Re: Henry | Fire Emblem Awakening | Not reserved
Henry is, in general, pretty friendly, happy, and cheerful. He's always got a smile on his face and often doesn't even need to be asked before he offers someone a helping hand. Of course, he's also smiling when he informs someone of the fact that they're about to meet a gruesome, painful death, and he's perfectly capable of murdering those same people he's helped and worked with should he ever have even the slightest reason. But hey, no one's perfect, right?
Henry likes blood, gore, death, and all sorts of things that belong in a horror movie. He enjoys fighting to the point that he'll prolong a war or betray his own country to fight in it. In contrast, he also likes animals. He can talk to them, often makes friends with them, and tends to treat them a bit better than he treats humans. He's also curious, and likes to figure out how things work or learn how to do all sorts of new things. While he's good at amusing himself, he prefers being told to do things, and likes being useful.
A highly unpleasant past filled with neglect and death has left him missing several screws. He's capable of functioning in society, somehow, but he's very, very eccentric. Things that would normally leave people horrified or feeling guilty tend to simply not faze him much. His ways of thinking can be dangerous or even self-destructive, unfortunately for those who get dragged in because he can't be bothered to care about what happens to them. It can be difficult for him to completely understand some more emotional concepts.
In general, Henry is blunt and honest to a fault. He doesn't tell white lies or pretend to be appropriately sympathetic. He also isn't very good at showing much emotion. There's always a smile on his face, and he acts cheerful, childish, and playful. But people who get to know him can begin to see those smiles as "empty" or "fake", as they just don't have a lot of real feeling behind them. Sometimes, it seems like he can't do anything BUT smile. However, it's not that he doesn't have emotions, they're just buried much deeper and can take a lot more to dig up than is normal. This isn't something he really realizes without it being pointed out, however, and is likely to deny it even if it is. He just smiles all the time because he's happy all the time, really!
Towards strangers, Henry is friendly. He'll smile at them, offer to help carry their heavy bags, and ask what's up if they look upset. He might even seem like a nice guy... if they don't bring up certain subjects or talk to him too much. Unfortunately, he doesn't really care if a stranger lives or dies, and won't hesitate to hurt or kill them if he feels it's necessary. Enemies tend to be treated the same way he treats strangers, except he's often actively trying to make them dead. He doesn't usually blatantly dislike people, preferring to just avoid those he doesn't get along with if possible. But if someone does something that really upsets him, he may act violently vengeful towards them.
Towards people he's in a team with, Henry is also friendly. It's a distant sort of friendliness, however, as anyone in this position who actually pays attention may come to notice. If he doesn't actually care about his comrades, he's not above betraying or even killing them. He won't necessarily dislike them, it's just that he won't be very attached to them.
...unless he DOES get attached to them. It's actually not a huge feat to become good friends with this guy, even if not many people do so. He appreciates people who will put up with him, allow him to hang out with them, or give him things to do. If someone invites him to join them for something, he's very likely to accept even if he isn't interested or thinks it's a silly thing to do. If he actually genuinely likes someone, he'll want to hang out with them and try to make them happy. If they feel insecure, he'll want to protect them and try to set their minds at ease. If something happens to a person he cares about, he'll want to avenge them. While he's capable of hurting a loved one if for some reason they ask for it, he would really rather not.
A lot of Henry's good traits involve people he cares about, actually. He'd do pretty much anything for them, from taking them shopping to slaughtering a hundred people on a whim of theirs. Towards his boss, he's much more obedient than most, but if it's someone he adores, he'll likely do literally anything they say. Even if he doesn't fully understand or agree with it, he'll go through with it in the end. He's very caring towards his loved ones, and he's actually capable of acting more mature if he has to take care of someone. Giving him positive relationships with others is generally the quickest way to make him go through character development, though this hasn't really happened much yet at his current canon point.
There aren't many things Henry fears. He's not afraid of death, because of his fascination with it and because he believes that everyone will be reunited in the next world. Being seen as a weirdo isn't going to make him tone down his behavior. But he does dislike pain, and would rather avoid it even though he's (physically and mentally) rather numb to it and often won't even notice he's been hurt unless it's major. One of the few things that makes him genuinely upset is the possibility of losing someone he really cares about. He doesn't want to be left alone again, and he's willing to do anything he can to try and avoid it. If he has to murder everyone else he knows to keep his friend from abandoning him, fine. If he has to die to protect his family, fine.
