Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

Character
Name: Visas Marr
Series: Knights of the Old Republic II : The Sith Lords
Timeline: Immediately after the battle with Darth Nihilus.
Canon Resource Links: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Visas_Marr

Personality: Visas is a very even-tempered person. She is not prone to violence or anger easily or even sadness. On that note she has spent five years of torture under a Force Bond with Darth Nihilus, physical and mental scars in her thoughts constantly. It wasn't until she served under the Exile that her faith in people was restored partially but still tends to be surprised at acts of kindness. She is fiercely and perhaps even dangerously loyal to those who earn her trust. The fact that she was the only living being that survived the planet gives her a constant amount of guilt, having a servant-like personality. While she isn't quick to any emotion, when she is on any particular emotion, it is difficult to sway her from that path.

While her outlook seemed bleak when she was with her Sith Master, with the Exile she found a glimmer of hope that perhaps all isn't lost, that when the Exile was ready she would succeed. Visas also knew full well of the dangers her group faced as she put it: there are many sides of hatred and they all have the Dark Side to its name.' She is a quiet and soft-spoken person, and a very perceptive one at that, as she was able recognize Mandalore the Preserver just by his voice. (also known as Canderous Ordo, a collegue of Revan's) And though she may not say much on the surface, she is a very loyal companion and has the utmost trust in the Exile and those she trusts. Her saying of 'my life for yours' means simply that if choices force her to choose between that of her Master's life or her own, she would gladly sacrifice herself to save the Exile. She's very serious in most occasions and the concept of humor is lost on her at times. If someone was being sarcastic, Visas likely would not pick that up.. The only thing more I could add to this is that Visas is very formal to those she is not familair with.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Combat Skills: She's very good at melee combat, as she was both apprenticed to a Sith Lord and a Jedi Knight. Even though she won't have her lightsaber with her in Route and the ability to use the Force stripped from her, she knows how to defend herself through various lightsaber styles and (I presume) this extends to hand to hand as well.

Lack of Socialization: She's a very serious-minded person and doesn't understand jokes or any sort of sarcasm. The fact that her people rarely leave the homeworld, in this case being Katarr. So Visas' probably knew few non-Miraluka before the planet died and she felt the whole thing. Her only 'friends' (if you could call them that) were the people the Jedi Exile Meetra Surik knew. Even so she generally doesn't speak unless spoken too or in the rare case that she wouldn't like the descision of what Meetra Surik the Jedi Exile would decide.

Emotions: She's not very prone to anger or most emotions easily as stated in the personality section. Visas is also very much self-sacrifice for those who have earned her respect and companionship. She trusts the Exile's companions simply because the Exile does, as simple as that. She does leave a comment from time to time about the worlds she and the Exile's companions travel to, such as when they arrived at Nar Shaddaa. Her line of saying 'My life for yours' is remarkable because after years of being tortured by Darth Nihilus the fact she can have hope for anyone is a testiment to her strong will.

First Person Sample: [Visas' image as well as a small female Meditite is shown at the former Miraluka's feet. Visas had an inquisitive feature on her voice as her Pokemon stood at attention.]

Greetings. I have been told this world is named Johto by someone calling themselves my mother. An untruth perhaps, but that is not the reason I ask of others in my own position. First of all, has anyone arriving here been... altered? It appears human is the default species in this world and these... Pokemon of course. It is... interesting to see through eyes rsther than through other means. The other point I wished to ask is has anyone heard of a young woman by the name of the Exile? It is vitally important that I locate her immediatiately if she's somewhere on this world. Thank you for your time. My name, if you wish it is Visas Marr.

Third Person Sample:

The (former) Miralukan Jedi known as Visas Marr knew that patience happened to be one of her strong suits, but right now she was trying to focus on multiple things on a nearby wooded area. And it was taking a toll on her physically. The small blue and white skinned Meditite (perhaps affectionly) named Brianna was looking at her new trainer with a mixture of wonder, amazement, and helplessness. Upon Visas' arrival, she had become unaccustomed to sight via her new eyes rather than throught the Force. So Brianna was showing the woman how to spar with her eyes as Visas took that better than through other means.

It had taken several tries with Brianna but as she had caught on rather slowly, Visas figured out how to see with her eyes. "This was a most agreeable training period, Brianna. Perhaps a five minute break then we should get moving?" The small Fighting/Psychic type agreed wholeheartedly. So she gently jumped on Visas' lap, almost passed out from the training.

Visas while not the most emotionally stunted person around usually, knew that rest would good for the both of them. "Perhaps some food, Brianna? Would you like that?". The Meditite nodded happily if a bit tiredly. Visas pulled out a small box full of Pokemon treats which Brianna happily scarfed down. After Visas had eaten her own boxed lunch about ten minutes later, the pair were walking further in Route 29. As they walked down the path they were in the way of a Bug/Fighting type: a Heracross who was resting on the path disturbed by all the sparring that Visas and Brianna had done. So, he decided to fight them.

Brianna wasn't impressed by the Single Horn Pokemon and Visas wasn't inclined to battle at this moment. "Heracross, leave us be: that is your only warning." It didn't look as though Heracross would listen and Visas prepared for the first move. Heracross aimed one of his arms at the smaller target aka Brianna but she dodged the attack. She then glowed blue and knocked the bug into a tree with a Confusion attack, being super effective the attack weakened the Heracross long enough to for Visas to catch it. With a nod to Brianna, Visas looked at the captured Heracross in her hand. "Well done, Brianna. Now perhaps we should get a move on now?" The Meditite nodded with a shrug, and they continued on no matter what challenges they faced.

Name: Heine Rammsteiner
Series: DOGS: BULLETS & CARNAGE
Timeline: Chapter 73, just after his fight with Naoto.
Canon Resource Links:

To give a general idea of what kind of world Heine comes from, feel free to click here! It's a very strange mixture of Europe with no specific time frame as there are old school telephones but surprisingly good TV connection and scientific break throughs. It's a world where drug and sex trafficking run rampant and lawless generally exists all over the place. Did I mention a healthy dose of genetic splicing and manipulation? The town that Heine specifically hails from is split into the "Above" world and the "Underground" world- it's difficult to say whether or not the rest of the world is split into a set up like this, but regardless the underground tends to house the lowest of the low while the above world houses the rich and the well off.

There isn't a lot of Heine's background comprehensively on his wiki page but it does give a general outline of what's happened to him. I'll attempt to keep this as short as possible and fill in the blanks.

Most of Heine's history is shrouded in darkness. His earliest memory is waking up in an underground test facility with a 'collar' around his neck and after that, it's sad to say that his life didn't get much better. The 'collar' was placed there by one Angelika Einsturzen, and with this collar came some less than cheery abilities. Heine's body was fused with a 'spine' that gifted him with enhanced ability. He was stronger, faster and it essentially gave him regenerative powers that prevented him from dying unless he was shot in the head (but even that's debatable). There in the test facility, he and other 8 to 9 year old test subjects like him, were pitted against monsters and each other to see how well these operations and mutations fared. This became to be known as the "Kerberos Project". There he met Lily, his "sister" and Giovanni, his "brother". The three, from what can be seen in the flashbacks, were relatively closer to each other than they were with the other test subjects. Despite not knowing the outside world, all the children knew that the whole process of 'killing, sleeping, eating and then repeat' wasn't right. They could get glimpses of memories of the world above and they quickly planned an escape from the facility. This proved difficult, however, considering the amount of security there was and how ever watchful Dr. Einsturzen, their "mother", was (which actually turned out to be a fitting term seeing as he had been a product of her genes).

Unfortunately, one day, Heine was called to the private room of the doctor and was offered a chance to become stronger than he already was. That is to say, stronger than the rest of the test subjects involved. Heine agreed and was immediately implanted with the Ruler spine instead of the Kerberos spine. The abilities that this spine gave him were much the same but magnified and he was also given the power to instill leadership over all the soldiers that she had made and was yet to create. There are hint plots at this point, about Einsturzen and Neubauten about making Heine into the leader of the 'Dead Country,' something that the two were no doubt plotting to put into action. Once fused with the Ruler spine, this is when Heine really meets his Kerberos and for a lack of a better term, loses control sending him into a berserk frenzy. Einsturzen shows him to the new test subjects, claiming that since he's the Ruler, they won't be needing them anymore. Predictably, all of the other test subjects, save for Giovanni, are massacred and when Heine comes to, he's sitting on top of Lily's mangled body with the other corpses of his friends littered around him. Fun, right? After this little scene, Heine develops an extreme fear of women and he'd do anything in his power not to have any physical contact with them whatsoever. Heine escapes from the test facility somehow (PLOT HOLE!) and ends up emerging in the Above world. There, he's taken under the care of Bishop who helps his recovery process.

At some point down the line, Heine meets Badou Nails who becomes his heterosexual partner for life partner when it comes to dealing with odd jobs around the city that mostly involve information collecting and 'persuading'. The two have very different personalities and it's difficult to say what brought them together or why they're still working together at all, but their dynamic works and neither seems to be hurrying to change it any time soon. Heine has his reasons and it's unlikely that he'll ever tell anyone them because they're his reasons alone. Somewhere between leaving a trail of blood, running into shenanigans with Badou and trying to find a way back into the Underground, Heine encounters Nill. In an uncharacteristic act of kindness, he saves her from some thugs and after saving her, brings her to Bishop to take care of her. It is important to note, that she is the first female after his experience with Lily, to have touched him without him having a panic attack or letting Kerberos take over. He's become somewhat attached to her, but again, the reasoning behind it is for him to know although many have speculated. All anyone really needs to know is that if they mess with Nill, it's highly likely that an angry Heine will follow. Giovanni ends up making a reappearance in his life shortly after and soon enough, Heine ends up caught up in the Underground world that he more or less fought tooth and nail to get away from.

People connected to Dr. Einsturzen and his past also crop up, and at the end of chapter six, Heine has encountered Naoto, someone whose past is also connected to the doctor. Shortly after this, Badou, Heine and Naoto more or less end up teaming up, or at the very least begin sticking around each other. The next set of characters that they meet, are another pair of genetically modified twins named Luki and Noki who address him quite plainly as "big brother" and a fight simply ensues because they're 'bored'. Heine ends up having the opportunity to kill one of them but stops when he realizes that they're also products of genetic modification and he just can't bring himself to do it. Badou ends up breaking up the tension though because he runs out of patience and cigarettes. Bit by bit, Heine's past catches up to him and he learns that Bishop had been hiding something from him the entire time as well. Bishop wasn't his real name; it was simply one he went by. His true name was Ernest Rammsteiner and he too was an experiment. Heine was understandably pissed that someone he trusted had lied to him but they had little time to fight over this fact when other more important matters were at hand. Trains end up crashing and a huge fight breaks out with a whole bunch of mutated soldiers from Underground and look! A wild Giovanni appears in front of Heine again to do battle! Giovanni confirms the worst news: Einsturzen is planning something for the above world and her plans are quickly put into action starting right then and there. The fighting comes to a stand still when the mutated soldiers all blow up simultaneously all over the city causing massive damage and Heine at the end of it all is still gripped by the power of Cerberus. It takes Naoto's quick slap to the head to wake him up and surprisingly he doesn't flinch away from her.

The city goes into clean up mode and the mysterious mayor of the city is revealed because apparently no one has ever seen his face. Yeah. I don't know either guys. Heine finally tells people about his past in the labs and about his connection to Lily and Giovanni, but the sad times don't last very long because Magato ends up showing up to apparently draw out Cerberus but their fight is cut short by the appearance of one of Einsturzen's clones. Naoto is suddenly brainwashed into fighting Heine, and it becomes horrifyingly apparent that the sword that she had all along was apparently one that had the ability to really kill Heine for good. He's being taken from a canon point just shortly after their fight is over and Naoto has been returned to her normal state. Unfortunately, that also means that the poison in Heine's body is spreading and not stopping any time soon.

Character
Name: Timmy Turner
Series: Fairly Odd Parents
Timeline: Season 5, episode 29
Canon Resource Links: http://fairlyoddparents.wikia.com/wiki/Timmy_Turner

Personality: Timmy is a child that as the theme song to the series states is ‘an average kid that no one understands’. He lives a tough life with his mother and father being oblivious to what is going on with his life by not being there for him and hiring an evil babysitter. He’s not the most popular at school, but he has friends. He however would love to be noticed by his popular peers and of course popular. He would particularly love for Trixie Tang (his crush) to notice him but because of his low social standing he’d be lucky if she remembered his name.

The silver lining to his otherwise crappy life is he has a secret being that he has Fairy Godparents called Cosmo and Wanda. They grant his every wish (within limits and following ‘Da Rules’). He can at times be very selfish with his wishes, but normally he chooses the right path and corrects his wrong doings. He’s pretty much like a regular ten year old, full of energy, spontaneous and doesn’t think about the consequences of his actions until later. He has a very short attention span and is easily distracted; he doesn’t like to be bored and needs to be entertained.

His main excuse or reasoning behind things tends to be due to the internet. “Uh….internet?” This tends to be enough to get whoever has asked him about something off his back. Even having to protect his secret has not made him very good at making up excuses or lies. Despite being at school every day Timmy constantly gets Fs and very seldom gets good grades.

Timmy can be mean at times, this can be seen mostly towards Tootie, a girl who is madly in love with him and stalks him. He tends to be the main cause for her being sad, but there are times where Timmy does nice things for her too. He can be mean to his friends too, especially if Trixie is involved by dropping his time with them to try and impress her. He can be a shallow person, but overall he tends to do the right thing when he is mean. He is a hero type character and is courageous, even when he is afraid. Another thing that should be noted is that Timmy seems to be more intelligent than most of the adults in his world.

Despite it being hard, especially as he is used to having magic in his life, Timmy is capable of looking after himself. He’s proved that despite it being a struggle he does manage, even if it means enduring Vicky or Crocker without help from Cosmo and Wanda in several episodes.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Timmy is brave and adapts to situations. He has stood up to Vicky, Francis (the school bully) and even Mr Crocker without the help of Cosmo and Wanda and their magic. Although he has been shown to run away from his problems, he usually always faces them and defends himself and others around him. That being said Timmy stands up for his friends often, even if it means he ends up dealing with the bully worse than his friends.

Timmy has shown in some episodes that he is good at video games, although not a skill as such it is one thing he is really able to concentrate fully on (as he has a small concentration span). It has however helped him in several FOP episodes.

Another Strength of Timmy’s is that he is a strong leader when he needs to be. He motivates people around him as seen in the episode where he wishes everyone was a super hero and all the heroes have to face the villains without powers. Timmy motivates them to fight with positive reinforcement that they can win. This is also another example of him adapting without having Cosmo and Wanda.

Despite being mean at times to his friends, Tootie and Cosmo and Wanda he really does care for them (yes even Tootie to some extent) and he absolutely adores Cosmo and Wanda. He is a loyal and loving boy and this side is shown often.

Some weaknesses of Timmy’s are that he can rely on Cosmo and Wanda a little too much and he can be shown to be selfish and ungrateful about his wishes. He is easily bored and needs to be entertained due to having a very short attention span, sometimes leading him to not finish projects or accidently kill his pets (like his hamster).

At times he can be selfish and shallow towards his friends, Godparents and Tootie, despite caring for them all in someway. This probably comes from the age he is and the fact that he is desperate to impress and be noticed by Trixie.

He fears having his secret (Fairy Godparents) discovered, his teacher Mr Crocker/babysitter Vicky. If this was to happen Cosmo and Wanda would be taken away forever and this is something Timmy could not bear to deal with. Without Cosmo and Wanda his life would be awful again.

Timmy also fears clowns, oranges, bare feet, man eggs and his dads butt.

[A bucktoothed child with a silly pink hat appears on the video feed. He looks a little confused and a little fed up. However, he smiles slightly and gives a small wave]

Uh…hi! I’m Timmy! [Again he waves at the screen]

I’m new here and uh…I’m a little lost too. There was this crazy lady who said she was my Mom but she kinda isn’t? [He frowns] And this thing keeps following me everywhere.

[He pans the camera down to a rather jolly looking Cleffa that is bouncing around him.]I mean it’s kinda awesome but It’s not mine!

[He pans the camera back so it’s now face on] Uh, also if you happen to find some Fair—ly[He holds the ‘Fair’ for a few moments before quickly adding ‘ly’ to the end of the word almost as though he was going to say something different. ] normal goldfish let me know! They’re my pets and they’re not here.

Thanks! [With that he turns off the video feed]

Third Person Sample:

To say Timmy was confused by the events of what had just happened would be an understatement. He was absolutely sure he’d gone to sleep in his own bed, in his own house and with Cosmo and Wanda nearby. Instead he’d woken in a bed that wasn’t his own and was greeted by a Mom that was not his. He had tried to fight against what was going on but this ‘Mom’ had pushed him out of the door as quickly as possible. He had tried his best to get back into the house but it was locked and the lights were out. Timmy had yelled out in frustration to get answers, which of course were ignored. “This stinks!” he moaned.

Timmy had then realized that Cosmo and Wanda were nowhere to be seen. He searched for them high and low and could not find them anywhere. He sat down on the ground exhausted. Why was this happening? It was then that he heard something in his pocket making a noise. He pulled it out and listened or rather he listened as well as his short attention span would let him. He had to admit that the bits he did hear sounded kind of awesome and it did explain the pink thing that had been following him.

“Pokemon? Huh…that’s kinda neat” he said to himself, looking curiously at the pink pokemon that was looking back at him.

It wasn’t Cosmo or Wanda but to have a friendly face looking at him was a little comforting. Timmy looked at the pokedex with curiosity, the pink pokemon came in a little closer too. Just like any child would do he held down buttons, trying to see what else the pokedex could do. It was then it finally spoke again.
Cleffa, the Star Shape Pokémon. Cleffa is the pre-evolved form of Clefairy

“So you’re Cleffa?” Timmy asked, to which Cleffa nodded. He could help but think of it to be kinda funny that somehow the word ‘fairy’ had been used there. Timmy didn’t completely understand it but somehow even here he was associated with something to do with ‘fairies’. Actually come to think about it Cleffa did sort of look like a certain someone with pink hair back home. Timmy couldn’t help but grin a little to himself. "Awesome!"

