victory_road!Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.
Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

He's very loyal to those who earn it, and it's very hard to get into his inner circle of people he trusts. Mukuro, who was the one to deliver him from a hellhole, has Ken's first loyalty, and is always where a majority of it will lie. Ken's loyalty also extends to the other core members of the Kokuyou gang; Chikusa and Chrome. Though he protests the latter's presence, and did resent her at first for invading the small 'world' of Chikusa, Ken and Mukuro, he's warmed to her, and mostly keeps up the insults/protestations as a habit. His relationship with Chikusa is rocky on the surface, but underneath there's a solid bond that would be hard to break. He's Ken's equal and his partner, though he doesn’t recognise that in so many words – they came from the same place, and survived it together. His friends are very, very valuable to him – without them, life would be miserable.
Despite all he's been through, he's also very much a teenage boy in how he acts and reacts. He's got pride he tries not to let get bruised, and shows off in front of his friends. He puts up a tough act, not wanting to look 'soft', even in a safe space. He has some trust issues still; the only people he's really comfortable with are 'his' people, and is grouchy and defensive around others, with a greater emphasis on 'loud teenage boy' as a defensive mechanism.
Ken is loud and forthright; if he's unhappy, you'll know all about it. He's quick to anger, and will use volume and insults as opposed to thinking about his words. Despite this, he's not stupid; uneducated, yes, but he knows what it means to keep your mouth closed on a secret. Though he might not be the best at wordplay – or even understanding the more complicated words – it'll be hard to trick information out of him that Mukuro has told him to be quiet on.
Ken has a primal joy when he fights, and enjoys tussling with someone – or beating them into a sticky pulp. He's very much 'predator', not 'prey', and smart in how he sets up his fights, even if he prefers direct confrontation for the final take down. You see it when he's fighting Yamamoto; he lures him into an advantageous locale for him, and makes sure he's tagged with a scent he knows and can pinpoint in the dark area.
He hates washing and will sometimes go for a couple of weeks/a month without going near a bar of soap – which usually leads to Chrome and Chikusa ganging up on him to make him bathe, as he's perfectly happy to stay in the same comfortable layer of filth.
Ken has a mix of instincts that he defaults to over normal-human, adopted from big cats. They're mostly casual behaviours, but also show when he's in a social situation where the 'socially correct' response isn't something he knows well. He marks territory with his claws and scent, has some nudges towards social cat behaviour, like scent marking packmates, and is often seen with his tongue hanging out – a trick cats use to help them smell things better.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ 'Normal' Ken without any channels is a little animal oriented – he likely was even before the experiments, a side effect of his sun flame, which prompted the direction they went. His finger- and toe-nails are like claws in all but the retracting aspect; his teeth are fanged; his sense of smell is keener; his eyesight slightly worse in bright light and better in dim light – basically small changes from 'normal human' towards 'big cat'.
+ He's a survivor; tracking and catching small and medium prey is no trouble to him, and he knows how to conserve warmth at night, start a good fire, etc.
+ He's a brawler in fighting style, and fairly decent at it, though he relies on his Channels for a proper fight.
+ He has a fairly decent grasp on small-picture/single-target tactics; mostly used when he tracks animals, but he also uses them when he's fighting human targets.
= Never went to High School, or had anything like formal education. He's ignorant on a lot of subjects.
= Has had pretty poor diet his whole life. He's suffering a little from malnutrition, and has a half-starved look, though his Sun aspect has helped negate some of the issues with this. He's actually probably the healthiest looking of the Kokuyou gang.
= Scent bombs give him a headache and shut down his nose in defence for a few hours. If it's just a strong smell, he has a hard time smelling anything over them.
= Socially maladjusted; he just doesn't get some things, or see why there's any point to them. (Like baths. Fuck baths.)
= He seriously does not like anything that reminds him of the experiments he went through; IV shunts, cold water spray, being naked and vulnerable, being unable to help people he cares about.

[The gear's clicked on to a very irritated face, and a very, very sharp set of fangs. Which he's baring threateningly at the screen.]
What the fuck is this nonsense about pokémon? Shit's a -game-, not a fucking world. The fuck does this even make sense?
[He's angry, and when he's angry, he doesn't think well. And the people who would usually do his thinking for him, or at least point him at something to destroy, aren't here. He looks to one side, scrubbing at his ear irritably.]
And how the fuck do I turn off the fucking music?
Third Person Sample:
Arms reaching up to the sky, Ken stretched hugely, every muscle straining towards the clouds before he let them loose, flopping into an easy crouch. He let his mouth hang open, tongue lolling out his mouth as he inhaled, tasting the air. Plants, brick and paint, traces of pokemon in the grass. A little bit of blood still hung around his clothing, though not as strong as it had been the other day. Blood, and the bastard's screaming, and running from the Jennies-- Ken shifted a little uncomfortably, shaking his head. Those types of thoughts were too heavy for the early morning. Besides, it'd turned out okay. Mostly. His teeth bared briefly at the thought of the idiot police, wishing there'd been a way to take them out rather than just 'run the fuck away'.
Loping towards a tree, he stretched up, raking his claws down the bark, enjoying the bite into soft wood and the way it gave under his fingers. Dig, pull, shredded bark curling to the floor... mmm. His tree. Uncomfortable thoughts successfully banished by the familiar routine, he stretched one last time, getting rid of the last traces of sleep-stiffness. Bouncing once or twice on the balls of his feet, he leapt off into the tall grass, going for speed rather than quiet. He'd be more stealthy and shit later.
But for now... Ken whooped loud and unrestrained as a pokémon rattled out the tall grass towards him, his hands going to the balls at his belt, full of the joy of life. His Growlithe came out with a deep growl, Intimidating their opponent, and Ken bared his teeth in response with a deep curl of satisfaction in his chest. This was his fight. His fight, where he could tear things apart with his partner, and win, and be fucking -amazing-. He grinned, tongue lolling out to taste the morning air. Today was going to be a good day.
