Personality: Cocky, flippant, and (mostly) morally bankrupt, Reno is not the type of guy someone would bring home to their mother. In game and in the compilations, his attire (untucked dress shirt, missing tie, goggles/sunglasses, slightly rumpled suit coat) and posture (slouched) speak about his personality quite well. He has a rebellious streak, as noted by the disregard for his uniform and the flashy style of his hair. Having been a part of the Turks for so long (at least 6 years), he's grown used to the horrors of the world and of the people in it, and is rarely ruffled by such things. However, it's likely he'll have a sarcastic remark on hand, no matter the circumstance.
Underneath the caustic surface, Reno's a very driven and ambitious person, even though it's usually overshadowed by his addictions to the simple pleasures in life. Originally applying for the SOLDIER-program, he was picked up by the Department of Administrative Research, where his skills were more likely to go to use. Since then, he's been dedicated to his work to the point that he could technically be termed a workaholic (he is 2nd in command for a reason, and not just because Veld left Tseng in charge). As such, he takes pride in what he does and will almost always do it right the first time. It's quite possible that because of this, his boss tends to overlook the modifications he's made to the standard-issue suit. Because he's working most of the time, he has developed a pretty good rapport with his fellow Turks and has become intensely loyal to them. Mess with them and it's implied he's being messed with as well-- as Don Corneo learned the hard way.
When he isn't dripping sarcasm or blowing things up as per orders, Reno has a very laid-back and darkly humorous attitude, taking things into stride and working with what he has. Considering he quickly puts aside his differences to work with Cloud and co. in AC, he doesn't really have the personality to hold a grudge, either. In a bizarre way, he's rather charming and flirtatious, if one looked past the borderline alcoholism and well, his unsavory job.
Strengths/Weaknesses: His most easily recognized strength is that he's incredibly fast. Not inhumanly so, but he does have an uncanny reaction time. He learns quickly and is able to put newly learned skills to use almost immediately. A sort of workaholic-type personality, he takes his job seriously and can be depended on to do it right. Moreover, he's bizarrely loyal to people he connects with, and will do most anything to keep that trust/loyalty. He's been trained in standard Turk-style, encompassing proficiency in hand-to-hand combat, firearms, explosives, and at least moderate knowledge in computer hacking, torture, survival, and lying.
On the flip side, he has flexible moral compass that most people would consider to be on the evil side of things. The drop of the Sector 7 plate shows his cruel side, or at the very least, his complete apathy. Seemingly, he has no qualms about kidnapping, murdering, or thieving (at least, not after Before Crisis). Those lines in the sand for him are constantly shifting, though considering Rufus has him helping clean up Midgar in post-AC, he's a bit more on the side of rainbows and puppies in this aspect. He's relatively secretive, which can make it difficult to really get to know him. Lastly, he has an addictive personality, and can usually be found either drinking, smoking, whoring, or maybe all three at once.

[muffled tapping sounds, the feed shows the edge of red hair and mostly a ceiling] …Yo, is this thing on?
Seriously, Boss-man, if this is revenge for swapping your coffee for decaf, 'm sorry, jeeze. [Brief pause and a quiet snort, screen still displaying the less interesting parts of a room, this time the upper corner.] Though really, I dunno if this place is even on the map.
I swear, Tseng, if ya sent me t'the Gold Saucer without a cent to m'name… that's not even cool, man. [A hand covers the camera as it's moved, accompanied by soft scratching noises as the device brushes against fabric.]
Whoa! This thing comes programmed with a radio? [Now the speaker is finally in view, expression one of fascinated disbelief as keys are pressed loudly.] Why can't PHS' have cool shit like this?
[The camera is pointed up again, but more at an angle so the redhead's face is still in view. There's a restless shuffling sound in the background.] …Bet Reeve has a hand in this. Just waitin' for that annoying robot cat of his t'show up.
Then again, if that stupid thing shows up, I won't get in as much trouble for shaking it in irritation. Maybe.
Beginning t'think there are higher beings involved in this plot. Rufus, I thought ya were above this, yo. [Grumbling.] Some people, really.
Alright, new theory. Hojo's come back t'wreak havoc and has somehow trapped everyone in a sugary world as a form of torture. If I didn't loathe his existence so much, I'd almost be willing t'commend him.
Third Person Sample:
This place was fuckin' weird.
Alright, maybe that was an understatement, but he didn't really have enough gumption to think about other descriptors at a time like this. For one, he'd woken up in a strange room, fully clothed, and without any indicators that he'd somehow scored at some point. The last thing he remembered was telling Rufus to shove it because the blonde had settled back into being frustrating beyond reasoning. Having been cured of his Geostigma, he was basically back to how he'd been before, just on the side of rainbows and sunshine. Just thinking about it gave him a headache.
Then again, said headache had been slowly building over the course of a few hours. It had leveled out at the point of slightly past just-annoying-enough, but not enough for him to want to sleep it off. There was also the fact that he was in a strange place; he was going to be sleeping very nervously until he got used to it. At the very least, in all of the whirlwind of confusion, irritation, and resignation, he'd managed to acquire a companion of sorts.
