backing away from that... that thing before him. Okay, no, he knew what it was because thanks to a giant honking hammer of nostalgia, he'd played the games before. Who hadn't? And in classic Strider fashion, he excelled at pretty much everything that involved video games. So while walking down the dirty paths that winded through the soft rolling hills and the trees that kept stretching upwards, it wasn't a surprise to run into Pokemon in the tall grass. Because that's where they always were.

That and rivers and beaches and flying pretty much everywhere in every cave that exists. So, basically, he couldn't spend more than five minutes walking without tripping over a Rattata or a Sentret. They were practically vermin.

Not that he'd ever actually hurt them beyond the whole “gonna battle my ass off and shove you in a tiny ball” kind of way. They weren't really his interest though. As if Dave Strider would be caught using a dime a dozen Pokémon – fuck that bullshit.

The fact that he had an abomination blocking his way and trying to basically initiate Pokémon tentacle bukkake theater on him and his little bro was in no way better than being spammed to death by all the common as fuck Pokémon that creep all over the place. Dave shuddered as the thing stared at him with soulless eyes. He knew it's name, of course.

Tangela.

Fucking Tangela was standing right in the middle of his path and it didn't want to move out of his way. He glanced down at his belt and the sole Pokéball he had that was actually filled. Fuck. Call him crazy, but he was pretty sure that cool gators in shades were infinitely weak against writing plant masses of tentacles. But the lil' guy was an honorary Strider and he had to learn to keep his cool in these situations.

He didn't want it, but it wouldn't get out of the way.

Well whatever.

He was pretty sure Rose would like it. Jade might too, since it was a plant and she went gaga over that shit. He might just give it to John to see him deal with the wriggling tentacles. Maybe name it something ironically cool.

Huh.

Okay.

“Let's wrap this chump up. C'mon, Brotodile, chomp through his green noodle B.S. like a sumo wrestler scarfs down a few dozen bowls of ramen,” he tossed the ball with a nod and the little blue Totodile just warbled curiously and looked at him, unsure. Guy had a way to go, but he'd be sure to train him real good.

He was going to be the best there ever was. Obviously.

Series: Final Fantasy XIII-2
Timeline: Endgame
Canon Resource Links: Wiki link!

Note: Sometime in FFXIII's 11th chapter, Hope got landed in Johto and stuck around for several months, meaning he's gotten some experience and memories that canon cant give him. This was his journal back then.

Warning: Mild spoilers in this app. I made them vague enough that they don't warrant being linked, but I still thought it needed mentioning. I've also cut my app into two parts just for this.

Hope Estheim | FFXIII-2 | reserved | 2/2

[personal profile] eagletalons 2012-06-30 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Hope makes an impact wherever he goes, whether or not he means it. It can be his looks (inherited from his momma) that brings all the people to the yard, his intelligence or calm, professional demeanor. Maybe even a mix of two, or all of the above said traits, which, believe me, is a far cry from when he was a cynical teenager.

And oh, was he cynical. He was a petty brat back then, spoilt and sheltered with no friends thanks to his easy lifestyle and over-reliance on his mother. All that changed because of painful experiences in his past, and he realized that he needed to grow up. He grew up, and managed to straighten himself out, emotionally and mentally.

Enter the adult Hope, the polite, well-educated young man with a good deal of charisma on him. He's smart, confident and hardly indecisive, making him that kind of guy you look to if you're trapped in a burning building and you need to get out. By the time the words leave your mouth, he'd have an escape route planned out in his head. If you have a problem with bullies or general douchebags, he'd try find a way to negotiate or talk it out with them instead of resorting to blows to scare them off, not only because he sucks at physical combat, but because he doesn't believe fighting or violence is a good way to go about something.

He's also the first person you'd see crawling all over a new device (or ruins, really) and poking at it with a pen, because he's naturally curious-- he wants to know all the things (oh yes, I went there). How does it work? Does it still work? Can it be fixed? Can I fix it? These are the first things that come to his mind in this kind of situation, and there's no way anyone can keep him from getting to work. Might as well leave him alone for the day to let him get acquainted with his new friend.

Hope is by no means arrogant though, as some geniuses were wont to be. He knows he's intelligent, but attributes that instead to his studies and hard work, and doesn't know at all that he's actually good-looking, which makes for some awkward times when he catches girls (and some guys) staring at him. He's humble about all of his abilities and accomplishments-- it's not false humility, which is self-depreciation whenever praise is given, but true modesty. In all honesty, Hope doesn't think much about himself, and prefers to put others before him, showing that he has quite a lot of compassion and bravery in him.

He's also grown a sense of humor over the years. Not something as tasteless as making offensive jokes, or drastic as thinking up of pranks to pull on people every other day, but Hope's subtle when showing off his funny side. For example, he pulled a tiny prank on Vanille, making her think that he liked her (as in like like) before she realized he was just fooling around. Lately, he hasn't had much of a chance to do so, but he used to play little pranks on others when they least expect it, especially if it's a pun of his own name. You never know when he's going to make a smart comment, which really blind-sides you when he does take the opportunity to have fun.

However, he can still be a little melancholic, especially where his mother, Lightning, Fang or Vanille are concerned. When he gets attached, he really gets attached, and his driving force throughout XIII-2 is to save them by researching paradoxes, the past, and even create a whole new world for the people. Heck, he keeps his old boomerang around as a memento even if it's not needed anymore. He's still a bit sensitive when it comes to his past, and should it arise in conversation, this kind of vulnerability really shows.

But there's one big thing that hardly comes up, and that's his awkwardness in social situations-- stick him in a big room full of people he doesn't know in an event like a party or convention, and he starts to fidget (makes you wonder how he did during prom if they even had that in Gran Pulse). If it's something professional, sure, he can do it, but casual stuff? Not at all. From this, you can gather that he hardly ever makes the first move when making-- or attempting to make new friends. But when he makes friends, he stays loyal to them forever, and that's more important, isn't it?

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
He's smart. Freakishly smart. He jumped several levels while in school, which most likely led to early graduation in both high school and college. He has an affinity for science and machines and was able to get a few of them up and running even as a child, so it's not surprising that he was the one who made Serah and Noel's lives easier (and harder, in a way) with inventions and findings. Not to mention he became director of the best research unit of the Academy at about 24 (possibly even younger with the way he commands everything), and is regarded as the de facto boss of the whole institute.

Hope is very clearly an academic who works with his hands only when machines and robotics are involved. Yes, yes, it's pretty weird that magic and science would come together, but their link is Hope's mind.

In another side of strength, he's not the scrawny, squishy kid he used to be. He can throw a boomerang and have it pack a wallop, and even leap from an airship onto the back of another one that's below it while they're both flying. It's clear that he's learned quite a lot while growing up, and he can stand a bit of hurt now.

Weaknesses:
He's not as powerful as he used to be in terms of magic and superpowers. He may have learned a lot and has enough swag to hop airships and build whole cities, but he's nowhere on par with the likes of Snow, Lightning or Noel in terms of physical strength. Hit him hard enough and he'll fall.

Other weaknesses are already present in his personality section, so it's a bit redundant to place them here.

Pokémon Information
Affiliation: Breeder
Starter: Squirtle
Password: Raspberry... lemonade. That sounds mildly gross ._.

Samples
First Person Sample: Note: Pretend he's been around for a week.

... Good morning everyone. [Well, it doesn't quite look like a good morning for him-- his Squirtle can be heard in the background whinging and complaining, and he's got some Pokéfood in his hair. Whoops.]

I've mentioned it earlier, but I've been here before. It's just that it seems my role has changed-- it seems instead of just the Trainer Handbook, I also have a guide to breeding and a notebook which definitely makes me a Breeder now.

You see, the last time I've been here, I was a Trainer instead, so most of my time was dedicated to training so I could challenge Gym Leaders. Obviously, my role's been changed now, so I'm looking for a foothold in this by addressing fellow Breeders.

To start: How did you start off? How are you doing now?

Secondly, I'm looking for a female Pokémon I can raise alongside Alexander-- my Squirtle-- so that when the time comes I can try and... well, breed them. [Looks sheepish, especially when the Squirtle kind of notices that he's being talked about and starts staring at him from offscreen.] ... Don't look at me like that, Alexander.

... In any case, I've never had any of my Pokémon deliver eggs to me, so I'm trying to take small steps here. If anyone has an extra egg that needs a home, I'll be happy to take it.

Third Person Sample:
It was like riding a hoverbike all over again, nevermind the fact that Hope had crashed the very first hoverbike he used back when he was just a teenager. But it was the meaning behind the quote-- he still knew how to navigate the streets, forests and plains of Johto.

... Well, he just needed to get used to it again. He did know how to survive in Gran Pulse's wilderness, and he was extremely glad for the experience his non-stop traveling gave him but other aspects? Pokémon battles? The local currency? Pokémon themselves? Hope needed to relearn.

Especially when he was being accompanied by a Squirtle. This was familiar, yet not, because this one was not quite like his first-- this new Squirtle was far more active than his predecessor, and it showed with how it took in its surroundings. Right now, it was exploring every bush, rock, nook and cranny of their makeshift camp by Route 29, whereas the first Squirtle named Alexander would have been lying on its shell and generally being lazy. Honestly, it reminded Hope of himself as a young teen wandering about Gran Pulse, curious about everything and anything, and he smiled a little at the memory.

"If you find something interesting, bring it back here. I would like to study it," he called out to his small companion, making sure it remembered that he was still there. Predictably, it grunted in its own language and kept on snooping around. "Be careful."

He sighed, tapping a finger against his turned-off Gear. Hope would be lying if he said he didn't miss the old Alexander (or even the actual summon, the basis for the Squirtles' name, but he'd gotten over the loss of his magic years ago). He really, really did, as his old Pokémon was good company way back then. But now, Hope knew, it couldn't be helped, and he needed to do what he could to survive. It was a good thing he already had experience.

Name: Tavros Nitram
Series: Homestuck
Timeline: After the Tavrisprite incident.
Canon Resource Links: http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Tavros_Nitram
http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6

Personality: The first thing you would probably notice about Tavros' personality is that he a extremely shy; you could almost say cripplingly so, ignoring the obvious jab at his paralysis. His people skills are nonexistent, and he is very awkward and rather quiet when around people, friends included, though he is a lot more confident around Gamzee, not quite faltering so much in his conversations with him as much as he does other people. In person and in real life, he speaks in a shy and faltering manner, with lots of 'Uh's' and 'Um's' coating his speech; he generally comes off as very unsure and nervous a lot of the time, and this is because he has confidence issues. Lots, and lots of confidence issues.

He isn't confident in anything he does, always second guessing himself, avoiding conflict when and where possible at all times. He has very low self-esteem and definitely tends to feel inferior to the other trolls. In a way, he even looks up to some of the ones that are mean to him, even Vriska, as he wishes he could be more like them. He is very much a pushover when it comes to actual conflict, too, easily agreeing with jabs against him because he knows that they're true. When it comes to things that are actually true, that is. Because despite all of this, he has shown that he can stand up to people when it's taken too far. For example, he absolutely refused to apologize to Vriska when she told him to apologize for being a cripple- which was caused by her in the first place, to boot.

This shows that Tavros does have something of a bullshit-ometer, meaning that sometimes he actually does stand up for himself, however rare. It just takes a lot of antagonism and ridiculousness for it to really show. But even the way Tavros stands up for himself is nothing special, and he wasn't actually able to make Vriska stop antagonizing him for long- or at all, really, as it inevitably lead to more antagonism because of the fact that he is just so horrendously bad at actually standing up for himself even when he does try.

To compensate for these issues, at the suggestion of one Kanaya Maryam, Tavros made up an imaginary friend called Rufio, who is supposed to be Tavros’s confidence and self esteem personified. He based it on a character from his favorite fairytale, Pupa Pan (the Troll equivelant of Peter Pan). This actually didn't end up helping at all, because as it turned out, simply giving a name to your self esteem and pretending it's a character out of a fairytale doesn't actually magically give you self esteem. If anything, this was just a coping mechanism to make himself feel better about not having any in the first place. And it really just shows how childish Tavros is at heart, that he would do this in the first place and hope it worked; though he can fully admit that it doesn't.

Underneath his insecurity and lack of confidence, Tavros is a very sweet and caring person. It is pretty much nearly impossible to make him mad or offend him, as he's both too nice as well as a bit too timid to reach that point. Even despite his confidence issues, making friends is one of Tavros's favorite things, and he always has a pretty enthusiastic greeting when initiating conversations, and he's usually nice to everyone he talks to. He even tries to be nice to the ones he doesn't actually like. Which ends up getting him walked on more. Most of the trolls tend to find him weak, and even though he tries getting along with most of them, there are only a few he can actually say are his friends (even though he would claim they are all his friends). His best friend is without a doubt, Gamzee Makara, though he and Aradia were definitely very close before she died, though the two of them drifted apart after this.

Saying that Tavros is never awkward around his close friends though, would not be accurate. As comfortable as he feels about being around his best bro, it's also clear that a part of him finds Gamzee just a bit weird. But then again, it's safe to say that a lot of people find Gamzee weird. But Tavros sticks by him anyway, and tends to ignore some of Gamzee's quirkiness. However, even Tavros is put off when Gamzee makes inappropriate suggestions such as sloppy makeouts- but that's mainly because Tavros is just so bad at the whole romance thing, as stated below when it comes to his failure at confessing his feelings to Jade.

His relationship with Vriska is complicated and he actually tries his best to avoid her completely most of the time, a thing she makes hard to do. But even despite how much he dislikes her, he's usually as nice as he can be to her, though it's obviously strained. A lot of his interactions with the trolls who aren't exactly nice to him are like this as well, though it's most notable with Vriska. Though as nice as he tends to be, he is not above being vaguely passive aggressive in his interactions with some of them, either, though it's not very noticeable, and he's not very good at the whole passive aggressive thing in general.

Tavros is also probably the worst out of all his fellow trolls at trolling the humans, as he's just too nice to do it properly, and inevitably ends up befriending whoever he is trolling, or otherwise getting countertrolled hardcore. Despite the fact the intention was to lead the humans astray, Tavros ended up befriended Jade despite the fact that he was also responsible for killing her Grandpa. It's complicated. But he totally had the best intentions, as he mistook her grandpa for a dangerous intruder. Overall, his good nature just makes it really hard for him to do any successful trolling.