Character
Name: Fionna the Human
Series: Adventure Time!
Timeline: Post "Bad Little Boy"
Canon Resource Links: Adventure Time Wiki

Personality:

There are a few important things to understand about Fionna before swinging right into the personality. It's questionable whether she actually exists or not. Within the show "Adventure Time" there is a man called the Ice King. Fionna is, supposedly, his creation. In his crazy wizard mind. As the star of his very own fanfiction. Though there is a lot of speculation, through different episodes, that she actually does exist. (Her skeleton shows up under the land of Ooo at some point.) Her personality is strikingly similar to Finn's, with some subtle differences involved.

Fionna, like Finn, is very much a hero type. She is always ready to take on a villainous Ice Queen or protect a patch of Fire Lions from the rain. Her bravery is commonly recognized by Prince Gumball of the Candy Kingdom, and her sense of duty is VERY strong to them. Mostly, she is very loyal to friends, even if they have differences. Like Finn in normal Adventure Time, Fionna and Cake are always saving the Princes of the land. This hero has compassion like no other, and will always stand up for the little guy.

I honestly dont believe Fionna will have a rough transition into Route, seeing as Ooo is much the same. She lives in a tree for cripes sake. One of the things Finn does (and I assume Fionna as well) are dungeon crawls. Though they will be different with Pokemon involved, the idea is much the same. In other words, Fionna is very used to roughing it. She has a love for adventure and swords and pointy things, and weapons, and BOY THINGS EEE.

In other words, Fionna is a tomboy. |D Very much so a tomboy. Ice Queen has said it many times in the canon. She is not afraid to get a little sweaty or her hands dirty, even at her young age.

Being that she is only 13, Fionna has a lot to discover about life and love. Especially love. In the Episode "Bad Little Boy" Fionna is tricked by Marshall pretending to be fatally wounded in an attempt to get her to admit she likes him. Instead she rages and when she finds out it was a trick, she totally punches his cheekmeats. Even when she saves Gumball from the Ice Queen, he offers to take her on a date. She tells him that she doesn't need to feel like she's waiting to be noticed, and if that time comes along, she'll know what she wants.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Fionna does two things, really awesome.
1) Saving Princes.
2) Kicking butts.
And she's all outta Princes to save.

Nah, she has a few more redeeming qualities!
-She is very loyal to her friends
-Very righteous attitude
-Fun-loving

Weaknesses:

-She can get frustrated and uncomfortable when people toy with her young maiden heart, joking or serious
-Jumps into the fray of battle head first. Or fist first. Sometimes kick first. Either way, she's just as likely to fight the pokemon as her pokemon are.

Pokémon Information
Affiliation: Trainer!
Starter: Riolu -

The most obvious one is that Riolu is a fighting type Pokemon. Fionna is a major fighter, as she commonly defends the residents of Aaa from danger. She is constantly training and sparring to better her moves. AKA, Riolu would be a training buddy! As well, Riolu is known to be intensely loyal, just like Fionna is. Most importantly, Fionna is all about friends and being close and relying on those friends, and Riolu evolves with friendship. In all, Riolu is probably most similar to Fionna in personality.

Password: Ginger Snaps.

Samples
First Person Sample:

[It's been a heated battle between Fionna's Riolu a wild Rattata. Quick attacks, tackles, it had to be very basic, considering the early levels.]

C'mon, you can do it! Just quick attack and follow it up with a good left hook! Like I showed you! [It's driving her mad that she's not the one fighting to be honest. She's not used to sitting in the background. It'd seem Riolu is winning--at least until a Raticate shows up to join the battle...]

[Aww hell no.]

[No, no, no. You definitely don't gang up on her friend.]

[So screw this. Fionna marches on in midst of the battle and puts 'em up. No way she's letting her new friend fight alone--not if she can help it.]
You wanna play dirty? Then c'mon, I'll fight you!

Third Person Sample:

Well... That might be the weirdest morning she's ever had in her life. First with the alarm going off and there were none of Cake's infamous Bacon-infused pancakes, or... well, no Cake for that matter! Then that crazy woman shoving her outside with a pack and just...

What?

Fionna's first reaction is to get the heck out of dodge and get back to the Treehouse. Gumball had invited them over to the Candy Kingdom for a ceremonial tea whachamacallit, and she did not intend on missing it! But as she would begin to explore the little town.. well.. None of this looked familiar.

Worry starts it's onset for Fionna as she bumps into this weird old guy, who hands her a ball and says some wack jazz and sets on his merry way.

Umm, alright. Sure.

Now when this adorable fighting dog looking thing pops out and strikes a fighting pose...

Well now she's excited. This is the start to a beautiful friendship.

Character
Name: Jonathan
Series: Shin Megami Tensei IV
Timeline: After being sucked into the Expanse
Canon Resource Links: Wiki Page

Personality:
Jonathan is polite. That’s the first noticeable thing about him. He says it’s because of his good upbringing, and that it’s nothing, only what’s expected, right? Incredibly nice, incredibly kind- bland, unspecific words that form the first layer. After a while of knowing him, say- five minutes- you also realize he’s… a bit too nice. He’s that one guy in class who reminds the teacher when they forget to collect homework, and whenever anyone gives him a glare in the face for it, he very clearly and adamantly declares “Hiding truths for your own benefit is morally wrong.” He could easily be dismissed as a teacher’s pet, or society’s lapdog, bowing down to the higher authorities and giving every politically correct answer.

Well, to a certain extent, that could be true. Jonathan is the game’s Law Hero- long story short, the Law Hero is peaceful. They are caring, and serve under God’s will. They do what must be done to bring justice and believe in order, plucking out the seeds of rebellion and live to aid others. That is Jonathan in a nutshell, though, it’s a very thin nutshell and breaks easily. From a puppet of God to a man who fights for peace (hah! how ironic is that-), there’s a lot to start from. But let’s start off his love of peace first.

Jonathan is almost poisonous to conflict. He understands that sometimes it has to happen, of course, but whenever his friends begin to bicker or anything starts to lose their temper, Jonathan is the first one on scene to try to quell it. He tries to unite them and almost acts like a counselor, though if they’re at odds for too long his irritation begins to show. (“Problem? There’s no problem, guess what? You’re the problem, now quiet.”) (Well, he didn’t say that literally, but something quite close to it.) But normally, he seems to have boundless patience and will quite happily get to the root of problems and stop any argument that happens to surface.

Unless, of course, he starts the argument. In which case, you’ve messed up pretty badly.

Any rudeness or harsh comments that roll off him are few and far between, though, and he always apologizes profusely if they slip off his tongue. That’s because he chooses his words VERY carefully; there is no room for mishap, no room for a mean insult that could hurt someone, no no, he would not stand for that. He thinks before he says anything, and as such, he doesn’t talk as much as others would. Therefore, if Jonathan says anything to oppose you, it’s an opposition that has deliberated over the implications of the words he’s about to spit as well as how you would feel. If both of the aforementioned are overridden, the stance Jonathan is on is most likely something that he believes strongly in, and an outburst from him signals that.

And it’s the fact that he is so scared of conflict that makes any sort of argument from him all the more powerful. If you say something or do something he considers outright vile, he will not hesitate to cut you down. It’s not only that, too; if you are his friend, it is optimal you listen to him when he raises his voice. He values his friends a great deal. Even more than his own life, and he would not forgive anyone who hurts them (including himself). Jonathan loves practically everyone who has been kind to him before; it doesn’t matter if they don’t see eye to eye, or they spend most of the time in silence. If they have been kind to him, he will return it exponentially, leaving him open for those ‘friends’ back up and turn right around to smack him in the face.

He cannot accept the notion of the strong towering over and oppressing the weak; he believes everyone is born equal, and should be treated thus so. Everyone has an equal amount of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in them, and he likes to believe that sometimes, people simply just don’t show their ‘good’ as much as their ‘bad’. Jonathan does not believe he has the right to hold anyone’s life within his hands, but he will still do it, if they are only getting what they deserve. If anyone backstabs him, or (God forbid) his friends, he will hunt them down. Even if they’ve treated him well before. Though, it will come with his own emotional turmoil, should he ever face down a stranger who’s done nothing wrong to him or a former (or current) friend with his sword.

He has to keep a strong front, though. Should anyone in his vicinity begin to droop in spirits, Jonathan will race over and pick them up again. If anyone begins to cry, or break down, he would never hold it against them. But never, never never never is he allowed to do the same. He disallows himself from caving into his own weakness; after all, if he does that, he’ll only be a burden, won't he? Jonathan cuts back on his privileges, always giving himself in to others and takes away his own freedom to accommodate others. He even destroys his right to face his sorrows. He is a living, breathing (and literal) martyr who considers any action for himself alone an undeniably selfish thing, even if it does not harm anyone, but doesn’t think anything of anyone else doing so. Jonathan tells everyone else to do whatever they deem happiness for them, just as long as they do not hurt anyone else (or themselves), but refuses to allow himself the same luxury.

What is the reason for this absolutely skewed logic? Back to the beginning- he is kind. So atrociously kind that it ultimately is his undoing, as the later paragraphs will delve into. Jonathan lives for others, lives to serve others, to see them smile, and protect them from others and not being involved in those said others, of course, he is forever a third party until someone says something he disagrees ever so strongly with.

And that’s where the consequences of kindness begin to kick in.

Because he is so utterly kind to absolutely everyone, there’s a sort of misguided arrogance around him. Arrogance isn’t quite the right word, but rather, an odd air of false wisdom. He believes himself a servant of God, and a man who carries out his duties. Jonathan is kind and he sees so many people afraid, sad and in despair that he’s formed his philosophies and moralities over the protection of them. And the protection of them must come from those above him; can they not see, that the higher-ups have only been trying to save them? Jonathan has seen many sides of the arguments he’s staunchly tried to stop; and he believes that, while people kick and scream and yell for their own rights and their own freedom, it is only for their own benefit.

(The only exception to this is Tayama, a character in Tokyo. But that is because Tayama uses such vile and terrible methods for the greater good Jonathan cannot help but utterly loathe him.)

Jonathan believes he has seen oh so many sides to the story because he is a side-character. And thus, because he’s seen so much, whenever he creates a stance he believes himself to be right. Unanimously right, without a doubt. But oh, why would he be wrong? He knew what awaited them if they didn’t agree with him- sadness, oppression… yes, this was all for their own benefit! He is correct, (and he is stubborn) and nothing can convince him otherwise.

Driven by righteousness and to help the plight of others, Jonathan is… dangerous, yet not so. As much as he believes in his own thoughts and his own morals, he still thinks that hurting anyone, even if they deserve it, is still wrong. He still believes all humans have some manner of good and bad inside of them (though, he thinks the demons back in his world are only filled with lies and horrible intentions), and thus, will never outright kill anyone without a very very very very very good reason. Restricted by the very morals that give him strength, he refuses to go too far with his justice…

…(and then, the Archangels tell him the only way to bring peace is to destroy lives beyond comprehension. But that’s another story, for another day.)

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Kindness. To reiterate, he is repulsively kind and self-sacrificing. He lives to help others and definitely considers it a positive trait of his. His kindness gives himself strength as well, and the ability to believe in his actions. Unfortunately…

- …because he is so kind and believes in himself, Jonathan is extremely stubborn. His moral viewpoint is always the correct one. No arguments. Shush. Obviously, this attitude isn’t going to bode well for him or for other people. Still, he hangs onto his idealistic views and believes them wholesome and true.

+ Strength. His father had trained him to become a Samurai, and train he did. Very skilled with a sword (though he doesn’t have one on him right now) and hand-to-hand combat. So even if he’s caught without his Pokémon, he can fend for himself.

- He is… not very smart. His father works in the Monastery and supplies him with all the books, knowledge and education anyone in the East Kingdom of Mikado… but in the end, book smarts don’t always add up to street smarts. His grasp on logic is weak and he can study all his wants about Pokémon and their tactics- it’s going to be very surprising if he ever learns how to predict the actions of trainers and Pokémon alike. Jonathan was never any good at demon negotiation; now, this isn’t any different, is it?

+ Faith. No matter what happens, he believes in his morals, and believes in his God. He will never allow himself to lose hope, no matter what happens, and places trust in his companions, human or non-human.

- His stubbornness and idealism, again. If he is set on something, he will NOT give up on it. Bear in mind, this is very different from determination; this is blind faith. Jonathan is far too trusting and ends up hurt more than he would like to admit. Still, he holds firm to his ideals and believes that one day, perhaps, they can really come true…

+ Righteousness. No matter how much he believes in authority most of the time, if anyone of any position says or does something he disagrees with strongly, they had better be prepared for a fight. (There is once, though, that he is misled to think the morals he believes in is wrong and that their own way is correct; but it involved Archangels and genocide, so let’s not go there.)

- …basically, this is yet another strength that is exaggerated to the point it becomes a weakness as well. His outbursts against anything he is strongly against can make him look like a fool.

The camera flickers on. The man’s face isn’t facing the device- rather, his head is turned, and you can hear him talking to someone.]

So, I press this? …Oh, it’s working! Many thanks, my friend.

[His expression obviously shows that he’s glad. A Sigilyph slowly glides into view, though it’s mostly obscured by the man’s face.] Good afternoon. To those who may receive this, I have to inquire… amongst you, do you know of anyone from the East Kingdom of Mikado?

Or, wearing the same uniform, as me, at least. Their names, for additional confirmation, are Flynn and Walter. You see, I have been separated from them- in the least superfluous terms, and least- and I urgently need to find my friends again.

[The Sigilyph suddenly turns mechanically in the air. Jonathan jolts up and turns around.]

Please excuse me for a moment. [He turns to his Sigilyph.] Is there something amiss…?

[There is completely silence for a moment, and then, an odd noise from off-screen.]

What is th- AH!

[Something launches itself onto Jonathan and the video feed is moved violently, then abruptly cut off.]

Third Person Sample:
“Apologies. I am… not normally this unfocused.”

‘Unfocused’ was a terrible word to use. No, he was slowly becoming an adversity- everything passing around in a blur. The woman who claimed to be his mother (obviously very confused, he should have helped her but then he hesitated and-) and a very odd system to replace Burroughs; that was all he could grasp, before a strange red-and-white ball was placed in his palm.

The Expanse… could this place really be the Expanse? It was too sunny. Confusing, illogical, but…

And then his finger slipped onto the (Poké)ball, and his doubt was replaced with awe.

That only made matters worse, however; having been graced with an angel as a ‘starter’, he has already gone out of his way to give it trouble. Jonathan sighed, ignoring the stinging claw mark on his face as a fainted Sentret laid on the grass.

Not angel, the Sigilyph rang in its majestic tone into his head. Pokémon.

“Oh, yes. Sorry,” Jonathan apologized yet again, almost bowing to the flying tome. In his anxiety and lack of knowledge, the Pokémon had to guide him on how to use the devices, in broken sentences and a jarring mode of communication- though, it was still intelligible, at least. And Jonathan would be in a much worse state without it.

If only that Walter didn’t… Jonathan forced the damning thoughts out of his head, remembering that the Sigilyph was present and may get worried. (Turns out, the Pokémon couldn't even read his mind. He just thought. Out loud.)

“How did you fight it, by the way? I could see you used a Force move, but I was not aware you could use Lullaby. Or, no… it’s called Gust and Hypnosis, isn’t it?” Jonathan let out a hollow laugh, the odd metal book (called a Pokédex?) coming into his mind. Right now, his friend knew three moves. There didn't seem to be a cap, so no Application was needed to up the move count. "I do not understand the speech of these other... Pokémon. Is there a Demolingual program I could download?"

The Sigilyph flew over sharply to the Pokédex. ...No?

“I see,” Jonathan deadpanned, sounding disappointed (at the very least). “I really do seem like an imbecile in moments like these…”

He suddenly blinked, and turned to his Sigilyph.

“I finally thought of a possible name for you,” he said, bordering on excitement. “You’ve been curing my stupidity… almost leading me like a lost child. I’d like to thank you for your patience.”

Sigilyph said nothing, but it seemed pleased.

“Is the name Penemue alright with you?”

(Jonathan forgot that Penemue was a fallen angel, a rebellious scribe who gave man too much knowledge. It was almost foreshadowing, really.)

Character
Name: Flynn
Series: Shin Megami Tensei IV
Timeline: Post-Neutral Route Ending
Canon Resource Links: Wiki Page | tvTropes Page

Personality:
The first thing that others would notice about Flynn would be just how quiet he is. He barely says anything, only responding when he is referred to, and even then only using the bare minimum of words to convey his reply. This may lead to some people assuming that he is mute. Most of the time, he seems to be absorbed in his thoughts, being unresponsive to most things occurring around him (unless they require him to take direct action). In most social contexts, he would be the guy who fades into the background, never participating in the discussion. but always watchful and listening out for what others might say. After a while, more extroverted characters may even forget his existence - something that might surprise them once Flynn actually makes a contribution.

His reticence defines much of his character. It is a result of not only his introverted personality and strong conviction, but also his experiences.

Raised as a Casualry (the peasant class) in the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado, he was taught not to expect much of himself other than being studious and hardworking in carrying out his duties. He does not see the need for idle chitchat (it would be some form of wasting time), instead choosing to jump straight into action when it needs to be taken. However, deciding on what said action is may take quite some time, especially if the issue is an ethical one. He prefers to debate over both sides of a situation before making a choice. That being said, after he has made his decision, nothing will sway him from completing what he set out to do.

He has always had a very strong sense of self, and is not easily influenced by others’ opinions. This stems partly from his distrust of others, something that is also reflected in his reluctance to make his own opinion known. He sees it as something that others could potentially use to manipulate him (after what his two friends, Jonathan and Walter, went through), and is adamant not to make the same mistake himself. Thus, he is fiercely independent, and will usually refuse assistance when it is possible. He prefers to travel alone, as he finds that people’s chatter usually interferes with his thoughts. And he would also be expected to somehow talk to them , something he can definitely do without. However, he will not refuse companionship if requested.

