Personality: [note: reusing the one I wrote for Somarium]
First impression of Madoka is often a somewhat shy and cheerful girl, who talks a lot with everyone. It doesn't matter if she just met them or if she's known them for a long time, she can still talk a lot making new friends without much difficulty. Even when she's nervous in someone's company, she's still acts as calm as possible, unlike her classmates who go wild and ask all the questions from new classmates. She's extremely friendly, most people call her 'too nice', towards everyone - old friends, new friends, even to people who are mean to her. Madoka really tries to get along with everyone. She's polite, raised well by her parents to be a good girl who treats people kindly. Madoka doesn't have any bad habits and - according to her mother - she never lies. Madoka is a good-hearted and gentle girl, who would gladly be friends with everyone. She won't let first impressions have anything to do with how she treats people and she tries to treat everyone equally. When her friends are fighting, she'll try to calm the situation down. When people around her aren't friends with each other, she talks to both alone and tries to make them see the good sides about each other, so they'd become friends. She also aims to call all people by their first names soon after meeting them - it makes her feel like she's closer to them when she can call them with it. Though she will hold back from it with boys, at least in the situation when her friends are interested in them because it'd be weird to call a friend's crush by their first name... Of course she asks first if she can call you with your first name and might look disappointed for a moment if you say no!
Madoka always tries to do what's right and she always tries to do her best too. It's okay to fail, as long as one did her best, you can always try again. Her friends can trust her, completely, whatever the situation. She will be there for them, no matter what. Madoka loves her friends and family the most. She'd sacrifice herself to save her friends, family and her home world, if she really could save everything by one wish. She wants to see her friends being happy and she'll do anything to cheer them up at any time. She accepts everyone as who they are -- unless they happen to be crazy, emotionless creatures, then she might have a lot to say to them. Even if it something seems impossible, such as people getting along, she'll still have hope in the situation and she'll try to do something about it. Being useful is important to her, so she's trying to do everything she can do for her friends. She wants friends to support each other, not fight with each other. She's an honest and reliable girl, and a good daughter.
Madoka is also very emotional. She doesn't hide it at all and it's almost always easy to see what she's thinking. She cries in front of others whenever she's sad or worried to the point of crying, causing her friends to tell her not to worry about them. She offers honest sympathies whenever her friends need it and even when they don't want it. Events and actions in all situations clearly affect her mood: she can easily go from extremely cheerful to crying when it gets really bad. It doesn't take much to make her completely flustered, nor does it take much to get a flustered shock / surprise reaction from her, it's actually very easy as she's pretty bad at hiding her emotions. (Not like she even wants to hide them, because being open is good.) When she needs someone to talk to, she has no problem of walking to someone, such as her mother, to ask for advice when life gets too difficult. Worries constantly about her friends and shows her affection to them easily with either physical ways (she hugs a lot, on a whim and on serious situations too) or with words, or often both.
Sometimes Madoka does things on a whim and sometimes she's very calm and smart, it really depends on the situation. When her friends are in danger, she tends to do things on a whim and without thinking ahead, letting her emotions lead her way. Madoka even offers to go into dangerous situations with her friends, even if she doesn't have any special powers. Her friends appreciate it though, because they're not alone when Madoka is there and she usually helps their confidence that way. She would have made her contract with the devil ages ago if Homura hadn't always stopped her on this timeline. She made it to save a cat's life in a previous timeline. ...And no matter how often she should stay home while magical girls are hunting witches, she goes with her friends or runs after them into all the dangerous situations. That's because she wants to help them. She's also easily manipulated by some skilled, evil manipulators,. She's naive and willing to risk her safety if she can just be there for her friends. They really mean everything to her. She trusts, or at least follows, strangers and / or weird things a little too easily, and she even goes to the most dangerous situations if there's a little hope to save her friend (... like she did when she tried to make Sayaka's witch form hear her while Kyoko was fighting... Just because Kyubey tricked them by telling that a familiar voice might bring Sayaka back. Madoka later found out that it was impossible.) She did have time to think about her whimsical behavior after Homura yelled at her about people who'd miss her if she did something incredibly stupid, but ...Well, she can't really help it, much.
