Personality: Once upon a time Xehanort was simply a young, ambitious, and overly-curious young man who dreamed of greater things. This hasn't really changed much in principle, but the goals and end designs have been warped beyond what was once simple and harmless. While still curious, it's almost to a fault as his curiosity drives him beyond most reasonable expectations and into the amoral. He's driven by a need to know and to understand, and he's more than willing to put those theories to the test regardless of the outcome for those involved - as evidenced by his carefree attitude while discussing his desire to restart the Keyblade War in order to see what would happen to the universe with Eraqus. Where knowledge presents itself, he will want to possess it, especially if it may assist in furthering his plans.
Xehanort is ruthlessly cunning and considered by Yen Sid to be an outstanding strategist. By and large, outside of the general goal of merging with Kingdom Hearts and gaining the ultimate knowledge he desires, it's almost impossible to know just what he has planned until it's too late. He is a master at hiding his intentions and feigning emotions in order to get the responses he desires and direct people to where they need to be and what they need to do - he was even able to lie directly to Eraqus about repenting of his actions while begging the younger master to take care of Ventus for him without his dishonesty being detected (in the Birth By Sleep novels). This cleverness lends itself well to quick thinking, which is ultimately necessary in order to come up with alternatives and backups to his plans just in case things fall through or something goes awry... as it more often than not will. This is one of his true strengths, as even when it seems as though he may have been routed, in reality it may simply just be playing into another plan entirely! His creativity in this regard is unmatched, as his methods may be considered to be unorthodox in quite a few regards.
Similarly, when it comes to his ultimate goal, no one or nothing is sacred. Whether friend or foe or anything in between, all are simply pawns to him and ultimately their existence means nothing more than how useful they are. He has no problem with destroying those he has close ties to (such as his pupil-brother Eraqus who he eventually slays in cold blood), or manipulating those who care about each other into opposition (such as Terra, who is manipulated into fighting with Eraqus in order to distract and weaken him so that Xehanort can deliver the final blow). By and large, while he is able to present himself as sympathetic and kind it's safe to assume that there is an un-altruistic intent behind such sentiment. There is one exception to this, which is a brief moment of true kindness shown to Ventus: Xehanort is compelled to take him to his own childhood home of the Destiny Islands so that the young man can spend his dying moments somewhere peaceful and pleasant. Ultimately, Xehanort is willing to put everything on the line, even himself, if it means succeeding... and for the most part every time he's done so, he's come out on top.
It's safe to say that Xehanort is selfish, but he's beyond recognizing that. Over his years he's learned a great deal of forbidden knowledge, and coupled with his own beliefs derived from his learning and experiences there is no other conclusion he could have arrived at. Everything he has done and is planning to do is for the betterment of all the worlds, for improving a situation that he feels is ultimately wrong and needs to be corrected. It doesn't matter so much what happens now, as in the end when he's gotten what he desires he will simply remake the universe anew and in proper balance in accordance with how he believes it should be. Even so, he isn't arrogant about such things, and shows as startling degree of humility, even going so far as to admit that he's been routed more than once when confronted by Riku and Mickey in KH3D. Such losses do not seem to deter him at all, as even with the seeming setbacks he's still more than willing to continue onward toward his goals, down one of the other paths he's already worked out.
Xehanort is prone to speaking in an educated manner, including having an extensive vocabulary that he uses with ease. He has a flair for the dramatic, whether through gestures or speech, and often couches things in excessively bombastic terms. He becomes even more animated and emphatic when speaking about darkness, making his passion for that particular topic evident. He's quite capable of using his words in order to manipulate situations or deflect arguments, twisting things around where necessary in order to come out on top.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Xehanort's biggest strength is his mind. He has a keen intellect, decades of experiences and knowledge, and a sharp wit. He's a brilliant strategist and has the uncanny ability to plan ahead for any sort of situation. His will and determination are also strong, and even a loss is not enough of a detriment to curb his ambitions. Essentially, once he sets his mind to something, there is very little that can stop him from seeing it through. He also seems to possess a good degree of physical strength and dexterity, beyond what one would expect from someone of his age. This can most likely be attributed to being a keybearer, as he seems to fight with minimal effort when things move to physical confrontation. Xehanort is excellent at speaking and able to use his words to maximum effect, and while he may not be able to use magic in the setting he still has a strong background in the mystical and arcane.
