APPLICATIONS!
Currently: Closed!
Route 29 has closed as of May 30th. For the continuation of the game, please visit [community profile] victory_road!

Applications will be normally checked during the weekend following the first and third Sunday of each month unless otherwise stated, and we will allow one application per person during one application cycle. Remember, the most characters one player can have at a time is currently set at five.

Applications received after 11:59 PM EST on Saturday of the first and third weekend of each month will be checked the following app weekend unless otherwise stated.

We now ask that potential applicants post their application in comments rather than linking. If their application contains explicit references to 'hard' spoilers (character death, unforeseen plot twists, big reveals, he was evil all along etc), players should put the application in their own journal or their character's journal and link it, making sure to mention the presence of spoilers within. For further clarification on our spoilers policy and whether or not your application needs to be linked, please check this page. Thank you for your cooperation!

The comment character limit on dreamwidth is 16,000 characters so apps no longer need to be split into multiple comments; however this is at players' discretion.

Please use the form below and post your application in comments rather than linking if you can. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either of the mods. You can reach us through emails, IMs, or PMs.

A reminder for those waiting to hear back, please don't be worried if we skip yours while going through them. It only means we needed a little more time to research!

Mitsuzane "Micchy" Kureshima | Kamen Rider Gaim | Not Reserved

[personal profile] grapeeater 2014-10-16 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

To say 'Micchy is complicated' is a gigantic understatement, akin to saying 'the sun is hot'. Micchy would claim that he's not so hard to understand, as long as you listen to him, but he's also so far down the scale of sanity slippage that it's difficult to tell just how much about himself he knows.

Micchy is smart. Incredibly smart, because as the younger brother of one of Yggdrasill's top executives, he's expected to succeed. He can't not, because to do so would be to bring shame to his family and most of all, to himself. Determination, too, is one of his learned traits. Considering everything he went through, even if his goals were misguided, he fought to try to keep Mai safe. Granted, his methods were manipulative and could be considered downright abusive, but he was determined about it.

Micchy is a kid twisted by expectations and violence. He hides his involvement with the Beat Riders from his brother because they're the sort of people that are considered 'below his station' - common folk, not the elite like him. He doesn't seem to care much about the elite class, though - he doesn't treat his position of wealth and power as something that makes him better than anyone else. At least at first he seems downright embarrassed by it - when he's with Team Gaim he's just 'Micchy', not 'Mitsuzane'.

He more or less blackmails Sid into keeping quiet about giving him a Sengoku Driver, so he can fight and defend Team Gaim when Kouta sinks into depression. The mess that results after they discover what Helheim is doing to their world, though, sends him at first to his brother's side in an attempt to help Yggdrasill save as many people as they can - but once he realizes that will never work, he focuses on just saving Mai. It's implied that he has a crush on her, despite her being older. His obsession starts to take over, and he hides things from her and the other Beat Riders. He wants to defend 'their' happiness, 'Mai's' happiness, but in fact the only person whose happiness he really cares about is his own.

He tried so hard. He had good intentions at the start - he wanted to help - but the further he traveled from the path of actual altruism the worse he got. His mental state during the series basically starts to break down, to the point where once he realizes that he failed he pretty much collapsed into a spiral of depression and despair.

He is also an incredible actor - he hides his activities from his brother, and he hides his actual nature from many people over the course of the series. Most people don't suspect what he's doing until he reveals it - at least, unless they're as good at acting as he is. He picks up on social cues and adjusts quickly, staying confident when he has to be and playing the peacemaker when that's called for.

Micchy isn't entirely bad, though. He does value his friends at the beginning, and while his original intentions got thrown to the side somewhat, he at least had good ones to start - which is more than can be said for some other characters. His determination is also incredibly admirable, considering that he managed to make his way through a fight that should have killed him, given the power he was using. His main problems stem from simply being a teenager - a kid, really - who hasn't had the chance to learn rejection from experience, and so in an extreme situation that also gets taken to extremes.

As Oren says in one of the last episodes, "he is the one who will have to live with what he's done", and mentions that that's punishment enough. Even before he really snaps out of it, he has hallucinations of his brother over guilt from what he's done. Living his life with the guilt of what he did because of his own childish actions is really the worst punishment anyone could give him. So much death and destruction because of what he did - his actions were deplorable and he knows it. His actions were foolish, childish, rash, and more akin to a tantrum than anything else. He does have a moral core, once he's snapped out of it - but it takes him a long time to snap out of it, enough time for him to cause major damage to both himself and to others.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

+ Intelligence: Bookwise, Mitsuzane is incredibly smart. He goes to one of the top schools in the area, and as the son and brother of Yggdrasill executives he's expected to maintain his grades.
+ Dance/Athleticism: While not one of the people usually in the front of the group, Micchy is pretty athletic. It's enough to keep up in the dance group, at least, despite being several years younger than a lot of them.
+ Acting: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on… probably Micchy, given this series. Micchy is very good about switching his persona not like that depending on what person he's talking to. He's good at convincing people that he's on their side, even if secretly he's plotting to stab them in the back.
+ Planning: Along with the above, Micchy is pretty good at setting up plans based on what people have done in the past. He analyzes behavior and predicts patterns so that he can decide which 'act' would work best on them.
+ Endurance: Not just physical endurance, but mental endurance. Yes, when he breaks down it's in fairly spectacular fashion, but he keeps going even when he seems like he shouldn't. He may not keep his cool through all of it, but he'll stand up and fight, even if he's in pain or is in danger of dying. He has the mental fortitude to keep himself together just long enough to do what he (thinks he) has to do.