He has a more naive view of the world than those around him his own age. He has a childlike belief that fairies are real, despite never having actually seen one (he doesn't need to see one, because that's what faith is for). This is especially prevalent in his FLARP sessions (A form of extreme roleplay, during which he was also injured and confined to his wheelchair, by Vriska), where his dresses up and plays Pupa Pan, the troll equivalant of Peter Pan. Another reason he is so enamoured with Pupa Pan is that he has always been fascinated by the idea of flying- and not just because he’s in a wheelchair. Because as he said, that would be silly. He believes so much in Pupa Pan and is just so childishly hopeful, that he leaves his window at night in the hopes that Pupa Pan will show up and take him away.

Tavros also has a way with the creatures of Alternia, being able to communicate telepathically and control them. With this, he's able to get them to do whatever he wants. This leads to one of his other hobbies, which is capturing and training them, and he considers all of them his friends. They are his main source of real life interaction, after all. And because he prefers to avoid all conflict if he can help it, and also because of his own mediocre fighting skills, while in the game Tavros ended up using his powers to control the Imps and built his own little army of sorts, rather than fight them. Going back to his FLARP as an example, Tavros is much more of an adventurer than a fighter. Even in FLARP, he picked more of a non-combat class, as he liked exploring and storytelling much more than the fighting. He is just essentially a player, wanting to have fun adventures and not worry about the bad things, even though this is not actually possible. Before his dream self was killed, he also spent a lot of time sleeping, so that he could play and fly around with on prospit, the one place he actually could fly like Pupa Pan.

He is also very into Alternian slam poetry! And this is about the only area where he has any real confidence in himself, as well as showing a more smug side of his personality than is usually witnessed daily. He does perhaps have too much confidence in his rapping, because he is admittedly not very good at it at all. It's also about the only time he'll say anything at all meanspirited, as his goal was definitely to upset Dave with his raps, though obviously it didn't work at all, because Dave is just too cool to be affected by Tavros's shitty raps. Tavros did not realize this though, and ended up leaving the chat feeling pretty good about all the SICK FIRES he'd created.

Upon receiving his Robo Legs, Tavros’ confidence levels soared to previously unreached levels- and not entirely in positive ways, as he had a rather comically skewed idea of what having confidence entailed. He was under the impression that he could do what he wanted, going as far as to suggest that he wouldn't listen to Jade when he wanted to commune with Bec, her dog. Overall he acted kind of like a cocky, arrogant jerk, under the impression that that's what people with confidence did. It's safe to assume that the reason for this is because the only comparison he had was people like Vriska, who act like assholes daily.

Receiving robo legs also did two other things for him, one of which was give him the courage to confess his crush on Jade... which ended up proving that Tavros is so very, very bad at romance. His social awkwardness mixed with his horrible sense of confidence of course meant that none of it went over well at all. In fact, he kind of assumed the fact he had so much confidence would automatically mean Jade would reciprocate his feelings. He ended up referencing his new confidence multiple times, prompting Jade to tell him that just because he said he had confidence didn't mean he really did.

It also gave Tavros the courage to stand up to Vriska after all of her antagonism and after finding out that she was the source of pretty much everyone's problems. With his lance, he confronted and attacked her, while also finally calling her out on some of the things she'd done. Of course, his combat skills were inevitably no match for her superior god tier powers and in the end he was impaled through the chest by his own lance.

So all it really takes for Tavros to gain confidence is legs! Even if it's a weird, screwy version of confidence. And in the end, he really did realize that he had it wrong, and he was still the nice, friendly troll that he always was, before he died. He just really wanted to have confidence so badly that he convinced himself that he did, and because he never had a very good example to follow, it just didn't work out like he wanted it to, and even ultimately lead to his death. But in the end, he stood up to Vriska for his friends and for himself.

After he died, he very much enjoyed the dream bubbles and being able to hang out with Dave and Aradia, create some sick fires as well as just take it easy and not worry about things anymore. In a way, he was a lot happier in death than he ever was in life, a fact he outright stated when he showed up in a dream bubble later, as well as admitting to the fact that his confidence was silly and fake. There was nothing to worry about in a dreambubble; he could have adventures and chill with his other dead friends, so really what more could he actually need?

Strengths/Weaknesses: There is not a lot about Tavros that I didn't already include in the above personality, so a lot of what I would put here would be a little redundant, but I'll go ahead and list what I can in bullet form even if it might be a little repetitive.

Strengths
+Good friend!
+Good at FLARPing. Well, in his own way, that is.
+Very nice and also patient when it comes to dealing with people.
+Enthusiastic and always willing to go on adventures.
+Good with most animals/creatures, which includes raising them and the like. His telepathy helps with that, of course, but he's naturally good with them anyway.
+Rapping- except not really. But he believes he is good at this. This doubles as a weakness, because let's face it, the dude is terrible at it.

Weaknesses
-RAPPING, see above.
-Too trusting.
-Easily manipulated.
- Horrible Self-Esteem and confidence issues.
-Stairs, because of his robolegs. Though presumably he has had enough time in the dream bubbles to figure out how to use them again. He'll probably always have at least a little trouble with them.
-For a troll, he's a lot more passive than he should be, which means he's really not the best of fighters. He used to practice with his Lance fairly often, and while he's decent with it, he's still not a particularly good fighter.
-He is generally pretty childish, considering the fact he believes in fairies and also leaves his window open in the hopes Pupa Pan will visit him. }:(
-His... Whole personality, in a way, is overall his biggest weakness.

Third Person Sample: It turned out that being alive again after so long being dead was actually really hard to get used to. Not in the bad kind of way- though, it did have its downsides. But more like in the way that he had to do things that just weren't something he had to worry about in the dream bubbles. Food, for example, was not really a thing that was absolutely required there. Sure, he could have it. But he was already did, so he wasn't a thing he needed. Here, though, the pains of hunger were quickly becoming something that he was intimately familiar with.

Mainly because finding food wasn't the easiest thing to do, and he had already eaten everything (and shared with Rufio the Tauros) that was in his provided backpack. He had found a few berries, but those weren't very filling. And he didn't have any money, since he hadn't actually battled any fellow trainers. So that was the reason for him sitting under a tree, legs splayed out casually, with Rufio the Tauros sitting next to him, tail swishing idly. "This is, uh, quite a problem that we have here, Rufio..." Tavros murmured, letting out a sigh. Rufio let out a small snort in response.

"I know that, probably the obvious solution to this issue is, uh, battling..." Tavros continued thoughtfully, though a little hesitantly. "But I just, uh, don't think I want you to get hurt. Mainly because I, uh, still don't know what it is that, I'm doing... When it comes to, Pokemon. I mean, it is similar to a game I played, uh, back on Alternia! But... This is also different, uh, in a lot of ways. And also, I guess that... Mostly, I just don't want to lose."

'You're never going to get that thing called confidence is you avoid battling forever.'

It was spoken in his mind, and he looked over at Tauros with a frown. "I... uh, guess, that you're right about that, but..."

'Please don't make excuses. I'm strong! I can fight, and we can win if we work together. Come one, I'm hungry!'

Tavros considered Rufio's words for several long seconds. Rufio was right. If he didn't battle, he wouldn't have the courage to battle. It would just be a weird and frustrating cycle. He had to battle to be able to battle. But mainly he had to battle to be able to afford food. And Tavros also didn't want to disappoint Rufio, and if Rufio felt like he could battle, then Tavros really didn't have a choice in the matter. Who knew, maybe battling would turn out to be really fun! With that in mind, he let a grin spread across his face. "Alright, uh... Let's go, Rufio!" He stood up, reaching out to give Rufio a pat on the head. "Oh and, uh... thanks! You're, really good at pep-talks, Rufio."

'It's mostly that I'm just really hungry.' When Tavros looked slightly dejected, Rufio let out an amused snort. 'I am kidding. I believe in you, Tavros! I'm confident that you can win! So let's go show them who's boss!'

This cheered Tavros up considerably.

Character
Name: Charles Beams
Series: Eureka Seven
Timeline: Episode 23 (After the mission to take the dying girl to the Vodarac holy lands)
Canon Resource Links: Charles | Eureka Seven

Personality: Charles lives alone with his wife, Ray, aboard the ship called Swan. They live a quiet life together, and apart from attending raves and keeping up with the culture, they don't seem to have many friends or interact much with others. Charles seems like a very carefree man who really doesn't take a lot of things seriously. He burps loudly, frequently makes jokes, and isn't afraid to tease people he's just met. While he does give his best on his missions, depending on the mission and the enemy, there can also be a dismissive attitude towards them; he knows that he's capable of completing them, when it's against the military, he isn't afraid to dick around a bit with his opponents, and sometimes steal a little extra for himself and Ray. He knows he's fully capable of leaving his freshly-cooked dinner, completing the mission and still return to a piping hot meal afterward. On the surface, at least, it is hard to see Charles as anything but jovial and happy. Even while he was in the military, visiting Ray in the hospital, and having to remind her of her horrible news, Charles remains upbeat and optimistic. Part of it may be a certain defense mechanism that he's discovered after having seen and done so many horrible things as a part of the military, and part of it may also be attributed to the simple fact that happiness is contagious, and he would much rather see Ray happy. He's not inappropriately happy, and he is capable of being serious in situations that warrant it, but for the most part Charles likes to keep up an optimistic exterior.

Charles is first seen dancing at a rave with Ray, and comments on the beats and construction of the music to Renton, showing that he not only has a very good ear for music, but probably also knows how to mix and create electronic music. He also loves collecting high-tech ref boards, and the LFO that he and Ray use is very technologically advanced, something that he's spent a lot of time working on himself. These are his passions: lifting, music, and Ray. He's an expert on everything that he is passionate about, noticing even the minute details in the music at the rave, keeping up with the rave culture, and modifying his LFO himself to add several unique technologies. Charles takes pride in his work and his passions, even if sometimes it can come off looking like a grown man playing with his toys. He does have an old-fashioned streak, as he keeps an old bolt-action rifle by his side even during LFO fights and likes to finish his opponent off with that rather than his LFO. The rifle itself seems to be more advanced than it looks, seeing as it pierced through LFO armor with no problems.

Both he and Ray were part of the military years ago. Not much is said about what, exactly, Charles did in the military, but it's clear from his excellent combative abilities that he was good at it. (It would seem that Ray was more trained in intelligence and infiltration while Charles has more experience in battle and LFOs.) However, after a particular phenomenon caused Ray to become unable to have children, Charles asked her to marry him and quit with him. He wanted to offer her a better life, and after quitting the military, he became a freelancer, only picking up jobs that fit their own set of morals and on their own timelines. Most of the freelance work they accept seem to be smuggling objects and people, mostly from the military and other more corrupt people. While they do break the law doing so, they never do anything they could view as immoral or evil. (Though, what is immoral can, of course, be up to the individual.)

On the outside, Charles looks like an easy-going man who loves his wife and likes playing with his toys. While he probably isn't as fixated on having children as Ray, he knows it's what she wants, he's very good with children, and definitely would love to have one of his own. There are clear indicators in his personality that prove he would make a great father. He is jovial and friendly, and cares for others, especially innocent children like Renton. None of this is false, but after a man has served as an unit leader in the Special Operations Force (SOF) and has seen as well as caused the deaths of many people, the 'military man' persona never quite leaves. He isn't proud of what he's done in the war, but he does understand the need to survive and kill. Charles holds no remorse for blowing up enemy LFO's during his freelance missions, and when faced with conflicting missions such as taking a terminally sick Vodarac girl off life support and smuggling her into the holy lands where she can die, he doesn't flinch or question. He's seen many horrors, and as a result has hardened a great deal to violence and the horrible things men can do. When the military background surfaces, he can be calculating and ruthless.

It goes without saying that Charles holds no love for the military he left behind. Most of the missions he accepts are against the military. And when another old SOF unit leader comes to him with a mission, he turns Novak down without even listening to what the mission is. It is only after Novak mentions the name "Holland" that Charles accepts. It would seem that, no matter how much he dislikes the military, his dislike for Holland is greater. His other missions, while dangerous and against the law, were fairly easy to handle due to his great skills, but this one mission was one he and Ray were prepared to risk their lives fighting. In fact, both he and Ray swallowed a bomb before beginning this mission; a bomb which Ray activated after Charles was shot to death by Holland in order to escape. Due to his ability to separate his emotions from the missions at hand, how attacking and killing Holland would affect Renton -- a boy that he has come to love and consider as his son -- doesn't seem to phase him at all.

When asked why he killed Charles, Holland told Renton that he, Charles, and Ray knew no other way.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Great mechanic when it comes to ref boards and his own LFO
+ Good ear for music, can also mix some of his own
+ Tactically trained in the military
+/- Very good at emotionally removing himself from situations
+/- Can be very childlike
- Lets his dislike for Holland cloud his judgement sometimes
- Not incredibly motivated to do anything he doesn't have a personal interest in

[ It would seem that, wherever Charles is, he's moving very very fast. He has to shout into the 'Gear in order to be heard over the wind that is flying past him. There's nothing by sky in the background, and occasionally you can see what looks like the wings of a Pidgeot flapping by his side.

He lets out a loud, excited whoop. ]

THIS IS NOTHING LIKE LIFTING, BUT WOOOOO! THERE'S NO FEELING LIKE HAVING THE WIND RUSH PAST YOU.

[ He doesn't give any warning, but suddenly, the view tilts. It's very hard to see what's happening, because everything is going so fast... Everything goes upside down, and then spins back into place again. Suddenly, it looks like he's taking a very fast drop from the sky and rushing toward the ground.

The whole time, there's a grin plastered on Charles' face.

A split second before it looks as though he and his Pidgeot are about to crash into the ground, they straighten out and make a perfect landing.

The feed turns off. ]

Third Person Sample:
It's taken days of traveling, but he's finally reached his destination: Goldenrod City. He takes a moment at the gates of the city to marvel at it.

It's too big. Too industrial. Far too crowded. He much preferred the forests and roads that he traveled on, that little tent that he sets up on the roads... this city... it reminds him of everything that was wrong with Kanan. He'd even really enjoyed all the towns that had lead up to this place. But he already knows that he'll be pitching a tent outside the city in the next few days.

Nonetheless, he's made it this far. And there's something that's been bugging him since he set out from New Bark Town. Something that he could fix now that he's gotten to Goldenrod.

First, a stop at the Pokemon Center to refuel. It's strange how convenient all of this is, and while it is nice to have a place to go rest up, the Pokemon Centers here in Johto still made him a little too uncomfortable. They, too, remind him of certain places in Kanan, and events of his past.