Flynn appears to constantly assume a blank expression, devoid of emotion (a poker face basically). He has difficulty expressing his feelings, especially in words. Thus, to others, he appears to be a cold and apathetic person. Which he is, in a way - he does experience emotions, and worry over others, but he does not know how to show it. However, if you watch him very very carefully, you may be able to pick up hints to his current emotions through his body language. The only person who seems to be able to understand him without being a mind-reader is Isabeau. However, he does become more expressive when around his friends, but they number far and few in between (a grand total of five).

He has been through many traumatic events, and his apparent lack of emotion is his way of dealing with them. After seeing his home ravaged and family slaughtered by demons, his best friend turning into one (he had to mercy kill him), two of his remaining friends driven apart by their ideals (and dying for them), along with finally receiving knowledge that he was to be the one deciding the fate of his world - bit by bit, his sanity would have crumbled. So he coped with it by locking all his emotions away - fear, anxiety, and despair - but at the same time, he lost most of his ability to express (and perhaps even feel) positive emotions as well. What little emotions he manages to experience are also locked away deep down inside his psyche. While they do not affect his day-to-day decisions, they have the potential to erupt to the surface once he is confronted with an event he cannot handle.

Thus, he relies almost entirely on logic and his own intuition to make decisions. This may make him seem very heartless at times, especially when it comes to making sacrifices - but it is simply due to experience. He is unafraid to resort to methods that others might shun. In the end, he does make sure that he gets the job done, even if its consequences are unpleasant - he seems to only be truly affected if his actions cause harm to people he cares for.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ conviction | Flynn has exceptional willpower. Once he decides to pursue a course of action, it is very difficult/almost impossible to sway him from what he thinks should be done. It matters not if others think he is coldhearted - only the completion of the task at hand will be considered.

+ strength | Raised to live a life of work, Flynn has considerable physical strength and endurance. His mental strength is also remarkable, as he is able to pull through situations that would traumatize others.

+/- loyalty | He is loyal to the few friends he currently has - though to a certain extent. He is not afraid to cut them down if they oppose what he believes is right. In essence, he is more loyal to his principles than to his fellows.

+/- logical | Flynn functions almost entirely on logic, allowing him to deduce implications and hidden motives faster than average. However, this also leads to him being rather apathetic from someone else’s point of view.

+/- lone wolf | His reclusiveness enables him to work faster, but it also reduces the chances he has for interactions with others (from which he could gain many things).

- emotionless | Due to him locking away most of his emotions, he finds it hard to empathize with others unless they happen to have gone through similar experiences.

- reticence | Flynn almost never speaks, making it hard for others to understand what he truly feels. This also hampers his social interactions.

- distrustful | While he may appear to be amiable towards others (or as much as he can get), Flynn does not trust others easily. For some people (who are quick to put their trust in him), this may seem offensive.

Something was wrong. Terribly so.

This was not Tokyo, that was for sure. Was this the Goddess of Tokyo’s doing? Perhaps so. But it made no sense, if that was to be assumed. Which meant that this assumption was to be discarded, unless new information came to light.

He had remained silent all the way through this… this woman’s attempted introduction. No doubt it unnerved her to some degree, but Flynn did not feel it necessary to assuage any fears she might have. After all, she was definitely not his mother. He knew how his mother would behave. Plus, his mother was already dead.

But he had to admit, their demon summoning program was interesting. Though not efficient - his own stored them as data, not in such unwieldy spherical devices. And they did not have a navigational AI as proficient as Burroughs.

Speaking of Burroughs, he strangely missed her presence. The transportation seemed to have scoured his Gauntlet, leaving no trace of her nor Mido. All his demons were gone, too, as well as his skills and sword. They had been such a vital part of his arsenal that losing them was to leave him exposed. He had to find an alternative, fast. All that worked now was the timer function, the journal function, and the map. Which was not very helpful.

He was given a ‘starter’ demon of sorts. And it could read his mind. On hindsight, it was a good thing. They could hold a conversation without him ever speaking.

To a passerby, they would have seen a youth staring intently at the Ralts next to him.

You will need to tell me many things.

Yes, I understand. The… Pokemon’s voice directly entered his head.

What is your name, then?

Confusion seemed to emanate from the diminutive creature. You don’t want to name me?

Flynn frowned slightly. No. Do you not have a name? Every demon had one. This was strange.

The Ralts paused before answering. I do, but it is used only between Pokemon. I’m willing to drop it for what you give me, though.

He shook his head. I will use your current name, then. Kindly enlighten me.

Very well. I am Ramiel.

Pleasure to make your acquaintance, then. The youth nodded. Now… I have some questions for you.

Character
Name: Nitori Kawashiro
Series: Touhou Project
Timeline: Post-Double Dealing Character (she didn't appear in it, but she'll be aware of the events, thank you newspapers.)
Canon Resource Links: Nitori on Touhouwiki here. From there, you can find just about every canon source about her, including articles in the works of Hieda no Akyuu as well as the scripts of the games/routes she appears in. I should note, however, that some details of Nitori's personality as described in the next section aren't specifically stated on her page on the wiki, but are based on some of her appearances in the games, such as how she doesn't seem to really flee any of her fights in Hopeless Masquerade even when it's just her and the opponent (meaning her shyness might be going away some), or that she's confident enough in Subterranean Animism to invite an oni to come above-ground to drink sometime (meaning that she might be less shy when she's talking remotely, as she was in that game).

Personality:

Nitori Kawashiro is easiest to describe as being something of a geek. While kappa in general are known for their engineering prowess, and Nitori is no exception, she is quite notably known for her diverse arsenal of weaponry and her tendency to keep it -- along with an assortment of tools and even some fuel -- in a backpack upon her back that is evocative of the turtle shell of kappas of old; it could be easily assumed that this peculiarity is what earned her the title of "Super Youkai Warhead" in Gensokyo. However, beyond just being a geek-and-gearhead, she is also known to be a cheerful girl who despite her aforementioned affinity for ordinance is also rather shy if you catch her at the wrong time. In particular, if she is approached the wrong way when she's alone she may be prone to flight due to the surprise, though this facet of her shyness is one that she has been getting better about as of late (as seen in the most recent incident she has gotten involved in, which might be considered her first incident she is personally involved in beyond mere assistance).

When she's not being shy, however, her disposition is (as said) quite cheerful and she will typically be rather passionate about her line of work; this side of her tends to be seen more commonly when she's with friends, when she's talking to someone long-distance -- as with a phone (which kappas do make) or some other device -- or during her occasional ventures into entrepeneurism; kappas will occasionally sell their creations in order to acquire funding, and indeed tend to create devices similar to technology from outside Gensokyo's borders, and not only is Nitori no stranger to this practice, but she once opened a stall to sell her wares during a festival in the aptly-named Human Village (though this did lead to her being roped into the aforementioned 'first incident'), another point in favor of her coming out of her shell as of late (so to speak). Indeed, it is during either such mercantile occasions or whilst she's working on a project that she's most cheerful, especially if it involves either dismantling outside world technology to learn how it works or invention for the sake of it, and it's about such topics that she's most eager to talk about.

However, nobody's perfect, and thus the Super Youkai Warhead is not without her share of vices. Of particular note is that while she's a rather intelligent individual -- it comes with the territory of being a kappa -- she may occasionally fail to realize that some terms and phrases (stated or implied) regarding her line of work might fly over certain peoples' heads and thereby require explanation (e.g., that the 'power of the sun' is nuclear fusion, as opposed to sunburn). Also to be considered is that printed in the latest edition of the works of Hieda no Akyuu is a claim that Nitori has a superiority complex in regards to humans, despite her professing that kappas and humans are friends; due to other somewhat dubious claims by said author (in-canon), this is to be taken with a grain of salt (though it is not quite as bad as the Bunbunmaru sometimes is) . . . though, it would not be a surprise nor a stretch to assume that Nitori (while fascinated with outside-world technology) would be fonder of using kappa-made hardware than she would human-made, with how behind-the-times humans in Gensokyo tend to be in such fields compared to her kin, so perhaps there is some faint glimmer of truth. The only other flaw she has of note is that sometimes she may ask a favor without divulging the full details of what's being asked of a person -- like in Subterranean Animism, wherein she requested the help of consummate incident-solver Marisa Kirisame in exploring the underground of Gensokyo, and did not say until a good while in that it was to acquire the sun's power -- though when it comes to the rewards involved she's quite often honest. Even with these flaws, though, Nitori remains a good kappa, a good friend, and a good teammate.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
PROS
+ Being a kappa, one of Nitori's greatest strengths is her brain; her engineering expertise is greater than that of most humans in Gensokyo.(1)
+ She's loyal to the few friends she's got. (2)
+ As another kappa-like trait she's got, she's an excellent swimmer and can hold her breath for remarkable amounts of time.(3)
+ She can take things apart, put them back together, and in so doing figure out how they work and how to make her own. Takes time and resources though.
+ Has a thirst for knowledge, and the determination needed to get as much of it as she can.

CONS
- (1) Gensokyo is not Johto. While she might have been the Super Youkai Warhead back home, here in Johto she's just a trainer with good engineering know-how, and local tech's Greek.
- (2) Sometimes she might ask slightly-questionable favors of these friends (e.g., Subterranean Animism). Tends to make up for them, though.
- (3) She's not a kappa anymore, and doesn't actually know this (and when she does, may not realize the full ramifications of this). While she might have been top-notch at swimming back home, her abilities are somewhat diminished here.
- However good she may be at working with mechanical devices and similar technologies, when it comes to magic (or, by extension, Psychic power) she's useless.
- Sometimes doesn't realize that not everyone's well-versed with technology, so explanations may be tricky at times. May translate to issues in explaining Gensokyo.

[The audio comes first, a young girl's voice laced with frustration grumbling to herself.]

"C'mon, I totally hit the option it said to--"

[Mutterings of 'worst day ever' and 'if I get my hands on whoever did this' punctuate the darkness before the visuals come in to reveal a face entirely too close to the camera.]

"Aha! Kappa 1, Phone 0!"

[The face pulls back to reveal that it is attached to a young girl with blue hair, light blue clothes, and a green cap, who looks a bit smug before her face takes on a more disgruntled cast.]

"So, if I've got this right this should be going out to this 'PokéConnect' thing; if there's anyone out there listening . . . "

[The girl tugs at her shirt collar as she shifts her gaze over to one side, apparently not too comfortable having this large an audience for what she's about to ask next, clearing her throat once before she asks in a slightly lower voice:]

" . . . does anyone know where I can buy a proper toolkit and how much it would cost? I'm missing all my gadg--err-- tools! Yeah, tools . . . I left my toolkit in my other backpack. At home. Which this isn't."

[A nervous chuckle escapes her throat. No way is she going to admit to everyone out there that she's unarmed -- bad idea or not, it's enough of a blow to her pride as a kappa as it is to openly admit that she lacked her tools.]

"A-anyway, is there anyone else from Gensokyo here? In particular, if anyone's seen a 'Yukari Yakumo', or is Yukari Yakumo, could you contact me? If so, thank you, and if you're Yukari, please get me out of here already, this isn't funny."

[The visual cuts, but the audio only cuts after one more line is said in a worried tone.]

"That vampire is gonna kill me . . . "

Third Person Sample: (NOTE: Nitori's going to be presuming in here that 'PokéGear' is the brand of phone -- and that it's a phone at all, even if she's not entirely wrong considering the functions. Just explaining why she's not calling it by name at all.)

Nitori closed the phone with a mixture of a sigh and a groan. The day was shaping up to be one of those that she was sure had shaped her friend Marisa into the crazy she was; the night before, she'd been sweating about a job at the Scarlet Devil Mansion before bed, but now she was standing outside someone else's house without her backpack (and by extension her tools, her weapons, and even her cucumbers), without the ability to fly (she'd checked, no luck) or control water (though she'd certainly looked stupid trying), and if she was to believe the map in this phone she'd found in the backpack that weird 'mom' character had given her, she was nowhere near Gensokyo. Sure, she'd made half of her message one for other Gensokyo-dwellers (the Most Likely Suspect included), but odds were likely she was the only one here (at least, at the rate things were going she was).

That phone, though . . . ooh boy, if anything in that bag had made her chafe at the lack of tools, it was that phone. As she played with one of the spheres she'd been given -- handed, in fact, along with the backpack rather than kept inside it -- by making it expand and contract (another reason to lament her lack of tools, but for now it made a good distraction from nerves), she noted that this phone was pretty well-made; thin, sleek, two screens -- one that let her work the phone by touch -- and its software was really user-friendly . . . as much as she hated to admit it, it might actually outclass kappa-made models. At least, until she managed to take this one home, if she could make it back; such was her thought processes up to the point where she decided she might try bouncing the ball off of the side of the house (she had 5 more, might as well see how durable it was). The moment the enlarged ball impacted with the wall, it snapped open and a bolt of red light zipped by the surprised kappa's head, prompting Nitori to dash around the corner of the house with a very un-kappa-like squawk.

When she finally mustered up the courage to look around the corner (and her heart had stopped pretending to be a jackhammer) to check if the ball was about to fire any more surprise danmaku, Nitori was met with a rather absurd sight: an iron-looking gizmo consisting of one orb with an eye on its front, two magnets to its sides, and three screws stuck in it . . . that was somehow flying. After a few moments of mutual staring established that whatever-it-was wasn't going to start spamming lasers, Nitori decided to take a leaf out of a certain tengu's book and flipped open her new phone (that she had had a deathgrip on) to take a picture to review later; what she was met with, however, was an app she'd passed over earlier: the Pokédex, which promptly identified her undefined fantastic object as . . .

'Magnemite, the Magnet Pokémon. The units at the sides of its body generate antigravity energy to keep it aloft in the air.'

"What."

This phone, those orbs, this Pokémon -- and no toolkit to examine any of them! As Nitori began to wonder whether she'd gone and made Hina angry lately, the Magnemite decided to take matters into its own, err, screws: as its Trainer watched it from around the corner, it rummaged through her bag for a bit before producing (with some difficulty) a book that she'd passed over earlier in favor of the new tech -- the Trainer's Handbook -- and brought it over to her. To the kappa's credit, she didn't retreat from the orb's advance, took the Handbook from it (rather easily, as it was being very gingerly held between two screws), and began to read it to see why it was so important that the Pokémon had taken the effort to hand it to her without hands. A lot of the terminology within flew past the kappa, but it didn't take much effort to get the gist of it -- this Magnemite was hers, it was a living creature, and she was expected to make it stronger by exploring the world and challenging 'Gyms' to acquire Badges to prove her might. It almost sounded like how 'incidents' were handled back home, and rather uncannily like the last one she was involved in at that, but as much as she wanted to groan at realizing this . . . from what she'd gleaned from this book, she'd be able to see more of this Magnemite's abilities if she did this, as it would learn more 'Moves' as its 'Level' went up.

After some careful deliberation and looking at the map, the Super Youkai Warhead came to a conclusion: she wouldn't know whether or not it would be worth it until she tried, so try she must to see what she could learn from it all. As she returned the Handbook to her bag, closed it up, and put it on -- lighter than she was used to nowadays, but somehow nostalgic now that she thought about it -- Nitori allowed herself a bit of a crooked grin; perhaps this day wouldn't be so bad, after all . . . even if it was the start of her second incident.

Character
Name: Yukio Okumura
Series: Ao no Exorcist
Timeline:Pre-canon, anime. The night before episode 1
Canon Resource Links:
His link is as special as his brother’s

Personality: One could consider Yukio a boy with two facets to him. His mood and manner can change depending on the situation. The most we see of him is a boy clearly above his age. He has been referred to as a genius and rightly so. At 7, he started training as an exorcist and had finally finished his training to become an instructor by the time his brother had just entered his first year of highschool thus making him the youngest exorcist ever to earn the position. Then there’s the fact that he managed to nab the top score in True Cross Academy’s entrance exams. Clearly, Yukio isn’t the sort to take any form of study for granted. As both a student and a teacher, he can be quite stern and throw his focus wholeheartedly into whatever he’s doing. He’s the sort who thrives on perfection, 80% from himself and 20% from his students. Yukio isn’t by any means extremely strict but his strictness comes through when it comes to weeding out the slackers. Unfortunately, his brother seems to be the brunt of his scolding. Yukio puts business before pleasure and has a certain amount of discipline when it comes to these things. It isn’t beneath him to deny himself a chance to enjoy the school festival because he was on shift at that moment. There’s always something that needs to be done, always something that’s more important than his personal wants and needs.

Strictness within himself is a different matter and on a completely different level entirely. Yukio can be quite hard on himself, this being a bi-product of his own perfectionism. Certain expectations have to be met after all when one is a labelled as a genius and he isn’t the kind to let other people down. One mistake can be taken quite harshly and he can dwell on his mistakes which can be a bit of a liability. But it isn’t to say he does so for no reason. He learns from them. However, he doesn’t let his reputation get to his head. Yukio retains a measure of modesty and doesn’t quite take compliments well. These are either brushed aside, explained away or shyly accepted. One can also consider Yukio as a victim of self-hate. He seems to resent his former weakness. As a child, he was quite stereotypically weak. He cried a lot, he was bullied, he got beaten up and it was occasionally up to his big brother to protect him. However, once he started receiving training from Shiro Fujimoto, he threw himself into his work and swore to become stronger to protect Rin. He doesn’t allow himself to show weakness of any sort. After all, no exorcist should show any psychological weakness lest they become target of demons for possession. This causes Yukio to lock his emotions away and give him a somewhat standoffish, aloof demeanour.

At some point one can tend to forget that deep down inside, Yukio is actually a teenage boy. One who has forgotten how to be one, by the looks of things. He flusters when complimented, especially by his female classmates, he has his own classes and homework to worry about, he likes manga, he argues with his brother. All in all, normal things every teenage boy undergoes. He seems to cope with these things easily enough but there’s still the underlying thought that part of him kind of forgot how. His relationships with people outside the militaristic Order of the True Cross are barely existent. Even with his students, he doesn’t present himself as a very sociable creature even if he is their age. He can easily strike one as the quiet sort who sits in the corner, performs well in class, not at all unpleasant to talk to but doesn’t seem to make many friends. He just wants a quiet life, away from the spotlight and with as little problems as humanely possible.

