APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Telepathy — Schuldig's most prominent and most well-known trait. Having been educated at Rosenkreuz for a large portion of his life (and formative years), Schuldig is an incredibly powerful and dangerous telepath who possesses the ability to read people's minds, force his way past people's mental shields into their minds, link a series of minds for a private group chat, and control someone's actions and movements by seizing control of their mind and directing their thoughts. While his own telepathy will naturally be stripped away in Route, that doesn't mean he'll have forgotten everything he learned at Rosenkreuz — in short, Schuldig stands a very good chance of being able to teach a Psychic Pokemon how to maximize its potential to fuck people up in a variety of ways, and he's exactly the sort of person who would. God forbid he manages to amass an army of the little bastards, because he'll definitely make them a force to be reckoned with.

Jump Good — Pretty self-explanatory; Schuldig's other canon ability is the fact that he can jump like a grasshopper, whether it be for a dramatic entrance, exit, or just because he needs to get from one place to another in a hurry. On a related note, he also seems to display some variety of enhanced speed and agility, though some of that may be the byproduct of him using his telepathy to fuck with his targets' minds to make them think he's moving differently than he is.

Assassin — Schuldig is really good at wreaking havoc and killing people. From canon we know that he's proficient in the building, setting, and exploding of bombs; he's also a good shot with a gun (his weapon of choice), and can definitely hold his own in unarmed combat as well. Between his reflexes and his telepathy, it's hard to get the drop on him, and if he wants you fucked up, well, you're probably going to be. Related skills include the ability to drive a number of vehicles, the ability to pilot a helicopter, and the knowledge of how to work a Skype camera without their Boy Wonder's assistance. Though he tends to be most successful when acting on directions from someone else, when it comes to achieving those goals he's very good at working in the moment with what he's got in front of him at the time, and at adapting to changing circumstances in order to get the job done.

Button-Pusher — Spending life being privy to the thoughts of others has made Schuldig pretty familiar with how to read people, and by extension how to get on their nerves. He's pretty good at finding the one thing that'll set off a person most, and then sitting around needling at it just for the sake of pissing people off. Sometimes his motives are...at least reasonably benign, I.E. he's sort of bored and he's hassling one of his teammates for the sake of something to do. Other times, they're very much not benign, and he's fucking with you for the sole purpose of seeing how long it'll take you to break.

The Designated That Guy™ — Schuldig calls things like he sees them, and when exterior motives aren't acting in some way to reign him in, he's more than happy to be the guy who points out when someone is acting stupid, or to call bullshit when he perceives it. That doesn't mean he won't then subsequently go along with whatever bullshit has just been advanced, of course, but he does banter, he does sarcasm, and he doesn't mind providing color commentary on what's going on around him, regardless of...let's say, "social propriety".

Psychic Complications — The flip side of Schuldig's telepathy, because it really is both a blessing and a curse. We're told in canon that Schuldig sometimes has problems with other minds encroaching on his own, to the point where it gets hard for him to distinguish between what are his own thoughts and what are someone else's. Thanks to the power-stripping, that won't be an issue in Route, but what will be an issue is the fact that Schuldig relies heavily on his telepathy for a number of things, and suddenly finding himself stripped of it will be a rude awakening. There'll assuredly be an adjustment period during which he gets used to the fact that he can't hear people's thoughts anymore, and he might actually end up thankful for the presence of the BGM just for the sake of having some semblance of background noise in a world where, for him, a whole lot of ever-present stimuli has just gone suddenly silent.

Lack of Foresight — Schuldig is a tactician, not a strategist. He's not the guy you trust for making a long-term plan; he's the guy to whom you feed the short-term, bite-size goal and tell him to go get it done for you. He's not a natural leader (though he hates being a forced follower, too — Schwarz ultimately backstabs Esset in the final episode of the series because they're sick of being used as pawns), and works better when there's someone else providing the big-picture guidance in that respect. Though he's good at thinking on his feet in the moment, he doesn't always think of the long-term consequences of his actions, and has gotten himself into trouble more than once because of it.

Congrats! You're An Asshole — I think the phrase "morally bankrupt" has been beaten to death by this point, but Schuldig is really not a good person. He seemingly subscribes to Schwarz's perspective on the state of things throughout the series, which effectively boils down to: "The entire world is basically shit, so let's just kill everyone because why the hell not." He sees people as playthings and has no qualms about messing with them for the sake of his own amusement; stereotypically "good" people are frequently the recipients of his taunting and disdain because Schuldig is of the opinion that no one in the world is really good — all human beings are corrupt, once you peel away the societal veneer that keeps them in line.

Distance — Like his character sheet and canon quotes have indicated, Schuldig "draws a clear line between himself and those around him", most likely as a defense mechanism against the encroaching thoughts that come as a natural drawback of being such a powerful telepath. He makes a conscious effort not to get attached to things, most likely because if he ever were to get attached, he'd get attached to a really unhealthy degree. For all that he can seem wild and chaotic, he's very big on control — having freedom taken away from him, or feeling as though he's being manipulated himself without any possible way of striking back, would likely not sit well with him at all.

Rosenkreuz — We have next to no idea what actually happened at Rosenkreuz, but it's a pretty safe bet that it fucked Schuldig up something awful. Tying in to his distaste for a lack of control, there are probably some unspecified yet deep-seated traumas lurking there as a result of whatever Rosenkreuz put him through, but we're simply not privy to them in canon because he's got such a good lid on them. However, it's worth noting that he is heavily implied to have a pretty messed-up history, and that may be one of the things I ultimately end up exploring during gameplay.