After making sure all his Pokemon are ready to go, he wastes no time in heading toward his destination.

There's really no question which of the many buildings was the Radio Tower. (And if there was, everything is so conveniently marked with signs in this world...) Charles steps into the tower and immediately makes his way up the stairs. He's read enough and asked around enough about this place to know where he's headed.

Reaching the desk of one of the Radio Tower employees, he slams both his hands down on the table, causing the employee to jump in his seat.

"Listen, man." His tone isn't malicious, but there's a bit of urgency. "What are you using to mix these songs?" He pulls back with a grin. "Might I make a few suggestions?"

Name: Hoshina Utau (last name, first name - or in fact a stage name without first and lasts!)
Series: Shugo Chara!
Timeline: Chapter 24 - after "Can I kiss you?" scene with Ikuto, but prior to her music show
Canon Resource Links: Utau @ Shugo Chara wiki | Shugo Chara!

Personality:
The Mysterious Butterfly Ice Princess. First impression of Hoshina Utau is often an icecold and very serious person, who loves to keep people distant from herself. She's brutally honest, blunt and difficult to get along with if you can't handle her bitchy attitude. Whenever something or someone annoys her, she will most likely tell that straight to the person. She does keep her thoughts on her own sometimes, but there's always a reason behind it. Either she doesn't want to say that thing aloud because it'd get her in trouble, or it's not so important to say it. (eg; she didn't comment on her manager's bad naming sense, though she was mostly quiet in her company at that point anyway). She will also stay quiet if she's not in the mood to talk, or in the mood for anything which is completely normal to anyone weird for those who know her. At least her manager thinks that it's weird and she's the one who spends most time with this girl. Then they'll just try to get words out of her by annoying her in purpose, and it usually works if you know anything about her weaknesses - or if you know ways to fire up her fierce temper (rivals is the keyword for that, or even just the name of that one annoying pink haired girl, Amu Hinamori~). Utau isn't completely antisocial, she's just -- well, mostly antisocial, but she does have her own ways of getting around it. If something makes her curious, she approaches it by saying something like "Not that I'm interested, but ...". She's very stubborn and determined, so she never gives up on anything until she gets what she wants. Utau is also a workacholic - she won't even keep breaks if it's physical training in question. Others can keep breaks, she'll continue even if she's all sweaty and stinky. She knows her limits, so it's okay. The girl's super confident too and it shows all the time when she's not scared of anything you throw at her. She'll fight her way to the top.

One thing that always gets her attention is competing! Utau loves challenges - and she refuses to lose one to anyone. If she does lose, she'll get up in her feet in no time and she'll try again until she's the last girl standing. It's okay because winning and losing make her and her radiance grow. She's said to be like a brightly shining diamond without any scratches, or a girl made of titanium, because she decided not to be weak. She thinks it's childish to be weak, so she's hard to herself and other people. If you're a weak person, that's fine by her, but she'll walk all over you because gentle and weak people only get walked over and kicked to the pits by the strong people. Utau is a fighter: she fought for her position in the spotlight so hard, some people would never understand it or anything about her. And she refuses to lose to gentle and weak persons at all, or to anyone else without a fight. She is emotionally mature for her age (she's 15-ish) as she was forced to the world of the adults too early - thanks to her parents who betrayed their children and sold them to a company, where they have to do anything to support the company's goals to stay on the spotlight. There's no room for weak people in the Easter company, nor are those people allowed to step in Utau's way - she'll get rid of them somehow, refuses to lose to them. Utau stopped being a crybaby long ago, but yes she used to be one when she was just a little girl. She had to get over it, to let her naivety go and grow up to survive in the world of adults where everyone works for higher ranks in the society with hard work. She holds no grudges against her parents, because what they did is just the way how the world of adults works. If you let it bother too much, you're done.

Utau likes doing things fair and square, she thinks she doesn't need unfair methods to achieve her goals anyway. Those who use unfair methods, especially towards little children, make her angry, disappointed and ashamed by their actions and also take the other side on the fight. She's not perfectly loyal to anyone else but one person or things that are important to her, so trying to switch sides is easy for her. She's rebellious that way, especially if there's something on the other side that she doesn't like. But then again, it's far too easy to make her return to the bad side if they know or have her weaknesses in there. She won't even hesitate for one second if it's something important to her in question, she just might have forgotten her position for a moment whenever she gets rebellious against the bad guys. Utau is a great actress - she likes to keep her thoughts mostly to her self. So even if she's questioning something big or small in her mind, others won't be able to see it from her face until she stops acting like it's okay. Or she might have a private conversation (with someone who she knows she can trust completely) on giving information about everything from her side of the game - people, what they're about to do etc. She feels bad about stealing from kids, but if she's forced to do it, then she'll do it because she has to. She has to do it to protect those that are important to her. It doesn't matter how much she's against it, she has accepted it a long time ago. She's pushing herself to do that stuff, for now, and she's not questioning the ways too much. It's too easy to take advantage on her weaknesses as she does everything to protect them and all of her motives concentrate on them (on this one person called Ikuto in canon, she does everything for him without hesitation ...Though Ikuto never asked her to do anything for him). Easily jealous over Ikuto, refuses to share her dear boy with anyone. Might tease people sometimes with a devilish smirk on her face, or just says stuff that they could count as sort of teasing.

One of her fair methods are challenges, though she won't give anyone much time to accept them before she's already on it and you better fight for it. If she wins, she'll get what she wants and then it sucks to be you. She won't even hesitate to bring the challenge on whenever she has a chance and to her - it's all about her winning it one way or another. You weren't prepared for her attack? Well, that's too bad, then you might lose. Suck it up and go on, it's not the end of the world. Utau has fierce temper somewhere, not very far, under all of her Ice Princess walls - she yells, she attacks without hesitation, she is much like she'd be in flames whenever her temper shows. This girl can be a very dangerous opponent. She might literally run towards people with a weapon (such as a trident) at hand and not think about the consequences of it if someone pissed her off enough for her to attack, especially so directly, at them. Also, Utau never asks for help from anyone, no matter what. If she can't do something alone, she'll fight until she's strong enough to do it alone - or be in trouble and in need of help, but she'll never admit it.

Somewhere deep under all that there's also another side of her. While the side that she mostly shows to people is her cunning devilish side, the other side of her is like an angel of affection and love... But that's just for the company of Ikuto. Whenever she sees Ikuto, whether or not there's audience, she starts blushing, becomes starry eyed and rushes to hug him. You can almost see hearts flying all around her, she's like a little girl for a moment -- until she claims that she loves him more than anyone else and then she might even kiss him. It's not even a little kiss, she actually puts a lot of passion in it. And if anyone's shocked by it, she'll call them little kids who know nothing about the world of adults... This side shows a silly~ girl who might do crazy things, such as speak with high-pitched voice like a little girl. Or like a very girly girl anyway, she's the complete opposite of Utau's normal behavior with her almost teary eyes when things don't go the way she wants them to go. While the cold and more devilish side of her shows no mercy, this side doesn't seem to have basic morals, especially when it comes to kissing Ikuto who's actually her big brother. So what if she just did it? She loves him. She's a little sister, it doesn't show often because she acts more like a very independent big sister most of the time. This side is much more like a little sister-y side, she might even bite/suck her thumb and pout at Ikuto while she's on this side.

While she's hard to please and hard to get along with, those who'll try it long enough, might get into her softer side. It's not impossible to get smiles from her and gaining her trust takes a hell lot of work. When she trusts someone, she becomes more chatty and open about her life. Utau might even give compliments to people at random from her icecold side too and she always means those things. She doesn't compliment people for nothing, that's for those gentle and weak people to do. Except Utau has her gentle and kind of weak side too, she just pushes it away, but her Shugo Chara El is a prove of that side. She worries about people a lot and she's a sad and lonely person too (which is no wonder, of course, considering how much she pushes others away from and stays alone). When she's alone she might just stare up at the sky with a worried look on her face. She just doesn't show anything about this side to other people because she's got to stay strong and get through every trouble all alone on her own. If she shows any signs of affection to anyone else than Ikuto, it's always surprising for those who know her even if Utau has known that someone for a long time. It's just so rare.

Singing; she loves it, but she's currently forced to sing songs that are meant for evil business. She used to be a girl who sat in front of TV - starry eyed, blush on her cheeks, singing every song she heard... Until she had to start working for the Easter company. She doesn't even remember why she started singing (except that it was for Ikuto), nor does she sing with her whole heart in the songs that literally steal hopes and dreams from children who come to see her live concerts and/or buy her music. Her devilish Shugo Chara, Il, claims a little later that Utau's own song from her childhood are her biggest weapon against anything. Too bad she's currently playing the role of a diva, who works for the bad guys. She has locked part of herself somewhere deep into her heart because she can't sing those gentle love songs right now. Also, while she's a workaholic with physical stuff, she tends to keep breaks from singing (in studio~), especially because all the emotional stuff comes with it. She doesn't want to sign for evil purposes, hell she'd rather not do anything evil at all, so she uses the breaks to think about it and collect herself. If she has to do it, she'll do it at any cost. Utau wants to find a legendary Heart's Egg, Embryo, to free Ikuto from the deal with Easter company. She doesn't have time to waste, so she can't be selfish.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Emotionally strong
+ Determination, she's extremely stubborn
+ Workaholic who knows her own physical limits and refuses to go beyond them.
+ Independent
+ Challenger
+ Actress with a pokerface, she could be your girl if you want inside information about Team Rocket! She shared it about her canon work place and the people working there too. :>.
+ Confidence
+ Singing & dancing might count too, she's a perfectionist at both!

x Caring: while she does care of one person so much that she'd do anything for him, and doesn't want to hurt children, she must hide this side and continue doing whatever she's forced to do by her contract with Easter. Caring about people is good, being forced to do stuff because of it is not good!
x Outspoken: very straight with her words, doesn't seem to care whether she hurts people with them or not, but at least it's difficult to get along with her because of this.
x Loyalty, it's great but it's way too easy to use this against Utau.
x Fierce temper, can be good and bad, depending on the situation.

- Never asks for help, never, never ever. She wants to solve her problems on her own (teamwork is possible, just don't expect her to wait for you, and she's most likely doing it to help someone anyway)
- Difficult person: she can be devilish, extremely annoying, scary, and colder than ice. Diva! Biaaaatch!
- Antisocial, though she does have her ways to come and talk to people ("Not that I'm interested, but...")
- Ikuto, she loves him, she just wants to hug and kiss him ~ Wait, why am I apping her from this canon point anyway ...and it's always used against her if he's around and if people know about this weakness. She'd do anything for him. Alone. She won't share him. He's not in the game, but... She'll definitely is still too much into him and that might disturb everything else in the game sometimes.
- People who are happy doing their own thing make her sort of jealous, because being part of criminal organizations and stealing hopes & dreams from kids is not the thing that Utau actually wants to do. But she'll do anything to achieve her goals, including all these bad things to kids.
- Dishonest with herself, or not exactly dishonest, because she knows the problem. She just won't do anything to fix it, if it's good for her goals.

[The first thing on this video feed is the Zephyr Badge before it shows a smug-ish smirk from Hoshina Utau. She's sitting next to a proud looking Luxray somewhere around Violet City.]

You'd think a gym leader would be a challenge... You'd think. But that was like stealing candy from a kid.

I kind of wish he had even tried to make it a challenge somehow.

[Disappointed for her easy victory? Hell yeah. Bored now? Maybe. There's a little pause while anyone watching this can't read anything from her face. After a while, Utau tilts her head to the left.]

What's the current record for getting all eight badges from Johto?

[She's actually interested in knowing the answer to this, really. Why? Because she's going to beat it, or at least try her best at beating the hell out of it.]

Third Person Sample:
The only thing Hoshina Utau had heard of Goldenrod's Gym was that the gym leader, whatever-the-name-was, was a crybaby who didn't want to hand the badge to those who defeated her. Great. She'd have to deal with an annoying idiot? Hopefully she wouldn't be even more annoying than Amu Hinamori and Amu's friends. Utau made a little tsk sound before she walked in to the gym. How hard could it be to defeat all of this girl's normal-types anyway? Ha, no problem for this girl.

She listened to the girl's opening speech. Oh, this really was even more annoying than Amu, that was a new record. Utau didn't bother to introduce herself, instead she sent her first pokemon to the battle.

"Ready to cry those annoying eyes of yours out, kid? I'm so going to make you cry for your mommy." She didn't give the kid time to answer before she already called out the first attack.

First two of the kid's pokemon were almost too easy to defeat. Then Whitney sent out a -- pink cow? Utau stared at it in confusion for a moment. She had got to be fucking kidding her. Why did pokemon have to look so weird? Oh well, Shugo Charas looked weird too, so Utau should have been used to it.

"Ah, that was a good cry! Come for a visit again! Bye-bye!"

Cry? The older girl made another 'tsk' sound. Who the hell would cry over something as stupid as losing a gym battle?! Utau clenched her first in anger and stared at her pokemon, who had been defeated by the damn cow... What the hell just happened?! Whatever she had used, it hadn't worked on the opponent. Not enough to knock the Miltank out of the game anyway. Could she just burn it right now?

She ignored Whitney completely and walked out of the gym. 'Come for a visit again?!' Oh, she'd see Utau there again soon, as soon as she'd have a pokemon who could beat the hell out of the cow. Whitney wasn't even good, these creatures just happened to have their type advantages and weaknesses. Somewhere inside her mind Utau had to admit that her confidence had gotten the better of her this time. But she wasn't going to lose to that annoying kid again, oh hell no. She'd look for her weakness and then she'd take a full advange on that weakness. It was how the world always worked.

And she'd get that badge from her, no matter how much Whitney would cry and whine about it. ...The thought almost made her wish she could skip this gym. Crybabies were much more annoying than losing.

Uta no Prince-sama

Personality:

"Jinguji Ren... The Goddes of Love must be fond of him..."

Ren is a man that all the girls seem to fall for. He's the ladies man to the core as he "lives to love beautiful ladies". Wherever he goes there's a swarm of girls around him if he so chooses. You could say that he'll never have to fear about being alone for the night as he could just pick one of the girls from around him. So does he? He's often saying things like "if you sweep me off my feet" to anyone who wants to go out with him or wants something from him. It's almost as if he's waiting for the girl that can charm him as well as he can charm the girls. Even if he seems to be the type to have many girls around him it doesn’t change how he treats them. He treats all the girls kindly, even if he doesn’t have time to give all of them attention.

