Character Name: Nagisa Motomiya Series: AKB0048 Timeline: Next Stage episode 10, Screaming Paradise, before Nagisa sneaks onto the Zodiac ship Canon Resource Links:http://akb0048.wikia.com - general series wiki.
Personality: At first glance, Nagisa comes off as being too sweet for this world. She’s a little too lost in thought, sometimes awkward, sometimes quiet and a little reserved, but she always seems to come off with a smile in the end. She says she's a little embarrassed about being onstage in front of people at first, but once it's time for the curtain to rise? She has a smile and she's ready to go.
When interacting with people she doesn’t know, at an event or even a casual meeting, Nagisa is often a little shy, at first. It takes her some time, and even the occasional pep talk from her friends, to come out of her shell, but she honestly likes people. She’s earnest and friendly, and she appreciates every interaction with people. Nagisa tries to meet everyone with a smile, even if she’s a bit nervous, and when she performs for people, she’s determined to give them her best. Why? She says it herself: she wants to see them and she wants to see them smile. She was inspired by 0048 when things looked dark, and she wants to spread that inspiration.
Around her friends and the other members of 0048, Nagisa is very friendly. She encourages her friends to do their best, no matter what the situation, and she wants them to do well. When they need protecting, she’s the first to stick up for them, even if she feels bad if they ever have to stick up for her. She doesn’t like feeling like her friends are rivals in any way, despite any competitions set up within 0048. She knows that there are rankings and there is a hierarchy, but she thinks that with enough hard work, everyone should have a chance to be in the spotlight. It’s called a naive point of view by a lot of her friends, though.
One major flaw that Nagisa has is that she puts pleasing others over what she herself wants to do. It's shown early on in the series, when she almost doesn't go to the second stage of the AKB0048 auditions even though she passed the first stage. When she thinks she's upset both of her parents too much, she finds herself completely unable to sing - nothing physical is wrong with her, but she can't do it psychologically. She always snaps out of it and makes the 'right' decision in the end - going to the audition, singing in the concert - but it can take some time and some pressure for her to do it.
Nagisa gets called wishy-washy sometimes, or told that she isn’t taking things seriously enough. This always upsets her, because it happens when she thinks she’s trying, but it actually serves to motivate her. She never seems to see it at the time, but every time she’s told she isn’t taking something seriously or she isn’t trying hard enough, it pushes her to the next level. She shines the brightest when she’s been under some pressure and come out successfully.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Nagisa's biggest strengths are her positive attitude, her resiliency, her caring heart, and her determination. Nothing really gets her down forever; she's always able to find a reason to smile and to be happy. She really does care about her friends; as much as she relies on them, she reaches out to them when they are sad and makes sure they are okay. Nagisa's determination is something that develops over the series, but once she gets set on an idea, she sees it through no matter what.
Nagisa's biggest weaknesses are her wishy-washiness, her tendency to get anxious sometimes, and her occasional lack of self-confidence. She doesn't mean to act wishy-washy, but it happens, and she doesn't like it. The anxiety isn't all the time, and she can overcome it, but it sometimes takes a big push for her to do so. And occasionally she compares herself to her friends and finds herself lacking, but she can generally snap out of it. She's a young teenager, and she's still finding her voice, as it were.

Samples First Person Sample: Good evening, everyone! This is Nagisa Motomiya. I hope that you're all doing well!
[Or better than she is, anyway. She looks a little shaken up; it's night time and something looks to have spooked her.]
Uh, I had a question, and I hope it doesn't sound too silly or anything. I just left Cherrygrove City, and I'm on Route 30. Is it normal for bats to be in the grass out here, at night? I thought bats lived in caves or dark places. I can understand the bug Pokemon, but the bats...well, they kind of scare me. I know I'm supposed to be catching Pokemon, but I don't like bats at all. Should I just catch it to have it in the Pokedex and let it go somewhere dark? Maybe that would be best, but I don't know.
Third Person Sample: Waking up to music was old hat for Nagisa Motomiya. It went with the territory when you were an idol singer in training, after all; someone was always practicing nearby, or just humming something. But when Nagisa woke up to music this time, it was in a house. And this wasn't familiar music, either. She yawned, stretched, and hopped out of bed, finding the backpack, the - was that a cell phone? It didn't look like any cell phone she was used to, but phones changed all the time. And then there was -
"Dii?"
- pink. Pink, and adorable. Those were the first two things Nagisa registered before getting on her knees and instinctively reaching out to the creature. Her Audino walked up, getting that this was its trainer trying to say hello, and while its arms were short, it tried to give her a hug.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, too, Dii-chan."
"Di! Audi!"
"We'll figure all this stuff out together, right, Dii-chan? It looks like you were here for a reason, and you're friendly. It must mean we're meant to be together."
With that, she let go, motioning for the Pokemon to follow her to a window. Well, the town she was in looked cute, at least, even if unfamiliar, and looking around, she appeared to be one of a few people in the same predicament.
"Okay. No sense staying in here. Time to go, Dii-chan."
