Other Father [2/3]

[personal profile] buttons 2013-01-05 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
The Other Father is a kind, fun and caring man, just as he was created to be. His artificial calling in life is to love and care for his 'Wife' and 'Child' (AKA. Be a part of an elaborate trap) and he does exactly that to the 'T'- though, with a couple of slip-ups on the way. He loves both his wife and child- with the same amount of love to both- and wishes nothing more than for the happiness of both and for them to be a loving family... although he knows that at the end of it, his wife will just eat the soul of the child that they're caring for- the soul of 'their' son or daughter. Although he's a 'puppet' of the Other Mother, he can think for himself and sometimes slips up in doing what he's told, whether it be small comments ('So sharp, you won't feel a thing!' - Offering Coraline the buttons) or giving out information he's not meant to ('He pulled a long face and mother didn't like it' - Second scene in Other Father's study, as well as 'Only one key' nearer to the end). He does make decisions during the movie for himself though, such as warning Coraline through song lyrics ('She's as cute as a button in the eyes of anyone who ever lays their eyes on Coraline' and naturally, the ending: 'Our eyes will be on Coraline' - Other Father Song) or ultimately dying to give Coraline a chance to live at the end of the movie.

He's all that Coraline- his 'daughter'- ever wanted as a father: He's fun-loving, gardens, can play a variety of instruments (a piano and a trumpet-sounding flower are the two examples in the movie, but due to Coraline wanting him to be musical (and the many instruments dotted about his study) I can see him being able to play all-sorts) as-well as sing fantabulously- and he leaves the cooking to his wife! He's the improved version of Coraline's real father, but he shares something special with his real world counterpart: He loves his daughter just as much.

I see the Other Father as a bit of a coward, never standing up to the Other Mother other than the previously mentioned comments. He never just flat-out told Coraline that she was in danger either, which would have gotten him killed. Yet he still tried to help Coraline escape. Due to the last point, I see his ending being a character development point. Even after that, he still loves his wife just as much as before, but he's got that little bit of satisfaction that he possibly saved Coraline's life and stuck up to her for once. Also, the Other Father was made to be fun, but he doesn't seem to be the quickest rat in the race (once again, see 'so sharp you won't feel a thing', a quote that he probably didn't think would do any harm, yet annoyed the Other Mother).

History-ish with character developments throughout canon: (smalled, because unless you want to know history, this probably doesn't need to be read. But it's here just in case.)
The Other Father is a creation of the Other Mother, a puppet made to play happy families with and lure in children for the Other Mother to feast on (she eats their souls). The Other Mother uses her powers to sustain his human form, but really he's been made from a pumpkin (the explanation of how is not mentioned, however I play it that it's his 'blank canvas' of sorts, which is why he starts to devolve into a half-pumpkin, half-human). His current form is the improved image of Charlie Jones, the father of the child he's being made to love and lure in (Coraline).

Coraline first met the Other Father when she was told to fetch him from his study, finding him stationed at his piano. He proceeded to play her a song (with a little (mostly speculation) warning in the lyrics) and aimed to make her laugh. Later (on the second day) he showed his 'daughter' a beautiful garden that he and mother had made for her, taking her up on a flying mantis tractor to show her a birds-eye view of the first wonder... They had made the fantastic garden to look like Coraline's head. He proceeded then to have dinner with his little family, stating that 'everything is right in this world', which of course he was saying under the influence of the Other Mother. Later on in the movie, he and the Other Mother have an offer for dear little Coraline and sit her at the dining table to tell her this lovely proposition: She could stay there with them forever! She could always have everything she wanted! But she had to fulfill a little favour, and one that the Other Father knew well was a trap: she had to let them sew buttons onto her eyes. Apparently it was the only way that she could stay there- and, as the Other Father said: 'So sharp you won't feel a thing!'; the Other Mother proceeds to kick him under the table (or stamp on his foot, it isn't really seen). It's unknown whether he does this to try and put Coraline off accepting the buttons.

After this point, Coraline begins to grow wary and runs away from them. Usually the Other Mother would have the child's soul by then, but due to it not going to plan, she begins to grow weak. As she grows weak, she lacks the power to sustain the forms of her creations and so the Other Father begins to slowly revert back into a pumpkin. The first sign of this is when Coraline approaches him in his study for the second time. If you look you can see that he's grown a little orange, his weight seems to have shifted up a bit and he looks a little like he's deforming. He tells her that he can't help her and let slip that the Other Wybourne disobeyed the Other Mother, so she punished him for it.

Coraline managed to escape home for a day, but soon had to return to save her parents. The Other Father is then first seen in his 'Pumpkin phase'. His lower body had taken on the shape of a pumpkin, his skin turned orange and his face had 'melted' into a permanent Scream-like face; his hair had also taken on the form of green vines and leaves and upon speaking, it's found that he's lost most form of speech, able only to let out the odd word (and even that's barely audible). After Coraline challenged the Other Mother (who had also taken on a darker form), he was placed into the garden and strapped to the mantis-tractor from earlier. When approached by Coraline, mechanical gloves forced him to attack her; he was able to break free from them and give the soul of a previous child to Coraline (whilst exclaiming that he didn't want to hurt her and that he was sorry). Immediately afterwards he fell into the lake and the dying world swallowed him whole- or at least just before it managed to, I've taken him.

Route canon:
Throughout his year+ of previously being in Route, he learnt a heck of a lot. He adopted many children under the impression that he was 'an Other Father' ('the'? He still isn't sure if there's more than him) and lots of kids need an Other Father in Route, what with the abscence of their real ones! He grew close to a lot of his kids quite quickly, and just as much to his Pokémon.

He had befriended two of the Homestuck crew at a very early stage- John and Rose- and very soon 'adopted' them. He adopted many other children (some didn't even know it), but John and Rose were the two that caused his journey to take form. They invited him to travel with their group, and thanks to an event he ended up in Goldenrod even sooner. Instead of travelling though, he took home in Goldenrod and invited every child that needed an Other Father or a place to stay (later dubbed 'the Other Home'), which he himself stayed in for the rest of the year he was there (and it still stands in Goldenrod, being cared for by others). He adopted and befriended many people (as well as ended up in bad ways with Reaver), Jack Skellington being a main friend, as well as one who helped him approach his past in a different light.

In the end, the open, un-staged interaction with people who weren't (all) afraid of him, didn't abuse him, and as well as were natural (some of them) people actually helped him develop as a person very quickly; having been sheltered from the real world, the sudden full force of it knocked knowledge into him. Over time he learnt friendship, not to be afraid (as taught by Jack), that not all children needed someone to look after them (yet still deserved the love they'd get). He also learnt (and disliked learning) anger and that you didn't need to be the Beldam to be a bad person (see: Reaver, after he started telling his view on marraige and families). He's learnt pointless information, important information and overall he's learnt to be his own person and not just a puppet of the Other Mother. He loves his life in Johto, although it still lacks his wife (who he seriously can't fall out of love with, no matter how bad she is).

His personality itself has barely changed, but his confidence and outlook on things have. Where as he never used to say much unless told, he'll now say what he thinks (or what he thinks people need or want to hear). Although he does still slip up ocasionally (nobody (with free-will) is perfect, even if they were made to be). And ever since the Other Mother turned up shortly, his outlook on that had bubbled back up to the surface and he was forced to think over it all with his new outlook. Suffice to say, he thinks of her a little differently after how she acted.

Coming back to Route, he'll be glad to be back. Though he doesn't remember anything from the time in between departure and arrival, the fact he left in the first place made him sad. To be back with the family- that he's entirely sure love him in return- and to care for them is what makes Johto his new home. As much as he would love his wife to be in the world of Pokémon with him, he knows if he was at their home then the world wouldn't be right... Not to mention, he now knows more than ever that there's nothing to go back to.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
The Other Father has little strength in anything but skill, each skill being perfect because he was created to do it. He professes in two main skills: Music and Gardening.

-Music
He was shown in canon playing a piano (although what he played was controlled by the Other Mother's gloves) and a type of flower-trumpet; logically, because he was made to be a perfect musician for Coraline, he could play any instrument without any problem, combining them with his fabulous singing voice to make a perfect song for all the boys and girls.

-Garden
His gardening skills- like his musical skills- are also some of the best. He grew an entire garden for Coraline, shaping the entire thing in her image (although, it is unknown whether/how much help he had from the Other Mother making the garden... at the end of the day though, he was created to be a gardener, and so he would possess those skills- not to mention he was created from a pumpkin, which by the way that the Other Mother's creation is presumed to work, this helps.)

Weakness-wise, he's not very strong and definitely lacks a backbone. It was shown in canon that he was unable to stand up to the Other Mother for quite some time. He's gained a bit of a backbone since he came into Route, having stuck up to Reaver on occasion, as well as being faced with an ill Other Mother and needing to rescue her. But if there's any real danger, he'll still try and stay out of the middle of it unless he has a motivation (if a child's in danger, he's more likely to put himself in front of them to save them). He has really grown in this aspect on his journey from end-canon through the year+ in Route.

Cooking is also his main weakness. It may not seem like a weakness, but when you have a house full of hungry children, it becomes the world's biggest problem. Good thing they're all happy enough to cook... I mean, he still tries, but some of the concoctions would make a regular person (who won't eat anything) sick.

Another weakness, which I doubt will come up in Route, is that when the Other Mother is low on strength, he reverts back to a mesh of his former pumpkin-self and his human form. Due to the 'Being turned into a human' thing, it probably won't come up (I think?), but if it ever did I would have it be his own strength controlling his form shift instead of the Other Mother (And if an Other Mother came in, it may shift to her depending on mun-circumstances/etc.)

Character
Name: Shinn Asuka
Series: Gundam SEED Destiny
Timeline: Post-Canon
Canon Resource Links:
Here

Personality:
Impulsive is definitely one word to describe Shinn Asuka. Being one to rush headfirst to any situation, its no wonder that this guy is able to get into a lot of troubles just by following the first thing that comes inside his mind. While he starts to grow out of this style of thinking much later on after his series ended, he still shows signs of this when under extreme stress or dangerous situations that involves his friends and/or teammates. This trait also means that Shinn might not really get along well with authoritative figures that prefers their men being obedient to them, as shown when he disobeyed some direct orders from his superiors in several sorties, preferring to engage the enemy he is assigned to just disable to the death.

Around those he considers friends, Shinn is social with them, as shown by his interactions with his fellow group of soldiers, though while sociable, Shinn is not afraid to speak his mind aloud and will in fact do so without any provocation whatsoever. Do note that he will be very rude and brash to those he doesn’t really like, and God forbid that you’re the type to go back on your words, because he is a person who holds promises in the highest regard, and doesn’t take it well when someone breaks those, one of the examples of this is his old hatred for Orb due to them being a neutral country and yet doing things that just got them attacked, and how his relationship with Athrun had a rocky start due to him believing that Athrun was a traitor to ZAFT due to Athrun’s past involvements with the ZAFT.

Beneath his social shell and impulsive nature, lies someone who has been broken by wars, and would do anything he can just to end it. This is very apparent in the series, where this very drive in addition to his deteriorating mental health from the events he suffered through in the war led him to be easily manipulated by Durandal and Rey to conform to their Destiny Plan, which is aimed to end wars throughout the world via determining everyone's roles from birth. After the series, Shinn is shown that he is now working with Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala in these very same efforts after realizing the error of his ways with Durandal.

Before the war ended, Shinn used to carry with him his Mayu's cellphone and often called it just to listen to her voice speaking through the answering machine, signifying his reluctance to let go of his past. While he lets go of this attitude by the end, he still carries her cellphone with him at times just so he will remember his newfound promise to enforce peace in Earth. Not only that, he tends to form connections with those that reminds him of his little sisters, due to his nature as a big brother never dissipating even after Mayu's death. His relation ship with the then-alive Stellar Louisser is a testament to this.

In battle, Shinn tends to stick with being a bushwhacker, that is to say, employing different tactics in other to catch the opponent off-guard and using the opening to attack the enemy from the blind-spot. Also in battle, Shinn tends to be the type that yells quite loudly while still being able to keep his cool enough to issue some orders, which is shown during some of his conversations with the bridge communicator during battle in the canon itself.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Coordinator: Increased speed, strength, intelligence, reflexes. Its only above average though, so its not exactly superhuman either.
+ Quick thinking: Able to form a strategy on the fly to take advantage of the situation.
+ Ace pilot: Capable of piloting a giant robot and pretty damn good at it too.
+ Promise-keeper: Will always try to keep his promise.
+/- Stubbornness: He... does not exactly know the meaning of the phrase ‘give up’ when the situation is personal.
- Reckless: Will jump into a dangerous situations without a moments thought.
- Easily angered: Has a short fuse that might blow if you trip the wrong switch.

[Its just another morning, Johto! And you can probably hear some irate ranting from your Gear.]

Of all the times... why the hell does this place drags anyone back at the worst possible timings!?

[When you turn on your video feed, you're going to see a black-haired male looking disgruntled with a somewhat amused Pichu clinging to his head.

Oh. And the gear is on the ground camera-side up, with said boy staring into it with his red eyes.]

Whatever. I don't really care anyways. The name's Shinn Asuka and if someone here still knows me? Great. But again, it doesn't matter anyways since we're stuck in this 'happy' land.

[And with that, he ends the feed!]

Third Person Sample: The only thing he could do was to stare at the scene before him. Sure the staff asked for his assistance but he clearly didn't expect to see this. His Pichu was covered in flour being chased by an irate big man wearing the standard set of clothing obviously belonging to a chef. And judging by the way the other staffs steered clear of the man gave him the conclusion that this man is in fact, the head chef. Groaning inwardly, Shinn decided to speak up in order to divert the attention from his, er, white Pichu.

"...what happened?"

The resulting chaos that ensued as the chef tried to punch Shinn in the face only to be held back by the staff was actually loud enough to cause some patrons to turn towards the kitchen's doors, but fortunately they didn't try to barge in. In any case Shinn found out that his Pichu ruined the dinner plans that the chef laid in store for tonight, so naturally the chef was pissed off when Pichu just waltzed in and spilled a lot of things while trying to chase a fly that happened to catch its attention.

To make a long story short, Shinn got himself banned from the inn, and therefore he's now just walking around outside without a place to stay the night in. As always, his Pichu opted to curl up on its permanent place on his head, which caused Shinn to let out a small chuckle. Sure it might've been a rascal sometimes and needed discipline, but he can't deny that it has a strange capability of getting through him just by doing that. "You know," Shinn said, his left hand reaching up to his head in order to stroke the Pichu's head, netting him a satisfied "Chu~", that in turn actually caused him to snicker at the same time.

"I think I'm going to call you Luna, since you're a girl anyways."

The response he got was a resounding "Chu!" of happiness as she literally just jumped onto his hands

Timezone: United States Pacific.
Current Characters in Route: Clementine ([personal profile] willrememberthisCharacter
Name: Admiral Bobbery
Series: Super Mario - specifically Paper Mario.
Timeline: Post-Thousand-Year Door.
Canon Resource Links: Here's his page on the obligatory canon wiki - though that covers his role nicely, I understand it's a bit short and will write something up formally if you'd like.

Personality: Bobbery very much projects the classic image of a salty old dog or aging hero from a high-seas adventure story. More than just projects the image, in fact, he really is it. He's tough, he's worldly, he's brave, he's experienced yet still as gung-ho adventurous as he's ever been, there's a dash of eccentricity in there... Let's slow down a little. Bobbery lives for his life as a sailor, with his relationship with the ocean compared at least twice to his relationship with his late wife - they're "one". That the ocean is practically his second soulmate should convey on its own that he's a natural at what he does with all the toughness, life, and sense of adventure it takes to happily devote his life to it.

He's got not only everything that would be expected from someone who loves the sea but the kind of guy who can survive voyage after voyage exposed to hazards both natural and conscious. Some reference to him running a tight ship is probably appropriate here - for someone used to waiting days to get where he needs to go, he can show limited patience with others. Make no mistake, he's actually generally rather affable, even plain jolly if caught on a kind of roll, but he'd rather not put up with stalling and/or messing around breaking the flow of a misadventure that's just getting good - or simply slowing things down when anything is at stake, not only where he is concerned. He's willing to take responsibility, bullets, and blame for anyone on any crew of his. He also mentions he has a knack for smelling a rat - he's on guard for rats, hoodlums, miscreants, and hooligans. And, maybe as a product for need to keep on the lookout for pirates or just living in a place like Rogueport, he hates the lot of 'em. He's a very honest old bomb and is outspoken about his preference for others to be the same way, vocally looking down on those who withhold vital information from others and expressing unwillingness to deal with anyone shady - for example, he mentions he's reluctant to follow Mario to the Pianta mob base for a favor that would help the team reach another Crystal Star.