The most obvious weakness is that he's an old man. This is something he acknowledges himself, and his attempt to take a younger body in order to further his plans is indicative of the problem that this poses. His body will obviously suffer from malady as time goes on, and without the availability of magic or darkness to stave off symptoms or heal or other solutions, such a decline poses even more of a threat than it would have before. Travelling may very well be harder, he can't take as much physical stress as he might have previously. Even being in good physical condition due to being a keybearer, at some point his body will wear out. It's inevitable. The lack of magic means that he will have to come up with alternatives to several of his plans as well, and that some things just aren't quite possible anymore.
Pokémon Information Affiliation: For the time being, he'll be a trainer. The oldest trainer ever. Does he get a world record for this? Starter: Eevee. Xehanort is a master tactician who not only plans in advance but creates alternative routes and backups for those routes. Even when it looks like he's failed, often it's just part of the plan anyway because he's accounted for it. Thus, it makes sense that the pokemon he would start with would have as many alternatives and possibilities in evolution as possible... though unlike a plan, once it evolves there's no other options or going back. Samples First Person Sample: [The elderly man that appears in the feed seems to be relaxing in the woods somewhere, along one of the routes most likely. There's a book on his lap, being nosed at by a curious eevee, that he shoos away with one hand.]
Greetings to those listening. As one could no doubt surmise I am new, and in need of some assistance, though I do not believe it is of the sort that most would expect.
[He smiles genially, one hand reaching up to gesture broadly as he speaks.]
In any location, even a quaint world such as this, there are numerous legends and tales. Mythology littered through histories, the works of seeming gods through the lens of humanity. There is little doubt that such creatures as these pokemon filled that niche ages ago, and thus their legendry is assuredly rich and vast!
[At that last sentence his other hand has risen up to join the first in a grand sweeping gesture, his tone rising in excitement. He really seems to be getting into this. The eevee takes advantage of this moment to gnaw on the book.]
So this, I entreat from those who would share. The stories that you've heard, the legends that you know... or if nothing else, locations where one can learn such things.
[Spent, his hands return to his lap, one resting on the book, the other gently pushing the eevee off of his lap.]
Any such things would be greatly appreciated. My thanks for your time.
Third Person Sample: The music was everywhere. It was here too. It had looped, seemingly infinitely, all the while he'd spoken with the simple people of the village. No matter whether he'd been inside or out, it was always there in the back of his mind, disturbing the peace of his thoughts. For a moment it had gone silent, as he'd left the town, and he'd thought that perhaps it was over, but no, it had merely changed to something else instead. Instead of the softer, homey sound, now it was a much grander sort of theme. Something to set out to, something to make one's first step - and thus mark on the world - with.
Commutablis had dashed out ahead of him, and was prancing around merrily. He'd let her out of her container - pokeball - when he'd decided to leave the town in the hope that whatever animal senses she possessed would be of use during travel. While normally such a trip would have been a simple affair, there was nary a lick of neither magic nor darkness to be found in this place. For the first time in longer than he could remember, he was at the complete mercy of his own condition. None of his usual methods or abilities were at his call... instead, this companion creature was to be relied upon. An amusing thought, but not one misplaced... even the insignificant could house hidden potential. Ventus had been the same way, and that simple, ordinary boy... though his potential came from outside through the hearts he'd kindled.
That was one thing that he was certain hadn't changed, even with the loss of everything else. All living beings, even these pokemon, still possessed hearts... it may take different routes, but in the end those manipulations could still be possible. Another route indeed... just like the one at his feet. Starting over again, coming up with new strategies, a new plan...
A single step, and then another, as he began to walk forward to catch up to Commutablis. No, this sort of setback was hardly one to deter him at all. He would just find other means to come to his goal. Every world was a part of the grand whole, and thus in each world was a path to Kingdom Hearts. It was simply a matter of unlocking the way forward... a new legend in the making. If this creature could provide the assistance he needed, then so be it... an ally should never be eschewed due to its form.
Now, if only something could be done about that music...
