- Bikes, Skateboards, Skates
Bicycles cut travel time down in half and can traverse on most surfaces. Not meant for muddy or overly rocky terrain. Skateboards and rollerskates cut travel time in half on paved roads and smooth surfaces; bear in mind that neither will fare well outside of smooth ground.

- helicopters
Used primarily for rescue missions by Officer Jennies. They're also a perk for Team Rocket members upon request or as needed by mission.

- Traveling off the map?
The forest gets thicker as you go deeper in, and the terrain often gets more mountainous/hilly, so the going would get much slower. Using a pokemon to knock down trees would probably score a spiky fine for deforestation. There's also the strong possibility of getting lost, getting attacked by swarms of wild pokemon, and running out of supplies.

- Making your own boat
In terms of cutting down trees to make a boat, one can use a pokémon in terms of knocking it down. Creating tools is alright in terms of hammers and whittling devices (though they'll most likely be less sharp than normal), and practice sparring tools (those made of plastic and wood, like wooden swords) are also alright.

General Notes

The 18+ Stuff: Are vices like cigars, alcohol, and adult magazines purchasable in any stores?
All of them are available. Cigars and adult materials can be purchased in novelty shops on the edge of town, some not too far from the bars. They all are marked with small signs and have very nondescript exterior designs. Alcohol can be purchased at bars.

Bars: Alcohol is fairly accessible! It's not available for purchase in the marts, but most cities have bars where one can buy alcohol to take home.
Here's the count:
Johto - Azalea (1 - it sucks), Blackthorn (1), Cianwood (1 - in a beach resort), Ecruteak (1 - with a theatre), Goldenrod (3), Olivine (2 - ritzy), Mahogany (1 - very nice), Violet (1).
Kanto - Celadon (3 - a small one and the 'party' bar), Cerulean (2 - one pub, one winery), Cinnabar (1 - in a beach resort), Fuchsia (1 - very small), Pewter (1 - small), Saffron (2 - seems almost abandoned), Vermilion (3), Viridian (2).

Specific Locations

Embedded Tower: The Embedded Tower may or may not exist. Its existence is a bit of a legend, some word of mouth and complete speculation. Most people are sure there is a tower, but where it is or who built it are nothing but a mystery.

Ecruteak City: Being the old-fashioned city, and seeming quite Japanese, Ecruteak contains the Kimono Dance Theatre (which offer lessons to trainers and visitors every Tuesday evenings at 6 PM), the Bell Tower, along with the legendary Burned Tower. Outside of the touristy spots and old-fashioned jibber jabbers, one can also visit an outdoor hot springs resort and spa towards the north of the city.

Fuchsia City: Fuchsia contains Pokewood Studios, home of So You Think You Can Dance: Kanto Edition and many other variety television shows and movies.

Pallet Town: Please see: The Tale of The Music Man.
