Character
Name: Kagura
Series: Inuyasha
Timeline: Middle of the battle at Mt. Hakurei.
Canon Resource Links: Up to episode 118.
Personality: > Kagura, in battle, can be seen as heartless and cruel, often going the extra mile to beat someone up instead of just giving them a swift death. She takes particular delight in taunting her enemies, often playful and condescending, as she often comments that this fight will be their “last dance”. She depends heavily on the information she knows about her enemy to fight well, but will never let them know that. She can, however, get caught up in something such as 'winning' a battle while it's being fought, often causing her to slip out important details that cause her to lose the fight. She also doesn't take into account that there may be flaws in a plot or plan she concocts to defeat her enemy, often her downfall in many situations. She also seems to believe that all the information she gathers about her enemy must be all they can do, and no more, such as not even thinking that Inuyasha might be stronger than Naraku had mentioned. She does not count on their personality, or their perseverance, to help them win a battle. She seems to only believe that skill or strength is the only thing allowing one to win a fight.
Outside of battle, it can be said that she keeps her taunting ways. She is coy with her words, choosing them carefully in order to invoke the response she wants and sometimes needs. She is not one to divulge in a situation without having some sort of upper hand--while confrontational, she has no need to be caught unprepared for a situation, and hates being caught off guard. Unfortunately, she still has emotions, and they get in the way sometimes, especially with someone like Naraku. With pretty much anyone, she can have a hair-trigger temper, causing her to slip into an emotional thought process of anger and rage instead of thinking things through, which often gets her into deep trouble or gets her to give out information she had no intention of giving out. Often times, this trigger is caused by her need for freedom, or making a connection to her being Naraku's servant, as she has a deep loathing for him.
She is the thoughtful type, though, if given enough time to think. One of her pastimes is planning out ways to get out of the situation she is currently in. She likes to analyze others, but she does not analyze them much past what would be useful or pertinent to her, like how she analyzes Inuyasha’s strength in a fight, but not how he talks to Kagome, or fights with Koga. She is rather adept at reading a situation quickly, as it is how she survives, since she lives with her greatest enemy, Naraku, who with one word could kill her. Her thoughtfulness and ability to know what to do and when to do it has helped her survive over the years.
Strengths/Weaknesses:I did a lot of this in her personality section (whoops), but she’s a good sleuth—she’s able to understand one thing leads to another without it being stated or shown. She’s at least half-decent at understanding people—insofar as it applies to her, nothing that doesn’t. She also knows when to do something and when to stay silent, being good at reading situations and all that. Her weaknesses are that she has a hard time playing nice—she can, but with very few amounts of people. She, from her canon point, has a certain lack of empathy, too, unless they are in her shoes. And, finally: she underestimates people often.

Samples
First Person Sample: [Kagura’s voice is slightly nasal, almost croaky, and it certainly sounds awfully annoyed at the moment. She’s got no clue where she is, Naraku’s bees are no where to be found, and everything is foreign. The wind demon would’ve thought it was a dream if she hadn’t got pecked in the head by the Hoothoot that was following her around. It wasn’t helpful that she’d lost her ability to fly, either. Something is very wrong here, and someone on the communicator better tell her right now, or else lose their head. As soon as she got her powers back.]
What the hell is going on? God damnit, Naraku, what kind of game are you playing? And someone get this bird off of me!
Third Person Sample: The night growing old as a breeze blew through the forest, Kagura sitting in a branch of a tree near town. While the man that escorted her here was in town and staying there for the night. She wasn’t comfortable with all this new technology; she’d only been here a day, and it was a long and boring one at that. Her Hoothoot was up on a taller branch, making noise at the moon high in the sky. She closed her eyes, laying her head against the tree.
She didn’t want to trust anything that was suggesting this happening, of course. The fact that this wasn’t some kind of illusion wasn’t setting in just right. How could a world like this truly exist? But, that wasn’t what was keeping her up. It wasn’t like she could take a vacation from those thoughts simply because she was possibly away from Naraku. He’d done things like this before, trick her and make her believe that she was safe, and she was not going to have that happen again. But the question was how he’d caused this to happen. He didn’t have the powers to do this, change a whole world. He could change vast landscapes, though….she would have to keep herself on guard for now, and pretend that she was still loyal to his cause, and that she was at least worried.
