Character Name: Sasha Braus Series: Attack on Titan Timeline: Chapter 36; After being reunited with her father. Canon Resource Links:Sasha's Wiki!
Personality:
"Lightning fast, with uncanny intuition. But her eccentricity makes her unfit for group operations."
Upon first appearances, Sasha appears to be anything but a soldier. When approached by her superior officer, Sasha is already eating a steamed potato with no other reason other than because she wanted to eat it while it was still hot, also stating that she had stolen it from the kitchen without putting much thought into it. Without that reasoning - despite being reluctant - and the officer's reaction, Sasha thought of the idea of giving him half of the potato as if to apologize for her unprofessional actions.
And what was the response to this kind gesture? Having Sasha run to near death.
While it may seem minimal, it shows that Sasha is a character who is determined to be part of the army. She takes her consequences without complaints, despite the fact that being told that she had to skip lunch devastated her. She continued to run until she was told directly to stop, and once she had fallen to the ground in her efforts to return to her barracks, her thoughts were consumed with the many things she wanted to eat before dying.
To put simply, Sasha appears to be a comical character who placed herself into a serious situation without much thought and whose main concern is what she's going to be eating tonight. Now, let us repeat this, she appears to be a comical character.
In truth, despite her actions, Sasha takes defending the rest of humanity from Titans seriously. In fact, she is completely afraid of Titans to a point that it causes her to freeze in panic once she is cornered by one, having her tear up. However, when she is put into the position of either joining the Military Police or Scouting Legion, with the latter being the one having the most contact with Titans, Sasha had decided to join the Scouting Legion despite her intense fear. With that decision, despite her crying, it's proven that Sasha is incredibly brave, pushing her fears to the side in order to obtain her goal of defending the pride of her village.
"Sasha... yer a bit of a coward, y'know? To leave this forest and face all those strangers... 'tis difficult for ya, ain't it?"
However, if there's one thing that Sasha is even more afraid of, it's the world outside of her village.
Sasha understands the cruelty of this world, but is rather selfish in terms of food. When she still lived in her village, Dauper, it was common for her to be scolded by her father for stealing food rations. In truth, she despised the people who came and claimed their land and began hunting despite that being the village's main source of food supply. When her father spoke of them giving up on hunting, she immediately protested, stating that giving up on hunting was like giving up on what made them a clan.
And despite the tragedies that she has faced, Sasha still remains a rather cheerful and friendly individual. She speaks to others formally, and is overly polite towards them in order to hide her home dialect. She is also incredibly grateful towards anyone who expresses kindness towards her, but is also taken advantage of because of this, an example being when Ymir has Sasha do all of her chores after she had carried her back to bed.
It should also be noted that when approached by Ymir as to why she speaks so politely, ignoring her home dialect, Sasha immediately freezes up. As her father stated, Sasha is a coward when it comes down to having to face people outside of her village, which is why she changes her way of speech in order to fit in properly with her squad members.
But, despite being insecure of her background, Sasha's main reason for fighting is to protect her village.
When Titans had breached through Wall Maria, Sasha's first objective was to check her village in hopes that the people had already retreated. Once she had found a Titan eating away at a mother's legs while her child stay frozen in fear, Sasha grabbed a hatchet and began hacking away. However, despite her attempt, the Titan's regeneration process only caused the wound to heal. This is also where we see more of Sasha's bravery despite her fear of Titans. Once the Titan had finished eating the mother, it immediately began chasing Sasha and the child. With only a bow and arrow, and no real weapon to actually kill the Titan, Sasha's hunting experience comes to play and she lands two arrows into the Titan's eyes to leave it blind before running away.
To put in simple terms, Sasha is a soldier whose true strengths are exposed through situations where she is left to her own decisions. An example of this is when a fellow soldier fell off of Wall Rose, and using her 3D Maneuver Gear to pierce through his leg in order to save him from falling to his death. While her strategy seemed dangerous, Sasha was the first of her squad to make a decision during the sudden change of events.
As a soldier, Sasha is one to take action first and think later. As a hunter, she has clearly learned how to injure an enemy for the benefit of the team. As a person, she is a bit insecure with her background, and does not wish to be classified as a 'country hick' by others. Instead, she wishes to show that her village is more than a southern village who only hunts, but also defends the rest of humanity from their greatest enemy.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS ○ Sasha was a born hunter, so she is familiar with animal behavior and how to survive in the wild. ○ An amazing amount of stamina! When she was told to run near death, she ran from basically morning to night. ○ One of the top ten graduates (Ranked 9th). ○ She's a quick thinker in situations where she and her comrades lives depend on it. From launching the hook of her 3D gear into a fellow soldiers leg in order to save him, to using nothing more than a bow and arrow to fight against a Titan. ○ ... And of course she has an appetite that could outmatch three kings.
WEAKNESSES ○ She does become cowardly at times when cornered. ○ She often blames herself for a number of things, even if it is not her fault. ○ Also very insecure of her background, mainly towards her accent and not wanting to portray her village as a bunch of country hicks who can only hunt. ○ Sasha's love for food often gets her in trouble. Especially when she pulls it out for no other reason than that it tastes better hot. ○ She... does, however, have sticky fingers, which was proven when she took some meat from the barracks.

She's certain that she did not die.
The last thing that Sasha could properly remember was escaping on horseback with the villagers of Dauper, after she fought bravely against the Titan that chased after both herself and the child she protected. While she threw away any fear she had towards the Titans in her efforts to keep both herself and the child alive, the fear of being somewhere new began to settle in. The world outside her tiny village was already life changing for her all in its own, but now being in entirely different world... ?
Did she fall from her horse? Was there a possibility that someone had knocked her on the head and brought her here as some kind of joke?
Those thoughts disappeared into the back of her mind when she felt the pokedex comes to life. She flinches, a hand racing into her pocket and basically throwing the device onto the ground in fear. Once Sasha realizes that the device is no where near harmful, she reaches out and picks up the technology off of the ground.
At the same time, she realizes the tiny bear standing beside her — staring at her, "Ah, um..." She stares back at the creature, her voice shaking out an awkward laugh, "A-Are you a bear... ? You're not hungry, are you? P-Please... don't eat me..."
This was just a dream, right?
She reaches out, brushing her hand and patting the head of the Teddiursa. This is when it all finally settles in, her heart falling in her chest as she finally slumped to the ground. Hand still placed on the tiny bear's head, her eyes widen in the process as the reality of being in a completely different world crashed down on her.
