APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Strength/Weaknesses:

+/- It's my biological imperative to protect them

Veronica was created for one reason, to protect the professor and everything he had against those that would use it for harmful purposes. She'll defend her family and loved ones that have been caught in the way to the end and lay down her life if it comes to it. It's her duty as a bodyguard to protect them. Although, really all she's supposed to do is protect her family and her home. Other things might be ignored since they're not part of her duty.

+/- I was made to be the best

And the best she is. Honestly though, Veronica was created with fighting in mind and it shows. Her eyes can see in infrared, her ears can pick up extremely high frequency sounds, she can emit a jet of fire from her mouth, and her fingertips have needles inserted into them that secret a paralytic poison that fights regenerative powers. She's also quite used to going through painful situations, and although it's not something she enjoys in any sense, she's generally rather durable. All of these will obviously either be removed or toned down if necessary.

+ Without being seen

Veronica has been trained to move quietly. Part of her lifestyle was being an assassin of course, so she had to make sure she was good at sneaking up on others. Here she'll probably still be able to do that, but whether it is effective against wild Pokémon will have to depend on what type it is.

+ Surviving is a specialty of a Madaraki

Being a little girl that traveled the world alone in search of her home, while being hunted by secret organizations and without help almost wherever she went, obviously Veronica would pick up some survival skills along the way. She knows how to hunt animals, find clean water, find or make reasonable shelter, etcetera.

+/- I hope we meet in battle

It's probably very odd to say that a teenaged girl is well trained in the ways of hand to hand combat, sword fighting, and even the use and creation of explosives. But that's just how Veronica is. She's also stronger than the average girl her age, though that can be attributed to the extensive workouts she usually gets through her job. Back home, Veronica could also run very quickly, fast enough to seemingly disappear from the human eye. Here, it'll be brought down to an above average human level of speed.

+/- Thinking and acting

As noted, Veronica has a wide knowledge of fighting tactics and how her opponents will act or move. Even if she gets surprised by something, she'll learn and adapt. Ergo, her reflexes are amazing in fights, though not so much in Pokémon battles; at least, until she figure out how that can of worms works and gets better at it. She tends to jump into action though, possibly at inopportune times.

+ A thing for animals

Notably, Veronica didn't travel completely alone all the time. For a while, her only companion, and the only one that liked her was a dog. This has lead her to be actually quite affectionate towards certain animals, and she might step in to help one if something's happened.

- What's this thing you call friendship?

Unfortunately, despite all her abilities, Veronica is still a very socially distant sixteen year old girl who's life has been severely lacking in contact with others. Although she can hold a conversation with someone if she has to, she doesn't usually start them. Her lack of social grace will no doubt lead to difficulties in the future.

- Super drowning skills

Quite possibly one of her biggest weaknesses is that Veronica can't swim. Because of the way she was made, and the weight of her weapons, she generally sinks like a rock if she tries. Hopefully one of the things she'll get on her journey are some water wings.

- I'm scared of ghosts

She is. Like a lot. While never really focused upon, Veronica's pretty clearly afraid of them and believes them to be not real. It's probably because she can't kill them if she tried.

Samples
First Person Sample: [The video opens and it shows.... nothing. Well, to be more specific, it shows the sky of the Johto region. The blue sky of a new day, the bright sun peeking out of the corner of a mass of cloud, the cries of wild Pokémon in the distance. It's almost serene.]

... How does.... okay, that will probably...

[A voice cuts through the serenity. Young, feminine; a little quiet but at the same time there's a steeliness behind it. All at once the screen jerks and it pulls away from the sky to show a random tree, then a rock, and finally a face. It's the face of a girl, can't be more than sixteen at that. A black fedora sits atop her head, equally black hair spilling from underneath it in locks. She actually takes a moment to brush it aside before speaking, drawing further attention to the strange, criss-crossing stitch-scars that went around her neck and along her face, meeting in the middle to create an "X" above the bridge of her nose.]

Umm... [Her mouth opened and closed. Lost for a moment, the girl seemed to pause to collect her thoughts. It looked like she didn't want to even speak. Sighing softly, she finally spoke.] This is ridiculous, all of it. I have no idea how the hell I got here, and on top of everything it feels like my senses were dulled. Was I operated on? Maybe Fran did this. But why? And I've never seen these before...

[She brings a hand up to the screen, waving a minimized pokeball in it. The grumpy girl was apparently very new to all of this. Even if it had been explained to her, it seems everything was still too confusing for her taste.]

So, we're supposed to use animals to fight? Where's the honor in that? You should fight yourself, instead of having others do it for you.

[She shakes her head and gives the screen a look.]

This could be a trap for all I know. Whoever is responsible for this better just tell me where Fran is or how I can get back to here. I have a duty to attend to and I can't waste time on stupid things like this-

[Murkrow!

