APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Roxy Lalonde | Homestuck. | Reserved. 2/3

[personal profile] voidedrogue 2012-11-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Roxy is being a very caring person, but that caring does not quite extend to how she presents herself to others. She has never been very tactful, lacking a filter. She says what she thinks. She does know when to shut up, but that's mostly from having to keep secrets and less from not wanting to tease her friends-- because she does do plenty of the latter. Both in calling them things such as chumps and in actual flirting, though the flirting never gets her anywhere. But she does it anyway, because if she didn't all she would be is a drunk kid who likes wizards and cats too much.

Roxy has led a lonely life (though not on purpose), and it has left her at least a little bitter. It doesn't help that her best friend Jane refused to believe her on major things in Roxy's life-- even about Roxy's mother being dead. And deep down-- not very far deep down, even-- one of the things Roxy wants most is to have a mother. More than that, she wants to not be alone. It's why she took so long in sending her stolen cat Frigglish home to his rightful owner. Being alone sucks, especially for a naturally friendly and outgoing girl like Roxy.

It also doesn't help that all her friends have crushes on each other, leaving her to flirt roleplay with her friend's auto-responder sunglasses because everyone else is "off-limits". This dash of bitterness doesn't keep her from helping her friends in their romantic pursuits, however, as Roxy is a loyal friend first and foremost and wants her friends to be happy. Which is tough, considering two of her friends have a crush on the same other friend.

Roxy always has good intentions, but she does have a habit of making less-than-sound decisions in the name of her good intentions (such as blowing up her friend's computer to prove that an evil corporation is after her-- though, to be fair, Roxy did realize her mistake after Jane did agree to believe Roxy's "conspiracy" theories, and did feel terrible about it). She never sets out to intentionally hurt anyone, she just tends to make big mistakes. That she is terrible at cleaning up, as well, sometimes.

She doesn't always screw things up, though, and is a very caring friend. Growing up in a slum-like neighborhood of aliens, them having taken care of her when she was too young to take care of herself, she has become close with them at least, even if it isn't quite the same as what having people of her own species around. Now, she takes care of them when she can, too-- stealing food out of the past to feed them and the like. And while her friends can't necessarily 100% count on her for, uh, a lot, she does generally try to do her best and wants to help them out.

While Roxy may be a bad decision making flirt, she is also a very intelligent girl. She's played around with enough science-y toys to have some scientific knowledge, and a good enough understanding of computers to use a file to blow one up from afar-- while intoxicated, no less. Given that she has never had a day of school in her life, the fact that she can read and write-- or do anything, for that matter-- speaks to her intelligence more than anything else. She also is a lady of SCIENCE, as well as someone who knows what the red flag on a mailbox is for, despite coming from a place where there likely is no mail. Admittedly, most of her intelligence is lost since she tends to be regularly intoxicated, rarely capitalizes her words, and makes frequent misspellings. But that's less from being stupid and more from not giving a fuck.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS;
• Tech-savvy; Roxy is used to playing with high-tech gadgets and considers herself a lady of SCIENCE.

• Fantastic at falling down, as most drunk people are. It is a skill, really.

• Great at making zero sense-- not necessarily on purpose, just as a benefit of being a void player / having a tendency to say things that make jack shit bit of sense to whoever she's talking to. She knows what she means, but sometimes others don't. This could be seen as being mysterious, but it's mostly just Roxy sounding ridiculous.

• Being a rogue ("one who steals"), Roxy is good at stealing things. Most of what she's stolen has been by way of a gizmo that lets her steal things (only certain things, though), but she'd likely be at least somewhat adept at giving herself a five-finger discount in other situations. Or she'd completely bumble it all together, who can say.
WEAKNESSES;
• Often intoxicated; Roxy has been heavily drinking alcohol since an early age (this is blamed on a perceived passive aggressive dare by her mother). In Route 29, may cause less of a problem since alcohol likely isn't as freely available as it was in Roxy's house.

• Terrible spelling; partially due to regular drunkenness, partially due to not entirely caring that much. She can't spell guinea pig even on a good day.

• Either has an issue with a) kissing girls, b) kissing dead people, c) kissing Jane Crocker in specific, or d) some combination of the three, because she couldn't bring herself to do so when her friend needed her most.

• -- and thusly, half-way terrible friend-skills. Roxy has great intentions but her attempts to "help" her friends result in screw-ups about 80% of the time. (See: blew up friend's computer; told Jake about Jane's feelings to prompt Jake into asking Jane about them; crushed her mother's cat with a book when proving something to Jane; and that was just within one day).

Third Person Sample:
Roxy awoke to the sound of an alarm clock. She owned an alarm clock, she was pretty sure, but she rarely (if ever) used it. Absently, she smacked at it from her bed until it went silent. She buried her head under her pillow, and then realized something very important.

This wasn't her bed.

She pulled her head out from under the pillow and blinked blearily at "her" room, which definitely wasn't hers. She threw off the unfamiliar blankets and fell out of bed. Mussy-headed and somewhat hungover she stumbled downstairs to meet her "mom", who greeted her cheerfully. Roxy stared at the strange woman for a whole minute before a backpack was shoved into her arms and she was shoved out the door without another word.

Roxy stood at the door for a few minutes, hand to her head as she tried to pull herself together. There was music, she could hear music, and it was giving her a headache. Who played music this early in the morning? Was it even morning? These questions and more buzzed through her mind as she stumbled from her doorway, holding her backpack clumsily. Something in her pocket was bleeping, and she bumbled her way through the next ten minutes before plopping herself on the ground with a hungover groan.

She understood by then where she was: pokemon land. Or whatever it was called, Roxy couldn't quite remember names. Her new pokemon feline friend sat down beside her, cleaning it's paws. Roxy dumped everything out of her backpack, examining all of her loot. When she was sure that nothing in it explained how she was suddenly in pokemon land, she shoved everything back in and turned to the pokegear. She knew she couldn't be the only one who didn't belong (literally-- she saw people milling about looking as confused as she felt, but she had just sat down and wasn't about to run up and speak to one; besides, typing was Roxy's natural language).

That done, she pocketed the pokegear and looked to her new friend. "Do you have a name?" The little creature gave a purring noise that Roxy took as a no. "What about... Frigglish 2.0?" It (or she, Roxy hazard a guess) gave Roxy a look that Roxy took as hell no. "Okay, yeah, not very Frigglish-y. We'll think of something later." With that, Roxy laid down on the ground, using her backpack as a pillow. She wouldn't really sleep, she just wanted to wait until a) explanations and b) her head stopped pounding. Until then, she was sure that a good lie-down would do fine. Of course, Roxy being Roxy, she was asleep within a minute.