All girls see in him is possibly his good looks and money. Ren tends to act like a jerk quite often. He’s pretty sharp and blunt with his words when he feels like it and doesn’t usually care if they’re hurt by his words. He gets this way especially when he’s bored and trying to make himself entertained, but also when he’s dealing with his rivals. He’d also gladly make others do what he’s supposed to be doing. It’s not easy to make him do anything he doesn’t want to do. He’s pretty laid-back and rather lazy whenever he can be.

He’s the member of the powerful Jinguji family. He’s the youngest son, so he’s not the one to lead the family... but he’s the one to follow all the orders. If his older brother (the new head of the family after their father passed away) decides something, it’s Ren’s part to do it. That’s the reason he went to Saotome Academy... and also the reason he didn’t take studying there seriously at all as he “had no passion” to do it. He was only dumped there to become the a public tool for the family, he thought. He would slack off and not listen to the teachers, wear his school uniform the wrong way, play around with the girls... until the moment Haruka Nanami showed up into his life. With the girls powerful will and words his sleeping feelings towards music were awakened and he started taking music and the school more seriously.

Music has different meanings for Ren. While he truly enjoys playing the saxophone and singing there’s also his past that hurts. After his mother dies his father threw away all the memories of her. All the music the woman had sang, all the tapes of her performing. These were the only memories Ren has on his mother as he doesn’t remember too much about her. In some way, music can be seen as a memoir of his mother that he carries with him. After getting over the sour feelings that he started with at the Academy, he became openly passionate about music that had shown slightly with how he played the saxophone, but he never admitted it. Playing the instrument and writing lyrics had just been “ways to kill time” and nothing else... but not anymore.

Ren can be slightly selfish from time to time. He puts himself on the top and always thinks he’s the best suited for something when he’s confident enough about it. If he’s chosen to do something, he wished to be chosen alone. When Haruka was choosing the one to write songs with at the graduation test he would get into a fight with his long time acquittance Hijirikawa who both declared that “I need her”. Ren didn’t bother to think why the other party would need her... just about how he needed her and her music. He was also one of the people who refused to work as a group when it was suggested, but later he returned because he put his needs besides his pride.

Selfish or not, it’s good to remember that he’s there for his friends and the people he likes. He might not show the feelings of friendship too openly, but he’s willing to help anyone he cares enough for. He also gets easily agitated if there’s someone who isn’t completely honest and hides too many things behind lies. In the past (before meeting Haruka and witnessing how open and honest person she is) he would have most likely left those kind of people behind, but with his friends he’s willing to listen their side of the story and give them another chance.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Confident in his own abilities
+ Headstrong, doesn’t back off easily
+ Good at charming ladies and treats all of them well
+ He has a burning passion for music
- A bit too selfish sometimes
- If he doesn’t have a passion to do something, he most likely won’t do it at all
- Tendency to lock his true feelings when something bad happens
- Lazy when he feels like it

[The feed clicks on with the all too familiar scene of Goldenrod City’s Gym. Ren has just beaten Whitney, so the crying is on. Most people would probably be have the embarrassing moment filmed... but Ren wants to show people how to deal with such cries. ]

Lady. [He approaches Whitney.] Tears don’t suit a pretty face like yours. Please, don’t shed them for this.

[... and with a miracle the crying ends. Ren smiles charmingly and takes Whitney’s hand to kiss it softly.]

That’s much better.

[The situation will continue from here on, but he'll end the feed here. Hopefully this will serve as an example of how to treat ladies.]

Third Person Sample:

Ren had to wonder how he ended up in unpleasant situations. When he had been at home he had been dumped into a school and now when he was in a whole different world he was dumped into a criminal organization. As if getting thrown into a world full of odd monsters wasn't enough. Now he was supposed to be a member of an organization with a lame name. What was with the "Team Rocket" name anyway? Not to mention the outfit he had given... it certainly didn't fit his looks too well. Definitely not something he would wear on a regular basis.

Though he knew through his silent complaints that he wouldn't get very far with just mourning about it. At least at Saotome Academy you could easily at least try to get yourself kicked out, but Ren had his suspicions that being lazy and ignorant would only lead to trouble here instead of being released. And with no way to get out of the whole world he wasn't too ready to get himself into trouble with such an organization.

He would play their game for now. Who knows, maybe he wouldn't get too bored if he hang around. And if thing would get too bad (the organization would want him to do something he didn't want to do) he could find some reasonable way out that. He was quite good at negating after all, especially if there was a female official that he could talk to.

There's a nudge on his elbow. A Blitze is looking at him with a curious look. Ren had never really taken care of a pet, so this would also be knew. Especially since he automatically got two. Of course he knew what Pokémon were from the games (he had been bored enough to try them, he admits it) but this would most likely be something entirely else.

"I guess we're stuck in this situation together", Ren says with a silent voice. "I'll train you well, don't worry." Good thing he had a feeling that he would do well if he just tried. The Blitzle seemed happy about his words.

Now then. Maybe he should explore the base and see what's going on.

And because all of these are very scant and light on details, I wrote my own history for him. Note, I do not consider the spin-off video games or the movie he appears in canon; it's just Savers and the crossover from Xros Wars.

"The story of a young man who punched a giant cock and found his destiny." (no one will get this joke...)

Personality:

The first thing that becomes apparent about Masaru is his hot-bloodedness. He's almost always ready for a good fight, though he doesn't pick on the innocent or people who don't want it or have it coming. In a sense, there's nothing Masaru can't do when he sets his mind to it, at least in his own head. That's not to say he's delusional, because Masaru is very good at overcoming impossible odds. Through his adventures with Agumon, Masaru has come to see the strength that comes when people stand together, so he's very much about exceeding one's limits and developing into stronger fighters through teamwork. And as driven as he is, he does it all 100 %.

That said, Masaru isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. If one looked “book dumb” up in the dictionary, you'd see his picture there. Masaru's grades in high school ranged from poor to “passing”, and to be honest, his school days' focus was more on battling rival fighters than it was on good grades. He also has a killer touch when it comes to advanced technology, and both doesn't know how to operate it and has a tendency to cause it to catastrophically fail with even the most minimum of input.

Masaru is also very focused on living “the way a man does”, which is very much due to his father's influence. Masaru's motto is, in fact, “that's how a man lives.” While this can appear anachronistic and single minded to some, it goes beyond simply wanting to fight. For him, being a man is about living up to one's responsibility, family, and being true to oneself. This is both to his advantage and his detriment, in that if he ever feels as though he were failing in that regard, he sees himself as a failure and becomes depressed. This is usually only temporary, and Masaru will inevitably do what he has to do, no matter how difficult it may be for him in the end.

For the record, he's also stubborn to a fault, obstinate as a rule, and can be abrasive to people who don't know him. But once you see the kind of man Masaru is, deep down, his real personality becomes apparent and you have the potential to make a lifelong friend who will always stand by you. I mean, an aniki always looks after his followers, right?

Oh, and he doesn't like to hit women. That's a big no for him, and is decidedly unmanly. Masaru also does have a pretty ferocious temper, but he rarely turns it on people who don't deserve it. He doesn't abide what he percieves to be an injustice.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Masaru is an excellent fighter, almost entirely self taught. He's in great physical condition, and though he's not very good on the tactical side of things, he's able to overcome a lot merely using pure guts. With Digi-Soul, the power he uses to evolve Agumon, he can physically damage digimon and perform feats of strength beyond that of a normal human, but since there are no digimon in Route 29, that doesn't apply. As far as weaknesses go, he can be outsmarted by those more intelligent than him, but he is able to learn from his mistakes.

First Person Sample: [the screen clicks on, revealing one very agitated looking young man]

Finally. I couldn't get this damn thing to work till now! I've been trying at it for hours!

Look, I'm not someone who likes to complain. But like I told those guys who were around when I first got here, I already have a partner. A follower. They tell me he's in another world, but I won't stand for that! One of you has to tell me how I can get my Agumon back!

Torchic here is nice and all, but you can't break up a legendary combination like the two of us! And there's something else I've been wondering. Are Pokemon related to Digimon or something? I'm not really sure what's going on here...

...

I will admit this little bird guy is pretty awesome, though...

Third Person Sample: "Let's get down to business."

Masaru smirked, as he punched one hand into his fist. Torchic looked up at his new trainer, feathers ruffling with eagerness. Masaru had a better idea of what the two of them were supposed to be doing now, and when it came to training, Japan's number one street fighter was no slouch.

Of course, he wasn't going to send Torchic out into battle against wild Pokemon just yet.

The two of them seemed oddly in sync on this, with Torchic being especially eager. Once Masaru threw the first punch, and to his surprise, the small bird dodged it, rushing in to thrust his beak against the young man's kneecap. Masaru winced, and before he knew it, Torchic was swinging his feet in order to deliver hard slashes to his trainer's shin.

This didn't make Masaru angry. In fact, it only made him more eager.

The two continued to spar, until sunset where they both collapsed to the ground, beside one another. Wordlessly, they stared up at the yellow colored sky, feeling spent but oddly satisfied with one another. Eventually, Masaru looked over at Torchic and raised his fist, which Torchic soon reached up to bump with a his tiny wing.

For now, Masaru and Agumon were apart. Bonds like theirs' weren't so easily broken, and this wouldn't stop him from continuing forward... with his new partner.

Character
Name: Sollux Captor
Series: Homestuck
Timeline:
Canon Resource Links: Sollux and his canon.

Personality: First thing’s first: Sollux Captor is not a human. He is a species called a troll hailing from the planet Alternia, and as such, he has grown up in a society very far from what we humans did. In his world, it is perfectly reasonable for the peasantry to have mind-crushing psychic power; emperors and empresses of the one-party government can be expected to live for hundreds or thousands of years; and if the value of life has been so compromised that citizens will be killed on the spot if they do not produce offspring, well, what other way could it be? The Alternian Empire has thrived for thousands of sweeps and has a vast reach over the civilized universe, and they didn’t get that way by emulating the squishy pink flesh-bags called humans. As you can see, the Alternian way of life is harsh, and it has a profound effect on all young trolls growing up in its shadowy claws. Sollux is no different.

His species has a caste system somewhat similar to ours; a troll is put in society based on their heritage and quality of blood. Except in the Alternian case, the quality of blood is quite literal. Trolls can have twelve different colors running through their veins, and they span the entire color wheel – hence, their caste system is called the hemospectrum. Sollux was born as a yellowblood; since red is the lowest one can get, this doesn’t put him at a very esteemed place in society. And because the lowbloods are essentially abused and put-down by just about everybody, this has put him in a self-hatred situation since birth. And self-hatred is one of Sollux’s biggest problems.

If asked, Sollux Captor would tell you that his blood color didn’t really affect him that much. As with almost everything else relating to his thoughts and emotions, though, Sollux would be lying. Even though Sollux has a wide array of talents and gifts that would make him valuable in the violence-obsessed system, he grew up in a society that told him he was worth less than the ground he walked on – because of his blood. He lives in the troll equivalent of an apartment building, and keeps himself above the poverty line solely because of his unbelievable skill at a few low-cost, high-profit hobbies. The yellowblood stigma was the first of many factors that combined together to form Sollux’s… ahem, interesting mental landscape. But more on that later. First, let’s concentrate on the things that do not change over Sollux’s character arc; his hobbies and interests.

Every one of the trolls in Homestuck is computer-savvy to some extent; they live far distances from one another, and speak over a chat client called Trollian. But Sollux takes this to the logical extreme. He is the token technology nerd in the group; he uses chat shorthand in real life (‘noob’, ‘lmao’ and so on), and is described by the narrative as being “apeshit bananas” at computers. Somehow, this is a good thing. In particular, he is skilled in coding; he can design nasty viruses that do any variety of terrible things, including placing a lifelong curse on anyone who runs it. He likes to send these viruses to his friends as jokes.

Sollux is also an accomplished apiarist. He is Alternia’s undisputed expert on apiculture networking, which is basically caring for magical bees and using them for various computing tasks. He has an obsession with the colors red and blue, and uses markers of those colors to scribble all over the walls of his home, working out plans for whatever new project he is working on. (He reaches the corners by using his telekinetic powers for levitation.) He is very untidy and doesn’t seem to care much about appearances; his room has a deciduous understory of wires and video games, he patches up his curtains instead of buying new ones, and as mentioned, he draws on the walls. Also, the apiculture network produces mind honey, which he just allows to collect in a puddle on the floor; this particular instance may be more related to his powers than anything else, since consuming the mind honey will make his psychic abilities spike to dangerously powerful and uncontrollable levels.

And now we get to the meat and potatoes of any Sollux Captor personality section; his ‘mutant mind’ and the issues that arise from it.

As a character, Sollux is associated heavily with the Western zodiac sign Gemini, the Twins. This manifests mostly as an overwhelming sense of duality in everything he says and does. Sollux’s mind, too, has developed in such a way that it reflects this; he isn’t exactly an MPD case, nor is he exactly bipolar, but he has shades of both. As you can imagine, such complications did not bode well for his psychological health.

Sollux is extremely self-deprecating. Every single one of his friends knows the talents he has (from his epic coding to the psychic powers which can level an entire building in one blast), but whenever they try to point it out, he will refuse their claims with nigh-religious dedication. When he’s feeling particularly bad about himself, he will develop a sort of alter ego; that is, he is still Sollux Captor, but he is a self-centered elitist who praises his own abilities and insults others’ in the same breath. It doesn’t fool anyone, though. Karkat Vantas once called him out directly on it: “What a load of shit, this act that you actually think you’re a hotshot. You know you hate yourself.” Somehow, this asshole is Sollux’s best friend.

One aspect that remains unchanged is that Sollux has this remarkable penchant for getting into stupid arguments. He is basically the patron saint of all those twelve-year-olds you see insulting each other’s sexuality over Xbox Live. He frequently gets in manic arguments with the people who annoy him – like Eridan Ampora – but also with the people who he likes the most – like his aforementioned best friend, Karkat. They tend to have really stupid spats over nothing at all, and then agree to delete them from their computers afterwards; they hardly ever mean anything they say.