According to the PHS-shaped device that had a sweet radio and some other bizarre features, said animal was labeled as a Shinx, a type of "pokemon" that had a serious nature. Whatever the hell that meant. Glancing down at the blue-furred animal, he half-smiled, reminded of that wise dog-thing Cloud had traveled with, Red XIII. Part of him wanted to name it that, just because it was ironic and bizarrely funny. But, instead, he'd settled on Shinxra. It was a terrible pun, and he was sure Tseng was rolling his eyes somewhere.
Though, more importantly, it was a play on Shinra-- having an adorable blue furry creature at his disposal that shared Rufus' last name was intensely amusing.

PENDING
Re: PENDING
As the mission goes on, there's more of his cockiness, recklessness, and displeasure with what he finds to be "boring" parts of the job. Some of the carelessness shows another side to him, however, when he's chasing down a possible perpetrator into an elevator shaft as the elevator descends. He shows his tenacity to continually pursue a target and to think very clearly when he's in pretty serious danger, especially when the elevator starts ascending and he'll die if he can't get the hatch open on the lift. During this scene, he really relies on his physical speed and his mental speed, knowing he'll be able to clear any obstacles with it. Moreover, he places all of his trust in his teammates, Veld and Tseng, to get him the elevator hatch codes in time. He's trusts them with his life and doesn't doubt them for a second.
In other missions later on in BC, his more amusing, joking side is shown, especially when he's on the job with Rude. This is demonstrated in one particular episode, when he, Rude, and Tseng are going off to locate Veld, they end up in a trashyard/junkyard, which sets Reno off on spouting some puns with Rude about intruders being taken out with the trash. He clearly likes to enjoy himself while working, probably because he puts in enough hours, may as well have a laugh every now and again.
When the original game starts, though, some of the qualities he had in BC have changed to be more subtle or nonexistent. Many of his teammates in BC are (supposedly) dead, which is most likely a huge factor in him mellowing out. Also, during the Nibelheim incident with Sephiroth massacring the town, Reno and his teammates are ordered to take the town's survivors into the Shinra Manor, which would be placing them, essentially, into Hojo's unsavory hands. Up until this point, Reno hadn't really questioned what had been asked of him, but this was a dirtier job than he'd been expecting-- ultimately, Veld covers for his Turks so they don't have to do it. Continuing his job despite these more questionable things coming up has sobered him up, and in FFVII, he's less reckless and enthusiastic as he had once been, instead seeming more jaded, cruel, and nonchalant. He's grown used to the shady things he's asked to do, and is rarely ruffled by them. The biggest example of this change is seen when he drops the plate on Sector 7, not even blinking as he does, and even seeming to bitterly mock the whole situation. Also, the few times he encounters Cloud and Co., this sort of bizarre apathy can be seen, since he never seems to really put all of himself into trying to apprehend the group (in game, the last fight with the Turks is completely optional, as Reno himself says he's "not up for" fighting).
In general, Reno seems to be sticking with Shinra not for the company, but more for his team. He's still loyal to them and only to them, since the rest haven't earned it. This kind of loyalty to his team and apathy towards Cloud's mission is really demonstrated when Elena and Yuffie are captured by Don Corneo in Wutai. The only reason he fights Don there is because he wants to save his teammate and he takes pride in upholding the reputation of the Turks. He doesn't even bother to try and capture Cloud and his team, despite the company having given him orders to-- he waves it off, saying he's not working since it's his day off.
Reno's character goes through some really rough changes from BC to FFVII, especially since he's forced to do some morally questionable things in the original game (it is mentioned, though, in BC, that he and the Turks help to evacuate certain sectors of people during Meteorfall during FFVII). However, in Advent Children, some of his original brightness, enthusiasm, and relatively good personality can be seen coming back. He still bears no ill-will towards Cloud, fighting him half-heartedly in Healen Lodge, and even helping him and Tifa out later in Aeris' church, bringing the two of them to 7th Heaven to recover while they're unconscious. Later, he shows up with Rude to help out Cloud and Co. when Bahamut is in Edge, all snark and confident swagger. He dives into this fight with a recklessness that hearkens back to his BC days, seemingly back to his normal self again (just with a bit more experience under his belt). Lastly, he attempts to take care of Yazoo and Loz with Rude, by way of explosives, to help out until Cloud shows up.
Overall, he's not a completely bad guy, and in AC, even shows a pretty good side in helping out Cloud to overcome the Silver Haired Trio + Geostigma. His aid could be seen as somewhat selfish, as Rufus is afflicted with the stigma, and by that point in the FFVII compilation, the blonde had been accepted as an honorary Turk (and kind of their Boss), which Reno honors with his loyalty. He does have a darker, more jaded side to him, though, which is clearly demonstrated in the original game. The situations in AC dictate that he and the Turks don't need to be as morally questionable/cruel, and therefore, he's a bit more like how he was in BC.
