Personality: [going a bit further in canon to explain different sides of her, but mostly staying in her current canon point!]
Korra is the next Avatar after Avatar Aang and as Tenzin sad it, she is his legacy -- but she's as opposite of the airbender as one can be. Mako describes her as "this girl is crazy" and he's quite right about that - Korra is the impatient, extremely hot tempered and arrogant new Avatar, who was born to bring balance to the world... Too bad the girl, who is still in Avatar training, isn't the most balanced person herself.
Korra is friendly, she's glad to meet new people after spending so much time in one place, and she has no problems talking to strangers either. Coming up with something to talk to might be a bit difficult at first, but once she really gets started, she's actually very chatty and loves talking with people. She loves having fun, but her kind of fun is usually something more extreme than makeovers and other girly stuff. She's really bad at all girly stuff, really really bad, but she's all excited about things such as extreme sports (race cars, probending, etc.) Korra likes to have fun, and people call her funny. She's one of the most loyal friends anyone can ever get, because she will always be there for them whenever they need her and she's not one to tell their secrets to anyone else. In fact, she's the one whose secrets get told, but she can live with that - she won't be enraged to anyone for too long for telling that stuff. It happens, she'll explain it somehow if she has to - or rather jumps into another topic entirely to and that's that. It's her duty as the Avatar to help people, but Korra really loves helping people in general. When Bolin is missing, Korra instantly offers her help to Mako and even talks herself into helping the cool guy, who is not so willing to accept her help at first. She helps strangers too whenever they need any kind of help. The girl shows affection easily, hugging is very normal for her and despite all the rude attitude she shows often, she's quite a warm person on the inside. She cares about people, she doesn't want to see anyone get hurt and she can get along with people of all ages if they can handle her as a whole package.
Extremely impatient, she wants things to happen right now and she can't wait at all when she wants - or needs - to do something. When people tell her "No" and give their reasons, she'll act like a good girl on that moment, agreeing to whatever it was -- only to do things her way as soon as no one's looking. She ran away from home to find Tenzin from a city, when Tenzin couldn't stay there to teach her and she ran to the Republic City to watch probending when Tenzin forbid her from going anywhere near it. She's tired of being the overprotected girl, who must sit at the South Pole waiting for people to come there instead of being able to go to places herself. She won't let anyone stop her, even if she must break some rules and people's trust in her. She believes that she'll be fine and they're worrying for nothing. Korra is impulsive, she lets her heart tell her what to do instead of thinking clearly. The Spiritual Side of her Avatar training has never opened up to her, so she's still a wild girl, who can't stay still for too long.
Her fierce temper goes easily from zero to thousand, whenever little things or big things annoy her too much. Whether it's words or actions anyone can usually get a piece of that temper in a very short time of knowing her. She's arrogant of her wonderful powers and very proud of the fact that she's the Avatar. Korra's usual way of solving problems is by fighting and her motto seems to be "Let's do this!" as she repeats it often in more or less serious situations. Usually Korra fights with her powers, those being bending with water in all forms, fire and earth, but sometimes it's just words. She doesn't realize how much damage her powers will do to her surroundings, at least not until it's too late -- a few buildings (or their windows) crashed here and there, road looking more like something for extreme sports etc. She doesn't think ahead, she just does things without thinking and aims to win against her opponents as soon as possible. She destroyed a street in Republic City as soon as she got there and she threw an opponent out of the ring on probending match. Too bad she was supposed to throw them out from the back of the ring and Korra threw him out from the side as soon as the bell rang, so it was a big mistake on her part. She's ready to jump into any situation to kick some bad guy's ass, really, and sometimes her friends manage to stop her by grabbing her arm and talking sense to her in the situation. That's when the talk actually works to her frustration, at least she can be stopped from doing stuff sometimes. Korra is tough she's a fighter and a stubborn person, who is unwilling to back away from things. She's brave, says she's not afraid of anyone and she's willing to fight against anyone and willing to defend anyone who needs protection. She tends to be a reckless hothead, who gets into trouble for not thinking ahead. She really should find out stuff about her enemies first before she rushes to challenge them. Korra can also be quite the sarcastic and smug brat at times, whenever she has the chance for it. Saying offensive comments to people, who annoy her is pretty normal for her. It's also normal whenever she's being all smug about her skills, or proving someone wrong. She doesn't take it lightly when peple underestimate her, she'll prove them wrong as much as she needs to. She can back up her big mouth with her skills. You just got to deal with her - or suffer from her, if you can't handle all that attitude.