So far, this all sounds relatively normal, right? Okay, so he’s an adolescent with ego issues, that’s not so bad at all… but that isn’t the end of it, oh no. Sollux’s issues run much deeper than this. He is massively fatalistic, all to aware that everything will eventually die in the end; he often gets all caught up in his thoughts of doom and hopelessness. These moments are the ‘depression’ to his aforementioned ‘manic’ arguments, and since Sollux hardly ever expresses emotion other than anger and sadness, it is very easy to see how he can be considered bipolar. In-universe, we have a convenient justification for these spots of apocalypse: not only in the social landscape he was raised in, which I already covered, but also an unfortunate side-effect of his yellowblood psychic powers.

Sollux, to put it simply, hears dead people.

Or rather, near-dead people. You see, as one of the perks of Vision Twofold (his powers; they manifest around his eyes, which are solid red and blue as opposed to the normal troll color of yellow), he has the dubious honor of listening to the “voices of the imminently deceased”. This is not an optional benefit, however; he listens to them 24-7, like a radio that he can’t turn off.

As we already mentioned, trolls die a lot on Alternia – and not in very humane ways, either. Essentially, all of Sollux’s life has been spent listening to other trolls pleading for mercy inside of his head. This obviously wormed its way subconsciously into his thought processes. But it wasn’t as bad as it could have been; Sollux was pessimistic, but still relatively normal (he was described by his friend Kanaya as ‘talkative’, a key trait of Gemini individuals). Besides, he had practically unmatched telekinetic ability, even among trolls; it was useful enough in everyday life that he would continue tolerating the spirits if he could just keep that.

Unfortunately, that was when the plot of Homestuck began, and everything went to hell. To put it simply, Sollux himself started a chain of events that caused a certain computer game to come into existence; this meant that, in time, he would distribute the game to his friends and they would all play it together. However, the game was very supernatural in nature, and in order to be executed it would cause Alternia – and everyone on it – to die, except for Sollux and the friends he distributed the game to. This fact was absolutely ineffable; it was on the alpha timeline, and therefore could not be changed. This is important for many plot reasons, but we don’t care about those; it is also important for Sollux personally because of the side effect I outlined above.

As you might have guessed, before now, people were dying constantly; Sollux could handle that. However, what he could not handle was everyone on the planet being in a state of imminent death, at the same time. This meant that Sollux’s metaphorical radio feed has just been turned up to max, and he still couldn’t turn it off. As a result, his manic/depressive problem went into overdrive; the incessant screaming put him constantly on edge, so he was prone to flying into a ranting fury at the slightest provocation, and the fact that he could no longer tune out the pleas for mercy made the bleak future of his race even more harrowing on him. He only got worse as time went on. One of the best examples of his problem came when he was having a ‘feelings jam’ with Feferi in a pile of clown horns. He started out being mopey and terrible because he didn’t understand why she liked him so much, then proceeded to have a screaming fit about the less-than-stellar accommodations (“…this pile isn’t comfortable at all, I’ve got hard metal edges jabbing me everywhere, it’s lumpy as hell, and you can’t move a fucking inch without honking the shit out of it and making everyone else in the room look at you!”), and then went right back to lamenting that Feferi was so awesome and he was so not.

Afterward, he engaged in one tantrum-slash-deathmatch with Eridan Ampora, who had suddenly become a threat without Sollux’s knowing. At this point, he is taken into Route.

Shortly after the fight with Eridan, Sollux will lose his Vision Twofold and therefore the voices in his head; he will suddenly be a lot happier, now that he doesn’t have to listen to anyone’s thoughts but his own. Since the same thing will happen in Route as he becomes a human, we might as well Miltank it for all it’s worth, right?

…That was terrible. I’m sorry.

2/2 (I feel like I should have linked this just for length)

[personal profile] murkrows 2012-07-06 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths:
♊ Intelligence. Sollux has an understanding of many advanced topics such as technology and beekeeping (it takes a lot to keep them alive, okay), and he picks up on new things quickly.

♊ Nerdism. He plays video games virtually all the time, and even if Fiduspawn (basically his world’s Pokémon) was never his absolute favorite, he is a fan when no one else is looking. Since he has virtually no social life outside of the Internet, he will phase well from controlling a Trainer on a computer screen to being one himself.

♊ Independence. Trolls do not have parents; instead, they have creatures called lusii to raise them. Sollux’s lusus was… well, useless, because of its size and lack of intelligence, so he had no choice but to chain it to the top of his apartment building. This means that Sollux essentially raised himself, and in fact took responsibility for feeding and caring for his lusus while most trolls have their lusii do all that for them.

Weaknesses:

♊ Mental instability. As you can see, Sollux has a lot of… problems. He’s not really good at working through them. He is also very bitter at the bad luck he’s had throughout his life – his lusus, his powers, his general perceived shittiness, etc.

♊ City slicker. Sollux’s caste generally lived in New York City-style, extremely industrialized settlements, and so did he. Actual wilderness is a foreign concept for him, which will be an obvious problem for a traveling Trainer.

♊ Extremely out of shape. Another big obstacle towards Trainerdom. Sollux is an eat-nothing, do-nothing type of guy; he has spent practically his entire life inside on the computer, and consumes very little calories. Furthermore, Sollux uses his psionics to do many things, in lieu of the physical alternative. If he needs to get something from across the room, he zaps it over; if he needs to reach a high place, he doesn’t have to get a ladder, just fly himself up there. Even just walking is too much of a strain for him, apparently, since he seems to float everywhere instead. Too bad he doesn’t have his powers anymore. Whoops!

♊ Lisp. This is hardly a ‘weakness’, but Sollux does have some really awkward double vampire fangs on his teeth, and this makes him unable to pronounce S sounds properly; they come out more like TH. For example, ‘thith ith thtupid’ (this is stupid) or ‘Tholluckth Captor’ (Sollux Captor).

Third Person Sample: When Sollux had last went to sleep, it had been against a cracked wall, with dull yellow blood spilling from his mouth. When he woke up, he was not against any wall (cracked or otherwise), and he wasn’t bleeding – and, for that matter, Sollux realized dimly that he wouldn’t be spilling yellow for much longer either.

But, oh god… it was so quiet. Couldn’t he just lie here forever? If he moved, they might come back. He didn’t want them to come back… but then, someone shouted up at him from a place unseen, and he decided that maybe it would be better to get out of here before someone jump-attacked him for sleeping in their presence or something stupid like that.

The boy pushed himself up, surprised at the lack of give in the thing under him. It was a square, squishy and warm from his body heat – not uncomfortable, but not what he was used to, either. The block around him was unfamiliar; it definitely wasn’t the meteor. There was almost no metal anywhere, and the wires usually streaming throughout the ceiling and walls were also absent. Most distressing. Sollux went to pull the fabric over his body, but noticed with a start that there was something wrong with his arm. Very wrong. It was too pink, too fleshy.

Suddenly wasting no time with looking around, Sollux threw the blanket violently off of him and rushed across the room to the mirror on the other side. What gaped back at him was a boy, a human boy, with messy black hair and eyes that couldn’t seem to decide whether they were red or blue – the right eye was the cooler color, the left eye was warm. But, Sollux noticed, and this was obviously very important… his teeth were still there. All of them. Including the giant ones.

“Well, shit,” Sollux said experimentally, and confirmed what he had been thinking. Yup, lisp secured.

The yelling continued from a nearby staircase, so Sollux dressed clumsily – his old clothes were sitting on the floor, thank god they still fit – and descended. There was a human adult (or, what he thought was a human adult; why was she so short?) standing about halfway across the room, babbling more at you about some ‘big day’ that was happening.

“Who the fuck are you?” he interrupted.

Her demeanor changed immediately, and she began scolding him for using that kind of language to his mother – whatever that was. Was that her name? Mother? Whatever. Sollux decided he didn’t want to find out, so he ignored the suddenly-indignant woman and walked outside, putting on his trusty glasses as he did so. Maybe someone out there would have more answers than the psycho he’d met here?

The Homestuck Wiki

Personality:
Equius is a noble in the oldest sense of the word. Though he considers it a duty of sorts to shepherd and help those weaker than himself or of lower class, he has a definite sense of arrogance about his own standing in the social hierarchy. He's very protective of those close to him, particularly Nepeta, but in a way that makes it very clear he believes that he knows best. Deviation from what he considers the expected behavior of those above or below him confuses and flusters him to the point of fetishizing such variances in behavior. Being commanded in particular, by one above or below him on the Trolls' hemospectrum, fascinates him to an uncomfortable degree. He has little patience for what he deems “foolishness”, and only plays games he considers to have suitably high stakes. At least once, however, he does loosen up enough to roleplay with Nepeta when they were alone. Over the course of the trolls' session, he seems to grow more tolerant to the presence of the lower-class trolls, even accepting Karkat's authority as leader. Perhaps his single greatest flaw is his temper – as a blue-blooded troll, Equius is prone to fits of sweaty anger. He generally calms down by either breaking something, getting someone to break something by proxy, or, quite often, by vigorously toweling off and talking with Nepeta.

His chief pursuit (aside from a habitual breaking of archery bows) is maintaining his physical condition and strength. A large part of this pursuit has lead Equius to be a skilled roboticist; he builds numerous fighting robots which he then fights to the death in cage matches to vent his blue-blooded rage. Equius' technological skill was also great enough that he built cybernetic prosthesis for Vriska and Tavros, as well as a fully robotic body for Aradia Megido. On rare occasions he dabbles in slam poetry, which he considers one of troll society's more cultured arts. These poems are, however, largely about his own borderline-fetishitic fascinations and are thus usually considered only roughly above Vogon poetry by those hearing them. While on Alternia, he also collected nude musclebeast portraits, which were similarly considered to be both highly cultured and exceedingly disturbing. Equius was also apparently something of a vegetarian, an oddity among trolls; at the very least, he objected to the pointless killing of wildlife. Despite his own perversions and idiosyncrasies Equius was, ultimately, largely harmless to everyone that wasn't an RPG-style monster. His eventual death was the result of both his need to be commanded and his refusal to use violence as a first resort against another troll.

Third Person Sample:
“I understand if you are still uncertain as to the necessity of this venture.”

Equius looked over the tops of his perpetually-cracked sunglasses at the Ponyta standing patiently in front of him. She snorted and lightly kicked at the dirt with one hoof, as if telling him to get on with it. The former troll grimaced and gingerly tapped a few keys on his PokeGear, reviewing the information in front of him. Despite his caution, it completely failed to shatter under his grip. Not even a little. The indignity of it was almost enough for him to consider commissioning a new unit made of weaker materials.

“It is quite admirable that you wish to continue proving your strength alone,” he continued, clicking the PokeGear shut and slipping it into his pack. “And you have done so excellently thus far on our travels. But I believe it would be for the best to acquire allies. If nothing else, there is an advantage in numbers.”

Motioning for the Ponyta to follow, Equius slid off the large rock he had been seated on and strode into the open grass of the route, Dark Cave at his back. He was quite sure he would be able to handle any Pokemon thinking of ambushing him during preparations, but it still seemed prudent to have something other than open space behind him. The suddenly-rising mountain also provided an easy landmark for navigation, on the extremely low chance that he managed to get lost.

“Keep a lookout for any of the rat-beasts,” he said, picking his way slowly across the ground. “I believe they are quite common, but I have been assured that they are top-percentage.”

The Ponyta gave another annoyed snort.

“They seemed a good choice for a first acquisition.”

Finally losing patience, the Ponyta charged past its trainer into the grass, snorting out a wave of Ember attacks that turned the grass to kindling in the summer's heat. Wild Pokemon began shooting out of the now-flaming grass, fleeing the heat and the Ponyta's attacks. The Ponyta herself briefly disappeared into the smoke and fire, emerging a few moments later chasing a Rattata. She bucked forward in a Tackle attack, sending the smaller Pokemon tumbling. It rebounded quickly, trading blows with the Ponyta a few times before the horse Pokemon seemed to grow tired and stomped down quickly on its adversary, trapping the Rattata under one firmly-planted hoof.

“...A bit direct, but effective, I must admit,” Equius said after a moment of silence. “I approve.”

Character
Name: Kairi
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Timeline: Between Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance.
Canon Resource Links: Canon source

Personality:
Kairi in a nutshell is a very lighthearted person; it comes with being a Princess of Heart, one would imagine. She cares a lot about the people around her, and even more so about her close friends, to the point that she would willingly toss her own safety aside to assist that person, her loyalty to her friends showing in those instances. She's a very headstrong individual and stubborn to boot, as well as quite outspoken and charismatic, as she makes friends rather easily.

And here's where we delve a little into headcanon (or just a natural assumption, really), mixed in with canon.

After her year spent apart from Sora and Riku, in-game she seems to have gained quite a bit of maturity due to her actions and she's mellowed out and become a patient girl. But with the added interactions included within the manga, she retains her usual personality as well, having her moments where she would be angry over something (though it never lasts for long, most times), or even going as far as biting Axel's arm because he wouldn't let her go after kidnapping her. I imagine she'd be rather easy for most people to talk to about anything, often a good listener and giving good, Disney-esque advice in the process.

However, her stubbornness can get her into a bit of trouble, especially if it involves someone she cares about - she's likely to follow her heart rather than think logically about her actions when she's leaping to the aid of a friend, which could easily end badly. Perfect example being when she leaps off of a ledge and into a mob of Heartless to try to get to Sora... without a weapon.

She's not perfect, and one would think her personality isn't quite Princess of Heart material, but she is. She would never use that as leverage to gain any sort of advantage over someone of course, and if someone points it out to her, she'd likely ignore the title and continue with the conversation.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Some of this was covered in the personality section (whoops), such as her stubbornness that can get her into trouble, or endangering herself for her friends. Though things to be added are:
➔ She can cook! She's used to doing so with what can be found on a tropical island chain though, so it'll be a new experience for her in a way.
➔ She fears being unable to help her friends if they'd ever need the help.
➔ She's somewhat of an artist, not that it'll do her much good. However, she likes doing crafty things too, like making trinkets with meaning behind them.
➔ She isn't a hateful person - she may dislike people for things they've done to her or her friends in the past, but hate is a very strong word. Even then, redemption is an option in her eyes.

[The feed turns on and the young redhead that appears sighs in relief.]

Oh thank goodness. I thought I'd never figure it out.

[There's a bit of silence as just takes a moment to look around as if she hadn't done so before, and there's a confused sort of look on her face, eyebrows furrowed slightly as she chews absently on the inside of her cheek.]

Sora? ... Riku? Please tell me you're here and you can see this.