He's outspoken in general, actually, and on the stubborn side. That seems to come from the fact that he has a rather passionate bent that, like quite a bit else about him, hasn't even begun to dull out with age. He puts his all into every task he's put to with a burnin' vitality, he holds opinions and displays feelings on extremes, and for his undeniable toughness... he's quite sentimental, even a li'l bit of a romantic still. Just try asking him about his wife. And to go along with that, he can be fairly dramatic. Overdramatic or melodramatic, if the situation spurs it. His speech patterns might help bring that across - for a sailor from a sleazy town, he's proper, and has a not-half-bad vocabulary. That along with the fact that he's not exactly all there at times are places where he definitely shows some age in his personality.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Bobbery is, again, tough, seasoned, and adventurous - he is open to new experiences and braced for anything that they may involve, and has a level of endurance that applies in-gameplay - he has the highest base and max health levels of Mario's team, whether that's to be taken as coming from being weathered strong or from hailing from a species that defend themselves by exploding and surviving, or both. His integrity is as solid as his nerve, and he is responsible, in addition to still not being half bad at being commanding - even the notoriously full-of-hot-air, self-important Flavio will clam up and listen to him, so long as he's actually there.

He's also a bit confrontational, hard-headed, a bit easily irritated even if he isn't bad at handling it rationally (implied to be a not-so-uncommon Bob-Omb trait - they're easily "set off"), and depressive - add the last bit to the likelihood that he's a drinker with the fact that he's close friends with a bartender and, plainly, a classic sailor character and there's a recipe for another weakness. And rather than losing any of his weaknesses on coming to Route, he'll be losing strengths - as far as Bob-Ombs go, Bobbery is powerful, but that's mostly in regards to certain obvious skills that only Bob-Ombs (and, I suppose, self-destructing Pokemon) are known for, and though he'll of course be fully aware that he's lost his old natural abilities, he might still be inclined to act a little more recklessly than he should without them.

Salutations!

Bobbery is my name. Old sailor and navigator -- of some repute, so I'm lead to believe. Of Rogueport, should any of my fellow displaced travelers know it.

I'd much like to speak with anyone with whom I might make an arrangement in exchange for the Pokémon Wailmer.

I unfortunately can produce little proof of my credentials as a Pokemon trainer, at this point. I can offer that I currently have under my command a Sealeo, a Pelipper, and a Slowpoke. I'm afraid that can only claim two badges, but I assure you, they were handily won, and I should say that this "crew" pull their weight. I manage our earnings, and we should be capable of meeting any price you might ask within reason.

That ought to suffice for the moment. If you'd prefer further discussion on any count, I shall be ready to provide my end.

Whether you personally will respond or not, I am grateful for your time.

Third Person Sample: Third day in Johto. First attempt at Pokemon capture successful. Scarlette the Spheal had attained experience level 7.

And just before noon, they'd reached Cherrygrove City; since then they'd headed a short ways south to the beach, where Scarlette was rewarding herself swimming leisurely circuits between the jagged brown rocks, and Bobbery stood on the sand, their new ratty companion-to-be resting in the ball on his belt. His arms were crossed behind his back with a hint of unconscious effort to keep his posture straight - he supposed normally he had less of a back to feel an ache in, and his eye would follow the little seal's trails through the water for a while, then drift out to the horizon, where the sky and light on the water didn't glow or sparkle but shone winter bright, and a ferry boat headed out to the center of the view from the beach.

He remembered the docks back in New Bark Town with the offer of a ferry to the adjacent region, and that honestly, he'd hardly had to mull it over before leaving on foot down Route 29. He'd looked through the informational material he'd been given. Both the Kanto and Johto regions had eight gyms to challenge. He'd started in the Johto region. One step at a time. He had felt as if he'd missed out on something, however, and that was travel and transition, setting off and feeling and seeing a destination for the exploring approach. He hadn't even been on the ship before he'd found himself in the house in New Bark Town - he'd fallen asleep for the night on Keelhaul Key and woken up in a completely different climate, and completely different shape.

But frankly, the sudden, unwarned lifting from one place and dumping in another was all that made him feel remotely like he was in a completely different world and further from home than he'd ever been. He'd been transformed - he'd also been reduced to eight bits and ridden along with a human paper airplane before. He would have noticed if there was anything especially alien about the ocean, he liked to think - but it waved and caught the sun and shifted like it followed the same rules as the one back home. Even if it wasn't, he figured he could probably get just as well-acquainted with it, if he had a boat.

As far as he felt it, this was just another new territory with its own exotic wildlife.

It was, however, the most "new" he'd seen in decades. And so was his job while he was within it - he could think on experience and draw up possible places where elements of it could come into play, but his primary duty here wasn't to navigate or manage an expedition; it was to train a select squad of these unfamiliar beasties as competitors in a country-wide gladiatorial system. He'd fought a few rounds in the Glitz Pit, before, but that had been accompanying Mario.

As an adventure, this wasn't quite on the level of collecting the Crystal Stars, unlocking the Thousand-Year Door, and actually entering and seeing the Shadow Palace.

It was definitely an undeniable adventure, though, and the second one he'd gotten since meeting Mario had gotten him out of his retirement. It was probably something to appreciate that in returning to traveling at his age, the figurative tides of fate were managing to keep everything novel.

Personality: Vin is an odd girl of contradictions. Three different people seem at war within her at any given moment, the lonely street urchin, the powerful Mistborn hero and the noblewoman.

The first thing anybody might notice about her is her near constant paranoia. Even if she has grown, she’s never quite lost the habits learned from her childhood on the streets. And while she’s not longer constantly peeking around corners and under beds for knife-wielding assassins, she still has a bit of distrust for people right off the bat. How long it takes to earn her trust depends on the person and whether or not she gets a good feeling about them quickly or not, and if she gets a bad feeling about somebody it will take a long time for her to ever trust them, if it happens at all.

Vin is primarily a creature of instinct and relies on them entirely. She isn’t much for forward thinking or long term plans, preferring to dive right in and get things done. She’s a quick-thinker and very good on her feet but sometimes these quick decisions will get her into trouble.

Deep down, after a life spent alone and afraid Vin has finally had a taste of companionship and love and is horribly afraid of losing it again, a fear that has come true in Chicago, at least in the beginning. Anybody who befriends her will find a fiercely loyal and protective friend who is willing to carve a path through any danger to come to their aid. A protectiveness that recently has extended to nearly everyone in her sight as well after seeing the lengths Kelsier and the others went to make life better for a million faceless skaa. She has no mercy in her heart for people who lord their power over the powerless and abuse them and will not hesitate to bring them down however she can.

She has a blunt and straightforward personality, speaking what she believes is the truth whenever asked and often times without having to be asked. She doesn’t mince words when telling somebody what they’re doing is insane or stupid but she’s also always there in the thick of it when push comes to shove. She has a deadpan sarcastic sense of humor and can be nearly obsessively studious when a topic catches her attention.

Though she’d never, ever, admit it Vin’s time as a noblewoman has also instilled a love of the “finer” things in life in her. She secretly misses her time at court, wearing pretty dresses and dancing amid the splendor of it all. She’ll often add jewelry or other pretty things she finds (never anything metal though) and occasionally wears scents, even if she only ever wore them around Elend on her world.

Vin may not know who she’ll finally grow to be just yet but one thing is for certain: she’s already become a formidable enemy, a powerful warrior and a devoted friend.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Vin is a survivor. She knows how to take care of herself and is surprisingly capable.
+ She might be a bit paranoid, but she does have a good ability to read people. She can pick out dishonesty from a mile away.
+ She’s very quick on her feet and has sharp instincts both in people and in a fight. She’s a natural fighter and knows how to deal with bigger and stronger opponents.

- Her aforementioned distrust of people can often get her into trouble. She does tend to have a good idea of people but she can be fooled and that can get her into trouble.
- Friends and loved ones can be used against her easily. Vin is afraid of the idea of losing people and will throw herself into danger to stop it from happening.
- Less of a mental weakness but more of a physical one, but Vin is tiny. Barely five feet tall, her ability to beat larger enemies comes from a combination of skill and thinking. Locked in a contest of brute strength or one where her skill and mind are somehow negated she will lose nine times out of ten.

Starter: Riolu. I thought for awhile about this choice and haven’t come up with a better one for a few reasons. First: Vin is a fighter, first and foremost, so she would have the easiest time starting out and training a fighting Pokemon.
Second: Riolu will eventually evolve into Lucario, a combination of fighting/steel. In Vin’s canon she uses “magic” derived from certain metals to increase her fighting ability so they’re a good match, thematically.
Third: Vin’s trademark is an enhanced ability to sense when people around her are using magic. Again, this is a thematic fit with Riolu and Lucario’s status as an aura Pokemon.

[The video clicks on to the oddly distant sounds of a very confused woman shouting from somewhere far away.

It’s far away because the video is currently upside-down and on the roof of a house. Also it’s upside down. The owner of it is just in sight, a small dark-haired girl, crouching with a suspicious look down toward the window she had just climbed out of. She waits quietly until the house goes quiet before turning her attention to the mess of items laid out in front of her.]

Now, what are you supposed to be...?

[She sifts through the gear for another few seconds, giving a curious glance at the red and white balls before pocketing them and sifting through the Pokedex.]

Pokemon, huh...?

[She casts one last glance around herself before quickly packing her gear up and setting her sights on the treeline, before beating a hasty retreat down the drain pipe.]

Third Person Sample:

The music woke her up.

This wasn’t her bed, Vin knew that before her eyes had even opened her eyes. Another second or two of thought to ascertain that she was alone in the room and Vin jumped up, tossing the blankets aside and dashing to put her back against the wall to take in her surroundings.

Sunlight poured in through an open window next to the bed and she blinked, not expecting the sight that greeted her. Green plants flourished outside under the rays of a beautiful yellow sun, without even a single cloud in the sky and none of the thick, heavy ash that coated the ground she was used to. Wherever she had woken up, it was most certainly not home.

She didn't get a whole lot of time to admire the scenery when a voice called from outside the door.

"Vin, honey? You overslept." Followed by approaching footsteps.

Instantly, she was in motion. Whoever the woman speaking to her was, it was clear that she was somehow involved and between her and the door out of this house. The window seemed like the best bet and she made a beeline to it, pausing as she passed by a backpack on the floor next to the bed.

Vin paused, frowning before scooping it up and shoving the window open. A quick search of her pockets told her that she didn't have any of her metals on her. She'd have to do this the hard way....

Climbing out carefully, she managed to balance on the windowsill and reach up, snagging the edge of the roof. Grunting, she hauled herself up and over just as that bedroom door opened with an exclamation of surprise.

Quickly, she rolled over onto the roof, laying there quietly as she heard the strange women go to the window and look out, calling her name once or twice. After a long few minutes, the stranger apparently decided she was already gone and retreated back into the house.

In the clear, Vin let herself have a moment of quiet relief before getting to business and dumping the contents of the backpack out onto the roof and spreading them out.

"Now, what are you supposed to be...?

No problem! Here you go.

Character
Name: Applejack
Series: My Little Pony: FiM
Timeline: Season 3, Episode 9 (Spike at Your Service)
Canon Resource Links: Wiki
Human Form: Here

Personality: Strong and dependable, Applejack represents the Element of Honesty within her group of friends. If you’re in need, you can bet that she’ll be the first to offer her hoof, no matter what. Even if her schedule is packed beyond capacity, she’s more than happy to drop what she’s doing in order to assist a friend. However, this dependability is an offshoot of her stubbornness, as AJ has the tendency to overwork herself out of pride. The most prominent example occurs during the episode “Applebuck Season”, where she takes on her farm’s entire workload during the titular harvest season after her older brother is injured, working several days with little or no sleep, while still doing her best to help her friends in various situations, with disastrous results. Though she learned her lesson in the episode’s climax, the pony’s pride is still her greatest downfall.

A stereotypical tomboy, Applejack is as rough-and-tumble as it gets. To her, there’s nothing better than a day of hard work, and understands that getting dirty is a part of life. Living on the farm among the cattle and trees is the perfect life for her. However, don’t believe for a second that she’s just a classless cowgirl. As a filly, she left the farm in an attempt to learn her meaning in life, and spent an undetermined amount of time living with her Aunt and Uncle in Manehattan (the show’s equivalent of New York City) learning to become a debonair socialite. She was doing well, too, even going as far as learning to talk without her signature southern drawl. However, this prim and proper lifestyle proved too stressful for the young pony, and she eventually made her way back home. Still, some of the etiquette rubbed off on her, as she has no problem with scolding you for breaking rules she feels are important enough to bring up, especially when she feels you are showing disrespect. While not her element, she firmly believes that kindness begets kindness, and everyone is entitled to respect, at least initially. Rudeness, recklessness or being just plain evil will quickly get you on her short-list, where you’ll have to earn that respect back, which is no easy task.

Strengths (+) & Weaknesses (-):
(+) Strength: AJ is one of Ponyville’s finest athletes. She’s strong enough and fast enough to compete on equal terms with Rainbow Dash, who is often considered the fastest in Equestria, in physical competition. One kick from her hind legs is enough to knock every apple from a full grown tree, and she has enough endurance to keep bucking until the rest of her body quits on her.

(+) Skill: Spending nearly her entire life on the farm has given her an amazing prowess with a lasso, to the point where it almost becomes an extra set of hands – if she had hands, that is.

(+) Honesty: Widely considered “the loyalest of friends and most dependable of ponies” (her own quote), Applejack will gladly give aid to those who need it –as long as you’re respectful enough, that is.

(-) Humanity: Like it or not, Applejack is stuck as a human now. Though her skill and athleticism is still around, her pony strength is long gone. She’ll have a tough time adjusting to human limitations.

(-) Brashness: Being honest also comes with sometimes telling people things they don’t want to hear. Sometimes she’ll put these things a little more bluntly than she probably should. Also, her attention to respect will cause her to call out those who are rude or disrespectful. She’ll fight someone over it, if she has to, even if the end result pits her up against someone bigger, stronger, and meaner than her.

(-) Pride: As stated above, Applejack has a lot of pride. She holds herself in high regard, and won’t back down from a challenge. She’ll work until her body breaks if that’s what it takes for her to complete what she says she’s going to complete.

[Hello, people of Johto. Today you’re in for a treat. The journal feed opens rather abruptly, as the force of a flying Magikarp shakes the screen. A frustrated southern belle sits patiently at the shoreline, an old rod in her hand.]

Alright, y’all. What’s with all these here Magikarp? I’ve been fishin’ here all day, and the only thing nibblin’ are these useless bottom-feeders.

[She taps her chin a couple times.] Maybe if I catch one, it’ll scare the rest of ‘em away, ‘r somethin’.

[She digs though her bag, shuffling her way through the disarray inside, eventually retrieving a pokeball. Aiming at the fish that hit her pokegear, she boredly tosses the ball. It shakes a couple times, before clicking shut. Applejack bends over and picks up the ball, presenting it to the camera and speaking quickly:] Alright, y’all, listen up. This here’s Rainbow Dash. Empty headed son… [She mumbles to herself, plopping the unfortunate fish into her bag before retrieving her rod.]

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go catch me somethin’ worth seein’!

[She has no idea what she’s getting herself into.]

Third Person Sample:
It was a morning in Johto, just like any other. Applejack arose with the sun, slowing bringing herself up out of bed. Sleep still wasn’t coming to her easily. Being so far away from home put too many thoughts in her head.Worrisome thoughts. She had spent more time in bed tossing and turning than she had sleeping, and even then, her body jerked and shook with every thought in her head. Her hair was a mess, but she shrugged it off. No sense in getting cleaned up just yet, with work to do. Changing out of her pajamas, she was thankful that she was able to find a place to stay, and somewhere to work on the local farm. It wasn’t Sweet Apple Acres, but it’d do. The Miltank weren’t too far off from the cows back home, either; aside from the occasional rollout, that is.

