APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Abalon Demar
Gil Mudflap, Abalon's brother
As you can see, there isn't a ton of information about Abalon. He's a minor boss character in a relatively unknown game. If this information isn't enough, I can certainly provide more!

Personality: Were you looking for the most self-centered, stuck-up guy in the Space Police? No? Well you've got him now. Abalon Demar is known on Puffon (the Wind Planet and home of the Space Police Headquarters) for being one of the coldest Space Police officers. His personality can easily be summed up by saying that he's very narcisisstic. He truthfully adores himself more than anyone else - including his "brother" Gil Mudflap (whether or not they're actually related is never stated). Abalon follows the orders he is given by the Space Police, but his loyalty ultimately belongs to himself. His position in the Space Police is only a job, after all. It's a job he clearly has fun with though, as he proves when he annihilates the natives of the Holy Water Pyramid when he tries to obtain the Water Millennium Gummy.

Abalon can be quite the charmer when the need arises. How else would he have gotten so high through the ranks? He quite literally uses abilities to charm the party in-game, so it's likely he utilized these skills to gain his current ranking. He might have gained his rank through dishonesty, but Abalon is a skilled fighter. He's often assumed to be weak due to his effeminate appearance, but he certainly isn't. He will use this to his advantage though; you underestimate him, you get stabbed in the face. He is very good at stabbing people in the face. He destroyed everyone in the Holy Water Pyramid on his own; the Space Police were stationed outside. Abalon fights the party on his own as well, unlike his brother who has two Space Police officers with him. Abalon's fighting skills aren't limited just to charming and stabbing people with swords, however; he's also a skilled magician. The majority of the characters in Magical Starsign use magic, and Abalon is no exception; he's a Water-aligned character and uses ice magic that he fires from his hair. His charming abilities are also based in magic, though it helps that he's very pretty.

When it comes to people, Abalon places them in two categories: important and useless. Those in the former category will be buttered-up and charmed indefinitely, or at least until Abalon has gotten what he wants from them. Those in the latter category will be ignored and possibly tormented if Abalon has nothing better to do with his spare time. It's very rare that anyone actually makes it into the important category without Abalon needing to use them in some way. He's not very fond of relying on others - though like all the Space Police Officers, he'll send his subordinates to do his dirty work for him. He does know his limits and he acknowledges them - Abalon decides to release Magnus Muzzleflash from prison because he believes Magnus will be useful when it comes to obtaining the Millennium Gummies. He can't do it himself, so he'll rely on others, but that's only if he really can't accomplish something on his own. He fights the party by himself because he's certain he can defeat them. While he does acknowledge his own limits, he horribly underestimates almost everyone, which ends with him getting beaten up by a group of children.

Abalon is ruthless; he pursues his goals with carefully calculated plans that prove he really is worthy of his position in the Space Police. He attacks the Holy Water Pyramid with a group of Space Police troops and a spacecraft that has a barrier, meaning that no one can interfere while he wipes out the temple's inhabitants and takes the Water Millennium Gummy. Of course, the party manages to get in there and defeat Abalon before he can leave with the Gummy, but he gets very close to actually accomplishing his goal there. He has no issues killing an entire race of people just to get at the Gummy, and he has no issues letting an entire planet die all to ensure that the party won't be able to follow Master Kale to Nova (which is why they're collecting the Millennium Gummies). Abalon's final appearance on Gren makes that plain enough; he didn't set the fire that was destroying the forested planet, but he wasn't using his water magic to put out the fires either.

So we have a cold, ruthless Space Police officer who charms his opponents and underestimates them, all while planning things out and destroying others to ensure the party won't be able to obtain the Millennium Gummies. It's overkill, yes, but Abalon doesn't have any issues with that. The ends justify the means, after all.