For Korra it is extremely difficult to keep her mouth shut even when she should. She talks back when people (with higher authority or without it) say things that she doesn't like. She's not afraid to tell her own opinion and see if she can change their mind with it. If she clearly can't, then she either goes to find a place where she can calm down on her own, or she just seems like she gives up on the topic... But she's still thinking about it inside her own head, thinking that she's right and the other person is wrong, until something proves her wrong or she realizes how wrong she is. Ends up saying stuff that she shouldn't say, because she doesn't know much about the topic. But if she hurts people with her words, she'll apologize. She's not someone to ruin a friend's relationship either, but she just can't keep her mouth shut in front of her love interest anyway -- so she thinks about it for some time, then just bluntly confesses her love for him. As a girl in love who becomes rejected by the guy, Korra tends to be very jealous of the boy whenever his girlfriend is around. She makes disgusted faces when they cuddle or kiss and she's not willing to spend time with the whole group at first, because seeing those two hurts. When she falls for a guy, she wants to do something to impress him and won't take a "Not bad" as a good enough reaction. Korra makes a lot of faces in all situations, her feelings can be clearly read from most of those faces and mostly she's not even trying to hide anything. She also realizes when people around her are jealous and she can be smug about them falling for her. Why? Because said person looks as if he's not impressed by her at all, but looks like he's just good at hiding his feelings for her until she finds out. Lead by her heart, she does kiss him and gets kissed back, she just has to try it when she finds out that he has feelings for her too, but that's that. She won't do anything more about it when the whole situations ends up into them fighting about the kiss anyway. She's not a patient person, no, but she realizes her chances are down in zero with a taken guy. And ruining someone's relationship is just a no, no, despite how naive she can be at times. She's just a normal teenaged girl, who has normal teenage problems... Well, outside of her role as the Avatar that is. She can also be quite a teaser, when she gets a chance. And she probably shouldn't ask love advice from little girls, but she does and then she never asks it from them again.
Korra is a girl without some manners (other than just arguing with people in higher rank, orz), for example she has a short burping contest with Bolin in a restaurant full of people and she tries to eat fishes in a park, which is illegal but she didn't think too much at that time. But she does have some good manners too. Korra knows how to be polite sometimes! She knows when to say thank you, show respect, bow or when to apologize for things she has said or done, and she does them (and actually means them too) in situations where they're needed. She's not stupid or slow with thinking, as some people might be surprised to notice. She's just extremely wild and she likes to have her own freedom to do things and she really loves the action, she was born to do all the action after all... It's difficult for Korra to calm down and be patient, in fact she doesn't do it all at this point. But she's also clever and smart, being able to convince people into her way of thinking, realizing things easily and coming up with plans that actually work - so much that she can save her own life or someone else's life with her ideas. She can explain things with some good logic when she has to, and she can give a good speech when she has to, she's just not very used to giving speeches.
As open / honest as Korra is about most stuff (her crush on a guy, her opinions, her rights, challenges, being needed in a city as the Avatar etc.), there are things that she bottles up inside her. Then she puts a brave front and pretends that everything is just fine, not letting anyone to actually see that she's scared and/or worried. Her fears and insecurities are things like these. When something frightens her, she won't let anyone know about her being scared. She has nightmares, she wakes up from them and while she has supportive people around her, she doesn't want to admit her fears to anyone. Everyone has such great expectations of her, she doesn't want to let them down by telling them that she too is afraid of their worst enemy. And then there's the fact that spiritual world and airbending won't come to her at all, she feels like she's the worst Avatar ever after all the training she does with no result. Same no result gets her so frustrated that she starts blaming others for her own impatience and mistakes and everything else, says horrible things to people who are trying to help her and runs away in anger. If she can't fight a person, then she rather just leaves and calms down somewhere on her own. She didn't even go to say goodbye to the airbender family, when they left her home after getting frustrated about the fact that they weren't going to stay in the South Pole for her Avatar training. She can be cold like that, despite her favorite and most used element being the hot fire. Korra doesn't want to seem weak. She rarely cries in the company of others. If she's about to cry, she wants to be left alone and she'll go far away to have some peace, where she can just cry without anyone seeing it. But she really doesn't cry often.
Strengths/Weaknesses: + Physically strong, even if it goes down 50% in this world. In canon she's able to kick through doors, raise three kids and an adult man from the ground into a group hug, etc. Also great physical state, she won't get tired easily! + Athletic, she moves like a monkey in fight situations and knows martial arts too + Social and friendly, she has no problem talking with people even if finding words might be a bit difficult at first. + Loyal to the good side and her friends + Brave, she has never backed away from anything or anyone + Honest, it's not always good for her, but at least she can speak up her mind when she wants to.
+/- Loves to help people, it is her duty as the Avatar to help! She's selfless, if anyone needs her help, she'll help. ...And she might get in trouble because she just jumps straight into middle of situations. -/+ She's always had people taking care of her, she's never really needed money or other normal stuff, so being out in the wild is going to be ... new. She can be independent too though, so it just takes a while to get used to.
- IMPATIENT, can things just happen right now? - Brave fronts, she's not always as brave as she acts - but she won't admit her fears and stays strong. Insecurities, we all have them. Korra is too good at hiding her own insecurities and not facing her own fears, she bottles them all up. - Losing her bending abilities is one of her biggest fears, she was born to have them and she's proud and arrogant of them. ...So thank you for making that fear come true. She'll adapt with the powers of her Pokémon. - When she's frustrated with herself, she takes it out on other people. - She usually jumps into things without thinking ahead, including challenging the most dangerous opponents into a fight even when she honestly has no chance of winning. - Says things without thinking ahead, causing situations where she says all the wrong things at the wrong time. - ONE HELL OF A HOT TEMPER and she lacks perception toward damage she might cause whenever her temper + powers go wild.
