APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Personality:
Imagine a small, wide-eyed child following you around almost like a duckling, with a tiny voice but a very big heart and a whole lot of gusto. Replace duckling with penguin (because we've got strict animal themes going here) and that is essentially Nagisa Hazuki. Even as a high schooler, nothing much about Nagisa is mature, as he's very much a child at heart and is more than content to act like it. Aside from his small stature, everything else about him is large and incredibly abundant, from his gleeful voice to the energy he puts out in just about everything he does, most importantly in swimming. Nagisa has been a swimmer since he was a small child, and over time he has become very good at it, which is rather fitting considering his small group of friends all happen to be swimmers as well. It's such an important interest that all of them gather to form a swimming club at their high school, and even when they're threatened with a lack of proper members, Nagisa takes it upon himself to find a perfect match for their group. Which means someone with a potentially beautiful swimming style and a girly name. Because, ironically, even though his group of friends is all boys, they all have girls' names. Don't ask why.

But having a girly name isn't much of an issue to Nagisa, especially considering the fact that he naturally likes to give people cute nicknames from the start, no matter the protests he receives, but it's not meant out of any spite. Nagisa is just incredibly friendly, and it's almost in his nature to try to get along with anyone he interacts with, as it comes to him with no problems at all. Even with someone like Haruka, who is as stone-faced and expressionless as any individual could come, Nagisa treats him as a dear friend and even looks up to him, admiring the focus and love that Haru has for swimming and being in the water. In fact it's because of Haru that Nagisa became interested in swimming in the first place, which goes to show how loyal of a friend he can be. He embraces people very well, literally and figuratively, and sees the best in individuals. When he first meets Rei, Nagisa becomes absolutely attached to him and persists in trying to get him to join the swim club. Even after Rei gives him hundreds of denials and complaints about not wanting to touch the swim club or attempt swimming to begin with, Nagisa continues his efforts and refuses to take no for an answer. It's hard to believe that after such an encounter, Rei and Nagisa are such close friends, but that's the sort of attachment Nagisa is able to build with people he takes a liking to.

While Nagisa is a very kind individual, and a very animated one at that, he's not completely immune to the existence of insecurities that all people naturally have in their lives. Nagisa has his own faults, and he falls into ruts that he prefers to keep other people away from. While he has a positive attitude, he suffers from the issue of trying to balance hobbies he loves and enjoys with having to focus on the essentials of schoolwork and trying to form a future for himself. Nagisa prefers to focus on things he enjoys, and so issues that bother him tend to be ignored, such as negative emotions or troubles at school. He's much more the type to want to talk about the ups in his life rather than the downs, and while that might make conversations more uplifting, it doesn't help him to solve the problems he might be facing at the time. He'd much rather hide those things and mask them with a cheerful face, which not only harms himself but the friends around him as well, because while Nagisa is a very cheerful individual, he's also the sort of person that makes it very obvious when something happens to be bothering him. This is his downfall to having such an upbeat and childish attitude, but because of the friends around him and the close bonds he's built with them, he's able to find away to bounce back and find a solution to his issues with no worries. That's the true benefit of his personality, because when you make an effort to make people happy, then you'll have someone right by your side to bring you back up when you fall down.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

First and foremost, Nagisa is an excellent swimmer. His specialty stroke is the breast stroke.
Out of all the members of the Iwatobi swim team, Nagisa is the most energetic of the group, and his attitude tends to be incredibly positive. He always makes a large effort to be friendly. This is a large factor in how the group was able to gain one extra member toward their swim club in the very beginning, since it was through his lively attitude that he was able to recruit Rei to join them and thus be able to become an official school swimming club.
Even though he appears small and innocent, Nagisa has a daring streak and is more than willing to take risks. It's a difficult personality to keep up with and could lead others into a lot of trouble, including Nagisa himself, but sometimes situations occur where someone needs to be able to take caution to the wind and go with their gut instinct, and Nagisa takes on that role very well.

He's a bit of a big child and falls into many instances where he acts and behaves immaturely. This can make it hard to have Nagisa react seriously at certain times since he's more intent on having fun and being silly, or he tries to lighten up a heavy mood in ways that might not seem appropriate.
Change is very difficult for Nagisa to accept, whether it comes from losing friends or shifts of importance in the things he does in his life. Instead of focusing on trying to find a solution to an issue at hand, he becomes very emotional or avoidant, which just exasperates the issue further. When the Iwatobi swim team suspects that Rei might be leaving the team and they all decide to confront him about the possible issue, Nagisa becomes very upset at the thought of not being able to swim with Rei. Also, when Nagisa's parents begin to pressure him into leaving the swim team because of his low grades at school, he runs away from home instead of confronting his parents about his feelings. He also does not talk to his friends about what the problem is until they all confront him and force him to talk about it.
Nagisa is very persistent in acting in his own ways, which is highlighted best in the nicknames he chooses for people, which can sound particularly "girly". For example, he often uses the suffix "-chan" when referring to his friends, even boys, which is typically only used for girls or for cute things. He simply finds it to be a nice endearing term but for others (especially new people he meets) it could prove to be embarrassing or even a bit of a nuisance.
