APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Character
Name: Dick Grayson (“Robin”)
Series: Young Justice (animated series)
Timeline: post-“Home Front”
Canon Resource Links: http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Nightwing
Personality: Dick is a thirteen-year-old kid—who also happens to be a superhero’s sidekick partnersidekick younger associate. He approaches this in two different ways: he is, on the one hand, conscious of the whole life-saving and better-world-making aspect of the deal; his family were the victims of violent crime and he’d rather not see anyone else suffer through that—or if they did, he’d like to get those responsible some nice, restrictive silver bracelets and a charming jail cell.
On the other hand—Robin is a thirteen year old kid. He is capable of realizing that he can hack the Justice League’s computer, beat up all kinds of bad guys, and crack jokes while doing it, and it’s actually pretty cool all on its own. The how and why of becoming Robin still causes him pain, but Robin itself is something to be proud of and enjoy.

And he is proud of it. Robin has a fairly clear idea of exactly how skilled he is, which translates to great confidence—even a smug sort of arrogance at times. He has a tendency to either assume everyone else is on the same page, or else assume that they’ll catch up if they’re not. He’s not very good at explaining himself yet, but he is good at setting and achieving goals, and recognizing which goals he is or is not equal to. He knows he can usually plot a course of action to achieve a mission objective, but he was also able to (after some trial and error—mostly error) recognize that a) the team couldn’t read his mind and b) he lacked the leadership experience it would take to get everyone up to speed, delegate jobs, and generally be responsible for that many people.
Robin’s sense of humor is usually at the forefront of what he’s doing. He is capable of buckling down and getting serious when the situation calls for it, but if it doesn’t? He has no compunctions against making fun of his friends or enemies. He counterpoints most of Wally’s attempts to look cool with sly commentary and outright (and rather conspicuously) points and laughs hysterically when Superboy gets thrown around by their combat trainer. After snarking on his best friend’s earlier beatdown. And excessively enough that Aqualad felt it prudent that he stop.
If you do something amusing, he will tell you. After cracking up, and not without an injection of sarcasm.
Despite that, his affection for his friends is sincere, and he seems to make friends with other superkids fairly easily. He was welcoming to Superboy and Miss Martian, and while his reaction to Artemis was decidedly lowkey, he does defend to her to his best friend in a smooth, similarly lowkey way. He clearly isn’t as close to them as Kid Flash or Aqualad, whom he’s known for years, but he’s capable of working with them, accepts them, and tries to include them. He does like people and he likes to talk, he just tends to have an ‘I’m good and I know it’ vibe in there.
He is also rather thoughtful and observant. He’s a quick-witted, intelligent kid, who likes dissecting words and is apparently good enough at math to be honored at his school. To say nothing of his technological expertise, and the creator mentioned on his website that he has a passing familiarity with several different languages. Give him a reason to learn it, and he will sit down and do it.
At his core, though, he is a hero. He spends his free time either dodging bullets to make the world a better place, or training to make himself better at dodging bullets to make the world a better place. As mentioned, he has himself been touched very close by violent crime, and did not stop his pursuit for justice when the man responsible was caught. He’s been working as Robin for four years, longer than any other sidekick junior hero. Shows no signs of stopping; he’s committed.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Good at sizing up situations and planning things.
- BAD at translating this to a situation where the team can help and not get caught in confusion and/or crossfire.
+ Skilled acrobat/aerialist/gymnast, though this and his hand-to-hand fighting abilities will be scaled back.
- Slight problem with jealousy: he doesn’t lash out at who he’s jealous of, but internalizes it and takes it out in physical activity.
+ Good little soldier who can follow orders!
- …until he hits “rebellious teenager” mode and starts taking matters into his own hands and getting in over his head.
- Is not always the most polite little kid hero, and has a tendency to tease.
+ Still tends to form a friendly, if not enthusiastically so, regard
+ Exceptional all-around general intelligence, including mathematics, technology, linguistics, detective work, etc. He’s smart and skilled, but this is all learned. He isn’t a genius so much as he’s hardworking and determined.
- Part and parcel of being Batman’s protégé, but he’s not exactly trusting. He has no problem withholding his identity from his teammates (going so far as to view it as something of a game).
+ He is capable of overcoming that, however. He has disobeyed Batman before and told Kid Flash his name, but only Kid Flash and only because KF is special like that.