And then we have Rin.

Despite being the younger brother, Yukio finds it his responsibility to shepherd his younger brother. They rarely get along as well as they did when they were children and hardly see eye to eye when it comes to dealing with demons. Yukio can be rather ruthless in this respect and prefers whipping out his guns as opposed to Rin’s method of eventually talking it out or finding some alternate way to deal with a demon who isn’t outright hostile. He keeps his brother in line half because that was what the Church orders him to do and half because he figures this is the best way to keep him safe. This would be exactly what Yukio’s driving force is: to protect his brother. He has quite a feeling of gratitude toward his brother and does things to protect him. He became an exorcist to grow stronger for this exact reason, even if Rin doesn’t seem to know what the best thing for him is. In his opinion, Rin is too complacent and it’s up to him to make sure his brother doesn’t get in over his head. Despite this, Yukio has a measure of jealousy for his twin. Perhaps Rin had it easier than him. He had to work for everything but his brother seemed to have to just have it handed to him on a platter. You can say that the twins have a very strained, very complicated relationship. Then again, most his relationships do indeed have the same measure of complexity. Though Yukio isn't the most social creature, there are those he has gotten to know in the business. There's Shiemi Moriyama who is the daughter of the Exorcist Supply Store owner who he's been in constant contact with ever since he was in training. Shiemi is a shy girl, possibly one of Yukio's most optimistic acquaintances. They seem to have the most normal relationship, someone Yukio could possibly actually consider a friend. On the other hand, there's also Shura Kirigakure who he seems to share an odd sort of rivalry with. Shura doesn't hold her tongue, throwing teasing insults Yukio's way and calling him things like "scaredy cat" and "moley four eyes". Shura seems to be the one who can get under his skin the most and odd as it is, he lets her. As a child, Shura's carefree manner and seemingly effortless way of beating him in training sessions irked him the most. The teasing certainly doesn't help. Maybe you can call these two friends. Friends are quite a rare thing for the boy to have, it seems and despite the description that's what they seem to be. However, if you would want to pinpoint the most positive influence, the one being who changed Yukio's life it would most definitely have to be Father Shiro Fujimoto. Shiro is a priest who served as an exorcist in the order of the True Cross. He adopted both boys and was the one responsible for Yukio's training as an exorcist. If it wasn't for Shiro, doubtless that Yukio's life would be vastly different. He has plenty of respect for the priest, both as his surrogate father and as "the greatest Paladin that had ever lived". Shiro was father, mentor and hero figure to Yukio growing up and until the moment of his death.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

STRENGTHS:
-he’s a genius, suffice to say. At the young age of 15, Yukio managed to secure a double meister as a Dragoon and a Doctor as well as the rank of first class exorcist
-an excellent shot. Comes with the Dragoon meister
-knowledge of most herbs and medicines, is quite skilled in the medical field
-Pretty physically fit. Comes with being an exorcist

WEAKNESSES:
-the self loathing and perfectionism can get to him
-he does have a temper when provoked. Not as bad as Rin’s though.
-has poor eyesight
-Emotionally constipated seems to be a thing
-fears failure and inability to protect his brother

[ This video feed is punctuated by the sound of crying. Loud crying. The screen vibrates as its picked up to show Yukio in what seems to be a mix of confusion and desperation. He’s resorted to raising his voice to try and speak over the crying. ]

I’m sorry for the noise. My name is Yukio Okumura. My Happiny and I were travelling from Pewter City to Cerulean when she suddenly started crying

I think it’s because she lost her rock. It’s round and kind of egg-like.

If anyone sees one on their way, I’d be grateful if we could have it back or if anyone knows where I can get one I’d like to know where, too. We can meet in Cerulean City if you find it. Thanks and sorry for the bother.

[ At that, the feed stops and you are finally spared from the wailing. ]

Third Person Sample:

It was looking to be a long journey through the mountains ahead of them. Before they left Pewter City en route to Mt. Moon, Yukio had been sure to pack enough potions and enough food lest it was a longer journey than what he and Airi had expected. What he hadn’t counted on however was the Happiny suddenly bursting into tears at their first rest stop. At first it was a quiet sniffling and somehow managed to escalate itself into outright bawling. “Airi?” the boy asked, getting up from where he sat. “What’s the matter?” The Happiny had always been the rather enthusiastic sort. Surely, she would be able to motion to whatever she needed. He crouched down to her eye level where she had slumped down and started bawling. With a small frown, he picked her up and looked her over this way and that. No scratches from their earlier encounter with a Geodude. No bruises or bumps from where she stumbled a few moments ago. He arms and feet seemed fine in the very least. In a moment of desperation, he turns to the Pokedex.

It carefully carries a round, white rock that it thinks is an egg. It's bothered by how curly its hair looks.

A round white rock. A round white lock that it thinks is an egg. Of course.

One quick glance to her pouch confirmed what he thought: that rock was nowhere to be found. There was no smooth round rock anywhere in their campsite. As far as he knew, it could be anywhere. Was this something he could find somewhere on Mt. Moon? Could it be bought in stores? Where does one find a rock to soothe a crying Happiny? With a ruffle of his hair, he turns his attention to his Pokegear. If she had lost it anywhere on the road, maybe someone had chanced upon it already.

Character
Name: Natsuki Shinomiya
Series: Uta no Prince-sama
Timeline: Maji LOVE 2000%, pre-episode 7
Canon Resource Links: Utapri wiki

Personality:
With a head of blond curled hair, a kind-looking bespectacled face and perfected talent for singing as well as playing the viola, Natsuki looks exactly like idol potential, which makes it of no surprise to his presence in the all-male idol group known as STARISH. As ridiculous as it sounds, this is exactly how Natsuki had intended his life to go, and he cherishes his career as an idol as it allows him to sing the heartfelt songs arranged by the group's composer, Nanami Haruka. Natsuki intensely adores Haruka, mostly due to the fact that she is small, cute, and has some sort of resemblance to a family dog named Elizabeth. Generally speaking, Natsuki himself loves anything cute, embracing them with warm arms and offering them adorable and suitable nicknames, such as calling Haruka "Haru-chan" or even referring to one of the other members of the group as "Syo-chan" ("-chan" is a Japanese honorific typically used by girls or in reference to girls' names), even though Syo happens to be very much male. Natsuki is so blinded by his love for cute things that it makes him appear very childish and... admittedly stupid, because you really have to wonder how a professional teenage idol can go around giving other men nicknames and hugging them hard enough to crush them because of how gosh darn cute they are. Natsuki cares very little for the way he acts though, mostly because he happens to be a little air-headed, but he genuinely doesn't place much value or importance in acting his age or intending to impress others. He has kind of a very youthful and energetic attitude, though occasionally having the air of an adult, especially when it comes to work or consoling his friends. However, more often than not, Natsuki treats other with a friendly demeanor and a willingness to get to know others and treat them with a large amount of openness, just like a child would. He is as genuine as a person as he wishes to be, and while admirable, it does get him into trouble sometimes.

Just like a child doesn't tend to understand its limits, Natsuki doesn't exactly know when to stop acting on his own desires and impulses and listen to others, specifically, how they'd like to be treated. Natsuki doesn't have a lot of restraint, so oftentimes his antics can be met with a lot of irritation, or he might even upset people, maybe even cause them a minor bit of harm. Though he loves cute things immensely, sometimes it's to a degree in which you'd imagine a kid with a stuffed animal would act, dragging it around by the arm and throwing it about excitedly, getting it scuffed up and losing a button or eye on accident. This is exactly the relationship Natsuki has with Syo, to the point where he subjects him to trying out his terrible cooking and chasing him around while the other yells and complains. Natsuki doesn't intend to hurt anyone, but he has a lot of uncontained energy and doesn't really know how to be a calm and composed mature adult a large portion of the time.

Because of how openly loving and caring Natsuki is, it can be very easy to take advantage of his compassion, and not only that, it makes him pretty weak to the emotions and persuasions of others. This was unfortunately a harsh lesson he learned when he was a child, having fallen in love with a teacher of his only to come out of it in heartbreak. Because of this trauma, Natsuki gained a split-personality, even an alter-ego of sorts, referred to as "Satsuki". Satsuki only appears when Natsuki's glasses are removed, and he has an immense amount of strength and anger in him, causing him to pick fights and confrontations. This isn't entirely because Satsuki just wants to cause trouble, but because he intends to protect Natsuki from anymore pain. It broke Natsuki's heart when the teacher he liked took advantage of him, and so in order to avoid that sort of pain once again, Satsuki took form. Natsuki himself is a far-too gentle and almost passive person when it comes down to it, and he lacks a lot of the potential to protect himself emotionally, which is exactly what Satsuki intends to do with how violent and harsh he acts with anyone that interacts with him. It's only until his glasses are placed back onto his face that Natsuki regains control of himself, but with little memory of what he's done as Satsuki, almost like the whole thing was a dream.

Natsuki faces a lot that makes it just a little difficult for him to manage friendships without accidentally breaking them, what with his rambunctious nature and his alternate personality. Thankfully, growing closer to his fellow idols and especially Haruka herself has shown not just himself but Satsuki as well that he still has the potential to trust others, even love again, without the danger of negative consequences. He can in fact make and keep friends, he just needs to not lose them by feeding them sickeningly bad cookies.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
[ + ] Natsuki has a lot of talent and ambition, and while he doesn't act very serious about things, he does have the drive to do things that he loves with as much effort that he's capable of.
[ + ] He's incredibly caring and sympathetic, as well as adoring of others. If he trusts you, and especially if you're small and cute, Natsuki is bound to be a very reliable and loving friend... just a tad bit on the smothering side though.

[ - ] Natsuki is kind of very oblivious to how he treats others. If he annoys or bothers you, he probably won't notice, especially if he becomes attached to you. This means you're in for a lot of torment.
[ - ] If you like personal space, then too bad, because Natsuki doesn't know what this is. He has the potential to annoy a lot of people because he's a very physically affectionate person at times.
[ - ] Do not eat his cooking. It's god-awful and could get you in the hospital. Ironically enough, Natsuki loves to cook.
[ - ] A large chunk of Natsuki's weakness is Satsuki, who pretty much exists in order to protect Natsuki because he doesn't have the capability to protect himself.

First Person Sample:
Good morning everyone! [Natsuki's face appears right on the screen, wide-awake and as cheerful as usual even though it's only around 8am. Too bad, he's awake, and everyone else should be too, especially with the wonderful "gift" he has to offer.] It took a while longer than I had expected, but I'm in Goldenrod now, and so I decided that since I had a little bit of extra money, I would practice my cooking! If anyone would like some free mini pancakes, I'm near the Flower Shop, since I thought a nice breakfast near the flowers would be perfect! Momo even helped me too, so we both appreciate taste testers. Right, Momo?

[The screen of the PokeGear is tilted down to show a very happy Audino, adorned in a small lavender apron that just about matches the one Natsuki is wearing (though somehow with far less frills) and looking just as happy as Natsuki. Now whether or not anything from the flower shop was accidentally included in his pancakes... that remains a mystery. (Spoilers: there are ingredients in there that don't belong there. It's what happens when you include a Pokemon who can't read with an idol who sucks at cooking.]

Haru-chan, whenever we see each other, I can bake you some pancakes too! Jinguji and Hijirikawa, you're both invited too!

Third Person Sample:
"I don't think I've ever had to walk this much in my life," Natsuki said tiredly as he plopped himself down on a nearby rock large enough to substitute as a seat, and he stretched his arms high up into the air before letting out an exhausted sigh. He'd finally managed to make it near the exit of Ilex Forest, but even though he was more than ready to leave the dreary place, a quick rest sounded like a good idea, otherwise he was sure that he'd just collapse as soon as he got out of the forest. With a quick glance around the dark area filled with nothing but grass and trees, Natsuki almost shivered, wrapping his arms close around himself.

"This place is so scary and dark. I wonder why they don't put lamp posts in this forest? I'm sure it'd make walking through here a lot easier. Or they could have a guide. That would be even better! I'm sure I would have gotten lost if it wasn't for my map."

Speaking of his map, Natsuki reached into his pocket to pull out his PokeGear, checking up on the directions he was meant to take and noticing that he only had probably about twenty more minutes to walk before he could leave the forest and head toward the same route. During his silence though, he felt a brief tug on his pant leg, and Natsuki stared down into the worried eyes of his Audino.

"It's okay Momo, don't be afraid, we're almost back outside! I'm sure you want to be able to see the sun again," he said reassuringly as he reached down to pat Audino on the head, causing the Pokemon to immediately smile. Even in such a depressing forest surrounded by bugs, she still looked so bright and peach-colored and positive, which always helped to cheer Natsuki up. It was why he'd been able to make the trek through the forest in the first place.

"Aah, Momo, you're just so cute. I'm glad I have you with me!" Without warning, Natsuki reached down to scoop Audino up into his arms for a big hug, and Audino gladly returned it. What a lucky friend Natsuki had, and so adorable too. He couldn't wait to get out of that forest and catch even more cute Pokemon!

Character
Name:Larxene
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Timeline: Post-Chain of Memories
Canon Resource Links: Here

Personality: Larxene is one of the more interesting types of the Organization, seeming to enjoy her job and all the pain and heartbreak she causes to the people around her. She is undoubtedly a vicious and callous human being, especially with the lack of a heart to speak of. She toys with people with an almost child-like glee, enjoying to see their reactions before taking them out. That seems to be her style when it comes to most things, toy and enjoy it while she can and when the prey is unwitting, take them out with one fell swoop. This is seen quite a lot in the way she acts around canonmates, tending to find them as nothing but bothers unless they catch her attention (Axel) or are used to make things interesting or use her power (Marluxia).
As with some of the other Organization members there is the possibility of her having had another side to her when she was a complete being, but she seems to not care about actually regaining her heart in any capacity. In fact, in the Chain of Memories manga when she’s told their main goal is to get their hearts back, she says in a rather sad tone that hearts cause nothing but pain. It’s speculated that she had a lot of emotional troubles as a human, but there’s been nothing to confirm whether or not that’s true or not.

Going back to her attitude at large, Larxene seems to take actual sadistic glee in the harm she does to others. This seemingly confirmed when in the manga she’s seen reading a book by the Mariqus de Sade who is considered the person where the term sadisim comes from. One would think there’s some sort of redeeming sight to her, that she’s a misunderstood person who really just wants attention but that really is the exact opposite of what she is. Larxene doesn’t want pity, does want anyone to go easy on her, she lives for the fight, whether physical or emotional.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Being from a world that has magic, it’s pretty easy to assume that Larxene has some sort of capability of it. However, she’s only ever been seen using electrical-based attacks, able to charge and wield the element for her purposes and seemingly mostly immune to them. She’s also a very good and accurate shot with projectiles, seen while using her kunai.

As for her personality, Larxene is pretty much a fearless being. She has the fortitude to not see anyone as a challenge, making everyone around her her playthings unless they prove to be of some worth. Anyone she deems not worthy are quickly taunted, tormented, and overall fought with in order to wipe them from her memory or from existence to begin with.

She also has seemingly no capability of compassion, sticking to being overall a sadistic person that would much rather see someone suffer than to help them out. This even extends to her “allies”, which is a tenuous term at best with her.

First Person Sample: [Excuse you, Pokegear, you are going to work properly and you are going to show the picture of the poor Shinx that is currently pinned down to the ground via a black heeled boot. The view shifts up to show Larxene’s face, looking very unamused by this whole situation. Clearing her throat she puts on a smile that can only be described as mocking and trying not to kill someone or something in the next few seconds.]

Someone care to let me in on the joke about this little… disgustingly cute creature not leaving me alone? I don’t need it, nor do I want it. It’s not even strong enough to put up a fight, how pathetic of it.

[The Shinx on the other hand is wriggling underneath her boot, yet not seeming to be upset at the situation. It just wants her love, that’s all it’s asking for! Even if Larxene is, quite frankly, the worst person to end up the partner of.

Clicking her tongue in disgust she finally lets the creature up, propping herself up against a nearby tree.]

Stupid creature doesn’t seem to understand simple words, I’ve seen rocks smarter than this thing.

Third Person Sample: The music, this world, the colors, it was all beginning to grate on her nerves within the first three minutes. The Shinx following behind her is mostly ignored, Larxene already having put the little creature beneath her boot only to have it keep following her once she got out that she did not want it. The little thing just would not leave her alone no matter what she did, it was a bother at the very least.

Clenching her gloved hands together she purses her lips, looking at the route that lies ahead with a wary expression on her face. This world was… weird, it wouldn’t be the first time she’d been to a world with obnoxious little animals running around but the combination of them and people was a bit unusual. Especially since, according to her “mom” these creatures were meant to be some sort of partner. No, no she wouldn’t accept this pathetic tiny lion as her companion or partner, it was a disgrace to her. Unable to defend itself other than to flail and make wild noises at her.

But, unfortunately, she couldn't seem to get rid of the disgusting little thing. Each time attempted ending up with the creature catching up to her in some odd manner. So, for now, it could trail along, but like hell if she was going to acknowledge it. No, if it wanted that then it’d have to earn her brief moments of compassion. If the creature could fight, then so be it, if it could use electricity then even better. For now, however, it was merely proving an annoyance and adding to her hatred and detest of this world already. Being without her electricity, without her kunai, it wasn't unnerving as she could still fight. But, well, it certainly wasn't what she wanted.

Character
Name: Luxord
Series: Kingdom Hearts series
Timeline: Post-KH 2
Canon Resource Links: Links explaining Luxord and Organization 13.