She made her way into the barn, finding the pile of hay she had left herself the night before. She’d need to bail it up before moving it outside so the Miltank could have their breakfast. Taking a hold of the nearby pitchfork, she began to lift the hay into the bailer. Eventually, the first completed bail fell from the machine, and she set aside her pitchfork to come inspect it. Perfection was more Rarity’s thing, but it just wouldn’t be right to give those cows too small of a breakfast. Checking the sides and top to make sure everything was right, she pauses, before taking a stalk and placing it between her teeth. It was a familiar taste, one of her favorites, in fact. But it wasn’t human nature to eat hay, so it was a taste she had to do without for some time. Still, it didn’t keep the memories of home from flooding back into her mind. All the good times, the bad times, and especially her family and friends. She tipped her hat forward, shading her face from view. She would never admit it, but tears welled up in the corners of her eyes, if only for a second.

Apple Bloom, Granny, Big McIntosh… I hope y’all ‘re doin’ well…

Personality:
17 can be childish despite his age appearance. To pass the time, he would treat almost anyone and anything like it’s a game. 17 doesn't like to complete tasks easily, he preferred the challenge along the way, he’s a thrill seeker. On the mission he was assigned to go after Goku, instead of flying he decided to take a car. For him, the longer the game was, the better. He would pout if someone tried to make it simple for him. To prolong the mission, he suggested to take the car and made it to a road trip instead of flying, which would be a simple task. The only thing that would kill him was boredom.

One of the strongest traits 17 has is his sense of self. He would refuse to take orders from his creator and decided on his choices for himself. The thought of someone ordering him around would have taken away his freedom and choices. He hated it. He would also put his pride on the line even if it meant he would die. When a fight wasn’t going in his favor, he would stubbornly continue with no help. He is also respectful enough to step aside when it wasn’t his fight. He did this when his twin sister, 18, was in a match. Another spice to add into the fun, he didn't interfere until the other side did to aid 18's opponent. 17 also complimented on Piccolo on his sudden increase of strength, in a satisfied way. Even though his pride is on the line, bluffs do not affect him. When Piccolo tried to taunt him during their battle, 17 kept his head cool, and focused on what was really going on in the fight. Being a superior android, he hates to lose. Even when it’s obvious 17 will fall, he will continue to fight. not even running away is an option for him.

Even though 17 is part machine, his human emotions remain. During their travel to find Goku, 17 did not take any other lives besides Dr. Gero's. Anyone that crossed their path, 17 only slowed them down so they wouldn't interfere. Even when facing the fighters, he told them he'd rather not take their lives since they were meaningless to him. He also helped Android 16 to wake up from the 'coffin', as he called it. Despite Dr. Gero’s warning, 17 woke 16 up regardless. For someone who was to remain dormant for a long time, 17 shared the freedom as well. 17 is also pretty good at looking out for the androids, especially his sister.

When 17 encountered Cell, his world was about to be flipped. The thought of being ‘part’ with Cell sickened him. 17 was ready to fight with everything he had at that time. He even set aside his difference with Piccolo to take care of the matter. Remember, 17 has taken only one life of a human and it was Dr. Gero only. 17 even worried about Piccolo when Piccolo was badly beaten by Cell. Goes to show not all half machines are heartless bastards. Even 16 thanked them, 17 and 18, for not killing any humans during their road trip.

Cell was about to be 17’s tough opponent, and his last. 17 learned how much a struggle a fight can be, especially with his life on the line. Even if it was Dr. Gero’s will, 17 refused to be a part of Cell. Being a part of him resulted 17 to be dead.
Strengths/Weaknesses:

Most of 17's strengths comes from being physical. He is an android (cyborg actually) with unlimited energy. Without his abilities he is pretty good at holding his ground and have fighting abilities. 17's pride comes next. Even though he is built, he is proud on who he is. He even sometimes takes the role of 'leader' without realizing it. Leading his fellow androids, 18 and 16, he will come up with ideas what to do next and where to go. In battles, he makes certain no one interferes in both parties, including his own. In a sense, he's watches out for both of them.

Now that 17's body will be altered to a human form, his new trial will be to adjust to his body. He won't be taking hits hard as he used to and limited stamina. His pride can also be his downfall. His ego tends to make him full of himself, being the perfect strong creation and all. 17 believes he is stronger than anyone else and he's a sore looser. If he looses, he'll keep trying even if it means to kill him. Then there's his childish behavior, making almost anything into a game to occupy and buy him some time. He hates to rush.

Character
Name: Neku Sakuraba
Series: The World Ends With You
Timeline:
Canon Resource Links:
background one | background two
Personality:
Some may say that Neku comes off at first as biting, indifferent, and all around like he just doesn't give a damn. In part, that is true. Or at least, at the beginning of his adventure of self-discovery (also known as 'The Game's Storyline).

Neku was selected as Joshua's proxy primarily due to his chilly attitude. Neku enclosed himself in a small world where the only concern was himself. Other people did not matter. In fact, social relations were sticky, dangerous, and just something he didn't want. He had his values and he'd rather others not shove theirs in his face. He would tune out the world around him with music and pretend that behind his headphones, only he existed, and that his world did indeed end with him. As expected, he was not originally a people person, nor did he find much compassion in others. One could say he started off as a "loner" that did his own thing, suffering from the occasional "teenage angst". It wasn't uncommon for him to shut others out and tell them to get out of his face. People being close to him was problematic and he refused to connect with them, let alone have a decent conversation if he could avoid it. That was, of course, until Joshua's Game turned him upside down.

Through the three weeks of torture Neku was put through, he began to learn how to deal with both people and the world around him. Essentially, he opened up. Due to the nature of the Game, Neku was forced early on to place his trust in another. Without that trust, he'd certainly lose the Game, and his life. There was no choice. As time went on, trusting the other person - albeit a Partner or Player - became innate. They were all in this together, right? There was some sort of common humanity that made these strangers sufferable. Neku began to see these people as more than just blobs that annoyed him. They had personalities, feelings, and were making him care about their fates. Whether Neku liked it or not, his world was expanding. Whether he liked it or not, Neku was trusting them, caring about them, and befriending them.

As Neku comes from the end of the Game, he has changed a considerable deal from the prickly pear he used to be. Now, Neku believes in others, and doesn't think the world is such a biting, stifling place. People aren't so bad, and if they join together - work together, laugh together, cry together - maybe anything is possible. Or maybe he's not reached that point of optimism yet, but he's certainly no longer pessimistic. Regardless, he has friends now. Friends he believes in and seemingly would do anything for. Hurt any of his friends? You're on his bad side. Friendship, while cliché and kind of mushy and crap, is important to happiness. Vital, even. The Game taught him that, and he no longer is as adverse to social interactions. That's not to say he's the friendliest person you'll ever meet, but he isn't prone to tuning out the world anymore. Not as much as he used to be.

In the end, he took Mr. Hanekoma's advice to heart. He opened up, expanded his world, pushed out his horizons, and let others in. He's still your average teenager with a not-so-average past, he's still Neku, he's still got a love for ignoring the stifling individuals in society ... but he's warmed up. Maybe the world isn't so bad, after all.

[personal profile] sonore 2013-01-11 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Strengths/Weaknesses:
It’s a popular fan-canon that Neku is good at art, given his interest and love for the graffiti of popular artist CAT. What is known, however, is how fast of a learner Neku is.

He is quick on his feet and knowledgeable in the realm of street smarts. He’s a quick-witted kid that adjusts quickly enough under pressure. There’s evidence to support that he’s also fairly good at math—given how easily he recalls the decimal forms of squareroots.

Neku has learn to trust people, but he isn’t the most friendly and empathetic person in the world. He finds it hard to put himself in another’s shoes. He’s learning to understand people, but it’s a work in process and it is likely that his social awkwardness and previous anti-socialness may lead to problems. Neku is also incredibly skinny and while good with magical pins, he may be lacking in overall physical strength.

H-hey cut that out I’m trying to—
[ Don’t mind Neku as he fumbles with the communicator, a burst of flames appearing on the screen as orange locks of hair come in and out of focus. ] I know you’re hungry but just wait a sec—

[ Which was followed by the PokéGear Connect dropping to the ground, showing a rather lively cyndaquil climbing up on his owner, perching on his shoulder. Thankfully, his fire had disappeared for the time being, and he was currently nuzzling the young man’s cheek. ]

I really hope that’s not broken… damn… [ Despite his rather grumpy statement and crossed arms, there was a hint of a smile appearing on his face. How could anyone be mad when a cyndaquil was nuzzling you? ] Geez, you’re such a pest… [ It was spoken with a gentle warmth before Neku leaned down to snatch up the PokéGear Connect. They're surprisingly similar, what with their spikes and whatnot. ]

--Uh, sorry ‘bout that. Would someone be willing to give me a heads up on where to go from here? I’m kinda stuck walking around in a circle.

[ yeah there’s a lot of trees and Neku isn’t so great with places that aren’t cities so he just lamely tilts the PCG to show his surroundings… ] Thanks.

Third Person Sample:
There was something extremely unsettling about being away from Shibuya that Neku couldn't quite pinpoint. He figured that by now, after a week, he'd be used to this place... but it hadn't. He felt off. He felt different, out of place, and alienated all at once. Compound strange clothing with a sudden lack of pins in a dangerous world, and then add in an appearance of a fiery creature that had burnt his hand…well, it was unnerving. It had taken him a few days to warm him - pun intended - to the small creature that somehow, magically, fit inside that cramped little ball. While Neku was quick to adjust to sudden situations like these, it was proving to be a challenge.

Not like he didn't try to make the best of it, but it was hard. The fields were nice and the little towns were quaint. The creatures, which had been slammed into his head were pokemon, had been alarming at first - too similar to the Noise had had fought tirelessly for three weeks… but now he was starting to trust them like his partners from Shibuya. And maybe that was becoming exciting. There was a certain rush that came with fighting alongside his fiery new companion - a task - that he had almost missed from his time in Shibuya's Game. Then again, the very thought of missing those three weeks, that had been so hard for him, made his stomach churn restlessly.

Yes, there was something off about this place. It was difficult relying on others, especially a little monster at his side that kept accidentally singeing his clothing. The pokemarts, maybe, were the worst. Especially when he asked for his favorite snacks and things from Shibuya and the shop-girls would tilt their head confusedly.

…At least, at the very least his cyndaquil could help make awesome smores with him at night!

Character
Name: Sherlock Holmes
Series: BBC’s Sherlock
Timeline: Post Series 2
Canon Resource Links:
BBC’s Sherlock is a reimagining of the classic Sherlock Holmes stories set in a modern day. Same characters, same motivations, similar cases, but think about what Holmes could get up to if he had access to a smartphone and a modern forensics lab and you probably have a good idea of how the series goes.
For specific information:
Sherlock’s page on the Sherlock wiki - see the end of the article for individual episode summaries if you’re interested.
Wikipedia’s character entry - Less extensive than the previous link and if you have a general idea of Sherlock Holmes the character it explains the canon updates.

Personality:
There can be no doubt that Sherlock Holmes is brilliant. His skill for deduction has made him somewhat of a minor internet celebrity in his home canon. With that brilliance, however, comes a complete inability to relate to people on a normal level. He’s a self-admitted “high functioning sociopath” and whether this is a true diagnosis or merely a label he wears to avoid having to deal with the minutiae of social conventions is anyone’s guess. Able to place man’s career and home life with a single glance but completely unable to comprehend why announcing to a lovesick girl that her boyfriend is gay is inappropriate, capable of identifying 243 types of tobacco ash but forgetting that the Earth orbits the sun, his brainpower is a mess of contradictions.

He places no stock in the opinions and feelings of others, finding them foolish, slow, and unable to fathom how their brains could work at such a sluggish pace. This has changed somewhat with the introduction of John Watson in his life. While his private opinions may not be changing, his flatmate’s quick disapproving looks or polite requests to please walk the rest of the slow, shuffling masses through his massive leaps in logic is improving his manners a bit. Though without his moral compass along, its very possible he’ll find himself regressing once he enters Johto.

While we’re on the subject of John, one of the things Sherlock values most in him is that he appeals to his vanity. There is nothing that pleases our boy more than being able to show he’s clever and John’s constant praise of his abilities has done a lot to endear him to his flatmate. He tolerates those who praise him, or at least acknowledge his superiority, while mercilessly tearing down those that oppose him. His understanding of other people at least extends to understanding affection and he has no moral qualms with manipulating those who find him attractive to get what he wants. He is also adept at taking on different personas and outright lying to obtain desired information. This adds further weight to the theory that he is not a sociopath – he is completely aware of how people work and capable of empathy but simply cannot be bothered to care unless it brings him some benefit.

As far as romance, he lumps the notion, along with sex, food and sleep into the category of “not important,” particularly when on a case. He is completely mind over body and often goes without eating and sleeping for days until he simply passes out from exhaustion. This constant drive to stimulate has mind, however, has left him with an addiction problem. He was once a cocaine user, although he has since gotten clean, and also has an addiction to nicotine. The nicotine manifests itself in the occasional cigarette during times of duress but due to the shear impracticality of sustaining a smoking habit in London, he generally just uses several times the recommended amount of nicotine patches to fuel his need for the drug when thinking.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
The first and most obvious strength is his talent of deduction. There’s a reason he’s the trope for every brilliant detective that came after, he’s almost supernaturally observant and can make correct leaps in logic (i.e. in the show’s pilot identifying a victim’s origin by the mud splatter on her legs and the pattern of wetness on her coat) that defy the skill of ordinary detectives. Towards the end of being The Greatest Detective in the World he bolsters his observation skills with a good working knowledge of chemistry, forensics, biology, and cryptology.

Of course, crime solving isn’t always smooth work, particularly when one has a habit of circumventing the police. He’s accomplished the first Dan in Judo (essentially first degree black belt) and he proficient with small firearms such as revolvers. Sherlock has also proved to be a master of disguise and a talented liar, useful traits when extracting information from his witnesses. Should he need to be hands on he’s also a talented pickpocket and is capable of breaking into houses, museums, and small businesses, often by picking locks.

Sherlock plays the violin. We all need a hobby! Though here it would be questionable if the notes would even come out right. He doesn’t trust the little problem of background music not to apply to all music in this strange country.

His main weaknesses are those that deal with people. He has a very hard time comprehending relationships, from the romantic to the general need to be nice to people. John has tempered that a little but he has difficulties with some social cues, particularly when the other person is upset or grieving. Sherlock also has absolutely no knowledge of pop culture, astronomy, fashion…basically he has superhuman knowledge about anything concerning to criminals and solving crime but if it’s not related, you can bet he has never heard of it. He keeps his “hard drive,” as he calls his brain, free of anything not related to work. So you can bet he’s never heard of a Pokemon in his life, or if he’d had, he’s long since deleted the knowledge.

As a result of the events at the end of series two he has fears that he never before considered – mainly losing control and being unable to protect the few people he does care about. Sherlock is used to taking on the risk, being the center of attention and the target for danger and to put those close to him in danger is unacceptable to him. The fact that it’s bound to happen anyway does not help at all and the sensation of even caring at all about others is new enough that he doesn’t know how to cope with this yet.

He’s also quite selfish and arrogant. He’s brilliant and the best in the world at what he does and he knows it, he’s let it gone to his head. The frustrating thing is 99% of the time he’s right which rather makes it difficult for him to be taken down a peg or two. As a result he expects people like John Watson to drop everything for him because why wouldn’t they? He would if he were them. And his arrogance can blind him to mistakes, which do infrequently occur, most often when there is an unpredictable human element involved which ruins his elegant solution.

[The camera feed clicks on but it’s obvious Sherlock Holmes isn’t paying attention to it. His eyes are rapidly scanning back and forth as he takes in the information displayed on the screen and mouths the word ‘Gastly’ to himself, glancing from some space below him up to the screen and back. The view swings wildly as he clearly flips the Pokegear over, inspecting the back. A bemused looking Gastly is sitting (floating) in the detective’s lap and leans up, peering at the screen and grinning in delight to see a picture of himself.]

If you could talk you might be able to explain to me why a town that has somehow managed to bypass the invention of the combustion engine has such well-made phones.

