APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Name: Blue
Personal Journal: [personal profile] bluedabadee
E-mail: blackleopard94 at hotmail dot com
AIM/MSN: N/A
Timezone: United States Pacific.
Current Characters in Route: Clementine ([personal profile] willrememberthisCharacter
Name: Admiral Bobbery
Series: Super Mario - specifically Paper Mario.
Timeline: Post-Thousand-Year Door.
Canon Resource Links: Here's his page on the obligatory canon wiki - though that covers his role nicely, I understand it's a bit short and will write something up formally if you'd like.

Personality: Bobbery very much projects the classic image of a salty old dog or aging hero from a high-seas adventure story. More than just projects the image, in fact, he really is it. He's tough, he's worldly, he's brave, he's experienced yet still as gung-ho adventurous as he's ever been, there's a dash of eccentricity in there... Let's slow down a little. Bobbery lives for his life as a sailor, with his relationship with the ocean compared at least twice to his relationship with his late wife - they're "one". That the ocean is practically his second soulmate should convey on its own that he's a natural at what he does with all the toughness, life, and sense of adventure it takes to happily devote his life to it.

He's got not only everything that would be expected from someone who loves the sea but the kind of guy who can survive voyage after voyage exposed to hazards both natural and conscious. Some reference to him running a tight ship is probably appropriate here - for someone used to waiting days to get where he needs to go, he can show limited patience with others. Make no mistake, he's actually generally rather affable, even plain jolly if caught on a kind of roll, but he'd rather not put up with stalling and/or messing around breaking the flow of a misadventure that's just getting good - or simply slowing things down when anything is at stake, not only where he is concerned. He's willing to take responsibility, bullets, and blame for anyone on any crew of his. He also mentions he has a knack for smelling a rat - he's on guard for rats, hoodlums, miscreants, and hooligans. And, maybe as a product for need to keep on the lookout for pirates or just living in a place like Rogueport, he hates the lot of 'em. He's a very honest old bomb and is outspoken about his preference for others to be the same way, vocally looking down on those who withhold vital information from others and expressing unwillingness to deal with anyone shady - for example, he mentions he's reluctant to follow Mario to the Pianta mob base for a favor that would help the team reach another Crystal Star.

He's outspoken in general, actually, and on the stubborn side. That seems to come from the fact that he has a rather passionate bent that, like quite a bit else about him, hasn't even begun to dull out with age. He puts his all into every task he's put to with a burnin' vitality, he holds opinions and displays feelings on extremes, and for his undeniable toughness... he's quite sentimental, even a li'l bit of a romantic still. Just try asking him about his wife. And to go along with that, he can be fairly dramatic. Overdramatic or melodramatic, if the situation spurs it. His speech patterns might help bring that across - for a sailor from a sleazy town, he's proper, and has a not-half-bad vocabulary. That along with the fact that he's not exactly all there at times are places where he definitely shows some age in his personality.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Bobbery is, again, tough, seasoned, and adventurous - he is open to new experiences and braced for anything that they may involve, and has a level of endurance that applies in-gameplay - he has the highest base and max health levels of Mario's team, whether that's to be taken as coming from being weathered strong or from hailing from a species that defend themselves by exploding and surviving, or both. His integrity is as solid as his nerve, and he is responsible, in addition to still not being half bad at being commanding - even the notoriously full-of-hot-air, self-important Flavio will clam up and listen to him, so long as he's actually there.

He's also a bit confrontational, hard-headed, a bit easily irritated even if he isn't bad at handling it rationally (implied to be a not-so-uncommon Bob-Omb trait - they're easily "set off"), and depressive - add the last bit to the likelihood that he's a drinker with the fact that he's close friends with a bartender and, plainly, a classic sailor character and there's a recipe for another weakness. And rather than losing any of his weaknesses on coming to Route, he'll be losing strengths - as far as Bob-Ombs go, Bobbery is powerful, but that's mostly in regards to certain obvious skills that only Bob-Ombs (and, I suppose, self-destructing Pokemon) are known for, and though he'll of course be fully aware that he's lost his old natural abilities, he might still be inclined to act a little more recklessly than he should without them.

Salutations!

Bobbery is my name. Old sailor and navigator -- of some repute, so I'm lead to believe. Of Rogueport, should any of my fellow displaced travelers know it.

I'd much like to speak with anyone with whom I might make an arrangement in exchange for the Pokémon Wailmer.

I unfortunately can produce little proof of my credentials as a Pokemon trainer, at this point. I can offer that I currently have under my command a Sealeo, a Pelipper, and a Slowpoke. I'm afraid that can only claim two badges, but I assure you, they were handily won, and I should say that this "crew" pull their weight. I manage our earnings, and we should be capable of meeting any price you might ask within reason.

That ought to suffice for the moment. If you'd prefer further discussion on any count, I shall be ready to provide my end.

Whether you personally will respond or not, I am grateful for your time.

Third Person Sample: Third day in Johto. First attempt at Pokemon capture successful. Scarlette the Spheal had attained experience level 7.

And just before noon, they'd reached Cherrygrove City; since then they'd headed a short ways south to the beach, where Scarlette was rewarding herself swimming leisurely circuits between the jagged brown rocks, and Bobbery stood on the sand, their new ratty companion-to-be resting in the ball on his belt. His arms were crossed behind his back with a hint of unconscious effort to keep his posture straight - he supposed normally he had less of a back to feel an ache in, and his eye would follow the little seal's trails through the water for a while, then drift out to the horizon, where the sky and light on the water didn't glow or sparkle but shone winter bright, and a ferry boat headed out to the center of the view from the beach.

He remembered the docks back in New Bark Town with the offer of a ferry to the adjacent region, and that honestly, he'd hardly had to mull it over before leaving on foot down Route 29. He'd looked through the informational material he'd been given. Both the Kanto and Johto regions had eight gyms to challenge. He'd started in the Johto region. One step at a time. He had felt as if he'd missed out on something, however, and that was travel and transition, setting off and feeling and seeing a destination for the exploring approach. He hadn't even been on the ship before he'd found himself in the house in New Bark Town - he'd fallen asleep for the night on Keelhaul Key and woken up in a completely different climate, and completely different shape.

But frankly, the sudden, unwarned lifting from one place and dumping in another was all that made him feel remotely like he was in a completely different world and further from home than he'd ever been. He'd been transformed - he'd also been reduced to eight bits and ridden along with a human paper airplane before. He would have noticed if there was anything especially alien about the ocean, he liked to think - but it waved and caught the sun and shifted like it followed the same rules as the one back home. Even if it wasn't, he figured he could probably get just as well-acquainted with it, if he had a boat.

As far as he felt it, this was just another new territory with its own exotic wildlife.

It was, however, the most "new" he'd seen in decades. And so was his job while he was within it - he could think on experience and draw up possible places where elements of it could come into play, but his primary duty here wasn't to navigate or manage an expedition; it was to train a select squad of these unfamiliar beasties as competitors in a country-wide gladiatorial system. He'd fought a few rounds in the Glitz Pit, before, but that had been accompanying Mario.

As an adventure, this wasn't quite on the level of collecting the Crystal Stars, unlocking the Thousand-Year Door, and actually entering and seeing the Shadow Palace.

It was definitely an undeniable adventure, though, and the second one he'd gotten since meeting Mario had gotten him out of his retirement. It was probably something to appreciate that in returning to traveling at his age, the figurative tides of fate were managing to keep everything novel.
