APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Ellone | Final Fantasy VIII | Reserved 2/2

[personal profile] connects 2013-08-03 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Ellone is a kind-mannered girl, whom, despite going through a lot of rough spots in her past, retains her innocence, and wishes to bring her ‘family’ back together again. Having lost her real parents at a very young age, and then taken in by Raine, Ellone never has seemed to let tragedy bring her down, or at least for very long. Rather, even as a little girl, she’s remained innocent and kind, which later earned her the nickname ‘Sis’ during the time she later spent living in Edea’s orphanage, due to caring for the other children like an older sister. A girl with an unusual power, Ellone has spent a good portion of her life on the run or hiding from those that wish to use it, the events of which lead Ellone to shape her plan of using said powers to change the past.

The person most important to Ellone is Laguna, whom she grew to see as an uncle as a child, and she’s attached to him as a result. Ellone loves her Uncle Laguna dearly, to where she tried to change the past to prevent her own kidnapping initially so that he could stay home in Winhill with her and Raine. Barring that, Ellone tried to get Laguna to return to Winhill instead of staying in Esthar, though that, too, also failed. Still, despite this leading up to Raine’s death, and Ellone and the newborn Squall being sent to the orphanage, Ellone still believes in her Uncle Laguna, and learned from her quest that even if unsuccessful in changing the past, she had grown to realize how much she had been loved. Amusingly, Ellone also possesses Laguna’s Triple Triad card.

While kind-hearted and caring, Ellone also suffered from loneliness, due to a result of having to go into hiding on the White SeeD ship, though she still felt gratitude towards the White SeeDs for taking care of her. This loneliness and isolation only furthered her resolve to reunite her ‘family’ one day, so it comes as to no surprise that when the opportunity came, Ellone jumped aboard an Estharian airship in search of Laguna, later reuniting with him after so many years, and presumably telling him about Raine’s fate as well as the son he never knew he had. Even towards the end of the game, Ellone remains hopeful, and no doubtedly is still determined to pick the pieces back up from where they were left, and to live as a family with Laguna and Squall.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Ellone's biggest strength lies in her kind-hearted nature, retaining a bright outlook on life despite the hardships she's faced as a child. She's warm and friendly, and cares very much about those she loves, especially her Uncle Laguna which is what drove her to try changing the past. Despite Laguna never returning to Winhill, she still believes in him, and never lost hope at one day reuniting.

On the flipside, Ellone's primary weakness is her loneliness. With Laguna staying behind in Esthar after Adel's defeat, Ellone and the newborn Squall were sent to live in Edea's orphanage after Raine presumably died in childbirth, and later, Ellone was sent to live in hiding on the White SeeD ship for her own safety. Because of her loneliness, Ellone tries to change the past using her powers to send Squall and the others back in time, to change things so that Laguna returned to Winhill and so that Raine never died.

Samples
First Person Sample: [When the video feed switches on, Ellone gives a small wave to the camera, Hive Badge in hand. Behind her, Gothita stares at seemingly nothing, but Ellone has grown used to this by now.]

We just defeated Bugsy earlier... that's two badges now. [She smiles.] I'm not sure when we'll head out for Goldenrod just yet- possibly soon... but I feel like staying a little bit longer. In the meantime, I've been helping out at the Pokemon Center part-time; it's always good to have extra funds just in case, don't you think?

[Ellone's been careful enough with her money so far, but you never know when something might come up. She still relatively at the start of her journey; there's still a lot to see.]

At the very least, the weather's been holding up lately. With any luck, it'll continue like this when we finally head out; camping out in the rain can never be any good.
Third Person Sample: Johto is a big change from Esthar and its skyline, Ellone quickly realized. Having spent a good portion of her childhood hiding away on the White SeeD ship, Ellone enjoys being able to freely travel around now, without fear of being captured for someone's ulterior motives, but still, she couldn't help but feel worry and disappointment at her situation. Just when she was getting the chance to settle down and live as a family with Laguna again- maybe with Squall as well- she was pulled here.

Regardless, Ellone knew that she would simply have to adjust for the time being, and get used to things around here. She didn't mind too terribly, to be honest; she was under no threat of danger here, for the most part, and it helped, of course, that the Pokemon seemed relatively harmless, and were cute as well. So, when put into that perspective, it didn't bother Ellone to take care of them at all- in fact, it reminded her of her orphanage days, when she would act as a big sister to the other kids, seeing as she was the oldest. In that sense of speaking, it was almost like a second nature to see her team as a big family, and certainly, Ellone had started to give them nicknames based on those of people she knew back home, such as 'Quisty' and 'Sefie'- nicknames of the other children from the orphanage. They lived up to their names, too- acting much like their namesakes, which amused Ellone to no end.

