Personality:
Tokiya is a very talented person, but the path of stardom is not always so simple, and he definitely makes it even more complicated.
Tokiya has made his debut before, not as himself, but as a character named, HAYATO. There is a stark difference from HAYATO’s and Tokiya’s personality that it’s hard to believe they are one and the same. HAYATO is energetic, cheerful and who sings with a lot of heart. Tokiya on the other hand is aloof, cold and he lacks the heart in his songs. Although, they act as separate people, you can see how they are truly connected. Both of their desires are to sing, and yet it is the other entity that hinders them from their ultimate goal. HAYATO has already has a career, but it is not in the direction that Tokiya wishes to go. And HAYATO’s once moving music loses feeling due to Tokiya’s own inner struggles.
Tokiya’s inner turmoil is due to not wanting to be HAYATO anymore. After his debut, Tokiya was hospitalized after an accident. He lost his aim, and found it once more by singing with young children in the hospital. Tokiya found he wanted to sing, but no longer as HAYATO, but himself. It is when Tokiya decides to take charge of his own future by attending Saotome Academy, that HAYATO slowly dies and Tokiya comes into his own.
By attending under the guise as HAYATO’s twin brother, it gives Tokiya enough breathing room to be his own person. And psychologically making it seem like he’s competing with a person, rather than a persona he created. He strives to beat his “brother” by singing better songs. Making sure he has the mechanics perfected. However, though the pitch and flow of his songs are good…his songs lack heart. This is because he lacks something, that emotion that would make him better than HAYATO.
Because Tokiya was posing as Hayato’s twin brother, he keeps people at a distance. Not wanting them to learn the truth of his double life. So he comes off as harsh, especially if he believes people want to use him to get closer to HAYATO. Which infuriates him even more, since HAYATO is who he’s competing against. Tokiya is also going through a lot of personal conflicts, so he unconsciously takes out his frustrations on others further isolating himself from his peers. Even with his roommate Otoya, he is very closemouthed. Not speaking much of his personal life, or refusing to give him straight answers.
Despite his anguish, he is a hard worker. He pushes himself to produce the best work, perfecting his singing so that the rhythm and pitch is perfect. He juggles a dual life as both an idol and a student. Often Tokiya does jobs for HAYATO during his off hours in school, only to come back late at night to Saotome Academy to attend class in the morning. Even when he is demoted from S class, he works even harder to prove himself. It’s a step back, but he focused on his goal. Even if it is hard for him to beat HAYATO, Tokiya doesn’t give up.
Even if he is aloof, there are people who have been able to influence him. Tokiya admires Otoya because he doesn’t have any pretenses of who he is. Otoya has a similar personality to HAYATO, but that’s Otoya’s genuine personality. It makes Tokiya strive to reach the point where he doesn’t have to pretend to be anyone else. Otoya seems to be the only person who knows how to make Tokiya react! The redhead is able to make him feel unnerved or bothered. Most people aren’t able to break Tokiya’s steady facial expressions.
It was because of Haruka’s resolve to hear Tokiya sing and make music for him, that Tokiya began to believe in himself. Haruka recognizes Tokiya as HAYATO right way. Though he is harsh to her because at the time, Tokiya is frustrated with HAYATO, she remains a constant presence. He doesn’t warm up to her, or try to befriend her. And Haruka didn’t push the issue, keeping her distance and slowly charming Tokiya with how involved she was in other’s lives. Her impact was one that initially started through observation. Tokiya didn’t want to pay her any mind, but her actions spoke louder than words. In the same way, her music spoke to him and truly transformed his idea of Haruka. When he is confronted by the rest of STARISH upon finding out he was HAYATO all the long, he replies that he had hope now that he could sing as Tokiya. Haruka was able to reveal this to him by heartfully wanting Tokiya to reach his dreams. This is why she has a special place in his heart and he wants to make efforts to be kinder to her.
Later in the series, we see a softer side of Tokiya. Now that he has hope in attaining his goal, he becomes remorseful for lying to the members of STARISH of his career. Thanks to Haruka’s influence, he finds himself not wanting to let the group down. He feels that these are people he will never meet again and the chemistry they have as a group is something he won’t find elsewhere. He is humble when he asks to be a part of STARISH, and he feels they are kindred spirits since they each want to sing Haruka’s songs and they all love her
music.Despite his agency not supporting his music career, he isn’t spiteful when the chairman falls ill. He helps him despite how the other was yelling at him moments before. Taking him to the hospital and not Tokiya doesn’t leave his side until he was feeling better. He willingly goes along with the jobs they give him despite not having the heart to do it. He feels obligated to keep his appointments. Not only because it is his agency, but as a professional he understands that it is his job. Tokiya is a perfectionist and he will not leave a job undone.
Upon finding his resolve, and realizing he can overcome HAYATO, Tokiya becomes a better person. He has allowed people to enter his world, and he lets himself to feel emotion. He doesn’t feel oppressed by his alter-ego, because he is free to be himself and do what he’s always wanted, to sing.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Tokiya is perfectionist, and he makes sure he succeeds in any task that is asked of him. Whether it is singing or acting, he always places his best foot forward and accepts any task. Despite already reaching success, he doesn’t allow it to go to his head, he is humble. Knowing high expectations are expected of him and Tokiya is prepared to deliver them.
Tokiya is also thankful for being able to have a second chance at a debut and also to perform as himself. Tokiya knows how to multitask, juggling HAYATO’s career and his school life at the same time. He was able to do both things effectively without his agency realizing, showing he’s effective in keeping a low profile. He’s careful not to mix the two worlds, and knows how to keep both aspects in his life, separate.