[Because of course, that's what she concerns herself with first - her friends. But suddenly, a Houndour appears in the line of vision, and he seems to have already warmed up to the girl a little, nuzzling her jaw a bit as if to reassure her, which makes it apparent that she sat down to fiddle with the PokeGear. She offers the creature a warm smile and stands up, brushing off her clothes a little.]

Yeah, you're right. I can handle this, even if they aren't here. [She beams down at the Houndour and leans over to pat his head.] Though if you keep this up, I'll start calling you Pluto.

[A quiet giggle escapes her before she shuts off the 'gear.]

Third Person Sample:
As the redhead turned off the Pokegear, she tucked it away and started to dig through her bag to see what was available to her. Personal hygiene items, towels, some food, a change of clothes - which caused her to pause, then laugh out loud, as the clothes looked just like her school uniform - some books, and a few other useful things.

Well at least whoever had brought her here had at least left her prepared.

Kairi picked out one of the books and started flipping through it. After all, it made sense that if she was being given information, that the most obvious thing to do was to look through it all. As she read, she started to make herself to a corner of the town so she wasn't in the way of anyone, though she almost bumped into a couple of people along the way. It was odd, as if her being there in a small town was just the easiest thing to accept for those people. No one questioned where she was from, no one stated that they didn't recognized her. They didn't even give her questioning looks or suspicious glances. It was as if, to them, she'd been there her entire life.

It was a bit eerie. Kairi was used to being taken to different worlds by now, especially against her will. But usually, there was someone there to ask her questions or make demands of her.

The only thing she'd been asked to do here was to take care of a Pokemon - which was a concept itself she was still getting used to - and go explore the world.

Kairi leaned against a tree as she skimmed the last few pages of the book in her hands, something about berries, which was a page she dogeared for later - if she was going to be out on her own, she'd need to know what was edible and what wasn't, and learn to cook with what she could. She shut the book and looked down, her Houndour already curled up at her feet and looking up at her eagerly. With a sigh, she crouched down and scratched the canine behind his ears, which elicited a contented bark from the creature, and despite everything... she felt better about her situation.

It was better than dealing with Heartless, that much was certain. And even if any showed up, she had a feeling this Houndour - her new friend - would keep her safe, just as Pluto had previously. He was her new companion, and one that she'd be perfectly happy with.

"Well then, are you ready to go?"

Note/Question: I was wondering if it'd be possible for me to make a separate journal just for adding the other journals and posting, but comment with my main Kairi journal (this one)? I kind of use this for other things, such as posting CR charts for games I'm in and whatnot, and I don't want the OOC to mix with the IC posts. Also, it's for ease of not having to switch accounts between games (as I tend to not want to switch journals if I'm doing a lot of threads at once, so I just stick with one journal until things die down) and icons.

But if not, I can go ahead and have the separate account made for the game and just roll with it.

Character Refrence

Personality:
Owen is an amazingly friendly guy. First and foremost, that’s the kind of guy he is. He’s friendly, the kind of guy who will talk to anyone and try to get to know them. He’s caring, and he loves helping others whether it means obliterating rocks with his hammer or helping give advice when he can. He’s hard-working and dedicated, something his grandfather appreciates. As a blacksmith’s apprentice, Owen is never late and always gives his all. And when he’s done working, he still has energy left in him; he heads to the bar and hangs out with the rest of the villagers or hangs around at the festivals. He’s a great guy to have around; when he’s not working hard to make his own living, he’s as laid back as they come.

He’s also one-hundred percent outdoorsy. He loves animals, especially the ones that are seen at the town’s circus. He loves digging around in the mines. Owen is the sort of man who won’t turn down an opportunity to go camping, and he’s been friends with one of the lumberjacks in the town since they were kids. When it’s raining, though, he’s still busy keeping active. He doesn’t like to stop, so he can often be found lifting weights in his room, working hard and never hardly working.

Despite his size and friendliness, there’s one area where Owen doesn’t have a lot of experience: romance. When he falls for someone, he falls for them hard. He’ll openly admit to the player character (if female) that he can’t stop thinking about her and thinking about her with someone else. When it comes to Kathy, his other potential wife, he’s very forward as opposed to being romantic. He proposes to her on a whim after drinking, and their first kiss is something Owen makes her do after beating her in a horse race. When in love, he’ll either blush and not know what to do with himself, or he’ll be extremely forward—there’s no middle ground with Owen there.

Owen is just a nice guy to be around. He loves rocks and gems and works hard so that no one will take his spot at the blacksmith. Aside from that, though, he just loves being around people. His one wish in life is that he’ll be strong in his old age like his grandfather, all so that he can protect everyone he loves: Chloe, his cousin, his wife, his kids...everyone. Sure, he’ll have a drink or five after work and he doesn’t always think things through, but he’s always there to lend a hand—or hammer—when needed...and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Strong! Owen is a muscleman. He spends a lot of time in the mines. He’s strong and has plenty of stamina.
+Good with kids! Even though he says Chloe, his cousin, takes care of him, he’s also very good with her. She’s important to him, and she has a ton of energy...he loves spending time with her, though.
+Very loyal! His goal in life is to be able to take care of those he loves, always, and be strong enough to do so.
+Friendly! Owen is a laid back guy who gets along with pretty much anyone.

-Owen can be pretty blunt. He’ll flat-out tell if you if he loves something, which is great! But being a little insensitive, he’ll also flat-out tell you if he hates something or you do something he doesn’t like.
-Rash. You think he’d know better, being a miner, but he plays around with a priceless bell carelessly and uses it to play kick the can. Also, find a new wall in the mines? Bust it down with your hammer, despite it possibly being very important. Luckily, someone stopped him.
-Easily flustered! For a big guy, he’s surprisingly sensitive. He can be blunt, yes, but he also doesn’t always know quite what to say and can come across as possessive or just not say things until a few days after the fact.

So this is the guide to Pokémon Breeding, right?

[Owen grins as he holds up the book that came in his bag. His Roggenrola is standing on a fence next to him.]

I flipped through it, and I gotta say...it’s strange. It doesn’t say anything about breeding rocks! Anyone got advice for that kind of thing? [He laughs, placing a hand on his starter.] That’s not really how it works back home, so uh...I’ll take any advice I can get. I don’t want to force Invar into anything, though. [He pauses, tilting his head as he thinks...] How will I even know if I find a...uh, girl rock? [He stares at Invar, who just stares back. Owen laughs again.]

I guess we’ll just figure it out as we go along. It can’t be too hard.

Third Person Sample:

As much as he loved caves, Dark Cave was just not on Owen’s list of to-do things in Johto. He of all people knew it was dangerous to wander into an unlit cave, so he was able to quell his thirst for spelunking without too much internal conflict and move on. It never left his mind, but he wasn’t the kind of man who would ignore basic safety guidelines. He didn’t want to hurt himself. That would only make things difficult in the long run.

But once he had gotten Flash...well, the first thing he did was return. Passing up a cave for safety was one thing, but passing up a cave when you have everything you need to explore it? Unthinkable!

“Alright, guys! Here’s the plan.” He stood outside the entrance to the cave, his two trusted companions Drilbur and Boldore standing with him. “We missed our chance last time, but we’ll spend two weeks here, seeing what we can find. Sound good, everyone?”

His two Pokémon agreed, and Owen chuckled, reaching into his bag. It took him only a moment to pull out the TM for Flash, something they were all going to need to get further into the cave. “So, which one of you guys...” He didn’t even get a chance to finish his sentence before noticing that this Pokémon were both shaking their heads. “What’s wrong, guys?” He moved to put the TM back in his bag, noticing that their eyes were following it. Shaking their heads...the TM for Flash...there was no way. After coming this far back to the cave, this was the last thing Owen expected to happen.

“Don’t tell me.” He groaned, looking at them. “Neither of you can learn this, huh?” Again, they shook their heads. Owen finished putting the TM away and looked around them, sighing and giving up wit ha shrug. “Guess we’ve got no choice. Looks like we’ll have to find someone to help us out with this, won’t we?”

Canon Resource Links: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Yu-Gi-Oh!_GX (the show) http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/The_Supreme_King (the character) http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Jaden_Yuki (Haou's counterpart. I'll likely compare the two at a few points.)

Personality: Haou is very... quiet. He's essentially the other half of one Judai Yuki, the protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh GX, and while he's quite similar to Judai, he's also very different. Where Judai is loud and likes to say what's on his mind, Haou would much rather not say anything and keep his emotions off his face. He's calm and collected most of the time, yet manages to keep a regal air about him. He's not much of a talker, only speaking when it's required, or occassionally to spite his enemies. He's also slightly more formal in the way he speaks than Judai (who's actually considered quite rude in the original japanese dub).

Haou also has the potential to be very cruel and unforgiving. When dueling, he'll stop at nothing to win (though he never cheats), pulling out all the stops against all his opponents. He'll mock and put down his opponents as well, believing them to be beneath him, and showing no remorse for his actions. He's shown to have put a bit more thought into his actions as well, intelligently thinking everything through before he does it.

Since Judai 'fixed' Yubel (the monster behind most of the things that had happened in season three) and merged with him, Haou has also calmed down as well, dropping his former 'doing evil to prevent evil' philosophy, and even occassionally helping Judai when required. He is no longer as cruel as he once was, though he will still put his all into a duel and needs someone to hold him back from being too hard on his opponent. He can still be kind to someone, if he likes them enough, though it is very subtle, and it's quite hard to get him to like you in the first place.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Dueling! Which probably translates well to Pokemon battles.
+ Strategy and plans. Mostly of the military kind, but could probably cook up a good plan for most situations.
+ Honest. He refuses to cheat, and will probably tell the truth unless prompted otherwise.
+ Calm. Can keep a clear head in most situations.
+ If you're an ally of his, and he deems you valuable, he will defend you.

+- Confident in his abilities. Possibly a little too confident...
+- While he's not exactly unkind, he's very distant and cold.

- Social interaction on a normal level. Knows how to act around authority figures, but terrible at just having a talk.
- Thinks himself above most humans (though he's not hostile either).
- Apathy. Not to say he's emotionless or doesn't care at all, but it can be hard to get him to take an interest.
- Generally very serious. He's not much one for jokes an the like, though he might smirk at you if you amuse him.
- While he'll try to hide it, he's really quite naiive to some things. (Not nearly as bad as Judai though)
- Terrified of being 100% alone. He likes his space and his alone time, sure, but if you dropped him on a deserted planet he'd probably be a mess upset.

Starter: Eevee. My reasoning is that Eevee is the most similar (out of the starters offered) to a Kuriboh, in my opinion, in both astetics and general nature. Except, you know, Eevees don't fly. Winged Kuriboh, in canon, is Judai/Haou's spirit partner, and as such have a certain bond. In addition, Eevee is able to change it's form in many ways, similar to Haou's dueling deck, who's monsters have a lot of similar capabilities.
Also I think it would be incredibly amusing for someone as stoic as Haou to have something fluffy as a starter. (If you choose not to accept, I'd like a Vulpix please.)

First Person Sample: {The video opens to a very unimpressed boy with golden eyes staring at the camera. There's an Eevee in his lap and a red backpack beside him, and you can see the buildings of New Bark Town in the backround.}

I would appreciate it if someone would tell me how I came to be here. It is one of my few questions that has been left unanswered.

{The Eevee sits up and rubs his head under Haou's free hand, begging to be pet. He absentmindedly scratches behind the thing's ears, mostly so he'll sit still.}

I have been told that I am to go on a journey around this land. I... do not see much purpose in it, but I'll do it. Perhaps it will make a challenging distraction from the mundane. {He smirks. And then Eevee abandons the hand to rub his head under Haou's chin.

Haou looks vaguely annoyed by this, but decides he doesn't care, and sighs.} And how does one go about training a 'Pokemon', anyway?

Third Person Sample: The first thing Haou noticed when he first woke up was how much warmer this room was than he remembered. Curled beneath the blankets, it took him a moment to rouse himself properly and sit up. Wait... sit up? Was he... in control of a body?

He instantly threw off the covers and went over to the mirror that hung on the back off the door. Yellow eyes, fluffy brown hair, scrawny limbs... but where was Judai? A quick search of his mind told him that he was completely alone, no spirits or humans alike.

Haou was dumbstruck. He was... alone? In his own body? How? Why? For that matter, where was he? Cautiously, he turned around to examine the bedroom that he had most certainly never seen before. It seemed like it was an ordinary room, sunlight streaming through the window, but he didn't trust appearances. Quickly, he grabbed his clothes, the only familiar things he could see, and dressed.

He made his way down the stairs to the kitchen, still quite nervous (It had been a very long time sice he'd been so completely alone), to find a rather short woman waiting for him. He eyed her, but she offered him nothing but a smile and a backpack as she ushered him out the door.

Suddenly finding himself outside, Haou turned around to demand an explaination from this woman only to find that the door had been locked behind him and all the lights in the building were off. How... peculiar. He sighed, knowing perfectly well he wouldn't be getting any information from this place.

He wandered down the street and, finding a bench, sat down to examine the contents of the bag the woman had given him and see if there was anything useful. He thumbed through a guide book (well that explained a few things, at least), played with what seemed to be some sort of cellular phone, and tried a bit of the trail mix (which was surprisingly good and he desperately hoped wasn't poisoned or something) before he came upon the odd red and white ball at the bottom of the bag.

Extracting it from the bag with little difficulty, Haou raised it up to examine properly. What an odd object... but what was it? Carefully, he pressed the button in the center...

[personal profile] fairycircle 2012-07-08 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Sweet, caring, and always wanting to help people, Cheria is typically called an "angel of joy" in game by several people. She always wants to protect and gives up so much for other people, Cheria tends to leave herself the short end of the stick. It's not that she doesn't think she doesn't deserve it, but that they deserve it so much more. She's so nice, that the guy who kidnapped her and tried to feed her to monsters got hurt... and she healed him without complaint or being asked. It's not to say that she doesn't have a sour side when people push her buttons, but she rarely gets so seriously angry that she deliberately tries to hurt someone. Cheria does have some lungs on her and can get into shouting matches when mothering, if only because those she is mothering on have thick skulls.

Being a teenaged girl on the brink of adulthood, Cheria does have some general "girl" responses to certain situations. Things like her hair puffing out and frizzing when it's too humid? Oh my god she needs to hide! SO EMBARRASSING! Or, she gets a new ribbon, the guy of her dreams doesn't notice because he's a derp? AUGHGHHH BOYSS WHYY. Talking about leaving through the Rockgagong's butt after being eaten by it? NO WE WILL NOT BE DOING THAT, WHY SO DISGUSTING EVERYONE.