Today, she sat along the coast in Cianwood City, watching the waves, as she shared a small lunch she had prepared with her team. Ellone wasn't in any hurry to get the badges, so she had taken her time to get here. Earlier, she had also had her picture taken by Cameron, the city's photographer, of her and her party, if only to have a memento of her visit. It was a nice day out, and as Ellone enjoyed the sea breeze, she couldn't help but think that if she was going to be here awhile, at least it was relatively peaceful.

Personality: Ellone is a kind-mannered girl, whom, despite going through a lot of rough spots in her past, retains her innocence, and wishes to bring her ‘family’ back together again. Having lost her real parents when she was only two years old, and then taken in by her next-door neighbor, Raine, Ellone never has seemed to let tragedy bring her down, or at least for very long. Rather, even as a little girl, she’s remained innocent and kind, which later earned her the nickname ‘Sis’ during the short time she later spent living in an orphanage, due to caring for the other children like an older sister. She is cheerful and friendly, though not without a bit of hidden sadness.

The person most important to Ellone is Laguna, whom she sees as both an 'uncle' and a parental figure of sorts. Although she hasn't seen him in years, she continues to hold him in high regards after all this time. As a child especially, Ellone thought of him very fondly, and was the one to encourage him and Raine to get together. It's because of her attachment to her 'uncle' that Ellone wanted to change the past, no matter how impossible it was, to prevent her own kidnapping, due to the events that happened afterward that prevented Laguna from returning home.

A girl with an unusual power, Ellone has spent a good portion of her life on the run or hiding from those that wish to use it, for well over ten years. Because of this, she's actually fairly lonely, despite her kind-hearted nature; as Laguna puts it when the two finally catch up with each other, Ellone might have said that she was happy all those years, but living in hiding for well over a decade must have been lonely. This also contributes to her wanting to change the past. She feels guilt that Laguna left to rescue her, back when she was kidnapped as a child, since it caused him to never return home, so he not only never knew that Raine was pregnant, but never knew he had a son as well.

Ellone equally feels guilty and helpless about involving Squall in her plans, though also can't help but rely on him to do what she can't. As her powers only work if she knows the person whom she's sending someone's consciousness into the mind of, Ellone especially feels helpless when Squall begs her to attempt to use her powers to help Rinoa, someone she's not familiar with. At the same time, Ellone knows that Squall and the others from the orphanage are the only ones she can depend on, as they're the people she knows the best.

While Ellone desperately wants to try to change the past, she eventually realizes that it really is impossible to do so. Instead of remaining disappointed, though, Ellone comes to realize how loved she was back then, and becomes determined to make the most of the present, as she can't change the past. As Ellone's goal is to ultimately regain her family, she sets out to reunite with Laguna, and to tell him everything that's happened in the years he's been gone, which causes her to escape to Esthar in search of him the first chance she gets. By the end of the game, Ellone manages to find Laguna, and reunite with him, telling him everything; subsequently, she manages to reunite with Squall as well, who now remembers who she is, though has no idea of his parentage.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Ellone is a very kind-hearted young woman, retaining a bright outlook on life despite the hardships she's faced as a child. She is also a big sis-type of figure, who helped to look after the other kids in the orphanage she was sent to after Raine's death. Ellone loves her Uncle Laguna very dearly, and holds a lot of faith in him even after all of these years; he's saved her when she was kidnapped as a child, and he and Raine were the closest thing to parents she had after the deaths of her real parents. She also holds a lot of hope about at least trying to change the past, which is why she does what she does, despite how improbable it is.

Ellone, however is also very lonely, having grown up in seclusion all these years. It could be said that she's also somewhat selfish, to an extent, despite her kind-hearted nature, as she tries to change the past for personal reasons, though she's also very apologetic about having gotten Squall involved, especially when she realizes she can't change things. Ellone is also somewhat insecure in that respect, and also when it comes to the limitations of her powers, and tends to feel helpless when she can't do anything. Because of the limitations of what she can do, Ellone is also dependent on others to act for her, when she tries to change the events of the past, as she can't directly change it herself, due to her power involving sending someone else's consciousness from the present to the past into the mind of someone else she knew back then- as she tells Squall right before she leaves during one of their meetings, "You're my only hope."