[The Gastly possibly shrugs. At the very least its purple corona seems to slide up and down slightly, and the Pokegear is flipped back over. Sherlock’s eyes flick up to the top screen and now he seems to be studying the picture-in-picture feature and the PGC logo. His eyes narrow, impatiently waiting for some indication that this is anything more than a glorified electronic encyclopedia. The ghost in his lap is friendly enough but he needs someone he can talk to.]

This appears to be broadcasting with no issues. Is anyone watching? I need to know where I am.

Third Person Sample:

Maybe if Sherlock’s starter Pokemon had been something a little more…corporeal he might have noticed it at first. It would have been a lot more difficult to miss something cute and dog-like or even better, a distressingly large insect.

As it was, the first thing that caught his attention before he even opened his eyes was the music. He had barely enough time to wonder if he’d just been knocked unconscious by an explosion or shot – surely this was tinnitus – before he was shaken awake by a woman who was too cheerful to have the right to exist and was clearly suffering from major brain damage. And between being woken up in a strange bed by said deranged woman who seemed to think she was his mum, being all but force-fed a breakfast he didn’t want and then being shoved out the door with a heartfelt “Good luck, sweetie!” it was rather a lot to parse all at once. Now that he was sitting on a bench going through a backpack that was apparently supposed to be his, the little ghost Pokemon that had been waiting so patiently to be acknowledged decided to make his move.

The detective jolted and nearly dropped his new Pokegear as a strange pins-and-needles sensation blossomed in his arm. He looked to his right and saw what appeared to be a hovering black ball surrounded by a purple cloud nuzzling him. Or rather, it would be nuzzling him if it had a body to speak of. The cloud was simply flowing around and possibly through his arm, no doubt causing the prickling feeling. The ball turned towards him and oh look, it had a face. That would be somewhat distressing did the thing not look so very pleased. Sherlock indulged in half a moment’s thought to wonder why a creature that appeared to have no solid form needed fangs, for there were indeed fangs and they were on display as the creature smiled broadly.

“Gaaaaasss!”

Well, if it could talk properly a “hello” of some kind would have been in order there. So any attempt at obtaining answers from this…thing was likely not going to get him anywhere.

“Have you been following me?” he finally asked, gently pulling his arm away. The Gastly let it go and drifted up to Sherlock’s eye level.

“Gastly!” The creature nodded, obviously proud of himself.

“It is no doubt foolish to hope you might be able to take me to someone who can actually explain what is going on, isn’t it?”

The Pokemon gave a little ghost-shrug but moved down to nudge at the Pokegear in his new trainer’s hand. Well, not a bad idea really. It was clearly some sort of smartphone and it followed there had to be something useful stored on it.

Character
Name: Ilyasviel von Einzbern
Series: Fate/Stay Night
Timeline: Epilogue, Fate Route
Canon Resource Links: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Illyasviel_von_Einzbern
Probably Unimportant Side Note: The wiki uses double Ls to spell her name, but both spellings have been used in the various translations.

Personality: The first impression one would get of Ilya is that of a cheerful girl. She's often smiling, cheerily going through life as though she hasn't a care in the world. It wouldn't be unreasonable at first glance to think that she's a total innocent.

This could not be more inaccurate.

Well, one could argue it's sort of accurate. She is innocent in many ways due to her upbringing (more on that later), but that's not necessarily a good thing. She doesn't know all that much about interacting with other human beings, she can be very rude, and her priorities can seem very skewed at times.

Oh, and she will casually kill people without the slightest hint of remorse if she thinks she needs to, or even that it just might be a good idea.

Or rather, she'll order her obedient Servant, Berserker, to kill them. Ilya, you see, is involved in a secret battle to determine the one worthy to receive the legendary Holy Grail. The Magi involved in this war (seven of them) each summon an ancient hero to aid them in defeating the others and proving their worth as the one to gain the Grail. Ilya's Berserker is none other than Greek Mythology's Hercules, rendering her one of the most powerful and dangerous masters. And she knows this, and takes advantage of it, ruthlessly attacking any master unfortunate enough to cross her path. This is, in fact, a good explanation of how Ilya becomes when she wants something. Driven, focused, and utterly merciless in pursuit of her goal.

However, when interacting outside of the Grail War, like when two masters are separated from their servants, she's shown to be very personable and friendly, if a little bit self-centered. She takes another master, Shirou, to a park and spends a long time chatting with him about completely meaningless things, giving a hint as to how lonely and desperate for companionship she actually is...

And then she proceeds to later kidnap him and try to make him her servant. She's not exactly keen on respecting other people's opinions or rights (even if they're people she likes) or basic human morals if they interfere with what she wants. Point of fact, she's pretty much entirely amoral. Anything nice she does is purely because she wants to do it, not out of any moral obligation. Of course, that does make her remarkably honest about it.

When it comes down to it, Ilya is a lot more complex than she first seems. Innocent yet cruel, cheery yet lonely, childlike but with this ever-present hint that she knows a lot more than she's telling... It's hard to really understand her and what's going on in her mind. At least, unless you know her (horrible) backstory, which really does explain pretty much everything she does. But she ever tells anyone about that, so it's unlikely anyone ever would know. Which leaves her an enigma.

That backstory in question? Ilya's parents took part in the previous Holy Grail War. Her mother died, her father (who would later adopt Shirou) never came back, and she was told she'd been abandoned. She was then prepared to be the Einzbern master in the upcoming war for the next ten years, culminating in having her summon Berserker and bond with him. She was treated like an actual human being by no one since her parents left, and was left only with the desire to obtain the Holy Grail and to get revenge on her father for abandoning her... or just to find him again, she herself is not quite sure which she wants.

Until she finds out her father's dead, at which point she sets her sights on the boy he adopted, her little brother by adoption (though since she ages unnaturally slowly, it looks the other way around) and in her eyes, the one who stole her father's love, the aforementioned Shirou, deciding to either kill him or claim him as her own. She never does divulge to him exactly why she's doing this, at least not in this route of the game (and even in the route where she does explain things, it's not really a full explanation and it's only at the very end).

So, parental abandonment, a miserable childhood after they left, the feeling of having been replaced, and a good dose of plain old physical suffering from the strain of having to summon Berserker. It's not too surprising she ended up the way she did, really. Point of fact, she's a lot less unhinged than one might expect.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Remarkably good at keeping secrets. In the end, all anyone ever finds out about her is what she wants them to know.
Can be extremely determined if it's for something she really wants. To the point of kidnapping and murder for her goals (though those two crimes weren't actually related)...
Mentally resilient. She's been through a lot in her life. The fact that she can still smile so easily is remarkable. Though admittedly-

Weaknesses: Somewhat of a Stepford Smiler. That smile she often wears can be as much to hide her pain as to show genuine joy, though this isn't always the case.
Emotionally volatile. That's not to say that she flip-flops between emotions randomly, but when she feels something, she feels it hard, be it happiness, sadness, anger, or anything else.
Physically weak. She has the body of a twelve-year-old girl, she's not going to win any wrestling competitions.
Poor at dealing with the outside world. She was never really well-socialized, and has difficulty interacting with other human beings.

Pokémon Information
Affiliation: Rocket Grunt
Starter: Rhyhorn (Level 15), Duskull (Level 5)

Samples
First Person Sample: It's too cold outside.

[Arms folded over her chest, Ilya is glaring at the snow outside of the cafe she's sitting in. Her staring contest with the weather is interrupted by a Duskull floating behind her and yelling "Boo!" in her ear. She jumps remarkably high for such a small girl.]

Gah! [Whirling around, she glares balefully at the floating ghost.] That wasn't funny, Orpheus! Do I need to let Berserker out to teach you some manners?

[The Duskull's eyes widen at this threat, and it slinks back, shaking its face back and forth. Ilya scowls, but relents.]

Hmmph! Then stop misbehaving! I'm your master, and you're supposed to obey me like a good Pokemon, not sneak up and scare me like that!

[Pausing, she raises a finger to her chin in thought.] Oh, wait, it's "trainer", not "master", isn't it... I'll never get used to that.

[She sighs, sits down, and goes back to staring out the window forlornly. Orpheus looks at her with wide red eyes for a moment before leaning in to try to comfort her. She lifts a hand and pats his head gently.]

Ah, I was going to say something, wasn't I? Um... What does everyone here do when it's too cold to go outside?

[The feed clicks off after that, the last sight being of Ilya's downhearted face.]

Third Person Sample: There was nothing more fun than riding Rhydon-back, in Ilya's opinion.

On top of such a huge, mighty creature, she felt invincible. It was just like having her Berserker back with her... which of course was why she'd named her loyal Pokemon after him. It was like bringing a little piece of home with her, an important piece, and while she'd never tell anyone, that was comforting.

As they crashed through the forest, Berserker gave no heed to the numerous trees and plants it ended up crushing underfoot. Nothing could stop his run save a full-grown tree, and it was deftly avoiding all of those. Ilya continually crowed in glee and demanded he go faster, so of course that was precisely what he did.

Suddenly they burst out onto the path, right in front of a couple of Joggers. Ilya paid them no mind, even when they both slipped and fell on their rumps rather than crash headlong into the running Rhydon, and then proceeded to start yelling at her, demanding that she watch where she was going. She was having far too much fun to be distracted by something so petty.

"Don't stop, Berserker!"

The cry was pretty much completely unnecessary, as the Rhydon seemed to be having just as much fun as his trainer, but it was just fun to her, shouting out like that and having her Pokemon so readily obey.

They ran down the path for a while, and Ilya leaned back on Berserker's neck and watched the sky go past. It was lovely today, pure blue and warm... it was so nice to have it stop being winter, though of course she'd miss the snow, as always.

Still, with any luck, she'd be around for another winter after this. She had no intention of going home. If anything, she hoped that the few people she missed from it would come to her.

Of course, that wasn't her choice to make, but then, very little had been, when it came down to it. There'd always been just one person she could command.

"Don't ever stop..." Well, now there were two, even if they weren't quite "people". And soon, there would be more.

Much more. She wanted as many Pokemon as she could get her hands on. They would make wonderful servants.

And, if she was really lucky... maybe friends, too.

[personal profile] spotted 2013-01-12 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Though most of her game personality can be attributed to the Spot that's taken over her body, there's no doubt that the fierce determination and spirited way that she goes about things (although "spirited" in an entirely different way now, vs. when she was younger) was present before her change. As stated before, before being completely taken over by the Spot, she had been a sweet girl and one of Lukius' only friends (or, rather seriously his only friend), although the longer the Spot inhabited her body the less she was truly herself until only the Spot remained. Spots are ruthless and don't care for anyone, and as such Rommy is the same way. Her Spot in particular, having control over a bright and promising young Priest Soldier, is rather arrogant, and is extremely sure of its side's victory - so, naturally, when things go awry Rommy gets angry, as anyone whose plans were threatened would be. Although, anger-- that goes into another part of this, that being:

Rommy, as she's now a Spot, can't grasp human emotion the way she used to. Positive human emotion is particularly hard to understand and, in the end, she really doesn't care for it. She doesn't care to learn or feel compassion or love or anything like that; the most positive emotion she lets in is Happiness, and that's reserved for the possibility of another gate opening to her homeworld rather than anything we, as humans, would feel happy about (like, say, your best friend going along with Life Magic to attempt to free your body and mind from an ugly, malicious monster that has taken over you for the last few years). She also has no regard for human life; she kills rather indiscriminately, but always waits until she's drained every last piece of information from the people she's talking to to kill them. It's part of her job to do at least that - although it isn't part of her job to actually kill the people without the consent of her co-leader Lukius.

(She does it anyway because she doesn't care what he thinks; she, as a Spot, will do whatever she wants - and besides, they're worthless pieces of trash once their use has run out. This matches with her Heretic Prosecutor mask - her and Lukius are so above the normal populace that showing their faces to such trash (in Rommy's eyes) isn't required.)

Rommy's also rather opportunistic; if she sees a chance to turn someone to her side or against their friends she'll take it. Likewise, she jumps at any chance to demand and try to steal the group's Pensient(s), even if it ends up exhausting her. She gives it her all when trying to defeat the party (which impresses Lukius -- that anyone could get her to try that hard, as she doesn't usually waste all her power on trying to get one little Pensient). She's a little obsessive over the Pensients as well (but wouldn't you be a little obsessed if it guaranteed you a way back "home" -- or a way to turn that world into a world of Spots and make it your new home?) and it's one of her major downfalls and the cause of her death (as she uses her full power as a Spot to try and take the party down -- and still tries to win despite the fact that if she's killed in her Spot form then she'll actually die).

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:
Physical: She can teleport and, despite being such a petite young girl, is used to travelling (due to being a Priest Soldier). She's evidently extremely strong as well, as she and the troops tend to do most of the fighting. She's efficient with staves and generally makes up for the elements Lukius doesn't have (Fire, Water, and Light - most notably the first), casting a small range of spells from Icicle to Meteor Storm (Rubia's artes list is probably a good estimate of what she's capable of, adding on Meteor Storm and-- probably less of the higher-level Light spells). In her Spot form, she is nigh impenetrable and resistant to spell interruption, making for a more arduous fight than the first two.

Emotional: Rommy is extremely strong emotionally; she rarely breaks and when she does, it's only for a short while and is brought on by unseen circumstances (such as being beaten at the Eastern Gate), and it's usually some form of anger. She doesn't know human emotion - just an intense want/need to get back to where the Spots are from, although she sincerely feels content/pleased at the prospect of killing people, or actually from killing them. She's good enough of an actor to pretend that she's working for the Pope and the good of Areulla instead of for her own purposes (and for the King). She can pretend to be kind but have no real feelings about it; she probably wouldn't go far enough to pretend she's in love with someone, considering that Spots have no idea what love is/feels like, but the fact of the matter is she likes to pretend she has emotions to people she doesn't know.

Mental: Rommy is a Spot that knows exactly what to say to turn people against each other. She's not extremely skilled in speaking, nor is she above to letting her emotions get the better of her, but she does have a tendency to be able to turn people against each other (mostly notably seizing the chance to tell Rubia about how terrible Lycanths were so she'd be too afraid to go back to Caius & co.). She's-- opportunistic, that's the word, but she's also fairly intelligent (you don't get chosen to be one of the two leaders of the Heretic Prosecutor Party by being dumb, after all). While she does follow orders, she's smart enough to trick the Pope and Lukius into believing she's working with them instead of with the King.

Weaknesses:
Physical: Unfortunately, she also has limitations. She doesn't tire out quickly per se, but she'll definitely be drained after a hard battle. Also, as she's basically become a Spot wearing the illusion of a little girl, she's strengthened by how close her (the Spot's) homeworld is... and since Route is an entirely different world, not to mention universe, she'll be far weaker than she's used to being.

Emotional: Of course, not knowing about human emotions/not feeling them period is a problem too. Rommy doesn't know what "compassion" or "gratitude" or anything like that; those are positive human emotions, and as Spots aren't positive nor human, she'd never be able to understand why people feel the way they do. She probably wouldn't even be able to fathom love (although surely she's felt it before, before the Spot completely took her over) or why someone would feel that. She doesn't understand why, in the end, Lukius chooses to help his brother over helping her (considering he had done so well with helping her before) and she doesn't understand why Caius & co. are so set on stopping her and the King.

-- Well, maybe that's not true; she understands that they don't want to lose their world to Spots, but she doesn't care.

Mental: Unfortunately, as stated, she does tend to let her emotions get the better of her sometimes and that's when things slip out. Being a Spot, also, makes her significantly less inclined to doing anything on her own will aside from murdering people when she's done with them; she's a monster (an abomination) and she'll follow orders on whoever's side she's on as long as they can manage to convince her they're going to help her get back to the Spots' home. She doesn't question them for one second - not when it's "kill all the Lycanths" or "capture these brats" or "Pensients are needed" - and she doesn't care to question them.

Character
Name: Minamimoto Sho
Series: The World Ends With You
Timeline: Post-canon
Canon Resource Links: Wiki page

Personality: He's a cheerful megalomaniacal sociopathic mathematical genius with psychotic tendencies, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and a maths fetish. He's arrogant as hell, and smart enough not to show it most of the time. He'll happily play with people's heads until he's bored and then might or might not hurt them physically.

