SSSSPOOOOILERS ARE HERE
After eliminating all of the clowns, the scene switches to the inside of the moon's nose (yes really) where the ragtag team of Sid, Clay, Akane, the Noah of Wrath and Gopher (not that they wanted the latter two) as they find the center where the Kishin is hiding. Whoops, Asura pops out and it begins a madness frenzy all across the moon, which Maka deflects with her and Soul's ~music~. Noah tries to attack Asura, ultimately to no avail as Crona comes out through a wall and eats the both of them.
Yes. They eat Asura and Noah (though they do vomit up Noah later.)
This is about where the shit hits the fan even more and the trio of Maka, Black*Star and Kid make the decision that they should stay on the moon while everyone else gets teleported back down to Earth by Free. Kid is unfortunately caught in Free's poor aim/lack of direction and is taken away as well, but regardless of this Maka and Black*Star run up to meet Crona. (Kid's on his way back to the moon on his flying skateboard.)
Maka is, understandably, irritated that Crona did a thing like eating the Kishin and starts going at them with gusto, with Black*Star assisting. Unfortunately for them, Crona displays the ability to disrupt the wavelength between weapons and meisters and takes away Soul and Tsubaki from the two; Black*Star is able to go on with hand to hand, but Maka is left without options until Spirit makes a reappearance (he had actually been climbing up the cliff face of the moon the whole time) and offers to be her weapon temporarily since apparently children and their parents naturally resonate.
As this is going on, Lord Death and Excalibur are discussing Kid's inevitable development into a full-fledged death god, providing exposition and foreshadowing simultaneously. LD speaks of "not being afraid of death since he already gave away all his fear."
The context for this line becomes startingly clear as Maka's resonance with her father ultimately can't do much in the fight with Crona (but she and Black*Star are able to reclaim their Weapons so it's okay) and Asura decides to make his reappearance. Crona is swallowed back up in a cocoon of Asura's familiar scarves . Luckily Kid has finally arrived and the "pose as a team because shit just got real" actual fight against the Kishin can begin.
This doesn't go so well at first, but Maka remains courageous and refusing to give up while Black*Star and Kid become more and more frightened and disheartened (possibly due to the effects of Asura's insanity wavelength). Asura reveals, much to Kid's hysterical denial, that he is also a child of Lord Death, who wanted to give away all of his fear and put it into one entity, making him Kid's older biological brother. He goes on to say that if Kid connects all of his Sanzu lines, he will become a demon god just like him, shaking him to his core and filling him with doubt.
Maka is having none of this, however, and continues to beat against Asura, telling Kid that it doesn't matter if they're both gods or if they're even related, Kid is nothing like the Kishin and the Kishin is not a death god even if he deals with death. He's still Kid and he's their friend, Black*Star concurs with this saying that even he trusts him. Confidence regained, Kid thanks Maka for her bravery and finally moves to connect his third Sanzu line to "see what happens when [he] becomes a full-fledged death god!"
And that's where canon is at this point.
Okay no more spoilers
still can't believe I did that tho
She does try hard with a lot of aspects in her life due to her want to be the best she can be and create a Death Scythe more powerful than the one her mother created. She studies to get the best grades she can (and even finds the learning and testing parts fun) and she fights hard simultaneously with and without fear of death (though she's pretty much unkillable anyway).
Maka is not completely serious all the time, she's actually quite friendly to most people that don't appear to be out to cause trouble (much to the annoyance of her more cynical partner, Soul) and has a positive, confident attitude most of the time. She's even friendly with a good chunk of her classmates, even the one that was her obligatory academics rival at first. As a friend, Maka is as supportive as she can be given her limited view of some things and tendency to lose it with annoying ones like Black*Star and her habit of charging on ahead without really thinking (or even disobeying a direct order from a teacher, gasp!). She wants to support them, especially her partner Soul. With any problem, Maka doesn't just put on a brave face, she tackles them head on with outright courage. She's said so herself, even if people are afraid, courage can be found because they have fear and that courage can grow enough to give someone strength over fear. Though she doesn't seem to realize it, this courage of hers is infectious to others and spurs them on in battle.
However, there are less than desirable aspects to Maka as well. Actually, some things about her personality can get downright ugly when her emotions run high (and, subsequently, greatly upsets and throws her off) or when…her father is involved. (Earlier in the series she often manipulated him to use his status to check out books
from the forbidden sectionbeyond her rank in stars.)Though Maka is quite confident in her abilities and works hard to keep herself strong so she can protect her friends, she tends to become obsessive with perfecting things, making sure her friends safe and getting the job done even through risking her own life. (A nicer term for this would be passionate, because dear god is she passionate about her duties and goals in life, simple as they may be and as young and--admittedly--inexperienced she may be). She often has to be reminded that, yes, she can rely on her own friends and comes to realize that she can rely on them after all and has no reason to be afraid of being killed.
Maka's most known for her fiery temper, especially since she has a penchant for violently hitting anybody (yes anybody) over the head with a book she's always carrying, or perhaps punching them in the face if she lacks a book. Hotheaded protagonist + confidence and courage = one dangerous little girl.
I mentioned insecurities, right? Maka's pedantic to a fault and takes criticism hard (she seems to mostly get them over her looks which just gets a scoff, but if you suggest she's not as academic as she could be oh will there be blood) she beats herself up for being "foolish" and works harder in response to a problem, which ultimately leads to her finding new strength. Her strength is most often intrinsically tied to the bond she has with her friends (most prominently her Weapon partner Soul) and the trials they go through together.