- Planning Under Pressure: Micchy's plans don't always work, of course, and when they start to fall apart so does he. He doesn't deal well with having to change his plans on the fly, and he's not very good at formulating new ones in the middle of something else.
- Being Alone: Micchy doesn't like being alone at all. He wants - no, needs - someone to accept him, to see how great he is, to praise him. He was raised to succeed, but what use is success if no one notices?
- Rejection: Saying that Micchy doesn't take rejection well is putting it… lightly. When Mai rejects him, he simply tries to just kidnap Mai. When Kouta rejects his plans, he decides Kouta has to die. Rejection sends him into a mindset of 'me vs. them', and it never ends well for either side.
- Emotionally Vulnerable: Micchy is just plain dumb when it comes to emotions and how they work for himself. He understands how they motivate other people, but he's easily emotionally manipulated himself because he sees himself as 'above' it.
- Hallucinations: He does his best to not snap where people can see him, and they're rarer now that he's accepted his own guilt for the most part, but he has hallucinations of his brother berating him for his actions, his morality, and his choices.

First Person Sample:

[The video opens to… a paw. A small reddish paw, and the owner is picked up by the scruff of the neck. A voice drifts down to the 'Gear, calm and cold.]

I told you to stop playing with my things. I'm not going to warn you again.

[Is it… dammit, it's recording. Micchy sets the Vulpix down and picks up the Pokegear. He looks slightly disheveled and his hair is matted down to one side as if he just got up. Or maybe it's always that way - it's hard to tell from the way he squares his shoulders and does his best to project an air of confidence.]

Sorry about that. Hopefully she didn't send any weird messages to anyone.

[He smiles a little, though it's pretty obviously strained.]

Ah, aside from the gym battles, what else is there to do for trainers here? I'm not terribly interested in pitting creatures against each other just for a piece of shiny jewelry. Even if it does let me fly around… none of my Pokemon are flying types and most of the ones around here don't seem very… strong.

[He does his best not to flinch as he hears something, though his gaze flicks offscreen before returning to the camera.]

And I'm afraid I don't have anything suitable for trading right now either. It's been… a little rough getting started. I've never had a pet before, and these creatures are more intelligent than the normal sort of pet. I -

[He cuts himself off as he looks offscreen again, this time for a few seconds.]

Go away.

[He clears his throat and looks back down at the 'Gear, obviously distressed.]

… Maybe I'll - continue this conversation another time. Feel free to leave suggestions until I come back, though.

[Shakily, he turns the video off. He's going to have to find somewhere to seclude himself until the hallucination leaves him alone this time. Or at least find something to distract himself with. He's not real. He's not here. And he can't let other people know - they'll think he's crazy.]

Third Person Sample:

Train, eat, sleep. It wasn't really that different of a routine for him, though it was different from the one he'd had in recent months. Training was the easy part - either sitting and waiting to be instructed in another useless task from someone he didn't care about or finding someone in the base to battle against. It wasn't exactly difficult, and the strategy involved in both really wasn't hard. Eating was a little more difficult - he'd gotten used to wearing one Driver or another for so long that he'd simply forgotten to have regular meals.

Sleep… that was the hardest one. Between the occasional hallucination of Takatora berating him for everything - 'how could you join an organization like this? They must have seen what kind of person you are' - and nightmares filled with blood, Inves, Overlords, and Mai sleep was really just a period where he fell unconscious after hours of tossing and turning. He'd kept his mouth shut while in the shared dorms, but sometimes they happened during the day when he was alone.

He knew. He knew what he did was wrong, and even with everything he'd tried he'd just caused more pain and suffering for the person he cared about. It didn't really matter anymore, not here. Not anywhere. He couldn't save her. He couldn't save anyone. Maybe that was why he'd ended up here - a personal purgatory of being on the bottom rung. He'd work through it. Just keep a cool demeanor to the Team and a smile to everyone else, and no one would know the difference. No one would care, really. No one knew his family name, no one knew about Riders or Inves or Yggdrasill.

Maybe it was better that way. He was just like everyone else. Wasn't that what he'd wanted, joining the Beat Riders and hiding his family name? It was just a different sort of normalcy here. Even so… when his Vulpix looked up at him with happiness in her eyes, he couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt.