Despite being so kind, Cheria does have a stubborn streak in her. It doesn't make her bull-headed and not listen to others, but she never gives up on people. There is always a way to help them, in some way, shape or form. Then again, she also refuses to tell Asbel her true feelings for him. She has a good reason, at least! When they were children, Asbel left home due to plot related reasons and left Cheria all alone out of their small group of friends. Due to that, she's become a bit clingy due to being outright abandoned. Hubert had no choice, neither did Sophie, and Richard was a prince so he obviously couldn't stay around.. but Asbel? He just left, even after promising to stay. They've come to terms with this and are past it, but it doesn't change that Cheria still behaves a little more clingy than she really needs to be; he won't leave her again, but she still worries. It's not as though she had been expecting him to leave after promising not to, you know?

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Motherly, patient and kind.
+ Strong willed
+ Incredibly compassionate
+ Pretty good cook, for using an eleth mixer all the time.
+ Very accurate and good at handling throwing knives.

- MOTHERLY. Mom said, "don't be a picky eater"! Sometimes oversteps, but.. well. Someone has to tell Pascal to take a bath.
- Very stubborn about certain things.
- "That skirt is far too short."
- Intense abandonment issues.
- Being kind of a girly girl, she doesn't like certain things. Like talking about leaving through giant monsters butts, letting Asbel see her hair poof out when it's humid, showing people her new ribbon with ridiculous excitement and them not realizing that that is what she changed about her outfit that day.. That sort of stuff.

Canon Resource Links:
Gilgamesh at the Type Moon wiki: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Gilgamesh
Fate/Zero at the Type Moon wiki: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Fate/Zero
Epic of Gilgamesh at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_of_Gilgamesh (Fate/Zero acknowledges the Epic of Gilgamesh as the foundational history and events of Gilgamesh-as-Archer. With that in mind, I treat it as secondary source material.)

Personality:
In each Grail War, Servants are summoned, and each and every one of them is acknowledged as a hero. To have Gilgamesh then be addressed and acknowledged as the King of Heroes is a telling detail to begin with when exploring his character. He is prideful to the extreme, outspoken and shamelessly arrogant in the face of ally and enemy alike. He is summoned with the explicit goal of being the strongest Servant of the war, and lives up to expectations, presenting himself as the first king of humanity to whom all lands and all treasures truly belong. The scope of his boasting is grandiose enough to appear deluded, but it bears noting that he is never unable to stand behind his claims. He is accustomed to wielding great amounts of power, both in his own lifetime as the demigod king of Uruk and during his existence as a Servant wielding immense magical power. His interests lie first in keeping that power within his grasp - and after that, doing whatever he pleases to fill up what time remains.

Being confident in his own abilities and standing, Gilgamesh attends mostly to upkeep. He warns those who he deems unworthy against addressing him without proper respect, and make no mistake, all of the world is unworthy to some degree or another. In his first battle, he takes offense to the very idea of standing on the same ground as the other combatants, and while in the course of the war he proves himself capable of recognizing a worthy foe, that honor is hard-won and should never be confused for recognition of an equal. Even among his weapons, of which he owns many, he refuses to use his choicest on any but a few select and deserving foes. His only interest in the Grail itself is in its standing as a treasure: as all treasures by right belong to him, any person who would seek to take the item is a thief, and must be punished as such. The Grail for its own sake holds no allure to him. For it to do so, he would need a wish. But the King of Heroes, he would maintain, wishes for nothing.

That assertion is as good a time as any, probably, to bring up Enkidu. Created to be a complementary “other half” to Gilgamesh’s overbearing, tempestuous nature, Enkidu was a complete antithesis to the king. Where Gilgamesh was a tyrant, taking everything he pleased from his people, Enkidu was created from earth, left to wander the wilds with the beasts, and only came to Uruk to challenge Gilgamesh’s rule. But what begins as a struggle for dominance becomes a deep friendship, beginning and abiding in a mutual recognition between the two as equals. With Enkidu, Gilgamesh slays the monster Humbaba, appointed by the gods as the guardian of the Cedar Forest. With Enkidu, he slays the Bull of Heaven, a divine creature, sent down to ravage Uruk as punishment after Gilgamesh spurns the advances of the goddess Ishtar. And it is Enkidu’s death, in revenge for the slaying of the bull, that irreversibly changes Gilgamesh. In grieving his friend, seeking immortality, and ultimately failing in his quest, Gilgamesh learns that no man lives forever. But in the context of Fate/Zero, Enkidu remains an influence on Gilgamesh’s life. Most tellingly, Gilgamesh claims outright that he has only had one companion, and that is all he shall ever have. At the end of the day, he is entirely alone, by choice and even, it seems, contentedly. However closely he allies himself with any individual, they are not his companion - they are a means to an end, be that end as dark as fulfilling his own desires regardless of means, or as benign as simply remaining with them to satisfy his own curiosity.

Indeed, within Fate/Zero (and even progressing into Fate/Stay Night), Gilgamesh demonstrates that without a grounding influence he readily descends into tyranny and amoral pleasure-seeking. He considers the pursuit of pleasure to be a worthy goal in and of itself, and a large portion of the character Kirei’s development occurs with Gilgamesh’s insistence that he will not know himself until he knows his desires. Gilgamesh himself lives seemingly to satisfy his own desires for adulation and amusement, the latter of which he finds just as often in ruin. As in the myth, he is a creature of superlatives and extremes, in love with his own greatness. However, Fate/Zero offers him no companions, no trials, and no lessons - and thus, he does not emerge the better for it. As of Episode 15, he has seen the Servant Saber’s self-sacrificing idealism, and happily anticipates how it will - or perhaps did - destroy her. Still, he admires her, as someone who reached for something so far beyond themselves. The Gilgamesh of Fate/Zero is one who has been produced from his legend and been summoned as a component of a sacrificial ritual, and thus takes a form capable of the darkest sides of his own myth, as well as the boldest.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:
(+) knowledgeable/analytical: Gilgamesh demonstrates - in conversation, strategy, and battle itself - that he is both intelligent and puts thought into his actions. He not only possesses treasures, but understands why they are classified as such, and turns that same attitude toward his trajectory and surroundings.
(+) manipulative: Though a highly-powered Servant, Gilgamesh accomplishes many of his aims through subtler means, both finding suitable vessels and turning them toward mutually beneficial goals.
(+) strong-willed/determined: Such a characteristic accompanies his ego and skill - Gilgamesh in unshakable in his belief in his greatness, and follows what he wants at the expense of anything else. He is also notably independent-minded, proving one of the most difficult to control of all the Servants of the Grail War.
(+) physically strong: In Route 29, Gilgamesh’s powers as a Servant will not work. However, the myth states him to be capable of great feats of physical strength, hefting enormous weapons and slaying huge monsters, and as a Servant he also possesses a strength many times that of a normal human. Though greatly reduced, his strength, endurance, and traveling speed would still be formidable.

Weaknesses:
(-) self-absorbed: Gilgamesh treats himself as the center of the universe, and treats his own desires as paramount. What he wants - be that possessions, experiences, or people - he will take, by whatever means he pleases. The further he is from a grounding influence, the more prominent this trait becomes.
(-) hard-headed: When Gilgamesh it tripped up, it is usually through the defiance of his own assumptions or expectations. Beyond a certain point, Gilgamesh becomes convinced he is right, and does not always gracefully recover from seeing those beliefs proved wrong.
(-) amoral: Gilgamesh does not have much of a moral compass to speak of. What is good is what pleases him, whether through proving itself worthy or simply providing entertainment. What opposes or disrespects him is unworthy of existence, a crime for which he readily metes out punishment.
(-) bloodthirsty: The world is Gilgamesh’s garden, but it’s easy to see that he enjoys the weeding and pruning very well. He takes pleasure in battle, enjoying the destruction of his enemies, physically and otherwise. By the end of the series, he seems willing to torture the Servant Saber until she agrees to be his bride, showing only determined good cheer through the ordeal. Cruelty and bloodshed have lost much of their unpleasantness for him - they are simply another tool, and one he enjoys using.

[That Servants are summoned with knowledge of the modern world never ceases to be useful. In this instance, it means that Gilgamesh loses very little time in exploring his PokéGear and tending to the essentials. Most apparently, he has found the radio and called up music that is slightly less offensive, even if it reminds him quite a lot of the late-twentieth-century ugliness he has left behind him. That seen to, he has explored the map, and just about every other piece of information on the device besides, before finally returning to the video functionality. He’s long since escaped the squalid farce of the house he awoke in, electing to do his explorations in the open air. A little tch of amusement escapes him as he smirks at the screen, taking in the novelty of people looking upon him when he cannot possibly see them.]

Behold, mongrels, your-

[The smug, blonde visage is replaced by the looming head of a meowth, charm glinting in the sun, nosing at the PokéGear as well as a creature without a proper nose really can. It’s almost immediately scruffed and lifted off the device with an indignant yowl, only to be met with a red-eyed glare from its master. Gilgamesh shakes it lightly, then tosses it to the ground alongside his knee with a dismissive, soft tch of a sound. His smile returns when he looks back down at the little machine.]

Well. A new game, is it? A warning to whoever has summoned me to this aimlessness - I won’t forgive this insult lightly.

[The view rocks as he stands, holding out the device and moving his thumb sightlessly to flip it shut. There is a soft whup-whup of his hand, patting the leg of his snakeskin pants as he beckons his ruffled starter to follow him.]

Come, Sua.

[The transmission ends.]

Third Person Sample:

Gilgamesh walked.

He walked, and the bones of his feet moved in their cradles of tendon and muscle, slid within the tough gloving of skin and nail and hair. They moved him across the ground in accordance with his will, but his will moved not in mana, but in the bright simplicity of nerves twisting through flesh. His will became electricity and chemicals, things he had not even known existed, the last time they had moved in him. But they raced swift and perfect, if anything but godlike, and he felt himself smile as he slowed and stopped at the outskirts of the town, turning to face it. Whoever had achieved the feat of displacing him, they had made a fine offering to him, this enduring bond to space and substance. Their reward would be magnificent. He reached - as unsuited a concept as reach was, to an effort beyond physical forms - opened, called-

Nothing returned.

The world expanded into buzzing, overheated blackness.

Nothing met the insubstantial grasp, there was nothing to open to, nothing- something moved, and Gilgamesh’s hand lifted to it, curled and grasped at strange softness until he understood he was holding the air-thrilling, blood-thrumming bulk of his own throat. Gritting his teeth, he tried again, fighting past the hammering insistence of his own heartbeat. He could see it, the miserable and illusory hamlet shredded into splinters, gleaming with polished metal-

Nothing returned.

The bones of his feet shifted, his ankles and knees and hips carried him back without his full permission, and he reached out to press his hand to the bark of a tree. The air moved dry and stinging between his mouth and lungs, too quickly, and he snarled frustration as he clenched at the tree - the tree that should have yielded like rotten meat against his effort. The tree that held form, even when he tried a second and a third time to peel it open, eyed wide and shoulders trembling with - with fury, yes, fury -

A beige blur jumped in at his feet, and he looked down, stopping and staring in disoriented quiet. The creature that had been with him all morning stared back up, blinking in its curious but unworried feline way. It reared up onto its hind legs, sharpening its claws against the tree, hesitating in silent question. Gilgamesh looked at his own hands - hooked against the tree, one nail broken to the bed and bleeding sluggishly. Something moved in his head that was not blood, and was not prana, but prickled as hotly as either. It was a feeling he remembered, almost, a sensation from-

He turned, will to body to motion, air against his face and motion spinning indistinctly in the very corners of his eyes. Will to breath to voice, beckoning the animal with a sharp “Sua” interrupting the unwelcome memory as imperiously as he had ever interrupted an underling’s voice. The distraction was incomplete, but it sufficed, enough to move him from a place he had seen enough of. So he walked, and only after hours smiled thinly, to see he was in a wilderness.

Advance Wars Black Hole Rising Dual Strike - The Games
Personality: ‘Possum spit! This area wasn't Blue Moon's to begin with. Blue Moon is just plain greedy. That's what it is. Fightin' for these folks just don't sit well with me. Well, I'll guess I'll just mosey on out and see what happens.’

Grit isn’t exactly seen as the most stand-up individual. Towards some people, he’s a traitor, who left his original country for no good reason at all and to others, he’s a lazy, unmotivated sort of man who needs to be forced to do just about anything. However, to a few select people who have seen him and all his sides, he’s a hero. He’s done a lot for his country of Blue Moon, despite all of his bad traits.

According to his commanding officer, Olaf, he’s the worst kind of person. He’s a lazy scoundrel, who is just out to annoy him. He’s often caught sleeping on the job, and other times Olaf comes in and yells at him for not being prepared for battle. Often times, especially in the first game, Grit is caught speaking out against him and his actions.

Olaf : Blast! We're running out of opportunities.
Grit : I don't see the need to get so worked up. It's not like this was Blue Moon property to begin with.
Olaf : What did you say? After all my work and planning?
Grit : It's common theft, man! Nothing more, nothing less.
Olaf : Why, you insolent little...
He doesn’t agree with Olaf’s actions all the time. Especially in the midst of the very first game, Grit believes Olaf is completely out of bounds for what he’s doing. Despite how much of a ‘scoundrel’ he can be, he’s got morals; at least enough to tell himself that what Olaf has been doing, going through Orange Star and tearing it up to conquer it, is wrong.

However, his morals might come into question when it comes to his loyalty. Grit has already hopped from one country to the next one over with barely a word, and he was very close to doing it again. From his first country of Orange Star, he’s already jumped ship once to Blue Moon due to a love triangle being formed (he left so his best friend, and Orange Star Commanding Officer, Max, could be happy with Nell, the highest ranking Commanding Officer in Orange Star), which got him labeled as a traitor by his best friend. When confronted about it, he simply replied that he ‘goes where he wants to go and that’s that’. Meanwhile, he nearly considered hopping ship over to Black Hole, the common enemy of all the armies, because he simply didn’t care about land. However, his issues with people getting killed needlessly and things getting destroyed come into play, and it’s the reason he turns them all away. He doesn’t want to be part of a group that sets out to destroy everything in sight. Adder, the Commanding Officer currently leading that Black Hole brigade, gets a lashing and is now considered one of Grit’s number one enemies.