Strengths/Weaknesses: ✔ Abalon is both a skilled swordsman and a magician. While he doesn't actually use a sword in the boss battle, Abalon is shown wielding a sword quickly enough to terrify his brother, Mudflap. His magic centers mostly around charming others, but he's capable of shooting ice from his hair. Yes, his hair is magical too.
✔ He's very charming and he knows how to read people quite well. If he wants something from someone, he'll be an amazing friend and companion, doing everything he can to help. The second he has what he wants, he'll lose all interest, however.
✔ He's also very charismatic and he's a born leader. Abalon bosses around all the other Space Police officers (with the exception of Brie, though they're never shown interacting). He's left in charge while the head of the Space Police, Fowler, is out. His charisma has helped him rise through the ranks quickly and is part of what keeps him near the top. The other part is his ability to command and fight, of course.
✔ When it comes to planning, Abalon really can't be beat. Once he's given an assignment, he'll ruthlessly pursue it. He had a barrier created around a spacecraft to ensure that no one would interfere when he was attacking the Holy Water Pyramid to retrieve the Water Millennium Gummy. His plan would have worked too, if it weren't for those meddling kids.
✘ Abalon is from a world that relies on magic. He's not used to doing anything without magic, including maintaining his stupidly long hair. That's going to be a challenge.
✘ Pride is one of Abalon's biggest issues - he's aware of just how beautiful he is and he enjoys the power that comes with using his good looks to his advantage. He knows he's a skilled fighter and one of the toughest members of the Space Police. He tends to underestimate everyone else because he is so skilled.
✘ Appearances mean more to Abalon than anything else. He couldn't care less about his own brother because he's... well, he's kind of a giant Muk, to be perfectly honest. Abalon still calls him "brother," but it's obvious that he doesn't care.
✘ To be honest, Abalon doesn't care about anyone but himself. He spends the majority of the time he's on screen talking about himself and what he's capable of. He tends to take everything as a personal insult even when it's not meant to be.
✘ He has no issues wiping out an entire race of people to get at the Water Millennium Gummy. "The ends justify the means" and all that. So yeah, he's a bit crazy.
✘ He comes from a series that involves Pirate Otters in Space. It's kind of hard to take him seriously.

Pokémon Information
Affiliation: Team Rocket
Starter: Clamperl ♂ - Though Clamperl isn't allowed for a Team Rocket starter, I believe it would be the best fit for Abalon. Not only is it an accurate representation of what Abalon wears, but Clamperl's evolutions are perfect matches for Abalon as well. Gorebyss is an effeminate-looking Pokémon that is skilled in Special Attack, while Huntail appears more threatening and balances Attack and Defense. Either evolution would be suitable for Abalon, but I plan to go with Gorebyss.

Samples
First Person Sample: Gil! Get back here this instant, you slimy little--!

[Is it really any surprise to see Abalon shrieking at the escaping Grimer? It shouldn't be. This has become a routine for them.]

I swear, one of these days, Gil...!

[And look, Abalon's even finished putting on his makeup today! The red eyeliner's a little thick, but obviously he was in a hurry to rush out the door and capture his escaping Grimer!]

You're a pathetic, worthless waste of space, you horrific little slimeball! I'll return you to the wild if this keeps up!

[Abalon stops shaking his fist at the retreating Grimer to turn toward the Gear. His expression is openly horrified once he realizes that he's being filmed.]

Wha--? Ugh! Turn that thing off! How dare you! This is not funny!

[From the giggling behind the camera, it seems his Pokémon disagree.]

Third Person Sample: Abalon Demar had made one terrible mistake when he wandered out toward Cherrygrove to explore. He had fought all the trainers along the route, mostly due to boredom, and he had waved them off as soon as he was done beating their Pokémon up. He must have said something to one of them that caught their interest, however, because there was this one trainer who would not stop calling him.

"It's like my Rattata is in the top percentage of Rattata! Know what I'm saying?"

Abalon's right eye twitched violently. He loosened his grip on the Gear so as not to crush it in his hand and smiled and nodded pleasantly. "Yes, of course, I understand." I'm going to throttle you the next time I see you, brat.

The boy continued on about how he had nearly caught a Pidgey, but it escaped at the last minute, and Abalon considered taking the time to go all the way back to that Route so he could teach the boy a lesson in manners (not that they were something Abalon cared about for the most part, but still). He was sick and tired of listening to this kid prattle on about his damn rat.

"Listen, Joey, or whatever your name is. Stop calling me. I don't care about your Rattata. I don't care about your adventures trying to catch a Pidgey. I. Don't. Care."

The boy looked more confused than anything else and Abalon sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "You're a pathetic little trainer who hasn't improved in the three weeks I've known you. You haven't managed to catch anything, and yet you feel the need to inform me of your "progress" every day without fail. As much as I appreciate the effort - that is, I don't appreciate it at all - do stop calling me. It will keep me from finding an excuse to go all the way out there and strangle you. Because really, at this point that seems to be the best option."

Youngster Joey stared for another minute before happily repeating that his Rattata was in the top percentage of Rattata! He then ended the feed.

"I'm going to kill him. I swear, I am going to kill him."