His megalomania is shown primarily in his desire to topple Joshua and take over the role of Composer for himself; he gives every indication of not giving a damn about the Game except as it allows him to get closer to Joshua. His mathematical genius is a canon point, most of his quotes are somehow related to mathematics and he is completely obsessed over making jokes that only a mathematician would notice, let alone understand. Psychotic tendencies are expressed in his apparent detachment from the reality of his situation in many aspects, including but not limited to the fact that he refuses to allow the other Reapers to Erase Players despite the fact that without doing so they will die. His OCD shows up both in his irrational, obsessive "sculptures" made out of trash - which he claims are a "precisely calculated form of art" and his habit of breaking into pi at random (specifically in the middle of his own monologue).

Sho repeatedly shows his arrogance, he blows off his superiors, he ignores his underlings, he spends more time toying with Neku (and Josh) than he does actually fighting them. Some of that is to put his Taboo Noise plan into action, but some of it is just the feeling that he's that much better than everyone else.

It'd be easy to say that Sho doesn't realise his rather unique problems, but the truth is he does...he just doesn't care. While, in a vague way, he'd like to 'get' what people see in emotional relationships it's not a big focus in his life and is easily and often buried under his short attention span and overwhelming curiosity. He can't stand not knowing something that other people know, to the point where he will throw himself into stupidly dangerous (and just stupid) situations in order to gather the information if it's not offered. He tends to trust to his powers to keep him safe. His ego won't admit anything else. That's going to trip him up a lot, not having those powers.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Fears:
•Losing more of his mind. He's missing a lot already and it drives him crazy to know that he used to be more than he is now.
•Being Erased (perma-death). Dying itself doesn't bother him, he's done it too often. Becoming nothing, though? That bothers him.
•Losing control of the situation.
•He will never admit it, but he's afraid of Joshua.
•Any one or thing that proves able to suppress his abilities.

Weaknesses:
•He's easily distractable with mathematics or puzzles.
•He has zero defences against "area attacks", even ones that can be somehow shielded against.
•Being physically struck with intent to harm will lead to automatic teleporter-pinball.
•He often out-thinks himself and fucks himself over by trying to be too fancy.
•The OCD is an easily exploitable weakness.
•So's the megalomania.
•Experimental drugs in his system/unstable genetic tweaking

Mundane Strengths/Abilities:
•He really is a genius, especially with mathematics.
•He knows how to fire a gun. (Not that it's. Pertinent here.)
•His grip on practical physics is up there in the genius level too (such as use of slingshots, trebuchets, etc.)
•He's pretty damn good at cobbling things together out of found items.
•He's really really resilient.
•"Master Strategist" defines him really well, but "out thinks himself" happens just as often.

Great. It landed in the long grass. Are you proud of yourself, you little numeral?
Purrrloin.
Of course you are.

Third Person Sample:
The truth of the matter is that Minamimoto Sho wass not suited for being out in the wild, nor for working with small animals. Or, to be honest, working with large animals. Or working with anything. He was from a big city and, as far as he could remember, he'd never been out of a big city. The grass was weird, there were noises that weren't traffic or people. He was fairly okay as long as it was day, but come the night? The only reason that the once-Reaper wasn't jumping like a rabbit was the fact that doing so would require him to show vulnerability in front of his travelling partner and his Pokémon.

Purrrloin was a mixed blessing in Sho's mind. On the one hand the creature was wilful, disobedient, loud, and mischievous. On the other hand it was a warm lump at night and when the strangeness of everything got to be too much it tended to cuddle up with him. Of course half the time it did so in order to get it's paws into his pockets...but he really couldn't object too much.

The entire concept of going out to catch more things didn't make sense to him, but that was apparently What Was Done, and his ego wouldn't let him do anything else. He'd figure this out, he'd get good at it, and he'd demonstrate his ability to survive anything.

As the fire burned lower, with Purrrloin curled up in his lap, Sho considered the future. The past was past - he couldn't do anything about it now. If he got back to Shibuya he'd get back to trying to kill Joshua. For now, though? For now he had plans to make and things to learn. It could be worse. His usual smile was nowhere to be seen, the young Reaper was thinking, and planning.

One hand stroked his sleeping Purrrloin, the other one absently tapped out a Fibonacci sequence while he worked on the current plan.

Character
Name:  Belphegor
Series: Umineko no Naku koro ni
Timeline:   Just after taking a shot to the chest after losing the duel with Rudolf
Canon Resource Links: Belphe's Umineko Wikia Page, The Stakes of Purgatory, Belphegor vs. Rudolph in the anime

Affiliation:  Trainer

Personality:   Of the Seven Stakes of Purgatory, Belphe is the fourth, making her the middle child.   Unlike her sisters, who tend to embody aspects of their sin,  Belphegor sets herself apart by being unusually hardworking despite representing Sloth.   While, at face value, it may seem strange, there is a method to her madness.  Unlike such sins as Envy, Wrath, and Pride, which run rampant in nearly every human,  the conditions for sloth must be created by removing the need for those around her to do anything at all.  For this reason, Belphegor attempts to take control of and become the sole worker/provider for those around her in any situation she is placed in.

The other stakes often tease Belphe for her stern nature and accuse her of being a killjoy, but she is firmly of the belief that the path to victory is paved with hard work.   She does not begrudge her sisters in their method of doing things, as long as she, likewise, is left to tend to her duties as she sees fit.    This is not to say she is an endless bastion of patience, however.   If she finds her work deliberately obstructed or threatened by one of the other stakes, she is known to get viciously territorial.

She is loyal to Beatrice The Golden (whomever may hold the title at the time) and will uphold what is expected of her.   Her job has included being summoned to end the lives of humans that Beatrice has judged to be guilty of Sloth, but she does not need to be ordered to kill to act.   If she deems something to be a threat to her Master or someone in her Master's favor, she will not think twice about striking.   She does, however, prefer victims of the calm and cool-headed sort as, to her, they are much more delicious prey.

Despite her ways of approaching her work, Belphe is not the collected ice wall she often appears.  When in the company of the other stakes, especially, she is prone to falling into whatever emotion is sweeping the rest of the group and can be found cowering in fear in the face of being denied, or happily kyaaing and cuddling up to Sakutaro.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+  A Hard and Dedicated Worker - Belphegor takes her tasks in utmost seriousness, especially if it's an order handed down to her by her superiors.  She will complete it swiftly, skillfully, and (preferably) without anyone else's assistance.

+ / -   Self-sacrificing - Both a strength and a weakness.  She will do anything within her means for her master, up to and including laying down her life to protect her.  While noble, her lack of self preservation does her no favors.

+  Patience - When allowed to operate on her own and not caught up in the collective girlsquee of her sisters,  Belphe is hard to fluster.    When faced with a difficult job or people, she will remain persistent and collected

-  Softspoken - While she's rather good at being that small, deviously-soothing voice assuring you that resting just a little longer is perfectly fine,  Belphe's quiet nature often makes any reasonable points she may come up with easily lost in the other six stakes' chaos.

- Killjoy - At least, that's the way her sisters see it.  Belphe often takes things more seriously than they need to be taken

+  Persuasive - Just relax...she'll handle everything gently.

- Needs to be Needed - This has nothing to do with romance.  Belphe more or less insists on those around her putting their faith in her ability to do everything.  She does not work well with independent folks or those who believe she's incapable.

+ Respectful of Worthy Opponents - Even when victory is surely hers, she is willing to pause and grant someone a dying wish out of appreciation for their having the nerve to challenge her in the first place.

+ / Honest - Belphe tends toward honesty which is seen as both rare and impractical in witch's furniture.    She respects the given rules, even when others would undermine them to take advantage of her, and can be trusted to tell you what's what without worry she may be lying to you.

First Person Sample:

CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH.

[Hello, Johto.  Have you ever wondered what a Munchlax's molars might look like?  If so, you are being afforded a rare opportunity at the moment]

--though if I were made to estimate, I would say we'll reach the next city in two days' time at this rate.

[in the muffled background, the smooth alto of a young woman's voice can be heard as she discusses directions with someone]

CRUNCH  SNAP

Beelze, what have you got there?

[There's a snort of alarm, followed what sounds like an attempt to flee that's cut off in short order.  The dark cavity of the pokemon's mouth is replaced by the light of day as a blur that might be a face peers at the camera.]

That's not for you to eat.   [the rich calmness in the voice is momentarily displaced by irritation as a red sleeve wipes at the lens, clearing away the film of pokemon slobber]     It's as if you're never fed at all...

[A bit of buffing and the lens seems to be as good as new, focusing on a red-eyed female's face peering critically into it to assess the damage.   Seeming satisfied that the Gear is fine, its view shifts away from her, focusing on what seems to be a random patch of open field]

I don't enjoy having help, but if you are, indeed, to assist me then surely you can see how things like this will only reflect badly on the both of us.   Do as I say, and I will make sure things are made as easy as possible for you.

[A long pause follows, as she seems to expect an answer to this proposal.   Instead, there's rummaging and furious munching to be heard.  An empty container that had once held a bento lunch clatters across the camera's field of view, which jolts and then the ground begins to move at a brisk pace beneath it as Belphe breaks into a run toward her knapsack currently being ravaged for edibles.]

Kyaaa...I said no...!

Third Person Sample:    "As proper furniture, understand that I will fight not only for my own honor, but for that of Lady Beatrice as well.   I will allow you this opportunity to surrender quietly."   the acoustics of the gym lent her soft tone of voice an unusually-ominous presence as she stood off with the young gym leader on the opposite side of the mat.

"Surrender?"  Falkner asked, quirking a brow and then bursting into laughter.  "I hope that wasn't your winning strategy.  Do you think I became Violet City's best by handing over a badge to anyone who threatened me?  If you want your victory, come and get it."

Of course, she hadn't truly expected him to give up right off the bat.   Humans seldom did things the easy way if there was even the smallest possibility they may pull off a victory.    They often came around quickly once they were made to feel pain, however, as Belphegor had learned from vast experience.   Had Beatrice been here, it went without question she would want this man punished with his own defeat merely for daring to declare himself the best in the presence of the Golden Magic.  As she was not, however, it fell to her furniture to ensure that it happened for her and the middle sister, by now, knew her place well.

A smile curved her lips as a hand went to her belt, unholstering one of the pokeballs she had brought.      "This doesn't need to be painful.  It will be over quickly."

"Quickly, eh?"    In a flash, three pokeballs had been withdrawn and flung to the gym floor in an explosion of white light.  A Noctowl, Honchkrow, and Pidgeot took substance in a fluttering of wings, falling into formation at Falkner's side as they awaited orders.    "You don't scare me, little girl.   Bring it on!"

His answer made the slight smile on Belphegor's mouth grow in volume, becoming less a gentle smirk and more the grin of something truly evil as her grip on the pokeball tightened.   Still so perfectly calm, even when staring his own downfall right in the face.    This would be most enjoyable.

Timezone: AEDT.
Current Characters in Route: Laguna Loire.

Character
Name: Razputin Aquato, but his friends call him Raz.
Series: Psychonauts.
Timeline: Post-game, with Route memories from his last visit.
Canon Resource Links: Psychonauts Wiki, on Raz.

Personality: From all outward appearances, Raz seems like an average 10-year-old boy. And, you'd be pretty much right. He's friendly, but won't stop himself from playing a playful prank or give a childish taunt, and has a semi-simple view of the world. I mean, one which is less complex them some people out there. He'd help you out if you needed it, even if you'd been cruel to him before. Though this doesn't mean he doesn't make enemies -- oh, no. It's just that it's hard to make enemies with him. Unless you're doing pretty evil things, and even then he'll forgive you if it was the fault of mental problems. (Which is another important part of his character -- he's quite skilled with helping people by entering their minds and beating up/solving their problems, but he's not the best outside of that. What do you expect, I don't feel he understands everything he's seen so far.)

He's quite mentally developed for his age, however. This shows in his powers -- his mind was unable to be proved in the beginning of the game, and that's pretty rare. He's also the sort not to follow orders, most of the time. If you tell him not to go somewhere, you bet he's gonna go there if he wants to, even if he's going over his head. He's overconfident like that. But the opposite occurs -- if you don't listen to him, he's gonna get frustrated with you.

Raz is the sort to work for his goals and dreams, even if you don't want him to. After all, he did run away from the circus to go to psychic camp, and he did refuse to listen to his father when he told him to not focus on his powers. At the same time, he very much goes off and takes on too many responsibilities, and won't listen to reason about some things. If he likes something, he loves it. And that fueled his semi-obsession with the Psychonauts, and also fueled his running away from home. Another reason he wanted to join, is so he could do something with his life. Something to note about his world -- the children seem very grown up. They've all decided their lives -- I suppose that comes with being a psychic, and having a destiny. But anyhow, Raz dreamed of being a Psychonaut, and still does. Heck, what he's experienced has most-likely added to his wanting to join.
But just don't bring up the Psychonauts with him. He will not stop talking about them, and he would love to show off his powers. That is, if he still had them. Losing his powers in Johto will most-likely make him a little sad, to be honest.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Raz has some really strong psychic powers. Like, they're really really powerful. Not only that, but he's a fast learner as well.
+ Did I mention his friendliness? Because that's really a good strengh, especially for such a young boy.
+ Even without psychic powers, Raz is really acrobatic and fit, due to his upraising.
+ Enthusiam like a 10 year old boy is one of the things that Raz is full of, and is a huge strength. If it's something fun, you bet he's there!
+ Being the protaganist of a Double Fine game, Raz has a wicked sense of humour, and is a jokester. So he's the sort of cheering-up guy you need.

- Raz is deadly afraid of water, due to a gypsy curse which kills his family if they enter water. Even though he spent a while in Route, he still has this fear, and will probably take a long time to complete the league.
- He's also only young, unable to comprehend all the things that he's seen, though he insists he can.
- Like most 10-year-old boys, he will not enjoy having to work hard, especially for Team Rocket.
- The fact he wants to take a lot of things on for himself is a bit of a downside as well, especially since he's not full of power here. He'll feed sad when he can't go and stop Team Rocket all by himself, for example.

Pokémon Information
Affiliation: This time, Raz will be a trainer.
Starter: I wish for Raz to reclaim his Gardevoir from last time, R, and so I must justify this, right?
WHY COME RALTS?
Well, the most stupid reason is because Ralts has that helmet, kind of like Raz. And it likes keeping its eyes hidden - just like Raz and the goggles! Of course, this falls apart when it evolves, but whatever.
But there's deeper reasons. Ralts, and mostly Gardevoir, are psychics who are closely connected to emotions. The Psychonauts, of which Raz is one, are a group dedicated to fixing emotional and mental problems. As such, the two compliment their (canon) abilities quite well. Psychics in general would suit Raz, but R was also his close friend last visit - a child who he hatched and raised. Well he didn't raise him, but whatever.
Ralts are also seen as rare and talented (mostly by fandom and also Wally) even though they're quite young and unexperienced, and Raz is said to be a very talented Psychonaut, even though he's quite young and unexperienced at the start of Psychonauts, and even at the end, it's clear he has a lot to go though. So, basically, they suit each other due to their powers and appearances.
Password: Scrambled Eggs.

Samples
First Person Sample:
[Raz turns on his 'gear, looking a bit dissapointed under his firmly-attached googles. He'd tried to make a phonecall, you see, and failed.]
I guess Agent Nein found his own way out of here, while I was busy being away. [Yeah, he's a bit upset. But Raz then stretches, and lets out a yawn.] In any other situation, I'd expect to be tired after missing over a year. But this land is full of mystery and suspense! Who knows, I might have actually been sent here, I might not have just been sleeping for a while! It wasn't like when I slept and went home, that's for sure.
[Theories, theories. Hey, he's a Psychonaut, he has a lot of theories out there. He then gives a bit of a nod behind him, to R, who's currently hovering the 'gear.]
Anyway, I'd like to get back to challenging the league as quick as possible. Even if it's not the way home, those HMs and the abilities granted will be helpful in finding my way. Plus, it'll make my team stronger.
Anybody have a spare flier to Violet?

Third Person Sample: Raz wasn't one for getting bogged down in his own emotional baggage. That seemed to be the case for many Psychonauts, didn't it? But during his last stay here, he'd grown attached to friends of his, and they were now... long gone. Was it his fault, for vanishing?