His only major goal in life is to die a painless death, and he doesn't have any unreasonable expectations for what happens along the way. He tends to take minor (and often even major) misfortune in stride. He simply accepts the fact that the world is cruel and unfair and that bad things happen, and all someone can do is get over it (and maybe optionally make anyone responsible into a bloody corpse, but that's another matter). No use crying over spilled milk, and no point in whining on and on when it won't make a difference. He's mostly just motivated by doing things he enjoys at his current point, not by any particular loyalty to the cause he's technically fighting a war for or anything like that.
Henry doesn't always think things through. Sometimes, he'll need someone to make him stop before he does something really stupid or dangerous, because he hadn't considered all of the consequences (or didn't care enough). He makes mistakes and can say things that turn out to be incorrect. Fortunately, he tends to be more open minded than narrow minded, unless it's a personal subject he's in denial over.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
-He's very, very good at curses. One of the best, really.
-He's curious and willing to try out new things, (sometimes) leading to useful discoveries.
-He's helpful and honest towards people in general, even if they're strangers.
-He can be unquestioningly obedient towards close friends, even if they might want to ask him to do something unreasonable or change something about himself.
-He has a very, very high pain threshold and can handle a lot before he even notices it.
-He's very good with animals, and can even speak with them (or plants, or anything else that's alive).
-He's actually a surprisingly great dad. Chances are, he'll likely be good with any Pokemon in his care.
Weaknesses:
-His morals are pretty lacking.
-He's got a lot of mental issues and scars that probably aren't ever going to go away.
-He can have trouble getting along with people or might possibly even scare them off due to his behavior.
-Honestly, he's just not so great at this whole social interaction thing in general, even if he is capable of functioning in society.
-Since he doesn't always think things through, he can end up getting himself in trouble and even dragging other people in with him.
-He has a very, very high pain threshold... which is also a bad thing because he often won't realize he's been hurt because he's just so numb to it.
-He's afraid of losing things he cares about again, and would go a bit too far to avoid this.
-Has "skinny chicken legs" and other traits that make him not seem terribly threatening at first glance without a flock of crows to help.

First Person Sample:
[The video flickers on abruptly, showing a young man with silver hair. He's already smiling in a friendly way... except it actually takes him a moment before he seems to realize that the thing is running.]
Ooh. Hey, look! Look, I think it's working! [He turns away from the gadget and waves someone over. A fluffy blue bird appears on camera, taking up most of the screen and staring curiously.] See, I told you I'd figure it out eventually.
[The guy gives his companion a pat on the head.]
Hi there, whoever might be listening to this! I'm Henry. Sorry for interrupting your regularly scheduled whatever. You see, I saw someone else using this for questions, and I was wanting to ask... [He pauses for a second.] Actually, I forgot while we were trying to figure out how this thing works! Nyahaha! Oh well. [Shrug.] Nice to mee-
[Unfortunately, he doesn't get to finish that sentence, because a curious poke from that birdie's beak hits the wrong button and ends the video.]
Third Person Sample:
The critters around here were almost as bloodthirsty as him! Only "almost", though. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of actual blood being spilled, even when things got ugly (what a shame, really). Henry watched as members of the local fauna went after each other, and a few had even gone for him. Unfortunately, he was suddenly not so capable of defending himself as he usually was (and beating up cute little animals probably wouldn't be as fun as beating up his fellow man, anyway), so it was a good thing that he had been blessed with a knight in fluffy armor.
The little bird sitting on his head had its puffy white wings folded, making it look like a cloud with a blue feather accent sticking out. Maybe more like a really ridiculous hat, rather than a cloud. That was fine, though, it's not like he ever minded animals climbing all over him. Or cared about how silly he'd look to random passerbys.
Henry seemed relatively unfazed, considering how bizarre the situation was. Sure, he had reacted with a "huh?" and called a few people crazy (not that he's one to talk) already today, but now, he looked perfectly calm. Like some local going for a nice stroll in the middle of this... monster-infested route. Since there hadn't been any solution in sight, he figured he should just go with the flow for now. It's not like he seriously missed a whole lot back home, or had something urgent to attend to. And hey, this place DID seem pretty interesting. Even if being here had the unfortunate effect of making him into a pretty useless human being. What can a mage without magic do? Oh, well. He'd manage somehow. Or not. That was fine too.
The young man reached up and gently picked his companion up off of his head, lowering it down so they could see eye-to-eye.
"You're actually a really tough little murderbeast, aren't you? You're so adorable, I wouldn't have known just from looking at you! I think we might have lots in common. This could be the start of a beautiful friendship, nyaha!" He smiled at it. As usual. "You're not obligated to stick around or anything, but-"
The bird reached one of its fluffy wings over and wiped a bit of dirt off of Henry's cheek.
He laughed, and put it back on his head.
