Personality:
Fraser is polite to a fault. He can easily end up trapped holding the door for others because it never hurts to be courteous. He remains polite and considerate even when others are rude. He doesn’t complain or acknowledge things that bother him. He eventually admits he occasionally, very occasionally feels unappreciated, which he only admitted when it seemed likely he and Ray would drown. He’s also very friendly. He is willing to stop and talk to anyone. He is willing and ready to help anyone to the best of his ability.
Fraser is a compulsive truth teller. This tends to cause him problems both because people don’t believe he’s telling the truth, particularly because a lot of the truths are rather far fetched and because, as Ray said, people don’t want to hear the truth. Sometimes his truths give criminals an advantage, such as acknowledging that he doesn’t have a gun or at least it doesn’t have bullets. He also tends to believe that other people will tell the truth. He's not so naive that he thinks no one lies, but he gives people the benefit of the doubt more often than he should. That said, his blatant honesty has also convinced people to help with cases and that they should trust him.
Fraser doesn’t express emotions, at least not where people can see. He didn’t cry at his father’s funeral, he just focused on finding his killer. He doesn’t get angry; he gets concerned or worried. Even when his live is at stake he keeps his emotions in check. He does occasionally talk about his feelings but only when he has an ulterior motive. He confessed that he when he was little he had always wished that his father’s murderer was his dad. He then said that Gerrard broke his heart by killing his father. He later said he only said that because he was trying to unnerve the other men and nothing more unnerving to men than discussing feelings.
Fraser is an extremely loyal friend. He can be blind to the faults of his friends. One example is Mark Smithbauer, who Fraser is sure would never throw a hockey game even though he hadn’t seen him since they were 13. Ultimately he did come to realize that Mark took the money even if Mark couldn’t bring himself to throw the game. He was still proud of Mark for coming clean about the bet. A much more extreme case is Victoria. He described Victoria as having a darkness in her, but he was still willing to give her everything. But what happened with Victoria was less a matter of loyalty and more a matter of misplaced guilt.
Victoria is the first case where Fraser puts something before his duty. When he first fell for Victoria, he could have let her go, but instead he arrested her because it was his duty. Arresting Victoria was something he regretted. It was such a regret that he let her nearly destroy him. It wasn’t even just him he let her drag down. Ray was dragged into the whole revenge plot as well. Up until Victoria plants evidence in Ray’s house that would suggest he had the stolen money, Fraser was constantly trying to justify Victoria’s actions. Even after he set her up to get caught he still let her go and nearly ran away with her. It’s interesting that he was willing to go to such lengths for her since he was willing to have Diefenbaker, his best friend who had saved his life, be put to sleep when he started to act out and it was the judges orders, going so far as being the one to shoot him if need be.
He can be reckless with his and his friends’ lives. He has a tendency to jump on moving vehicles and has nearly been responsible for both Rays drowning at different points. When Ray Vecchio told Fraser how many times he had nearly gotten Ray killed, he seemed honestly surprised both by the number and the fact that Ray kept count.

[Fraser stands up straight, smiling. He seems awfully cheerful for someone who just woke up in a strange new place.]
Hello, I’m Constable Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police. For reasons that do not need exploring at this juncture, I have spent that past few years in Chicago. For reasons I do not understand, I am now in a town called New Bark Town. In fact, I have understood very little of what has happened since I woke up in a home of a very kind but confused woman. She seemed to be under the impression that I was her son. Since leaving her home, I have been talking to the town folks and trying to get a better idea of where I am. Now, I was wondering if any of you know how I can get back to Chicago. I’ve already been missing to much this week for my boss’s health. Thank you, kindly.
[He pauses for a moment, then adds]
Do you hear that music?
Third Person Sample:
Fraser had offered to help the woman who kept claiming he was her son find her actual son, but she simply gave him his pack and pushed him out the door, locking it behind him. She didn’t seem afraid or confused. She also didn’t appear to be lying. She had been confident that he was her son and he wasn’t sure what to make of that. When he asked the neighbors around town, they told him about the same thing she had said. He was her son and wasn’t he excited about starting his pokémon adventure. He had figured out that he had a small ball in his bag that held his pokémon. He wasn’t even going to attempt to figure out how the dog, or rather dog-like creature, fit in such a tiny space. At least not right now. He also wasn’t about to put the creature back into the small space.
Once it became obvious that he would not be getting back to Chicago in a timely manner, nor could he call the consulate to let them know he was safe, Fraser decided that he should try to fit in. Not in New Bark Town, but in Johto and Kanto. And that meant being a Pokémon trainer. That meant he needed to start on the trail to Cherrygrove City. Besides camping and a hike was just what he needed. He tried not to think about how much more fun this would be with Ray before remembering that Ray would probably hate hiking. That didn’t stop him from missing Ray, both of them. And he definitely missed Diefenbaker. Tupper was sweet and energetic, but he wasn’t Dief. He glanced down at the Houndour. “Do you want to go catch some pokémon?” Tupper barked. Fraser smiled. He might be missing his friends, but he wasn’t alone. He would be okay.