...Nah. He couldn't help it if he vanished and dissapeared for ages. Could he? Raz felt his hands shaking, as he walked though the soft grasses of Route 29 - maybe he'd done something to vanish, maybe he'd stepped somewhere wrong as he rushed to meet with his work-mate and partner, maybe...
A few Sentret and Pidgey noticed the boy, but were deflected by his overpowered starter, letting out psychic blasts as Raz pondered his own questions.

At least there were some of of the people who knew him. And who knew? If he had reappeared, others might. Agent Nein... maybe even Coraline? But people tended to get amnesia, from what he'd gathered... would they even remember being here before? It didn't really matter... Raz would be able to explain what was doing on... but still.

But then, quite suddenly, Raz stopped still - R stopping moments afterwards.

"Hey, R? Look there. At that cliff - that's the one."

The Gardevoir turned, and looked to where Raz was pointing - it was a ledge, the sort you'd see all over Johto... and the new land, Johto. "Those 'ledges' have perplexed travellers for ages. Perhaps while we're heading to Cherrygrove, we can try and see what sort of psychic powers control them!" Raz said, excitement in his voice. "We'd just need to...

Need to..."

Actually, though Raz did want to solve this, he didn't know how yet. Maybe if he could ask on the network... that was it, of course! With a bit of an excited click of his fingers, Raz looked up at his travel friend and starter. "When we get to Cherrygrove, let's try and recruit some of our otherworldly friends. If we get enough, we can crack this mystery - and it might lead to a better understanding of this world."

Any normal boy would have found this strange. But Raz wasn't a normal boy - he was a Psychonaut. Now, all he needed to do was to get to Cherrygrove, and his plan would start...

Character
Name: Philip/Raito Sonozaki.
Series: Kamen Rider W.
Timeline: Between episodes 18 and 19.
Canon Resource Links:
Philip on the Kamen Rider wiki.
Kamen Rider W/Double on the Kamen Rider wiki.
List of Kamen Rider W Episodes.

Personality:
Philip thinks very highly of himself--and why shouldn't he, when his brain is practically Google and a supercomputer rolled into one? He is used to having knowledge at his fingertips, and since he is quick to calculate a situation, Philip is rarely ever off--at least from a factual standpoint. Because of this, however, he tends to take affronts to his skills, or to his crime-fighting alter ego Kamen Rider W (Double), with annoyance, though more often than not he does not get nearly as offended as his partner, Shoutarou Hidari. Also due to the ease of which he can gather information, it really throws him off when he discovers that he can't. He becomes even more obsessive over it than usual, and makes blunders such as flubbing an attack or walking straight into a door since he's so distracted. Philip also will get more whiny the longer he is kept from what he's trying to research, and will do irresponsible things like leaving unfinished business between Kamen Rider W and the opposing Dopant as long as it means he can go back to accomplishing his goal of gaining knowledge.

With all the time he spends researching, he frequently finds regular life--and the regular people in it--rather lacking. Other people just don't have the same stimulating effect on him as his books, though with Shoutarou's emotions and Akiko's odd way of thinking he is more open to them. It's through them and Wakana Sonozaki slowly opening herself up to him through talks of being true to oneself that he learns to find humans tolerable and even sometimes a joy to be around. Even so, he is more likely at his canon point to take hard facts over joking along with some average joe, and wouldn't be afraid to tell someone that he's had enough of them.

As he learns to be more human, Philip not only comes to love the city he protects, but the people in it, as Shoutarou does. At the point he is taken from, he is still struggling with his apathy, as shown just a few episodes after the chosen canon point. When a policeman who normally detests their agency comes in with a request, Philip does for a moment find his desperation intriguing. After discovering it is simply a desire to impress a new lady around the office, he dismisses it as not worth investigating, returning to a flat, uncaring expression. The closer he is to a person, the more likely he is to take emotions into consideration when deciding if something is of interest. With Shoutarou, he will often submit to ideas he presumes will be reckless, as his partner has proven himself in the past to come through in the end. It's through that trust and curiosity that he relents more than once throughout the series, eventually coming to view this style of personality with affection.

With his childhood memories stripped from him and having been kept away from the world at both the company run by the Sonozaki family and (though at a lesser extent) the Narumi Detective Agency, it's no wonder that Philip's social skills are rather unpolished. Throughout the series he becomes more personable through his interactions with others, but he tends to lean towards the negatives of a situation or to dismiss things as 'boring' or 'in the way'. The only person he trusts blindly is Wakana, due to the feelings of a connection not having left him when his memories were taken. Even his faith in Shoutarou, his partner and the person closest to him, is sometimes tempered by circumstance, as Philip feels he is too 'half-boiled' and swayed by emotions.

Philip tends to get far too absorbed in his research, often to the point of unhealthiness. When he finds a subject to study, he exhausts the information to its fullest, ignoring other issues until then. This causes him to not only hinder the process of catching a culprit, but forget about much more mundane things like eating, sleeping, basic hygiene, and how he's not supposed to write on walls. These are things that don't particularly appeal to him, as they are such a natural process in life, and so even when he's not completely immersed, they tend to slip his mind unless forced onto him by Shoutarou or Akiko. In the same vein, when he researches how fighters get into shape--and the specific part of their routine where they lose weight--he goes into a weight loss craze until he becomes, as he claims, only 10 kg/around 22 lbs above the weight of a mosquito (entirely possible, as Philip isn't exactly a regular 'human'.) At the end of the next episode (as a case they work on takes two episodes to complete), he does the opposite, bloating up in weight due to his discovery of and subsequent studies on mochi.

A side effect of the previously mentioned traits is that, when confronted with an extremely common issue that he doesn't know about due to his 'upbringing', Philip becomes fairly obsessive over it. Things like 'how to get assured wins while gambling' are of importance, naturally, but that's not nearly as intriguing as takoyaki. And man, St. Bernard dogs. Hey, have you heard about this fascinating place called Mt. Fuji? That's where the hype's at. With the nature of most of his research, these ordinary things are seen by him as great treasures in the quest for knowledge, as he's certain they haven't come up because they are rare. Philip is shown to be more excited about sharing these findings than what usually comes up during their cases, eager to teach those around him about what's obviously a lesser-known nugget of information. Once he is through, however, these too are likely to become mild annoyances if they are brought up in the hopes of stirring his interest. He's already learned and moved on to the next thing.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Loyal.
+ Analytic.
+ Intelligent.
+ Efficient.
+ Fast learner.
+ Quick on his feet.

+/- Prideful.
+/- Childish.
+/- Overly enthusiastic about interests.
+/- Goes with the situation that is assumed to bring the best results.

- Blunt.
- Lacks tact.
- Obsessed with research.
- Fickle in interests.
- Impatient.
- Pretty much doesn't know how to take care of himself.
- Physically weaker than others.

Ah. A multi-functional communication device. Perfect. [It doesn't stop this guy from looking any less irritated, though...] There have been...things taken from me. I wish for them to be returned and for me to be sent home immediately. Additionally, if those by the names of Shoutarou Hidari and/or Akiko Narumi have been transported as well, please direct them to me.

ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED
THANK YOU

Third Person Sample:
It really was hard to keep a job, when all your previous experience at it only involved looking up information and occasionally punching people in the face--though even that part of it was mainly Shoutarou's work. Philip had always been more the kind to dive into the Gaia Library to flip through page after page of the earth's information, narrowing down the results bit by bit until he got the answer they were looking for. The mental half.

And boy, was he sure going mental.

Philip's initial choice of working at the store hadn't gone so well, to put it lightly. Being kept out of the focus had been easy enough, but it wasn't long before working as a stock clerk had been shown to have its own drawbacks. Such as the fact that Philip was absolute rubbish at lifting heavy objects. His frequent breaks--the physical labor aggravated his already-out-of-shape back--were enough to be noticed by the boss, and not in a positive way. As easy-going as most of the residents were, these ones didn't hesitate to fire him for not pulling his weight. He was a researcher, not a lifter. Perhaps being behind a desk would be a better option for him, as unused to actually appearing in front of people he was.

So, naturally, he had applied for Cerulean Inn's front desk position.

It could be interesting, he thought; I'll gather data, he thought. As it turned out, the hotel manager didn't actually appreciate his badgering of the guests for answers. His job, as he was sternly reminded, was to answer the questions presented to him by customers of the establishment. Well, certainly that would be easy. It was what he did back home!

"These people are extremely unexciting," Philip soon found himself mumbling, slipping another bit of food down to the Porygon hiding below. It beeped--first in appreciation of the snack, and then again in a tone that suggested it agreed with him. "They do not have the same intriguing thought processes as those back home. I am beginning to see that Aki-chan was truly a genius." He'd been approached with the question 'are the breakfasts here continental' at least four times, now, and no matter how dull he found this, he still hadn't figured out what the heck it meant. Continents were masses of land--did they wish for the food at the inn to be clearly separated by spaces on the plate, as the continents were by the ocean? Perhaps it was a question of whether the food was brought in from the different regions on this strange planet. Either way, it wasn't long before the kitchen staff came to complain about how he just kept sending these people back to ask them instead.

He truly was horrible at this whole 'employment' thing, it seemed.

Character
Name: Hatake Kakashi
Series: Naruto
Timeline: Right after the Invasion of Pain
Canon Resource Links: http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Kakashi_Hatake , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakashi_Hatake

Personality: Kakashi is a calm, collected and aloof guy, to summarize him in a sentence. He is generally very care-free, and he's almost always late to appointments, offering obvious excuses. The real reason for this is him losing track of time visiting the memorial stone of his (believed to be dead) friend, Obito.

Obito's "death" had a great impact on him, and he ended up adopting a number of his friend's traits, including the high-value of teamwork, and the safety of his teammates. As opposed to his younger days, he now puts a premium on his teammates and students beyond the completion of his mission. At one point, he turned down a mission to stop Naruto and Sasuke from fighting each other.

He's very matter-of-fact in his speaking, not being one to beat around the bush instead of getting to the heart of a problem. At times he can be apathetic to others feelings if he feels he's saying something that they need to hear. His bluntness on more sensitive topics doesn't exactly make him a good grief councilor, even if he's giving the right advice in the end.

Kakashi has a solitary and aloof nature, and even when friends are around, he often has his nose buried in the latest Icha Icha book rather than join in the fun. Despite this, he's on good terms with seemingly everyone he knows, especially Might Guy, who he is (probably unwittingly) rivals with.

Although he might not seem it, he is very driven, working hard to have the strength to protect his friends, allies, and village. And who knows, there may be a bit of the competitive fire he had when he was young somewhere in there. This drive, on top of his own natural ability and a willingness to do what is necessary, has caused him to become a tremendously skilled and talented shinobi. Despite his growing renown, it hasn't gone to his head, and he's actually very modest. In fact, he was suggested to become the Hokage recently, and although he admitted he wasn't worthy of the position, but he would do it for the good of the village. On top of this, like any good teacher, he is quick to praise people for their successes.

Kakashi's calm demeanor gives him an edge over more heated opponents on the battlefield. His focus and grace under-pressure allow him to focus and make quick decisions, keeping him a step or two ahead of all but the most skilled enemies. Kakashi can get angry, even though it's hard to get him to a point where he's viscerally angry. However, when he is angry, the smartest move would be to run. Even though it probably wouldn't help too much.

A side-note, is his love of Jiraiya's Icha Icha series. He almost always is reading one of the books, or at least has one on his person, even reading it during the first test he gave his team. But, due to the books adult content, he's a little embarrassed about reading it to others, or showing it to others.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Very Intelligent
+Skilled Strategist
+Hard Worker
+Calm under pressure
+Highly Adaptable

+/- High value on teamwork; Team mates take value over himself and his mission
+/- Hard to anger; when he does, he goes in to tranquil-fury-murder-mode

-Often blunt on sensitive topics
-Constantly late

Affiliation: Trainer
Starter: I'd like Kakashi to start with an Eevee, which I think provides an interesting duality. First, it's a dangerous shinobi with an adorable little fluffy pokemon. Secondly, Kakashi can be very lone wolf when he's not with his team, and while he's not exactly depressed, he's not really all that happy either. I think giving him something sweet and cute would not only be an interesting counter-balance, but it might end up making Kakashi a slightly happier person

[The video starts, and a large brown eye fills the screen. A curious squeak, and the eye moves back, revealing it belongs to an Eevee, curiously looking over the Pokegear filming it. Sitting a short distance away, in the shade under a tree, is Kakashi, reading the latest Icha Icha novel for what's probably the dozenth time. The Eevee bats the pokegear with a paw, and the world shakes as the device shifts.]

What are you doing over there?

[Kakashi looks up from his book, and Eevee makes a mewling noise back up at her trainer. Kakashi gets to his feet, and walks over, picking up the pokegear. The world seems to spin and blur as the camera moves, before settling on his face as he checks the device for any damage. As he does, Eevee pops up over his shoulder, looking as well.]

Sorry, Eevee, can't play with this. I can't exactly afford a new one.

[Not that he'd know where to buy one in the first place ... Eevee looks down, and squeaks out her little apology, but she perks right back up as her trainer scratches her ears. Kakashi opens up a pocket, and drops the pokegear in, and everything goes black.

Third Person Sample:

Da-da-da-da Da Da-da-da

A little melody floats through the air as Kakashi sleepily blinks awake, wondering where the music is coming from. He yawns and stretches as he sits up, but he stops when he wakes up enough to realize something. This isn't his apartment. He sees his vest hanging on a hook on the wall, and he carefully and silently moves over, avoiding any creaks in the floor, and reaches in to one of his weapon pouches. Empty. Crap.
Needless to say, he has a lot of questions, but he has a feeling he’s going to get some form of answer. The fact that he’s here alive means that more than likely, whoever brought him here wants him that way. He gets to his feet, as he’s not tied down or anything, and walks over to the nearby window. He pushes the curtain off to the side, and warm sunlight streams in to the room. Outside is a fairly idyllic looking little town. A few people and some strange looking pets are out and about, enjoying the bright sunny day. “Hh.” Nothing seems to be wrong … but appearances aren’t always on the level.
He opens the door to his room, and there’s just a flight of stairs to a lower level. A one person house, probably, especially considering the only things downstairs seems to be a living room and a kitchen. So whoever brought him here just left him alone in the house? Strange … no sign of who lives here, or even that anyone lives here at all? This situation just gets weirder and weirder. Maybe it’s a genjutsu? He lifts the headband off of his sharingan eye, but … something feels different. Wrong. The he doesn’t feel the sharingan drawing on his strength, or see anything beyond the ordinary every-day room before him. His sharingan isn’t working, and for the first time since he woke up, he’s genuinely worried. Just where the hell is he? And where is that music coming from?

Character
Name: Euphemia li Britannia or “Euphy”
Series: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Timeline: Euphy will be pulled from after her announcement regarding the creation of the Special Administration Zone of Japan.
Canon Resource Links: Euphemia’s Wiki

Personality: A first glance, Euphemia is definitely naïve and innocent. She’s often believing in the best of the world, but also very surprised when certain events happen. That isn’t to say she’s stupid or blind; Euphemia is able to gauge a situation and determine the best course of action. When she spends the day with Suzaku and ends up in Shinjuku to view the wreckage, she understands that eventually, she will need to rebuild and try to help the Japanese, a notion that is often forgotten or disregarded by her siblings. However, her views on life are very innocent; she believes in the best in people and wants to help everyone, Britannian and Japanese included. Given the world and people that she is often involved with and related to, her ideals are often views as simplistic and too naïve for the world. It’s often that no one takes her seriously. Her own sister often questions a lot of her decisions, though it’s primarily out of concern for her sister, as she often does what is best for the people, and not herself.

All of this is a testament to her kindness, though. Euphemia will do anything for anyone, no questions asked. It can often lead her into trouble, or like in her canon, lead her to disapproval of the nobles and royalty of Britannia. Once, she was deciding on which painting should win a contest and ended up choosing a painting by an Eleven (A Japanese) over someone who was Britannian. She didn’t do it out of pity, but because she thought the painting was beautiful. Not only that, but when she was trapped in the hotel with the other hostages, Euphemia stood up for the people despite there being serious danger to her person because of who she was. The only reason why she established the Special Administration Zone was because she wanted to provide a safe place for the Elevens and, eventually, lead society to a happier state.