Personality: Member number 10 of Organization 13, Luxord is known as the Gambler of Fate and it's not just because of his fancy card tricks. At his very core, Luxord is a man who views life as a whole, big game. And with his mastery over time magic, he's sure that he'll have all the time in existence to win it. This philosophy of his makes him confident in his abilities and allows him to make bold and daring actions that might seem reckless to some, but are actually strategic moves carefully calculated and weighed against the odds. His confidence is rightly earned; like all professional gamblers, Luxord applies both careful planning and luck to win his games. He's got no problem facing off against the Keyblade Master and co alone at Port Royal after having his first batch of Nobodies destroyed, because he calculated that he could use the pirate code of parlay to provide not only a distraction for his escape, but a decoy as well while he made off with the real reason for his attack on Port Royal.

Luxord's also quite a smooth talker. There's no denying the guy's got something of a silver tongue what with all the flowery language and metaphors in his speech. It's all part of his charm though because for how...dramatic he can get, Luxord's one of the more pleasant members of Organization 13, engaging his colleagues in card games and taking somewhat of an interest in the two younger Nobodies. The line between interest and concern is very blur but Luxord has demonstrated something of a friendly nature with his fellow Nobodies. He takes on something of an eccentric uncle role to Roxas during the latter's Wonderland missions, providing advice and support when necessary. And he has engaged in card games with the other members of the group as well. Again, whether it's because he actually feels something akin to friendship is debatable or if he's really simply just bored and looking for something to catch his interest, but there's no denying that upon his death in Kingdom Hearts 2, he was rather taken aback, almost betrayed, by the fact that it was in some way Roxas who dealt him his death blow. It's a contrast to his previous conversations where he displays a rather cool and uncaring personality, if still suave and carefree.

The fact remains that once the chips are down and the stakes are up, Luxord really just cares about his own well-being more than anyone else's. Sure he can be a nice chap to have a game or two with, but there's no safe bet that he'd still be on your side if you end up in the way of his goals. Luxord's drive to win can make him very selfish; he's not adverse to giving a hand every now and then but only so long as it doesn't disadvantage him. For all his fondness over children he's quite comfortable with killing Sora to achieve the Organization's goals nor does he step in to help when Xion's true nature is revealed; unlike Roxas and later Axel who were both willing to defect and put their lives on the lines for their friends, Luxord prefers to hang back and watch, unwilling to place his own goal at stake.

Luxord may not be able to feel anything, but one thing he cannot abide by is boredom. Any lull in the game called "Life" is undesirable, and Luxord's quite willing to spice things up a little if it'll provide him some entertainment. Whether it's provoking a little argument between his fellow Nobodies or taking Sora on one-on-one, Luxord's willingness to put even his existence on the line for the sake of some excitement is a testimony to both his title as The Gambler of Fate and his dislike of monotony.

It takes a good control of emotions and patience to be a good gambler. While Luxord has a distinct lack of the former by his very nature as a Nobody, he's definitely got heaps of the latter. Luxord plays the role of a strategist quite well; his plans are mostly long-term ones which require a good deal of patience to succeed. With time magic being his preferred branch of magic, it's not any surprise that his entry in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 states:

"Life, to him, is just a game to be won... and he has all the time in the world to do it."

Betting his chips on Xemnas's plans for Kingdom Hearts, Luxord was willing to go along with Xemnas's sometimes convoluted and long-winded plans so long as it translated to a high pay-off at the end. No matter how long it'd take, Luxord would stick to his game plan.

As life is but a game to him, Luxord recognizes that just like in games there are those who must play the role of pawns. And he is quite aware that he is one of them. Number 10 signifies that he is one of the last few members of Organization 13 and he recognizes that in terms of hierarchy he's pretty low on the list. But if the rules of the game requires pawns, then he's quite willing to play the role fate assigned to him. The Gambler of Fate himself recognizes the power of Fate; he accepts the cards he's drawn, but he'll play them to the best of his ability. He gets that he started out with a bad hand, is resigned to the fact even, but he chooses to make the best of his situation and play the game as best as he can.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths
Minusing all the magical and physical abilities that come with Kingdom Hearts, Luxord's strengths include:
1. A calm head. He's not going to make any decision on impulse. Luxord will consider the odds carefully before he carries out any of his moves. And like in gambling, sometimes you just happen to be unlucky enough to draw a bad hand. Rather than just throw in the towel Luxord's calm enough to view his position objectively, enabling him to make game-chaging decisions even with terrible cards.
2. Patience. There's no point rushing into decisions if it's going to result in a loss. Luxord's willing to take tiny set-backs, but he always has his eyes on the end goal and he's willing to patiently wait for the right time to ensure victory.
3. Social. Luxord gets along well enough with Axel, Xigbar and Roxas, and he can be pleasant when approached.
4. Opportunistic. No matter the situation Luxord will find a way to work it in his favor even if his position is an undesirable one.

Weaknesses
1. Heartless; in the sense that he's quite selfish and can be ruthless if needed. Luxord loves winning so much that he's willing to kill for it.
2. Uncaring. Luxord can be nice to talk to but he does not empathize very well with others. He doesn't feel anything when his fellow Organization members are killed one by one and converses in a matter-of-fact manner about it.

It's getting boring lately, hasn't it? I would've thought a world filled with such colorful creatures could offer me some amusement but there's just too much that's predictable. Too routine. I suppose as matters stand this world is rather quaint but I'd prefer to have some elements of risk at play, just for the sake of a little variability.

So for the sake of keeping things fresh, let's have a spin on the usual questions posed on this network. Enough of evolutions, clumsy introductions and expostulations. Let's focus on something fun.

What would you do to win a game? Whether it's a simple night of cards, or the biggest gamble of your life. And for a twist, if you are one of the unfortunate few who have had your life's flame extinguished before receiving fate's reprieve here, if you were given the option of selecting a point in time to return to, would you choose to return from whence you came and change your fate? Knowing what comes next only begs the question of what comes after, and whether it can be any better than what we enjoy here...that's a risk you'll have to take, isn't it?

Third Person Sample:

Luxord watches his opponent, careful to keep up the front of serenity and calmness. Never mind that he has a terrible hand; the cards you're dealt are only one part of the recipe required for victory. You could even say that in the grand scheme of things, drawing a good hand is rather inconsequential. It's how you play it, and play your opponent, that's how you win the game. And Luxord's definitely the one in control.

It's no surprise to him when his opponent reluctantly folds and fails to call his bluff. Luxord spares him the embarrassment of knowing exactly how poor the cards he had were; a simple sleight of hand to swap the two with a King hidden in his sleeve is enough to ease the man's humiliation and give him the fake impression of making the right call. It'd just be simpler for Luxord to trick him again in the future.

No, what surprises him as he packs the cards up and prepares to call it a night, is the singular beat that resounds in his chest. A drum that had long remained silent, still and dead until he resurfaced into this world.

Occasionally when he's by himself, he has to check if it's really there. His heart, beating along with every step he makes. And some nights he just lays there on his bed in the silence, content to feel and enjoy the sensation of a heart beat. It's familiar, yet foreign, old, yet new. For a man who loves uncertainty and the excitement it brings, there's something soothing about the dull, constant beat in his chest.

Being in a strange new world is old hat to him by now; he's done enough world travel to learn how to quickly assimilate with the local population. But now that he's got his heart back...that's the end game, isn't it? He's won, by some fluke he's done it. But now he's left without a goal; mastering this world and all its creatures was an idea he quickly discarded for its monotony, after all it was merely training the creatures, and he did not really have the time for that. Or rather, he didn't want to waste his time. Seeing the world is something he's doing on his leisure, but soon enough he'll have marked every city and town on his map.

With an exaggerated sigh, he flops back on the coach and pulls out his Pokegear. A long-term destination was missing, but perhaps he could fill the void for the time being by engaging with some of the other travelers through the Network. After all, he's got all the time in the world to figure out what he's going to do now that he's got his heart back.

Character
Name: Rin Matsuoka
Series: Free! Iwatobi Swim Club
Timeline: Post-canon
Canon Resource Links:
- A wiki article on Rin specifically
- A summary of High☆Speed!
-
Episode summaries
- Drama CD translations: one, two.

Personality:

First, I’d suggest some nice background music as you read the rest of this application.

Rin as he is presented in High☆Speed! seems to be a very different person from how he acts in Free! -- as a child, he was very cheerful and rather charming. He actively reached out to other people and highly valued his relationships. He was the type of friend who is sensitive to others’ needs, but also wants to challenge them and improve together. Although he wasn’t the protagonist of the story, it was Rin that brought the main characters together and encouraged them to swim a medley relay together. On his memory block, he wrote: “For the team”, a reflection of how deeply he believed in working with and trusting in others. Generally optimistic about things, he had a lot of idealistic, romantic thoughts on how the world works and a lot of dreams for his future. In short, he was a very open person: he wore his heart on his sleeve, and it was never really a mystery what he was thinking.

Between the end of the light novel and the beginning of the anime, Rin went to swimming school in Australia. His experience there causes a lot of profound changes in his personality: alone in an unfamiliar country, he hit a wall in his swimming and began to think that his dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer was just that -- a dream. It was a double blow to his psyche, because his father died when he was young and he’d been inspired by his father’s dream to become an Olympic swimmer, wanting to fulfill his father’s dream for him. It is implied in the anime that what really caused him to change, though, is that he was lonely there. The young boy who had valued his friends so highly was put in an environment where he didn’t have them anymore, and that loneliness sucked the love of swimming out of him. When he returned to Japan over one of his school breaks and raced Haruka -- one of his friends who had swam the relay with him, and whose talent he’d admired -- he lost, and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.. The rest went downhill from there.

When the main characters meet with him again four years later, he’d changed drastically. He pushed other people away and tried to isolate himself, believing that he had “ruined himself” by involving himself too much with other people -- he feared that his memories of the relay he’d swam with his friends in elementary school would always overshadow anything he could accomplish by himself. He became very angry and bitter and generally very difficult to be around because he made it very clear that he didn’t want to be around others to begin with. Deeply insecure, he measured his self-worth in terms of achievement, and attempted to cover up that insecurity by putting on a mask of arrogance. Yet, he found that achievement -- finally beating Haruka in a race -- doesn’t bring him the happiness that he thought it would. Things spiral downward to the point where he became extremely self-destructive, behaving in a way that really made him his own worst enemy.

And there are aspects of his personality that remained constant throughout. Rin is a hard worker, somebody who achieves through dedication and values effort over natural talent. He has a tendency to be single-minded in his goals -- both as a child and as a teenager, he chooses to focus on winning one single event in the tournaments he participates in, even though it’s mentioned by other characters that he has the ability to qualify for multiple events. Rin has always been a very emotional person, too -- it’s always easy to tell what he’s feeling, and his feelings strongly influence his actions. And even at his worst, he’s still got his soft spots: he takes care of abandoned cats and has a lot of genuine love and affection for his family. Even when he’s trying to push his old friends away, he still occasionally betrays the fact that he cares about them: for example, when he hears they went to do training in the ocean, he asks if Makoto (who he knows to be scared of the ocean) is really okay with that. His roommate basically says that Rin looks and acts like a jerk, but underneath it all, he’s still a good person.

At the climax of the anime, though, Rin rediscovered his passion for swimming because of his friends reaching out to him. When he finally allowed himself to start trusting in his friends again, he began to change for the better, moving closer towards his personality from when he was a child. Measuring exactly where his current personality lies is, admittedly, rather difficult to gauge because of how much change in it happens at the very last episode. However, he’s clearly seen to be a happier person, more open and willing to reach out to others. He’s regained some of his idealism, vowing to work towards achieving his own dreams. He’s still competitive, though, and more easily irritated than he was as a child. He’s somewhere in the medium between those two points, sometimes tending more towards one side than the other depending on the situation.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ He’s a very determined person! He works hard for the things that he cares about.
+ Rin is in really, really good shape. He went to an international swimming school, and it shows. Besides that, he also runs regularly.
+ Book smart! He ranks in the top 10 for every subject at his school.

+/- Rin is one of those people it’s easy to make acquaintances with, but hard to make a true friendship with. Even the person he’s closest to in his school says that Rin is very different around his elementary school friends when compared to the new friends he’s made.

- He probably finds it difficult to adjust to unfamiliar situations. Moving to Australia was traumatic for him because he couldn’t get used to it -- for somebody who used to thrive off of making friends with other people, his inability to cope with the change causes a lot of difficulty for him, which in turn caused a lot of the negative changes in his personality.
- He can’t separate his rationality from his emotions sometimes, so his behavior can sometimes come off as erratic because of it.
- He has a temper and when it blows, it blows.

[ The video shows Rin and his new partner, a Carvanha. There’s some good news and some bad news regarding Rin’s current state of attire. One is that he managed to grab his team jacket before turning up in Johto, so he at least has something other than his swimsuit keeping him decent. The other is that, well. He doesn’t have a shirt on.

Which one of those is good and which is bad is, of course, completely subjective. ]

Okay, before I ask anything else, I have to know at least this much. Where in this place is there a pool? And where can I buy a change of clothes?

[ The joys of being a Swimmer class: he literally has no underwear. ]

… And are fish supposed to be able to breathe out of water here?

[ Because he’s starting to feel a little concerned about how long his new baby shark friend has been on land, but it doesn’t seem to care, so… ]

Third Person Sample:

Rin gets challenged to his first Trainer battle about five steps out of New Bark Town and nearly loses to a Hoppip, only narrowly coming out on top and leaving his Carvanha in bad shape. “I can’t believe this,” he mutters as he waits in the Pokémon Center for it to be treated. “The thing looked like a floating radish. How could it be so difficult to beat?”

“Please don’t be worried. Many beginning Trainers have these kinds of difficulties,” the nurse says. “Pokémon battles are more complex than they seem. As you should know, your Carvanha is a Water-type, so if the opponent were a Grass-type, you would have a hard time --”

“A what?” he interrupts, but the nurse keeps going on without acknowledging his interjection. He sighs sharply and waits for her to finish.

“-- but I’m only a nurse. I wouldn’t know much about training, personally! But if you have a Trainer Handbook, then I would suggest making use of it,” she says. “Your Pokémon will be returned to you shortly, please wait until then.”

Finally, she turns and walks away, taking the Poké Ball with his Carvanha in it. Even though it’s only been a few hours since they’d met, Rin feels a slight twinge of guilt over this whole thing -- the thing had obviously just been trying to protect him. And from the sounds of it, the reason it had gotten hurt so badly was because he didn’t understand how battling and taking care of Pokémon works.

There’s a moment of hesitation before Rin reaches into his backpack, taking out the book that he’d initially ignored. With a sigh, he cracks the binding on his handbook and flips to the introduction. “I guess it couldn’t hurt,” he mutters to himself as he begins reading.

Name: Luke Triton
Series: Professor Layton
Timeline: The end of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Canon Resource Links:
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Personality:

Luke is generally very kind and sweet to other people, as he sees it as part of becoming a gentleman. From time to time, he has the tendency of being cheeky, especially towards a person he sees as rude. He usually speaks his mind freely, which sometimes gets him scolded by Layton. He also has a tendency of acting before thinking, especially if he‘s suspicious of someone, such as when he tried to attack Inspector Chelmey thinking that he was the evil Don Paolo in disguise. Despite his brashness, he always tries to help someone if they need it.

Luke idolizes Professor Layton, to the point that it was he who made himself Layton’s apprentice, not the Professor. He tries hard to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, sometimes even mimicking his actions (pointing like Layton does when Layton isn‘t around). Also, he takes his role as an apprentice very seriously, even becoming defensive if someone questions his apprenticeship. Luke tends to be very curious about the world around him. The boy is very inquisitive and is always asking questions. Much like his mentor, he also shares Layton’s love for puzzles, but not to the extreme that Layton does.

Like most kids his age, Luke tends to have an overactive imagination. He gets scared by things like ghosts and vampires, and depending on the environment he‘s in, he‘ll be more jumpy and easily startled. He’s also a little naïve, especially about adult matters. Unlike the Professor, he lets his emotions show more often. He’ll lose his temper or become easily shocked by something. Or if something angers him, he'll let it show, even calling someone out on their actions if he doesn't approve of them. Sometimes, he’ll even give in to certain child-like temptations, like jumping on cushions of trains.

He loves animals, and has the ability to communicate with them. If he sees an animal, he’ll usually stop whatever he’s doing to greet it. Whether or not the animal reacts kindly to him is a different matter, because sometimes the animal will lash out at him no matter how nice he is to it. Nonetheless, he’ll always try to reach out to an animal that needs help.

Since Unwound Future, Luke has matured a little. He's become more confidant, going as far as calling himself a "whiz" at puzzles. Not only that, but he's more outspoken and will jump in conversations more often. Luke also is more independent, trying to take charge of a situation rather than letting the Professor decide for him, and will even argue back with the Professor if he doesn't agree with something. But what's probably the most noticeable is that Luke is more blunt than he was before, even to the point where he comes off as downright rude and the Professor ends up having to scold him for it. But on a positive note, the boy has learned to become a little more bold and even braver then he was in previous games.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths: As a gentleman-in-training, Luke's a very kind boy with a strong desire to help others. He's very bright, perceptive, curious, and eager to learn something new. He's even able to point out clues that other people would've missed, and he's always asking questions. He also tends to take investigations very seriously.

Weaknesses: Luke has a tendency to act without thinking, sometimes running into situations head-first without thinking about the consequences. And if he's afraid of something, sometimes he'll let that fear get the better of him, making it difficult to complete a task without help. Also, his own childish nature sometimes gets the better of him as well. Such as being brutually honest, making fun of someone, or just getting into mischief that could get him in trouble.

[Luke is getting used to using the Pokegear again. So while he's toying with it, he asks a pretty simple question. It's mostly just to get himself caught up on all the latest news in Johto, but he's hoping to see more familiar faces as well.]

So I've been gone for a few months, and I'm afraid I'm behind on what's all been happening here. Can anyone catch me up? Is Team Rock doing their thing still? Gosh, it feels like there's a lot more Pokemon around here too. Anyway, I'd appreciate any information, thanks!

Third Person Sample:

"So, it's you again."