The reason why Black Hole wanted him so much is that he’s far more competent than he happens to let on. His laziness is part of an act. When it comes down to crunch time, he doesn’t hold back. Grit becomes a hyper competent man, working well behind and in front of the scenes to help his army and the people he’s helping succeed with his intel that he delivers. He seems very quick with information, delivering it as fast as he possibly can to the necessary parties. He looks like a bumpkin that doesn’t know much at all, and he has the speech to match. However, it’s either a chosen act or just a really great coincidence of events, and he can push through that to prove his worth as a second-in-command.

Grit doesn’t have much in the way of an ego, despite his title. He’s a very relaxed fellow, and isn’t one to have his praises sung. In fact, he tells anyone who does it to just knock it off and they’re embarrassing him. He has the title of Sharpshooter, but he doesn’t introduce himself with that. He just introduces himself as Grit, and that’s the end of that for him. Other people talk well enough about him that he finds no real need to. Even if Olaf does get rather frustrated at some of his actions, even he can’t help but to speak well of the man’s skills and how he works.

He’ll occasionally tease Olaf, and anyone else he gets to know, mostly in the way of nicknames and a little hint of sarcasm littered throughout. His commanding officer gets the most of his teasing (‘O bearded one’ happens to be his favorite there). However, other members fall under this as well (Max gets called Maxie, and the younger Commanding Officers get names like junior and kid). However, everything seems to be in a very good nature, and Grit’s normally friendly disposition has everyone besides Olaf appreciating these teasing jabs as simple affectionate jokes. His personality is very friendly, which is why no one takes his teasing too seriously. He’ll make jokes, but he’s a good spirited person and his jokes aren’t spiteful or bitey. When he’s serious or angry, he’ll let it be known.

However, for the most part, he’s laid back. He doesn’t get too excited or upset about anything. He’s a very chill person, and it can be seen in his battle tactics (long distance units take two turns: one to move, and then the next one to fire, so things go very slowly). He doesn’t see the need to move quickly, or react to things quickly. It makes him very level headed in that respect, as he’s able to keep a clear enough head for battle and so he can constantly perform at a strong level, rather than get frazzled and lose his focus.

Grit is a hard worker underneath it all, and just likes to hide it. He’s a good person, with a good set of morals, it’s just often a shame that some of them get passed over for his comfort levels. His biggest issue is his loyalty, and it’s something everyone should watch out for.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Very intelligent; can gather intel faster than most people (only trumpted by Sonja)
+ Excellent marksman
+ Long military history, very strong in multiple wars
+ Strong in long distance abilities and firepower.
+ Humble
+ Has a good sense of humor
+ Strong sense of defending people

+/- Keeps things at a distance and can easily work himself into most situations.
+/- Often can seem deattached from situations, not always completely invested

- Large lack of loyalty
- Comes off lazy and uninterested
- Teases and torments those around him
- Insubodination

First Person Sample: [The camera turns on to a man who has already gotten use to his new position. An apron tied around his waist, still the cowboy hat on his head, he blows a large billow of smoke out of his mouth. While a Hoppip seems to get very comfortable on his head.]

Right, so I know it ain't exactly a huge thing. Hoppips can be found anywhere... trust me, I know. But, if yer interested in an egg by them, lemme know. I gotta few I'd be willing to part with. No charge.

[The Hoppip bounces off his head and right towards the device, joyful even as it crashes and knocks it away. A grumble comes from the man, who has now moved to look over it.]

Tho', if you gotta leash you're willin' to part with, I'll take it off yer hands. Are they always this jumpy?

[He blows another puff of smoke across the screen before he shuts off the feed entirely.]

Third Person Sample: He had no idea how he arrived here. Entering a helicopter, you'd usually expect to be in one after the matter. But not this time. He had awoke in a room. Definitely a room made for someone smaller... he almost hit the roof! After a climb downstairs and being slid outside of the house, he immediately took in his surroundings. A pause as he moved to bend down and look at what he had. Okay, he was getting a new bag as soon as possible. This backpack was not going to work for him. Grit hadn't been in school for years.

He grabbed the Pokeball, and after reading the manual, he let the creature inside out. Hoppip appeared, cheerful and pleased. She bounced around in front of Grit, who was a bit busy seeing all that he had to do. So, he was a breeder and would be doing something like what he had seen done back home. He couldn't say he approved of this idea. But, at the very least, it would help him learn more about this place. That was the key to survival. That, and of course, feeding his addiction.

Pulling the pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, he started by lighting one up. The Hoppip now seeming quite content on his head. Well, so long as she held on tight, he saw no reason to keep her in her cage. He blinked for a moment. "Don't get blown away, lil' guy." He nodded, and she did too. After that, it was time to move out. He would take his time, yes, but he didn't see anything new to learn in this town. The people, maybe... but he had the PokeGear here. And he'd rather interact from a distance. There would be less trouble to be caused over the device.

And the path of least resistance would see a lazy old man resting on it.

Character
Name:Eridan Ampora
Series: Homestuck
Timeline: Post death aka after getting chainsawed in half
Canon Resource Links:
Canon: http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Homestuck
Character: http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Eridan_Ampora

Personality: Eridan is a rather volatile person and one that seems to wear his emotions on his sleeve, it is always easy to tell what sort of mood he is in because he rarely hides it. He seems to go through life with some sort of double standard; for no matter how much he dismisses or insults those lower than him he honestly expects people to pay attention and listen to him when he has something going on, only to complain and whine when he feels as though he is being ignored because obviously his own experiences and feelings are whats important here even when he brings a lot of it upon himself. People may refer to him as a dramatic douchebag, and they would be right, in more ways than one. He loves military history and seems to be driven by tales of epic conquests, even creating an image from himself from these that he follows. He wants to get rid of landwellers and declares magic to be silly and fake, even though he he loves magic and has a collection of wands.

Alternian life is tough and trolls are naturally more violent and destructive than humans anyway, but Eridan takes it to a whole new level. Trolls operate on a hemocaste system and being of violet blood Eridan is royalty, a sea-dwelling troll whose blood is surpassed only by the princess and the empress herself. He looks down on those of lower blood and has a genocidal complex, one that he doesn't even bother to hide. He looks down on those of lower blood than his own, as if they are automatically a lesser person than he is and wants to rid the world of the landwellers , both for polluting the ocean and simply just for being of lower blood. However despite having many opportunities to realize this dream he has never gone through with it because Feferi (his ex-morail and heiress) would be upset by it.

Despite all his theatrics though, Eridan does have people he considers true friends, landdwellers even, and those are the ones to see his genuine emotions. Karkat and Kanaya for example, he is shown to have conversations with them involving things that nobody else knows, even going as far as gossiping about stuff. It does take a special kind of person to put up with him on a daily basis though, simply because despite his intentions, Eridan usually goes about them in entirely the wrong way.

His biggest weakness is that he only sees things from his point of view, prefering to attempt to get others to see things from HIS perspective before the thought even occurs to him to perhaps try and see it from theirs. This only serves to push people away or cause them to reject him, only making himself more annoyed and miserable. Stubborn also, Eridan spent most of their game session alone on his planet killing angels even though he was told several times that he probably wasn't meant to be doing that, only to complain that nobody came to visit him even though he made it so that nobody would dare set foot on his world. He comes across as someone that really wants others to acknowledge him, yet he goes about it entirely the wrong way.

Quadrants. Canon-wise, Eridan is a little more obsessed with quadrants (troll romance) that most trolls are. Although he seems to be lonely, part of it is also to do with his self image. When a troll grows up and enters adulthood the next natural step for them is to fill their quadrants, only Eridan is trying too hard. If one romance fails he moves on to try another, not even considering the image he is creating of himself. He had flushed feelings (love) for Feferi for a long time but she rejected him, later on he dropped hints towards Karkt, Nepeta and Jade as well as trying to antagonize Rose and Sollux into his black quadrant.

Eventually all of these factors merged into one moment. Feeling lonely and that they had no hope for survival, Eridan decided he was going to leave the veil and go join Jack Noir. He asked Feferi to join him in the hopes that jack would spare their lives, but once she refused a fight broke out. He finally seemed to snap, blinding Sollux in a duel. Feferi retaliated and he killed her despite her being the girl he was in love with. He then destroyed the matriorb, effectively destroying his species' hope for survival and killed Kanaya once she turned on him. He then wandered off, running into Vriska and Gamzee but before a fight broke out, a newly resurrected Kanaya showed up to chainsaw him in half. :|

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: He is a history buff, and is intelligent!
He is very determined, once he has an idea in his head he will see it through to the end.
He is really good at.. blowing holes though people :|a Eridan really doesn't have that many strengths...
Weaknesses: As far as Eridan is concerned, his opinion is right and yours is wrong.
He is dramatic and will rarely see a point of view that is not his own.
Humans and trolls of lower blood are lower than him.

and by anytime i mean noww

yeah
ok
still wwaitin

Third Person Sample: Eridan hated this place. For starters, the fact that he was human and therefore, in his opinion, vulnerable. Seriously, how did the species even survive this long being so frail? He had lost so much strength through his humanization that he actually felt rather worried, not that he would mention to anyone. Plus he lost his horns and his grey skin which was even more devastating- he had looked so much more attractive as a troll, seriously!

There was also the fact that he had been seperated from his friends, which was what he hated the most. He was alone, he had nobody there to complain to. Sure there were all sorts of strangers on this foreign network, but none of them were people he knew and therefore that didn't count, as far as Eridan was concerned he was alone and in a terrible looking, frail body and he didn't deserve this. So what if he had killed off two of his friends and blinded someone else, they had deserved that. He didn't deserve this.

Taking a quick break from exploring, Eridan sat down in the shade of a tree, studying the peculiar red and white sphere in his hand. The basics had been explained to him and although he didn't quite understand it yet, the idea of being in charge of fearsome beasts and sending them into battle appealed to him. Perhaps he was looking at this the wrong way. Perhaps this was a new start- away from Alternia and the people who didn't appreciate him for what he was worth, he could start anew in this place. Eridan Ampora, the fearsome pokemon trainer than everyone grew to respect and fear.

With a grin, he bounced up from the ground with a new found energy. He was going to completely ace this... whatever this was, he only hoped that some of the other trolls would show up and be marveled by his new found awesome 'pokemon' skills.

Character
Name: Stellar Loussier
Series: Gundam SEED Destiny
Timeline: Post-Episode 21 (After she was told to sleep and before her memories of Shinn were erased.)
Canon Resource Links:

Gundam Wiki || Wikipedia

Personality:

On the outside, Stellar would at first appear to be a fragile and innocent little girl. There never seems to be anything quite right about her. Her actions don't seem to be that of her age. She would appear to be very child-like, playful and carefree.

Not much is known about her history but there had been hints that she may have went through a serious mental trauma that made her to be that way prior to the series.

She is extremely afraid of dying and saying the word, "die" can really send her on a rampage. Her talent as a pilot and a fighter is undeniable even to the most serious of veterans, but inside she is still very much a scared child that doesn't want to die. Her teammates and colleagues who are aware of this fear take advantage of it to control her and send her on a rampage that can destroy all her enemies without remorse in a blink of an eye.

Unfortunately, this fear is also a danger to her and all the people around her. When she is on a rampage, she cannot tell the difference between friend or foe. Sometimes the only way to calm her is to sedate her with drugs. She also loses sight with reason. She gets scared and frightened by unfamiliar places, especially if she is alone. But there are people who can calm her down. Once even almost drowning herself and Shinn, calming only when he promised to protect her.

Like a child, she can show very innocent affection. She is very protective of Neo Roanoke and would do anything to protect him without wanting anything in return. When Shinn rescued her from drowning, she gave him a pretty, pink shell to thank him for helping her. When she trust someone, she trusts completely. She has no qualms walking around a cave alone with Shinn half-naked after he won her trust. It is true that she told Shinn that she loved him before she died, but it is not clear what she meant by love. Her heart is much too young to understand romance, but she is very fond and close to both Shinn and Neo. She also likes pretty things. She liked the shell she gave Shinn and the casual, blue dress she often wears. Her pleasure is always shown in her face and actions even though she really doesn't talk very often.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Fighter. She is a pilot of the Gaia Gundam and later the Destroy.
+ Innocent. Her personality is like that of a 3-5 year old child.
+ Protective. She went against orders to protect 'Mother.'

+/- Child-like. She still thinks like a child. She likes to dance, pretty shells and playing by the ocean.

- Fragile. She is a danger to herself and the people around her.
- Can be easily manipulated. If you know exactly what to say to her, she will do whatever she is told.
- Sensitive to the word: DIE. She doesn't want to die. To her dying is a bad thing.
- Cannot differentiate friend or foe when sent on a rampage. She would kill or maim either, if they get in her way.

First Person Sample: The sample must take place in Route_29's setting. Eight sentences is the minimum. This is a PokéConnect post--one that will be on the character's journal, broadcast to the network. Although it is short, it needs to show how your character would communicate with others, as well as be descriptive enough to express the character's voice without sounding too generic.

[ Video; ]

[ The feed will begin with the face of a pretty, blonde young girl and she was looking at the camera very curiously. Despite her pretty face however, her look was void of emotion. She didn't seem to care much about the people watching her ... and the frighteningly large knife she held in her hands.

She is more interested in the buttons found on the device. She begins typing very quickly. The watcher will only be barely able to catch up. After a few moments of typing and not a word from her, she stops. ]

Nothing ...

[ Her hands begins to shake and drops the device. The viewer will no longer be able to see her, but you can still hear her. ]

Neo ...

I'm scared ...

Stellar doesn't like this place ... scary ...

[ Stellar had curled herself into a ball at a corner of the house. Acting like a scared and caged animal. ]

Shinn ... protect ...

Fourth Wall Thread

Third Person Sample:

If there was one thing that could without fail bring a smile to Stellar's face, it would be the sight of the ocean. Ever since her arrival to Johto, she had been acting like a frightened animal. She refused to talk or go near to anyone and only staying attached to her Houndour. Her Houndour wasn't making it very easy for people either.

The houndour would growl and attack with the smallest sign of approach.

But when the group arrived to Cherrygrove, the young woman's expression completely changed. At the sight of the ocean in the distance, Stellar began to show a face of pure joy.

"The sea," she whispered, running towards the ocean. Minutes later, she was barefoot and playing by the water. Her houndour staying a good distance away from the water by her shoes. He was determined to keep watch on his trainer's things.

He wouldn't have to wait long before his trainer would give him her attention again. Her face still having that joyful look, she extends her hand towards him.

"Puppy, play with Stellar?"
