APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Helpful links!

Personality: Gamzee is a hard character to pin down. He is one of the characters that goes through the most changes during the course of the story, and even as they happen, there's never enough light shed about how exactly they happened, or to even classify him as either villain or hero. However, as outrageous as these changes might be, they don't change the very core of Gamzee's personality, just the ways he expresses it. As evidenced by his trollian tag, Gamzee is a capricious troll and the notion of whim and nonsensical behavior has always been deeply present in his character.

When he was still under the effects of sopor and drugged out of his mind, he lacked the will to lose his chill, appearing almost perpetually lazy and content. During that time, Gamzee's penchant for odd conversations was the limit for his capricious nature, but once he went sober, he seemed to be free of any kind of restraint that held him back before. Without the drug, he gives into emotions all that easily, both positive and negative. This is very dangerous for nearly everyone around him, because Gamzee is a highblood and as such both very strong and very prone to murderous rages. Which everyone learned first hand during the events of the affectionately nicknamed "Murderstuck" arc. Gamzee has no real misgivings about hurting others or killing them if he finds them irritating, claiming it is all part of his greater calling as the last heir of the high subjugglators. He's morbid and cruel and spiteful, and yet oddly enough not a complete monster, despite it all. It's hard to pin down how much of Gamzee's actions are motivated by his own violent nature, how much of it is his personal flavor of religious zeal.

His religion is a crucial part of his personality, as it informs most of his actions. Gamzee belongs to a cult that honors Lord English, the "Angel of Double Death" and the "Demon" that thus far seems to be the final antagonist of the story. While not much is actually known about the cult, its rituals or its tenants, much of it revolves around juggalo culture and murder. Lots and lots of murder. This is what makes it hard to pin down Gamzee's motivations, because it's really hard to say if he's doing things because he feels like it - likely - because it's all part of an ultimate plan to serve Lord English - also extremely likely - or because he's been provoked into it - not as likely as one might think at first. Many of the things Gamzee does seem to come out of left field, and it is very hard to imagine why he'd act that way, even in hindsight. The extent of his knowledge is unknown, but most of his whims are somehow connected to each other. For the sake of his religion, he can be quite helpful and cheerful, and he'll tolerate and even enjoy anything for it. Like getting shot. Repeatedly.

Gamzee is a pretty crafty troll, even if he doesn't often look like it. He's sneaky and underhanded and very much capable of deceit to varying degrees. At the time he'll come to Route, he's spent some time needling Terezi and writing a few fake notes trying to mimic other's quirks to set her on her way to where he wants her. While the attempts might seem poor, Gamzee seems to be aware that Terezi is already more than convinced of Vriska's guilt, so the "mistakes" in the notes seem more like inside jokes. Further along the storyline, he demonstrates his penchant for lying and scheming more clearly, as he's shown to be in cahoots with his dancestor Kurloz. Not to mention the fact everyone seems to be unaware of his affiliation with Lord English, the very enemy his friends are working to defeat. Gamzee's preference for underhanded methods instead of direct confrontations seems to stem from another important part of his personality: unless truly and completely taken by a rage, Gamzee is a coward. He's afraid of Vriska and Jack Noir and makes no secret of this. He avoid direct conflict as much as possible, unless he's full on highblood rage. Later in the story, he seems to hide in ventilation ducts all across the meteor just to avoid Kanaya, whom he has more than a healthy respect for. In canon, once he goes sober, he's never quite the same again, though there are instances of him showing concern about his friends, especially Karkat. So while he arguably still retains his capacity for kindness and good will, the darker side of his personality puts his motives into question.

Because of his upbringing at the hands - or hooves, in this case - of his often absent lusus, Gamzee lacks most basic social conditioning. Not only is he vulgar and inappropriate in pretty much every way conceivable, he's also tactless and very crass. He's very sloppy about his appearance, not really caring about personal hygiene or the state of his clothes. And the only thing he demonstrates some measure of concern for is his clown make-up, but again only because it's part of his religion.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Gamzee's greatest strengths are of course his physical strength - as mentioned by Karkat, when he momentarily snapped during the battle against the Black King, he singlehandedly delivered the most devastating blow - and his own brand of psychic powers, called chucklevoodoos, which act as a form of mind-control and appear to be fear-based. He's prolific with the use of clubs, and his JokerKind spercibus allows him to use any weapon he comes across with ease. He will be keenly feeling their loss in Route. Another notable strength is that he's not dumb. This might seem like a weird thing to note, but the heart of the matter is that Gamzee is anything but dumb, when he puts his mind to it. He just doesn't care, most of the time. It makes people underestimate him, and he then takes advantage of that in anyway he can. He's not very knowledgeable about things, from personal hygiene to science to basic tenants of reality, preferring to explain things through "miracles", but that doesn't mean he's not quick on the uptake and able to use and abuse things once he gets a good grasp on them.

His greatest weaknesses so far is his inability to handle direct conflict and how far he'll go to avoid direct confrontations. He'll lie and get himself tangled further into a mess, rather than be upfront about things. Because he's perpetually caught on his own whims, Gamzee tends to do things without really thinking them through. He doesn't care about most people - arguably anyone, really - and he tends to see others as means to an end, ignoring and disregarding clear signs that he's crossing lines and stepping on toes. He's generally pretty socially inept, all things considered. And of course, he's a slave to his rage. When he gets angry, he gets angry. He doesn't have a lot of self-control to begin with, and his rage just makes everything worse. His impulsiveness is an intrinsic part of his personality, which coupled with his curiosity makes for a very disastrous mix.