Luke hadn't been in Johto for very long, but once again he was faced with his nemesis. He remembered these things clearly from the first time he was in Johto, and while he wasn't sure if this was the same Sentret he met during his first week here, he couldn't trust any of them. The Sentret on the other hand, chirped happily at Luke. And sure, it looked cute and happy to him - but he remembers those tiny claws. It was just waiting for him to lower his guard enough so that it could lash out at his face.

"I know you think you've got the advantage here, but I'm on to you. The game's up, I'm not going to be fooled by this cute act of yours anymore," Luke puffed out his chest, showing he means business. The only reason Luke was acting with this much arrogance and bravado was because no one else was watching right now to see that he was making a fool out of himself.

The Sentret tilted its head at him, while Mr. Bear the Teddiursa shook her head in exsaperation. While she and Luke had been overjoyed to see each other again, sometimes she really does question his reasoning for things, this especially. Some of it was probably from the excitement of being back in Johto and traveling again.

And ever since he got back, he had this almost this never-ending energy to him, like he was truly happy to be back in a place he spent two years of his life. And while he was disappointed that no one from home was there with him this time and that he was a rookie trainer again, he wasn't going to let himself become a useless trainer like last time. This time, he really did plan to work his way to the top, and become the really amazing trainer he planned to before he left Johto. He glances back at Mr. Bear, and then back to the Sentret.

"Mr. Bear, use scratch!"

Character
Name: Akira Ijyuin
Series: CLAMP School Detectives / Man of Many Faces
Timeline: The night of his 10th birthday
Canon Resource Links:

http://clamp.wikia.com/wiki/Clamp_School_Detectives
http://clamp.wikia.com/wiki/20_Mensou_ni_Onegai

These links aren't particularly thorough, but his history is pretty simple. If these bullet points aren't enough, I'm happy to write out a more extensive history section.

- Before Akira was born, his father led a secret life as the Mysterious Gentleman Thief with 20 Faces, stealing various things to keep his two wives happy (identical twins he's apparently married at the same time, no CLAMP never explains what's up with that)

- Eventually they have a son together, and for unknown reasons Akira's father decides that he isn't going to live with them any more and up and disappears.

- Akira is raised by his two mothers, growing up on tales of his wonderful father the Thief with 20 Faces (who they don't seem to harbor any resentment for funnily enough), until he is old enough that his mothers start asking him to bring them things in his father's place

- So even though his family is evidently very wealthy (his mothers don't even work) Akira starts assuming the identity of 20 Faces to keep his mothers happy, bringing them whatever they ask for (museum artifacts, tickets to events they've seen on TV, kidnapping celebrities and so forth)

- One night, Akira ducks in to an open window to escape the police and meets five year old Utako Ogawa. She eventually convinces him to visit her every Friday evening, and basically the plot in Man of Many Faces is the two of them falling in love with each other.

- Meanwhile, Akira transfers to CLAMP school and is made elementary student council treasurer by Nokoru Imonoyama. Together with the student council secretary Suoh Takamura they form the CLAMP school detectives, a group that dedicates themselves to aiding distressed damsels everywhere.

Personality:

Akira is a very genuinely bright and cheerful boy, bursting with optimism and always with something to smile about. He's quite excitable and has seemingly boundless enthusiasm for all the wild plans his friends like to put together. He's very open and honest and practically wears his heart on his sleeve. Good news makes him clap his hands together in delight. Sad stories make him tear up a little bit. His face goes bright red whenever he's uncomfortable or embarrassed about something and he develops a pretty severe stammer when people are teasing him.

Generally he gets along well with people and tries to focus on the best in everyone. He tends to get a bit starry eyed about the people he looks up to, particularly Nokoru and Suoh who are his best friends and in his mind basically flawless human beings. He also values Utako's opinions and advice very highly, even before the romance plot really sets in. His mothers would be fairly described as pretty childish and selfish for the most part, but any of that is eclipsed in Akira's opinion by what doting and affectionate mothers they are. Once you really get to know him you have a loyal friend for life, to the point where Akira literally swears his life to Nokoru and Suoh in one of the later CSD chapters.

He's a pretty sensitive kid compared to his cast. At his best, this makes him very sweet and kind, and he genuinely wants to help whenever someone seems to be in distress, even people he doesn't necessarily know very well. This is especially true of women, since as he's learned from Nokoru it's much more important to try to be an aid to a woman in distress in any way you can than it is to worry about how well you know her and whether it's really appropriate to intervene. However, he's also pretty sensitive to conflict in general. Nokoru and Suoh don't really fight per se, but even their spirited conversations about paperwork are enough to make him fret a little bit in the background of the panel. He takes people's words very much to heart, which can make his relationships with overdramatic characters like Utako a bit confusing for him.

He can be a little bit naive, and has an unfortunate tendency of saying just the wrong thing at the wrong time. Sometimes this can be pretty embarrassing for the people he's talking about, and at other times it makes him sound less than intelligent. People would probably describe him as being a little air-headed. However, Akira is actually very clever for his age, it's usually just a combination of naivete, his extreme gullibility and his failure to really think over what the things he's saying actually sound like that make him appear that way.

We know that he's intelligent because of his grades, but his secret identity as 20 Faces really showcases the best of Akira's abilities to think laterally. His escapes are always creative and he always manages to outwit the hundreds of police that are always present at his heists (he always notifies his victims that he will be arriving beforehand, sending notes that detail the particular item he is after and the exact time he will arrive to retrieve it. It's a courtesy in his mind.)

Even though he's been railroaded in to a staggering number of projects (by his mothers, by Nokoru, by Utako – he finds it very difficult to say no, especially to people he loves) he does his level best to keep up with all of them. He does all the cooking and cleaning in his mothers' house. He teaches baking lessons at the university. He seeks out crying girls around the campus as a CLAMP school detective in between all of his usual student council duties. But he really doesn't seem to mind working so hard, and is always modest about how good at everything he is.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:

- Akira has a wealth of physical strengths and talents. He cooks well enough to be the envy of world class chefs, and he even does a little bit of martial arts, easily beating what look like high school kids with no trouble. There's also his secret second identity, the thief with 20 faces, which he uses to steal increasingly bigger and more famous things for his mothers without even coming close to ever being caught.

- He's also very book smart, and is at the top of his grade at a school known for having a very intelligent and diversely talented student body. As the treasurer of the elementary school council, he's able to keep up with all of his duties and paperwork easily, leaving plenty of time to goof around with his friends afterwards.

- Emotionally, he's also very stable. His steadfast optimism lets him bounce back from most things easily, and although he can find himself getting a little bit over empathetic when people are upset, he's never sad for long. When he has troubles he always eventually ends up asking advice from people he trusts, and never lets problems stew in the back of his mind without at least trying to put them right.

Weaknesses:

- While he can fight, he hates to do it. Akira is very averse to conflict of any sort, and would never willingly hurt someone, no matter what the cost to himself might be. Even watching his friends argue makes him very meek and worried. When people try to bully him in to things, like his mothers trying to get him to steal for them, he gives in easily, never wanting to be the cause of another person's sadness.

- And while he's very intelligent, he's also incredibly naive. He always believes the best in people, and so he's very easy to mislead because he wants to believe that everything he's told is true. This also means that he sometimes finds it difficult to read between the lines of what people tell him – things that are very obvious to the reader like Utako's crush on him take him the whole manga to figure out because she never states outright what her feelings are.

- He can also be a little dense when it comes to how he comes across to other people. Having just met him, you wouldn't think he was so talented and intelligent given his habit of saying such airheaded things all the time.

Good morning, everyone!

[A small child appears on the screen, bowing politely to all the trainers on the network today.]

My name is Akira Ijyuin, and I'm a new trainer in the Johto region! If it's not too much trouble, I'd like to call on your expertise about something. I've asked around the Pokecenter, but no one else seems to be able to answer my question. Does anyone know what it's like to live inside the PC box?

[How could anyone possibly know that?! But it looks like it's a completely serious question.]

I know I need to catch an electric type if I want to beat the Violet City gym, but I already have six pokemon. I know my pokemon will be safe in there, but... they won't think I've forgotten them if I leave them in the PC box for a while, will they?

[He looks a little upset at the thought. This has clearly been troubling him.]

After everything we've been through together, I don't want to hurt any of their feelings...

Akira hums along to cheerful tune playing in the street as he steps out of the Goldenrod City Pokemart, boxes piled high in his arms. He was on yet another errand picking up supplies for Team Rocket HQ, but he didn't mind. It was nice to be useful. And in a way, it reminded him a little of home, picking up the groceries for his mothers' dinner.

In fact, for being a completely different universe it's uncanny how much of Akira's life has stayed exactly the same. Rushing around cleaning the Rocket base he could swear he was back at home picking up after his mothers again. And he still cooks the meals for everyone in the house, it's just for regiments of Team Rocket grunts instead of his family. It's a far better outcome than anything he could have imagined when he first woke up in that strange room. It turned out that Team Rocket wasn't nearly as frightening an organisation as it first appeared, once you got to know the people inside of it.

He almost stumbles when he realises his two most favourite Rocket teammates are no longer by his side. Peering around the stack of boxes, Akira breathes a sigh of relief when he sees his twin Vulpix with their noses pressed up against a storefront window. He smiles. Now they really did remind him of home. They had been the ones to first wake him up in this world, and since then they had been his constant companions. Although they were easily distracted, and could be a little pushy sometimes, he knew that they really cared for him and he couldn't help but adore them. He still had a little extra money, maybe they'd seen something they liked inside? He heads over to the window to find them staring at an ad posted inside.

The Goldenrod City berry festival – starting tomorrow with a display of all the entries in the largest berry competition...

When he looks back at his pokemon, twin pairs of impossibly big brown eyes are already staring at him. His heart sinks a little. Even without saying anything, he knows the meaning of that look.

“I know what you're thinking but I can't! Those people worked hard to grow those berries for the competition! And they're so big they'll probably be much more watery than regular berries – I'm not sure you'd like them very...”

His pokemon wail their names and nuzzle against him and Akira finds it hard to continue. It was a little depressing that this part reminded him so much of home as well.

“...All right. ” His Vulpix squeal in excitement, running circles around him. Akira sighs. There wasn't much time to put together a plan. He'd have to send a flying-type ahead with a note of warning tonight. But no matter how difficult it was going to be, he had no choice: The Mysterious Gentleman Thief of Team Rocket would be making yet another appearance in Goldenrod City tomorrow.

Nonary Game: Ambidex Edition wiki.

Phi's Ending wiki.

Personality:
With the other characters in Virtue's Last Reward being forthcoming with details on their life, comparatively, Phi defaults to the game's resident Mystery Girl. Right off the bat she's cryptic and dodges issues whenever possible -- even when there are situations she can explain, she shows a reluctance to. It's only when she can spout hard facts or reference back to theories that she becomes a fountain of knowledge. This ability to be concise earns her a measure of respect from the others in their trapped group. Luckily enough, she has a wealth of these facts at her disposal, as apparently her interests range from particle science to Schrodinger's cat to Lord of the Rings.

Phi doesn't like to show her hand in a situation, and if she can have someone else be the direct cause then she will likely go that route. She keeps her thoughts to herself, and it's often up to Sigma/the player to prompt her to explain or even force her to, such as when he refuses to vote during the first AB game until she explains what she (mysteriously) knows about then-unexplained rules. While these times lead her to be irritated and defensive, other times she's quite willing to expound. If the information is far enough removed from her, such as explaining the Prisoner's Dilemma or translating a journal from Latin, she seems willing enough to go over it several times. It helps that Phi can then use this lessons to get others to follow her lead, often for her own benefit. If it can work to her advantage, she will also act more comfortably around others, such as when she tricks K into trusting her by stuffing her face with food and appearing to lower her guard as they explore a puzzle room together.

She isn't always cold, however. As the game progresses, Phi somewhat softens to the idea of Sigma, even if she finds him frustrating and not always the smartest of individuals. She begins to joke around more, switching to playful teasing rather than bluntly stating a negative. She even praises him without sarcasm! While their friendship is odd on many levels, Phi appears to gradually take it in stride like with everything else the Nonary Game throws at her.

Keeping a level head seems to be a strength of Phi's, given her ability to present herself calmly in many situations. Even when she tips into more emotional sides, she generally tops out at worried and a notch below true anger. The time she really gets emotional is, after spending time with Sigma and learning to trust him, he/the player chooses to betray her in the second round of the AB game after promising her he/you wouldn't (an event she remembers in the 'PHI; END' but which occurs on a timeline parallel to it instead.) She swears at this point that she'll never forget what he's done and warns him that "not even Jupiter can find a lost opportunity"; he can't go back and change events. Funnily enough, finding a lost opportunity is exactly what they both do once the player switches back to the 'PHI; END' path. This time, Phi chooses 'betray' for revenge and intends to leave through the number 9 door -- and leave the other players for as good as dead. Even then, her cold demeanor can be placated again by repeating her warning back. They have found their lost opportunity and can use it to discover the truth of the Nonary Game. Another instance is when she has to rely on Sigma's memory through faulty history jumps or the entire facility will explode, killing all of them (again, before they catch this Nonary Game's culprit and find out exactly why they're all there.)

Due to her ability to hop across timelines, Phi can, at times, have knowledge of situations (the most obvious instance is at the beginning of the game, when she calls the player 'Sigma' and explains it away as 'I just knew it.') While this confuses her, she doesn't tend to doubt herself, and is adamant that she's correct. If questioned repeatedly on how she knows what she does, Phi basically shuts down, only responding with frustrated yells. When Sigma pulls his own "I just knew" on her, however, her skepticism goes up, and she's perfectly willing to use her knowledge of his 'premonitions' to throw him under the bus when events cast suspicion on him.

Phi spends a good deal of time not "playing" the game, instead choosing to think through the consequences of each action and explaining it to Sigma when he's looking for guidance. Again going back to the instance of their first voting session, Phi uses a chunk of their time to first explain the Prisoner's Dilemma and how the AB game mirrors it, then goes into the benefits and disadvantages of each option provided. However, she still operates with her best interests in mind -- while everyone choosing 'ally' is the most advantageous action and the easiest way to win the Nonary Game, Phi instructs Sigma to pick 'betray' instead so that they could get the most points out of the situation. It's implied that if she reaches 9 BP and can "win" the Nonary Game, she likely wouldn't, since it's only after Sigma betrays her that she aims to leave and she says, "When someone betrays your trust, it feels like a part of you dies. For me I guess it was the part that cared."

In a way, Phi is dedicated to the truth. Sure, she brushes off her sudden "knowing" of things and doesn't question being an esper, but she plays detective for the game's many other mysteries, seeing out the game to its end to get the truth. While many of these things mainly require determination, there are a few instances that are a tad more...unusual. When presented with dead bodies (during other ending paths) she often takes point during the examination, aside from Luna's approach with the medical scanner. She doesn't act overly squeamish, but a quiet comment to a dead Clover shows that she doesn't think of them as just bodies, either. She treats the deceased with respect, trying to be as gentle and unobtrusive as possible while she collects evidence.

The high regards in which she holds others (though it's not always apparently, given her brash attitude and unwillingness to connect) could stem from her own sense of pride. When Sigma calls her a harpy, she's quick to threaten, and she doesn't like it when the accuracy of her knowledge comes into question. Phi likes to play wordsmith and make references, but she can become embarrassed when she fumbles the correct word choice or states something really outlandish, such as the puzzle room's safe being used to hold a cracker or being a tie deposit box. To cover her awkwardness, she'll breeze by these, doing what she can to put the focus away from her and back on the situation at hand. She also prefers to rely on herself more than on others. At times, Phi is forced to look to her fellow players for information, but she's obviously the most confident when she's calling the shots. When questioned why she doesn't jump to another history, she becomes reluctant to admit that her ability isn't nearly so refined, making it so she can't remember events clearly.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Knowledgeable.
+ Practical.
+ Thoughtful.
+ Considers all possibilities.
+ Strong-willed.
+ Compartmentalization.

+/- Plays up mysterious status.

- Doesn't trust easily.
- Willing to betray others.
- Easily frustrated.
- Impatient.
- Sometimes swaps words when speaking.

I've heard some talk that what Pokemon we started out with says something about ourselves.

Oddish, huh? Rather odd-ish. Somewhat odd. Bummer. Here I thought I was settling in.

[You cut her deep, Johto.]

But I guess it's a fair assessment to say that I'm hardly your average Joe -- especially since my name isn't Joe. I'm uniquely me.

...Somehow, I get the feeling that a select few might say 'odd' is more accurate.

[Sigh. She's starting to miss those weirdos back home. Even Sigma.

...Especially Sigma.]

Third Person Sample:
The easy answer to her sudden predicament was that she must have jumped. To when and where was a harder thing to determine, what with the woman ushering her out upon arrival and crowing about some 'journey' without so much as a detail on what that would entail. A glance to her wrist, though, said that she was no longer in the Nonary Game -- not that she had suspected such, given the different atmosphere this new place gave off, but the lack of a bracelet was relieving nonetheless.

Once the door shut behind her, Phi began to take a closer look at herself. Same clothes, oddly, and she couldn't feel any wrinkles or spots that weren't supposed to be there. "That's something," she mumbles, ignoring the pang in her chest that let's her know she's missing a certain, less-fortunate bastard. It's weird, she registers moments later, that she can remember it all so clearly. Maybe Akane was right and all those jumps had helped make all those memories actually take hold. Of course, she still wasn't feeling particularly grateful to the old woman, at the moment...

Satisfied she wasn't worse for wear at least, and that the environment wasn't some infuriating puzzle she'd rather pawn off on someone else or some kind of death trap, her attention moved to the bag at her feet. The woman in the building had tossed this out along with her, cheerfully (and weirdly mechanically) saying something about how it was dangerous to go alone. Supplies were quickly strewn about, item after item being added to the growing mess after inspection, until she came across two things that looked...not as unusual as some things in Rhizome 9 had, actually, but were at least less mundane than the change of clothes and the book. Heck, the book was even in English. Where was the challenge in that?