Tokiya is especially devoted to his singing, since it seems to be the only thing he wants to do, and not being able to sing with heart, crushes him. He’s especially devoted to Haruka since he doesn’t stray from her. He wants to sing the songs that only she makes, and he willingly sacrifices working with her solo to be a part of STARISH. He even stands by her when Saotome tests her resolve, refusing to be a part of the group without her.
However, Tokiya can push himself too hard, where he ignores his limitations. He forces himself to juggle two lives, being an idol and a student, and not giving himself a break. In one way it can be perceived that Tokiya has no backbone with his agency, but rather it is unwillingness not to let anyone down. There is a major indecision about whether he should be Tokiya or HAYATO mainly he doesn’t want to disappoint his agency or his fans. He feels obligated to do things, and sometimes he spreads himself too thin.
The manifestation of Hayato reveals Tokiya’s insecurity. He doesn’t feel he can obtain his dream alone. He compares himself to others, and even to his own character he created. He doesn’t feel that he’s good enough so that’s why he makes sure his techniques are perfect to make up for anything that he possibly lacks.
He suppresses himself emotionally, by inhibiting his singing ability, but also closing his heart off to others. Tokiya is not a very expressive person; he’s not one to confide in others unless he really trusts them. No one knew about his struggle except himself, and that created distance between his peers and also in Hayato’s ability to perform.

Samples
First Person Sample:
[The video opens up. It is dark, and the surroundings are wooded. The only light is from the flickering flames of a campfire. Tokiya is sitting by the fire with Shinx in his lap. He seems relaxed, his eyes watching the flames dance. Shinx in his lap ears are perked up, and his dark eyes watching the trees and bushes. He was a pretty territorial pokémon so he was guarding the area.
Then suddenly Tokiya begins to sing softly. The will to sing to just came to him, and he couldn’t deny it. Often at Saotome Academy, he would find a private spot to sing his heart out. The song is mellow and soothing; it easily lures Shinx to sleep, despite the young Pokémon trying to fight it.
Not only does it put Shinx to sleep, but it also brings out a few nocturnal pokémon as well. A hoothoot flies closer, perching itself onto a tree. The blue haired idol notices a few pairs of eyes peering at him through the darkness of the forest. It would have been a little unnerving to him if he just arrived, but he’s been camping out in the terrain for a while. And he’s become used to the presence of Pokémon.
What Tokiya isn’t accustomed to, is the nasty habit of his device recording him. He seems a bit displeased, but Tokiya keeps his cool.]
…So pokémon like music, too? [His hand reaches for a pokeball, but he doesn’t use it on the hoothoot. He merely looks at the ball as if considering something.] I can definitely use it as a lure tactic.
[Tokiya drops pokeball, and finding that the song has come to an end, the owl-like Pokémon flies off. The feed ends at that.]

Pokémon? Being a trainer?
It all made his head spin. One moment he was settling down from the excitement with his debut with STARISH, and the next he found himself being pushed out of the door of an unfamiliar residence. Only for things to become more confusing as Tokiya went along. He was surrounded by ordinary looking homes, quaint and cozy. Unlike the bustling metropolis of Tokyo, Tokiya was used to.
“Tokiya? Aren’t you going to Professor Elm’s?” A by-passer said. Tokiya’s blue eyes widen, wondering how a complete stranger knew his name. Let alone the “mother” that pushed him out with nothing but the clothes on his back and a backpack filled with things she must have packed.
But the stranger had said Professor Elm, maybe he was supposed to go to him? Maybe this person could explain his situation. The blue haired Idol went off in search of the professor, only to find himself deeper in the situation. Now he had even more items, and he was more perplexed on his current state of affairs.
He looked to his pokedex, a device that was pushed into his hands. Along with a small creature who would be his companion.
“Shinx!” The lion-like Pokémon said excitedly as he stares up at Tokiya from the ground.
This all had to be a dream. Perhaps that debut gave him nightmares. But this couldn’t be a dream could it? It seemed to be real. That creature seemed real…even if he’s never seen anything like it before. He studied Shinx for a few moments, watching the lion-like creature shift to and fro, beckoning Tokiya to play with it.
“…So I’m supposed to train you?” He wasn’t that good with people, let alone animals. How could he possibly train this creature? He didn’t have a clue of what to do.
“…all I know how to do well is sing.” Tokiya said honestly, and he watched as Shinx looked at him attentively. Like an innocent child who didn’t know any better. “I don’t know how to train you.”
Tokiya moved to walk away. He needed to find a way out of here. As he walks he heard the echo of soft footsteps behind him, the idol slowly turned to see Shinx trailing behind him. The pokémon pounced onto his backpack still determined to play. Shinx’s claws tore open the bag and emptying the contents.
“Shinx!” He scolded the pokémon, going to retrieve his bag and picking the things that were scattered on the ground. He eyed Shinx,“…I’m freeing you. Go on.”
He gestured the pokémon away with his hand but Shinx didn’t budge, adamantly staying by Tokiya’s side. As Tokiya picked up the items, he found the trainer’s starter book. He lifted it up from the pile of stuff and began to examine it closely.
Well there was a book of how to go about this training; Tokiya couldn’t help himself from flipping through a few pages. After all he liked a good read. He then placed it down looking over at Shinx. The lion-like creature was still obediently by him. Looking upon him with such promise, how could he let him down?
Tokiya sighed. “Fine…I’ll train you.”
Maybe if he did this, he could find a way to return home. It was better than standing around doing nothing. He gently offered his hand out to Shinx, allowing the pokémon to sniff him. That was how you dealt with wild animals, right? Even if Shinx seemed pretty used to humans. This probably wasn’t going to help his singing, but there had to be a reason he was brought here. Perhaps in helping this pokémon, he could figure it out.
“You’re in my care….Yuusei.”