The sudden rustling had Kagura whipping her head to the side, near the path that had been made to the next town. It seemed strange that weren’t using a form of light, and they weren’t waiting in another town or somewhere farther down. Then again, if they really wanted the comforts of a nice warm bed, they would have to travel to this place, wouldn’t they? Either way, Kagura was not going to let them get the best of her in a world that didn’t make sense. Although her powers were gone, she hopped down from the branch, and her Hoothoot behind her, as she got in a defensive stance.
“Show yourself.”
PENDING
Re: PENDING
Kagura generally thinks before she speaks, thus, her interactions with others are semi-limited. While this can change (depending upon if she's provoked, surprised or otherwise compromised), her interactions generally follow two routes: either she feels that the person she is talking to would be a worthy ally or they can give her information that she needs, or that they are entertaining enough to torment. Either way, when she talks, she is generally short with whomever she is talking to, sticking to internal processing rather than thinking out loud. Simply put, she is not one for short talk and finds no need for it.
When talking to others, she speaks to people differently based on how she views them. Someone not worth her time will get little more than a dismissal, enemies get taunted, and someone who annoys her will get snide comments made to their face. Speaking on the issue of respect, Kagura seems to have very little for anyone, at least when she speaks to them. She doesn't really hold her tongue often in anger, and when talking to someone she respects, it's barely better than someone she doesn't: her tone is still casual, even semi-disregarding. No matter who you are, Kagura seems off-putting and rude.
Really, how close you are to Kagura is shown by what kind of information she gives you. The more information she gives you, the more she likes you. But that doesn't mean she'll be direct, either. She's prone to being a hint dropper, and those hints are vague, but not vague to the point that no one will get them. After all, since all of her motions are being watched, it makes the most sense to be as careful as she can.
As for how she analyzes others, it's a lot of connecting the dots that aren't so obvious. As an example, I'll use Kagura finding out that Naraku is a half demon. Kagura notices that Naraku's usually strong barrier is growing weak during one night of the month when Koga can actually smell Naraku (which is normally prevented by the barrier), where he retreats to the cellar and refuses to let her go out. During this night, she realizes that half-demons have a night of weakness one night of the month when she fights Inuyasha. When she gets back to the castle that Naraku is staying at, she goes to the cellar, and realizes that he's not simply rearranging himself--that was his night of weakness, and that's why he won't let her go out or come out of the cellar. She understands this before anyone in the main cast does, and plans to use it to her advantage.
When analyzing a person, she goes off of what she understands about them from the information given. If someone is being secretive, like Naraku was, not only does she try to figure out what it is, she uses the information that she has--his barrier is weak, he won't let anyone leave-- to try and understand what they are hiding. Also, she remembers past actions and can infer things based on what exactly was done. Naraku had given Kagura Hakudoshi to take care of, and Kanna the other half, known as the Infant. Knowing that Naraku saw his humanity as a weakness and that he would have cast it off allowed her to understand that this pair probably was it, and she also knew that she was not trusted by Naraku. So, thus, she inferred, the part that Kanna was given was Naraku's heart, and that would allow him to be killed. She analyzes people based on actions, abilities, and their past.
First Person Sample:
"Che. Just get it over with." Kagura handed over the pokeball that held her fainted Hoothoot, not bothering to make eye contact with the petite nurse who had asked for them a few seconds earlier. The slightly frightened nurse took it and started to heal it using the machine that Kagura understood as using a spell or charm of some sort to help the animal who had been injured. The woman handed it over a minute later, and Kagura snatched it up without so much as a "thank you" as she headed towards the door.
As far as she was concerned, however, none of this stuff mattered. Not the bird inside the ball she was now holding, not this completely insane world where people trapped dumb animals in balls to fight with each other because they were too weak to fight themselves. While it did interest her to figure out how she'd ended up here and why, it was not really on her mind. What was, though, was the fact that Naraku was not here with her. She couldn't think that she was free, not just yet. He was not the type to let someone go without making them suffer, she knew. The memory of being locked up for six months inside that dungeon creeped up in her memory, and it only served to steel her mind even more that this was a trap, and a dangerous one at that.
"Are you done?" the raven asked in a low tone as she stepped outside. She was lucky enough to run into this fellow, who reminded her of Sesshomaru in a heartbeat. From what she could tell, he was just as strong, and just as secretive. He would be a powerful ally to have, she knew. His strength and seriousness would go to his animals as well, and they would be strong. Having him beside her in a fight of these animals made her confident that she would win, and if it was anything to go by, winning was the way out of this place.
And she would use him to her greatest advantage. "Let's go." she said, heading towards the tall grass. "Lets get this over with."