As a final note, she's a pretty big workaholic, like before when I mentioned that she loves taking tests and studying for them, she infamously studied for three months prior to a super important exam, all based on the desire to achieve and be on the same level as her mother (who was at the top of her class). Also partly based on a rumor that whoever passes that exam will be the one to make a Death Scythe.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS!
♦ Healthy and physically active, has good stamina and speed on her own even if she doesn't have ridiculous abilities like Black*Star and Kid, it's been said that she's the strongest female Meister in their class both in weaponry and physical hand to hand combat.
♦ Dextrous as evident by her ability to swing Soul around.
♦ COURAGE! Yes, her courage is strong enough to be considered an ability in and of itself. She cannot fall to insanity and literally the only thing that can stop her is being killed (but she's hard to kill anyway).
♦ She's pretty smart and strategic when she's not literally beating her head against something to kill it
♦ She's lived on her own for a good bit of her life, so she's pretty good with taking care of herself and the basic necessities--cooking, keeping up a household, working jobs and budgeting money, all that stuff.
♦ Her mama taught her well, Maka can be very polite about requesting help or doing favors for others.
♦ Surprisingly good at networking and gaining allies (she considers them friends) for someone that's a shut-in bookworm.
WEAKNESSES!
♦…She's a human being, even if she's physically active it's not like she's strong enough to say fight against a grown man.
♦ Books are definitely her weakness. She can get lost in a good book or even an entire library for days on end unless someone drags her out.
♦ Tell her there will be a test or that she failed, she'll go crazy.
♦ That bad temper I mentioned is really, really bad. Like high "judging things too fast to even realize what's actually going on" bad in some instances.
♦ I'm serious. She's not afraid of anything. This has its perks of course, but also it's drawbacks because, you know, not being afraid of anything gets you killed.
♦ Uhhh, she's a giant prude? Yes, our hotblooded protagonist is a prude.
♦ She's a neatfreak and enforces rules around her house harshly. Use the coasters, dammit.

First Person Sample:
[The girl that comes on the screen appears to be wearing an Emolga for a hat.
Actually, she's not, she just discovered her new companion and vice versa for the little Pokemon. It immediately became fascinated with her pigtails and crawled on her head to tug at them. Maka herself seems to be checking the settings of her device.]
Man, this is really advanced…
[…She is aware that it's on, isn't it? Apparently not, as she continues poking at buttons, one of which reads off the Dex entry for the Pokemon on her head. Eventually she notices the indicating light and starts—Emolga seems unbothered by this as it goes on with playing with her pigtails, inadvertently charging them with static electricity.]
Uhh…I'm supposed to use this for communicate with other trainers, right? …Who are you even talking to, Maka, this animal can't talk. Hello? Is—
[Ah. Her hair is sticking to the screen. Please hold while she pulls a certain flying squirrel creature off of her head and subsequently the static cloud. She scowls at it as it wiggles around in her grip on the scruff of its neck gleefully.]
You know, it's a good thing you're so cute or else…[…Maka shakes her head.] I can't think of an or else [she sets down Emolga out of view and points the camera at it.] Now you stay down there, okay? I need to see if I can find my friends. [Emolga chirps cheerily in response and Maka turns the camera back on herself.]
Anyway…is there anybody from the Death Weapon Meister Academy out there? My Soul Perception isn't working, so I can't actually get a read on who's here or not. [At that, she sort of cringes and turns the camera back on Emolga, who has now apparently found a berry to munch on. She'll just leave people with that pleasant image while she mutters to herself about the possibility of being alone here and what should be done next.]
Third Person Sample: Maka's first use of the PokeGear could have gone better, if only devices like that were more prominent in her world and…
Actually, she can't really focus on anything except the predicament she's in at the moment and the predicament she left back at home. Where was everybody? She's unable to find a trace of their souls (not that her Soul Perception works) and it conflicts with her automatic reaction of absorbing the new information given to her.
"A Pokemon journey…" Maka looks down at the little creature—Emolga, that's its name—still merrily munching on the berries it manages to find. This? I'm supposed to make this cute little thing fight? Not that cute things couldn't be vicious, Noah's dogs were certainly an example of that, but it feels almost wrong to order such a cute thing to battle. It was unable to speak, either, though when it notices Maka looking at it, it chirps and insistently offers her what it's eating.
The girl smiles softly in return and shakes her head. "That's okay, I have food in my bag…we're supposed to start a journey together, huh? How do you feel about that?"
The Pokemon blinks in confusion at why she's asking such a question, then holds up the half-eaten berry with a determined look on its face. It looks like it's all ready to go, the only one holding up the journey is Maka herself…
"I guess you're right, we can't just sit here and wait for night to fall," she replies, standing and brushing herself off. "Emolga? It doesn't seem right to not have a name for you…how about Bolt?"
It was cheesy, certainly, sounds more like a comic book hero than a name for a pet, but the newly-named Bolt seems to approve of it. Bolt alights onto Maka's shoulder and begins chattering all sorts of squeaks and chirps, broadening Maka's smile. "Okay, I guess you like that!"
Or it just likes attention in general. Maka reaches over to scratch Bolt behind a large bat-like ear and sucks in a breath. "Okay!" she huffs picking up her bag and swinging it over her other shoulder. "Let's get started with some training then, Bolt!"
