APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

REVISIONS;;

Strengths:
In terms of physical strength and fitness, Terra will be well-equipped to handle the harsh realities of Pokemon trainer life... well, the travel part, anyway. He's six feet of pure muscle, trained to wield both weapons and magic, and is in the best physical conditioning you can imagine. He will be totally ready to cross miles of rugged terrain, on foot. The Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep novelization hints that training in the Land of Departure also involves mountain climbing and DRAMATIC WATERFALL-STANDING, so it's safe to assume that Terra is basically equipped to climb Mount Silver with his bare hands upon arrival, barring Wild Pokemon encounters. He also has your basic wilderness survival skills.

If threatened by an unruly lawbreaker who has no respect for Pokemon battling, Terra can defend himself easily. He's strong, enduring, and hits like a truck. Even without his Keyblade, or a weapon of any kind, Terra can fight most opponents hand-to-hand, although he's not a master of any particular fighting style, and an opponent who specializes in hand-to-hand martial arts could probably take him down. Not without a fight, though. Gonna have to get up PRET-TY EARLY to take this dude's Pokemon.

In terms of mental strength, do not let the fandom memes fool you: Terra is pretty smart. He will easily absorb the elemental strengths/weaknesses chart, since he has familiarity with elemental magic in his universe, and is a powerful tactician on the ground. He's no long-term strategist, and isn't likely to come up with a competitive-tier Pokemon strategy, but he can think around obstacles and figure out how best to maximize his (and by extension, his Pokemon's) skills and strengths to prevail in a given fight.

He's also used to having to observe and adjust to cultural differences and nuances, since he was trained to be a member of a peace-keeping order that oversees all worlds, so he will be able to adjust to the way Pokeworld is set up pretty quickly. He's not likely to fret much (at first) about returning home, since he's used to spending long periods of time in foreign places to complete missions or hunt monsters threatening world stability.

As for emotional strengths, Terra will eventually make a good trainer because he is patient and ready to encourage others to help them get stronger. His experience growing up and helping his friend Ventus relearn how to use the Keyblade (among other things) will definitely aid him here. He is good at recognizing the strengths of others (as opposed to his own), and that's certainly an asset in a Pokemon trainer. He is also not boastful when he defeats others in battle, so it's safe to assume he will be able to build a nice support group of friends and friendly rivals within Route, to say nothing of casual acquaintanceships.

Weaknesses:
Terra doesn't have many physical weaknesses that are particularly relevant to Route, but it's important to note that he is slow-moving in a fight, and anything much faster than he is will have a big advantage over him.

More importantly, his biggest weakness in Route will probably be integrating himself into society. Although Terra is friendly, he tends to remain aloof with people who aren't fellow Keyblade wielders, since he is used to having to hide who is he and where he's from with vanilla world citizens. It's a violation of world order to disclose his true nature as an outsider, and even after Terra finds out most people know and take for granted that they all come from other worlds within Route, his tendency to hold new friends and acquaintances at arm's length will be harder to unlearn. After (and even during) completing the Gym Challenges, Terra might have a hard time figuring out what there is to do for him after that.

Terra has a hard time picking out liars who have good PR - his tendency to classify everything into a sharp good/evil dichotomy often blinds him to subtleties. It'll be easy for him to spot a Rocket by the uniform, but a manipulative person or a poisonous friend? A lot harder for him. Since he trusts nearly everyone he meets unless he has an obvious reason not to, Terra is very easy to lie to. Also, in any sort of Psychic Pokepocalypse scenario, Terra's in trouble. His mental shields are pretty bad. Like, "I fought it off for five minutes but I wound up compelled by an evil fairy to steal a young princess's heart" bad. (I don't know if this is likely, but you never know.)

Terra is used to relying on his and only his own strength, so at first, the concept of fighting with Pokemon will be difficult for him to accept. He barely relies on his friends to carry him, why would he want to put this cute electric rat in harm's way, for example? It may take some time for him to accept Pokemon battling as a sign of a trainer's trust in his Pokemon and skill in battle strategy, as well as of his skillful raising and nurturing of his Pokemon. Once he catches onto this, it will go better, but not before he makes some serious faux pas.

Finally, Terra's emotional weaknesses. This is a sort of meta weakness, but Terra has a pretty horrible future lined up ahead of him. If another character or castmate managed to spoil that for him, he would probably fall into a serious depression. In general, actually, Terra is prone to self-doubt, guilt, and problems of self-worth. He's already hurt someone so badly that he thinks he can never return home - another serious error, and he could become very seriously depressed. He also, when pushed to the brink by threatening his friends, is capable of doing serious violence in anger. If his friends ever came to harm by someone else's deliberate actions, he could wind up lashing out in anger or revenge and getting into serious trouble.
