Personality: On the surface, Sion is friendly, charismatic, intelligent, hard-working, and all-around everything a Hero King ought to be. Underneath all that, he's full of self-loathing, a person willing to achieve his ends almost no matter what the means and who despises himself for doing it. At heart, though, he's just a gentle, kindhearted, idealistic young man, who wants nothing more than to make a world where everyone has a chance to be happy. All these points might seem highly contradictory, but in reality they're all interwoven with each other and an integral part of what makes Sion who he is. His idealism fuels his drive to do achieve that perfect future no matter what the cost, while his kindhearted nature regrets having to sacrifice even a single person for the greater good. He's frequently described in canon as possessing both "light" and "darkness" because of this, and rather than trying to be just one or the other he embraces and uses both sides of himself; he's an idealist, but he also knows the harsh truths of the world, and walks the fine line balancing between the two.

Of course, there's also that small issue of him sacrificing part of his humanity for the power to achieve his ideals and the effect that's had on his sanity, but so far he's managed to struggle through and keep hold of his own sense of self. Or at the least, he certainly still always acts as though there isn't anything wrong...

Strengths/Weaknesses: Sion is an amazing liar. No, really, he is. It was probably his ability to lie and act in ways that didn't let on to his true feelings that allowed him to even survive his childhood in the first place, and he certainly continues to use it as he sees fit to get things done. But by that same token, he does hide his feelings, even--perhaps especially--from the people he's closest to, no matter what the consequences to himself. He's also truly an idealist at heart, someone who honestly desires to make the world a better place, and much of his strength comes from his dedication to this cause of making things better for everyone. Again, though, he takes this to an extreme, pulling out all the stops and taking all the work on alone, no matter what the personal cost to himself may be. Sion is quite intelligent and good at seeing the bigger picture, but he's self-sacrificial to a fault and slow to truly get close to people.

Samples
First Person Sample: *The video is blurry when it first flicks on, then the image of a person comes into focus. A young man of perhaps twenty or so, with gold eyes and long silver hair, and an expression of mild concentration.*

Ah, is it working now, then?

*He doesn't wait for a response to his muttered remark, instead, apparently satisfied that the unfamiliar device was indeed doing whatever it was supposed to, he gives a friendly smile.*

Hello. My name is Sion Astal, and while I'm afraid I don't quite know how I came to be in this place, as it seems I may be remaining here a while, any information anyone may have to offer would be appreciated.

*He pauses, glancing down at himself, then back at the screen.*

...in particular, if anyone knows where one might acquire more than a single change of clothes. I'm afraid mine are, well--*he shrugs, gesturing to the long, flowing robes he happens to be wearing*--as you can see, mine aren't exactly well-suited to travel, and while someone was kind enough to provide me with another set, it would be nice to have something to spare.

You have my thanks in advance, in any case.

*And with another pleasant smile, he flips off the broadcast, ending it.*

Third Person Sample: When he came to, it was immediately clear that Sion was far, far from the land he knew. The sudden change in setting and weather aside--he'd been leaving the palace, and it had been just about to rain before--he could feel that the power he should have had access to was gone. It was a chilling thought, but on the other hand, he was entirely unharmed; in fact he felt almost better than he had in quite some time. And not to mention, he thought upon a moment's reflection, there was a bag of what appeared to be various supplies left near at hand, as well. All of which suggested that, who or whatever had whisked him away from Roland and deposited him here at least didn't have hostile intentions.

Sion let out a small sigh, shaking his head. What did it say about how badly things were going that his first thoughts would be such suspicion? No one would blame him, perhaps, but he didn't consider it any excuse. He was well aware of the darkness that existed in the world, but that didn't mean it was wholly without light.

"In any case, there's no point sitting around..." he muttered to himself, sitting up and picking up the bag to investigate its contents. Some of it was indeed of a practical nature: clothing, food, and so on, but much of it left him puzzled. There was a strange object made of a material he'd never seen before and which opened up like a clam or small book; Sion wasn't quite sure what it was, but undoubtedly he could figure it out once he took some time to more thoroughly investigate. There was also several small, red and white colored balls, again of an unknown purpose. Curious, Sion picked one up. Pressing the button on one side opened it, but there was nothing inside.

Before he could put it down, however, he noticed one of the other balls had started to move. It rocked back and forth briefly, then suddenly split open of its own accord. But unlike the one he held in his hand, this one emitted a bright light, which coalesced into the form of black and white creature he'd never seen before.

"Sol. Absol," the creature sounded almost as though it were speaking. Sion simply stared a little, wondering how that was even possible, when the strange object from before began to beep. Picking it up and opening it, the flat panel inside suddenly came to life, glowing with an image of the creature in front of him along with a brief piece of text.

Absol, the Disaster Pokémon. It senses coming disasters and appears before people only to warn them of impending danger.

Sion blinked, then looked at the creature--the Absol--in front of him again. Ah, of course... he thought as it stared at him. He certainly wouldn't blame it if--...

He didn't get to finish his train of thought, however, when the Absol strolled up to him, sitting down before his feet, almost protectively, and looking up at him again. Sion blinked, surprised.

"...is that really all right?" he wondered aloud. He didn't expect it to understand him, but he could have sworn it gave a nod anyway.

"Sol."

Sion hesitated, then allowed himself a small smile. "Well, I suppose if you're certain, who am I to say no?" he muttered. He still wasn't sure what to make of all this, but having a companion in it was at least a start.
