APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Helpful links!

As one of the minor characters, Kirikou doesn't get as much backstory or development as some of the main cast. This is unfortunate, since as a character he is quite fascinating! He's one of the top three strongest meisters in the Academy, a teenager who is already seemingly responsible for two small children, and one of the only characters in the series who can establish a soul resonance connection with FOUR different demon weapons at the same time! (One of the main characters, Death the Kid, is the son of a god basically and even he can only manage two.) With what we've seen in canon, we can establish that Kirikou has the follow traits: a strong sense of loyalty, a fierce temper that comes with it, the ability to keep his calm in combat situations, a maturity not usually seen in teenagers that comes with raising children, and a sense of immaturity that somehow still manages to shine through.

He's still a teenager, after all.

Like many characters in the Soul Eater canon, Kirikou can be startlingly mature when the situation calls for it. This is what happens when you're raised as basically child soldiers. Combat scenes and stuff that would make normal people flinch won't reach him as hard. He probably won't even think it's that strange that it's normal to make small animals (which sometimes grow into giant animals) fight. This also means his worldview is a bit skewed. In a world where it's commonly expected those with meister or weapon abilities to go into it as young as possible, Kirikou won't see the issue with many things that those in more 'normal' worlds would. The primary example would be learning to fight for your life at only thirteen (and younger). Considering the dangerous opponents meisters have to face (such as serial killers at the very least and Witches at the worst), he also has had to acknowledge that dying is a thing that can happen out in the field, either for himself or his loved ones. While it's never explicitly stated in canon, life expectancy for meisters and weapons is probably lower than some other worlds because of the constant fighting they are required to do. Fortunately this doesn't seem to be something that bothers Kirikou often, as he is shown to be one of the characters with a fairly high confidence in himself and his partners. Even when he is left without his weapons against dangerous foes, he almost seems to be more comically frightened than truly worried and in a later scene is shown to have evaded most of them with little trouble until his team can come in and save his ass.

As a 13-15 year old who has been taking care of two young children, it stands to reason that he's also a good nurturing figure and fairly responsible even moreso than some Academy students already are. Canon never explains how Kirikou came to be partnered with two weapons who are extremely young, whether it's something to do with his (canonly "Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Film") family or that Fire and Thunder may be orphans. However, he seems to take care of them very well just by the fact that they are willing to stand by him in dangerous situations as his weapon partners. When they are distressed, he shows concern for them and is not afraid to show his gentleness by actively kneeling down so that they can come into his arms. While he does play a parental role to them, he also seems to treat them as equals to some degree and shows trust in their abilities. An example of this is the two times he's paid attention when they've communed with the earth as shamans. There is no doubt shown from him in what they're communicating or their skills. He accepts it's truth that magic has corrupted a natural area, and he also relies on them to find a hidden place. This speaks a lot about both his trust in those he views as friends and teammates, and also in the world he has grown up in where children are expected to be skilled in things that a more "real world" like setting would attribute to belong to adults.

Of course, he's far from serious all the time. In canon, he's gotten into fights with Black Star over a chocolate bar (while they were in the middle of a warzone although not yet involved) and has teased his friends. He's also gotten excited in regards to his friends, cheering on Ox to 'get the girl' and rescue her. Anyone who is a bit different from him is viewed as a bit odd in that way that teenagers sometimes slip into. When Ox and Maka start to compare notes about one of Soul's recently gained abilities, he brushes off their nerdgasm as something that belongs to small brained water fleas. (A bit hypocritical considering his own apparent love of music when he immediately starts to talk to Soul about a drum he found on his own mission. Maka even refers to him, when properly translated, that he and Soul are basically the same as her and Ox.) While he doesn't seem to mean it with any honest ill will, it's just one of those flaws he has as a teenager still a little bit wrapped up in his own world. It seems he's just as likely to get into shenanigans as well, although not as much as when he was thirteen.

Loyalty is a strong theme in Soul Eater, and Kirikou isn't exempt from having such a trait. When they finally get attacked in the warzone mentioned earlier, Kirikou shows a desire not to leave his teammates Kim and Ox behind on their own and works with them to beat the enemy force. He also shows his maturity in giving up the chocolate bar to Black Star so he can "keep up his strength". That same intense loyalty is also apparent when Kim is forced to run away from the Academy. He immediately gets enraged that she was chased away and still believes that she is on their side. This scene and those after it also display his temper, however. He's immediately enraged that his friend Ox is not as angry as he is, and later shows rage that they have to team up with the very person who outed Kim in the first place. In fact, he tells it to that person's face right as they're on a mission. It's only because of his loyalty to his friends (Ox showing confidence and trust in him) that has him go along with it in the first place.

In short, Kirikou is quite an extraordinary young man who's still finding the perfect balance of maturity and childishness, and with a deep intense caring for those who have earned his friendship.