"Huh." With a pursing of her lips, Phi clicks through the various posts being added to the network. Everyone seemed...pretty happy. Safe. Could she really have traveled to a time like that...? Had she and Sigma been successful? If that was the case, where was the old dirtbag? Or...young dirtbag even, she supposed. Abandoning her musings for a moment, she focused in on a video that finally showed the other item -- that ball with the strange button. The boy on screen tossed it, yelling something that sounded like an inane catchphrase, and --

"...An animal fit into that? I was really hoping for a cracker..."

Character
Name: Touko Fukawa
Series: Dangan Ronpa
Timeline: During the final Class Trial.
Canon Resource Links: Wikia

Personality: When first meeting Fukawa one gets the clear impression that she has something of a persecution complex going for her. She thinks everyone is out to get her, that she’s disgusting, and that she’d just disappear is the wish of her classmates. Considering her background as a writer a certain amount of insecurity might be expected, and yet her persecution complex has very little to do with her preferred genre to write in (Romance), but her person as a whole. As the complex implies Fukawa is actually quite insecure. She actually goes so far as to say that none of her fellow classmates will remember her name while introducing herself. Despite her vast success as an author, Fukawa actually has a very low opinion of herself.

Fukawa is anti-social because of being the target of childhood bullying. It is also heavily implied during the game that being bullied was the cause of her split personalities. Her other personality, Genocider Syo, operates both as her own person and as a defense mechanism for Fukawa. However, in Route Syo will remain dormant for the entirety of Fukawa’s stay especially since she’s a serial killer with a penchant for crucifying cute boys. She’s more comfortable as an onlooker than leading the pack, a fact that is evident in how quickly she takes the initial findings of investigations to heart and staunchly defends them during class trials. Her idea of keeping company typically includes her stalking Byakuya Togami over the course of the day as he attempts to escape her or entirely avoid her.

Anti-social as she is it is more than a little obvious that she lives in her own world. Frequently, she drifts off into fantasies of a relationship with her Byakuya-sama, and she tends to verbalize clues to their contents publically; much to the disgust (or distress in Asahina’s case) of the others. Often times these fantasies are triggered by Togami saying something particularly derogatory to her and in her own twisted sense of reality Fukawa takes his words as compliments. Unsurprisingly, Fukawa is stunned when faced with sincere interest from another person. So unused to this is she that she goes so far as to test Naegi when he says that he’s curious because they’re friends. Legitimate and healthy socialization has been denied her for so long that her persecution complex and low self-esteem (both of which are also the result of her being bullied as a child) causes her to viscerally rebel against the very possibility. Thus, Fukawa is actually virtually impossible to get to know, nevermind befriend.

Don't mistake Fukawa for merely a creeper though; she is intelligent. It isn’t the same as Kirigiri, Togami, or Naegi but still smart enough. She doesn't have the title of Super High School Level Bookworm for nothing. Ask her any question on literature or mythology, and she can summarize it. Her realm of knowledge of literature and its sub-genres is extensive, but it also leads her to be a massive snob. She looks down on the light novel and doujin, to her they are drivel for the uncreative and would only serve as a means for killing brain cells.

Fukawa escapes into her writing or fantasies when left to her own devices. Here things go as she expects them and no one treats her as unwanted or attempts to play tricks on her. Writing her own novels is just an extension of her escapism and gives an outlet to the multitude of fantasies she concocts on any given day. She writes romance because her own love life is tragic.

She does have something of a perfectionist side to her. In eighth grade, she was asked on a date and she spent three days and nights planning for the date. To a normal individual her need to find the perfect activity for a first date borders on obsessive. Yet the fact that she went to such lengths shows how much she cared about making a good impression and how desperately she craves social interaction. Upon finding out that, the date was merely the result of a lost bet she rationalizes the boy ditching her halfway through the movie as natural. Once more saying that no one would willingly choose her and that the only way anyone would ever ask her on a date was if they lost a bet.

Bottom line for Fukawa is that she’s unpleasant because she’s insecure, and because she happens to have and alternate personality well known for killing people. That latter half makes all her effort to keep people at a distance that much more telling when combined with the knowledge that Genocider Syo is a serial killer.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Vast Imagination
Her imagination is huge. And she uses it frequently both for her own fantasies and her stories. It is one of the main reasons that she is such a successful author. Her imagination is the source of the many intimate scenes in her romance novels, which comes in handy since her sexual experience is limited to nothing. It is also how she comes up with some of the strange assumptions of whom Naegi is interested in throughout her stay in murder school. If nothing else it keeps her occupied when she isn’t stalking Togami.

+ Has a way with words
As a successful author, Fukawa understandably has a way with words. She is extremely talented with the written word; however, she is just as capable of utilizing language to a similar degree in verbal communication. It’s because of this that she has gotten into a couple arguments with Yamada.

+ Will Sequester Herself to Protect her Friends
Despite the fact that she has less of a backbone than a normal well-adjusted teenager, Fukawa has determination. She was not going to allow her alternate personality harm any of her classmates after the discovery of Fujisaki’s body. Her willingness to lock herself away as a form of protection for the rest shows an impressive amount of development on her part. The fact that she ultimately failed to keep Syo contained is inconsequential compared to the lengths she was willing to go.

+/- Improving Hygiene
Fukawa doesn’t really consider good hygiene habits a high priority. It’s only become something she’s paid any attention to over the last few days or so in Hope’s Peak. This is both a strength and a weakness as it shows her willingness to be more appealing to people and because it was brought on by Togami’s dislike for smelly and dirty people.

+/- Byakuya Togami
Like her improving hygiene, Togami has been a tremendous influence in her life. He provides her with attention she’s familiar with in his frequent derogatory comments. Despite his regularly poor treatment of her; Fukawa is intensely loyal to him and will defend him from just about anyone. In doing so, she has displayed a great deal more backbone than she did when he framed her for Fujisaki’s murder. Ironically, she’s also aware that he uses her and she’s perfectly okay with this as she is by all accounts a masochist and highly submissive. She is capable of making decisions for herself but they are frequently influenced by whatever Togami has already decided to do. Still he is the reason she strives to keep Genocider Syo under control and wishes to be worthy of his love and affection in some form.

- Delusional
Fukawa is just a little bit out of her mind. It tends to bleed into her day to day interactions as she talks with people. Largely it manifests in Fukawa assuming things about the people around her. A primary example would be how she tends to call people out on hating her when they feel indifferent or actually care about her. In similar fashion, she tends to believe that Togami really cares about her when he says multiple times that he would prefer she died.

- Stutter
She has a stutter. It doesn’t really hinder her communication abilities but it does tend to make itself known when she’s flustered or nervous. It can be used by any perceptive soul to read her emotional state.

- Rude
Oh man can she be rude. She will frequently speak in dirty euphemisms toward another girl or flat out insult an individual. It’s all defense mechanism but it does tend to make her more than a little prickly and difficult to deal with.

- Trust Issues
She doesn’t trust many particularly easily. The only exception is Togami and that could be because he treats her in a manner she’s used to as even Naegi’s efforts were met with resistence. However, anyone that treats her well is met with extreme distrust and paranoia that the person trying to pull a prank on her or planning to hurt her in the future.

[The feed opens on a dour looking young woman in Goldenrod City based on the skyline. She stares for a moment blinking at the camera before the feed switches to audio her image gone just as quickly as it appeared.]

I-I’ve been wondering for a while now b-but … forget it. It isn’t like anyone would h-help me anyway. I’m just as insignificant as a gnat.

[A brief pause before she continues.]

What is the appeal of gym battles? This will be my third gym battle, and I find them extremely dull. Less worthy of spending time on than a fine book and similar in importance to that of that trashy manga anime nerds spend all their pocket money on.

[She stops to pause and if one is listening close enough they can hear panting over the connection followed by a quick series of yowls from a pokemon.]

N-no, don't bring them over here. I don’t want to see them and no one would want to see me. Genoscissor behave, they’ll only be disappointed that you had them come over here for me.

[The feed ends there as Genoscissor continues to bark happily at someone else.]

Third Person Sample:

She isn’t happy. Not that that would come as such a surprise to anyone that actually knew Fukawa, but the looks she’s getting. It only proves that she was right all along. People hate her, even people that don’t even know her. The fact that there’s a hip high white dog thing with a curved blade sticking out of its head doesn’t seem to register to Fukawa as the cause for the stares. And why should it? This is the land of strange monsters roaming freely after all.

She takes one quick final look at the little town of prejudiced onlookers and darts for the quickest way out. The Absol following with a wave of relieved sighs in their wake. She takes that as yet another sign that her leaving was always their wish. Stupid townspeople always seeing her as a grotesque monster to be shunned instead of a normal person like himself or herself. If only Byakuya-sama or Naegi-kun were there or even the dumb oaf Hagakure-san would be welcome. At least they seemed to tolerate her occasionally.

That thought alone makes her laugh as she slumps down against a tree. “They hate me too. Only Byakuya-sama cares for me.” She mumbles under her breath. Her gaze turns to the Absol standing stoically over her. “You loathe me too don’t you? You wish you’d been partnered any other trainer than me.”

The Absol to her credit simply whimpers and lays down resting her head in Fukawa’s lap as if that proved how happy she was to be with Fukawa. The pigtailed teenager on the other hand is only partially impressed by this show of loyalty, though it doesn’t stop her from shoving the pokemon away from her and yelling at it.

“Go! You hate me so you should go. Why would you want to stay with someone as pathetic as me? And I won’t be of any use to you if something attacks us. I’m homophobic and I’ll pass out and you’ll be left on your own.”

The Absol barks and forces her way back to Fukawa’s side and nuzzles her cheek as if to say, “None of that matters we’ll be fine.” And oddly enough it reminded her a little of how Naegi-kun tried so hard to become her friend. She still thought she was pathetic and that everyone hated her but she might have two friends now and that couldn’t be a bad thing.

Character
Name: Rabbit
Series: Steam Powered Giraffe
Timeline: After his most recent concert, 2013.
Canon Resource Links: http://www.steampoweredgiraffe.com/Rabbit.html

Personality: Rabbit is nuts. No really, he's nuts. After over a hundred years of functioning and refusing upgrades, he is certifiably off his rocker. He was always on the eccentric side but since the wars and all that living he's done, it's safe to say the copper 'bot has more than a few screws loose in that head of his. He can be a selfish, childish, impish brat who can and will make a mess of everything he touches just simply for the sake of doing it because why not? A little ego monster too, his head is pretty darn swollen, what with being the oldest of his brothers, Colonel Peter Walter's (Pappy) first robot, pretty talented in the singing and music making division and all around snappy dresser. None of that persona is usually faked, he honestly feels that proud about himself, and he loves to lord it over his siblings even if, as they put it, he's aged like a fine milk.

Rabbit really is a few cards shy of a deck though. He lives in extremes almost every second of his life, subtlety does not come easily to him. One moment he could be wonderously happy, flitting about the manor and making talk with everyone else and being generally content with life. The next, he's bored, and making everyone's life as inconvieniant as possible, whether it be tromping through the house at 1 AM with his accordion, drawing faces on The Jon, pranking The Spine or trying to eat the next door neighbors cat whole. He has a fantastically bad temper to go along with this, and can spiral into a crushing depression if he suspects they did poorly in a show or if his feelings are damaged badly enough. He can become quite moody at the drop of a hat, and may refuse to leave his room for days on end if he felt badly enough. Only to emerge from it a ball of energy all over again.

One simple way to see Rabbit angry though, is to either insult his Pappy or endanger his family. He loves his family more than anything, and he is willing to risk life and limb to make sure they are safe. He is, after all, the oldest, and therefore the man of the house. Protecting them is up to him. Though his weapons were locked away from him after the wars, he still possesses his flame thrower, and a blue matter laser lens array, which is put to use when he puts his goggles down. He dislikes combat as a whole though, and while he may talk tough and bluster his way around, he usually won't stoop to fighting unless absolutely necessary. He isn't in the business of hurting people anymore after all. Annoying them maybe, but not directly hurting. He still carries with him a great deal of guilt when his core was stolen from him and vaporized two people, mutating a third. Though he certainly couldn't help it, it haunts him to this day, and it is a considerable weight that he carries on his shoulders, along with the wars he was in.

What Rabbit does love to do is to make music. He is a sucker for love songs, and has written several (even if one of them was for a toaster). He falls in love quickly and deeply, and loves intensely from the first day. He even says it in one of his songs that he only just saw his love when he knew he loved her. He has a long list of lovers, consisting of a toaster, a blender, and one night stand, though he has fallen in love with a more sentient being before (and lost her, if Honeybee is of any indication). He is... ninty percent straight, with only the occasional exception, and will typically flirt with any pretty woman. Or attractive appliance. He is very easy to manipulate while he has his crush, a pretty face could convince him to do almost anything, while the flame is still burning. But he just as easily moves on to the next object of his affection. He has a lot of love to give, and shares it freely with the world at every given chance.

He's prone to the most malfunctions due to being the oldest robot with the oldest parts on him. He stutters constantly, and may spasm and twitch due to crossed wires. Still, he refuses to be upgraded, and will rarely sit down long enough for repairs, never replacements. It's even a fight to scrub the patina from his copper, as he thinks it looks 'cool'. Though it worries The Spine, he never lets that bother him too much. He considers himself a work of art the way Pappy made him, and prefers to remain just the way he is. The real final result is that he is pretty clumsy and slow, not that he cares about that very much, and cannot be convinced otherwise to change his stripes any time soon.

Rabbit is overall a well meaning 'bot, if glitchy and obnoxious. He has a big 'heart', so to speak, and though he often gets in way over his head and starts problems, he's genuinely a nice person who loves his family. Even if he likes to tease them constantly. Silly, but usually pretty charming.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths

Natural performer: Rabbit knows how to work a crowd and how to gain attention. He's the master at putting on a show and will abuse this ability to its highest degree.

Talented Showman: He's a beautiful singer and quite the dancer, and doesn't mind showing off both abilities if need be.

Emapthetic: To a degree. Rabbit can read emotions, but he isn't very good at reacting well to them. It might be his goal to piss someone off, so he'll do things to upset them, or he'll want to see a smile, so he'll put all his effort into that. No matter what, he's got a handle on emotions and what they look and feel like.

Weaknesses

Emotionally unstable: Rabbit swings through his emotions quickly and often, rattling through the whole rainbow in a single day. One second he could be over the moon and delighted with life in general, and the next he's been triggered into a depression that may have hold of him for hours.

Easily manipulated: Rabbit wants to be able to trust people. While he has some paranoia, he's generally a very trusting soul, and if someone tells him something, he usually doesn't have any reason to not believe them. He's heard fantastic things that were perfectly true after all, why shouldn't he believe this one?

Quick tempered: Just as his moods flare and ebb, Rabbit has one hell of a temper on him, and can be easily goaded into fighting someone. Lacking the usual physical strength he has as a robot, this might mean poor things for Rabbit in the future.

Starter: I would think ralts would be a good choice for Rabbit, in the fact that Rabbit is such an emotional creature. He feels things just as strongly, if not more strongly than a human does, and that includes feelings of happiness and joy. He is never just actively content, he is always exuberant or joyous. Of course it stands to reason that he feels the negative emotions just as strongly, but those positive ones would certainly draw in a ralts, and finding out that it is attracted to his good moods would put Rabbit in a mindset to try and actively be happy more often, improving his disposition and temperament.

First Person Sample: Hey!

[Two mismatched eyes take up the whole screen for a moment, before he pulls back, grinning widely]

Wha-what's goin' on over there? Lookie here what I g-g-g-got!

[Seemed the stutter was too stubborn to be removed by a mere change into an organic shape. In any case, Rabbit rifles around for a moment, before pulling out... a badge! His first badge!]

Me an' PB&J w-w-won it! Yanno why? Guy was a p-push over, that's wh-why. We're the be-be-best time in the whole continent. Yeah that's ri-right, the whole entire continent!

[PB&J in question is milling about near Rabbit's shins, delicately tugging on his pantleg. Rabbit glances down, and quickly pulls her up, sticking ralts right in the screen with him]

Just flashy thinged him into nuthin'! An' Spine di-di-did some stuff too, I guess. Sort of. Not really. Spine just flopped around. But other than that, best team ever. We're g-g-gonna move on to the next gym I guess. Eventually. I'll ge-get around to it. Say, anyone in the area? Me an' PB&J are gonna p-p-put on a sh-show! I mean, we ain't got no instruments but at least one of us can sing, an' one of us ca-ca-can dance! And PB&J will be there too.
So anyone who fe-fe-fe-feels like havin' a 'beaten the crummy gym' party can come find me! An' bring snacks! Definitely bring snacks. Gusher! I wa-wa-wa-wanna see if my head turns into a strawberry.

Third Person Sample: Rain. Rabbit had never been allowed to go out in the rain as a robot. He watched it pour down from his relatively safe vantage point in an oversized bush, only getting the occasional droplet on his otherwise pretty slick looking outfit. As usual, PB&J was not too far away from him, watching him with a mixture of concern and curiosity. Mostly because... well Rabbit's face was a mixture of concern and curiosity. It was raining, he really should find proper shelter, but he didn't want to go out there and get wet! Didn't humans get sick if they walked in the rain or something? If he didn't like seeing an engineer, he certainly wouldn't like seeing a doctor.

"Whaddya think, PB&J?" He glanced over to her, reaching out to ruffle her head a little and grinning. "Should we make a break fer it?" Ralts responded with a coo, placing a hand atop his. "Yeah, lets ge-ge-get someone to come find us. Somebody out there's go-gotta have an umbrella or somethin' right?" Or maybe they could carry him. Ralts wandered out from under his hand, heading over to the other side of the bush while Rabbit stared off into the rain. It was really starting to come down, it wouldn't be long before more rain got past the bushes leaves and then he'd be soaked!

Ralts was starting to tug on his hand now, but he didn't look over this time, drumming his fingers against the ground. "I don't wanna ruin my clothes, these're really nice..." He tugged his hat down over his eyes a little, wrapping his arms around his legs and resting his chin atop his knees. Ralts was starting to insistently tug at his clothes now, and yet still he didn't look up from where he was.