When Madoka is not a magical girl, she actually has a very low self-esteem, often feels uncertain and useless as a normal girl without any talents, feeling that she's only on the way of the magical girls who can fight witches. When she's a magical girl, her confidence is good because then she has some abilities that she's able to use for helping people as much as she can. She even dreamed of becoming a magical girl without a special wish, she just wanted to be like Mami Tomoe - the first magical girl, whom she greatly admired. If only she could help people as much as magical girls do, that would have been great. Smart side of her shows when she tells (white) lies about stuff, or leaves some things untold - such as not telling her mother about magic, even though many situations between them were somehow related to it. (Problems with Sayaka, Madoka coming home late - not that she has a curfew - because she had been talking about magic at Mami's house and the moment when she rushes to save the world...). People trust her, so she doesn't always have to tell the whole truth and she's smart to know when it's better to be quiet about it. She's also smart on not to judge people immediately like some people do. She thinks of the most wise acts, such as her wish to Kyubey just before waking up here and saving the life of the one who can bring things back to normal (but in fact this is shown on timeline 3, and that'd be Homura). Also, while she does everything for her friends, she wouldn't literally give her life or soul for someone who she just met (...except that cat from timeline two). She's not that nice, before she has been friends for a bit longer anyway.
Even when she's scared all the way to her body trembling in a situation where she is needed, she doesn't give up for the sake of helping others. At first Madoka was really excited about making a contract, she made designs of outfits and thought about her possible wish all the time. But, seeing what happened to Mami and later finding out even more about the destiny of the magical girls really scared her to the point where she didn't want to become a magical girl anymore. It took her a long time to figure how to get over that fear ( the way being her own wish ) and still she almost agreed to it even before that, whenever there seemed to be no other choice for her. But things have to get really scary in order to scare her to the point where she locks her self into her room. When Mami dies, she cries a lot apologizing for being so weak, but continues living a normal life anyway. Then when Hell gets loose with Sayaka, she curls up into her room and Kyouko even makes her skip school in order to help Sayka.
Making Madoka angry is not impossible either, it just takes a lot of selfish actions that seriously put her friends in danger, or killing them. It can be made with emotionless and cruel lies too, though she was never angry at Homura who is at least honest while she's blunt and tries to help them. Besides, Homura told the truths, so that's entirely different thing than lying all the time. Kyubey on the other hand, is another thing and she does get angry at him as soon as all of his lies come into the light. When Madoka is angry, she shouts and might be about to throw people with stuff (...such as pillows, so nothing dangerous). She also tried to help a group of people who were trying to make a mass suicide by throwing the dangerous chemicals out of a window after yelling at the people. Even when Madoka is completely devastated and angry at Kyubey, she does try to reason with him and continues talking with him, making him answer all the questions that she might have. It hurts, clearly, and it's not like she's her usual self in those situations, because she's all angry and sad and has just one sad look on her face... But she is not the type to ignore them anyway if they come to talk with her, or if she really has questions for them too. Once she finds out Kyubey's real intentions, he can't trick her anymore though!
Considering her canon point, she does have some of her confidence in her, but she might feel somewhat useless whenever she's in the middle of dangerous situations and can't do anything to help anyone. Madoka certainly knows what she wants to do with her life and wish though, so that helps her confidence a lot.
Strengths/Weaknesses: + Social & helpful, even if she's somewhat shy sometimes, she won't let it get in her way of connecting with people. She's willing to help everyone. + Stays hopeful / optimistic, falling into despair is a death wish in her world, and a bad thing everywhere. + Openess, she will try to get along with everyone, and even still talked with Kyuubey after everything he had done. + Good girl, she never lies (except when she tells white lies sometimes), she's never late, she is trustworthy, she was raised so that her parents can be proud of her. + Drawing! Her style is a bit childish, but she loves her sketchbook to bits.
+/- Somewhat shy, but still tries her best all the time. Her shyness just might annoy some people. +/- Emotional, she can't just bottle up all the feelings inside her like people she admires do and she will cry whenever she feels like crying. It helps her to get back on her feet. +/- Bravery, Madoka does everything for her friends, even follows them to dangerous situations when she can't exactly do much, but if it helps that she's there... She just can't leave people in danger alone, she can't.
- Doing things on a whim. Granted that she actually does think ahead on her canon point, but it took her a lot of mistakes and doing a lot of things on a whim to get to that moment. - She's too nice, helps even strangers and will get in trouble because of it often. - Easily deceived, naive, though canon point helps with this a little, making her a little cautious. But since she is too nice, she really needs other people's help whenever she's about to do something stupid. She really doesn't want to repeat the same mistakes over and over again and make her friends suffer from it any more than they already have suffered from all of her mistakes. - Low-ish self conficende, she says she's not talented at anything. Her self-confidence always goes up when she becomes a magical girl, because then she is great at something. But well, without powers she's just a normal girl who can't even learn any sports no matter how much & often she tries. - Nonindependent, she does rely on the help of her family and friends a lot. Being in a new world, traveling through it and sleeping outside are going to be a whole new experience for her.