Quite suddenly, and this was surely a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, The screen is ripped from the girl's hands by a what looks to be a Pokémon's claws. It quickly lifts off into the sky, the screen pointed downward to show the girl sprinting after it. She can be heard (and seen) shouting at it.
]

Stupid bird! Come back here and give that back!

[The bird pokemon simply replies with some more squawking, which could have been interpreted as laughter at her expense, and keeps flying.]

Third Person Sample:

Veronica Madaraki was not the kind of person that was fazed by certain things anymore. Why would she? After countless days of bloodshed, gore, and experiments, she almost got accustomed to it. A warrior always had to be prepared to deal with things as they came. Although, she had always been shocked by her sister's work, most else was stuff she'd already dealt with.

Fainted Pokémon were a surprising change of pace though.

"Come on... Don't just give out on me..." She muttered to the bird Pokemon cradled in her arms. The tall buildings of Goldenrod city around the two seemed to blur together as Veronica put all of herself into dashing towards the familiar shape that was the Pokémon center. It hadn't been something she expected, even if she knew it would happen eventually. It had been a rouge Rotom in a random department store. Ugh, ghosts. They always decided to pop out and be scary at the worst times, make her jump out of her skin. It had struck Murkrow with a lightening bolt spot on and he'd fainted on the spot. A moment of processing had told the bodyguard it was over and she quickly retreated from the haunted place. Those ghosts would get what they deserved, one day.

Her arrival at the pokemon center was signaled by the familiar chime that rung when she stepped through the entrance. Quickly making her way to the front desk, the nurse gave Veronica an understanding look and took her Pokémon into the back. Meanwhile, Veronica was told to wait.

"Stupid ghosts..." She muttered angrily, hugging her shoulders as she found a seat on a random couch apart from everyone else. "There's no such thing... they're a myth."

But they existed. In this strange, new world Veronica Madaraki had found herself in, ghost and monsters existed. The monsters were nothing like the ones she had in her own world either. They were what constituted for normal in this world, something she'd never understand. If Fran had found herself here, she would have likely freaked out at all the new species to examine.

She examined her scarred fingers, the needles that had been inserted in her fingertips since "birth" removed by some unknown force. It was like they were never even there. All of her other senses felt dulled as well. She couldn't run as fast, or jump as high as she used to. Whatever brought her here took her abilities. "How" was a main question, certainly not through surgery at least. The only thing left for her to do was to try and adapt. It wasn't like "Pokémon trainer" was a thing she'd ever thought about doing though, she hadn't even known what that was before coming here.

"Hmm..." Thinking to herself, Veronica let her gaze go over the center, taking in every person there and every detail. Sighing, she let herself sink into her seat.

This was pointless, at least in her eyes. Why was she even going through with this master trainer journey anyways? Fran needed her back home. She should be doing her job.

What was her job? Protecting her home and her family of course, that's what a good bodyguard did. But, as things would have it, she was without a home, without powers or weapons to use, and without a person to protect. The entire reason for her existence didn't exist here. She frowned and crossed her arms, suddenly feeling self-conscious. What could she do now?

"Murkrow!" The familiar sound of flapping wings signaled the arrival of her Pokémon, now fully healed. Murkrow fluttered over to her and landed on the table. The nurse gave the two a little wave from her desk before retuning to work. Veronica didn't understand how they could heal up Pokémon so fast, but then again she didn't understand how Fran did what she did either.

"Uh..." She regarded her pokemon quietly, giving him a few, uncertain pats on the head. Regardless, it was accepted heartily. "I guess you don't know what we should do now, do you?" She asked plainly, already not expecting any kind of helpful answer.

"Krow!" The bird squawked, preening some of his feathers. He didn't care. As long as his trainer was doing something, he was fine with it. Not like she'd ever know that though. Again, he didn't care.

"Okay." She sat back in her seat, feeling quite lost and letting another sigh escape her. Maybe she'd set out tomorrow, go somewhere else and train. She'd traveled before, all over her world. Who knew what else was in this world. At least there was a less likely chance of being attacked by hitmen or gang members, right?

"...Let's get out of here." She finally decided. "Maybe Fran is in another town, looking for me. I have to check."

Murkrow let out a cawing noise that Veronica chose to interpret as an agreement. Rising to her feet, the bodyguard checked herself and her Pokémon over one last time before she silently made her way to the exit. Murkow, still outside of its pokeball, fluttered into the air and around Veronica before finally landing on the wise top of her fedora, settling down to preen his feathers. Veronica stopped briefly to glance up at the barely visible bird. Sure, she could hold the weight easily, but why did he have to be there?

She just sighed and exited through the main doors. She'd never understand animals here.