By any means does this mean that Euphemia would be walked over. She knows exactly how people can be and recognizes that she can’t change everyone. When it comes to Lelouch, she often tries to see if she can convince him otherwise, and eventually she does! There are a lot of moments too where Suzaku is feeling down or upset and Euphemia often doesn’t allow him to hurt himself emotionally. While he does quit being her knight, Euphemia contacts him during a battle and states she loves him and commands him to love her back. She is willing to do what she needs to eventually get results (even if her intentions are somewhat selfish in the case of Suzaku).

That’s not to say that she doesn’t have faults. She tends to not think before she gets into situations, which often leads her into more trouble then originally intended. This brash behavior has often saved her and done some good for others, but it also leads to reprimand and danger, in the case of the hotel hijacking. She tends to just go with what her gut tells her, which can be good and bad.

Additionally, Euphemia tends to not know much about the world. When she escaped from a window and landed in Suzaku’s arms, she spent the day with him. Not only is jumping out of a window dangerous, but she seems to be very surprised and enamored with a lot of the things around her. This is probably due to her upbringing as a princess (and the fact that she wasn’t really around anyone but her siblings), but it could be a problem for her in a different setting or area. However, she is pretty quick to read the situation if she needs to, and thankfully, does well thinking on her feet.

Lastly, this girl is stubborn. When she gets an idea in her head, there is no one that can stand in her way, even her sister. When she figured out she had feelings for Suzaku, Euphemia contacts him in the middle of a battle to talk to him because she needed to tell him right that moment (and stubbornly she wouldn’t let him leave her side). Not only that, but she is set on helping Lelouch, despite the fact that he’s tried to kill her more then once. Even when he unintentionally uses his Geass on her, she fights the order with her will, trying her best to stay true to her own beliefs and ideals.

Essentially, while Euphemia is kind, she is also naïve and very stubborn. But she is able to get things done in a timely manner and make sure that everyone involved is happy.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Euphemia’s kindness is her greatest strength. She is willing to give up so much and never expects anything in return. This is a great asset because it lends her many, many allies and few enemies. Additionally, her ability to rule and make fair decisions is also a valuable strength, given that she is able to observe the situation from both views. Her instincts are usually spot on as well, so that will be a great asset to her as well.

However, because of her sometimes-brash decision-making and stubborn demeanor, she can get herself into trouble very easily. Not only that, but her desire to help coupled with those is a mixture for trouble if she’s not at least accompanied by someone who can attempt to talk her out of it. Euphemia can end up in a lot of trouble if she isn’t careful, and when it comes to others, she tends to forget to be careful.

First Person Sample: [ Euphemia shows up on the network, looking confused, but happy. She doesn’t seem to be too bothered with ending up in a different place, but she thinks for a moment before speaking. ]

As much fun as being here with this cute animal, I need to get back home. I’m not sure if I’m just lost or what. I have something important to attend to at home.

[ The Audino pushes it’s way in and looks at the camera, then nuzzles it’s cheek against Euphemia’s. Giggling, she holds it close. ]

At least the animals are friendly! [ She turns her gaze to the Audino ] You’re very sweet, you know? I think I’ll name you Nunnally!

[ She pulls the device back a little bit and smiles more ]

If I can’t get home, could anyone tell me what to do next? I’m sure I’m not supposed to just stay in once place. Exploring could be a lot of fun! [ Especially when you don’t have a sister worrying too much about you doing so! ]

Third Person Sample: Euphemia wasn’t entirely used to being allowed to go wherever she wanted to go. It was always kind of an unplanned thing when it did happen, and not often. Thankfully, Suzaku was always good company to have, so even if she did have to stay protected, she had someone that she cared about to help make it less boring. But now, in this land, she could come and go as she pleased without anyone really saying anything. Granted, she wasn’t alone, but Euphemia felt that she would become sad if she were alone for too long. The Audino walked with her as she headed to the destination that a few people mentioned on the network, checking the posts to make sure she was going the right way.

Walking past some grass, she heard a faint noise. Frowning, Euphemia went to investigate the source, only to find a Pokémon looking a little weak. Not really caring for the warnings that people gave her about the taller grass, she knelt down and picked it up to remove it from the area. “You poor thing,” She said gently, “We’ll have to get you to the next town or something.” The little pink animal just made a small noise. Audino pulled Euphemia’s skirt to get her attention.

Kneeling to her Audino, the other Pokémon used its feelers to see what it could find out. Euphemia waited as the Audino used its ability on the other suddenly, surprising her. These Pokémon were very helpful friends! The Pokemon perked up and she smiled greatly. “Thank you so much!!” She said to the Audino. Getting out her pokedex, she quickly looked up which one the one in her hands was.

Hoppip, the Cottonweed Pokémon. This hopping Pokémon is light as a feather, and can be lifted by the gentlest breeze.

“Would you like to join us? You looked a little lonely by yourself!” Euphemia asked of the Hoppip, who agreed easily and started to follow Audino. The Princess laughed and stood up, moving to follow her Pokémon to the next destination.

Character
Name: Ralph
Series: Wreck-It Ralph (but technically Fix-It Felix Jr.)
Timeline: The space ship crash shortly after leaving Hero's Duty. Rather than ending up in Sugar Rush, Ralph has found himself in a very different game.

Canon Resource Links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wreck-It_Ralph

http://wreckitralph.wikia.com/wiki/Wreck-It_Ralph_(character)

Personality:

Ralph is not a bad guy for a Bad Guy. He just does his job like every other game character in the arcade. It's what he's programmed to do. If somebody would give him the time of day, he's got the potential to be a very good friend. He is loyal and protective and wants to see others achieve their goals as badly as he wants to achieve his own. Ralph is a guy who will give food to a homeless person if he meets him on the street and has something to share. He's not going to step on and squash somebody smaller and weaker than him, even if they're super annoying. He'll get them out of his face another way. He's fairly honest (most of the time) but can also be a bit blunt. If he doesn't like you, he'll let you know. You won't be doing very much guess-work around Ralph.

He's a little sheltered though. Living in a stump in the forest and then living in a dump after said forest and stump got moved to make way for progress is all he knows. The video game that he lives in is thirty years old (think oldschool Donkey Kong) and is quite dated, so his mannerisms reflect that. He doesn't swear, hasn't encountered anything much more violent than smashing windows or being thrown off a building without the fatal splat that follows. He's not a fan of blood and gore by any stretch of the imagination. Ralph can't really handle a gun or drive either.

He admits that his "passion bubble is very near the surface" and he means it. His rage flares up quickly and extinguishes just as quickly, but leaves destruction in its wake. Ralph throws massive tantrums with yelling and throwing and punching and breaking things and rarely apologizes for it. This originally stemmed from his aggression toward the building complex that booted him out of his home and it was easy enough to get his 'revenge' on a building, but it has since spread to everything he encounters from line-cutters to change-stealing snack food machines. You pushed him! Your fault! Not his! He's not a fan of being told what to do either. Ralph does what he wants. He's been told what to do and who he is for thirty years and now he's sick of it.

Being expected to play the villain doesn't make him nearly as angry as people telling him that he will never be anything but a villain that ruins everything he touches and that there is literally nothing he can do about it. He's listened to this for thirty years and at this point he's fed-up. But instead of snapping and going on some sort of irreparable wrecking spree, he's decided to focus that passion in a different direction. He's going to prove them wrong. All wrong. It's very hard for him, but he's trying to convert that bullet train of fury into hope and willpower. It's pretty hard to change Ralph's mind once he's decided something and he will not drop it until he either achieves his goal or is completely incapacitated.

New hope aside, Ralph is still rather pessimistic. He's the villain. The Bad Guy. Nobody wants to talk to the Bad Guy. His role in his game is to destroy. He's used to people moving out of his way, muttering about him behind his back, screaming at the sight of him, and generally treating him like a monster. This has conditioned him to take even the most innocent things the wrong way and become insulted which only hurts his reputation all the more when he 'defends himself' in retaliation.

Strengths

Size and Strength- Ralph is 9 feet and 643 pounds of wrecking machine. This is the guy you want if you're going to be moving house any time soon. He can move your sofa all by himself.

Nice Guy- So long as you aren't treating him like a monster, Ralph is easy to get along with. He's happy to shoot the breeze about just about anything with anybody about just about anything. He won't kick a man when he's down.

Loyal- Ralph is loyal and sticks up for his buddies. Mess with one of Ralph's buddies and you're gonna wanna skip town. Recently, he is almost loyal to a fault in his new quest to become a hero. Heroes are super loyal, right?

Weaknesses:

Size and Strength- Ralph isn't always aware that he's 9 feet and 643 pounds of wrecking machine. He bumps his head on door frames, knocks objects off tables and shelves, and occasionally trips over things (and people) on the ground.

Communication Skills- He's not the best at telling other people how he feels. Showing, sure, but when it comes to words, it all falls apart because he gets himself so worked up that it often makes things worse.

Temper- Ralph has a horrible temper. He's not good at explaining why he is upset and he isn't good at expressing himself in ways that don't involve smashing things.

Sheltered- He's an oldschool game and his lack of knowledge about how the outside world works makes it easy for him to become overwhelmed, as well as for others to take advantage of him.

[The feed clicks on to reveal a very close, very scrunched-up face. Ralph squints into the tiny 'gear screen for a moment, then leans away to tap at something with the stylus pinched in his big ham hands. What looks like a mess hall murmurs behind him with lunchtime activity.]

Ye-ap I think that did it--Oop!

[He adjusts the gear so that it's not showing the big obvious R on his uniform.]

Heh, just a little something my, ah, aunt made me. Aher-hem, anyway, listen, has anybody out there found a medal? It's bout this big, [He makes a circle with his fingers.] gold, really shiny, says HERO in big bold letters? Yeah, that's mine. I earned it in the last game and I really really need it back.

So, ah, Roger. Ralph. Over and out! However you end these sorta things.

Third Person Sample:

"Excuse me." Ralph tapped on the glass of the receptionist desk in the main office and waited. He rocked back and forth on his heels and watched the other Rockets pass by. A Granbull that had been following its partner caught Ralph making eye-contact with it and sent him a low growl. Ralph growled back before turning his attention to the receptionist. The woman at the desk hadn't even looked up. She just scribbled away at whatever it was she was working on. The Vulpix that was perched on the desk next to her just blinked slowly at Ralph through the glass.

Ralph huffed and continued tapping on the glass harder and harder for every second he went ignored. "S'cuse me. Ma'am. Hello? Hey. Lady. Hey. Hey. Excuse me. Ex. Cuse. Me!"

The little glass door shook in its frame so violently that it threatened to shatter. Finally the woman reached up into her hair and removed the ear-buds she had been listening to, slid the door open, and popped her gum. Ralph quickly stuck his hands behind his back and gave her the most encouraging smile he could even though she still hadn't looked up.

"Whad'ya want?"

The game-jumper tugged the undersized backpack off his shoulder and pulled out his poke'gear. The screen was cracked, wires poked out of one side of its casing and over all it looked rather...flat. He placed it on the counter and scooted it forward.

"Yeah, I think this communication do-hickey you guys gave me is defective. Can I get another one?"

"Did you try turning it off and then on again?"

"It won't come on. At all. And, ah, I think the screen there is warped. A bit."

"Y'don't say."

"Actually yeah. Yeah, I do say. And I need another one."

The receptionist finally glanced up from the clipboard, took one look at the smashed poke'gear, and popped her gum again. "Team Rocket isn't responsible for damages done to equipment. We can order you a new one, but it's gonna come outta your next pay check unless you wanna go buy one yourself."

Ralph kicked at the ground but guessed that was better than no. "Yeah, alright. How much is it gonna cost?"

"Your next paycheck."

"What!" Ralph slammed his hands down on the desk so hard the crusted gum on the underside fell off and leaned forward. "I haven't even been paid yet! That's-- that's robbery!"

The receptionist blinked at him. "Honey, are you aware of what we do here?" Ralph opened his mouth, then shut it. "That's what I thought. Name?"

"Ralph."

"Last name?"

"Just Ralph."

"Ahuh." The receptionist turned and started tapping away at the computer. "There's your ugly mug. Check back in about a week."

"A week?"

"What are you, a Chatot? I got work to do."

He set his jaw, scooped up his ruined poke'gear, and stomped over to a bench in the corner of the lobby. Ralph dropped his bag on the floor, shoved the complimentary magazines off the little table in front of the bench, and propped his elbows on it. He was not about to spend a week training in this Bad Guy club with no contact with the outside world. Carefully as he could, he pulled the 'gear's casing apart and looked at all the tiny fiddly wires and chips and whatnot.

Oh.

Ralph glanced around the lobby for anyone walking nearby. "Anybody got a pen or a...nail file or somethin'?"

Character
Name: Yayoi Kise
Series: Smile! Precure (aka Smile! Pretty Cure)
Timeline: Episode 46 (This is the on-going Precure series, so it’s subject to canon updates)
Canon Resource Links: Canon Wiki and Character Wiki

Personality: When we are first introduced to Yayoi, she’s a shy girl and another character described her as a “crybaby who cries at the slightest nudge”. Over the course of the series however, both she and her fellow Pretty Cures realize how big her heart is even though she still has her crybaby tendencies. Before becoming part of the Pretty Cure, Yayoi was the typical quiet girl that can be found in any middle school. Because of that nature, she didn’t have much close friends before the series started.

She’s a very modest girl and kept her passion for drawing secret from her classmates. It wasn’t until both Miyuki and Akane nudge her to do the school wide poster art contest she gained the confidence to be open about it. She received the honorable mention, but her nature got the best of her and she broke down. During that time Akaoni, one of the Bad End Kingdom’s commanders, pushed the current Pretty Cures into a corner. She realized their true identities and rushed over to them to protect them. Naturally he laughs and asks what can a crybaby like her do. Yayoi stood her ground however and gained her ability to become Cure Peace, the third member of the Smile Pretty Cure.

Another thing she gets fired up about is superheroes/tokusatsu series. Like with her drawing, she hid it from her classmates out of fear of being teased. She’s the first to be on board with Miyuki when they finally discovered the main five Pretty Cures and trying to build their identity, such as creating their catchphrase. It’s a bit of a running gag in the series that she’s a bit wrong genre savvy because even though they’re clearly magical girls, Yayoi calls the Cures “superheroes”.

Yayoi is very sensitive about her bonds between her family and friends. When it was April Fool’s Day, she lied about being transferred to a different school, which began to snowball from Miyuki and then spreading to the rest of the class. Even though she had chances to explain herself, she was afraid of how everyone would lash out at her, especially the other Pretty Cures. During the school’s athletic meet, she overheard some of her classmates say they could win the girls’ relay race if she wasn’t it. Even though she tried to back out and they didn’t win, thanks to her friends, she did her best.

Another incident was based from a school assignment: What does your name mean and why did your parents give it you? When she asked her mother, she said her father named her and Yayoi asked him before he passed away. She began to get frustrated with the struggle to remember to the point she cries and apologizes to her father for not being able to remember. When she finally does remember, she’s very happy and further confirms her love for her father. The reason why her father named her Yayoi (“March” in the lunar calender) is after her mother (Chiharu “a thousand springs). He wished for his daugther to be just as kind and gentle as her.

In the final Yayoi-focused episode, she participated in a manga contest. She admitted to herself and to her friends that producing a manga was very difficult but she wanted to complete her entry by herself. Her manga was about her own super heroine called Miracle Peace. Ever since she started drawing, she always loved and admired strong super heroines. As the deadline drew closer, she began to despair and even dreamed the antagonist of her story called her out on being a crybaby who does things half-way through. Her rival, Aka Oni, curbstomps and taunts her like in her dream. Yayoi stood her ground and declared so long as she has her feelings to complete her work and live up to someone like Miracle Peace, she won’t give up.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Drawing: Yayoi has strong artistic skills, even though she has a tendency to hide it. Because of her modesty, she’s not going to be flaunting it. Chances are people will discover it by accident.
+ Kindness: She’s a big hearted girl who cares about others. While there are times she’s clearly scared, it doesn’t stop her from being there for people when they need her the most.
+ Optimism: Yayoi does try to put a cheerful spin on things. When she and Miyuki got lost in Osaka, she made the best of situation. She had Miyuki imagine it was like an RPG where they talked to locals for information and get rewards, mostly from the local trio of women they kept bumping into. Despite getting lost, they had fun.
- Lack of physical prowess: Yes, she maybe a magical warrior but that’s only when she’s her alter ego, Cure Peace. Unlike the other girls, she’s the only one not in an athletics club.
Try to cover the good points of what they can do, their life skills (not necessarily powers, but things they're just good at). Go into their biggest fears and what they just can’t do.
- Crybaby and Shyness: She was first introduced as a bit of a crybaby, and while she’s gotten stronger, she does still cry from time to time. She also has few close friends but even then she can hide a thing or two from them.
+/- Modesty: Yayoi doesn’t like to be in the spotlight mostly because she’s afraid of possible bullying. That being said, there are still times when she can’t stand up for herself immediately.
Fears: Losing her friends, not being able to help people, being bullied

[The feed starts off with a little static at first but eventually clears up. Yayoi waves shyly.]

