Personality:
It's not easy to see what's going on under Shino's hood, in a manner of speaking. He's generally very calm and collected and doesn't show much outward emotion at all save for surprise or irritation. Coupled with all the bulky jackets and goggles obscuring his face, Shino has a mysterious presence one might call intimidating.

Despite his seemingly emotionless demeanour, it just isn't the truth. Shino has a strong connection with his comrades and allies. During the Fourth Ninja War when on the way to Naruto's aid, Shino even forgoes his verbal tic, explaining he didn't need a "because" or reason why. He would simply support Naruto, because. He is shown to be deeply frustrated after being left behind on the mission to retrieve Sasuke. Multiple times he has made reference to that particular incident, unable to let it go and leave it in the past. Although he possesses a great deal of patience, he has a tendency to hold grudges. Due to his serious nature, when Naruto doesn't recognise him at first (but identifies Hinata and Kiba at a glance), Shino takes it personally as if his own friend didn't bother to remember him at all. In a way, his grudges reflect the importance he places on his bonds and his willingness to not leave anyone behind.

He seems to take pride in being understanding of his team and their abilities. He remains the silent support for the rest of his team. In particular, Shino expresses confidence in Hinata and understands to let her grow as best she can in her own way. After he wins his match during the chuunin exam preliminaries, instead of wishing his team mates good luck for their own matches, Shino instead tells them he expects the same from them. The same could be said in regards to himself. When approaching his fights, Shino is never cocky but is confident in his own ability to succeed. Why? Only because he is aware the extent of his ability is enough for victory.

Much of the Aburame clan's battle prowess relies on the ability to outsmart their opponent and maneuver them into a trap. It's not determined whether it is a trait of his clan, or just exclusive to Shino and the few other Aburames shown, but his reserved bearing and clothing obscuring his expression does not allow his opponent to be able to easily predict his next move. While not quite a tactical genius as Shikamaru, Shino is able to think on his feet, strategise, and keep a step or two in front. Always keeping a "trump card" up his sleeve.

No matter how big or small, Shino isn't one to underestimate anyone. When it comes to a battle, he'll go all-out regardless of the condition of his opponent. He doesn't show much sympathy and can almost seem merciless, blowing off his enemy's arms or utilising his knowledge of insects to set a trap of leeches on a team from his fellow village. Shino does not shy away from battle - to the point of placing a female bug on Sasuke to track him, chase him down, and offer to fight Kankuro in Sasuke's stead after being denied their match prior to. That said, he isn't averse to warning the enemy beforehand. He'll urge the other to forfeit rather than suffer unnecessary major injuries if he can foresee it.

Although mindful of others and conscious of their feelings, Shino can come off as impolite at times. Actually, he's quite matter of fact and frank with others, unafraid to speak his mind or nitpick over trivial details... in his strange roundabout way. Shino speaks in a peculiar fashion, prone to stating points that could usually go unsaid or repeating sentences before answering them. To the short-tempered, his speech style can be annoying - even though Shino is not intentionally abrasive.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Able to think on the fly. Relies on outwitting his enemies rather than beating them with sheer physical strength.
+ Composure. Level headed and does not let emotions rule his actions.
+ Never overconfident and does not underestimate anyone.
+ Does not have a soft heart and is unafraid to smack down his opponents.
+ Strong sense of teamwork/bonds with comrades.

- Holds grudges, particularly when he feels personally insulted. Even if it's the littlest issue. He'll remember.
- Is not strong in hand-to-hand combat. Maybe is too reliant on the kikaichū. This might carry across as a specialisation in certain types, rather than a balanced team.
- Has little patience when it comes to repeating himself.
- Bugs. Whilst the kikaichū no longer inhabit his body at Route, his interest in insects tend to ward off most folks.
- Approachability/communication skills. For some reason people seem to think he's creepy??

First Person Sample:
[The camera steadies on an extreme close up of Shino's face. Or whatever you can see of it that isn't hidden behind a pair of googles, high collar, and a forehead protector with what may perhaps be a familiar looking swirly leaf symbol engraved on it.

One might hear the sound of some mild fiddling and button-pushing before the field of vision is altered; at least it isn't zoomed up so close now. A Larvesta is at his side, curiously watching the device. His brows furrow, but he makes no move to speak. Almost as if he turned it on with no intention of actually addressing anyone.

...

[There's an unrushed sense of contemplation before he finally speaks.]

What are the advantages of starting from Kanto?

Third Person Sample:

After forking out enough money for that ferry, Shino had continued his journey alone to Viridian Forest. It had been a little less than three weeks since having found himself in this bizarre place. Needless to say, he was still coming to grips with it. He'd taken some time to stock up on supplies at the last city, since he'd been warned by an overly chipper shopkeeper of the twisting maze-like labyrinth that was Viridian Forest. It would not do to go unprepared.

So there he was, trekking through the dense woodland, his new companion - a Larvesta - trailing behind at his heels. An exceptionally large moth larva, it was even more alarming than those specimens he already knew of... if only because of its ability to emit flames from its sunbeam-like protrusions. He was silently thankful the forest was mostly green matter; the last thing he wanted was to be responsible for burning it down. Oddly enough, for the first time since waking up at "Mom's" house, Shino found it within himself to breathe easy. The landscape was not unlike that found surrounding the Hidden Leaf Village. Although jumping from tree to tree was no longer conducive as travel, it was a terrain he was intimately familiar with.

Over time the constant thrum of the kikaichū within his body cavity and under his skin had become a source of comfort. Instead, it had been replaced by that... background music, looping over and over and over. If he could block out the forest theme, enjoy the dark coolness under the canopies (though as a shinobi, it was unheard of to completely let down all defenses) it could almost, almost be home.

Despite all that was to do in this world, Shino couldn't help but feel restless. It was like an agitating buzz, building and becoming increasingly difficult to ignore as time progressed. The last he remembered, he was in the middle of the Fourth Shinobi War. With the forming of the alliance between the Five Great Nations, no doubt there was a multitude of skilled ninja fighting for their place. Shino was a single individual - he'd hardly be missed. However no matter the size of his impact, he still longed to support Naruto and the rest of the alliance. He didn't like to be left out of such a crucial battle. It was only a matter of time before he'd figure out a way to return back to assist his comrades. In the mean time however...

Shino stopped his pace, Larvesta already prepared to attack the opposing wild Caterpie.

"Take down."

... There were still bug pokemon to capture.