Samples
First Person Sample:

[The gear snaps on after falling out of the bag. Heard in the background is the sound of a Pokeball releasing its occupant, and wings flapping. The Pokemon, a Taillow, nudges the Pokegear towards the edge of—yes, it’s a roof. The bag was tossed up on to the roof of Mom’s house, the gear and Pokeball were jostled by the impact, and they are now both looking over the edge at a boy dressed in a red and black bodysuit, with a yellow and black cape. He’s climbing out of the bedroom window. The Taillow focuses the camera on the “R” logo on the kid’s chest. It looks important!]

Ooookay. Definitely not in Kansas anymore. Kansas would be so good right about now.

[He edges a little further out, seating himself on the windowsill, back towards the outside, and sizing up the roof. He catches sight of the bird holding the camera and grins, the eye lenses of his domino mask widening to reflect slight surprise. He doesn’t realize that it’s recording yet.]
Me not being in Kansas anymore must make you Toto, huh? Or Dinah. Birds holding cameras seem a bit more Wonderland than Oz, but I’m not the expert. So long as you’re not Cheshire, I think we can work with it, though.
[He looks back up at the roof, still grinning. He grips the edge with both hands, and pulls himself up with a grunt, and mutters:]
Since when does this require effort?

2/2 Dick Grayson | Young Justice | not reserved

[Another grunt of exertion, and Robin forces his body upwards into a handstand, trying to balance on the edge of a sloped roof, before turning a quick tumble into a crouch.

It… doesn’t work that way. His legs are wobbling slightly, and when he tries to swing into the tumble, his balance shifts and he topples over with a brief yell of shock.

In the opposite direction.

Off the roof.

Shocked yell out of the way, Robin begins trying to grip something, anything on the wall while the Taillow squawks in distress and drops the camera. The Pokegear rights itself on the ground just in time to see the bird grasp the Boy Wonder’s cape.

It slows his descent, but the weight is too much for a small, level 5 Taillow and the two crash into the ground, Robin groaning as his knees absorb the impact. He gives the bird a pained, but grateful look.]

Well, you have Superman’s color scheme down. We can work on the rescuing thing.

[He flops over, lying on his side. Taillow uses his wings to shade his eyes from the sun, and Robin gently strokes the bird’s breast. Annoyed:]

I cannot believe I just fell off a roof. Nobody saw that, right? I just fell off a roof. Batman would kill me if he knew I actually fell off a roof. I mean, there goes my reputation. Say nothing of the mystique. A roof. Not even a big roof. It’s only two stories—and—

[He notices the Pokegear Taillow dropped. It’s lit up.]
Why is that thing—

[He turns it off quickly.]

Third Person Sample:

Okay, first fact‘s first: his mother is dead. Ergo, this woman who left the backpack on the desk cannot be his mother. His mind runs through possibilities: Joker trick, fear toxin, holographic simulation of some kind? He’s noticing too many details: the bag has a strange circular logo on it, he’s still wearing his mask and she didn’t comment—indicators of the whole thing being someone else’s construct. The food inside looks Japanese (well, except for the trail mix), and Robin frowns, because that’s definitely not something his mind would give him. A sandwich and trail mix, sure, but a—it’s called a bento, if he remembers correctly? Who does he know in Japan who has a grudge against him or Batman?

A good enough grudge that he wakes up in a strange bed with an empty utility belt and no computer in his gloves. If it’s morning in Japan—assuming he is in Japan and he can’t check without his computer unless he asks someone and the ‘mom’ is way too suspect to trust to give helpful details like that--but if it’s morning in Japan, it’s definitely not in Gotham or Bialya—for that matter, which morning is it? Robin can’t know if he’s lost hours or days or even if his memory has been wiped again.

Nah. Can’t be. That thought immediately brings Miss Martian to mind, and she would definitely be wiped from any recent, relevant memories. So he remembers her, and she’s not in range, because he’s thinking really, really loudly
Miss M, now would be a great time to come in…

The eyes behind his mask narrow as he continues looking through the bag. No effective weapons, although the clothesline might be worth something in a pinch, and maybe the soap, if he can get it into someone’s eyes. Nothing looks too dangerous, and Robin would recognize a bomb if he saw it, thank you.
He looks around the room again, and it looks pretty bare. Nothing’s worth taking that isn’t already in the bag. He wishes again for his computer, or even his radio, because if someone else knew where he was, that might be helpful.

Which means, the only thing to do is to get a hold of someone else’s computer.

He glances at the door.

Just preferably? Not hers.