Um, hi, this is Yayoi Kise. I have a question. Has anyone ever taken care of a Mareep before? I read somewhere Mareep’s wool can be collected and sold. Except..I don’t know how to do it! Candy’s building up a lot of electricity with it and it’s getting hard to handle--AAH!

[The video gets shaky for a second as she dodges some of the discharging electricity.]

I-I’m okay! I could use some help, please! No, Candy, please stay still!

[She shuts off the feed in a hurry to check on her pokemon.]

Third Person Sample:
Yayoi took a break from walking and sat down on the grass. She wiped the sweat from her brow. She lost track of how long she was on this route. After confirming with the map, at the rate she was going she could make it to the Pokemon Center before it got dark. A much deserved break was needed though. Seeing the coast was clear of any wild pokemon ready to strike, she took out a pokeball. “Okay, Candy, it’s time to come out. Let’s take a break.”

The Mareep appeared, shaking it’s fluffy body out. The two shared a smile and a sip of water. She honestly couldn’t believe she was actually a pokemon trainer even though it was a few days after she arrived. Her inner otaku was a having a field day. While she wasn’t a hardcore gamer, she was familiar with how things worked here.

Yayoi brought out her sketch book and a pencil. “Can I draw you one more time, Candy? You’re just so adorable!” Candy gave a nod and jumped onto a nearby tree stump, trying out various poses while she waited for the artist to get ready.

She began to flip to a blank page when suddenly she stopped. The page revealed a sketch of her and her friends as the Cures. Each one of them were in poses that matched each girl’s personality. It felt so odd not being able to transform into Cure Peace now. She wondered how they were doing. While they managed to save the three generals from a cruel fate and defeated their Bad End copies, Pierrot the evil emperor of the Bad End kingdom was revived.

“Miyuki, Akane, Nao, Reika...I hope you guys are okay.” She felt something warm roll down her cheek. She wiped away the sudden tears. “No, I have to stay strong. I know I’ll see them soon.”

“Mareep?” Candy trotted over to Yayoi, a concerned look on her face. The girl looked down at the sheep pokemon and smiled.

“Oh, sorry I didn’t mean to worry you. I miss my friends back home but I’m not alone here. I have you after all. Thank you for being with me.” She reached down to give Candy a pat on the head but shrieked when she got hit by her innate Static ability. Electrified, she rolled onto her back, twitching. “I-I’m alright, I promise! I’ve been hit by worst things before...”

Character
Name: Ikuto Tsukiyomi
Series: Shugo Chara!
Timeline: End of Chapter 30
Canon Resource Links: Shugo Chara! | Ikuto

Personality:

The best way to describe Ikuto would be calling him a 'stray cat'. Given the choice, he wanders around and does as he pleases without caring about limits or what's expected of him. It's natural for him to find the routes that nobody takes and follow his own little rules. While he is bound to a set of rules because of his family, he bends them as much as it's possible just to annoy the people holding him in a leash. He knows he can't go against the company's word too much because of his family and friends, but it wouldn't be any fun if he'd just be a silent and obedient pawn.

Ikuto is sometimes a cold person on the outside, but that's only to protect the ones he cares about. He's declared himself as a the 'black cat' who brings brings misfortune to others: therefore it would be better if no one was close to him. This is why he keeps a distance to everyone or acts like a jerk towards them. He's seen as the bad guy even if he wouldn't really be one. Strictly speaking he has no other choice because of his family issues ('Everyone born under the name Tsukiyomi will serve as the pawns for Easter'). He holds a deep dislike towards his adoptive father and while he obeys his orders he doesn't act friendly towards him in any situation.

No matter what the situation, his will to protect those important to him is strong. He would go as far as to disobey orders if it meant to protect the people important to him. He would even endure the pain of being a criminal if it meant that others wouldn't need to become that way. He's always disliked the fact that Utau became a bad person 'for Ikuto' because he thinks she shouldn't be involved and should sing and perform only because she wants to. After Utau was freed from Easters' control, he purposely put some distance between them so that she wouldn't be pulled back to the world once again. He also hurt Hinamori Amu deeply with his actions and words just to make her hate him - so that she wouldn't try to come too close and get hurt even worse in the progress. Another one Ikuto wishes to protect by appearing to be a bad guy is Tadase Hotori who's like a little brother to him. The situation between them has escalated to be as bad as them being clear enemies, but Ikuto thinks it's better this way, even if it does make him a bit sad.

While he appears very secretive and serious, that definitely isn't all of him. He's actually quite mischievous and a teaser. Whenever Amu is around him, he 'can't help it' and teases the girl mercilessly with words and actions. He's taken a huge liking to this girl and has admitted that he likes her in more ways than one (even if Amu thought of it as a joke). It's not only Ikuto's mischievousness and teasing side that appears whenever Amu is around: she also brings forth compassion and a certain amount of playfulness. He's good at helping her to get back to her feet and making her feel better and he does so without asking anything in return. He also provokes others just to see their reaction: Tadase is usually his target for insults and mockery whenever he gets a chance.

You could also say Ikuto is slightly antisocial. While he shows sides that make him sociable and rather fun to hang out with, he rarely meets people. Most days he'd rather take a nap on a tree or on a hill rather than go out with friends. He doesn't talk to total strangers much, or if he does it's just a few words here and there. Sometimes when he's annoyed he tends to end up in trouble. He's picked up a fight with some guys on the street when they were harassing girls just because he wasn't feeling too well at the moment.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Agile: Even without his Shugo Chara abilities, Ikuto is rather fast and he's able to move in more difficult places.
+ Charming: He's able to use his looks as an advantage with the help of alluring words.
+ Observant: He's able to notice things quickly, sometimes even when people try to hide them.

+/- Emotional endurance: Ikuto is pretty good at doing things he dislikes at the price of hurting himself - but he's good at holding his emotions back and appearing to be fine.
+/- Loner: Counts as a strength and weakness because while he's strong enough to live alone and separated from others, he's also a bit too used to being by himself so he takes his loneliness for granted.
+/- Utau/Family: While protecting Utau from harm makes him stronger, it also serves as a weakness as he's easily manipulated into things "for the sake of his family".
+/- Amu: The girl has a positive effect on him in and brings out his better sides, but the he's also more easily distracted and manipulated when it comes to the topic of protecting her.

- Locking emotions: Ikuto rarely shows his true feelings right of the bat. He keeps his emotions to himself and appears to be feeling something he's definitely not. Because of that the bad feelings build up inside him.
- Trouble magnet: The worse he feels the more likely he's going to get into trouble - may it be a street fight or a an argument with someone.
- No longer a cat: It may take a while for him to realize that he's no longer able to move like a cat as he pleases.

First Person Sample:

[This evening you're greeted with the background music from Route 35. There's no video - just the voice.]

Somehow, this place seems as troublesome as home. [The voice belongs to a man in his teens. It's a bit mysterious and gloomy - the speaker doesn't seem to happy about the situation.]

I'll play your game for now.

[The audio ends with the loud sound of a Murkrow. That's all that he's going to say today. What a cryptic message.]

Third Person Sample:

A little kid was crying in the middle of the National Park. Adults were gathering around him, asking what was wrong. It was hard to make up what he was saying because of how much he was crying but one of the adults was able to catch the words 'Pokémon' and 'Missing'. Immediately another group of adults started to search for any Pokeballs in the nearby grass and informing others that they should look as well. It wasn't long until the news had spread through the whole Park.

Ikuto watched the scene from a tree, holding a Pokéball in his hands. The look in his eyes was gloomy, because he knew exactly where the Pokémon that had went missing was: Right there, in his hands. A part of him was willing to just jump down and pretend he found the ball from the ground, making the child's day happier, but he knew he should not. This was his job now and he couldn't let his emotions take control.

It was the same situation that he had 'back home' with some changes. Ikuto clenched his free hand into a fist as he moved from the tree to quietly exit the area without being seen.

It seemed that wherever he was, he was destroying dreams. At least here, the kid had a chance to recover, even if it would leave a scar. Pokémon could be replaced easily, even if you lost a valuable partner - maybe even one you had grown up with. Ikuto didn't have that kind of attachment to these creatures, but he could probably somehow compare it to the dog that the Hotori family had. He had spent a lot of time with Betty after all, and he watched as she slept away as well. It had hurt, even if she departed with a smile on her face. While the Pokémon the kid had hadn't died... missing, in this world, probably held the same meaning.

Ikuto's Murkrow returned from its investigations and landed on the boys' shoulder as Ikuto exited the loud park. His work here was over. It was time to return to the Base. Back to the place that made him a criminal even in this world.

Character
Name: Ludwig Beilschmidt (Germany)
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Timeline: Modern day.
Canon Resource Links:

[Sorry for the history rambling, but what I found on Ludwig himself- his blurb on the Hetalia wiki- was short and not very satisfying. Also, you can take a look at the country's history to get an idea of what Ludwig went through. Note: for the sake of completeness, there are some headcanon details added in.]

Ludwig's history is naturally linked with that of the country he represents. His first memories involve his brother Gilbert (Prussia) finding him and raising him throughout the 18th and 19th century. He grew from the German Confederation to the German Empire, aging from about six years old to eighteen in that time period. As a child, he was sickly, and his condition was not helped by the revolutions and wars going on in those days. However, thanks to Gilbert's care and guidance, he grew up to become a strong young man. He reached his current physical age during World War I.

Now we reach the first prominent canon point. During World War II, he was involved in the Axis Powers along with Feliciano (Italy) and Kiku (Japan). He met Feliciano when he discovered him hiding inside a tomato crate. Feliciano would go on to become a fairly close friend of Ludwig's, and one of the few people he could truly open up to. He stuck with Feliciano through thick and thin, even when he did stupid things like holding the wrong end of the grenade back.

Following WWII, he was separated from Gilbert when Germany was divided into East and West Germany. He was left to represent the left half by his lonesome. This period in his life was the first time he was ever truly alone in his duties; before that point, he had his brother to support him. During this period of time, he experienced benefits from the economic boons the country went through and generally fared quite well. However, he was constantly worried about his brother's condition till the two halves of the country reunited in 1990. The reunion was one that Ludwig anticipated with great joy, and once again he had his brother to support him again. Now came a role reversal: he was the one in the dominant role, while Gilbert was the one in the background.

His life from the reunification to the modern day has been relatively peaceful. He spends most of his time working for his bosses, but occasionally he'll attend an event that the other nations are hosting, such as Halloween and Christmas parties.

Personality:

Ludwig is a stern, orderly individual. He is often quite serious when dealing with others, and he might order them around a bit under the impression that he can rein them in if they're being chaotic. In meetings, he's often the one who has to put a halt towards all the talk on the side and arguing and get the meeting on track. He seems to take being the force of order to heart, always being the one who controls and restores order. He follows decorum to the letter and is generally a very "by-the-book" person- sometimes even literally. It even extends to his personal life- his surroundings are always clean and orderly, and he is something of a renowned neat freak (if you cook in his house, he'll be scrubbing the counter right next to you).

He is, as one might expect, an immaculate soldier who takes his orders well and gives them with the same prowess. He is quick to assume a leader role when a crisis breaks out, barking orders at people to handle certain aspects of a situation or battle. Even if it's not appropriate for him to lead, he might just try anyway, if only because he's so used to being a leader and in control. However, if he is shunted out of the leader role for any reason, he will be a loyal soldier and follow orders exactly as they are said.

Another outstanding trait of Ludwig's is his loyalty. If he trusts someone, he will fight with them to the end. In fact, it's somewhat difficult for him to change his rigidly-defined loyalties when the situation changes. Nonetheless, if you are deserving of his loyalty, he'll treat you with the utmost respect (...unless you're a bit on the chaotic side, in which case, expect to be reined in but never betrayed).

That stern side is what most people get to see. However, he also has a very well-hidden soft side. Baking is a hobby of his, and he might drop off something sweet if he decides he really likes a person. He will be slightly less tense around people that he's close to, but it still takes a bit of prying to get him to truly open up and relax (or some beer- but that's another matter entirely). Once he opens up, he... isn't too much different from his normal self, but his order-freak-ness lets up and he becomes a bit less controlling. He might even smile for you.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

+ Ludwig has a great tactical ability. In battles, he can formulate strategies and carry them out with great skill. Granted, he still needs to learn the tactics of Pokemon battles, but that's another matter.

+ Ludwig holds himself to very strict standards; as a result, he always puts forth his best effort and generally does very well at what he applies himself to.

+ Ludwig is efficient. His focus on keeping everything in order enables him to do things well, and quickly to boot.

+ Ludwig is practical. He sees situations as they are and doesn't entertain pie-in-the-sky fantasies about them.

Weaknesses:

- Ludwig can be a bit of an emotional dunderhead. He doesn't always pick up on the subtleties of people's emotions and can sometimes act insensitively.

- Ludwig's insistence on following orders to the letter can hold him back a bit. While he does have the tactical skills to improvise when something goes awry, he hates having to deviate from plans, even if that strategic retreat really is needed.

- Ludwig doesn't handle unexpected surprises well. Since he like everything so orderly, changes to his schedule or events that come out of nowhere can seriously throw him into a tizzy.

- The standards to which Ludwig holds himself are double-edged swords; while he tries his best to function at 110%, he can occasionally over-stress himself or take things a little too far. Someone needs to be around to talk some sense into him when he gets too strict with himself, because he'll never admit it.

First Person Sample:

Greetings, everyone. I have a request for all of you today. Given that I have just started my journey with Pokemon, I would like some advice. Please tell me what tactics you use during Pokemon battles. Although I would like to hear about the more advanced tactics, keep in mind that I will most likely not be able to use them just yet. At this moment, all I have is my Elekid, Sturm, which brings me to another topic. Which Pokemon do you recommend that I add to my team next? I'm currently in Cherrygrove City, so anything around that area would work best. Pidgey is a Pokemon that I've considered catching to make up for Sturm's weakness to Ground-type attacks. A Grass- or Water-type Pokemon would also suffice for this purpose. Please let me know what you think.

Third Person Sample:

This was a strange situation, to say the least.

The intimidating German folded his arms and surveyed the area around him. He was in a town of some sort, and it seemed to be a friendly location, judging from the people who were going about. His priorities immediately switched to gathering information about this place. That would be the best way to start.

When Ludwig's gaze shifted downward and to his left, however, he was greeted by an interesting sight. A round creature with black stripes, a black lightning bolt on its belly, and what appeared to be a plug on its head stared right back at Ludwig, its arms folded just like his. Was it imitating him?

The creature spoke. "Ele! Kid!"

Ludwig jerked back, startled by the sudden speech from the little beast. The thing in front of him unfolded its arms and gave a cheery hop up and down. "Elekid!"

The startle reaction didn't last long. Ludwig stared at the creature, and it stared back. He wasn't afraid of the Elekid at all; rather, he found the creature kind of charming. Ludwig always had something of a fondness for animals (he had three dogs at home, after all), even if they were creatures he'd never seen before. This one seemed friendly, so maybe it was a pet of some sort. Not paying it much more heed, he went to go ask around for details on where he was, only to have it follow him everywhere.

Having made his way to the center of town with the Elekid still in tow, he finally turned around and stooped down to reach the creature's eye level. "Let's make a deal. You can follow me until I find my way home, and then you have to stay here. How's that?"

"Ele..." The Elekid seemed reluctant, but nodded anyway.

"Don't be so sad. Come on, let's go look around some more." Ludwig stood back up and began to walk in the direction of the town's Pokemon Center. The Elekid followed in its new trainer's footsteps, and whether he knew it or not, Ludwig's Pokemon journey had begun.

Here you go!
