We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. Do not ask her to name any popular artists, clothing trends, labels, TV shows, actors, or actresses. She won't be able to and she'll probably look quite silly and serious while trying anyway. When it comes to safety Tohru is not oblivious to the various dangers in the world but her tendency to be easily swayed (and as such also deceived) sometimes gets her into bad situations. If it weren't for having her friends on the lookout for her goodness only knows where she'd be by now.

She has absolutely no stomach for horror movies and ghost stories at all, also, but even when frightened, Tohru is determined to at least try to keep a cool head and be brave. Even though it's also a weakness of hers Tohru will put on a brave front in the face of rejection, desiring little more than to avoid being or becoming someone's burden. This strength also includes her determination to give any challenge everything she has.

Tohru's biggest fears are losing someone she loves (including her mother-- the memory of her) and becoming a burden, rejected or disliked by someone that she loves, especially if she loses them to illness. I would also say that she's terrified by the idea of leaving things unsaid after what happened with her mother, this accounts for her tendency to be so overwhelmingly sincere and honest. She’s perfectly capable of loving a great many people, but one of the hardest lessons that she had to learn was that when it comes to the type of life-changing love that she has for Kyo there isn’t room for hesitation or sharing.

She eventually comes to grips with her feelings, with the fact that she loves Kyo more than anyone else. She understands that in order to live her life she has to accept the truth, that there is someone that she cherishes more than the memory of her mother and it’s too late to stop it and nothing she can do to change it (also that she no longer wants to). Learning the truth about her mother’s death is the first time that Tohru disagrees with anything her mother has said. Her response to Kyo’s claim that Kyoko refused to forgive him for letting her die is met with near outright defiance; it’s a declaration that if that’s how it is then she “has to be against her”. When she thinks she’s been rejected by him, because she wants to see Kyo happy, and because she doesn’t want him or anyone else to feel burdened by her she attempts to hide her hurt and bury her feelings behind a smile (She would even go so far as to practice smiling for when she saw him again but everyone around her could tell.). Her biggest concern remains not making trouble for him, not having him dislike her or think she’s delusional.

After things have been resolved properly she seems to mellow out a great deal. When asked about her dating status she doesn’t spazz as she would have in the past, but quietly blushes and lets Kyo do the talking. She’s visibly happier and has really found real inner peace through her choices, at least with Kyo. She’ll still be the loveable spazz, at least from time to time, but she’s matured with age and experience by this time.

ust a note, but Tohru will be 18 years old on her return to Johto.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Overall Tohru's skills are in domestic areas and emotional matters.

Skills: This is more of a comedic note rather than something to be taken seriously, but as it has been addressed at least ONCE in canon in a serious situation I figured I'd put it here. Among Tohru's skills there is one that's usually played upon as a comedic relief. She seems to have excellent stamina considering how much energy she burns in a day between chores and general attitude. This is not to mention how energetic she gets when she starts to spazz.

+ Cooking & cleaning - Just like it sounds Tohru is very good with cooking meals and cleaning chores. Most of her time is spent doing these things so she's gotten very fast and very efficient at them. She usually is well prepared when given proper notice and tends to be neat and organized.

+ Genuine charisma - This is more Tohru's tendency to ease her way into most people's good graces simply by being herself. Obviously people who find Tohru's personality type to be annoying aren't going to qualify for this, but in addition to being easy to please and get along with Tohru can be persistent and patient if the situation seems to warrant it. She can seemingly win over even the most unlikely of friends with her sincerity.

+ Strong heart - Even when frightened Tohru is determined to at least try to keep a cool head and be brave. Even though it's also a weakness of hers Tohru will put on a brave front in the face of rejection, desiring little more than to avoid being or becoming someone's burden. This strength also includes her determination to give any challenge everything she has.

+/- Open and honest – She wears her heart on her sleeve no matter who you are. The only time she’ll ever try to lie is to avoid worrying others. Needless to say this can lead to her getting take advantage of.

- Clutzy - Tohru is sometimes prone to moments of clumsy slip up's, not often, but enough to be noted.

- Sort of a pacifist - Tohru cannot fight to save her life. She's tried once (poor Kyo |D) and she seems to suck at it. She tries to find a way around confrontation at all costs, though there are instances when she can warm up to the idea as normal, such as in the case of Yuki's and Kyo's rivalry.