"I be-be-bet Spine'd like this weather." Spine. His thoughts drifted back to his actual brother, and not the magikarp in its pokeball at his side. Spine wouldn't like the rain in the slightest, he'd be yelling at Rabbit to come inside quickly before actual damage was done. Outside with an umbrella maybe, waiting for him. Getting upset as Spine was want to do. At this point, Ralts had given up, and started away from Rabbit.

Towards the pokemon center roughly fifteen feet away. Okay, she'd just find someone in there with an umbrella to break her trainer out of his strange mood. Some humans sometimes...

Character
Name: Solid Snake aka Old Snake aka David
Series: Metal Gear Solid
Timeline: Just after Act 3 of MGS4, Old Snake's face has been severely burned and his surrogate mother is dead. He's recuperating after all that's happened but is being sent to Shadow Moses once more in order to salvage Metal Gear Rex.
Canon Resource Links: http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Solid_Snake

Personality:
Solid Snake has had a hard life, as once described by Otacon. Every victory has been short-lived, and the way up to it has been littered with causalities and sadness. To understand the now, we have to start at the (almost) beginning.

In Metal Gear Solid, Snake has retired to Alaska in order to escape his life as a soldier. He has PTSD from his final encounter with Big Boss(his mentor), and how he had to kill his own best friends simply because they were on opposite sides. His friend, Colonel Roy Campbell, calls him back into action because of a terrorist organization that is planning to use a Metal Gear to start WW3. Snake has been the only man (since Big Boss) to take out two Metal Gears and live, and he was considered an expert. The Snake we see in this game is sarcastic, has a strange sense of humor, and is very interested in the opposite sex. Though he appears lighthearted, it's possible to catch glimpses of the darkness inside of him, such as when people call him a Hero, or when he's unable to protect Meryl (though that is not considered canon). He also meets his later-to-be best friend, Hal "Otacon" Emmerich, who starts as a huge nerd, but the two become dependent on one another and even have a special bond when speaking to each other.

After the events of Metal Gear Solid, Snake returns to Alaska with Meryl, Colonel Campbell's "niece". Things seem fine, but eventually Meryl and Snake grow apart, and she leaves him, resulting in Snake becoming an alcoholic.

In Metal Gear Solid 2, Otacon had gone to Alaska to retrieve his old friend, having started his own organization called "Philanthropy", a group that would protect mankind by disabling Metal Gears across the globe. Snake joined up with his friend and the two began their quest, although they were mostly seen as a terrorist group themselves because of their "vigilante terrorism." After trying to disable the Metal Gear Ray, Snake finds himself meeting Liquid Snake again, his enemy (and apparent brother) from the first game, except he's now possessed another character, Revolver Ocelot, through his arm. (Yeah.)

After the ensuing chaos, Snake is not seen for a great deal of time... And reappears under an alias, Iroquois Plisken, in order to keep watch over Raiden, the newest "FOXHOUND" agent, and also try to find out what the latest terrorist organization is up to. In this game, Snake is similar to his former self, except a bit more funny. His sense of humor hasn't really changed and he's pretty bossy, but the bond he shares with Otacon is quite prevalent, especially when he comforts his friend over the loss of his sister. By the end of the game, Snake is a bit close with Raiden, trying to give him direction in life after the confusing mess they just went through.

The next time we see Solid Snake, however, he's changed quite a bit. The year is 2014, and Snake is an old man. He is a clone, but he was created to have a limited life-span, to keep him from falling into the wrong hands. Though he's actually 42 years old, he resembles a man in his 80s. This incarnation of Snake is quite a bit more heavyhearted. He's old and he's bitter. He holds a lot of regrets, he carries deep burden... He still tries to guide those he's close to, wanting them to lead a life that isn't the one he's had to suffer. He and Otacon are raising Sunny, the child they were looking for at the end of MGS2, and her interactions with Snake show his more gentle side, even if he's pretty shitty with kids.
Snake suffers greatly in this game because he seems to want to live, and yet death would be a sweet release to his suffering. His body is barely holding together, apparently, but his sheer willpower is all that's keeping him going. In Act 3, Snake both meets his surrogate mother and watches her die, failing to protect her and feeling wholly responsible in the end.

To summarize, Snake is a strong soldier, his will-power keeping him going through even the most dire of situations. He is not without humor, however, and even has a funny bone, though it is quite dry at times. He loves his friends, however few they are, and he has a hard time showing that he cares for the ones closest to him until it's too late. Old Snake worries about becoming close to others due to his accelerated aging, fearing that they'd be stricken with grief because of his passing. At the same time, however, he is embittered by his fate, and often behaves in ways that show he doesn't care about what happens to him (ie smoking).
Snake's friend, Gray Fox (Frank Jaeger), once told him "We're not tools of the government, or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing I was good at, but at least I was fighting for what I believed in." Snake appears to take this quote to heart, even if it may seem that he always ends up a pawn in someone else's game.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Snake is a master of CQC, Close Quarters Combat. Even in his old age, he can catch a healthy person in peak condition and wrestle them into unconsciousness. He doesn't screw around, years of training turning him into the perfect soldier. Snake is also skilled at sneaking around without making a sound. When equipping a box or barrel, Snake can avoid detection quite easily and get through many tight spots. In MGS4, he's given Octo Camo, an upgraded suit that allows him to blend into his surroundings in order to better protect him, since boxes aren't very practical in outdoor locations. Snake is also extremely charismatic, even if he's a bit of a dork sometimes. He'll often say extremely inspirational things, managing to bring up (or motivate) his allies' spirits and carry on. And perhaps the one that's a bit downplayed is the fact that Snake is fluent in 6 languages, even in his old age! This man is prepared for really any situation, making him quite powerful.

But like any protagonist, he has some big weaknesses. Probably the biggest would be his accelerated aging; though in Route he won't have to worry about dying, he still suffers from Nanomachine Attacks-- these are like heart attacks that are induced by the nanomachines in his body and can only be soothed by injecting himself with a temporary cure-all that neutralizes the nanomachines inside his body temporarily. Nanomachines aside, Snake can sometimes be too much of a hard-ass, whether it's to Sunny about her inability to cook eggs properly, or even putting himself down when he's in a tough spot. He tries to comfort his friends, but he's not very good at coddling, and will often become frustrated when people mourn for too long.

Old Snake hates being referred to as old, and it will lower his "Psyche Gauge", or his self-esteem. When it gets too low, he's unable to properly fire his weapons or perform as he usually does. On top of feeling old, he gets all the symptoms of said label, such as bad pains, sore limbs, joint pain, etc. Decades of crawling around on your belly and crouch-walking can put the body into a world of hurt.

The one thing that Snake outright cannot do is kill his own. Even if it would be required of him to forget someone and move on without them, he can't do it. Even if it would put him in danger to try and rescue said person, he will not leave them behind, and will always try to save them. In MGS4, the only time he didn't do this was when leaving Naomi behind at the end of Act 4 due to the facility collapsing and the fact that Naomi was "a walking corpse", so to speak. If one of his own is threatened, he will stop at nothing to rescue them, even if means his own life is in danger.

(Snake won't actually have the Octo Camo feature with him, but maybe he could have the upgraded suit? It's like a muscle suit, so it lets him still perform enough of his skills without TOO much pain.)

[ There's a crackle of life and a video call starts up, an old man's face present. He looks exhausted, solemn, and he's got a large bandage covering half of his face. The corners of his mouth are tilted somewhat into a frown, and his breathing's a bit ragged. ]

Kept you waiting, huh. [ He'd been here before, he remembered this place, remembered everything that had happened... But for the moment, it felt like none of that mattered. ] Looks like this place hasn't changed all that much... Guess I can't continue where I left off, huh?

[ He begins to cough loudly, it sounds harsh, almost like choking. The feed moves, looking over at his new starter. The large tortoise snorts, smoke billowing from its nostrils. ] ... Another one. I guess I can't name this one Marlboro... Wouldn't be fair to the last one I had. [ He gives a bit of a smirk, turning the camera back to himself. It's quiet for a while, and there's a deep sorrow in Snake's eyes... The bandage on his face is hanging off somewhat, and anyone looking closely enough can see the severe burn underneath. ]

Guess that's all I have to say. Snake out.

Third Person Sample:
Snake awoke with a start, a loud grunt escaping his throat. He was panting heavily, eyes darting around the area before he placed a hand to his face, feeling the bandage that was practically taped there... That's right... He couldn't save Big Mama, she'd died and he'd been both emotionally and physically scarred. That was all over now, he was back in Johto, this strange world filled with equally (if not more) strange creatures... He'd been here once, a long time ago, and he'd made a lot of friends along the way. But that didn't mean the pain was all gone... He was still badly burnt from the fire on the Volta, and his body wasn't doing so well due to it, made apparent by the coughing fits he'd fall into.

Snake groaned, slowly getting to his feet, adjusting the bandanna around his forehead. He'd already left New Bark Town, was getting ready to head to Cherrygrove. His newest starter was not a Togepi, but a Torkoal, which he was still thinking of a name for. His mind was still packed with thoughts from what happened in Europe. Frowning, the old soldier put on his bag, looking around at the tall grass. He could see a wild Pidgey flapping its wings and pecking at the ground and decided he might as well see if he still had what it takes. Reaching into his pack, the soldier fumbled around until he pulled out a Pokeball, activating it and tossing it forward, summoning forth the Torkoal.

"Torkoal, use, uh... Flamethrower." Snake suggested, trying to remember the moveset. It had been a while. The Pokemon let out a soft hissing sound, the smoke from its nostrils soon transforming into flames, which shot toward the Pidgey, setting the Pokemon ablaze and severely weakening it. At this time, Old Snake should have been throwing a Pokeball in order to capture the weakened animal, but he could only stare at the flames, gritting his teeth as the wound on his face began to throb in pain. It was all coming back to him in a flash; the fire, Big Mama's cries, the body, the searing burn... Her death in his arms, his inability to save her... Seeing that the Pokeball hadn't been thrown, Torkoal turned to its trainer and wandered back, rubbing its head against his leg out of concern. Snake gasped lightly, looking down at the Pokemon, snapping back to reality. He didn't realize he'd zoned out, and by the time he looked back at where the Pidgey had fallen, it had already ran off.

David frowned, kneeling down next to his Pokemon and giving its head a rub, "Hnn... Sorry. I got a bit... distracted, I guess." The Torkoal tilted its head, making a sound as it expelled more smoke from its nostrils. The old soldier eyed the animal for a long time and slowly stood up again, coughing, "Yeah... Maybe I am too old for this."

Character
Name: Joker
Series: Kuroshitsuji
Timeline: After his death
Canon Resource Links: History, character death

Personality: Joker the Ringmaster has quite the loud presence when he's in his element under the big top, and he fills his name out well. With a smile on his face, he's loud and booming as he introduces act after amazing act. Behind the scenes, he's a little less loud but no less in charge, and certainly not lacking his smile. The rest of the first tier members seem to have some rough sides, from the dismissive and even violent acrobatic duo, to the brusque Beast. Joker is notable to be quite openly friendly and welcoming to most of the people he speaks to throughout the circus. When Dagger and Beast are fighting Sebastian, he stops the battle not by martial means but by doing a circus trick to give Beast some flowers. This probably speaks loads of both how good at dealing with conflict Joker has become in his role of leader and how much he cares about the other first tier members.

Because goodness does Joker care. Behind his laughter, he is at his core an intensely caring individual. It's certainly not the Sailor Moon kind of caring, because Joker possesses the kind of intense caring that can make him do truly horrible things for the sake of people who that caring is directed towards. He shows sympathy towards Ciel when the young boy claims he lost his eye in an accident, and states that the circus was created to give the rest of them- those with growth disorders, missing limbs, and who didn't fit into missing society- a place where they would fit in. The circus was meant to be a place where they could be celebrated, although it wouldn't be easy going. If it means keeping the children from the same kind of painful background as him safe and fed... He won't kidnap children or lead them to death gladly, but he'll do it still, forcing himself to smile even if it hurts him and makes him hate himself. It's clear that he takes no pleasure in subjecting the children to such horrific deaths, protesting when Baron Kelvin tells him to put on a show. Still... Desperation and caring can make a dangerous mix.

That area is where both his more outgoing side and his serious side are born from. In the circus, he seems to be considerably happier. However, upon returning to Baron Kelvin's manor, we see him change. There's still some joking to start with as he exchanges things with Ciel while leading him to the dining room. However, when he first answers the door, he's not smiling and welcomes Ciel and Sebastian in like a proper butler should. He doesn't even think before he reacts to Ciel aiming a gun at the Baron, not afraid to point a sword at a child. Joker may not want to do terrible things, but some people matter more than others to him- those who are close to him and those who share such a miserable background. It's like he says in Chapter 32- he knew from the start that doing Baron Kelvin's work was despicable, but sometimes you have to steal from the world when it's already stolen so much from yourself.

Those three things basically make up Joker- someone who is honestly friendly and wants to help those who need it to most, but cares so deeply that he won't be afraid to hurt others in his decisions if that's seemingly the only way things can go. There are a few other things, such as how he's fairly honest with himself regarding what he does even if he isn't honest with others, and how he isn't ashamed to pettily rub salt in a wound for some last revenge. (Also chapter 32, when he reveals to Ciel that the other circus members are venturing to his house to kill everyone there.)
Strengths/Weaknesses: Joker has managed to grow into quite the jack of all trades, something which is born from his duties as the ringmaster of a circus and also the butler of a nobleman. While some are not explicitly stated, they can be guess due to this duel background.

On the circus side of things, being the ringmaster means having a considerable amount of duties. Everyone looked to Joker when it came to managing performances (unless he was out), which shows he has a good feel when it comes to the entertainment and how to keep such a hectic space running smoothly. He also has to have a good eye for spotting talent, although sometimes his job is made easier if individuals are particularly blatant. Being a manager of sorts also means that he has to be able to temper the many contrasting personalities that a circus has, knowing how to stop arguments. The most valuable skill of a ringmaster is how to keep all eyes on you, entertain the crowd, and direct their attention to where it needs to go. This makes him quite good at dealing with people, and he has a naturally loud voice after so long in the business. Presumably, he has leftover skills from when the circus was smaller and people had to dabble in various other areas. He can certainly juggle, that much is certain.

The role of a butler also means being able to manage things around the manor very well, especially considering the fact that Baron Kelvin's estate seemed to be populated by mostly children and no other real staff. While those children did seem to be decent at simple manual labor (pushing the Baron around), more skilled actions seemed beyond them. This implies that Joker had to do a lot of things himself, such as cooking such rich and lavish food. Suiting any decent butler from his period of time, Joker has good knowledge about various wines, food quality, proper tableware, and other such things.

Besides those two things, Joker has also shown himself to be a competent enough fighter or at least very quick on his feet. He managed to be at the Baron's side in an instant when Ciel pointed a gun at his head. Not as fast as Sebastien, of course, but it's been shown in canon that most humans fall short of the demon butler. He seems to prefer blades, and in fact had a hidden knife in his fake arm.

Speaking of the fake arm, he will quickly rid of himself of it almost immediately upon arrival into Johto and thus be restricted to his one real arm. Joker has had much of his life to have to adjust to this disability, and it won't take him very long to get back into the old habits he once had. Still, he'll have trouble with some things due to this.

A more personal weakness is the lengths to which Joker will go to if he feels like he has no other choice. Because of Baron Kelvin's support over him and the others (providing them with just about everything, even their fake limbs), Joker felt like he had no choice but to do truly horrible things like kidnapping children and leading them to their deaths. It's a very ugly side to an otherwise good person.

First Person Sample: And a good afternoon to all of you in Johto!

[For all that he's been here who knows how long- (142 checks of the network, desperately hoping to see another familiar face, hoping they make it over the hills just like him)- Joker still pronounces the word 'Johto' a bit strangely. It's just too foreign on his tongue for him to say it naturally, really.]

[Just like usual, Joker is smiling right into the camera. Performer habits, and all that.]

I was hopin' one of you kind folks could answer a little inquiry of mine. I just happened to notice that some of our Pokemon friends happen to resemble animals from England. Now, I've seen more than a bit of cats while I've been here, but I was wondering if maybe anyone had seen any cats that were a bit..

[And here he takes one hand, palm horizontal and flat and facing down, to raise it low to around... four feet.]

Bigger. Perhaps with a mane, if you understand me!

Third Person Sample: It was the fiftieth time, possibly, that Joker had checked his Pokegear.

Logically, he was quite aware of how little help that would really do. There wasn't a magic number that would make Beast or Doll or Dagger or any of the others appear here in this strange place as well. From what he could tell from talking with so many others, there wasn't any real rhyme or reason to who came here. It just... happened.

Joker knew well enough how cruel life could be with its tricks. His missing arm was testament to that. Hell, his death was evidence. Still... Damn it all, he wished it wasn't just up to random fate. He wished there was some sort of person he could barter with. God knew that he would have done anything, no matter how heinous, to see the rest of his family in this place. It wasn't perfect, because no place was, but it was the best thing he had ever seen for most of his life. Beast would adore it. Against his will, thoughts of their last conversation snuck back into his mind...

The PokeGear was snapped shut, the light vanishing from Joker's face and leaving him in Darkness. Taking a deep breath, he stood up and away from the cave wall he had been sitting against. No. Now was not the time for that sort of thing. Not while he was sitting in this miserable old cave, following on rumors of some sort of rare Pokemon that supposedly lurked in the waters of this place. Forcing his face to smile came to him easier than water. Joker had spent a lot of his years making himself smile even when he didn't care to and, besides, he didn't want to frighten his partner. The Mime Jr. popped out from the Pokeball with a cheery little noise which became considerably less cheery when it noticed Joker's emotions.

Pretending as though he didn't have an empath right besides him, Joker just laughed and scooped up the little Pokemon in his good arm. "Well, it looks like it's going to be a long day, isn't it? But no one can ever say we aren't determined. We'll find it sooner or later." With that said, he continued his way through the caves, still smiling and keeping an eye out for Zubats.

If he just smiled enough, sooner or later fiction would become fact. To anyone wandering through the caves, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