- Athletically challenged - Even though she is prone to short bursts of stamina this is mainly from a comedic stand point. Tohru is generally mediocre at best when it comes to sports, but usually she's just flat out terrible at them. It's not that she's unmotivated so much as lacks the physical strength, agility, and hand-eye coordination to play basketball, baseball, or soccer; even endurance tests are a challenge that she has to pace herself mindfully for. It's also been noted that Tohru has no real upper body strength, can't throw very well, punch very hard, or probably much of anything else that requires strong arms unless you're talking about carrying laundry or books.

- Kill them with kindness - This has, and still can get Tohru into trouble from time to time. She’d give you the shirt off of her back, and her shoes, annnnd maybe her skirt too, and her hair ribbons, and… well, you get the idea. Her friends and sometimes the kindness of strangers are her main saving grace as they’ll usually stop her from going too far.

- Kyoko - This is the surest way to wound Tohru the worst. She can handle being talked poorly about or disliked, but her memory of her mother is practically sacred. Talking ill of Kyoko is enough to ransack Tohru emotionally, and in the right (or wrong) situation it can lead to an emotional break down. She also struggles with the idea of remaining faithful to her mother and her promise of keeping Kyoko as her "most important person". This would be more noticeable as her relationships with others grow.

K-Kyo-kun, Shishou, Kisa-san, Isuzu-san, Ritchan-san? Is anyone still here? Takatori-san, Envy-san…?

[ She remembers.

She doesn’t look all that sure right at the moment, in fact she looks downright worried. ]

I’m not sure how it happened, and I don’t remember leaving or know how long I was gone, but I’m back. Only I can’t find Chika-chan anywhere. Has anyone seen him, or the others? I’m very sorry if I worried anyone!

[ HEY. DON’T FORGET ABOUT ME HERE. A Girafarig pushes her head into view then, tugging lightly at the dress Tohru is wearing. ALKSDFJASFD OH RIGHT. I should introduce you, shouldn’t I? ] Oh! Right, um, everyone, this is Umeboshi. [ . . . ]

[ Not hard to guess where the name came from when you see her bulbous pink nose. ]

I guess she’s here to help me, now that I’m back! Huh, girl? [ Tohru smiles gently and rubs her neck. ] If anyone that I know is still here I’d really love to hear from you again! Goodbye for now! [ And end feed! ]

Third Person Sample:

It was unnerving, waking up in a strange bed, in a room she didn’t recognize, in a house that wasn’t Shigure’s. There was even the brief wash of panic before she realized something.

She’d been here before.

She pushed the covers to the side and swung her legs out of bed, ignoring the mild ache of her injuries. They were only bothering her a little, but that’s what she got for running like crazy immediately upon being released from the hospital after all. Thankfully it hadn’t been more serious.

That room, though, the music…! Was she dreaming? Was she really back in Johto?

Everything that had been happening back home was a fresh blur, almost like a dream itself. The last thing she remembered doing was hugging Akito. She’d been with Kyo, Kazuma, Rin, and Hatsuharu. The last thing she remembered from Johto was… being in Goldenrod, at the hotel. She’d finally made it back from Olivine city with Machi a while before, some people had returned home, she’d sold some eggs, it was early fall. How long had she been gone? When she looked out the window there was SNOW falling outside.

Annnnnnnd insert panic mode! The next moment Tohru was out of bed and had her hands pressed against cold glass, fretting frantically.   It wasn't back home so much that she worried about, she knew by now that they wouldn't miss her presence, time would freeze there, thankfully.

But what about HERE? What about in Johto? She'd left everyone behind! THIS WAS TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE NEWS!

“W-W-What? Have I really been gone that long?! The others must be worried, o-or what if they aren’t here anymore?! What’ll I do?! Chika-chan?” HER STARTER, HER POKEMON, WHO HAD TAKEN CARE OF THEM WHILE SHE WAS GONE?! A quick survey of the room didn’t spot her familiar bag or even a new one, no Pokeballs or Pokemon either. Injuries forgotten, Tohru turned to race down the stairs to find her bag, calling out hurriedly. “Chika-chan, are you here?!”

… This was going to be a fun transition.
